Feelings on HTTYD 2
So I just finished watching httyd 2 with a friend and I thought it was great! Not as good as the first one but I enjoyed myself. I had some issues with the movie so let me summarize what I liked and did not like about it.
What I Liked
Hicctooth - Toothless and Hiccup continue to be amazing together. Such a great friendship bond and they were so cute! The moments where Toothless was fed up with Hiccup were gold.
Stoick - This man was such a badass in this movie! Great fight scenes and his rescue of Valka and sacrifice for Hiccup were so well done. His bromance with Gobber was A+ and I love how he has developed as a father. He seemed even more protective of Hiccup in this movie compared to the first movie. It was actually kind of sweet. Also, his romantic dance with Valka was such a joy to see. Seeing Hiccup happy to see his parents together made me so happy too.
The villain - Drago was pretty entertaining as a villain. I wouldn't call him the best but I thought his design was cool. I think he was a decent villain to challenge Hiccup's naivity.
Toothless and Stormfly - These two had such fun scenes together. I smiled whenever they interacted. So cute! I just really liked Stormfly in this movie, such a good girl. Her bond with Eret was cute.
Toothless and Cloudjumper - These two were so funny. Cloudjumper had annoyed big brother vibes going on lol.
Music - Once again, the music captivated me in this movie. I love the HTTYD movie end credits songs! It makes me feel nostalgic.
Character designs - Liked most of the character designs. Hiccup looked good of course and Snotlout surprisingly looked great too. I liked the greying beard on Stoick.
Eret - I felt so bad for poor Eret. I think he was an interesting addition to the cast.
Friendship of the teens - I liked the interactions among the 6 teens/young adults. I wish the whole love triangle thing was less cringe though.
What I Did Not Like or Felt Neutral About
Hiccstrid - I have seen from Hiccstrid shippers on Tumblr that the second movie is the basis for their love of the ship. And at the end of the movie, I was struggling to understand why? I liked the initial Hiccstrid cliff scene for the most part but the ship was basically irrelevant for the rest of the movie. If you take out Hiccstrid, nothing changes really. There was hardly anything interesting about this ship. Felt so generic. And honestly, this ship feels very one-sided. It's all about Hiccup but what about Astrid? What does she get from this relationship besides the clout of being a future chieftess? And Hiccup's tendency to rush off into danger?
Astrid - Not sure if I liked Astrid's design in this movie. But more importantly, I was disappointed by Astrid's character. My friend agreed with me that Astrid was just there. Her only purpose in this movie seemed to be to give Hiccup his mandatory pep talk and to anger Drago to prematurely attack. When Astrid kept yapping about Hiccup's greatness, I swear I was dying on the inside. Astrid was important in the first movie but httyd 2 solidified her status as a pretty love interest character. Her dragon Stormfly seemed to have more going on in this movie. Astrid was just meh. All she is now is just Hiccup's girlfriend.
Valka - Maybe if I watched the movie without knowing about Valka, maybe I would be more neutral about her. But I don't like her. She's a deadbeat mom. Her reasons for abandoning Hiccup were so flimsy. Stoick, for all his flaws, was learning to be a better dad and I am so sad that Stoick will not get to see Hiccup grow as a man. Valka does not deserve the privilege that's for sure. I must also say that she did a crap job at advocating for peace. Sure, argue for peace while your village is under attack! Makes SO much sense. What made her believe dragons were good anyway?? I wish Valka was the movie villain. Or at least an antagonist.
Toothless - For the most part, I enjoyed Toothless' interactions with Hiccup. But he seemed way too playful sometimes? I don't think he should have been so relaxed with Valka since she attacked them. I miss the Toothless who was aggressive with strangers. Also, I find it strange that Toothless did not know how to expand his spines. He's a wild animal and wild animals should have instincts about these things. Finally, as cool as that super saiyan rage mode was at the end, I still want to know where this power came from.
Ruffnut - I hate how Ruffnut looks. She was pretty in the first movie and she also looks pretty in the ROB show. I don't know why her older design has to look like this. She looked especially repulsive when she was hitting on Eret. I kept asking myself why the scriptwriters did this? Why make her look so gross??
Hiccup's inner conflict - I thought the introduction of Hiccup's mom felt way too forced. The whole spiel about not knowing who he is because he does not know his mom made me so confused. In the first movie, Hiccup hardly cared about Valka. There was not even a throwaway line like 'No one in Berk gets me...but maybe mom would if she were here'. Why the sudden interest??? I also think Hiccup's struggle with his free spirit desire was poorly handled. Plus, I don't understand why Hiccup got the idea that his job was to be a peacekeeper?? Peacekeeper for who?? We don't even meet other tribes! I am sure this attitude is addressed in the shows but it makes little sense to me. How do you go from making peace with dragons to being a peacekeeper of the archipelago? And what leadership did Hiccup showcase to Valka for him to deserve the 'heart of a chief' line??
These are my main takeaways! Despite the shortcomings, I did like the movie. Sigh, now it's time for Hidden World.

HTTYD fic rec: Crossover verse~
Everything we know about you is wrong series by penlessismyname
Synopsis: Hiccup goes into the Hunger Games. There, he meets a very special mutt.
Review: A beautiful blend of Hunger Games verse with how to train your dragon characters that we love. Although the world-building is intriguing and marvellous on its own, the characters are the real stars in the show here. Every single one of them are complex and provide thoughtful insights about the relationships and the world they live in. The lonely son of a popular Victor Stoick the Vast in District 4- Hiccup volunteered for his cousin in a fit of courage and was expected to die in the first 10 seconds of the game. Somehow, friendship sneaks into the deadly game, and Hiccup may actually survive after all.
Shippers of Hiccup and Astrid might be disappointed, but Hiccup's relationship with Toothless in the hostile Capitol more than make up for it. The author's pacing and writing is seriously so good that I stayed up till 3am to read it. Currently, there are two complete works in the series, with Hiccup's and Astrid's perspectives in the games, with a much awaited Stoick's perspective coming up.
Life built on snow and ashes series by afterandalasia
Synopsis: It starts with a boy in a village, a wildling in a cavern, and a dragon in a cove.
Review: The series puts a magical (and darker) spin in Berk and Arendelle, mixing people with magic (called wildlings) and dragons in the world of HTYYD. It is a long read that detailed Elsa and Hiccup's venture to unite dragons, wildlings and vikings, and uncover the dark society behind Elsa' exile. The plot of the story is mysterious and hooks you in with the mystery behind Elsa's background.
half an eternity by Marnie27
Synopsis:
Dragons,” North said, “Are evil creatures. Terrible monsters, that can kill and destroy entire towns with seas of fire! I have seen them. Vith my very own eyes!”
So had Jack, and maybe they were just as bad as he had said, but the last one — Toothless, he really wasn’t as bad as North was saying. “What if you’re wrong? What if dragons are good?”
“I am not vong. It doesn’t even matter if they’re good. Vhat matters is that Pitch controls them, and creates fear. They do his bidding. There is no such thing as a good dragon as long as Pitch is on this earth, and there never vill be.”
(ROTG X HTTYD) Hiccup as Pitch AU
Review: This work hurts my heart in all the good ways. Although it is marked incomplete, the first arc is already resolved and could be read as a whole story. The story diverted from the first movie in the most heart-wrenching way- Hiccup dying from the Red Death, leaving his friends, family and dragon behind. The plot thickens as Hiccup tries to reunite with them, and come to terms with the being he has become. Existential yet funny, this fic is underrated and deserves to be more well-known.
If you guys have or want any more fic recs about hiccup and toothless, feel free to message me.

A list of underrated and underused httyd duos:
Platonic Astrid & Eret - i feel like these two would be pretty good friends and Eret would probably have a special bond with Stormfly do that would bring them closer together. Also I may or may not enjoy the hiccup jealous of eret fics 🤭 I am by no means a THW hater but the fact we didn't get any of this duo was disappointing.
Platonic Astrid & Snotlout - Snotlout's Angels is one of my fave filler episodes of RTTE because it's cool to see them look at Snotlout's attitude to women, Astrid especially, and it was just overall hilarious. But I so wish we got more bonding between them. There is loads of Astrid and Snotlout moments in the show but it's mostly banter or comedy. I would've loved to see a bit with them turning to each other for comfort or something (the lack of this is probably why I'm writing a fanfic for it 🙃)
Hiccup & Tuffnut - the duo I didn't know I wanted until THW. There are loads of twins+Hiccup moments but I don't think there's many of just them (or maybe I've forgotten 🤷‍♀️). Just havin Tuffnut bring Hiccup's therapist and advisor whilst Hiccup rolls his eyes for the 100849th time. That's all, thank you.
Astrid & Valka - another one I hoped to have seen in THW. To be fair, there was a scene between them cut from the movie so at least they were planning on it. But I feel like they could've kept it in instead of the prolonged "Ruffnut thinks she's hot" bit. The haddock wives bonding over the haddock men. I know it fails the Bechdel test but eh. Although, I suppose they did get a scene together in the comics. Would've liked a nice personal convo between them tho.
Astrid & Ruffnut - I'm 99% sure there are no scenes of them together alone. They're the only two girls in the gang, I would've loved to seen some girl talk between them or just them slowly becoming better friends because Astrid seems closer with (obviously Hiccup) and maybe Fishlegs and Snotlout, even Tuffnut in an episode. But apart from Ruff having a go at her, there's no AstridxRuff duo. Unpopular opinion: I would've much preferred Astrid and Ruffnut together than Astrid and Heather.
Hiccup & Valka - this, again, is mostly directed towards THW. Hiccup and Valka have plenty of scenes and moments together but I wanted something in the aftermath of HTTYD 2. A lil angst even, if they could fit it in. Hiccup's mom came back after 20 years of absence, surely it's not as easy as just pretending it never happened and acting all normal. I feel like maybe this would've been better as a bit in the comics rather than the movie. Even just them grieving Stoick together. They didn't talk much in the third and I think that was a missed opportunity.
Astrid & Stoick - theres definitely moments for these characters, it's not non-existent. But I'm greedy, I would've wanted more. There's loads of fanart of Stoick being the biggest hiccstrid shipper, how cool would it have been to see that come to life a bit more.
This isn't a duo per say but just overall Dragon Swapping in general is something that would've been really cool to see. Like, Snotlout riding Stormfly? Astrid on Hookfang? Tuffnut on Toothless? These would've made for some pretty funny moments.

Hiccup Haddock & Mirabel Madrigal Similarities
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Usually, I am not a fan of cross-ships, but I have recently been reading an ongoing fanfic titled, “The Dragon and the Butterfly” by HotPatooty on archivesofourown. It’s an AU cross-ship between Hiccup Haddock of Dreamworks and Mirabel Madrigal of Encanto. After reading the story I actually like the idea of them together; I’ll always be a Hiccstrid shipper but this is a solid pair. In fact, the author mentioned they noticed a lot of similarities between the two. As such, I decided to make a post comparing the two.
1. Both are the lead protagonist of their own franchises - Hiccup for HTTYD franchise; Mirabel for Encanto franchise, I know they only have 1 movie but it’s highly likely they’re getting more because Chapek has described Encanto as Disney’s newest franchise.
2. Both are disabled - Hiccup lost his left leg at the end of the first movie (not seen in the above image); Mirabel has to wear glasses and has been wearing them since she was a small child.
3. Both are Brainy Brunettes (a trope of someone with brown/black hair is intelligent) - Hiccup has auburn hair (reddish brown); Mirabel has black hair.
4. Both are creative - Hiccup with his inventions; Mirabel with her embroidery.
5. Short for their age - Hiccup even gets his name from being the runt of his generation but he grows taller over the franchise; Mirabel’s official height has been stated to be 5′2″.
6. Looked down upon by their family and village for being different - Hiccup for being scrawny for a Viking and not having the typical Viking nature; Mirabel for being the only one of her family to not have a gift among her magical family.
7. Connection with the color green - Hiccup has green eyes, his outfits have some green in it, and his best friend (Toothless) has green eyes; Mirabel’s glasses are bright green, she’s in a green shard vision from her uncle, and she many similarities with said uncle who is connected to green.
8. Have a tense and complicated relationship with an adult figure they live with, who they desperately want to make proud, and said figure is seen as the leader of their village. Also, said figure is taller than them - Hiccup and his father, Stoick Haddock aka Stoick the Vast; Mirabel with her maternal grandmother, Alma Madrigal.
9. Both are dorky, helpful, mature, clumsy, sarcastic, intelligent, empathetic, funny, compassionate, forgiving, brave, deep sense of community, and encourage change within their respective communities.
10. Both bring about change in their village/family - Hiccup stops the Viking dragon war; Mirabel stops the harmful perfectionistic mindset in her family.
11. They go through a character arc that has them both growing a spine to stand up to their wrong-minded adult figures and become more self-confident.
12. They’re warnings are initially dismissed - Hiccup about the Dragon Hive being too dangerous; Mirabel about the cracks in Casita.
13. Both have a close bond with a non-human companion and said companion is very protective of them - Hiccup with Toothless, a dragon from a rare and powerful breed; Mirabel with Casita. a sapient house.
14. They have a changing relationship with the “perfect” person of their community - Hiccup with Astrid (the ideal Viking), as he crushes on her and she is as cold and dismissive to him as she is with the other teens but they both grow to have a close friendship and later romance; Mirabel with her oldest sister, Isabela Madrigal, seen as a “perfect” example of the Madrigals and is Alma’s obvious favorite grandchild, Isabela starts off rather aloof and haughty to Mirabel while Mirabel does look up to Isabela she is annoyed with how presumably perfect everything goes for Isabela and how her oldest sister is mean to her but they end the movie having a closer sisterly bond.
15. Both meet a long-lost relative who they haven’t since they were small but instantly connect with and share a physical resemblance with - Hiccup with his mother Valka Haddock, who he hasn’t seen since he was an infant but meet in the second movie, where he is 21; Mirabel with her maternal uncle Bruno Madrigal who she hasn’t seen since she was 5 but they meet during the movie.
16. Both go through their own slapstick humor in their respective franchises.
17. Both are leader like - Hiccup is more explicit because he’s the next Chief of Berk and becomes more of a better leader throughout the franchise; it’s implicit with Mirabel but she becomes the key to restoring Casita and the family bonds, with a popular theory being she’ll take on Alma’s role in the future, and she’s shown to be The Heart of the Madrigals.
18. Both start the movie having low self-worth and wanting to fit into their community somehow.
19. They have mythical/animal motif - Hiccup has a mythical motif with dragons; Mirabel has an animal motif with butterflied, specifically with yellow ones.
20. Both have shoulder-length hair.
21. Their respective franchises are connected to books - Hiccup’s is loosely adapted from a popular children’s series; Mirabel’s is inspired by the works involving magical realism and Colombian novelist Gabriel García Márquez.

How To Train Your Dragon Saga
In the beginning, I was never really interested in watching the movie and never even bothered to watch the trailer, since we thought it was one of those cliche failure movies (and Dreamworks hasn't really had a very good track record of good animated movies at the time), but after being bombarded with tons of Toothcup fanfics and fanarts and after very high recommendations by my friend Jello13 from dA, I finally got down to watching the movie. Boy, was I glad I took my friend's recommendation to watch this movie, and the subsequent sequels after that, because after 3, 4 friggin' times, I still fucking LOVE this movie!!!
Here's my findings of the saga:
Tumblr media
Apparently this movie was based on a children's novel written by Cressida Cowell which focuses on the 2nd book in a 10-volume book franchise. There are certain deviations between the real Hiccup and Toothless and the storyline as a whole, but after reading the summary of the original story, I think I like the movie version better. In fact even the writer said so in her blog that she likes the deviation as the movie captured the core essence of her story and it was amazing to see her story to be interpreted this way.
The storyline and the pacing is very good, and the sarcastic humour and slight optimism of Hiccup despite people thinking he's anything BUT a Viking is very intriguing. I love his catchphrases like "I'm way too muscular for their tastes. They wouldn't know what to do with all...this" and "Thank you for summing that up" and his famous line "You just gestured to ALL of me!" is just some of the LOL-worthy lines the talented Jay Baruchel who voices Hiccup does.
I was totally shocked to find out that Gerard Butler plays the role of Stoick, Hiccup's old man! I have never expect him, who is known for his brawniness and action-packed persona, made famous in the movie 300, would actually play a voice-over for a cartoon character. After finding out, spotting his voice and hearing the familiarity was much, much easier.
And of course, the creme de la creme of the entire movie: TOOTHLESS!! He is just so, so, so, soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo uber cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuute~~~~!!!!! When I read about him in fanfics and caught glimpses of him through fanarts, I was thinking, "Hey, this dragon is quite cute." Now amplify that feeling by a gajillion times more. That's how I feel about Toothless. He started off a little vicious with his snake-like slit for eyes, trying to act strong and tough like the dragon he was, but the moment he let his guard down a little, he got these pair of big doe eyes that is just so MOE and SQUEE-worthy. And of course I finally learn how he got his namesake: with retractable teeth that he can materialize at will
Tumblr media
My most favourite scene of the entire movie would be this scene where Toothless finally was at peace with Hiccup and allowed him to touch him. The way Toothless tried to copy his drawing, and then growled whenever Hiccup stepped on his drawing, then Hiccup moved to avoid the lines in tune with the music until finally they were so close they were allowed to touch was just so AWW-worthy. And the music score was perfect too, especially the title of that score: Forbidden Friendship. Isn't that just sweet?
The part where Hiccup and Toothless slowly develop that bond while trying to get Toothless back on his flight feet again was also very interesting as they slowly worked together and forget each other's differences to reach a common goal, while at the same time trying to learn about each other, and Hiccup using that knowledge to good use (the eel and the scratching of the neck part was really epic), making him the life of the team, much to his crush, Astrid's chagrin.
I also love the part where Hiccup tries to convince everyone during the final exam of killing a dragon that dragons are not what they think they are, and tried to pacify the Monstrous Nightmare only to be interrupted by Stoick and having Toothless coming to the rescue (damsel in distress much, Hiccup? XD) and revealed their relationship. It felt really sad and my heart just broke when Hiccup shouted Toothless for him not to kill Stoick and Toothless looked at him with his doe eyes, then Hiccup tries in vain to stop everyone from hurting Toothless, and that argument which led to his disowning, and earning back his role as a son by proving his worth and Toothless' reputation, though a cost of his leg. I was wondering where would be the scene where he looses his leg, since I read that he had a prosthetic in fanfics, but turns out it happened in the near end of the movie, and literally mirrored Toothless' missing left tail fin.
Ending is a bit cliche where he gets the girl, he is lauded as a war hero and gained the respect of everyone including his father, the dragons made peace with humans and all that, but still it was a very heartwarming cliche scene. One that leaves a smile on your face and a sigh of contentment in your heart.
Speaking of Astrid, not really sure it's because of that yaoi in me, but I never really saw Astrid as a suitable pairing for Hiccup. I know, I'm not usually one for bestiality, but seriously, can't you just FEEL the love between Hiccup and Toothless to the point where you can consider them as lovers? Toothcup (Toothless/Hiccup) pairings are in the rage right now since the movie has been uber popularize, and you cannot deny that sort of relationship exist, right?
Tumblr media
This one, personally I feel, is almost as par as the first one. Not better, not worse, but more or less par. Hiccup and Astrid are still together, but the Toothcup shipper in me just don't feel like they match somehow. Moreso, suddenly out of the blue, Snotlout and Fishlegs were heads over heels with Ruffnut, which I ABSOLUTELY have NO CHEMISTRY feel whatsoever! Even after I've watched their TV series that led to the second movie, I STILL don't get the vibe or the chemistry between those three people. It's like "Wait, what?" moment.
Although that moment when Ruffnut was just totally thirsty for Eret was absolutely hilarious though. I couldn't help laughing and cringing at the same time.
When the moment Hiccup's mom Valka showed up, I was not expecting her to be so... skinny. Stoick said that he made helmets out of Hiccup's mom's breast plate, and it seemed pretty big, but looking at her, she didn't look like someone who was close to being a big bosom woman, but what is continuity anyways? LOL Though Hiccup definitely has inherited her knack for dragons. Guess it's in the blood after all.
I teared up a little when Stoick died, and I felt so bad that their bromance was threatened by this, but thankfully Hiccup still loves Toothless and is willing to forgive him and try to bring him back to his side. Goes to show how deep their bond is, and Toothless ended up becoming the Alpha Dragon was one of the most epic moments in the whole movie.
It also kinda interesting that Hiccup has somehow became pretty hot in this movie. Was pretty surprised at how he transformed from the awkward tiny little runt of a boy to a strapping man LOL
Tumblr media
Plot feels similar to the 2nd one, but the ending was so so SO bittersweet. A fitting ending, but sweet yet painful for me to watch.
My heart broke at the scene wen Hiccup was complaining about Toothless being in love n said "Am I not enough?" and I was like internally screaming "YES! U ARE ENOUGH!! U TWO ARE ENOUGH!! FUCK THAT LIGHT FURY!!"
Throughout the courtship scene btwn Toothless and the Light Fury i was like internally screaming "NO, SHE'S A TRAP! SHE'S A FUCKING TRAP! HICCUP, WHY ARE YOU OKAY WITH THIS?! I'M NOT HAPPY WITH THIS! I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS!!"
I cried like a fucking baby, especially at the end of the movie. It was like I knew it was happening, that they were gonna break up, but I was in denial, then when Toothless hugged Hiccup goodbye, I lost it, waterworks all over. In fact, waterworks all the way to the end at their final reunion ugly-cried like a fucking baby.
It did ended perfectly; perfectly bittersweet and perfectly heartbreaking and I was like "This is it. It's official. It's over. My Toothcup ship has fucking sank!!"
Fuck you, DreamWorks, you have killed my bromance!! Gahh!! I hate and love this movie at the same time!
Overall rating:
HTTYD: 9/10
HTTYD2: 7.5/10
HTTYD: 9/10

Astrid’s Road To Becoming A Helpless Mary Sue
Before I start, I just wanted to say that I love Astrid as a character, and this is coming from a place where I fell out of love with writing her but am still trying to figure out how to properly portray her in my stories.
We are introduced to Astrid as the badass girl Hiccup, our talking fishbone protagonist, has a crush on. There’s also the name bias playing a role from the get-go: While most of the characters have hideous names, here we have Astrid, whose name means something like “beautiful goddess”. The movie tells us from the very first scene that Astrid is different from the others, and Hiccup can’t help but fall in love with her. I mean, honestly, who wouldn’t fall in love with her?
Her first line is “No turning back.” during dragon training. Astrid is a strong, confident, fierce leader–the complete opposite of Hiccup. She’s a warrior with a strong sense of duty who works hard and hides her true self behind a cold exterior. Astrid is arrogant, prideful, and even mean at Hiccup’s half-assed training attempts. I do, however, think that she cares about Hiccup (she’s the first to notice that Hiccup keeps disappearing and acting weird–well, weirder!). If circumstances were different, and they weren’t at war, they could probably naturally have become friends. BUT. She also takes a passive stand when the rest of the gang (and even the rest of Berk) bullies Hiccup. As they say, neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim.
Like any other Berkian, Astrid is prejudiced. Misguided. And stubborn. Everything changes when she has that beautiful “A whole new world” moment riding Toothless. She smiles for the first time; she’s amazed, and we have a glimpse of what she really looks like behind the strong and resolute warrior image. But I’m gonna say it right now: Astrid’s Mary Sue path is set in stone as soon as she hooks up with Hiccup. Which I will loosely call the “That’s for the kidnapping, and that’s for everything else” moment.
Now, Astrid is still her own person, her loyalties have just shifted from her tribe to Hiccup. That moment after they discover the nest, and she mocks him for wanting to protect his pet, Hiccup stands up to her for the first time. Hiccup mofo Haddock, Berk’s pariah, defies her. That’s when she realizes how serious he is. That’s when she starts to respect him. Astrid’s the first one to really trust him, and she chooses to trust him over everything she has known until that point. And that becomes the basis for a really strong and beautiful relationship. But it also makes Astrid’s main role to support the hero. Let’s not kid ourselves, our girl is no damsel in distress. Astrid is still the strong warrior we know she is. She saves Hiccup in the arena, putting herself in harm’s way, and even when he tries to get to Toothless, she stops him before things can get messier. She’s the one who holds him accountable and calls him out on his bullshit when he tries to escape his problems. She talks to him face to face. On the same level. As equals.
I’m a hardcore Hiccstrid shipper, but the more I thought about it, the more I saw Astrid as Hiccup’s prize for saving the world. “Too bad you lost your leg, but hey, at least you got the girl!”
And now the second movie.
Astrid is still the strongest Viking. She’s reliable, talented, and as badass as she was in the first movie. And that’s it. Don’t get me wrong, she still mocks him, she still calls out on his crap, she’s still Hiccup’s confidant and right hand, but Astrid’s main role is to chase after Hiccup. Like, literally.
Her only flaw (if it can be called one) is her unwavering loyalty to him. Because she trusts Hiccup so much, she becomes reckless and breaks rules if it means helping him. Even when she questions his choices or disagrees with them, she still rolls with it because she trusts Hiccup to always do (or try to do) the right thing. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
From a companionship perspective, their bond is commendable. Their trust for each other is very strong, they know what the other is thinking or feeling without needing words, and they are there for each other no matter the situation. They love each other with their hearts and souls. Their relationship is truly beautiful, I just wish we could see more of her than that.
The only part of the movie when Astrid acts on her own (sans Hiccup) is when she kidnaps Eret. There, we can see that she’s still a leader, and she’s still a feisty and sassy queen. Astrid makes it her mission to rescue those dragons from Drago, even when she realized that Hiccup was not captured by the enemy. That has everything to do with Astrid’s own morals and wanting to do what she sees as right.
Astrid knows her place. She’s Hiccup’s second in command, and she’s fine with it. Even after Valka comes back, she knows there is a line between what she can do as Hiccup’s closest ally and the presence of his mother. There are boundaries, and she knows where she stands. Like when Hiccup tries to stop Drago’s control on Toothless right after Stoick dies, Valka stops him just like Astrid did in the first movie.
Movie 3.
Yet again, Astrid is the only competent warrior (Valka being an exception) in the group. It really is beautiful to see how far Hiccup and Astrid’s teamwork has come. There’s a specific scene that’s very dear to me, and it’s when Hiccup is building Toothless’ tail and Astrid helps him. It’s very domestic and he doesn’t need to tell her what to do, she just knows and helps him because she’s still his number one supporter.
The third movie is pretty much a repetition of the other ones. Hiccup being insecure and not believing in himself, Astrid being his emotional support and confidant. They fly somewhere together and discover things that move the plot forward. They fight the World’s Greatest Dragon Master Bad Guy Of The Week. Movie makes us believe they are never gonna see their dragons again. Syke! Hiccup and Astrid get married and have cute babies. The end.
I’m not gonna analyze the specials or the TV series, because it’s been a while since I watched those, and ain’t nobody got time for that (writing this whole thing is already being a pain). Besides, the midquels came after the movies, and any character development we see in the series is reset when the next movie starts. I will give a shout out to some of the things I can remember off the top of my head though: Astrid befriending another alpha female (and plotting with her behind Hiccup’s back); Astrid still being prideful and stubborn; Astrid learning to work with the other riders, Snotlout in special. And also Ruffnut caring about her brother just because.
I still think Astrid is a flawed character, and I still think she has her own personality and exists beyond the “trophy wife” category. But I wish we could’ve seen more of her than just that.
The only thing Astrid doesn’t do that saves her from being a complete Mary Sue is that she doesn’t overshadow Hiccup. The How To Train Your Dragon franchise is very much Hiccup and Toothless’ adventures. Minor characters not having any depth can also be attributed to that fact. And I get it. Limited screen time and all that, minor plots must meet the chopping board. I just wish DreamWorks didn’t do her dirty like that. Did you know that none of the movies pass the Bechdel-Wallace test?
Anyway, if you disagree with me or have anything to add, please do so. I really do love Astrid and all I want is to do her character justice.

Heck, just imagine them going to school right now.Astrid would be the popular girl, the one who's great in sports, the one who knows all the kids, the one who gets invited to parties, the athletic and strong one, who dreams of being a sports teacher one day,the one who would punch the daylights out of those boys who dared to flirt with her,the one who wouldn't take anything from anyone, she would be the queen bee if the school, every guy would have a crush on her.She would be a disaster at cooking(yaknog is proof of that)and art.But at the end if the day she would still be kind and caring and would never let her reputation make her someone she dosen't want to, if she can help it.She would probably have alot of friends but would worry of all of them are actually for real or not,she would probably ignore Hiccup at first because she had a reputation to keep but when it would come down to doing the right thing or protecting her reputation, you can bet that she would choose the right thing. Those two would still have a lot in common like the fact that they are both pretty smart and sarcastic and pass all of their test with an A or A plus,at least a B,and would always be fighting for the second position since Fishlegs would always be first.Hiccup on the other hand would be the total opposite,he would be that weird guy who always sits at the back of the class, not to talk but to avoid his bullies,he would be super nerdy and would like to spend all his free time in the library or in one of his clubs,he would be the one who loves to donate money to charity. He would be great at cooking and art.He would also be filthy rich, since he would be the mayor's son,but you would never hear him brag about that, instead he would probably get bullied for being such a screw-up and fishbone when his father was such an accomplished man,he would probably have a pretty strained relationship with his dad as well. But he would still be the kind, gentle, sarcastic, sassy, insecure, funny, dorky Hiccup we all know and love.
Just bear with me and imagine,Its their senior year,Snotlout and the twins are picking on him for being such a disappointment to his father,Astrid coming to his aid. Hiccup saying his thanks, offering Astrid coffee as an repayment for her kindness.Astrit telling him that it was the right thing to do and nobody would have just stood and let him be bullied, but she accepted his offer,Hiccup telling that she was wrong and that if anyone else had seen that they would have encouraged Snotlout to continue. This would have probably caused Astrid to be shocked, abd asking Hiccup why he would think in such a way, Hiccup swiftly telling her that it happened on a daily basis. This would probably raise many questions, and by the time they reach the cafe, owned by Dagur the Deranged Astrid is wondering why she hadn't noticed this boy before. She immediately apologizes for not noticing him and Hiccup just shrugging it off with a"Why would you notice a guy like me anyway?".Astrid lightly punching his shoulder and telling him that he seemed like a great guy and he shouldn't be so hard on himself.Hiccup just replying with a sarcastic comment. They keep chatting for a while.Hiccup insisting on walking Astrid home,Astrud giving him her number, telling him to call her later. This causes a new friendship and they both realize that they have many things in common, their sass, sarcasm and stubbornness for example.Astrid falling for this nerdy and dorky guy, while Hiccup always liked Astrid. The school being shocked at the unusual friendship those two have. Some even begin to ship those two.All the bullies backing off once they realize that Astrid is ready to kill anyone who harms Hiccup.Hiccup's relationship with his dad starts to improve and Astrid seems to have a great relationship with Stoick, who is the biggest Huccstrid shipper alive(the man even has a Hiccstrid shirt).Astrid meeting Gobber Hiccup's crazy godfather, who Hiccup seems to have a weird but pretty good relationship with, who also not all subtley asks when they are gonna bang, which causes both of them to blush and tell him they are just friends.Hiccup and Astrid both the biggest fans alive for the movie How to train your dragon.Astrid meets Hiccup's cat Toothless,at first they are both wary of each other but they soon warm up to each other.Hicvup meeting Stormfly Astrid's parrot, and they both immediately like each other, unlike Toothless and Astrid.
Then a fire happens.Hiccup's cat Toothless gets stuck and Hiccup rushes to save him.He success but loses the lost part of his left leg.Astrid finding out and immediately rushing to the hospital.Astrid finding out that Hiccup is unconscious and has list his lower left leg,Astrid crying and realizing that she loves Hiccup. Finally Hiccup wakes up,he's devasted to find out about his left leg. Astrid coming to visit him, punchimg his shoulder, scolding him to her scare her like that again,Hiccup sassing back that go just got up and he has enough injuries and didn't need another one, which instantly lightens up the mood.Astrid keeps visiting him straight from school, bringing her schoolwork along and keeping Hiccup up to date with both the schoolwork and the gossip.Hiccup getting out of the hospital, walking on crutches for a while,he also takes intensive therapy.Astrud getting him through the days when he's feeling hopeless or feeling as if he doesn't deserve to live or he's not a man because he lost his leg.Astrid being there for him, comforting him, being his strength. And Hiccup does the same for her,he gets her though her worst days,he reminds her that she's a wonderful person when she feels insecure. He also reminds Astrid that he will always be there for her making her feeling cared for.The school losing their mind watching those two oblivious people be so blind to each other's feelings, when it's cleared day they belong together.
Then comes graduation, both of them pass with great marks and are going to the same university. They go to a cliffside after graduation, abd watch the sunset, and in that moment Astrid confesses her feelings and Hiccup tells her he has felt that way for her for a long time.As the sun sets they both kiss and that is how they start dating. They both accomplish their dreams, and end up married, with Hiccup as an engineer and Astrid the sports teacher of Berk High. They gave two kids named Zephyr and Nuffink
That's all.Thank you for taking the time of day to read my useless cliche garbage.I don't even know what possessed me to write this, and I doubt that I will ever know.Anyway thank you to whoever is reading this.

I JUST SAW HTTYD 3 TODAY
Un. Follow. Me now, this is going to be the only thing I post about for weeks.
Please, please do not read this if you haven’t been a lucky bastard of an Australian. Do not click read more on pc, go back to your blog and block the tag httyd 3 spoilers on mobile, unfollow me if you want to.
There was no assigned seat system so I sat in front of the door to go in first and get a good one, but two guys (as in, fandom age) beat me. I wonder if they have tumblr...
Things I loved (prepare for a long list):
THAT OPENING SCENE
Hiccup boards a ship to free dragons and swordfights this guard dude. Guard knocks over a lamp, setting the deck on fire and Hiccup and a blue glowing Toothless deadass walk through it. Boi that was awesome
This is Berk.
Lots of action scenes in general. Hiccup with a sword is my new aesthetic. I did not pay a lot of attention, but I think he fought left handed.
The visuals.
Hot.
Damn.
Thought httyd 2 Berk was impressive? I think not.
THAT NEW BERK ISLAND
THE CAMP
THE WATERFALL
THE CLOUDS
SNOWY NEW BERK ISLAND
THE SAND
Oh boy the sand. Because there are no places like that waterfall or new Berk island it is obviously fake, but the clouds and sand... If you took a screenshot and said it was a photo I’m pretty sure 99% of the people would believe you.
All the decors. Dreamworks made So. Many. Environments. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an animated movie with this level and amount of sets and details. This beats Finding Dory, Big Hero 6, httyd 2 by far. Maybe Zootopia and Moana reached this level, but never on this scale.
The composition. Whoever did the cinematography, kudos to you. The fight scenes were awesome, actually, most of the shots were.
The music. John Powell amirite??? When Hiccup sits there with his map. When they introduce Grimmel’s fort. When they go into the waterfall. Test flight when Light Fury saves Hiccup...
Drago’s fleet was cool, but Grimmel has a freaking aircraft/helicopter thing. Who does this guy think he is? Norbert the Nutjob?
Speaking of Grimmel HE SAID IT HE SAID IT WHEN HE BROKE INTO HICCUP’S HOUSE
“You wish for a world where humans and dragons live as equals? That will be the end of civilization.” Or something like that. Can you hear my book fandom heart beating faster? There was even a faintly recognizable ‘history repeats itself’.
The entirety of Berk on the move. Dragons carrying bags, entire ships with stuff and lots and lots of citizens. I don’t know when Hiccup acquired all this power to make people listen to him immediately, but he’s owning it.
The gang, minus Snotlout, had an actual part in the plot, unlike httyd 1 and 2 where they were mainly background characters. Gobber had a running gag with funny round dragons. I LOVE THEM OK they are so round.
TINY HICCUP IN THE FLASHBACKS Stoick was so sweet on him, and the way he speaks about Valka.... Take notes Disney, that’s a declaration of love.
No hate on Light Fury. She was the amazing ball of feral sass that I hoped she would be. She noped out when Toothless tried to flirt and yeeted Hiccup off his back. You go girl.
Toothless being a Skrill.
Toothless being da king. I got chills. Toothless my baby you are so amazing
That scene where Grimmel symbolically rips off Hiccup’s dragon-y wings, night fury pauldron and leg... Cressida Cowell would be proud of that.
“The world if not ready for dragons. Yet”
HICCUP TRULY SAID IT CAN I GET ALL BOOK FANS TO SAY IT WITH ME?
At the last hand thing where Hiccup slowly takes his hand off Toothless, I swear I heard someone cry softly. I don’t blame them.
Have I mentioned the visuals yet?
Things that I thought were very good, but not True Perfection My Life Is Complete 10/10 level good:
The ending was kind of sudden. Grimmel is defeated and then Hiccup decides to let Toothless go free? And then the entirety of Berk unsaddles their dragons to let them go? Yes, I understand, but I thought it would have taken an ENTIRE movie for him to do that. It WAS there throughout the movie, but it was never the main focus (the way Tadashi’s death was in BH6). The attention was always on either Grimmel or the Light Fury.
This in general. The emotions were the subplots instead of the main ones.
The whole “What is Hiccup without Toothless?” was a most perfect plot that kind of.... was resolved far easier than I hoped. It was still good, just not “hero the hard way”-level good.
“Hiccup makes Toothless a self-flying tail fin while that was a major point of their soulmate-ness” was missing some emotional weight. Hiccup was clearly super distressed, it was just not addressed a lot.
The Hiccstrid wedding plot was nice and I suspect lots of shippers will have their funerals in theatre, however, I think that too was not “companions of the Dragonmark”-level good. BUT THEY ARE SO CUTE! THEY ARE SUCH A REALISTIC AND GOOD COUPLE LIKE THEY WERE IN HTTYD 2. No mushy romance, just two badass Vikings who are so comfortable around each other it can only be true love.
Random stuff:
Eret might be gay for Gobber.
Snotlout might have slapped Hiccup’s butt.
Valka beat Spitelout (voiced by David Tennant despite not having any real lines) in arm wrestling.
Ruffnut annoying Grimmel the way only she can.
Valka has bits of grey in her hair, but her face still looks super young.
The whole gang has flight suits
Things I did not like:
Toothless fell in love too fast. He ditched Hiccup’s flirting tactics and made her a drawing. Cool. He got mad when she stepped on the lines. Cool. But then she got mad as well and Toothless just.... left it at that. Apparently he was so lovestruck he let Light Fury trample his art. No.
Things I hated with every inch of my being (that is not a lot of inches by the way):
Snotlout flirting with a Valka.
Gods... He is younger than Hiccup. Valka is Hiccup’s mom. Blergh.
Things I understand and fit the movie verse but annoyed me because it killed the entire meaning of Cressida Cowell’s conclusion (yes this is very specific):
The ending.
The dragons leave. Hiccup smiles through his tears because he knows this is the best thing to do. Toothless becomes king of the dragon world. Light Fury is his queen. Hiccup and Astrid marry and have cute children. Hiccup grows a beard. So far so good. Very good ending.
But then. Then Toothless reappears and meets Hiccup’s son and daughter. -_-
I don’t know about you, but wasn’t the whole point that dragons went into the hidden world to hide from humans? Wasn’t the whole point that ‘great things are only made out of love and pain’ and that doing the good thing also meant letting Toothless go? I wanted a heartbreaking ending. The bittersweet one from book 12. And this just felt like a fairytale that was too good to be true.
Yet at the same time, I like this ending. Toothless has his own life. Hiccup is his own person without Toothless. He’s a good chief and everyone is generally happy. The world does not believe dragons exist. Except for Berk.
Berk is this special place that dragons sometimes visit before returning back to the hidden world because Berlin’s do love dragons.
And come on. Kids and parents would riot if Hiccup and Toothless did separate for good.
Things that whacked me in the face like
"There were dragons when I was a boy"
BUT HE DID NOT ONLY SAY THAT HE SAID THE ENTIRE THING
THE ENTIRE THING from ‘There were dragons when I was a boy’ TO ‘leaving not a bone, not a fang, in the earth for the men of the future to remember them by.’
I died.

🔥 rtte 🔥
I was just ranting about rtte missing out on a major chance for comedy this morning, and I’ve been wanting to make a post about it anyway, so I’ll do it here:
This is not a commentary on quality or whether rtte should exist or whether it’s canon.  This is an emphatic insistence that rtte made a big mistake by not just letting Snotlout and Astrid date for like half a season.
I know, I know, I’m the snotstrid shipper and I’m just being obnoxious with it but hear me out: it would have fixed the whole weird rush of Hiccstrid getting together at the end of season 4 and also, been hilarious and also just dealt with the weird sexual tension that made them hang all over each other in The Longest Day.
I will explain under a cut, because I have so many adamant feelings about this:
So The Longest Day happened, and it wasn’t out of the blue (fight me they’re so ridiculous that season) and Astrid is someone who commits once she has weird daytime midnight sex with kisses someone.  And they’ve been spending a lot of time together at the edge and ok, let’s try it, it’s more solid character building than the rest of the show anyway, so just join me on this concept journey.
One, there’s the hilarious concept of everyone learning that Snotstrid is dating.  There’s a lot of blank stares, a lot of deep confusion at the concept that Snotstrid is capable of holding hands.  Hiccup is like “I kind of thought Astrid and I were dating”, Heather is like “maybe you should have had an actual conversation with your supposed girlfriend about being your girlfriend before she went clinically insane and started dating Snotlout”.  There’s just…so many layers of comedy gold there.
Two, the crew has to go back to Berk for some reason and Astrid isn’t embarrassed, ok, she’s not, but she really doesn’t want Stoick to know about this yet because she still wants him to respect her and she’s not sure where that stands if she’s not attached to Hiccup.  It involves shenanigans in which Snotlout has to keep the secret that he’s dating Astrid, probably as his dad is a dick and they’re pitted against each other in all the old ways that feel weird now.  Hiccup is probably the one who blurts it out in the end and Stoick is like “come on how’d you mess that one up” and Hiccup is like “apparently there’s a conversation involved and I didn’t have that, but she seems happy and I’m happy for her” because Actual Support, kthx.
Three, battle tactics change, Viggo is like “this is not how I saw this going” but it’s hard for the riders to maintain formation when the 2nd and 3rd in command are super ride or die for each other all of a sudden.  Discussions about leadership that allow Snotlout to maintain the relative level of composure and grains of maturity that he gained in previous seasons.
Four, I just thought of this this morning, but Snotlout starts winning at life for like the first time ever.  Any argument that crosses his path can be answered with “yeah, well I’m dating Astrid”.  Yes, it even works on Astrid, because Gods, who trusts her judgement right now, she’s dating Snotlout, she’s probably not right.
Then, let it fall apart.  Let them have fun and come to terms with the fact that the experience bettered them in unique ways.  Like Astrid made her own decision instead of waiting around (like she does for everything but Hiccup but I Digress), but families are complicated and maybe she just doesnt’ see much of a future to it.  Like Spitelout as a father in law?  That’s a legitimate complaint.  Her parents probably aren’t cool with it and that matters.  For Snotlout, maybe Astrid’s approval was always sort of emblematic and he felt like if he could just get it, he could prove something to the world.  And he did that and he’s still working on himself and it’s confusing.
Like, here’s the part I couldn’t write because once those two stubborn assholes commit to each other, they’re solid, but again, sticking with the premise, it falls apart.  They break up.  They break up and they have to see each other all the time and then there’s the new hilarity over the fact that neither one of them knows how to fucking act now.
Like is hitting still flirting?  Astrid doesn’t know, sometimes she dodges hitting him completely and sometimes she hits way too hard.  Snotlout doesn’t understand the concept of airing someone else’s dirty laundry and announces things he shouldn’t, he doesn’t know how to make up for it aside from embarrassing himself.  Astrid is still mad, but appreciates it.  Just…the whole shenanigans of learning to be friends again, instead of oddly escalating moments of sexual tension that made no sense because she was with Hiccup.  Definitely remove that “if you hadn’t shot down Toothless, I’d be marrying Snotlout and have a SICK golden axe” moment, because that made no sense.
Also, Hiccup comforting Astrid after a breakup?  Hilarious.  He realized how much he still likes her, or maybe it’s a new like, he doesn’t really know but he was happy for her being happy and now he doesn’t want her to be sad.  But it’s weird.  Awkward shoulder pats and offers for a shoulder to cry on and she’s like “I”m not crying, I don’t cry” even as this is probably the first fundamental failure she’s ever dealt with in her life and she’s struggling.  Let him give her space and be delighted when she doesn’t take him up on it, because everyone else is still being weird.
Like, what if instead of pretending that this bizarre and obvious connection between Snotlout and Astrid wasn’t there, they just had a little teenage fling and both grew as people and then got to maintain that growth and have it strengthen relationships around them?  Like, as it stands, it doesn’t make much sense that Snotlout had come so far in respecting Astrid and then he goes off thinking that the lesbian island is all in love with him.  But if he were newly dumped?  Yeah, he could be going through a “women suck” phase.  Astrid having to rescue her ex when he enraged a bunch of lesbians trying to get over her?  Interesting.
It would have fixed so much, ok?  And been hilarious.  And no one is ever going to read this giant rtte meta in the year 2019 but I don’t care, it’s off my chest now.

Stoick invited Hiccup to a Charity Benefit Party and so everybody who was in the house went. Astrid didn’t because I had her do an odd job. The baby went to daycare.
We didn’t stay long.
Also THIS GUY SHOWED UP.
Also??? Mele, one of the Sulani pre-made townies is pregnant!
Also, this is pretty close, Viggo and Hiccup. Merry Junemas Vigcup shippers.
I had Snotlout shout at Viggo.
Also, Stoick was hosting and apparently you can donate like 500 Simoleons a couple of times during the party so I had them do that. Though they didn’t stay for the whole event.

I lived through The Hidden World!
It was so beautiful and emotional, but still had great laughs! I love it so much! Now I must rant about everything!
MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW!
The animation was stunning! The colors, the effects, everything! And I saw it in 3-D, so you know I got the full experience!
It’s Gobber who’s the one who brings up the marriage between our favorite viking power couple! It was so awkward! XD It keeps coming up again over the film.
Grimmel is indeed a dark character. He is intelligent, manipulative, and kills dragons for the fun of it. He just one of those guys you gotta hate. While Hiccup is about changing the world, Grimmel wants to keep it as it is; humans vs dragons.
The other Dragon Riders got more detail in their personalities than the previous films, and one thing I really loved about that is how constant they are to their characters in the TV series.
Snotlout still has a huge ego, but he also keeps fumbling up. Getting his flight suit caught, getting burned by Hookfang (literally), he even has some of his insecurities, as shown when he confronts Eret. He’s the new guy, tall and muscular, and Snotlout feels like he needs to compete with him... to impress Valka! Dude, she’s twice your age! XD It was great seeing all that.
Fishlegs, the bighearted dragon lover who literally takes a baby everywhere. He geeks out about the new dragons and feels very much like how he is in Riders, Defenders, and RttE.
Ruffnut being a glorious girl. She gets captured (again), and she does what she does best, annoy. She just talks and talks and talks. Clearly getting on Grimmel’s nerves. There isn’t any fighting over her, but we do get more into her love life. She’s over Eret and trying to choose between Snotlout and Fishlegs. Weirdly, she does call Snotlout beautiful, but at the end of the film, it looks like she picks Fishlegs. She likes sensitive guys. I was actually very happy about this since I’m a Rufflegs shipper myself.
Even though Tuffnut has a new voice actor, he does a great job capturing his “nutty” essence. Tuff keeps going on and on about his “beard,” which is just his dreadlocks tied together. I”m all for the headcanon Tuff can’t grow facial hair. But seeing him trying to be Hiccup’s wingman about marriage was awesome. He wants to be there for our chief Hiccy. Yes, he actual calls him that, even Hiccup questions it.
Valka, Gobber and Eret were no less wonderful. I’m happy to see how much Eret has been helping. Despite their earlier encounters, he and Valka seem to get along. I can also see why people are shipping him with Gobber. ^^; I prefer them more friends myself.
And Stoick, oh Stoick. I miss you! We got a couple flashbacks with him. Not just about the Hidden World, but of love and loss. Even when he’s gone, he’s still helping Hiccup. Guiding him to be a strong leader, and a good friend.
Now on to Toothless and his new girlfriend! Toothless is instantly smitten by her. He’s got it bad. He even kisses the wall his shadow is on thinking about her! It makes sense. His hormones are raging as he’s probably never seen another of his kind. It’s so cool watching him cloak using his own method. Still, as the film progresses, his attraction to the Light Fury and his friendship with Hiccup begin to clash. He hesitates to leave bit after Hiccup makes him a new tail to fly so he can be with the Light Fury. But even when he doesn’t return, Toothless still save Hiccup and Astrid when they’re attacked in the Hidden World. Even after that, Toothless doesn’t seem mad about leaving, just sad. When the Light Fury follows them back, he gives Hiccup a big lick. Toothless still loves him.
It’s clear very early on why the Light Fury doesn’t trust humans. She was captured by the warlords, and only to be released to be used as bait by Grimmel. Even though it takes awhile, she eventually does learn to be more open with Hiccup after he save her.
Watching the dragons leave... that was sad. Even though Hiccup was talking to Toothless, the other Berkians understood it was not safe for their dragons either. They knew they would follow their Alpha to a safe home, and while the Hidden World is beyond beautiful, it is not a place for humans. It differs from the books, with the dragons slowly going into hiding over the years, and Hiccup still has Toothless, although he does say his dragon has been spending more and more time away. It’s a very sad and heartbreaking truth: as long as there are selfish and greedy humans, the world will never be safe for dragons.
AND NOW EPILOGUE!
Years later, Hiccup and his family (yes we get a wedding!) are traveling to the Hidden World. *I’m going to do a separate rant post on their daughter because there’s so much I love about her* I got very emotional on how similar Hiccup’s closing narration was to the books, and not just the “There were dragons when I was a boy” part. And we see Toothless now has his own family! BABY NIGHT LIGHTS! And of course Toothless is so happy to see Hiccup again! It was so cute watching the kids reach out to him. And having them all fly together! ToT
This movie was such a blessed experience! I even started an applause when the logo came up at the end! I will definitely see it again and again! 15/10!
