@peresephones, bonus Annette the Red snippet, because even if she will not make this draft, who doesn't love an acearo vampire stuck in the golden age of piracy?
The figure was still partly obscured by the shadow of a broad, tricorn hat. A feather jammed into it wiggled slightly as its owner sauntered over the patio.
“Ah, there thou art, old Jacky boy. And all prettied up too, ‘pon my troth!”
The dulled point of a cutlass jabbed into Caz’s vest. He ran a hand down his face.
“Evening, Annette,” he said. “What are you doing here?”
The woman tossed back a mess of long, loose red hair. She was wearing a red jacket with buttons down its front that flared out past her knees. Underneath it was an expanse of skirts and petticoats hitched up to reveal tan breeches and high, leather boots. She waved her cutlass in the air as Tala muffled a snort.
“This be where all the devils are roosting tonight, ain’t it?” she asked. “And ain’t I one of them devils?”
“Vampires,” Caz said. “How many times have I explained to you? We’re vampires not devils.”
Annette strolled past him, her mouth open wide enough in a laugh Jade could see needle-sharp fangs. In the moonlight, the blue veins along her neck and face looked almost bioluminescent.
“Perchance I like mine own word better?” she asked, and Jade had to hold back a laugh. Annette seemed to notice.
“Found another pretty thing, eh, thou big gandermooner?” she asked, leaning in until their noses almost touched before whirling away to address the other vampires.
“Jacky always had a weakness for the girls and boys he’d find at port,” she said. “Taking ‘em aboard and making moon eyes till he’d finally break and have a feast of ‘em.”
“Annette,” Caz cut in. “We’re trying to have a discussion here.”
A low chuckle emanated from Temo.
“No, let her talk, Mraz,” he said. “I love hearing about your time as a swashbuckling pirate.”
“Privateer,” Caz said, swinging his long arms outward in a plea. “We were privateers. Not pirates.”
Annette turned back to him and wrapped an arm over his shoulder, hanging off him as if he were a tree she could climb — or maybe a mast.
“Ah, but who could forget Bloodless Jack and Annette the Red!” she said.
“I hate when you call me that,” Caz said, peeling away Annette’s limbs. “You know I hate it, don’t you? Or did you forget everything that’s happened after 1789?”
“Ah, well thou didst hate when they called thee ‘Jack the Slovak,’ so -”
“Because I’m not Slovakian!” Caz cried. “I’m fucking Romanian — well, Polish on my father’s side — thou shalt call me either Casimir Mraz or Kazimir Iosifescu, not Jack, thou scurvy wench!”
He stopped and flushed nearly purple under the moonlight, drawing a breath as though he could suck the words back in. Tala and Temo choked with laughter. Jade couldn’t see what Valfierno was doing. He was somewhere past her line of sight, but had to be close.
“Perhaps Miss Annette would be interested in my latest product,” he said almost directly in her ear, confirming her suspicions.
Annette crossed her arms and whistled through her teeth.
“What be such a ‘product’ thou art peddling?” she asked.
He explained the device with a similar amount of gestures as when he presented to his larger audience in the pool. When he finished, Annette clapped his shoulder and laughed.
“Well, Eddie my lad, thou art a charming ruffian, but such things are no use for devils like meself or Jacky,” she said. “We live a bit simpler than you pretty things.”
Caz’s jaw clenched hard enough to break his own teeth.
“Whatever delusion thou hast — that you’ve cooked up, Annette,” he said. “My lifestyle is anything but simple.”
Countdown to NaNo, Part 4/4: Some more characters ...
Two days till NaNoWriMo! I'm not sure how ready I am for it, but for my last post, here's some more characters in Something Wicked:
Violet Anouilh
A hedgewitch living in a ranch outside Las Vegas with her mother, Marie, where they care for monsters and other supernatural creatures in need. Her powers specialize in plant and fungal growth. Likes: Jade Shaw. Dislikes: Caz Mraz
Ruby Hall
Jade's best friend and a witch working at a casino as a magician's assistant. The real trick? She's a master of illusions and the magician in question is her rabbit and familiar, Domino.
Lila Brown
Caz's ex and a werewolf with a past. She and Caz had a wild time in the 90s and 2000s, but something happened since that led to her not speaking to Caz beyond a few sentences.
Amber and Ember Byrne
The Byrne twins operate a funeral home in a strip mall in Las Vegas, serving as a front for selling all manner of ingredients to other witches. With Everett "Ember" Byrne's fire magic and Amber's necromancy, they make a formidable pair indebted to Theoris Myrina since the late 80s. Which brings us to ...
Theoris Myrina
Jade's former mentor and head of the Southwest Coven, which Jade was a part of until she made a deal with a vampire. According to the Byrne twins, Theoris is making some big changes due to some influences back east.
Kenneth Brooks
A detective on the verge of retirement trying to solve a series of seemingly unconnected homicides and disappearances. Old-fashioned cop not afraid of old-fashioned policework — such as blackmailing Caz and Jade to do his dirty work for him.
Amelia [redacted]
Caz's last girlfriend, who left him after interpreting his secretiveness and strange habits as signs of a drug addiction. Caz is determined to win her back (but if he happens to date some others along the way, including a rich Fae prince, what’s the harm?).

FFXIV Write 2022 Prompt #1: Cross
prefix - passing from side to side; transverse. re: crossroads - “a turning point, a moment of decision”
TW: Mentions of death and injury
Disclaimer: the author is still a Sprout who is just now completing A Realm Reborn, so please refrain from posting spoilers in tags or replies if you reblog. Thank you!
------------------------------------------------------
“I must admit I am curious, young Theodard. What drives you to draw sword and shield in your endeavors?”
“I fail to see how this information could be pertinent to a renowned scholar such as yourself”
“Humor an old man, my boy”
“...........I have a family. Nieces and nephews. I hope that my efforts might secure a brighter future for them”
“Truly?”
“Yes. Forgive me. I suppose it is not as altruistic as fighting ‘for the good of the realm’ “
“It is far more noble than you think. Such aspirations, if a man were to be honest with himself, are what he will remember should all else fail him.
“I shall endeavor to remember then, Master Louisoix”
-----------------------
Where was he?
Traders alive and Twelve forfend, where was he?
He felt neither warm nor cold. His skin prickled with the sensation, or rather the lack thereof. The feeling of weightlessness was equally alarming. He would have thought himself falling, but there was no feeling of air whistling past his ears, nor the drop in his gut that would come with plummeting towards one’s doom. No, it was almost as if he was.....floating.
Then there was the matter of the pitch blackness. He couldn’t see his own hand, let alone any of his surroundings.
He had to keep his wits about him, assess his circumstances, and plan his next course of action. But first he needed to figure out just where in the seven hells was he?
Think, Theodard, think, he chided himself. Think back to where you were last, to what was happening around you. Try to remember how you got here-
Cartenau.
The ringing of steel. The acrid smell of aether in the air. The blood red sky as Dalamund loomed ever closer-
Until it burst.
The moon. Burst. And what followed was a roar so loud and terrible it rivaled the thundering that came with the worst of Thanalan's summer storms.
Was he dead? Was that it? Had the flames that were devouring Cartenau finally claimed him? No, that couldn't be it. Surely he'd be standing before Nald'Thal and their grand scales, his life weighed under the Traders' watchful eyes. Surely he wouldn't feel quite so lucid, if he had departed his corporeal form.
Then what was he doing here? What force could have possibly pulled him into this strange world that felt devoid of both time and space?
That's when he heard it.
Help!
That voice. His blood ran cold with recognition.
Help me!
The panic he tried to stave off came crashing forward in full force as his memories came rushing back.
He was standing on the plains of Cartenau as the world burned around him, and that was when he heard it. Heard her. Gods be good, the girl couldn't have been foolish enough to follow him here when he gave her a strict directive not to?
"Thalia!" He called, relieved that at least his voice still worked in this strange purgatory. "Thalia!"
Whatever his original prerogative was would have to wait. He'd have to find her, and then, then they could find their way out.
-----------------------
Whatever he was expecting, the colossal, sentient crystal that often spoke to him in his dreams was not on his list.
Her voice wrapped around him like a caress, like a warm breeze in Thanalan’s twilight.
“Thou art drawn elsewhere, Bringer of Light. Thy notice lies not on what has been laid before thee”
And she was correct in her assessment. Though he was always struck with a sense of awe, whenever he held the sheer magnitude of her size, and the ancient power that seemed to radiate from her, his unease monopolized his attention.
“Forgive me, Mother Crystal. I find myself greatly vexed. I know not where I am, nor how I came to be here”
“Thy once stood on the plains of Cartenau”, was her answer after a pause. “Engaged in conflict with thine Imperial counterparts. Twas then that the lesser moon completed its descent. The great dreadwrym rose from within, laying waste to all in his path”
Theodard swallowed his irritation as the Mother Crystal seemed to repeat what he already knew. Fighting the Empire, Bahamut’s rampage. The land around him being lit aflame.
“So I am dead then” he surmised. Perhaps this was simply the fate of all of Hydaelyn's chosen, to spend eternity in her company.
“Nay”, came her response then, cutting through his thoughts, and Theodard could not hide his surprise. He wasn't dead? Then that left him right back where he started, pondering the banality of his circumstances.
As if sensing his confusion, Hydaelyn spoke again.
“Thy would have been lost amidst the flames, if not for the intervention of the great archmage. What power he had was summoned to propel thou and many others forward. With this action, he means to send you to an era beyond the dreadwrym's destruction”
Archmage? Louisoux then, Theodard deduced. Whatever miracle he had managed to pull off had saved him, as Hydaelyn had stated. But what could she have possibly meant with the rest of her explanation? An era beyond the dreadwrym’s destruction? Surely….it was impossible….
“Yet thy soul has been unable to complete this journey. For there is something that binds thee here. Thy desire is divided, a part of thy soul yearns to remain”
Yearns to remain. Twould be putting it mildly. Theodard could not very well ‘go beyond’ while still wondering at the fate of young Thalia.
“Mother Crystal, I wonder at the fate of my kin. I have reason to believe”, he swallowed, fearing what answer awaited him. “That she may be in peril”.
The silence that followed did little to assuage his dread. He wavered between yearning for Hydaelyn to give him his answer, and confirmed what he feared he already knew, and the desire to spare him and remain silent.
It seemed that she chose the former.
The streams of aether surrounding the Mother Crystal bent and shimmered as it condensed into a small shape a few yalms before him. It glowed and stretched, assuming the familiar form of-
“Thalia!”
And there she was, lying prone in front of him. It was the lack of movement that had him immediately close the distance, dropping to his knees and gathering her in his arms.
His blood ran cold in alarm once he got a good look at her. There was no ruddiness to her brown skin. In fact, she was enveloped in a dim blue light, nearly gossamer in her appearance. Her body was light as a handful of feathers and he could barely feel the weight of her in his arms. Hydaelyn’s ethereal voice cut through his dismay.
“The destruction of Dalamund has claimed countless lives across the realm. Thy kin is among them, struck down near the southern shores. Her spirit shall soon depart the corporeal”
Theodard felt the bile rise in his throat. “She’s...” he choked out, “she’s dying?”
“With thy gift, thou hast felt the agony that weigheth heavy on her soul. In her suffering, her soul hast called out for relief, and with thy gift, thou seemed inclined to answer”
She was dying and, unknowingly, reached out for help, a sense of desperation evident in her soul to end whatever it was she was enduring. Drawing a shuddering breath, Theodard looked to the girl cradled in his arms. Eyes closed, the rise and fall of her chest so minute it was barely perceptible, and still. So impossibly still.
His heart ached for his poor niece. What could have possibly happened to her while he was away? He couldn't imagine the pain she was feeling, how terrified she must have been, for it to be so palpable that her soul called out to him for help?
“Thy heart is heavy. Thy countenance grim. But fret not my child. Though she suffers now, soon, she will be at peace”
He couldn't help the surge of irrational anger that welled up within him. Fret not? Fret not? His family was dying, her fading soul lying limp in his arms, and there was nothing he could do about it. Thalia was barely 20 summers old, and he had to accept her future being so violently cut short? He had to take comfort in that?
No. No he would not, could not, accept this.
“She cannot die. Not like this. Please, Hydaelyn”
“The seeds of discord, sown by the harbingers of chaos, give way to many tragedies. Many have been lost”
If he didn't know any better, he would think Her words born of cruel indifference.
“Is there truly nothing that can be done for her?”, Theodard pleaded, his voice rough with desperation. “You have brought her soul here for me to see. Can you not reunite it with her corporeal form, heal her beyond whatever ailment is threatening her life? Surely that is within your power.”
“What was within mine capabilities is no longer. As the eons have passed, my power waxeth and wanes. The light grows dim, and what thou hast stated, is beyond me”
No, he thought, his mind reeling with panic. This could not be it. He did not fight in one battle after another for well over twenty summers, only for one of the very things he was trying to protect to be lost to him.
He had been there when each and every one of his nieces and nephews were born. Held them in his arms and looked into their wide eyes as they took in the bright, new world around them.
He greedily solicited their giggles, slayed the monsters that hid in the shadows under their beds and in the corners of their rooms, played the part of their accomplice when they wanted to hide away from the dreary slog of their lessons. He helped raise these children.
He had no desire to take a wife, nor sire children, yet he knew that seeing his nieces and nephews grow, taking joy in their happiness, was the closest thing he would experience to fatherhood.
It could not end like this. He wouldn't let it. He would give his own life if he had to-
Wait.
Perhaps….perhaps that was it.
“And what of my power? What of the gift I have? Can it not be passed to her? A life for a life. What grace has been granted to me, let it be hers. Please”
“Thy duty is not yet fulfilled, Bringer of Light. Even now, our adversaries continue to conspire. Through great power and sacrifice, thou hast been beckoned to continue on thy path. The star ever has need of a champion and can ill afford to lose even one. If thou are to prevent further tragedy, prithee let her go, and choose the way forward.”
This time the anger came back stronger. What justice was there in that? His life would be spared, saved by a miracle, simply because the world had need of him? Yet his niece would be lost, her life unable to be traded for his simply because the world had no use for her?
He would not deny the depth of Louisoux's sacrifice, but his conscience gnawed at him, reeling at the thought of leaving Thalia behind.
How could he possibly face his sister again if he did? How could he look Seliene in the eye and tell him that he had the opportunity to save her daughter, only to let it slip through his fingers?
He had to try. Whatever it took.
And may the Twelve, and Thalia, forgive him for what he was about to do.
“What if she were to take my place?” A part of his mind screamed at the madness of it all, but he forced himself to continue. “What if she were to bear the Light in my stead? If Eorzea has need of a champion, then they shall have it. I have fought my battles for many summers. If this is to be my last then so be it”
He knew he was practically begging, the desperation in his voice bordering on hysterical. For all he knew Hydaelyn grew silent, retreating into herself and growing deaf to his pleas. But he could not stop now.
“You care for the future of this world, as I do. What future awaits us if we abandon those who will inherit it? What are we fighting for if not for those like her, the ones who will live beyond us? Grant her my power. I give you my life and more. I cannot abandon her to oblivion. Let her take up sword and shield for Eorzea in my stead. I only ask that you let her live.”
If she did not heed him. If she rejected this petition, he did not think he could bear it.
“I beg of you, hear my plea. A life for a life. My future for hers”
The silence that followed was agonizing. It pressed upon him, as if threatening to suffocate. Perhaps only moments passed, but it felt like bells, moons, eons.
Let this be enough. Let his plea be heard. And even if it wasn't, he would spend an eternity in this strange purgatory, bending Hydaelyn's ear until she finally hearkened unto him.
But then, gods be praised, she spoke.
“Child of Light, if this is truly thy wish, then it shall be granted.”
His heart nearly leapt from his throat at the words. Had she truly-?
“Thy spirits shall be bonded. Thy strength and gifts shall be hers. Thy light will be lent to her radiance. I have heard thy plea and shall grant unto thee this succor. Here thou mayest remain, forever bonded to her fate, a guiding hand as she walks her path. So shall be this boon I give you.”
The relief he felt was so poignant he could weep. She could be saved, she would be saved.
“Thank you”, he breathed, and this time he was weeping. “Thank you”
The aether began to shimmer around them once more. Looking down, he could see the light surrounding Thalia grow brighter, and feel her grow more solid and heavy in his arms. Subsequently, his awareness of his own body became more and more muted. His skin tingled with the sensation, as if he were the gossamer strands of a spider web, slowly being pulled apart.
It would have been alarming, but he couldn't bring himself to care. Thalia would live. That was all that mattered.
He cradled her close, though she was far too big for it, no longer the little girl that would eagerly cling to his leg at times.
“Give my love to your mother”, he murmured against the now warm skin of her forehead. “Give my love to our family…..and forgive me. I pray one day you'll understand, little cub”. He did not know if she could hear him, or if she was even aware of what was happening, but a part of him hoped she did.
And as he knelt with her in his arms, his light fading as hers strengthened, Hydaelyn’s voice rang out once more:
“By my power. By thy will. By our hand. Let it be finished.”

Hi! Can I ask an ikevamp request where the boys find MC's sketchbook and is filled with drawings and doodles of them? If all of the suitors is to much, then just do for Jean, Will, Theo, Mozart, Leo and Comte. Have a nice day! ^^
Bruh this is a genius idea @jeanstan . First of all thanks so much for this request and second of all of coarse I will do all the suitors. Why? Because I’m awesome. No I’m kidding, I’m literally the most clumsy, airheaded person on this planet. Think brain fried Kaminari energy. Also I’m really sorry this took this long. Anywhooo let’s get into it shall we. Tags: @nad-zeta
Ilevamp suitors finding mc’s sketchbook
Comte
you where just chilling in his armchair and doodling him when sleep over took you and fell asleep
being the gentleman he is he picked you up and set you down on his bed tucking you in nicely
then he noticed your sketchbook on the armchair
not even mr. Perfect-guy can resist tacking a little peek at it
so he just looked at the page that was already open
an there he saw a pretty good drawing of him
Comte to his brain: take a peek you said. it will be fine you said. why are you looking through it. you said.
yup he ended up going through your entire sketchbook
he then wrote a little thank you next to your most recent drawing and set it next to you.
when you saw his little note you blushed, but at least he liked it
Leonardo da sleepy
you where both just sitting in the library
you got a bit hungry so you left to get a snack but you accidentally left your notebook there
you know this guy has a thirst for knowledge and that includes figuring out what’s in your notebook
he will pick it up and flip it open expecting to see notes or random drawings
nope nope he sees a bunch of drawings of him with notes like * damn that smile owns my heart* or * UUUUUUH why is he so annoyingly adorable*
This guy has the biggest smirk plastered on his face. when you come back into the room
“ I didn’t know I was annoyingly adorable Cara mia”
cue you turning tomato red
Napoleon
you where sparring ( or where watching the boys spar whatever fits)
after a few rounds you decided to get a drink and offered to bring drinks for the boys too
Jean excused himself and went to the bathroom and Leon was left alone
now your sketchbook was already just on the ground next to your hoodie
he didn’t touch it ‘cause he’s nice, but now..
he decided to take a peek
and he saw a sketch of him sparring
he flipped through it and found more pictures
him sleeping, him laughing, him teaching the kids the best thing that would describe him in this moment that meme: mha heart mah soul
and you catch him with the notebook in his hands
he just walks up to you and hugs you
Isaac
little bean
he stumbles across it by accident, literally stumbles
you dropped it and he tripped on it
he’s like the f is this?
he picks it up and opens it
oh my Lord
he’s as red as an apple ( pun intended😏)
there are a bunch of doodles of him some where he’s holding Harry, some where it’s only him looking through his telescope or just off into the distance
you: Hey Isaac have you seen my...
Isaac: no I haven’t seen the notebook, idk about a notebook, what is a notebook even
poor boy
you just hug him and reassure him you’re not mad, when he mumbles an apology
Jean
precious bean yes Isaac, Jean and Vincent are all beans. COME @ ME
so you carried that notebook around everywhere you went and while he is not as attentive as Arthur he still noticed
so when you left your notebook in his bedroom after bringing him breakfast he couldnt resist the urge to take a peek
when he sees a bunch of drawing of him he’s..torn
on one hand he’s moved and is actually happy that you drew him on the other he doesn’t understand why you would want to draw someone as impure as him akgkgakgskgfau LOVE HIM PLS
when you come back into the room you panic a little ‘cause he’s staring at it with a blank expression
but then he apologizes and your panic melt away
he ask you why you drew him and you if play the “because I love you” card he will be shocked and happy and confused and surprised...( the list is so long A decided it would be best to just ad an etc. over here)
you hug him and reassure him he is important and you love him
Arthur
ok so he knew that the sketchbook was important to you right of the bat
being the annoying sweet person he is he decides to pester you more then ever
“ Whatcha got there Luv?” “It’s my notebook” “Can I see what’s inside” *flashes a severely annoyed look* “Arthur this is the 7th time today and i have the same answer. No.” “ Oh come on doll it’s just a peak” “It is closed for a REASON!”
Yeah you might have snapped at him a little but his ho guy ain’t giving up
so of coarse when you leave your notebook in his room he will act like he didn’t notice until you leave and then he will scramble out of his chair and nab the notebook
he opens it expecting a diary or just a bunch of notes only to come face to face with a bunch of pictures of him
he’ll raise an eyebrow and keep looking until he finds a very beautiful and realistic drawing of him sleeping with Vic and he looses his shit
he’ll run to you and pull you back into the room to cuddle and tell you how much he loves you no he’s definitely not crying
you don’t get what’s happening until he tells you he saw your drawing and you will turn slightly pink but honestly you just can’t be mad
Mozart
ok so we all know that when he finds this notebook he’ll be stone-faced
you ain’t getting no type of emotion out of this tsuntsun
that is until he’s in public
once he’s in his room oh boy
at first it’s just a hint of a smile, but it gets bigger and bigger until he’s smiling like a dork as he inspects your drawings
he’ll never admit it but the fact that you drew him really warmed his icy heart
he even finds one where he’s by a Christmas tree smiling and a little note next to it saying “I’ll make him smile like this one day”
he closes the book and puts on his stone face again and leaves his room
in the corridor he runs into you
“ Hey, Wolf?” “What do you want.” “Isn’t that my notebook?” “Yes it is.” “So why do you have it?” “....Inspiration.”
yup now he has that notebook with him on the piano and only let’s you get it back if you want to doddle in it some more
Theo
you where cooking in the kitchen, whipping up some pancakes for the brothers
Theo came in to complain that there wasn’t enough syrup on his pancake and you flashed him a death glare and told him to get some from the cupboard
as he grumbles to himself h notices your sketchbook on the counter
and he proceeds to open it and go through it
he sees a bunch of pretty decent drawings of him and he’s surprised
he’ll act all tough but he’s really happy
“ Oi, Hondjie! What is this?” he shows you your most recent sketch. The one where he’s walking King with a faint smile on his lips.
you instantly go bright red
“ Put that down! You where not supposed to see that! There not good just put it down”
he’ll sigh and pull you into a hug
“ I like it”
Vincent
smol bean
you left it in his room and he just wanted to take a peek
and he opened it up and saw a punch of sketches of him
they even had notes like “uhh stop moving you hand” or “how can someone be this pure”
he’s moved
will go and find you and apologize for looking in your notebook and will tell you how cute your drawings are
all in all he’s a sweet little angel but like who expected anything else
Dazai
funny how he can’t remember your name but can remember exactly were you hide the sketchbook when you can’t take it with you
yup this guy just went and took it
he has no shame
he flicked trough it and smiled to himself
the drawings where adorable and funny and he loved it
you strait up walk in on him with the sketchbook and he just smiled at you
you turn pink trying to explain why you drew them
buuuut he just twirls you around and pules you into his lap smiling and you go over the drawing together recalling happy memories
Sebastian
did somebody say Sebastian appreciation hours
You can’t really hide anything from Sebas can you
you went out to get groceries and he was cleaning up around the mansion
you had left your notebook tucked behind one of the library shelves and as he was dusting he found it
he opened it not knowing it was your notebook
he realized soon enough though
he just starred at the pages full of drawings of him
you waked in and he just calmly put the notebook down
he asks why you drew him and you turn pink
as you try to formulate a coherent response he sighs and makes his way to you
he gently flicks your forehead and smiles
“I never said I didn’t like them”
Will
ok so lets talk about our dear yandere boy Will
you hang out a lot at his villa
usually you are accompanied by Vincent
but today he remembered he had a painting to finish and left
you offered to walk him to the gate and he gladly accepted
however you forgot your sketchbook on the dining table
William instantly noticed this and couldn’t help but take a peek
he’s shooketh
the drawing are so cute he really likes them
you come in and he smiles at you
your kind of embarrassed because 1 you didn’t want him to see that and 2 he asked you if you could draw in front of him
“ The way thou hand moves across this paper mesmerizes me”
you turn bright red but your happy he likes it

At a certain point, wedged between ‘what-ifs’ of his own devising, he’d stopped trying to keep track of those regrettable moments: now and then, pushing and pulling, coming and going, beginning and end. Summary: Yoongi, a cat hybrid, has been hurt time and time again by a world that would have him believe he’s worthless. One day he finds himself in your protective care, and gets a new family to boot. But is it really that easy to escape the past and embrace a new beginning?
Author’s Note: In this fic the reader’s name is Yeoji
Another Author’s Note: Thank you so much to everyone who has read this fic! It took a long time for me to finish and edit, but I’m so glad I finally got the idea out of my head and into the world. I’ve been kicking around ideas for a little epilogue (something short and fluffy) if anyone would be interested in that. I also have plans for future fics with the other boys in this same AU. :)
As soon as you recognized the man in the video, you called the police. Kwon Hyunjoong’s name wasn’t unfamiliar to the city police. They’d had multiple run-ins with him investigating hybrid crimes. But he was always careful enough to worm his way out of the charges. The lax hybrid rights laws didn’t help the situation. Even with all the progress and new policies implemented in recent years there was often next to nothing that could be done to stop the atrocities. Fortunately, since Yoongi was registered as yours, the police could pursue it as a theft and potentially damage to personal property. Depending on the degree of harm, it could be brought to trial as an animal abuse case. You didn’t like it, but it was the only way they could help you.
The problem was that Hyunjoong had multiple establishments at different locations, so the police weren’t sure where to start looking. Luckily the head of the hybrid crimes division, Detective Moon Bora, was more than happy to take it as an opportunity for a police raid on several of his known locations. Hopefully that would give them a chance to gather evidence and shut at least part of his operation down. Still, you needed to find the place he’d taken Yoongi too. You remembered the business card the snake of a man had given you when he came into the cafe. You quickly dialed Jin, who was still at your apartment with the rest of the guys.
“Jin, can you look for something in my desk? It’s a business card, mostly purple with some kind of logo on it. Should say the name Kwon Hyunjoong on it,” you said, not bothering with a hello.
“On it,” Jin said. You heard his footsteps and then the shuffling as he rifled through your desk drawers. “Got it! The Eclipse Club. *** W. **th Street. Is that where he is?”
“Maybe,” you responded, then hung up. You quickly called the police back and told them what was on the card. They assured you’d they’d send units there immediately, but you couldn’t bring yourself to just wait. So you snagged Namjoon’s keys out of his pocket and ran back to the car. By the time he, Jimin, and Jungkook caught up you were already pulling out of the parking lot. Namjoon banged on the window and tugged at the door handle but the doors had locked automatically when you put it in drive and there was no way you were stopping the car. You didn’t even glance in the rearview as you drove away, not seeing your little brother run his hands through his hair in frustration, Jungkook frantically dialing for a cab, and Jimin watching with wide, frightened eyes.
You punched the address into your phone’s GPS at the next light. To say you were speeding would be an understatement of comical proportions, but none of the cops that zipped past you with their sirens blaring, seemed to care. It both comforted and terrified you to see the pure volume of police heading to the same destination as you. You pulled up in front of the club to find several police cars already stopped near the entrance. The officers were trying to set up a perimeter so no potential witnesses or perpetrators could slip away. They weren’t being nearly as cautious about letting people in, so you managed to shoulder your way through the writhing crowd of sweaty and inebriated club-goers.
Once inside you suddenly felt overwhelmed. You had no idea where to start looking. With no better ideas, you started elbowing people aside and moving through the building, screaming Yoongi’s name. A young girl—she couldn’t have been more than nineteen—with round black ears nestled in her curly white hair bumped into you. One of her eyes was blacked and a split ran through her pretty doll-like lip. She hurried to apologize, straightening her microscopic tulle skirt as she bowed. You quickly grabbed her arm drawing her eyes back up to meet yours.
“Yoongi!” you shouted at her. She frowned, understandably confused. “I’m looking for a guy called Yoongi,” you said again, leaning closer in hopes she could hear you better over the deafening sound of the crowd and the music still blaring through the speakers.
“Yoongi?” she said, clearly not recognizing the name. Your heart sank as you realized with horror that Kwon Hyunjoong might not have brought Yoongi here. “Yeah. Smallish guy, soft cheeks, honey-blond hair, little black cat hears and tail.” You described, hoping to jog her memory.
“Suga?” she said, coming to a realization. “They just brought him back. The master took him to the cage.” She nodded to a hallway in the back where several police officers were already shoving their way though the crowd. “He looked angry,” she added with a frown, ears twitching nervously.
“Thank you,” you said, giving her arm a squeeze as you started pushing through the crowd again. You reached the hallway relatively easily but your progress slowed when you came upon a crowd of officers gathered around a doorway, trying to usher two burly men in handcuffs through the throngs of inebriated people. You continued pushing your way through, managing to escape their notice for the most part even as you elbowed a few cops in the ribs. When you got close enough to the doorway you saw a set of metal stairs leading down, and heard a familiar voice echoing up the passage. Even in the form of pained wails and animal panic, you knew that voice.
“Yoongi!” you screeched, lurching past the last two people between you and the door. You practically fell down the stairs in your haste, the cops behind you shouting at you to stop. The officer at the door downstairs was shocked still for a moment by the appearance of your small, frantic frame. He came back to himself as you pushed past him, and he caught your arm to prevent you from entering. The wild swing of your arm caught you both off guard as you wrenched your arm free, stumbling forward onto your hands and knees and catching the officer in the jaw with a backhand in the process.
“Hey, stop right there!” the man shouted, but you were already moving toward the pale figure trying to make himself disappear into the corner. Yoongi hunkered there, pale and shaking in just a pair of boxers. Blood splattered the fabric where it dripped from lashes in his back and thighs. Two police officers, a man and a woman, stood a few feet away trying to get closer to help.
“What do we do?” the man asked.
“I don’t know. We might have to tranquilize him if he won’t let us get close.”
“S***, I hate to do it though. He’s already pretty messed up.” The male officer eyed the tranq gun in his hand unhappily.
“He needs medical attention thou-” the woman started. You’d heard more than enough.
“Yoongi!” you cried again, sprinting across the room to him, the officer from the door right on your heels.
“Miss, stop! It’s dangerous.”
You got within a few feet of Yoongi, but pulled up short when he hissed, actually hissed at you. He tried to shuffle further away. That was when you noticed one of his legs stretched out, held by a chain bolted to the center of the room. Everytime he tried to escape further the chain bit into his flesh, the skin already raw and bleeding there.
“Yoon? Sweetheart, it’s me. It’s Yeoji-noona. Yoongi, baby, please.”
His head lifted just the tiniest bit as he looked at you. “Noona?” he said weakly. His voice was raw and wobbly, barely audible, but that was all you needed to hear. You were at his side in a heartbeat. He finally moved forward a bit, no longer pulling against the chain and you heard him draw a breath through his teeth at the sting as the metal shifted against the wound on his ankle. He pressed himself to you, burying his face in your chest. You did your best to hold him without touching the raw skin of his back.
You pulled away for a moment and he sobbed, panicked, so you hurried to peel off your sweater and pull it over his body. He didn’t even put his arms through the sleeves, more concerned with getting as close to you as possible. Your scent enveloping him made him feel so safe despite the intense pain he was in, and that only made him sob harder. You knew the movement from crying so hard must hurt considering how bad his injuries were, so you patted his hair soothingly, wrapping an arm over his waist and hip—the least damaged section of skin you could find—to hold him closer. It took a moment to realize that it wasn’t just his cries filling the room, you were crying with him.
The cops gave up on pulling you away from him, so you sat like that for several minutes. The voices in the room seemed very far away, not that you could hear very well anyway over your own breathing and pounding heartbeat. Someone touched your shoulder, lightly trying to pull you away. You shook them off with a terrified cry that didn’t even seem human. It was a primal wail of heartbreak and terror at even the hint of separating you from Yoongi.
“Noona.” A warm voice broke through your emotional haze. “Noona, hyung, it’s Hoseok. It’s okay. We’ve got you.”
You lifted your face from where it was buried in Yoongi’s hair, and found Hoseok standing there, emergency response bag in hand.
“Hobi,” you said, voice barely holding. “Help him.” Despite your words, you didn’t let Yoongi go, only turning with him in your arms so Hoseok could get a look at his back. He packed some gauze onto the wounds and then waved over two men with a stretcher.
“We’ve gotta get him to a hospital. The staff at my hospital is fantastic, they’ll look after you.” You bristled as the two paramedics settled Yoongi on his stomach on the stretcher, never letting go of his hand.
“You aren’t coming with us?” you asked.
“Yoongi-hyung isn’t the only person here who needs medical attention. Some of them are going straight to the shelter. I need to stay and help out.”
“Take us to the shelter too,” you decided. “Someone else can go to the hospital. I only trust you and Jin’s staff.”
“Noona…”
“Hoseok,” Yoongi, mumbled into the cushion of the stretcher. He winced as he spoke, not continuing, but you both took it as him weighing in on the argument. Hoseok sighed and turned to the paramedics.
“Take them to Remedy shelter. Taehyung will be waiting for you at the emergency entrance.” Hoseok placed a comforting kiss on top of your head and hurried off to help elsewhere.
The ambulance ride was silent and tense as you hovered over the paramedics’ every move. You shot daggers at them when Yoongi so much as winced. You knew it wasn’t their fault, but your protective instincts were in overdrive, especially after having failed him so recently.
Taehyung was indeed waiting at the emergency entrance for you. Other ambulances were also unloading patients. Apparently Detective Moon had been serious about the extent of the raids taking place that night. Tae was frantically checking patients in and dealing with drivers and medical staff.
“Yoongi-hyung!” he cried, abandoning the conversation he’d been having as soon as the ambulance doors opened. He appeared around the door, eyes puffy and red, obvious tear tracks staining his cheeks. His voice hiccuped as he spoke and it made more tears fall from your eyes. To be honest they had never really stopped. Yoongi didn’t answer, passed out from a combination of pain, pain-killers, and exhaustion. Tae looked at you anxiously, the question clear in his eyes.
“He’s- He’ll be okay. I think he’ll be okay,” was all you managed.
A doctor met you at the door. He was young, handsome, and remarkably calm. “Dr. Ko Shinwon,” he introduced himself as the paramedics wheeled Yoongi to a trauma bay and transferred him to a hospital bed. They briefed Dr. Ko on Yoongi’s condition before returning to the ambulance. A nurse stepped in to assist him as Dr. Ko started working.
“Miss, I’m going to have to ask you to wait outside,” another nurse asked. She placed a gentle hand on your arm to guide you away.
“No! No, I can’t leave him.” You stepped closer to Yoongi’s side.
“Miss, I really have to insist.”
Yoongi groaned, making Dr. Ko and the nurses glance at him. He slipped his hand off the edge of the bed and felt for your fingers, threading them together and holding on tightly. “Noona, please,” he whimpered.
“It’s fine, Nurse Jung. Please just try to keep out of the way, miss.” He gave you a serious, appraising look before going about his tasks. You crouched next to Yoongi, gently petting his hair and whispering sweet nonsense, shushing and cooing every time he winced at pain that managed to cut through the numbing. The stitches were the worst part, and it was all you could do to avert your eyes and not pass out. Once the wounds were dressed Dr. Ko excused himself to see his next patient and the nurses checked monitors and IVs. They told you to call if anything changed, then slipped out and pulled the curtain shut.
A few moments later Yoongi shuddered and whimpered a little. “Cold,” he said.
You straightened and looked around, spotting a blanket folded in the cupboard next to the bed. You pulled it out with the hand Yoongi wasn’t clinging to and draped it over him. Then you paused, considering. Yoongi shivered again and you quickly made up your mind, slipping under the blanket next to him. Your body was only half way on the bed, wanting to leave more than enough room for him, but you didn’t care. He immediately shifted, wincing a little at the movement, and settled with his head on your chest, side pressed tightly to yours. You ran your hands through his hair.
You sat quietly for a while, listening as his breathing evened out and his muscles relaxed. The familiar warmth reminded you of the night before, and the thought brought tears to your eyes again. How could you have been so blind to Yoongi’s feelings? You hurt him so badly, and you almost lost him because of it. You held back from crying harder again, not wanting to disturb Yoongi, but your guilt over the whole situation ate at you.
“I’m so sorry,” you whispered, looking lovingly at the boy before you.
“‘m sorry, noona.”
You startled at the sound of his voice, surprised he was listening. “Don’t be sorry, baby. You have nothing to be sorry for.”
“Made you uncomfortable. Shouldn’t have done that. Made you worry. ‘s bad. Sorry.”
“No. You didn’t do anything wrong. You aren’t bad. My sweet honey boy, you are so perfect. I love you,” you said. Your voice was thick with emotion but you said the words clearly, with certainty.
Yoongi chuckled, flinching as he did so. You could feel the movement against your chest. “Not the same. ’s okay. Doesn’t have to be the same. Just let me love you ‘n I’m okay.”
You craned your neck to look at him. “What if it is the same? Yoongi, it is the same. I love you so much, I can’t believe you haven’t seen through me yet.” He tilted his head up to face you, uncertainty creasing his brow. You smiled softly and ran your thumb over his face to smooth out the wrinkle. “I love you, Yoongi.” You hesitated for a moment, then leaned down and pressed a firm but gentle kiss to his lips. You’d imagined doing this an embarrassing number of times, but somehow, they were even softer than you expected. The kiss only lasted a second before you pulled away, examining his face for a reaction. He didn’t disappoint, gracing you with the gummy smile that could single-handedly keep your heart beating. His eyelids were heavy, but he clearly had things to say.
“Love you,” he mumbled. His next words were more or less unintelligible.
“Shh,” you stopped him, running your fingers through his hair and scratching gently at his ears. “Talk tomorrow.”
He grumbled a protest, but didn’t try to say anything more. Instead he leaned his face up toward you expectantly. You chuckled and gave him three quick pecks, one on his forehead, one on his button nose, and one on his pouty lips. He smiled into that last kiss, then nuzzled into your neck where your scent was strongest. The combination of your perfume and your natural fragrance lulled him into unconsciousness within minutes, one of his hands finding the soft flesh of your hip to knead at. You smiled, wiped the tears from your cheeks with your free hand, and closed your eyes.
━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━◦○◦━
Yoongi was in the hospital for two weeks. The beating had done some internal damage and the doctors were concerned about infection in the lacerations on his back. The boys helped out, taking care of things at the cafe so you could spend every possible moment by Yoongi’s bedside.
The relief you felt when they gave him the okay to go home was indescribable. It felt like you finally had permission to get back to normal. But of course, things weren’t entirely back to normal. Sometimes it felt like all the progress Yoongi made when he came to live with you had evaporated. He was jumpy and timid again, shying away from the boys when they came around. He even flinched away from you sometimes when you moved too fast.
You realized quickly that you couldn’t have him working with the public in the cafe again. Not yet. So Jimin and Jungkook picked up extra shifts whenever they could. You thanked them at least once every time you saw them, but they just brushed you off. You had to fight tooth and nail for them to take the pay for their extra hours. Every time you had to leave Yoongi and look after the business it broke your heart. He always watched you walk out the door as if you might not come back to him.
One particularly warm spring afternoon Jimin burst into the cafe, running late and still wearing his clothes from dance practice.
“Sorry I’m late, noona! Let me go get changed,” he panted as he slipped behind the counter.
“No worries. You can use my room to change in.” You nodded back toward the apartment and he ran off to get cleaned up for work. When he reemerged barely ten minutes later he managed to look more put together than you did after a half hour of effort. His bubble-gum pink hair nicely coiffed instead of the disheveled state it was in when he arrived.
“How do you always look so nice?” you marveled. You reached up and scratched his ear, careful not to disturb his neatly styled hair. He purred happily at the compliment. You hoped someday Yoongi might purr as freely as Jimin did.
“Thanks!” Jimin smiled, eyes turning to little crescent lines as he did. “I can take it from here. You should get back to Yoongi-hyung.” He paused for a moment, like he wanted to say something else. “Noona, aren’t you guys…?” He let the words hang in the air, but you knew what he was asking.
The truth was, after your confession that night in the hospital, you hadn’t really talked about your relationship. With everything that happened, it just never seemed like the right time. You spent much of the time since then wrapped in Yoongi’s arms, or him in yours, even placing the occasional peck on his cheek. But it was like both of you feared going any further. You saw the hesitation in his eyes everytime he stood just a little too close to you, or looked into your eyes a little too long. He couldn’t seem to find the courage to say or do anything, and you didn’t want to push him too far. He would make a move when he was ready, right?
You blinked, realizing Jimin had been waiting for you to speak while you stared into space. “I- I don’t know, Jimin. We were. At least I thought we were… something. I told him I loved him, in the hospital.” Jimin’s eyes widened, a hint of a smile on his lips. You leaned on the counter and let out a sigh before continuing. “He seemed happy. He even said it back. But we haven’t talked about it since then. He was so high on adrenaline and painkillers then, I’m not even sure he knew what he was saying.”
Jimin stopped you before you could make any more excuses. “He knew. Noona, he’s loved you for so much longer than you realize. But you know better than anyone else how scared he must be. If you rejected him, he might never recover, so he can’t do anything at all. I’m sure he feels like you’re too good for him. He needs you to assure him that you love him, and he deserves that.” You looked at Jimin, amazed at the wisdom he’d just dropped out of nowhere. He smiled, clearly pleased with the advice he’d given and your reaction. “I sounded pretty cool just now, huh?”
You grinned pulling him into a vicious bear hug. “Yes my sweet Chim Chim, you were super cool just now. Thank you.” You pulled back and he examined your face, clearly reading the nervousness there and in your scent. “I need to go talk to Yoongi.”
You took a steadying breath and he patted your shoulder. “Fighting!” he cheered as he waved you off.
Back in the apartment dinner was already finished. Yoongi was waiting at the table scrolling on his phone.
“I’m sorry I’m late Yoongs! Let me go change real quick.” You quickly peeled off your work clothes and put on shorts and a tank top, knowing the apartment was already warm, and it would be warmer when Yoongi inevitably wanted snuggles later. You returned to the table and took a chair across from him.
“Wow, this looks great!” You looked over the table, genuinely impressed. Yoongi had been cooking a lot lately. He found it was a relaxing way to pass his time, and he loved to see you enjoy what he prepared. You’d purchased several new kitchen tools and appliances for him, and he used them all. “Did you make this pasta yourself?” you asked, incredulous as he served you a generous slice of lasagna. Glancing at the kitchen counter you found the pasta press out, still dusted with flour. He nodded bashfully in response.
“This is my first attempt, so don’t expect too much. I’m just hoping it’s edible.” You both laughed and dug into the food. It was great. All of Yoongi’s first attempts seemed to end up delicious, unlike your kitchen misadventures.
After dinner you settled onto the couch together. He was sprawled half on top of you, laying between the back of the couch and your body, head on your shoulder. He was focused on the TV—he’d been watching obsessed with old Iron Chef episodes of late—but you were focused on him, hands gently stroking his hair and ears. A satisfied smile spread on your face when the now-familiar rumble started from his chest. You decided that now, when he was happy and relaxed, was as good a time as any to talk about everything.
“Yoon?” you called softly, brushing his hair off his forehead.
“Hm?” He looked up at you questioningly.
“Can we talk about something?” You tried to phrase it in a non-threatening way and keep your tone light, but his brow still furrowed as he grabbed the remote to pause his show.
“What do you want to talk about?” He propped himself up on one elbow and avoided your eyes.
“It’s nothing bad. At least I really hope not,” you said with a nervous laugh that did little to ease Yoongi’s anxiety. “Do you remember that first night in the hospital?”
Yoongi’s eyes widened, then looked away again. Clearly he remembered something. “Some of it. It’s a little blurry in spots. What about it?”
“We… We talked about some things. Do you remember that?” You looked at him expectantly, but he stayed quiet. “I told you I love you,” you said quietly.
He looked at you sharply. “That was real?” he asked, almost more to himself than to you.
“What?”
“I thought I dreamed that. I was on so much pain medication that I figured I was hallucinating or something. You- You actually said that?” he asked, incredulous.
“Yes. And I meant it. I still mean it. I’d like to be more than just your friend, if that’s something you want.” You put a hand on his cheek so he’d hold your gaze, stroking it gently with your thumb. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” Yoongi said without hesitation. His eyes were glassy and he studied your face for a moment. Half of him expected this to be a cruel prank, but you didn’t laugh. You just smiled softly, admiring the soft features of his face. You reached down to clasp your other hand with his.
“Does that mean you’ll be my boyfriend?” you asked, still somehow nervous now that everything was out in the open.
He didn’t answer with words. Instead, he kissed you. After a second he leaned back and looked at you to gage your reaction. You smiled and leaned up, bumping his nose with yours. He grinned and kissed you again. His lips moved against yours, gentle but you could feel the emotion in every move. You ran your fingers through his soft blond hair, tugging on it a little and he nipped teasingly at your lip. You let out a surprised gasp and he took the opportunity to deepen the kiss. You enthusiastically followed his lead, wrapping your leg over his hip to pull his body closer to yours. Your hand pulled free from his to rest on his waist. He shuddered as you trailed your fingers down his side. The hand not supporting his weight grabbed your hip. Your fingers found the edge of his t-shirt and slid under it, finding the warm skin of his back.
At the feeling of your fingers on his bare skin he tensed, breaking the kiss. You looked at him confused, but immediately stopped touching him, removing your leg and releasing your gentle grip on his hair. He sat up, his body shaking a little.
“What’s wrong, sweetheart? Are you okay?” you asked, growing concerned at his obvious distress.
“Yeah. Yeah, I just.” He squeezed his eyes shut and slowed his breathing. You waited, resting your hand palm up on your lap so he could take it if he wanted to. He did. He twined your fingers together and took a longer, slower breath before he spoke. “I’ve never had someone I actually like, y’know, touch me, or kiss me. It felt nice, but when you touched my skin, my scars…” Your fingers tightened on his hand, heart aching as you realized what he was getting at. “I just started to remember all the bad times, the bad people, the things they did, the things they made me do.”
“We can go as slow as you need. Whatever you’re comfortable with, that’s enough for me.”
He huffed, frustrated tears welling in his eyes. “I just- I want this. I love you and I trust you. I hate that I’m letting them take this from me; letting them beat me.”
“Hey.” You wiped a tear from his cheek and kissed his forehead. “They are not beating you. You’re here, with me. You are safe and healthy. You’re still able to love someone, and you are loved. You have a family. Despite everything you’ve been through, you survived. Sure, you have scars, but you’re working hard to heal. I am so proud of you, Yoongi. You deserve a happy ending, and you’ll get one. We both will.”
“You think?”
“I know. I promise, we’ll get through this.”
He nodded and lay back down, resting his head on your chest so he could listen to your heartbeat. You resumed the forgotten episode of Iron Chef and went back to playing with his hair. You were just dozing off, his purr lulling you to sleep, when Yoongi spoke again.
“Noona?”
“Mhm?”
“I really love you.”
You smiled, already half in a dream. “I love you too, honey boy.” You kissed his head and fell asleep with your face tucked in his hair.

Sick day (Sora Pov)
While Kaku was being swamped with work, Sora, Dare, and Mugen were lazing around their shared dorm room. "Ugh I'm so bored" groaned Mugen, leading Dare to look up "Do you want me to play with you?" the words that slipped out of the skinny boy's mouth, got him a nasty glare from the chubby boy. "Gross! 1. I'm not a child, 2. don't say it like that, ugh this is why I'm getting out of here, neither of you are invited!" Mugen exclaimed and quickly ran out the dorm house. Dare looked down confused on what he said wrong, "did I come onto him at a bad time?". the awkward silence was cut short when Dare got up to leave, Sora was then left alone with his thoughts. Maybe he could go bother Mugen or leave to play games with Hanuman. before Sora knew it he was already In Wasure's room watching him sleep, none of them really are sure how they fit into this whole app and guild fighting but they somehow know they need to fight, but he can't shake the feeling from what Draw said to them. sometime ago Sora had Mugen on his back and helping Kaku stand, they are very injured from the fight, but the battle wasn't over. Wasure was not standing far from them, Dare was. . .not breathing anymore, their lucky this fight is in a battle zone. Draw was standing there with a smile looking pleased with the damage he caused, even thou he was missing a arm, "man I can see you why the world reps and their stupid guilds want you, but I thought they could only get one of you, hm maybe your a set?, that would explain why all three guilds were in a tizzy and going haywire trying to figure why their precious trophy is suddenly in 5 pieces." after finishing Draw lunged forward clashing his brush with Wasure's boundless tail. The present the others, even Sora for sometime, brushed off what Draw said as a way to make them falter while fighting him, of course Dare didn't hear any of that so they all pretty much forgot about it. Except Sora they words would sometimes play in repeat in his mind for several hours at a time, "when you said we shouldn't put much stock into what Draw said, was it for our sake, Mugen, Dare and me." when Sora really thought about it, after that fight while Mugen and Dare were talking he saw Wasure and Kaku go off alone into his room most likely to discus what Draw said, It most likely means it bothered Wasure more then he let on. Wasure and Kaku kept a lot of things hidden from the him and the others, maybe they do it to spare them the headache, or their planning something or they don't trust them with these secrets. but why does he tell Kaku and not Sora, the one who barely talks as is, "why a loud mouth who has zero self control with herself, so why not me, do you not trust me?, why can't you just be honest with me and the others like you are with her?, is it something I-We did to make you not trust us with whatever, is what Draw said still bothering you?" the string of questions were numerous but Sora stopped himself before he said something to wake the sick boy up from his slumber, taking his time to creep out of the room, Sora closed the door and went to his room to rest and probably never talk about this again.

↱ PLAYLIST
↱ SERIES MASTERLIST
------------------------------------------------✈
scene one; no song
"Thousands of years ago, our ancestors looked up at the night sky and saw a field of lights."
The aged man paced around the room, hands folded behind his back and hair graying by the roots. His side facing the blackboard on the wall, he continued;
"None of them really knew what they were," he stopped and looked at the vast sea of students perched atop of chairs in the big room. "But, they made a fascinating observation."
You sat listening to your professor, your chin perched on your open palm, and eyes focused on the notebook that sat idly on your connected desks.
"They noticed that the patterns were predictable and had clear effects." The man said with some form of self-acknowledged eureka, his left hand coming up to the height of his face, index finger pointing up at the heavily-lit ceiling. "The seasons, the tides, the harvests."
"Incredible, isn't it?" he resumed.
The man was about to continue on his tangent. But that was until a hand shot up in the air, followed by a voice.
"Uhm, professor?" the boy who raised his hand asked. "Aren't we supposed to be learning about chemistry?"
Your professor looked at him, who now appeared to be slightly frightened by the blank but disrupted gaze of his teacher.
“Pfft—”
You turned around to see your friend Kai, her head resting upon her folded arms. Was she seriously trying to sleep through the lesson again?
“The one opportunity we got to sleep,” she sighed. “You just had to ruin it, brainy.”
“Is that seriously what you call a sufficient insult?” you asked as you fully tilted your head towards her direction.
“Wasn’t saying it to insult him.” She said casually as she massaged her head with the hand closest to her, face still partially buried within her entangled arms. “Wasn’t saying it to compliment him either though.”
You scoffed.
“You’re unbelievable,” and at that, the darker-skinned girl turned to you with horror in her eyes.
“Oh no,” she said petrified.
“What?”
“You’re being a Karen again.”
You looked at her dumbfounded, sighing.
“I am not being a Karen,” you started. “I’m just saying—”
It was already too late, however, as Kai had both her hands covering her ears, blocking out your protests as well as all her other life issues.
You sighed once more and turned your attention back to your professor, your notebook still open on your desk.
“Your semester is practically over,” said your professor, standing idly in front of all the students, his left hand reaching up to habitually play with the fabric of his suit tie.
“So, let me have some me-time every once in a while," he continued.
‘You never let us have any me-time—’ is what you could feel the hoard of tired students internally screaming around you.
The aged man cleared his throat and set along to once again resume his lengthy ramble.
“Where was I?” he asked himself, his feet already departing from his standstill position in the middle of the room as he started walking about once more.
“Ah yes, so it seemed logical that these lights shaped everything else in our lives. But with the scientific method disproving all these theories, why do people still look for meaning in the stars?”
A hand shot up in the air once again, only to be shot back down by a quick hand gesture from the professor.
“Calm down now, I’m not done yet,” he said.
“Many prolific historical figures of our kind, such as the Iikes of William Shakespeare, have used the concept of astrology as a metaphorical expression, more than an actual study. Whether or not he truly believed in it, he still used the idea of astrology to create some of his most well-known epigrams to date,” he continued.
“With lines such as; ‘These late eclipses in the sun and moon portend no good to us.’ from King Lear, ‘A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life.’ from Romeo and Juliet— I’m sure a lot of you are familiar with that one." He faced the students once more. "And my utmost favorite, ‘The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars—’”
“But in ourselves, that we are underlings.”
“—From Julius Caesar,” the professor smiled. “Well done, Miss L/N.”
Shock settled into your form, having realized that you had said that much louder than you had anticipated. Now with the burning stares of your classmates and uncontrolled laughter coming from a seatmate you used to call your best friend, you let out an exasperated sigh, head falling onto your desk and arms protecting you from the unfiltered judgment of the outside world.
You sighed for what seemed like the thousandth time that day before finally coming out of hiding, your chin once again finding shelter in your welcoming palm. You stared down at your open notebook, observing each line and angle. Stared at the drawings of orbits clashing together with the unwelcome intrusion of jotted scientific equations. A picture of the sun as each planet aligned themselves accordingly within their rotation, along with the lengthy compound formula of 4 Bromo, 3-4 Dichloro, Ethyl Hexanoate, written briskly, and uncared for.
But despite your apparent unhappiness and deep-rooted sorrow, you lifted your head forward and listened to the lesson in front of you.
"You seriously need to loosen up," said Kai, her head faced towards you. "When was the last time you danced to music alone in your bedroom?"
You thought about it for a second.
She sighed.
"You're so sad," she sighed once more and patted your head. "Poor baby."
She brought her hand down from the crown of your head, arm now resting on your shoulders as she brought you in closer.
"I'm gonna get you laid tonight," she said with conviction. You looked at her profile, absolutely bewildered.
"I'm sorry, what?"
"That's right," she nodded her head in content. "You're having sex tonight, just leave it to me."
"Shouldn't we work on having me dance to music alone in my bedroom first?" you countered.
"Even better," she grinned at you with the type of grin your primary teachers warned you about. You know, those creepy man smiles that you should run away from when faced with in a dark, ominous alley? "I'm taking you to a bar."
You could feel Mrs. Peterson screaming at you to run.
But nobody really listened to Mrs. Peterson. Sorry.
You sighed once more at your beaming friend and nodded your head slowly.
"Whatever," you finally said. Attention spanning back to the lecture in front of you as you turned your head. "After the class ends."
Kai smiled and leaned back into her chair, legs crossing and folded arms supporting her head from behind. She looked utterly satisfied.
"Alright Karen," she said.
"My name is not Karen," you grumbled.
"Then stop being such a Karen and let me have my fun," she closed her eyes and smiled. Totally abandoning the lecture playing out before her. Chemistry was all just a bunch of bullshit anyway.
scene two; black eyes
Ambient lighting and muffled voices were what greeted you and Kai as you both entered the bar. The light that shone down above you cast an evanescent sheen across the tiny, hidden bar.
You fumbled in with your red dress and heeled boots, bridging the edge of comfortable and painfully exposed. It’s been years since you've last worn a dress.
"Are you sure this isn't some kind of ancient speakeasy?" you asked Kai, uneasy.
"A speakeasy for bands and stuff sure," she shrugged. "Sadly, no dancing flapper girls, so sorry to disappoint."
You nodded and started heading towards the bar. No matter how badly you wanted to keep up the 'holier than thou' attitude, college was rough and unforgiving.
You ordered your drink and sat down on the stool, Kai following you shortly after as she sat beside you.
"I heard there's gonna be a good band playing tonight," she rings up the bartender and orders a drink.
She takes one look at your drooping face and sighed, her hand coming up to massage your shoulder.
"Loosen up," she takes a sip from her drink, "just for tonight, okay?"
You sighed and nodded timidly, copying her as you took a swig of your own drink.
"Looks like they're almost up," she taps your shoulder. "Mr. Compress is about to introduce them."
"Mister wha—" she shushes you before you could continue, leaving you no other choice but to sigh and watch.
The man with the strange name took center-stage with the microphone in his hand. The crowd seemed to know who he was, for they cheered and started gathering at the front of the stage.
"Let's go take a closer look too," Kai stood up and started dragging you with her. "Take your drink with you."
You looked at the already half-empty glass and shrugged, opting to chug it down instead. You finished your drink and walked with Kai towards the pit of people, still confused about what exactly was going on.
The strangely named man started to speak.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he threw his free hand in the air by his side flamboyantly. "What an incredible pleasure to have you all here tonight. I am delighted to see some familiar faces, and some new ones too."
He grinned.
"I'm sure a lot of you are here to relieve some stress, no?" he asked, and the crowd cheered in affirmation. The man chuckled and continued;
"Well, I best not keep my wonderful patrons waiting then." The crowd cheered louder. "Without further delay, may I present to you, The Villain League!"
The crowd roared as four people took the stage, varied instruments at their disposal, but the one that caught your eye was the one that stood at the center, a guitarist, and a good looking one at that.
He was mostly dressed in dark clothing, aside from the white t-shirt he wore under his long coat. His features were hidden beneath the shadow cast by the dimmed lights.
And that was when the music started.
Electric guitar blinded your senses and opened your eyes. The exhilarating sound numbed the nerves that coursed through your entire body. Every hair on your body stood on its roots, awakened by the new thrill of music.
The lights turned on to the max, and the crowd went wild. Hands flew up in the air, the drinks in the opposite limb gambling on the edge of death.
It was music like you've never heard before.
"Holy shit," you said to yourself, the alcohol in your system taking its effect.
The man in the middle started singing, and you gasped as you took in the rest of his features. A good portion of his face and neck were covered in burn marks, as well as the top of his torso, which then spread across his arms. You awed.
How could someone who looked so damaged be so perfect?
Your eyes watched in wonder as your ears listened with delight. You made a mental note to thank Kai for dragging you into one of the best nights of your life.
So this is what college was supposed to be like.
You smiled, feeling the bricks fall off your shoulders. You stood straighter as your eyes opened wider, and shined even brighter.
This is so awesome.
You threw your hands in the air and let out a scream with the rest of the crowd. Kai catches sight of this and follows along with your mania, a laugh escaping her lips.
You were enjoying the aura of absolute chaos, but nothing had prepared you the moment your eyes caught his, staring right back at you. His mouth formed a devilish smile that made all the heat rush through your body in mere seconds.
"The girl in the red dress," he said into the microphone. Your eyes widened in unalloyed shock as they caught sight of the mischievous glint in his own. "Come out on stage with us."
What the fuck?
The crowd cheered louder and started to look around to find who he was referring to. They soon caught sight of you, who was still calculating the odds of you being the only girl in red.
The sea of people parted and formed a direct path from you to the stage, and you were honestly shell shocked.
Kai laughed and cheered you on.
"Congrats Karen, you've officially been promoted to Moses!" she cheered even louder.
"What, I—" you sputtered out.
Kai took her left hand and smacked your back, forcing you to stumble forward.
"Go!" she yelled at you through the howls of the crowd. "Get. Fucking. Laid!"
At that, the crowd burst into an explosion of screams. Whistles and hoots were all that was heard as your shaking legs made its way towards the stage.
You eventually made it to the edge, and the enigmatic guitarist leaned down to help you. Grasping your hand firmly in his, he hoisted you up easily.
"What's your name?" he leaned into your ear as he said it, his steady voice combating all other noises, and winning.
"Y/N," you said right back into his ear, a shiver coursing through your body as the current situation was doing its number on your sanity.
"Nice shoes Y/N," he said cooly, and your head started spinning.
"Uh, thank you—"
"Let's have a good time together," he smirked at you, who blushed madly.
You looked over at the rest of his bandmates. A young girl with a blonde fringe manning the second electric guitar, she looked at you and grinned widely at you. Eyes smiled shut and tongue jutting out, she threw you a peace sign in welcome.
You looked behind you and saw a strange-looking man playing both the bass and keyboard. You made eye contact with him and he smiled, only for him to completely change his expression and give you the stink-eye, much to your confusion and anxiety.
Finally, you looked over at the drummer who had dead-looking baby blue hair; he glanced at you and nodded briefly in acknowledgment.
"Don't mind the last two," the mysterious guitarist chuckled, "they're a lot more decent than they seem."
You nodded and smiled at him.
"So," he started. "Care to join in on the fun?"
You took a deep breath.
"Okay."
It was funny how you had started with not even being able to dance alone in your room. And now here you were, dancing along with countless strangers to music you never felt before.
scene three; ilysb
"You're new here, right?" the man said. He was sitting across from you with his head resting on his hand. His piercing blue eyes were focused only on you.
It had been about an hour since you stepped foot inside the hidden bar and thirty minutes since you were standing on stage with the band having the time of your life.
You looked over to the stage and saw your drunk friend Kai singing 'I Kissed a Girl,' microphone in her hands as she belted her heart out to the cheering crowd.
You couldn't help but chuckle, before turning your attention back to the enigmatic man staring intently at you.
"That's not slightly creepy at all," you answered jokingly.
The man chuckled slyly.
"I play here almost every night," he retorted coolly. "I would have definitely remembered you if you weren't new."
You nodded. Smooth.
"Fuck men!" you turned around to find Kai screaming into the microphone, one hand on the microphone stand and the other on the microphone itself. You sighed at the common occurrence.
"Fun friend you got," the man with burn marks said, attention also brought over to your crazed friend.
You sighed and nodded.
"I'm this close to dropping her," you said with no conviction.
He seemed to have caught on to your tone and answered accordingly.
"But you never will," he said.
"Yup," you nodded once more.
You looked over to him again, the alcohol in your body taking full effect.
"Wanna get out of here?" you asked him.
He looked at you with his eyebrow raised, a small smirk playing on his lips.
"And abandon your fun friend?" he asked you.
"Yes," you looked at him straight in the eyes as you said it.
"Sounds fun," he said, already standing up from his seat.
You followed suit, casting your drunk friend one last look before following the strange man out of the small speakeasy.
The cold night air greeted your body that clung tightly onto the limited warmth of your sweater jacket. You walked idly with the man standing beside you, the streets painted a dark vignette by the evening sky. The night suited him, you thought.
You let out a deep exhale which invaded the darkness with its cold color, the hues fighting until the dull white was engulfed by the overwhelming darkness of nightfall.
You looked up at the stars that were scattered across the sky, their white twinkle enrapturing the night sky with its light and color. Their light so bright that it couldn't be overthrown by the darkness of black. Instead, they were displayed up in the sky, allowed to show off their beauty with no restraints.
"Orion's in the sky," you observed quietly.
The man turned over to look at you.
"The constellation?" he asked as he too tilted his head up to watch the night sky.
"Yeah," you nodded, "I can't find the Pleiades, though."
Absentmindedly, your feet started moving in hopes to catch sight of the constellation. The dark-haired man watched you quizzically.
"Do you really think moving around will make them appear?" he asked you, who was now trudging farther and farther away. He sighed and started following you.
"There're so many buildings around," you groaned in your drunken state. "Can't a girl just see her stars when she wants to?"
He tilted his head in slight amusement and chuckled lowly.
"If it's the buildings you're worried about, I know where there's a field," he said. You turned around instantly.
"Show me this field, good sir."
"It's this way," he tilted his head over to the right, feet already walking towards its direction. You followed him, skipping.
You eventually were led towards an open field located on a small hill in the park. Wow, we had a park?
"Woah," you said in wonder. Your arms flying up from your sides as you spun around the grass, hair dancing in the breeze from your movements.
The man just watched you curiously, a small smile of endearment flickering on his lips.
You let out a big sigh of contempt and threw yourself down onto the grass floor, feeling at peace as the earthly bodies embraced you. The man who led you here followed suit, leaving little to no distance between your two figures as he laid down beside you.
"Can you see the Pleiades now?" he asked from beside you.
You looked up and examined the heavens, and your eye immediately catches the open star cluster that painted the sky. A gasp escapes your lips as you point up at the constellation you were looking for.
"There they are!" you squealed slightly, unable to control your excitement in your drunken state.
"Why'd you want to see them so badly?" he looked at you and asked.
"If you catch sight of Orion, then you're most likely gonna find the Pleiades too." You started, eyes focused eagerly on the stars. "There's this whole story behind them you know, about Orion and the Seven Sisters.
"It was said by Greek mythology that Orion fell in love with the sisters, and pined over them for 12 years. He would always chase after them in hopes that they would become his someday. But that was until one day Zeus decided to turn him and the sisters into stars. So Orion could chase them forever for the rest of eternity but never once be able to touch them."
"Wow," he said from beside you.
"Yeah," you said from beside him.
"You said they were the Seven Sisters," he said.
"Yeah?" you turned your head over to look at him, his eyes seemingly glowing under the star studded sky.
"But I can only see six at most," he stated.
"Oh," you turned your head back to the sky. "That's because those are the only ones visible to the naked eye. If you look through a telescope, a dozen more stars are visible."
"Is there a story behind that, too?" he asked.
"Yup," you stated and continued. "According to storytellers, Merope— one of the sisters, is hiding her face because she's the only one of the sisters who married a mortal and thus isn't respected for it.
"Her husband, Sisyphus isn't represented in the night sky either, cause he was condemned by Zeus to forever roll a stone up a hill in Hades only to watch it roll down again when he almost gets it to the top."
"That's..." his voice drifted off, "really sad."
You hummed in affirmation.
"You really like astronomy, huh?" he stated. "I'm assuming you're into astrology too?"
"Yeah," you answered.
"So, you're some type of zodiac girl," he said. "How quirky."
You scoffed.
"What type of music are you into?" he suddenly changed the subject, surprising you.
"I don't listen to music that much honestly," you said, surprising him, but not showing it on his face.
"Okay," he said. "Very quirky."
You laughed at yourself.
"Are you okay?" he asked you jokingly, maybe the alcohol was finally starting to get to him too. "Childhood trauma? Emotional baggage? Crazy ex-boyfriend?"
"Traumatizing college life," you said matter-of-factly. "And also just downright not having the time to listen to music."
"Spotify's expensive, too," you added.
"Ever heard of a radio?" he asked.
"Yes, but I can never concentrate on studying when music is on," you said.
"Ah," he said in a moment of realization. "It all makes perfect sense now. What's your major?"
"Organic chemistry," you said.
"Yeah," he nodded. "Makes sense."
"Kindly enlighten me then, cause I can't make sense of anything going on in my life," you said.
"You're a young adult suffering from the expectations and academically-focused constructs of our society," he said.
"Damn," you started. "You're right."
You sighed and placed your attention back at the azure before you.
"The moon's crying," you stated.
"What?" he asked, confused.
"The moon feels sad," you answered vaguely.
"The moon is sad," he stated beside you, eyes now focused onto the heavenly body in question. "The moon's just a broken planet that needs the sun to make it shine."
"Just because it needs help doesn't mean their shine is any less beautiful," you said back.
A long silence passed between the two of you, he looked at you, whose focus was still set onto the night sky. Whatever had you so enchanted by them, he might never know, but as he watched your features bloom with the ethereal sparkle of night, the twinkle in your eyes matching— no, outshining that of the stars you looked so fondly upon, he just sighed softly.
"Whatever you say, zodiac girl."
scene four; still with you
You were walking home with him in the cold night air, wind dancing softly around both of your figures as the gentle shrill tickled your senses.
It was colder than usual, you thought. But maybe that was just from the thrill of not spending your nights like you usually did, alone in your bedroom studying a topic you couldn't care less about. You sighed.
When was the last time you were able to lay down on your bed listening to music?
You were grateful for Kai, who you just realized had been abandoned at the bar she forced you into. You prayed for your survival the following day. You say that, but in the end, you were nonetheless thankful for giving you a college experience other than cramming every day.
You thought about what you would have been doing if you weren't forced into the bar, and laughed at the predictability.
You finally made it to your front door.
"Goodnight," the blue-eyed man said to you.
"Yeah," you said back. "Thanks for walking me home."
He nodded and watched as you made your way over to your front door.
You stopped.
You didn't know if it was the alcohol in your system, the cold night air, the thrilling atmosphere of spontaneity, or all of the above. But right now, you weren't in the mood to answer any multiple-choice questions.
You wanted to live for once. You wanted to feel anything else other than the dread of an upcoming deadline or relief after a grueling exam.
For once, you wanted— needed to be free of the expectations and academically-centered constructs of society. Constructs that you never wanted to question until now.
Even if it was only for tonight, you wanted to do the thing you wanted to do.
Even if it turns into a mistake, you would gladly take it for a few minutes of freedom.
You turned around and ran towards the man whose names you realized you didn't even know. But you were too far gone to be stopped.
Your hands found the side of his face and pulled your faces close, eyes meeting and lips almost touching. You breathed nervously.
"Can I kiss you?" you asked suddenly.
Shock and confusion flickered before his eyes but disappeared just as quickly.
"Sure—" he said, and your lips finally connected.
The kiss lasted for mere seconds until you pulled away, flustered and drunk and confused.
What were you doing?
You turned back around to enter your home and scream at yourself.
How could you just throw yourself at him like that?
But suddenly, his hand grabbed your arm and pulled you back towards him, connecting your lips once more. You could have sworn you melted.
The kiss lasted much longer, lips moving against one another and breaths being mixed together in the cold night outside your apartment building. Your hands in his hair and his arms around your shaking frame.
You pulled away to catch your breath, your air puffing up in the chilly twilight.
You pulled onto the sleeve of his jacket and led him towards your apartment, rushing past the other tenants and employees, you quickly got on the elevator where more kisses were exchanged in a drunken haze.
The elevator doors opened, and the two of you rushed out with you guiding him to your door.
You hurriedly put in your key, hands slightly shaking, the door opens and you hastily go inside.
He comes into your small apartment and closes the door with his foot, the door meeting the frame with a soft thud. He pushes you against the wall and your lips meet once again.
You didn't know how much time had passed with his lips moving against yours and hands roaming across your body, the contact sending both heat and shivers to course through your entire being.
His lips moved to your jaw, slowly making its journey down to your neck. Your breath hitched.
Some more time passed with low moans and heavy breathing coming from the both of you, now laying on your twin-sized bed half-naked.
You looked out the window beside your bed and saw the stars and moon staring back at you, illuminating your figures in its magical glow.
It was like time didn't exist when you were engulfed in his arms, his lips peppering your body in kisses and bite marks causing you to moan softly. You wanted to know what he was thinking, what he was feeling, with the moonlight shining softly on his features.
Your hands found themselves buried in his soft hair, time passing by faster as more clothes were being discarded around you.
"Y/N..." he said your name softly. His light voice passes by you, sending shivers down your spine.
Your breath hitched. Having no name to call out to, you whimpered instead. Your bodies intertwined together under the dim light of your apartment, and your heart taking timid steps towards him, tripping and falling deeper and deeper.
It was colder than usual, the low-pitched hum of the air conditioner you forgot to turn off comforting you from afar. Your body shivered more, not used to the sensations. It felt good, it felt really good, but there was something about it that pained you and made you want to fall apart.
The unfamiliarity of the pleasure and sweat clouded your mind and made you think back to the times when you were studying instead. This was far different than the dull absence your mind feels when reviewing all your lessons. But even then, thinking back to the simple emotions that came from your textbooks and notes, maybe these simple feelings were special to you too.
The night progressed further, and time was lost once and for all in the midst of your shared pleasure, the night turning darker as the sparkling sky glowed onto your sweaty figures.
You both reached your climax and breathed heavily, eyes meeting and foreheads touching in what seemed like a hazy afterglow, both your minds fogged and judgments clouded.
Your hand delicately went up to touch his cheek, his eyes shimmering in the glow of the night sky. He looked at you with the faintest smile. Underneath it was painted the most beautiful purple, his broken and damaged face sending your heart into a fit of shooting stars.
His body collapsed next to you on the small bed, arms encasing you tightly against his warm body.
You looked over to the window beside your bed. The sun was slowly rising, and the moon began to fade away into the brightening sky.
You felt your eyes slowly closing, finally giving in to the sleep you denied yourself all night.
Goodbye moon.
And just as the moon left your sky that February sunrise, so did the man who slept next to you that very next day.

TW: Suicide mention
Kingdom Collisions VI
Once upon a time in a land known for water and jewels there lived a young boy. He had skin the colour of soil and eyes the colour of oceans and were your gaze to ever fall upon this little figure you knew the earth was created just for him. The boy lived in a white-stone castle, surrounded by guards in clanking silver armour and blue-feathered helmets. Swords gleamed with their newness. They are decoration, a rite of passage. They only reflect the water. Children darted between their legs as they swoppeed shifts and if you looked closely the boy was often one of them. The castle stood proud and tranquil in the kingdom and gave the people hope.
If the white walls stand tall the queen will rise above all.
A piece of poetry long since washed away. That single line ran through the city streets like rain water. Ran into people's homes, and under the wheels of rumbling cars. Generations had forgotten the poem to time but that line for it's power and rhyme had weathered the changing tides. If you listened closely the trees still knew the words. But nobody ever heard. The world was too busy and the day too new to remember what it was like to become one with evergreens.
Percy Jackson wakes up with a gasp, heart beating like conga drums. His fingers curl into his chest, leaving red marks as he winces sleep away. The world is still pitch black; stars hidden behind a blanket of storms. He wonders if they find comfort wrapped in the clouds. If those white puffs feel as soft as they look. Sleep is faraway, a distant friend stuck at a cold airport terminal. So he drifts to the window, ignoring the wind prickling his skin and sits down at the bench. The chiffon curtains rustle softly, talking to him in a language he hasn't quite yet learned. He knows they're saying something important. They must be if they brush against his legs every few minutes. Everyone is always trying to tell him something important. Something life changing and groundbreaking. He wishes he could pause time for a little while. Stroll through the gardens and into the ocean without anybody running after him.
The curtain drifts towards him again and he sighs as if the universe has made him designated driver. An unwanted, unwilling task.
Somewhere a bird caws and he snorts softly, "Okay, okay. I'm handling it."
He let's the sounds of the wind take him through the endless corridors, let's it carry him like a dying flower, like autumn leaves, like bonfire embers. The stone floor is cold under his bare feet and his body is littered with bumps. He misses the warmth of his castle. Misses the warmth of the hearth in every room and the smell of the sea that drifts in through open windows. Mostly, especially, he misses his mom. There is something distinctly missing from the Castle of Caelum. He hasn't quite put his finger on it but it doesn't feel right.
He doesn't have time to delve into that thought because all at once everything goes quiet. A large door looms before him.
"So this is it huh?" His voice is soft, afraid to disrupt the silence.
Taking a deep breath, filling up his lungs with the air of the Kingdom of Wind, he knocks on the wood. It is gentle and solitary and he's almost certain no-one heard it but his ears perk up anyway. He knows you can't pick up footfalls on stone but it doesn't stop his heart from racing in anticipation. The door opens with a soft click and tired eyes look at him.
"Percy," Jason's voice is raspy with crying and his heart shatters.
"Hey, can I come in?"
The blonde looks at him, brows furrowed and tear stains carved into his cheeks. Percy can see the tiredness in the prince's bones, like x-rays of exhaustion. He's about to say nevermind, about to walk away, walk past his own chambers and into the lifeless night. But the Prince nods once and moves aside.
He feels almost disappointed that he couldn't escape. Disappointed he couldn't just go back and never return. His mother's voice flitters into his head.
When your people are suffering you must lie down with them and ask them to tell you their story.
Why mom?
Because little one when the time comes you will know what to do.
How momma?
We are made of stories little one. We are made of all the things people tell us. Our dreams and hopes and memories are just threads in a tapestry and every person is connected to it.
I don't understand momma?
She smiled at him, perfect white teeth and dark blue eyes: When you think of me little one, what comes to mind?
Ten year old Percy frowned, Chocolate chip cookies, and your bedtime tales, and the beach, and hugs.
And what do you think about Grover?
Percy's green eyes had lit up like the sun: Play time and movies and ice-cream!
She laughed: And what about Dad?
His little brows furrowed: Fancy clothes and swords and paper and cuddles.
And Princess Piper?
His nose scrunched up: Cooties! He squealed and then he was running around the room; the world a flowing river, him a little fish learning its current.
You see little one, you didn't think about bones or skin or blood. You thought of memories and stories. Do you understand now?
He nodded as he scrambled into her lap: I think so momma. So if my people tell me who they are I can use their stories to help them when they're sore?
Almost little one. Half of hurt is because nobody listens. If you just listen to what your people are saying they will not hurt so much.
Is that because we have to tell our stories momma?
"Exactly. That is how we live. And live on."
Prince Perseus Jackson takes a deep breath and steps into the room. Immediately he can feel the icy wind, so much colder up here, stinging his bare arms, chest, legs. Save for the small silk boxers covering his most sensitive parts his body is exposed to the brutal temperatures and he cannot hide a shiver as he settles on the couch. The fire has died long ago, maybe not even put on for the night, if the grey ashes and lack of heat are indication enough.
"What are you doing here?" The blonde prince looks at him.
"The curtains told me to come."
"What?" He can hear the confusion, but more than that the weight of a thousand heartaches.
He wonders if every person who has their heartbroken feels like they're the first to ever go through it. If that feeling is so perfectly human it feels unique and special to each one.
"Sometimes the world talks to me and sometimes I listen."
"I don't really know what game you're playing but I'm not in the mood so if it isn't an emergency," Those eyes are ice blue, "And I honestly wouldn't care even if it was, please get out."
"I cannot." He shrugs and pulls a velvet blanket over him.
"I'd appreciate," Jason's teeth grit, "If you respected my boundaries enough to leave. I am not in the mood."
"The window is open, there is paper sitting on the desk and many crumpled pieces on the floor, and I can see you haven't even sat on your bed, never-mind slept in it. What do you plan to do Grace?"
"You know what." That voice is hard, malicious with fear, pain.
"I will not leave. And you will not either. You can sit there on your bed hating me till the sun graces us once more. You can punch me until I am the same colour as the dusk but I am not leaving."
"I hate you. Leave me alone." He can hear the tears hit the cold stone. He doesn't react. A shadow blocks the moonlight finally peaking through the clouds.
"I said leave me the fuck alone!"
"I cannot do that Prince."
"Don’t call me that." He snaps, pushing his face into Percy's, "Go away! I want to be alone."
"I can't Jason,"
"JUST LEAVE!" Golden fists pound at his chest, droplets of salt soaking into his skin, as if trying to wash away the bruising.
He grabs his husband's hands gently and pulls him to the couch.
"I'm not going to leave you."
"They all left." Jason gasps, "They left. HE LEFT!"
The scream draws blood from his ears, pulls oxygen from his veins.
"I'm here. I'm not leaving. I am here."
"Please," Sobs wrack that broken body, and Percy can feel the first cracks in a kingdom. "Please don't leave me. Please, please please."
He rubs his hand over a shaking back and mutters over and over again, "I will not leave you."
Prince Jason Grace cries a new ocean and he names it after the fire that caused it. When the sun peaks over the horizon, fracturing a wall of crystal, and attempting to warm those cold grey stones, Percy Jackson takes his husband to bed and ignores the fissures running under his feet.
Once upon a time in a kingdom known for storms and gold there lived a little boy. He had eyes of lightning and skin the colour of sunlight and if you ever caught a glimpse of him you knew only the darkest nights could ever produce something so beautiful. The guards are bathed in riches, weighed down by diamonds cut from dreams and earrings weighted with the pureness of gold. Swords are varied and prized. Bred for fodder. Used at will. He lived in a castle made of grey stone and it loomed over the kingdom like a black cloud. The people looked at it and shied away. For they too had a poem about their crown but they remembered every line.
Those who fell under the shadow of stone were sure to be left to ruin by their king and cursed forever alone. A young boy with hair spun from starlight is trapped inside. Who will save him if he cannot hide?
Forgetting was a death warrant.

Happy Life: How to Walk a Familiar
Primary Pairing: YohaRiko Words: ~2k Rating: G AU: Angelic? Time Frame: Sometime during their college years Story Arc: Stand Alone
Author’s Note: Someday I’ll get back to the other YohaRiko scenes I’ve started, including the one that this one was supposed to be...
“Ne, Yocchan!” Riko called as she left her room on her way to the living room, her pug in tow.
“What’s up, Riri?” Yoshiko responded as she paused her game.
“I’m going to take Prelude for a walk. Want to come with us?”
“Definitely!” The blue-haired girl made to jump up from the couch before realizing there was a purring furball in her lap. “Uhm… one moment… Sorry, Phobetor.” She nudged the cat gently in an attempt to have him leave of his own volition.
For his part, Phobetor took his time getting to his feet and stretching with a sizable yawn before stepping down onto the cushion beside Yoshiko. He glanced among the other three occupants of the apartment as though trying to determine the purpose of his nap being interrupted.
“We’ll be back in a little bit.” Yoshiko assured, patting the kitten’s head before moving toward the entryway.
“Merow!” Phobetor uttered, rubbing up against Yoshiko’s leg as she knelt to tie her shoe.
“Be a good boy while we’re out.” Yoshiko responded, petting her cat. She frowned, however, when the meowing continued as she stood. “We’ll be back before you know it.” She assured.
Phobetor switched tactics and moved toward Prelude, bunting against her while his vocalizations became more pleading.
“C’mon, Prelude.” Riko started to open the door and was about to step out when she felt resistance at the other end of the leash. “Prelude?” She turned to find her puppy sitting squarely in place. “Do you think we should let him come with us, Yocchan?” Riko inquired of her girlfriend.
“I’d like to bring him.” Yoshiko admitted. “But I don’t know how we would do that. I haven’t even bought a collar for him as I wasn’t expecting to take him anywhere other than the vet on occasion. I should probably get one…”
“Hrm…” Riko considered, watching the protesting pets for a moment. “I wonder if…” She trailed off as she closed the front door and opened the closet instead. “Ah, here we go.” She said after a minute or two of searching. “I wonder if Prelude’s old collar will fit?”
“Maybe? It looks a little big.” Yoshiko took the collar and knelt. Phobetor immediately stopped yowling and moved to sit in front of her. “Usually owners use harnesses on cats because they’re harder to get out of and there is less risk of the cat choking. Huh, just barely. Still pretty loose...” She commented as she used the last hole in the leather to secure the collar.
“Perhaps we can add a stop at the pet store to our route.” Riko said, holding out a spare leash. “Maybe Ryoushi-kun will be there and can meet him?” She mentioned the name of their favorite associate.
“Sounds good.” Yoshiko agreed as she attached the leash to her cat’s collar. “You’ll be a good boy and not pull out of this, right? We just need to make it to the store and we’ll get you one that fits better and a proper harness. Oh, and a nametag too!” She knocked her knuckles atop her head. “I don’t know why I didn’t think to get one earlier.”
“Well we haven’t really let him out…” Riko tried to reason.
“Yeah, but there was always a risk that he could have gotten out at some point.” Yoshiko lamented. “I don’t want anyone thinking he’s a stray anymore now that we’ve given him a good home.”
As if responding to her change in mood, Phobetor ran himself against her hand, earning a couple pets.
“Well, better late than never, right?” Riko offered. “Anyway, we should head out so we have enough time to get to the park and back in time for dinner. Let’s go get Phobetor a tag worthy of his status as Yohane’s familiar.”
That seemed the brighten the younger girl’s mood. “Indeed!” She jumped up. “A fallen angel’s familiar deserves nothing but the best!”
Riko smiled and opened the door again to lead everyone out.
“Ah, Riko-san, Yohane-sama.” A boy greeted the two girls as they moved down the store aisle. “Good to see you as always.” He knelt and produced a small treat as their dog hurried over to him. “Welcome back, Prelude-chan.” He smiled as he patted the pug before standing again.
“Hi, Ryoushi-kun.” Riko returned the greeting.
The young man’s attention turned to Yoshiko’s shoulder. “Pray tell, might this be the legendary familiar for which Yohane-sama hath sung many a praise?”
Yoshiko grinned. “Thou hath a keen eye, Choukyoushi!” She intoned. “Indeed, this day, Yohane hath summoned forth my most faithful of servants to honor you with his presence! Meet Phobetor!”
The cat reached out a paw and leaned forward as though to jump.
“He loves meeting new people.” Yoshiko explained as her voice returned to normal.
“Well it is indeed an honor to finally meet you in person, Phobetor-kun.” Ryoushi replied, taking the kitten into his arms. “Let’s see what I have for good little familiars.” He shifted the cat to cradle him in one arm so he could retrieve another treat from his apron. “Are you four here for normal restocking or for something specific?” He turned his attention back to the two humans.
“Phobetor wants to join us when we walk Prelude,” Riko spoke up “so we need a harness for him.”
“And since we’re here, I want to get a proper collar and tag for him.” Yoshiko added.
Ryoushi nodded. “I believe we can find ones that will suit him.” With that said, he turned and lead the way with Phobetor still purring in his arms.
“Yocchan, look” Riko said soon after the group had found the display “doesn’t that one look a little like the symbol you used during our time with Aqours?”
Yoshiko leaned in to inspect the tag in question. “It does!” She cried excitedly, pulling it from the rack. “Good find, Riri! Ne, Choukyoushi, can you etch a demon face on this?”
“Our machine does have a custom setting.” The store associate confirmed. “Let me show you how to use it.” He lead them to the device at the end of aisle where he pulled up an image representing the tag.
Yoshiko hummed happily to herself as she used the touch screen to draw eyes and a fanged mouth on the digital blank.
“Alright, now use this button to flip it over.” Ryoushi explained. “Then type his name in the upper box and your address in the lower one. Perfect. Now while this does its thing, go ahead and pick out a collar to put it on.”
“Back in a moment, Phobetor.” Yoshiko called to her cat before practically skipping away.
Riko and Prelude followed at a more normal pace. By the time they caught up, Yoshiko was already inspecting a collar in her hand.
“Is black really a good color?” Riko inquired. “Phobetor’s fur is black, so won’t the collar blend in too much?”
“Hrm…” Yoshiko pondered.
“Maybe this grey one will stand out better?” The redhead selected a different one. “Grey was your color as an idol after all.”
“Riri makes a good point. Alright. I’ll get this one.” The blue-haired girl took the offered collar. “Phobetor!” She called, moving back to the end of the aisle. “Look at what I got for you!”
Phobetor looked over from his position on Ryoushi’s shoulder and cocked his head to the side with curiosity. He seemed fine until Yoshiko reached toward him, at which point he turned his head away.
“Just let me get the old one…” Yoshiko said.
The cat eluded his master’s hands again before retreating to Ryoushi’s other shoulder.
“Phobetor.” Yoshiko chided.
Another attempt was made to remove the old collar but this time, Phobetor jumped down and scampered over to Prelude, pressing in against the larger dog as though using her as a shield.
Yoshiko handed the new collar to Ryoushi before kneeling down in front of the two animals. “Are you sure you want to keep that one? It might be a little heavy for a while and loose until you grow into it.” She asked, reaching a hand forward and smiling as her cat stepped forward cautiously but eventually rubbed against her palm. She looked up at her girlfriend. “Can he keep this one?”
Riko chuckled. “Of course. He seems to like it.”
Yoshiko grinned and stood. “We’ll put the tag on the collar he has now.” She announced to Ryoushi as though it wasn’t already obvious.
“Alright.” The associate replied, popping the small metal plate out of the etching device. “Here you go.” He handed over the tag as well as a pair of pliers.
“It came out perfect.” Yoshiko marveled at the design. “Here, Phobetor, will you at least let me put this on that collar? If you want to go out with us, you need some sort of identification.” She knelt again in front of the cat.
This time, Phobetor did not retreat, instead he lifted his chin to allow easier access.
“Good boy.” Yoshiko praised as she opened the jumper ring attached to the tag, secured it to the collar and bent it back into place. “There we g- oh, hey…” She caught her cat as he jumped up into her arms. Giggling, she scratched him behind his ears.
“Shall we look at harnesses next?” Riko inquired.
“Those are right here on the other side from the collars.” Ryoushi pointed out. “Let’s size one out for him.”
“I think Phobetor likes his new gear.” Riko commented as she watched their cat strut proudly beside their dog.
“Definitely.” Yoshiko agreed. “I’m so glad he can join us for our family walks like this.”
“As am I.” Riko agreed. Though not just for his sake, she thought to herself as she also took pleasure in seeing her girlfriend this happy.
“So, we’re headed to the park next?” Yoshiko inquired as the group came to a stop at a crosswalk.
Riko nodded. “I figured we could toss a ball a few times for Prelude and just enjoy the weather for a bit before we head back.”
“Alright. Oh, the light chang- eh?” Yoshiko paused with her foot a few centimeters off the ground as their cat suddenly jumped onto their dog’s leash. “Phobetor wha-?”
A box truck careened through the intersection against the red light, plowing through the crosswalk where the four of them would had been had they stepped forward. Yoshiko’s leg came down awkwardly and she overcorrected her balance backward, tipping herself over in the process. She landed roughly, but otherwise safely on the sidewalk.
“What jus… Riri, are you alright?!” Yoshiko looked up frantically to see her girlfriend frozen in shock.
“I’m… f-fine…” Riko’s movements were like a marionette with missing strings as she reached down to help the other girl back to her feet.
“Did Phobetor… just stop us from being isakai’d?” Yoshiko stared at the cat who was now playing with the leash that had been dropped.
Phobetor rolled onto his back held the braided nylon with is front paws while biting it and kicking at it with his back legs, seeming to be completely oblivious to the reactions of the two girls.
The chuckle that escaped Riko’s lips from her girlfriend’s bad joke felt odd, yet somehow still managed to ease some of her tension. She swallowed before asking. “Are you okay, Yocchan?”
“Well, either my familiar has a strange way of saving us, or the luck of my angel ascended did the trick.” Yoshiko knelt to retrieve Prelude’s leash. “But so long as Riri and her familiars are alright, so is Yohane.”
Of course, Yoshiko would be calmer about the situation, Riko realized, this was by no means her first close call. Heck, she fell off a balcony back in high school and was back to normal in moments, or at least as much as normal applied to her.
Something stirred in the back of Riko’s mind, but when she tried to focus on it, it was gone. Same as always.
“Shall we go?”
Yoshiko’s voice pulled Riko back to reality and she looked down to see the other girl holding out her dog’s leash.
“Right…” Riko replied, taking the handle as the four of them resumed their walk.

For the soulmate au thing how about 2: name tattooed on wrist, for Rohan. Considering how popular he is there is no where near enough content for him honestly. Anyways, I love your blog and hope you have a lovely day!
I'm suprised too, he needs some love.
I hope you have a nice day too!
Chaotically in order
(yandere Rohan X Gender Neutral Reader)
Marioh Cho was a small town but it was also a bizarre one. Not that you could remember any other to compare it to. You just woke up one day in a tree with no recollections of who you were or how you got there, the only identification you had was a bag with the name (Y/n) on it. That's when you met the group of teens that would become your closest friends. Josuke, Okuyasu and Koichi and much like them the town was also just as friendly, besides the occasional rouge stand user of course.
You had managed to get a job in a cafe and a small rental apartment within a couple of weeks and life seemed to go quite smoothly for you. Of course you wanted to figure out who you were and how you ended up in such a predicament but for now you just wanted to plant your roots and keep it steady.
Today was a beautiful Saturday, so you had decided to catch up with Josuke and Koichi at the cafe you usually were working at. You had also invited Okuyasu too but he couldn't make it. You assumed it may have something to do with his father, however despite the lack of Okuyasu you all had a good talk until you looked in you bag in search of a pen to use for a drawing you were working on when your stand Learning to fly had activated and you had ended up with several different ones.
"Hey that's my pen I've been looking for it for weeks!" Koichi exclaimed as he grabbed one of them.
"Welp at least you have it back now, my stand really has a mind of it's own I guess..." You said as you rubbed the back of your neck with your free hand before searching through the handful of pens you had for the right colour until Koichi interrupted again.
"That looks like one of Rohan's pens, don't you think so Josuke?" Koichi said as pointed to a black and gold one amongst the rest.
"Yeah" Josuke agreed as he tried to snatch it out of your hand but you stopped him.
"Wait, Rohan?" You exclaimed.
"Do you know him (Y/n)?" Koichi asked.
"Not really but I've have a tattoo with that name on my arm for as long as I can remember" you said as you pulled it out of your hand and put the rest away.
"Maybe he knows something about how you ended up here" Koichi explained before writing down something on a napkin.
"This is his address, hopefully something good comes out of it" he said as he handed it to you with a wry smile on his face.
"Be careful thou, he's a real creep" Josuke warned with an annoyed expression on his face as he fixed up his hair.
"Josuke you don't have to say something so harsh about Rohan, I'm sure you only feel the way you do about him because he said something bad about your hair" Koichi said as he looked up at the other teen. The looked like they were both years apart but surprisingly they were in the same grade.
"Hey I'm not just gonna let anyone get away with dissing my fucking hair like that, it takes me ages to get it looking like this" he argued with a huff.
🖋️🖋️🖋️
You looked down at the napkin once more before nervously knocking on the door. You were anxious but also hopeful that this Rohan Kishibe knew something about how you ended here. You silently waited for a few minutes until you saw the door creak open slightly.
"I'm not expecting any visitors today, if you want an autograph then you'll just have to wait til the next issue comes out" the male said arrogantly as he peered through the door.
"I'm sorry but Koichi told me to come here" you muttered as you tried to avoid eye contact with his harsh gaze.
"Are you a friend of Koichi?" He asked.
"Yes" you replied. His expression lightened and he opened the door fully. You were able to see the male properly. He had short green hair that was held up by a zigzaged shaped headband and wore a baggy green and purple outfit.
"Well any friend of Koichi is a friend of mine, come in" he chimed as he moved aside to let you in. You quickly took of your shoes and put them aside before entering his home. It was fairly clean except for the occasional bundle of pens, pencils and erasers that littered his home. It was no suprise that he would have lost one at one stage.
"So what brings you here today?" Rohan asked as he brought you into the living room and sat down on his lounge and you followed.
"I think this belongs to you" you said as you pulled out the black and gold pen and handed it to him.
"So you just came here to give me a pen?" he asked in a sceptical tone.
"No... I also wanted to ask you something" you nervously replied.
"Oh you want to get a sneak peek at the latest chapter of Pink dark boy before it's published?" He asked.
"No, I'm afraid I don't know what that is..." You mumbled.
"Wait you haven't heard of my work before?!" He asked in absolute shock.
"No, not as I'm aware of... I can't recall much, I was here to ask you if you knew who I was?" You explained.
"You see I woke up a maybe just over a month ago in a tree with no memory of who I was or how I got there" you continued before lifting your sleeve up to show the tattoo on your wrist.
"I thought that you might be able to explain how I got this" you said.
A smile grew on the males lips as he pulled up his sleeve to reveal (Y/n) written on it.
"So I assume you are (Y/n)?" He asked.
"Wait assume? how could you have my name tattoed on your wrist and not know who I am?" You exclaimed.
"It's a birth mark" he responded.
"And yours is quite possibly as well" he explained.
"But how could we have corresponding birthmarks?" You asked, you just couldn't wrap your head around it.
"I believe it maybe a soulmates sign, a symbol that we were meant to cross paths" he said slyly as a mischievous smirk drew on his face as he leaned closer to you, causing you to press yourself against the lounge as you felt his dark gaze violating you. This was what Josuke must of meant by calling him a creep.
"You know, I always wondered what you would be like..." He hummed as he harshly grabbed your arm.
"Wait what are you doing?!" You screamed as you tried to get his grip off of you before he pinned you down and a creature that almost looked like a little boy appeared, he must of been a stand user. He noticed that your your attention diverted from him.
"Oh... Your a stand user too? Don't worry I just want to have a look at your memories... It won't hurt, I promise" he cooed before grabbing a pen with his free hand drawing across your face causing your face to peel back and. You hated this you felt so violated know that he was going to look through your memories, there may not be many but you still didn't want him seeing into your private life.
He hummed in delight and muttered under his breath as he read your life story like a book.
"Truely remarkable, you'd make a great character in Pink dark boy... A young person with amnisia trying to maintain an ordinary everyday life while also getting caught up in situations that could only be referred to as bizarre, a character with developmental potential... A character that couldn't be hated by the readers!" he exclaimed as he sat up and pulled you up before waving his pen in your face. You wanted to run away so badly, you would already be out the door but you just couldn't, your body was as stiff as a rock, unaware that he had already written his orders on you.
"I know you want to run but I need you to be still for a bit while I sketch you up" he said as he grabbed out his sketch book before pressing the pages on you face til it was closed.
'Oh Koichi, what the fuck did you get me into?' you mentally asked as he pushed you head lightly to the side. Fear just continued to build up in you
"Oh your such a perfect muse already... I could just draw you from every angle" he cooed.
🖋️🖋️🖋️
After all the fuss he made of drawing you he removed the writing he had wrote in earlier. You instantly ran to the door but you found yourself unable to turn the doorknob.
"Please, just please let me go!" You yelled at the male.
"No I have so much more to learn -" he said until his home phone began to ring and he picked it up.
"Oh Koichi hello... yes they're with me" he said. You quickly tried to grab the phone out of his hand but he managed push you to the floor and use his stand on you again.
"Oh (Y/n) are you alright? I'll put them on now" He said as he helped you up.
You grabbed the phone out of his hands and this time he didn't stop you.
"Hey (Y/n) how are you doing? I hope he isn't acting weird?" Koichi asked you.
"No everything's fine... I'm actually getting along with him very well" were the words that came out of your mouth which were contradictory to what you had tried to say.
"Oh that's good, I just wanted to check in on you that's all" he said
"Well good bye" he said.
"Bye..." You sheepishly replied before the phone hung up. You were mentally screaming as you realised how hopeless you were.
"You have such an interesting personality... I just want you to show it to me first hand" he said as he wrapped his arms around you from behind.

Prelude: These Violent Delights Have Violent Ends
First post on whump and of course I decide to take my truly darkest plot and use it. I’m not sure where this is on the dark scale for this community, but I mean I guess beware? CW: Self-harm, possibly implied suicide attempt, Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, box boy setting, pet whump setting, modern slavery, domestic abuse, parental abuse, self-whump, caretaker as whumper
Thanks to @ashintheairlikesnow for both inspiring me and also letting me use Karen Renford, who may make an appearance in another piece with Ward about his particular taste in pets. “Amen, amen. But come what sorrow can,
It cannot countervail the exchange of joy
That one short minute gives me in her sight.
Do thou but close our hands with holy words,
Then love-devouring death do what he dare;
It is enough I may but -”
DING-DING-DING-DONG….DONG-DING-DING-DONG
The nine-chimed tune interrupts the man’s gravely reading of Shakespeare, causing him to blink, squinting in the fading light of the fireplace at the old grandfather clock that has moved on to loud BONGS to state the late hour.
Pulling off his glasses, the old man rubs at an eye “Oh my, is it already ten? Well, it’s best off to bed for both of us. We can pick up tomorrow”
In the opposite plush leather armchair, a blonde girl blinks herself awake. Only a round, soft face is visible beneath a warm-knit blanket that cocoons her against the chair like a fly in a spider’s web.
“But Mr. Richard we were ju-u-u-st getting to the good part” Though she pouts her lip, tilting her head slightly with wide eyes to get her way, a yawn betrays her own exhaustion.
“We can continue tomorrow, Juliet. I know you’ve memorized it already anyways. Now why don’t you run along to bed, pet? I’ve had Anita put on the heavy down comforter, we don’t want you catching another cold. I’ll be up in a minute” The man’s blue eyes drift fondly to the girl, snuggled close by the fire.
Outside the window, soft snowfall signaled the coming of winter for his mountain home. He’d originally intended for them to seek warmer weather, perhaps in the villa in Italy. It was better for Juliet’s health, but seeing the girl enjoy winter was something they’d been unable to do for a while. With luck, she’d stay healthy enough they could enjoy it for a little longer.
“Yes, Mr. Richard. Goodnight” With a tired smile, she wraps the overly large blanket around herself like a cloak, looking all the part a child playing dress-up. Warm lips press to the top of his white-haired head, small arms gently embracing him as well as they could from behind the large chair. With practiced ease, he rubs a warm circle on the back of one slender hand, eliciting a slight purr from the girl. And then she was gone, drifting through the house in her makeshift white cloak like a ghost.
Richard Ward sat for a minute enjoying the fire. He was a lucky man. To have such a wonderful pet, who, while frail, enjoyed every moment of his presence. Who was devoted to every caring touch. The hours of reading to her in fevered delirium, to wheeling her in the garden when her legs refused to work, to petting her head softly when pain made sleep impossible.
Richard Ward had learned to cherish the bad and the good in life. In business he’d learned to find opportunity in every situation. Unfortunately, it took the death of his own son for him to take that moment into his personal life. But now, with Juliet, he cherished the times in health as well as sickness.
Now, he lived for every moment, every pain and pleasure, intertwined. With the fortune he’d amassed he could do right by his Juliet, by the world. He’d take care of Juliet forever, tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow as the Bard said.
But first, he had to wait for tomorrow, and Richard Ward didn’t think five more minutes by the fire could hurt its pace.
So he closed his eyes, enjoying the warmth of fire, happiness, and family, content with his life.
And woke no more.
----
In the middle of the night, some phantom pain bolts Juliet upright, covered in her own sweat. The blood of her heart pounds hot in her ears. Nightmares of fear and pain were common in her life, but so was their instant remedy: Mr. Richard.
So wrapped in the same blanket as earlier, she pads down the hall, letting the warm glow of lights made to look like flickering candles illuminate her way.
“M-mr. Richard?” Her eyes feel wet with automatic tears, lip and voice trembling with an unpracticed, inherent ease. Enough to show fear, but not enough to look ugly. She knew she looked ugly when she cried.
The old oak door to his room creaks open, revealing the same soft flickering light by an empty four-poster bed. With a sigh, fear almost forgotten, she heads for the grand stairs, back to the drawing room. Her silly old man had probably fallen asleep in his chair again. But that was alright.
Maybe if she was good, if she made up a convincing nightmare, he’d keep reading to her until she fell asleep. Would rub the sore spots she could never tell if were real or imagined any more. The mere thought brought a smile to her face, a quick pace to her light steps.
But when she entered the room, she found no warmth. The fire had died out into crumbling embers, letting a chill in through the chimney. Yet even its breeze that threatened to freeze her bones didn’t seem to be able to move the suffocating stillness. She felt it creep into her veins, wrong, as she fearfully walked over to Mr. Richard, sat still in the chair facing the only dying light.
But her eyes softened to see his sleeping face, book open in his lap with eyeglasses set in the spine. The moonlight highlighted his pale, wrinkled face, but it was one she loved. One that took care of her, no matter how much trouble she was.
Gently she placed a kiss to his forehead to wake him, already imagining his warm touch on her aching limbs-
Only to be met with the same ice in her veins. With the same stillness that threatened to stop her chest.
“M-Mr. Richard?” She wobbled out, voice honest, not practiced. Truly imperfect, instead of perfectedly so.
But his body didn’t move.
So she touched his shoulder. And then grabbed it. And then shook it.
But his body didn’t move.
Juliet felt her breath come in small gasps, like when she was sick. But she wasn’t sick, was she? Was this a bad dream? No. Because Mr. Richard woke her from bad dreams but now he wouldn’t wake up.
No, she just couldn’t wake him, because everything was fine. When everything was fine, Mr. Richard was sad, a kind of slow sad where the world felt too perfectly wrong, too boring. So she just had to make it wrong to make everything perfect again.
So Juliet did what she’d been trained to do. She reached for the book, for the crisp page, and quickly slid her finger along it until sharp pain and blood dripped warmly from the edge.
A whimper from her throat, and she held the wrist as more and more blood, impossibly warm from how cold she felt ran almost black in the barely light down her wrist.
“Mr. Richard, I cut myself, c-can you kiss it better?” Honey voiced, thick, almost saccharine but something felt wrong. Everything felt wrong, her voice couldn’t be right.
But his body didn’t move.
So she pressed the bloodied finger to his lips, even as touching them threatened a shiver through her body.
“See Mr. Richard? It hurts”
But his body didn’t move.
With a whimper, she tried to think. Why wasn’t it working? He always came when she was hurt.
But sometimes, if it wasn’t enough, he didn’t come.
Quickly, Juliet crossed to the small table for Mr. Richard’s drinks, grabbing the small knife he used to make the pretty orange twists she liked in hers.
Back in front of it, in front of the still closed eyelids, she slid the knife along her palm, flinching with practice at too familiar pain. Making the high, pained sound, that one she never knew if was real or not anymore.
His body didn’t move.
Juliet felt tears, real tears prick at her eyes. Why wasn’t it good enough? Why wouldn’t he help her?
She did everything right so he’d help her, so she’d get the caring touches. Like they’d taught her at the Facility. When she was sick in winter, she’d walk outside at night without clothes to stay sick.
She’d rub dirt in wounds. She’d trip down stairs, she’d slam her hand in doors, she’d burn herself on the oven.
And when Mr. Richard was bored with what she could try, he often helped her. Because sometimes he’d give her medicine and she’d wake up and couldn’t move her legs for days. Sometimes she’d feel sick to her stomach from a drink he’d give her, until she puked for hours.
That’s it. He just wanted her to try harder. To be a good girl and go back to doing it all herself. She had to earn his caring touch. And Juliet could do that.
Determined, she climbed the two-story staircase in the entrance hall, heart thumping. This would work, and Mr. Richard would wake up, and he’d take care of her. He’d hand feed her soup again, and gently brush her hair. He’d read her Shakespeare until she fell asleep, and bring treats from his business partners who wished her a speedy recovery. Everything would be fine.
So why was she crying?
With tears in her eyes, Juliet climbed the barrister, staring down at the black marble floor far below, almost swallowed in darkness. The blanket fell to the floor, a pile like pale bones in a pit.
She pushed off, and her world exploded into painful darkness as the scream was ripped from her throat.
--
‘Anita’ wasn’t sure how much of this she could take. Richard Ward was on the board of WRU, and she was so, so, so close to figuring out where the sick old man kept some of the emails, the dealings, the proof of WRU’s real workings. With his tech empire, they suspected Ward helped them target potential ‘candidates’. Helped them recruit and hire handlers with the appropriate mentality off the dark web. It was enough potential dirt for them to make real progress in the Pet-Lib movement. If only she could figure out where he kept it.
And it’d been an easy enough job. A boring one, honestly, as she cleaned the house under the flimsy false identity of an illegal immigrant the man had barely bothered to check. She even got enough money to live on and give a fat check to the safe houses from it, damn rich bastard.
But she was ready to tell them, tell Tara, she couldn’t do it anymore. Couldn’t watch this fucker and his pet, whatever he’d made the poor girl into.
At first, she’d thought it was true, that he’d just gotten some pet with a lot of health issues.
But then she’d seen the girl purposefully trip, break fingers, grab a burning hot plate straight from the oven. Seen her do those things without wincing and then let the tears fall so perfectly. Fall into his touch, the touch and care that made the old man beam.
She’d even found the goddamn name for it. Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy. Pleasure at taking care of someone so much that you cause them pain, make them to get sick, just to make them better yourself.
Richard Ward ordered a pet that would hurt itself for his touch, for his care. They’d turned a girl into some sick pain robot, and Mia didn’t even want to think how. She could barely watch now, wondering how he manufactured the illness and pain Juliet took with thankful smile, for the chance that he’d be kind.
Figures there’d be someone somehow as fucked up as Karen Renford in WRU.
So yeah, Mia was ready to quit being ‘Anita’, because even if she knew what she was doing could help kids from not becoming like Juliet, she wasn’t sure how much she could take watching.
It was with this thought that Mia started and ended each day, determined to quit the day after tomorrow if she couldn’t find the files.
Unlocking the door, Mia felt the similar tug of dread, ran through the same conversation Tara had taught her to help her get through when these undercover missions were hard. When she couldn’t just grab a pet and run like she wanted.
But something felt...off. ‘Anita’ was always first to arrive, to open the obscene curtains, to transform the vintage fashioned home from night to day. She was used to the entrance being cold, the fires being out. Weird guy also had a fetish for the life of antiquity, but Anita had gotten used to it. But today, the coldness seemed to seep into her bones.
Probably should’ve just brought another sweater she thought as she walked through the service entrance, opening curtains as she went.
Kitchen, dining room, tea room, sitting room. It was actually pretty satisfying to watch the light suddenly dance in, dim streaks through trees in the early morning.
Or at least it was until she saw it fall on the body of Richard Ward, causing her to jump back, nearly knocking over probably worth more than she’d make in her entire life.
“Oh, Mr. Ward! I didn’t see you there.” Her heart threatened to flutter out of her chest, so much so that she’d almost forgotten her ‘accent’. She hoped he wouldn’t notice.
But there was no response.
Cautiously, Mia walked over, touching the old man’s shoulder to gently wake him.
It was stiff, cold. Dead.
The fucker was dead. Pale as a ghost except for the tiny smear of dried blood on his face.
The same dried, dark brown blood that was dripped over his body, onto the book, onto the carpet, on the table holding the bar cart’s knife coated in the same. Dried blood.
Quietly, Mia picked up the knife, the only weapon in reach. Nothing else was out of place, and as much as she wished it was, the blood didn’t seem to be Ward’s.
She tiptoed out of the room, following the dripped and dried bloody path into the entrance way. By the ridiculously ostentatious staircase, under the overhang, was a small...lump. Squinting her eyes in the dim entrance way, Mia could make out what looked like an slender arm, a head of blonde-
f u c k, fuck fuckFuckFUCK
The hardest thing about this job had been keeping her potty mouth to herself and playing the part of some Downton Abbey-esque servant in keeping with the man’s antiquated tastes. But upon seeing the small body, twisted at odd angles beneath the second floor overhang, her gut told her this job deserved every version of fuck imaginable.
Scrambling over to the small girl Mia knelt down, hands shaking as she felt around the throat for a pulse that wasn’t the one banging in her ears. It took a minute of pressing, of forcing herself to breathe dammit before she found it, weak, but definitely there.
Gently, so gently so as to not jostle her neck or head, Mia stroked a hand over Juliet’s brow, the way she’d seen Ward do countless times when the girl was sick. Mia tried to stop trembling, to stop thinking about how maybe if she’d told Tara about Ward, about his taste in pets, they would’ve focused on rescuing Juliet instead.
If Mia hadn’t been determined to hide the real Ward so they could have their cake and eat it too.
“C’mon baby girl, wake up for me. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, please, fuck, please wake up” The words fell, soft and pleading from her lips.
Hazy blue-grey eyes blinked up at her, slow, glassy with pain. The body attempted to shift, only to whimper with pain, real pain. Not the fake whimper Mia had learned, but something deep and animalistic in her throat that reminded Mia more of a street dog than a person.
“There you are. It’s ok, you’re ok” She tried to keep her voice calm, gentle. To not let her hand shake as she thanked whatever god there was in this fucked up world that the girl hadn’t lost too much blood, hadn’t completely cracked her head open, even if her legs looked like snapped twigs.
After a few moments of mumbled words met by calm shushing noises from Mia, Juliet finally strangled out “‘Nita, why din’t Mr. Richard wake up?”
Mia paused, upon hearing the slurred, pained words. This wasn’t an accident. Juliet had done this to wake him up. Because the man had a second-sense for any pain in his vicinity. Even if he was a demon, not even the call of his previous pet’s pain was enough to bring his sadistic ass back from hell. Thank God.
A whimper, and Mia was immediately pulled back from her thoughts, petting the girl’s head. Because it didn’t matter where that sick fuck was. He was dead, Mia hadn’t found out where he kept his things, and she had only a few hours before other servants got here. Only a few hours to do something right on this mission.
“Shh, it’s ok. I’m gonna get you help ok? You’re gonna be ok”
Reaching into her uniform, Mia groped for the burner phone constantly pressed against her chest. At least bras were useful for hiding things, as much as she hated them. She breathed through her nose, steadying her breath and hoping questions could wait as she pressed the number.
“Tara? Yeah, I need an evac for me and a pet at Ward’s yesterday.”
Because this was Mia’s fault, because she waited for tomorrow’s petty pace to paint her a yesterday lighted fool.

It was dawning on me that I hadn’t fully thought this through.
This whole “having friends” thing.
There were so many factors I hadn’t even considered. Like, once you’ve made a new friend…
...what the frick are you supposed to do with them?
One would think I’d have this figured out by now. After all, I was friends with Rayne, wasn’t I? But Rayne was different. There hadn’t really been much to think about there, we’d just sorta clicked. Besides, we’d met when we were children - a time when the hot topics to talk about had been our favorite toys to play with or which of the boys had cooties or our latest masterpieces made during Arts and Crafts time involving gluing popsicle sticks and sequins to pine cones. You know, kid stuff.
But now I was an adult. An adult who had just made new adult friends who probably expected adult conversations.
And unfortunately I just didn’t think cooties and sequins were going to cut it anymore.
Which is why I could now be found on this fine Friday afternoon shift at the Ice Palace having borrowed Kristoff’s phone, making use of the current lull in customer traffic to carry out some important research. And how, one might wonder, was this important research being gathered?
By googling the phrase “how to friendship.”
Genius, I know.
Thousands of articles and tutorials had come back in the search results, not all of them useful, but I’d landed on a couple that could maybe help a little bit. I gnawed on my lower lip as my eyes quickly scanned over the words. Then with a nod, I used a pen to transcribe the cliff notes version over to my palm, adding on to the ever growing list of useful tidbits that could now be found there.
Call it my Chit-Chat Cheat Sheet. That’s right, folks, you’re witnessing a crucial life hack in the making. This handy-dandy little list was going to be my one-stop shop to social butterfly success. Look out, new pals of mine, you were about to be friended so hard. I was going to friend your butts off! This was-
“Hey, I also like to doodle on my hand whenever I’m bored outta m-”
With a half gasp, half yelp, I jolted up straight, wide eyes discovering Lea now standing on the other side of the counter from me. He brought up his hands, “Woah now, sorry! Didn’t mean to scare you.”
My own hand flew up to cover my pounding heart as I breathed out and shook my head. “No. No, it’s fine, I should’ve been paying more-” My fingers flexed, closing around empty air. My brow furrowed. “Wait…” Where did my-? Did I drop it? “...I had a pen.”
It suddenly blurred down from up above to crash land into the countertop, making us both flinch and jerk back slightly.
Oh. Heh. There it was.
“Sorry about that,” I gave a weak laugh, retrieving the writing implement and giving it a little waggle as I held it up. “I… guess I still got a few kinks to work out before I can successfully launch the first unmanned pencraft into orbit.”
...wow, did that stupid joke really just come out of me?
Must. Resist. Urge. To. Wince.
The corners of his eyes crinkled. “Might I suggest waiting for a day when the weather forecast reports zero chance of ceiling?” he pointed up.
I nodded, “Good note. Excellent observation. Prime example of one of my kinks.” I blanched, then hastily stammered, “I mean the… one of the kinks that, uh, needs to be, er… worked... out.”
Ugh, what’s wrong with me? Why am I like this?
This is why I needed the list.
...crud! The list! My eyes darted to my palm where it was scrawled in plain view for all the world to bear witness. Then my gaze flicked to Lea, looking at me with an eyebrow cocked and one side of his lips turned up. Then I balled my fist and jammed it behind my back.
Had he seen?
He mustn’t know about my secret hacks!
That’s when I spotted it. Kristoff’s phone. Still on the counter between us. Still open to the WikiHow I’d been taking notes from. My other hand shot out and swatted the device away, sending it slamming into the wall on my right before clattering to the ground.
Oopsie. Sorry Kristoff!
Luckily he was currently out and about taking his ten. He’d never have to know. This could just be our little secret between the phone and me.
“Shit, what’d that poor thing ever do to you?”
...rather, between the phone, me, and Lea.
What had it done to me, he asks? It’d tried to rat me out, that’s what!
My eyes darted to one side. “...let’s just say the crime fits the punishment.”
Snitches get stitches.
He glanced to where the abused phone still lay abandoned on the tiled floor, then snorted and crossed his arms with a shake of his head, “If you say so.”
Alright, so this exchange so far? Could be going better. Not exactly textbook. Lot of room for improvement. But that was okay because (ba-dum ba-dum!) Chit-Chat Cheat Sheet to the rescue! It could salvage any social catastrophe! Let’s just watch it work its magic, shall we?
I shifted to bring my hand out in front of me once more, casually resting my palm face down against the countertop. Then I lifted it just barely enough to furtively peek at the first couple lines I’d written there.
Start with a warm, friendly greeting. Examples include…
I locked eyes with him. “Whassup.”
He blinked. “Um… hi?”
Nailed it.
Alright, now that a proper line of communication had officially been established in the most cordial manner, on to the next step: small talk. After sneaking another quick look at my notes, I pressed my hand back down again and recited the words I’d just glanced at, “So nice weather we’re having, huh? At least it’s not raining like last week.”
This list was a god send. Pure gold.
He squinted upward, scratching the back of his head. “Hasn’t it been sunny for months now?”
...fudge.
Abort, captain, abort! The first one was a dud! Quickly, lock and load the second one and fire!
I anxiously checked my palm again and latched onto the next line, reading out, “That’s an awesome shirt you’re wearing!”
He frowned down at it, eyebrows knitting together. “You mean my work polo? Not… really, but okay.”
Aaaaaaaand another swing and a miss!
Oh wise and powerful Chit-Chat Cheatsheet, why hast thou forsaken me here, now, in my greatest hour of need? Me, your most devout and faithful of followers? Me, who loved and worshipped you so?
Feeling my panic spiking, I looked to my hand again to find one more line I had yet to try. One final chance for salvation. This was it. My ace in the hole. List, don’t fail me now!
Desperate, I didn’t even register the words as my eyes snatched them from my palm, handed them off to my brain that then shoved them down the pipeline to my mouth which proceeded to blurt out verbatim, “So what do you do in your flamingo?”
...the list had failed me.
“I’m sorry, what does who do in the what and where now?”
And we’re talking like… epic failure.
I was just now realizing this was the one I’d been in the middle of jotting down when Lea had startled me. So chances were good that that sloppy mess of a scribble at the end of the sentence? Wasn’t actually the word flamingo.
At least, I hoped it wasn’t.
Whatever. I give up.
Puffing out a sigh as I pinched the bridge of my nose, I muttered, “You know what, forget it. I’m just… having a bit of a malfunction. One of those days, I guess.”
“Oh,” he chuckled, “no worries! Those come up all the time working customer service, so I totally get it.”
This guy was too nice. Here I was, spouting off nonsense like a gibbering baboon and he was just brushing it off like it was no big deal. Like it was an everyday occurrence for a person to ask him if he did lord only knows what to a neon pink bird. I should get on with assisting him with whatever he’d come over here for. It was the least I could do in exchange for him putting up with the trainwreck that was me. Taking a deep breath and putting on a smile, I asked, “So what can I help you with today?”
He returned the smile, “Take a wild guess.”
I glanced around my work space. “Ice cream?”
“Got it in one,” his thumb went up. “I’m a total addict by the way, so you’ll be seeing a lot of me.”
“I’m sure your dentist says the same thing,” I deadpanned, pressing my finger to a button on the cash register. “Sea Salt, right?”
“You’re on a roll today!”
My grin twitched wider. He was so much better at this small talk thing than me. “How would you like it?”
“I like my ice cream like I like my women: swirly and in a waffle cone,” he winked, tossing out some finger guns.
...I take that back, this dork was just as clueless as I was. Had to be if he thought that was funny.
I merely arched an eyebrow at him as the silence stretched. Then he pouted, “Aw c’mon, kid, these are the jokes! Don’t leave me hanging here.”
I snorted, tapping a couple more keys on the register. “Sorry. It’s just that after the other day, I would have thought your answer would’ve been more along the lines of ‘frozen solid and on a stick.’”
“Oo, dirty,” he chirped, his eyebrows bouncing.
Welp. That’d teach me for trying to play along.
“But no,” he waved off, “that was more out of necessity. Only the ice cream bars can survive the long trip up the clocktower without melting first. Otherwise, give me creamy, fluffy, and with a twist any day!”
“Duly noted. Just a sec.” I turned, plucking one of the cones off the top of the stack as I walked past, approaching the soft serve/milkshake machine.
Ah, my old nemesis. We meet again. One could almost hear the Old West face-off tune whistling in the background. But thankfully, there would be no drawing of pistols this day.
I liked to think there was a grudging, mutual respect between us now.
Being super mindful of the Anger Button, I switched it to the appropriate flavor and pulled down on the lever. As I moved the cone in small circles while it slowly filled with blue, sugary goop, I heard Lea ask, “Snow Bear?”
I looked back at him, a crease forming between my eyebrows as I tipped my head to one side.
...what’d he just call me?
He was hunched forward now, elbow on the countertop and chin propped in hand, fingers drumming against his cheek as he squinted at me with a frown. Then shook his head, “Nah, too healthy, even for a goody-goody like you. Tofu has no business being anywhere near ice cream.”
Then it clicked. Snow Bear was one of the flavors we offered.
“Big Bad Pete?” he pursed his lips to one side, then crinkled his nose. “Nope. Too nutty. Thinking you like a crunch, just not that kind.”
I returned my attention to the machine, making sure the cone wasn’t too top heavy. “Are you… trying to guess the type of ice cream I like?”
“Yup! Since Sea Salt clearly wasn’t your thing.”
“I wouldn’t necessarily say that.” I released the lever, completing the stacking spiral with a nice little curl at the top and turning to face him once more. “But it is… shall we say, an acquired taste?”
Lea smirked and scoffed, “Blasphemy! Don’t worry though, I wont judge you too harshly for your dirty, heathen tastes.”
“You’re too kind,” I rolled my eyes as I handed him his purchase.
Taking it in one hand, he used the other to give me the munny due. “Consider it my one good deed for the century. It’s a doozy though. I’m expecting my sainthood any day now.” He then lapped off a big blue chunk as he eyed me thoughtfully. “Donald Fizz maybe?” Then he pulled a face with another shake of his head, “Nu uh, too close to Sea Salt.”
“If you really want to know that badly, it’s-”
“Buh buh buh,” he pressed a finger to my lips, cutting me off. “Yeesh, don’t spoil my fun like that, let me guess! This is like my mutant power, I can always tell a person’s fave ice cream.” He narrowed his eyes on me as he took another bite, licking some of it off from the corner of his mouth. “You’re a tough read though. Gonna need more time, gather more intel.” A grin broke out again, “But I do oh so love a challenge.” Then he snapped his fingers, “What about-”
“Elsa?!”
My blood ran cold at the voice that cried out from across the food court.
A very, very familiar voice.
One I had not expected to hear again for a while yet and certainly not here, at the Dusk Town Center mall, at my sanctuary of all places.
Lea glanced over his shoulder, looking for who’d interrupted him before yelping and leaping out of the way so as not to become roadkill to an auburn and blue blur zooming straight for me. It crashed up against the other side of the counter, lashed its limbs out over the top and seized me in its vice-like grip, yanking me forward into a bone-crushing embrace and squeezing the absolute life out of me as it once more shouted, “Elsa! I found you! At last, I found you!”
Or rather… not it, but her.
Anna Fryse.
My sister.
...who, as I was just now discovering, might also be part boa constrictor. Good lord, this girl did not know her own strength!
“Anna,” I wheezed, feebly patting at her elbow. An extraordinary feat, given that her bear hug was practically super gluing my arms to my sides. “Can’t. Breathe.”
“You’re okay! I was so worried! I thought you might be hurt or trapped or drugged or kidnapped or amnesiad or dead or, or, or- but you’re not! You’re really, really not! You’re alive!”
“Won’t be for much longer if you don’t let go,” I croaked out, starting to see spots. Finally she released me and I gasped for breath. Ah, oxygen. Beautiful, life giving oxygen. I coughed, “Did you seriously just use ‘amnesia’ as a verb?”
Completely ignoring my question, her hands still grasped tightly at my shoulders as sharp, blue eyes set in a freckled face looked me over. Her red hair was done in pigtail braids and she was in a dark cobalt sundress with a black bodice.
Then she opened her mouth.
“Woah, Elsa! You look different! It’s a good different! I love everything about it!” She grabbed me by the cheeks, “Your face, the outfit, that hat - oh gosh, that hat! I never thought I’d see you in a friggin’ baseball cap! It’s too friggin’ cute! And a ponytail! How many times have I said you’d look totes adorbs in a ponytail, and you know what? Told you so! And- oh. My. Gawd!” She bellyflopped onto the countertop, pointing down, “I just saw the mini skirt! Friggin’ you! In a friggin’ mini skirt! Damn girl, you hawt!” She fell back onto her feet once more, looking up at our sign, “And this place! What is this place? This place is amazing! Do you work here? Please, please, please tell me you work here! Oh my gawd, you do! You have a friggin’ job! What do you do? How much do you make? Do you pay taxes? Do you pay rent? Do you have a 401k? What is a 401k?” She pointed at an ice cream spade, “What’s this thingie do?” Next at the soft serve/milkshake machine, “How does that work?” Up at a dangling Sven plushie. “What’s up with all the friggin’ deers?” Then at Lea standing off to one side, slowly eating his ice cream and watching on with one curious eyebrow quirked. “Who’s the hottie with a body?” She started to wave, calling out, “Hello, Mr Hottie-With-A-Bo-”
“Anna!” I hissed, cheeks roasting as I snatched her hand back down. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted Lea returning her wave with a tiny one of his own, to which I shot him a dull stare. He just grinned and shrugged. Shaking my head, I asked him, “Could you, uh… would you mind giving us a minute alone? Please?”
“Sure, no problem. I should be getting back to work anyhow. Laters, El!”
...El? Who’s El?
“Nice meeting ya, El’s friend!” he gave a two finger salute to Anna with a wink before sauntering off.
Huh. Guess that’d make me El. I’d earned a nickname. Had our friendship leveled up? Wow, I was so good at this friends thing! Without even understanding it, I had somehow already mastered it.
Bravo, me!
Anna watched him go, then turned back to me with a low whistle. “Okay, seriously, who was the sexpot and please, for the love that is all that is good and foxy, tell me you are tapping that.”
“Oh my god, Anna!” I facepalmed. I wasn’t going to dignify that with a response. “What are you even doing here?”
“I told you already, I was worried!”
My forehead wrinkled. “But you knew I wasn’t abducted or anything, you were the one who helped me run away. Besides, didn’t you receive my text telling you I was okay?”
“Yes, weeks after you disappeared!” She smacked me in the arm with a glare. “You could have contacted me sooner, brat! And what the frick was up with your stupid text?!”
“Stupid...? What was wrong with it?”
“I’m fine, don’t worry, don’t come looking for me,” she flatly recited the words from my message before looking away with a huff. “Please, have you never seen any kidnap movie in the history of like friggin’ ever? That’s like classic code for ‘help me, help me, I’ve been taken hostage and am being forced to tell you these things under duress.’”
“Ugh, the way your mind works,” I grumbled, massaging one temple. “How did you even find me anyway?”
Anna snorted. “What, you think just cuz you blocked my number that I wouldn’t be able to track you down? Sis, please, we live in the golden age of technology. Trust me, I have my ways. There’s a lot a girl can do with just a phone number and this little thing called the internet.”
I opened my mouth to retort, but then froze with a gasp as another thought struck me and nearly stopped my heart. My eyes darted about, searching the food court while I fidgeted with my fingers. “Wait… oh god, does… do Mother and Father… do they know? Are they also here? Did you tell-”
She gently shushed me, reaching over the countertop to rub my arm. “Sis, Sis, it’s okay, they’re not here, don’t stress! I did tell them I got the text from you so they’d know you’re okay, but I didn’t tell them I’d figured out where you were. They don’t know that I came here looking for you. You don’t have to talk to them until you’re ready.”
“Oh thank god,” I sighed, slumping against the counter. That… was a talk I was in no way prepared for. Not just yet. I gnawed on my lower lip for a second, glancing back up at Anna. “What about-”
“He’s fine too,” she said softly.
I frowned. “...really?”
Her face pinched into a tiny grimace. “I mean, he’s not great. He got dumped at the altar, what do you think? But he’s a big boy, he’ll survive.”
Well that was a load off my mind.
Not.
“Ugh, I feel terrible,” I buried my face in my hands. Then I peeked out between my fingers at her. “Could you… I don’t know… maybe do damage control with him for me or something?”
“Was already on it,” she beamed with a thumbs up. “But enough about all that, gah, so friggin’ depressing! I wanna hear more about you and your new life and this whole job thing and that redheaded Hunky McHunkface and all that’s happened to you since you flew the coop! Tell me everything!”
A tiny smile crept up onto my lips. I knew I’d been missing my little sister, but it was only in that moment... seeing her here in front of me, hearing her voice again... that I was realizing just how much. “I’d actually really like that. But uh…” I looked past her, noticing more shoppers wondering about amongst those tables out there now than there had been just moments ago, with even more trickling in by the second. “Looks like we’re about to get our afternoon rush, so it’s not really the best time.”
Anna tapped her chin with a low hum before her face lit back up. “Are you free tonight?”
My head tilted to the left. “I’m working closing, but I should be out of here by nine I think.”
“Perfect! Let’s do dinner! Then we can properly celebrate your new found freedom as you tell me all about it! Whaddya say? Pleeeeease?” Puppy dog eyes initiated.
I laughed and nodded. “Yeah, okay. That sounds nice.”
“Yay!” she bounced on her heels, rapidly clapping her hands together with a tiny squeal. “Ahhhh! Can’t wait! Okay, you said nine, right? Right! I’ll be waiting in my car right outside those doors over there, got it? Good! I’ll leave you to it then!” Then she was snatching me into another hug over the countertop and planting a kiss on my cheek with a loud mwah! “Love ya, Sis! See you then!”
And just like that, Typhoon Anna whooshed off once again, disappearing into the ever growing crowd.
Not a second later, I heard the door open behind me. “Hey, I’m back, sorry it ran a little long, I- hey, why’s my phone on the floor?”
I winced.
Heh… woops.
One tiny detail may have slipped my mind in all the mayhem that had been the last ten minutes.
I turned to see Kristoff stooping down to pick it up before he graced me with a scowl. I chuckled sheepishly, “So… funny story…”
I got the feeling Kristoff hadn’t found my story all that amusing.
Don’t think he’d found it particularly believable either.
Not sure why. I mean, wasn’t it totally plausible that a strong gust of wind had blasted through the entire mall, causing one of the bigger reindeer dolls to fly off its hook and rocket straight into my hands, knocking his phone free from my grasp and sending it slamming into a wall where I had then left it for fear that moving it could cause more damage and trauma to the poor little device that had already been through so much?
No? Not plausible? Not even remotely or in the slightest?
Drat.
I'd never really been good at the whole lying thing.
But it'd been the best I could come up with on the spot. I mean, I wasn’t about to tell him the truth about how I was a total, pathetic dunce when it came to making friends which in turn caused me to do idiotic things like fling other’s people’s fragile property at hard surfaces.
In any case, Kristoff and I were currently not on speaking terms.
At least, I’m pretty sure we weren’t. That was my best guess anyway, given he hadn’t spoken two words to me since I’d spun my little tale.
Eh, he’d get over it.
A couple hours of the silent treatment later and he’d clocked out without so much as a goodbye. Then a few more hours brought me to the here and now of closing time. I was almost done wrapping everything up, just needed to finish wiping down all the surfaces. Having already ensured the inside of the little shop was pristine, I’d stepped out to be on the food court side of the counter, using a cloth to remove any fingerprints and other smudges that’d been left by customers on the display glass.
As I finished cleaning the last of it, I exhaled heavily and straightened up, planting my hands on my hips as I inspected my work. Nodding in approval at a job well done, I then looked to the clock on the wall to see that it was a quarter to nine. Perfect. Plenty of time to grab my things and lock up before heading out to meet Anna. Stretching my back to loosen some of the stiffness that had settled in there, I then took a quick glance over my shoulder.
It really should come as a shock to no one at this point that Lea could once again be spotted across the way from me. I was beginning to think the people in charge of scheduling our shifts met up for weekly tea and crumpets or something while they made sure the hours the two of us worked almost always lined up exactly. What nefarious scheme was being cooked up by the upper management of our two separate companies? What could they possibly hope to gain by it? Only time would tell.
In any case, he too looked to be almost done with all of his closing tasks. He was currently out in the food court area as well, using a broom to sweep up the area in front of Pizza Planet. Or so I’m sure the intent had been.
Except... he wasn’t really so much in front of the pizzeria as he was on top of one of the tables.
And it wasn’t so much a broom as it was an impromptu mic.
And he wasn’t so much sweeping as he was in his own little world, enthusiastically lip-syncing and dancing away to the song blasting out of his phone in the back pocket of his pants. I Believe In A Thing Called Love by the Darkness, if the wild electric guitar, high falsetto vocals, and cheesy lyrics were anything to go off of.
Wow, he really was a complete dork.
A splutter of a laugh burst out of me before I was able to clamp both my hands over my mouth in a vain effort to stop it.
I’m not sure how he heard me over all that explosive glam rock, but it seemed he did somehow for his head suddenly jerked in my direction. Then he beamed and started hopping across all the tabletops towards me. That couldn’t be sanitary. His feet at last touched ground in front of the Ice Palace as he crouched low before springing back up into a half-turn, landing himself in a seat atop the counter right between the ice cream display case and a cash register.
Still directing that ear-to-ear smile my way, he pulled his phone out long enough to hit pause on his music. “So whadja think? Do I put on one hell of a show or what?”
Oh dear. Not only a dork but no shame to boot. A deadly combo, that.
I snorted, eyes on the glass once more as I went back to scrubbing it for the now nonexistent spots. “For sure. You should hurry up and get on becoming a bigtime rock star already.”
Broom balanced on the floor between his knees, he folded his hands over the handle point and rested his chin on his knuckles. “Nah, all that fame and fortune I’m guaranteed to get cuz I’m so loveable, awesome, amazing and cool would go straight to my head.”
I bit back a grin. “Because you’re so modest now.”
“Oh yeah, I’m humble as fuck!” he declared brightly. Then he shrugged and sighed, “Guess I’m just kinda perfection that way.”
My eyelids drooped. “...clearly.”
“So,” he lifted his head off its perch, freeing up one hand to scratch behind his ear, “everything okay? Between you and your sister, I mean.”
I looked at him, blinking a couple times. “How’d you know she‘s my sister?”
“You two got the same nose,” he smirked, tapping a finger to the side of his. “But seriously, you all good? She seemed pretty frantic.”
“Oh, that’s just Anna for you. The Looney Toons Tasmanian Devil personified. Pretty sure she doesn’t even know the meaning of the word ‘calm.’ But no, she’s fine. We’re good.”
“Glad to hear it!” A pause. “So…” he said again, this time stretching the word out as he bounced the broom handle back and forth between his palms now. “...you eat, right?”
Hand still absently running the cloth along the glass, I raised an eyebrow at him. What kind of question was that? “...I have been known to on occasion, yes.”
“Good. Any dinner plans tonight?”
I froze, eyes round.
Oh.
...was he asking what I think he was asking? I think he was asking what I think he was asking. Why would he ask that?! Wait... oh no… did he think that I was thinking that he should ask what I think he was asking? Because if that’s what he thought I was thinking, I most certainly was not thinking that! Not even close! Unless… did this here right now count as me thinking that?
...hold up, now I’m confused... what was I thinking again?
Oh that’s right.
I was thinking about him.
Asking.
Me.
Out.
Which I was so not ready for! I mean come on, I had just gotten out of a long term relationship! What was that rule? The one about how long after a breakup before you should start dating again? Something about waiting at least thirty minutes before getting back in the -
Wait no, that had to do with eating and pools…
Whatever, gah! However much time it’s supposed to be, pretty sure it’s more than just a few weeks if you’d not only been together for years, but also frigging engaged to your ex!
Current relationship status aside, let’s just be real here... I’m not sure if this was something I would ever be ready for. Hello, Mayor of Hermit Island here! They throw hermit parades in my honor. Those parades have zero spectators and consist of one (1) person marching, that person being me, all alone, by myself, because it’s Hermit Island and kind of the whole point! It was sort of a miracle I’d ever started dating in the first place, much less wound up with a fiancé of all things! When you think about it, and I mean really think about it… how the frick had that even happened?! I’d been there, heck, I’d lived it and even I was still scratching my head over that one. I mean, how had I ever-
“Hey now, what’s with the-?” Lea’s words broke me out of the word jumble that was my brain and my eyes darted over to him. His furrowed brow suddenly went slack and he blinked, heading rocking back. “Hold on, you don’t think that I- That I’m asking you out on a- No! God no! No, no, no, that’s not what this is!”
Oh thank goodness!
Wait… how did he know that’s what I’d been thinking?
...could it be the fact that all the color had drained from my face and I had stopped breathing?
Speaking of which, I should really start that back up again.
Okay, all together now, one, two, three annnnnd sharp, deep inhale.
Whew, much better! Man, oxygen and I were having a real on-again, off-again relationship today.
“Not that there’s anything wrong with y- I mean, I wouldn’t be opposed to- that is, uh… aw, crap,” he groaned, bonking his head against the top of the broom handle. “Forget it. Look, what I was trying to say was we - that is, the kiddos and I and a buncha other people who work at other stores 'round the mall, all of us get together every Friday night for food and drinks at the 7th Heaven. It’s this nice little pub not too far from here and I dunno if booze is your thing or what, but the grub’s pretty good there too, way better than your average bar food and so I was just wondering if you’d like to, I dunno… come join us and just hang out for a bit, have some fun. Interested?”
Ooooooooooh, got it! Well that was a relief!
...wait, was it?
Oh dear, just the thought of me having to interact with that many people all at the same time was enough to make my soul leave my body. Because once again, I have to play the President of Hermit Island card here. That’s right, I’d promoted myself from mayor to president within the last five minutes. I like to think I’d earned it after all my years of exemplary hermit service.
The point was, this little get-together sounded precisely like the kind of situation that I wanted to be on the polar opposite end of the planet from. Seriously, the Devil himself could not have designed a more fitting hell for me. Don’t get me wrong, it was sweet that Lea had thought to include me and I’m sure all the other people going would be nice and everything, but... I just couldn’t. I couldn’t do it. Not with the cold, stabbing pangs of anxiety already coursing throughout my chest at even the mere mention of going to such a thing.
Luckily, I didn’t have to. I had an out. A beautiful, glorious escape route courtesy of the one, the only, my savior (queue angelic choir singing)... Anna.
Clearing my throat, I managed a small smile. “Thank you, I appreciate the invite, I really do and I’m so sorry but I’ve already made plans with my sister. Speaking of,” I glanced at the clock again before hurrying past him and back into the Ice Palace to drop off the cleaning rag, “I really should be going now, she’s probably already waiting for me.”
He slid off the countertop, spinning around to face me with a frown. “Aw, ya sure? Why don’t you just bring her along too? We won’t mind, the more the merrier!”
Still with the smile, now accompanied by a slight scrunching of my nose, I shook my head. “Mm, no, I don’t think that’ll work. But maybe next time, okay?” Slinging my bag over my shoulder, I stepped out from behind the counter once more and stretched up on my tippy-toes, reaching for the pull-down gate. Crud, why was I always so stupidly short?
“Let me.” Him being the absolute Ent that he was, Lea had no trouble whatsoever reaching it and yanking it down for me.
“Thanks,” I murmured before locking it up for the night, then turning and making my way towards the double doors leading outside.
“Hang on, I’ll walk you out,” he said, bringing me up short.
Turning my head back towards him, I held up a hand, “Oh no, that’s fine, you don’t have to!”
“I’m heading that way anyway.” He started walking away backwards, jerking a thumb over his shoulder towards the Pizza Planet, “Just let me close up shop real quick.”
“Really, it’s not necessary. I’m just going to-”
“Be back in a sec!” he spun one-eighty, jogging off.
“...go,” I finished weakly.
Well now what? I guess maybe I should wait? My eyes shifted to the doors longingly.
...well, I did tell him he didn’t need to walk me. Not my fault he couldn’t hear me over the sound of his own chivalry.
Screw it. I’m leaving.
With a small grimace and one last peek back to where Lea had just disappeared, I turned away, squared my shoulders and strode off.
Pushing through the exit doors and out into the night air, I spotted Anna parked at the curb right in front of me in her bright red Porsche convertible, its top already folded back. She honked at me, calling, “Hey, hot stuff! Looking for a good time?”
I merely grinned and shook my head at her as I approached the vehicle. However, just as I was reaching for the car door, a voice called out behind me, “Wait up!”
I winced, screwing my eyes shut.
Fudge.
Lea came to a stop next to me, panting and hunching forward, planting his hands on his knees. He must have been running the whole way to make sure he caught me before I could esc- erm, I mean, before I left. He lifted his head, blasting us with the full force of those dimples of his as his gaze flicked back and forth between me and Anna. “You sure you ladies can’t join us tonight?”
“Thanks, but-”
“Join you for what?” Anna cut me off, scooting closer by shifting from the driver's seat to the passenger, arms folding across the top of the door.
This. Right here. This was exactly why I hadn’t wanted him to walk me out.
“Nothing big,” Lea straightened up, placing a hand on the car door as well and leaning against it. “Just drinks and food with some friends from work. If you can’t change your plans though, that’s totally cool, I just wanted to-”
Because once Anna found out...
“What are you talking about?!” she laughed. “Of course we can change our plans! That sounds so fun, count us in!”
…there was no way I was getting out of it. Ugh.
“Wha- really?” No doubt about it. He was quite pleasantly surprised. “Great! The place we’re meeting at is called 7th Heaven. Short drive from here.” He waved to another car parked a few spaces further down the curb, which responded by flashing its blinkers, “That’s Xion. She drew the short straw for designated driver tonight. Just follow her car and she’ll lead you right to it!”
“Sounds good! See you there!” she waggled her fingers at Lea as he dashed off to get into the other car. Then she scooched back over behind the wheel, making room for me. Face pinching just a smidge, I sighed and got in, slamming the door shut behind me. Bouncing in her seat as she started the engine, she chirped, “Wow, we lucked out! This is gonna be a blast! You excited?”
“...thrilled,” I said dryly, buckling myself in.
Welp. Let’s get this over with.
Personal hell, here I come.
Author’s note: Ahhhh, there she is! Elsa’s feisty-pants lil sister makes her debut! Also, notice how much Anna says friggin’? Now those sound more fitting coming out of her, but Elsa grew up hearing those friggin’s (and fricks) coming out of her sis for years now, so it may have rubbed off on her a lil. Also the last name Fryse? Norwegian for ‘freeze’... yeah, I got a lil punny in coming up with Elsa’s family name, ignore me and my silly lil pleasures xD And more BBS ice creams sneak into this chapter - and I was mindful of their in-game descriptions too, so yes, it is in fact canon in the video game that the Snow Bear flavor has *shudders* tofu in it. TOFU. In ICE CREAM. Thanks, but no thanks!
Anyway, moving on! Now Anna drags our dear antisocial hermit off on an unwanted adventure! What’s next for our intrepid heroine? Will she survive this dreaded night of socializing? Just who exactly will be at Friday night drinks anyway? And with the sheer volume of ice cream Lea probably consumes daily, just HOW massive must his dentist bill be at this point, I mean really?? We may never know the answer to that last question, but as for the rest, stay tuned to find out next chapter!
Thanks for reading, I super duper appreciate it! And an extra BIG thank you to any new followers out there (hello! :D) and to those of you who hit that like button last chapter, seeing that always brings the biggest, goofiest smile to my face!

Wouldst Thou Like to Live Deliciously? - jimin x reader
A/N: Jimin is sick of being a virgin, and the pressure of the first time with a girl, so he decides to summon a sex demon to get it over with. 4.2k. Warnings for sexual content: male receiving anal, male receiving overstimulation, male receiving multiple orgasms, sub!Jimin obviously
Generally, you were the seeker and not the sought. Sex demons weren’t exactly the most coveted of the demons when it came to humans. You were used to residing on Earth and spending your time in grimy dive bars and alleyways, preying on the spineless men and women that inhabited them. As a succubus, you were sustained by the sexual energy of a human’s orgasm, and when humans wanted to summon a demon, normally they wanted to take rather than give.
Crossroads demons were in high demand; your friend Namjoon had just hit ten thousand souls last month from all the pitiful people on the planet who made deals with him. Even more popular, but much rarer, were demons like your ex Yoongi, who could tell the future for the right price. Never wrong, you had got the feeling that he always knew exactly what was going to happen in your relationship. When you had called it quits almost two years ago, he had already packed his bag and called an Uber before you even got home from work.
Truth be told, regardless of your job, you hadn’t had a good fuck since. Nobody could do it like the man who could predict your every nerve. Though you knew the two of you would never work out, your mouth watered at the memory of one night where he kept you on the edge of an orgasm for three hours, only to walk away and leave you tied up. When he finally returned and fucked you stupid, it was the best climax of your life.
Since then, you had been left with the plentiful scum of the Earth, letting yourself starve so that even the shittiest of lays would at least satisfy you for a while. It was while you were in a suburban neighborhood, ready to take a pathetic cheater of a husband after posing as the babysitter for a month, that you felt the unmistakable pull in your gut. You were being summoned.
You swore, got up off your knees and dropped the innocent act. Mr. Brooks cried out in disappointment and confusion as you ran out the hallway, but you had no choice. Summoning never took longer than twenty or so seconds for you since the recitation was so short, and letting a human see you vanish into thin air wasn’t wise.
Locking yourself in his bathroom and opening the window to fake an escape, you hear the echo of a sweet voice chime in your ears and feel a heat on your skin as the room tilts and shifts and morphs around you.
You end up in a room far different from the white tile bathroom with a seaside theme. This place was clearly a bedroom of sorts, but it was far messier than the bedroom of the suburban father you had just left in the middle of a blowjob. The sheets were all rumpled, the desk and bookshelves covered in scattered academic memorabilia, and you could smell burning incense; aniseed and cinnamon.
There was a young human cowering across from you, arms thrown across its face to shield itself from the burst of flames that had erupted upon your arrival. He probably hadn’t expected the salt circle on his carpet to light up, but he needn’t worry. Hellfire, as dramatic as it sounded, was in reality nothing more than an accessory. Only condemned souls could feel it or interact with it at all. If this human had bothered to look closely before it wicked away, it would have seen the way it floated a centimeter above the salt, never touching it.
Finally, the arms were lowered, and you could see it was a boy who had summoned you. You frowned at how innocent he looked, standing there in blue overalls and a yellow sweater. Surely this wasn’t a child? No, upon closer inspection of his face you could tell he was in his twenties, simply with a youthful face and eyes wide with apprehension.
“Mortal,” you declare lazily, having repeated this particular line far too many times to be bothered with enforcing any real drama or power behind it, “for what purpose do you summon me?”
“Oh, uh, right to it, I guess,” he says awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck with a sweater paw. “I really didn’t think this would actually work! Um, I’m Jimin, nice to meet you.”
Now it’s your turn to feel awkward at his apparent unpreparedness, but you keep a cool façade. “You are aware I am a succubus, no? I will not repeat myself again; for what purpose do you summon me? I cannot broker deals or tell fortunes like my brethren.”
“No! No, I don’t want a deal or whatever. I read somewhere that succubae need sex to stay alive, and that it doesn’t kill the victim.”
You shrug. “Correct. And so?”
He laughs nervously. “Well, I wasn’t going to do this, but I got desperate. You see, I’ve kind of always had trouble talking to girls, and all of my friends have alr-”
“I tire of your digressions, mortal. Either answer my question or release me. I have better things to do.”
Jimin shakes his mop of bleached blonde hair out of his face with a blush, avoiding your harsh gaze. “I just want you to have sex with me.”
You raise an eyebrow. “You summoned a demon purely to have sexual relations with it? I believe many would consider that inadvisable. There are currently over seven billion humans on this planet. Why not turn to one of your own kind to satisfy your needs?”
His cheeks are bright red at this point, and it pleases you to see. He clears his throat. “I haven’t lost my virginity yet, okay? I’m too nervous to ask a girl out, but I figure if I just get it out of the way then I won’t be so freaked out. Do you want it or not?”
You grin salaciously. “Do I want your virginity?”
“Yes!”
You hum, stretching out one foot to delicately push at some salt and break the circle, knowing without looking that his heart is racing in fear. “You are aware that virginity does not exist as anything more than a social construct of human beings? There is no biological difference between you and any other.”
Finally, he looks up at you with a frustrated pout. “Look, if you don’t want to, I’ll just banish you or whatever. You don’t have to be an asshole about it.”
“Oh, sweet boy,” you purr, stepping out of the broken ring, prowling towards him slowly as he backs up to the wall, “I never said I didn’t want it. Virginity means nothing for you humans, but for me? An untouched soul is the most delicious of all.” His back thumps softly against his bedroom wall, and you reach your hands up on either side of his face to cage him in. You stare at him intensely. “Have you ever masturbated before?”
He splutters and jerks his head down. “Uh, woah, I… Yes, of course I have. Why do you…?”
“A shame,” you sigh, “but still, I’ll enjoy taking you.”
You notice his gaze is still half-lowered, and when he speaks, his voice is light with confusion. “Um, excuse me for asking, but why are you wearing a school uniform?”
You blink and look down at yourself. Over the past five or so minutes you had completely forgotten about your attire, but Jimin is right. You had always gone over to the Brooks family home in a short plaid skirt and white blouse with shiny black shoes. One gift all succubae were given was the insight into any human’s sexual desires and fantasies, and this particular man had a thing for schoolgirls, so you indulged in order to get closer to him fast.
“Never mind that,” you growl, “it won’t be on for much longer.”
Enjoying the desperate way he gasps and swallows hard, you try to distract yourself from the irritating stirring in your stomach. Thinking back to Mr. Brooks just reminded you of the fact that you had put in all that work and never gotten your reward, as he hadn’t made it to an orgasm before you were pulled away. You would certainly get your fill from this boy tonight.
And speaking of him, you leant forward and slanted your mouth across his, pulling him into a deceptively sweet kiss as your body ran on autopilot. Jimin would get caught up in the kiss, lulled into a false sense of security while you dove into his mind, teasing out all the deepest sexual wants he had that he would never dream of telling anyone. Your victims always tasted so much better when their orgasms were fueled by genuine desire and satisfaction, so it was better to let them drown in their fantasies, rather than simply jerking them off to completion.
As Jimin trembled and whimpered into your mouth, you ran your tongue along his wet muscle, sucking and biting and nibbling as you had done for millennia. You could tell by most of his fantasies that he was unexperienced and a romantic soul; cheesy porn fantasies of getting spanked in detention mingled with dreams of making love under the moonlight. Most of it was sickening and boring to you, but as you deepened the kiss and felt him harden against you, his hands rising up tentatively to bury themselves in your hair, more interesting things came up too. You took note and decided to put them into use tonight. Maybe if you ruined him for all future lovers, he’d become a repeat customer. You could certainly get used to it.
You pulled away once you were done, licking your swollen lips and grinning at his whine as his eyes blinked back open. “Are you ready for me, baby boy?”
He nods feverishly, panting slightly. “Wait, I… I don’t know your name.”
“You can call me whatever you want, but I won’t be giving you my name. Names have power; it’s the only way to choose exactly which demon will come when you summon one.”
He frowns as you reach a hand up and brush his hair away from his face but leans into your touch. “I thought I called for you.”
“You called for a succubus, and I just so happened to be the one that got the call. If you say that incantation again as it is, you’ll most likely get a different demon each time. There are legions of us, baby boy. I’m just your lucky draw.”
He sighs in bliss as you intertwine your hands and lead him to his messy bed, pushing him down onto it so he bounces a little and blinks up at you lustfully. “I’m glad it was you.”
“Don’t speak too soon,” you warn, “we haven’t even started yet.”
“Please, noona,” he whines, “I need you.”
You straddle him languidly, pulling one of his hands up and sucking on his pointer finger, flicking your tongue over the pad teasingly. He chokes out a moan and bites down hard on his lip, shifting his hips in the hopes that his painfully hard erection will gain some friction against your core.
You pull your lips off of him with a pop, breaking the chain of saliva that connects you with your tongue, grinning as he shudders at the sight. “I need you to be very honest with me, Jimin. Can you do that?”
He nods obediently. “Anything.”
“I have two questions. Question one: what sexual activities have you done before? Be specific.”
He clears his throat but answers you anyway, looking sinfully submissive splayed out underneath you, hair forming a small halo around his angelic face. What a divine specimen, you can’t help but think. “I’ve kissed before; with tongue once, too. Uh, I’ve masturbated before. That’s really it.”
You nod and brush your hand against his cheek with a warm smile, relishing in the way he nuzzles against it. “Good job, my sweet boy. My last question:” you lean forward on him, ignoring the groan he lets out as you brush against his crotch, and nibble gently on his earlobe as you continue petting the other side of his face. “What do you want me to do to you?”
He whines. “Please, I… Anything, noona. I’ll let you do anything.”
Your core lights up at the thought, but you tug a little rougher on the lobe of his ear. “Use your words, Jiminie. Be more specific.”
When you sit up enough to be able to see the lust in his eyes, you grin salaciously at him and await his answer. He swallows hard. “I want you to use me. I want you to…fuck me.”
“You want me to ride you?” you ask, although you’re well aware it’s not what he means.
He shakes his head, whimpering slightly. “No, I want you to really fuck me.”
You give him a sweet peck as a reward, licking over the seam of his full lips. “But I don’t have a cock, Jimin. How am I supposed to fuck you?”
He swears lowly his in his throat. “Fuck, I don’t…With your fingers. Anything.” He licks his lips, voice dropping to a desperate whisper. “Please.”
You hum in satisfaction and stand up off of him, hearing him sigh in disappointment, his pelvis shifting on the mattress in dissatisfaction. He lifts his head up off the bed to watch you as you keep talking, slowly undressing yourself in front of him. Of course, you could dematerialize your clothes and be naked in an instant considering they were an illusion you manifested for Mr. Brooks anyway, but there’s no fun in that. “Come on, then, honey,” you say sultrily, “I can’t fuck you with your clothes on.”
He jumps up and frantically strips his socks, then wiggles out of his overalls. He’s so focused on obeying your orders that by the time he stops, completely naked with his member smearing pre-cum on his abdomen, he’s missed your little strip-tease.
Now both showing nothing but skin, you can see how his mind is starting to overheat with the pressure of it finally happening. You sigh and step forward to get onto the bed, cross-legged and leaning back on your hands so that you’re fully bare to him. He follows you with his hot gaze, eyes blown with lust. “You aren’t getting cold feet, are you, baby boy?”
He shakes his head quickly. “No, noona. I want this.”
You crook a finger at him. “C’mere.”
He exhales shakily, but he’s harder than ever, the tip almost purple with the amount of blood that has rushed to it.
“Lie back.” He does as you say, and you straddle him again. “Now, I’m going to give you what you want since you asked so nicely, but I think I deserve a little pleasure too, wouldn’t you agree?”
Jimin whines his agreement.
You grin at him, raising your hips so that your folds just touch the underside of his cock, causing him to give a violent shudder and swear slightly under his breath. “So I’m going to fuck myself on your cock while I fuck you. Is that fair?” He nods, eyes fixated on the sight of your pussy just barely touching him. “So, do you have lube?”
He blinks, breaking his heavy stare, and looks up at you. “Sorry, what? Uh, no.”
You frown in fake disappointment. “Well, I can’t fuck you with my fingers if you’ve got no lube.”
“Oh.” Jimin’s face crumples slightly and he bites his lip as he glances around the room. “We could use…uh…”
You reach down and pat his dick a couple times teasingly, feeling his thighs tense up underneath you. “Just kidding, baby boy. It wouldn’t be very professional of me if I didn’t come prepared.”
Waiting until he’s watching you again, you plunge two fingers into your pussy, collecting enough of your juices to coat your fingers. A perk of the job is that your body is always ready to go.
“Oh, god Fuck, that’s hot.” His head tips back but his eyes stay on you as you readjust yourself, sitting flush against his left thigh as you lift his right leg. He licks his lips at the feeling of your wetness against his thigh and clenches his muscles experimentally. The flood of pleasure catches you off-guard and you curl up, bracing yourself with a hand on his chest.
For the first time in the evening, you see a hint of some dominating tendencies with the evil grin he sends you as he relaxes, only to do it again, pairing it with a push up. You moan at the feeling and laugh shakily. “Kitty’s got some claws, after all. Alright, if you enjoy it so much, I’ll just stay here instead of sitting on your cock. Hm?”
“No,” he whines in frustration, pouting and dropping his teasing demeanor.
“Sorry, Jiminie. You had your chance. It’s too late now.” Your slip your fingers, still sticky and glossy with your arousal, down to massage his tight rim. He jumps and the muscles tighten, but you keep working at it with a firm touch, distracting him with the weakest, laziest of hand jobs as you go. Not like he’d know any better, and you didn’t want him cumming too soon. Finally, you manage to get finger in, and once it passes that initial grip, it plunges down, tearing a surprised groan from the boy.
You slowly begin to shallowly thrust, twisting and wriggling your digit until he jerks underneath you and cries out. You grin, and continue to press against his prostate, relishing the beautiful sounds it pulls from him.
“Oh, oh, it’s so good, oh my god,” he chants sweet nothings over and over, eyes clenched shut and completely overcome. Once you slightly tighten your grip around his cock and introduce your second finger into him, he begins panting noisily, whimpering every time you twist your wrist around his sensitive head.
Normally the build-up bores you when it came to most sexual acts, these included, but you find yourself getting drunk on the bliss on his face, wanting nothing more than to lean down and kiss him. No, you tell yourself, at least get him to cum first. It’s why you’re both here, after all.
It takes barely ten minutes to get him consistently crying out at every thrust. You speed up your pace on both fronts and Jimin writhes uncontrollably beneath you.
“Oh, I’m gonna… ah, ah…”
You let out a sadistic laugh. “You know what, baby boy?” He’s too far gone to answer you, but you hold him on the edge as he’s overtaken by sensation. “I’ve changed my mind; I do want to sit on your cock. Will you let me ride you, Jimin?”
You slow down enough to keep his orgasm at bay and he growls in frustration. “Fuck! Yes, okay, just make me cum. Please, noonaaaa.”
You grin salaciously and speed up. Soon enough, his movements still completely for a moment and then he falls over the edge, spurting cum all up his chest and neck. You grin at the sight, and work him through it, only slowing down once he’s spent.
He looks up at you in a hazy bliss, brows furrowed in confusion. “I thought you said…”
His cock isn’t soft yet, and you straddle him fully again, wasting no time before you spear yourself on his cock, immediately riding him like your life depended on it.
“Ah!” He screams and bats his hands at you weakly, trying to cringe away from the assault. “No, it’s too much! I can’t take it!”
“You will take it,” you command gruffly, feeling his cock remain reluctantly hard, dragging deliciously inside of you. “I’m still hungry.”
“Fu-uck,” he whines, “please, no, I’ll do anything.”
You sigh contentedly at the sounds of his cries as you work yourself to the edge. It was rare that a man had a fetish for receiving overstimulation; the trait was much more common in women, you found. So, when you had kissed him before and felt that desire, you knew you had to take your chance. It was occasional that people had fetishes for things they actually didn’t like in practice, but as Jimin’s teary cries turned to shocked moans, like he couldn’t believe it was feeling good again, you knew he really did want it.
“Come on, baby boy,” you pant out, “I want another.”
He sobs, hair sticking to his temples, and his hands gripping tightly on your hips in an effort to stop you. “No, I can’t, I’m going to pass out, it’s too much.”
“Pass out, then,” you taunt, I’m not getting off this sweet little cock of yours until I cum on it.”
He whines, but clearly deep inside he still has some brainpower left, for one of his hands leaves its bruising grip on your hipbone and reaches down, swiping at the front of your pussy until he finds your clit, rubbing feverishly at the sensitive bud until you’re almost at the edge.
At this point, though you’re sure he’s not even aware of it, his hips have begun rutting up against you, so you hold your climax back long enough that he returns again to the brink of orgasm, Jimin letting out an overwhelmed cry with every unconscious thrust.
He screams when he cums, and the delightful sound pushes you over the edge finally. You bat his hand away and work your clit until your finished, having mercy on his oversensitive dick.
You pull yourself off of him, feeling him fall out of you, his cock softening almost instantly on his stomach. The two of you are covered in the mess of it all, so you take the time while he’s in subspace to make your way around his small apartment, still naked, in the search of a towel or at least several tissues.
Returning with some baby wipes you found in a bathroom, you clean yourself and then him, being careful to avoid his sensitive cock as much as possible, and then you get dressed, finally sitting cross legged on the bed beside him.
You run a hand through his hair. “Are you still with me, Jiminie? Can you hear me?”
He blinks out of his daze and focuses on you above him, licking his lips and nodding slowly. After a few moments of your gentle coaxing, he sits up and drinks the glass of water you also prepared for him and then gets dressed himself, in a pair of sweatpants and a shirt instead of the clothes he originally had on.
He finishes his glass and runs a hand through his hair, staring at you in confusion. “Why… why are you being so nice to me?” he finally asks.
“I may be a demon, but I’m not an asshole,” you joke.
He sighs out blissfully. “God, that was incredible,” he confesses, “way better than I imagined it could be.”
You smile proudly and go to reply, but a sneeze stops you in your tracks. You were staring right at Jimin so you know the noise didn’t come from either of you.
Jimin isn’t as confused as you, he just huffs out angrily and stands up, walking over to his closet and throwing the door open. “What the fuck, Jungkook?”
You blink. In the closet, with a sweaty face and a lazy grin, is another boy, around the same age as Jimin, sitting on the floor amongst a pile of clothes. You try not to look at the pile of wet tissues scrunched up in his hands. You could’ve used that, you think, feeling the same disappointment a human feels when someone else enjoys the last slice of pizza instead of them. What a waste.
“What?” the boy defends, not a hint of remorse on his face. “I found the ritual online, I figured you owed me.”
“By watching me lose my virginity?” Jimin screeches.
“If you think I gave a shit what you were doing, you’d be wrong, bro.” He turns to you with a cheesy bow. “Ma’am, if I may say so, you have beautiful tits.”
You stare at him for a moment, then laugh contentedly. Just like humans, sex demons tended to get a little hangry, and you were pleased to finally be enjoying the satisfaction of a decent meal to raise your mood.
You glance back at Jimin, looking between the two boys. “My name is Y/n,” you reveal, “next time either of you are in the mood, replace the last line of the incantation with my name, and I’ll come. Hopefully in both meanings of the word.”
The boy called Jungkook sighs dreamily. “I think I’m in love.”

Making Some Music
Summary: Aasim and Ruby have a special moment alone with tea and some playful flirting.
Read on A03:
“Are you ready, my dove?” Aasim asked, closing the music room doors and turning to look at his girlfriend.
“Just about,” Ruby looked up from the tea set she’d placed upon the folding table they’d brought into the room. It wasn’t much of a set, just two cracked mugs and a teapot with half of the spout snapped off, but still it made Aasim feel fancy. He’d also been able to squeeze into a facsimile of a suit jacket made for a production of My Fair Lady performed at Ericson over a decade ago. Ruby had been able to find a maid’s uniform that mostly fit her. The dress went well past her knees and only half closed in the back, but neither of them were focusing on such details.
Sitting down together upon the couch, the two smiled at each other fondly as Ruby poured the echinacea tea for the both of them. Aasim had found the purple flowers a few months ago and brought them back for Ruby. She’d been very excited at the discovery, dedicating a corner of one of the planters to the blossoms. The vernacular for them was purple coneflowers and Ruby they were incredibly helpful for medicine. She and Aasim had soon found that they made a strong tea as well, one the couple usually combined with fresh mint when they had their secret tea parties.
Although there were a few such as Prisha or Omar who might enjoy having tea as well, so far the couple had kept these tea times private, fearing that if the secret was shared even once everyone would soon find out and they would never be able to enjoy such intimate privacy again. When they had tea together, the world outside faded away for just a few minutes and life felt blissfully normal.
“This batch has a particularly strong kick,” Ruby commented. She took a sip from the teacup she held lightly between her hands, the delicate handle long gone.
“Indeed,” Aasim murmured, raising his own cup to his lips. There was a large chip missing from its left side. Rather than avoiding it, Aasim had gotten used to drinking from that region of the cup before the tea spilled upon the floor. They chatted for a time about this and that: how chores had gone today, future projects such as the orchard they were hoping to form with the seeds Louis and Omar had brought back from a recent caravan. As they spoke, Aasim noticed a sort of pink netting poking out from Ruby’s skirt which had tangled and gotten caught up around one knee. “What exactly is that?”
“Oh, this?” Ruby nodded toward the pink material. “I was in the basement a few days ago looking around for some twinkle lights I thought I’d spotted down there when I came across another old costume box. I figure the stuff in it was from a production of The Nutcracker considering how many mouse costumes were in it. But I found this as well and figured it might do a good job poofing up my dress. Do you like it?”
Now that he looked closer, Aasim could see that Ruby’s maid outfit looked fuller than usual. “Quite impressive. If possible, it makes you look even more radiant than you did before,”
“Aww, stop that,” Ruby chuckled, giving her boyfriend a playful push. “You always say the darndest sweet things, especially during teatime,”
“I only speak the truth,” Aasim replied, looking at her with love. In a world so cruel and dark with no sort of future for them outside these walls, why not lavish all his affection upon the girl who had proven to surpass each and every one of his dreams? Ruby pulled him out of the tedium of daily life and into a world of hope where real progress could be made and visions achieved. This beautiful, brave, hard-working girl deserved every compliment Aasim could ever come up with to give her. Being with her, it really felt as though they had been able to turn Ericson into more than a survival outpost. It was home.
Ruby’s eyes glimmered, something more mischievous taking root in them. “Aasim,”she murmured, playing with the hem of her dress. “Are you feeling… frisky?”
The question set Aasim’s heart racing, his throat going dry despite just finishing his cup of tea. He nodded, setting his cup aside for a moment and awkwardly clearing his throat. “Of course,”
“Then let’s get started,” Ruby bounced to her feet, beginning to pour another up of tea. Aasim settled back on the couch, grabbing up the nearest book that lay on one of the arms of the furniture. This was a game they’d played together many times since discovering these costumes. Aasim wasn’t sure exactly what it was about seeing Ruby in a maid outfit that got him so worked up. Perhaps it was from reading Pride and Prejudice and the rest of the stack of Jane Austen books left behind in Miss Martin’s room time and time again. He’d taken to reading them aloud to Ruby at night and sometimes during teatime as well until they’d made their way through the entire set together. Ruby seemed to enjoy them just as much as Aasim did, something about the elegance and refinement of a bygone era entranced them.
After pouring the tea, Ruby began to dust the furniture with a scrap of an old shirt she kept tucked in the pocket of her maid uniform, humming to herself as she worked. As she wiped off different things and picked up trash off the floor, Aasim pretended to be absorbed in his reading. In truth he’d read the same sentence about five times now, his eyes constantly wandering over to his girlfriend, watching as she bent over or took particular care shining some knickknack atop the mantle. After a few minutes she turned to him with a smile. “Room’s all finished, sir,”
Aasim looked up from his book slowly, his eyes coldly examining the room. “I think not. Look at this place. It’s still filthy,”
A false pout took over Ruby’s lips as she looked at him, hands on her hips. “Well sir, perhaps if you didn’t treat it like such a pigsty it would look better,”
“What was that?” Aasim set aside his book, rising from the couch. “I’ll have you know that I keep my house up to the highest of standards as befitting a gentleman such as myself. I thought that you felt the same when it came to cleanliness, but perhaps that’s not the case,”
Ruby gasped in mock indignation. “I’ll have you know I’m one of the best-known maids in this entire county! Now if you ain’t happy with how the room was done, I’ll just start right on over again and prove you wrong!” She returned to her work with an added fervor, bustling about and rearranging this and that as she went.
Aasim couldn’t help but smile to himself. Even when she was trying to pretend to be someone entirely different, Ruby couldn’t help her Southern accent slipping through all the stronger when she got into character. He loved that about her. Slowly he began to follow her round the room, picking up each and every object that she cleaned and judging it silently. Ruby’s eyes met his, a playful smile crossing her face as Aasim began to draw closer and closer to her. Eventually they’d made a full rotation of the room, standing before the piano as Ruby began to dust off the keys. Aasim reached out, his hand brushing a stray curl away from her cheek.
Ruby pulled back with a dramatic gasp. “Why sir! What kind of an action was that? Are you making a move on me while I’m busy dustin’ and cleanin’ your parlor?”
“Don’t act coy with me. I’ve seen the looks you’ve given me as we’ve played our little game of cat and mouse right round this very room,” Aasim’s hand slipped round Ruby’s waist, pulling her closer as the other played with the zipper on the back of her outfit. “You, my dear, are a naughty, naughty maid,”
Suddenly a voice came from out in the hallway. “I’ll be there, later, Clem! There're a few things I want to do first!” Louis. He wasn’t supposed to be back from hunting yet. What on earth had led him to return so early? The footsteps were almost upon them, Louis talking to himself as he fiddled with the music room doors. “Ah, finally! Just me and the good old pia-” His words froze in his mouth as his eyes came upon the sight before him: Aasim and Ruby in full costume, wrapped in each other’s’ arms, Ruby pressed against the piano as Aasim’s hand was in the middle of unzipping her dress. “-No…” Louis murmured to himself, his sentence awkwardly finishing as he closed the door he had just opened.
There was a moment of tense silence, Ruby and Aasim sharing a look of fear as they wondered what Louis would do next.
Then the dreadlocked boy’s voice rang through the hallway once more. “Clem! You won’t believe what I just saw!”
“Shit,” Aasim swore, wildly wriggling out of his jacket before running toward the door. He couldn’t let Louis blab about this to everyone else at the school. “Louis, stop! It’s not what you think!” He sprinted out into the hallway in an attempt to cut his friend off at the pass. Ruby could hear their continued arguing as she awkwardly tried to zip her dress back up.
“It’s not what I think?” Louis retorted, the glee clear in his voice. “Oh ho ho, dear Aasim, looks like you’ve corrupted our sweet Ruby in your time with her,”
“No, it’s not like that at all! We were- having tea!”
“Is that what the kids are calling it these days?” Suddenly Louis’ tone shifted, turning to one of dread. “Wait. Oh god. My piano. You guys haven’t…?”
"What? No! We were just standing by it, I swear!”
“What’s all this about the piano?” Clementine’s voice came through the hall.
“Nothing!”
“Clem, I just saw the wildest thing when I opened the music room doors!”
“Louis, I swear to God…”
Ruby sighed. So much for their special teatimes. There was no keeping them a secret now. Still, perhaps it was for the best. Instead of hiding away from the rest of the school like they were hiding some big secret, perhaps now they could simply be honest and upfront when they needed some alone time. Considering how often Louis and Clementine and Violet and Prisha snuck off to be alone, Ruby was sure they’d extend her and Aasim the same courtesy and discretion they’d shown them. For now though, it was best to go out there and settle this fight. Taking one last sip of tea, Ruby squared her shoulders and stepped out into the hallway to set the record straight.

not to drag out the situation, but i really appreciate you speaking up about the whole dick as a poc. i really dislike dick as romani because, as you've mentioned, it's overall racist and Not Good, but i'm always worried about pointing that out and getting called racist, even though most of those dick stans are the ones actively ignoring actual poc characters in favour of his shitty, hackjob romani background.
god....... you hear that? that’s the sound of the tea being poured
I used to feel the exact same way, but at this point, when you have people barging onto other people’s posts specifically to call them racists for daring not to kiss the ground Dick Grayson walks on, enough is really enough
I love Dick. he’s my second favorite DC character after Jason. but we all need to face it: he’s a white boy. they both are. Devin Grayson’s shitty “backstory” that she forced on him just to have an excuse to 1) reinforce carnival worker stereotypes and 2) write Bruce as a racist does not erase the fact that he’s a white guy in 98% of his appearances, and that he has white privilege (as much as a fictional character can).
I mean, even if he’s “Romani” in Rebirth, look at how DC handles it: I love Raptor, too, but his entire character is one absolutely cringe-worthy racist caricature of the standard “evil leper g*psy.” fucking LEPROSY. they gave him fucking l e p r o s y!!! and that’s in addition to his “capitalism is the enemy so I will become a terrorist” deal. is this the representation people want??
Dick is white (save for a few racist retellings). Jason is white. Tim is white. Bruce is maybe Jewish if you squint, but still white af. no amount of clambering to try and make them POC will actually make them POC, you are not stanning an actual POC by insisting that these white characters are not white.
know who isn’t white in the batfam? Damian. Talia. Duke. Cass. the Fox family. Helena (in some versions). and yet, naturally, these same people who champion “POC Dick” fall silent when it comes to these characters. where were they when those assholes were bitching about Duke being in the batfamily portrait? when Cass got Batgirl taken away from her so she could be some stupid “Orphan” as if her relationship with Bruce as a father figure doesn’t exist? when modern comics still today have background gang members drawn as stereotypical black/Latino “thugs” getting the shit kicked out of them by the (white, white, so super white) main batfamily members?
it’s performative to a sickening degree. you don’t care about POC characters, you care about having a justification to drool over your favorite white boy (looking at “Jason is Latino/Tim is Asian” people too). and there’s nothing wrong with liking white characters, but jfc, cop to it! don’t draw them a few shades darker and pretend you’ve done something revolutionary, and that anyone who doesn’t do the same is somehow Less Woke Than Thou.
wow, that came out longer than I intended. whoops. but yeah, at least now there’s a record on here of where I stand!
