Dawn Cats!

A feline species I made up, they're the Ancients (ancient tribe) from Jayfeather's time travels!

Big, powerful cats, living around the Lake Territories in three separete grups (tribes). It wasn't clearly stated in the books if the grup Jay meet and traveld with to the Mountains was only one Tribe or all of them (or at least I don't remember that 😅), but I hedcanon that the Dawn Cats were already at the dusk of their society during po3. After a series of epidemies and internal conflicts, their numbers declined drasticly, and their Healers desided to mearge into one grup. The Twolegs showing up at the Lake was only a final nail in the coffin, and made the already existing thoughts about leaving their home more urgent. After that, you know the drill, Jay's Wing/Feather shows up, the Tribe votes go or stay and they travel to the Mountains. Forming the grup known as the Ancient Tribe and later giving rise to Tribe of Rushing Water, ThunderClan, ShadowClan, WindClan, RiverClan and SkyClan.

Geneticly they're sitting somwhere at the base of the F. catus (and cousins) family tree (the wildcats/felis silvestris) Closer to the ancient wildcats then our domestic goofballs, but still able to hybridize and have fertile offspring. They're the resoult of an alternative timline in which the ancient humans who crossed the Bering Strait and later went to become the Native Americans, brought their own primitive wildcats companions with them (assuming they had any). Those kitties later diverged into many other subspecies, but nearly all of them faced extinction, leaving only a couple still standing. The original Dawn Cats went extinct through hybridization with domestic cats, forming the Clans. The closest (geneticly speaking), and the last still alive in the u.s subspieces of the Dawn Cats are the Tribe of Rushing Water (still clasified as critically endangered though). The other desendants of the 'first kitties' are the Sisters (I'll talk about it in another post) also clasified as CR, and the Wildcats, that are still just your typical Felis silvestris grampia, but now living in North America. Becouse Erins writed Ivypool's Heart already after I made the USwarrior catsAU. (well, I have to work with what they gave me 🤣).

It's more like a guideline I'll loosely base my new batch of designs off on, then anything super serious, I don't like restricting myself too much when drawing XD.

I'm planning on dropping a bigger post where I'll cover Dawn Cats history and culture in greater detail, so stay tuned!

disclaimer: I know that people who crossed the Bering Strait were hunter-gatherers and didn't really needed cats, but this addition would just be cute and help me ground my rewrite a lot :D

Moon and her really helpful, eldritch Friendstalker 🤣

I really liked their dynamic in Moon Rising. I actually think that this might be one of my favourite dynamics/tropes in fiction 🤣. A character haunted/ manipulated by a powerful spirit, that wants to be set free/reclaim their power, but finds an uneasy alliance with them, that ultimately leads to the evil ghost forming some sort of a friendship/attactment with our character, whom he first considerd to be just a ,tool' on their way to *insert whatever's the spirits goal*.

I'm pretty sad there's not gonna be any more chapters from Moon's pov, I kinda feel unsatisfied with this book, I'd like to read more about her and Darkstalker (as a mind ghost) and this Jade Mountain Academy highshool musical romance drama thing 🤣🤣🤣

19. Tall Shadow (pl: Cień Wysoki)

One night I had a dream there was this beautyful Tall Shadow amv on Yt, and it had Dappled Pelt there, and Shaded Moss as well..., it was so amazing! so when I woke up, I searched the whole internet, but I didn't find anything... 😭

I love her, and I think, in the future, I'll might write a whole post about my headcanons and my takes on her 🤭

I have just bearly bitten into avos (I'm on chapter 8 of Thunder and Shadow), but I'm enjoying it so far 😁!

I love NeedlePaw, she's so sassy and energetic, and yet she also have some real depth to her character (and unfortunetly this type of characters often lack it, on text at least{ everything can be fixed with the power of remembering previous books & character analysis 🤪. ,I say while pointing at Rosetail or; Sunny from wof,). Also her friendship with AlderPaw is so cute <3 (though he can be really annoying sometimes, and pushed into the narrative of a sad good boy, even though some of his actions are rather selfish and acted out of jelousy of his sister Sparkpelt, than purely sympathetic), (but {thx StarClan} his biggest annoying fase was only, at least for now, in the Apprentice Quest. Now in Thunder and Shadow he's much more enjoable!<3)

I also think NeedlePaw being this big sis/bff for Violetkit is an incredibly good plot point! (even though NeedlePaw is a really, really bad role model XD). AlderPaw and Twigkit's interactions are also really sweet!

I just really don't understand why Jayfeather was made so, so pointlessly mean in this arc 😓, like I know he always was this way, but in po3 and oots it at least was more balanced, now it just seems forced and caricatured. I get him being annoyed and fed up with Sparkpelt and AlderPaw (after all, they are the new "true" children of his parents, and they live the life he once had, but was taken from him), but why is he so mean to everybody else? Why is he so horrible to Twigkit? ( like he is one of my Most Favourite characters, but now it feels like he's kinda boiled down to a stereotypical forced annoying plot device).

I'm probably gonna write a longer and more comprehensive analysis, after I'll finish Thunder and Shadow, because there's just a ton of stuff I wanna talk about! to much to write in one sitting.
