Final post on my Code Lyoko thoughts, as I finally managed to get everything I think about evolution sorted out in my head, no meme redraw this time cause I ran out of ideas lolz
Like I mentioned in my season 4 post, Evolution is its own can of worms that I went into with an open mind, so let’s start with what I liked: you can tell a lot of the budget went into the animation on lyoko, and as an artist myself, I will always appreciate others’ art. There’s some movements and expressions I really liked that simply couldn’t have been achieved in the 2000’s when the original show was running, even if I prefer the original artstyle. I also like some of the ideas put into Lyoko, personal favorite being the block wall. 10/10 best creation in all of fiction for real
I have mixed feelings on a lot of things, as while the show isn’t the worst, it definitely falls short compared to the original series. Making the real world scenes live action limits the ability for interesting XANA attacks, so we’re just stuck with spectres running after someone for the bajillionth time. I’m also not the biggest fan of the Tyrone plot point. The real world just kinda feels abandoned, almost nothing happens in it that doesn’t involve Lyoko, and part of why I liked the original show so much is the balance between saving the world and teen drama
Evolution doesn’t help itself by not only not answering questions left by the original series, but leaving new plot holes or just straight up forgetting things that happened in the first four seasons
If you enjoy evolution a lot that’s totally cool, and I’m happy you can enjoy something I’m not the biggest fan of, but personally while it has good parts, I get the most enjoyment out of it by treating it as an AU if that makes sense, not the worst show or anything, but definitely the weakest part of Code Lyoko to me
In other news I am still enticed by this series and now that I know the tumblr fandom for it is still alive I will be engaging with it more, I still adore this whole series so so much

It’s always so funny to me when someone can’t tell the difference between an actor who’s over the top and an actor who is doing an intentionally over the top performance. The former can be super aggravating, I get it—but the latter can be so goddamn effective. Especially when you know the actor already, know they’re fully capable of giving normal human facial expressions and chill line deliveries. And they’re out here doing The Absolute Most all of a sudden? It’s for a reason, dude. It’s almost always for a reason. And once you can see past the camp on the surface, it’s so much fun digging in to what emotions the character is actually hiding.
#this is mainly about servant (and to a lesser degree YJ)#like Ambrose in servant is (pardon me) serving SUCH a chaotic performance#but having known her for decades I know full well that’s on purpose#Dorothy is over the top because she HAS to be. because she’s built walls so high around her own grief that the denial comes out in Crazy#and she fully thinks she’s the only one paying attention. the only sane one in the room.#you get glimpses of her being ‘normal’ in flashbacks#still a little Much. still a product of wealth and expectation. detached from reality to a degree.#but the character she becomes after the tragedy is. A Character.#it’s not the woman she was before. she bricked that woman up. she’s taken her performance from television and made a baby blanket out of it#it’s so. so intentional.#and you sort of get a similar thing going with Hewson in early eps of YJ#totally different starting block. Van doesn’t start out traumatized. but she does start out Big#she’s loud she’s silly she’s being intentionally wacky to get laughs out of people#and some of it comes off a little cringe. because it’s a kid playing a role#this is how you like me. I’m gay. I’m butch. I’m hiding.#if I’m a jester you’ll see what I want you to and nothing more. that’s the plan. it’s working. don’t look at the goalie.#not as a person.#but as the show goes on (or as she’s spending time with taissa) she slows down some. quiets. she’s snarkier. holding tension differently.#Hewson starts the performance at an 11 so they can really delve into who Van becomes when the mask is off#when there’s no point in playing the class clown#when it’s like. ah yeah. here’s the kid who grew up too fast.#here’s the kid who’s scared to death. and angry. and willing to fight to live.#it’s not an overacting thing. it’s VAN overacting to keep her secrets#watch the face so you miss what the hands are doing#actors man. actors are fucking cool. storytelling is fucking cool.#deconstructing the illusion is my favorite thing#(anyway still watching servant and it’s still really. Something Else.)

Sooooo round walls are buggy as heck?! There's no way the the Sims team isn't aware of this.
Worst part is that their asses are going to try and sell the medieval kit people voted on even though round walls are quintessential to those builds and they do. not. work!!!!

#sims team losing the challenge of trying not to disappoint players over and over again#and some people will say I'm being too negative 🤔 when they're going to try and peddle a kit for cash...#and ya'll are gonna try to build castles and won't be able to 😂 because round walls do not work 😂!!!!#so that medieval build kit is gonna be real useless with current features. I still can't believe that won#at least futurism would be incorporated fairly easily. Idk what everyone thought we were gonna get for a $5 kit 😭#Still bitter but that's just my opinion and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinions on this topic#I just don't understand how anyone is going to make castles when round walls don't work#but EA hasn't been jumping to fix it soooooo my expectations are low 🤷♀️#personal#ts4 complaints#<- just block that tag if you don't want to see 'negativity' about the sims team on my page btw

God I love it when finding a solution to one of the smaller problems snowballs into having enough motivation and determination to actually do a majority of a task you've been putting off
#who knew that hydrating and finding an extra cord could be the solution to everything#btw sorry for that one post yesterday#mild dehydration and overheating makes me so dramatic#btw the task was setting up my window ac because the built-in ac hates us and broke#I was mostly annoyed that I'd have to unplug my tv because the power strip I used was the one I use to plug in my ac unit#because apparently the wall with the closest outlet is connected to the same wall in my siblings room#and having both of our window units plugged in at the same time causes the power in our rooms to go out#so I gotta thread the cord and power strip under and behind my bed#it only just barely reaches#it looks so janky#doesn't help that the outlet over there is missing the cover#it makes me so incredibly anxious#can't wait to wake up in the middle of the night and find out my bed is on fire#how well do you think memory foam burns?#anyways I found an extension cord with 3 plug things#it unfortunately isn't the right type for me to use with the ac unit#but I can use it for my tv and fan!#that gave me the motivation to move my nightstand and everything on it and pull out my window unit#still need to put it in and plug it in tho#also make the makeshift side things that block stuff from getting through on the sides of the unit#it only takes up half of the bottom of the window after all#and I am not letting bugs and wild cats in like that#too many fleas. they'll infect our cats#and dealing with all our cats having worms is not fun#anyways I've decided to make tags to find my own posts easier so uh#EmmieNems ramblings

I was figuring out how exactly map pixel art works and so I filled the border of the smallest map size in creative and....ah.
#its VERY big#by my count it was 118X118 but the wiki says 128X128????#16384 blocks????? to make a picture Id need to place down 16384 blocks???? are you sure about that????#I was planning on making my pixel art with coloured wool since I wanted to make an automatic wool farm portion in my giant factory#how am I gunna keep it lit? i saw that torches dont show up on a map but i think it would be annoying to have to take away and replace 'em#coloured glass would make it so mobs dont spawn i think....but then I wouldn't need to have so much wool#also do I keep the canvas white??#I experimented with placing things on top of white VS putting it all on the same level VS building some parts up for highlights#oh shitttt wait and when im done with a picture id need to remove the blocks if I were to make another one....shiiit#hmmmmmmm#auuuuuu its 11pm on sunday i gotta shower and go to bed and go to work tmr! FACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#the entire weekend i could play minecraft but it still wasn't enough#i just end up having more ideas than I can work on#and right now all my plans are very grand#this weekend I was working on covering a giant underground lava pool in glass then putting a water elevator to the surface#and I was gunna make a sort of floating tower to go over part of the elevator#and that would be my house while I explore this giant ass cave#i got started collecting materials since I think I want it to be deepslate and crimson stems n stuff#and throughout doing that I was smelting sandstone for a pixel art wall project and collecting quartz for my liminal building ahhhdslkfjslk#ok sorry had to get all that outta my system. I can't talk at my mum about MC anymore cuz I know I'm probs bugging the shit outta her#at least here I'm just talking to the void HELLO VOID ILU VOID#minceraft#personable

Just ended up seeing part of a1p1 and. Saw the look Owen gives to Curt as they start to turn away from the audience on 'time to put on your tux again'. I feel like crying???
This was after replaying the moment specifically bc I caught the start of the choreography right after and the arm grab felt like a punch in the gut. Guys I think I might care a little bit too much about this choreography and this show and these characters
#definitely was spooky#THE CONNECTION. THE INTENSITY. THE TRUST.#THEY RELY ON EACH OTHER THEY DEPEND ON EACH OTHER.#choreography that tells you as quickly as possible how close and important these characters' bond is#even when you don't necessarily know Why yet you know that there is an incredibly strong bond there#it's a dance that they do together. it's representative#they reach out for each other at the same time. and neither misses. the other is right there reaching back.#and then the look to the audience messes me up too.#i'm incredibly normal about the fourth wall.#that moment to me (at least right now but i've noticed it before) feels like (at least on a rewatch maybe) saying Witness This.#bc of the blocking curt is turned more towards the audience. we are a viewer that is there with him and is included in the moment.#we're invited in. acknowledged as part of the team. we're coming on this journey with him and he's noticed we're here.#owen is turned away and he looks back over his shoulder. he knew we were here. an actor ought to know where their audience is.#like he's checking we're still here. prepare to watch the show. before returning to the real focus - the man before him and the task at han#idk i just. curt looking at what's in front of him. just now noticing what is with him#owen looking back to check. owen looking back.#turned away like he's about to leave but he looks back at us. checking if we're watching. witness this.#i am aware that i am on about absolute nonsense here i am just having a moment#i love making things up for fun#however if i ever do somehow get the chance to play owen i will be thinking a lot about any slight interaction with the audience!#because that is how i roll. overthinking something that makes no difference to anyone else but does To Me

I think about Azula shooters often and their common refrain of "if Azula hadn't had a mental breakdown, she would've won" and I'm here to tell you that no, she wouldn't have.
There is no universe in which Azula was winning that fight with Zuko (or Katara, for that matter).
Azula spent so much of Book 2 being built up as this deadly terrifying force against whom the heroes are badly outmatched that it can be difficult to catch exactly how quickly Zuko is advancing.
Back up a bit to Book One. For the fearsome exiled crown prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko's not that impressive a firebender. He's not bad by any stretch, and he's able to lay the untrained Sokka and Katara flat pretty easily. Then he gets in the ring with Aang, who is an airbending master, and the difference between a regular bender and a master becomes apparent when Aang literally puts his ass to bed:
People have attributed this to the fact that no one's fought an airbender in 100 years, but I think it's also worth noting that Aang (a 12 year old from a pacifist nation) has probably never fought anyone before. Like, ever. And yet the second Aang thinks "okay, I'll attack back", the fight's over.
Zuko's got the same genetic predisposition for firebending talent that Azula does, yet it never seems to manifest because of his mental blocks. At the beginning of the series, he's already so beat down that all he really has is conviction, pride, and anger, so even with training from Iroh (the firebending master, thank you very much), he struggles. Yet throughout Book 2, when he has no time to train because he's on the run, he actually seems to advance faster. The fact that his bending is literally tied to his character arc (as his morals become tangled and he has to fight off aforementioned mental blocks) is pretty brilliant. Like, by the time of the Crossroads of Destiny, Zuko getting his ass handed to him by Aang is a pretty consistent feature of the show--he just can't match wits with him.
Hell, at the beginning of the series, he and Iroh (again: the actual firebending master) launch a combined power surface-to-air attack...which Aang casually swats away into a nearby ice wall. Come the Crossroads of Destiny, however, and Zuko by himself launches this bigass fireball that blows through Aang's defenses.
Zuko advances so quickly that it's scary. That prodigious talent is in him even if it doesn't come through as cleanly as with Azula. Who, by the way, was busy about to get flattened by Katara some few dozen feet away, until Zuko took over and then effectively stalemated her himself.
All of this in retrospect makes it abundantly clear why Zuko's firebending seemed to skyrocket so much when he learned true firebending from the Sun Warriors: it was really the only thing left. He's hard a hard road learning how to fight waterbenders, earthbenders, and airbenders, and even if unconsciously, he's applying the philosophy Iroh taught him about augmenting his bending style with aspects of other styles (see also, the waterbending-like fire whips he uses in the above gif). Once he actually understands fire and how it works, he's got it mastered. Hence why any gap between him and Azula effectively disappears as soon as their next fight--before her friends have betrayed her and her stability goes out the window. There's no real sense of urgency to their fight at the Boiling Rock prison. True, Sokka's presence with the sword helps, but Zuko doesn't look remotely worried and he counters Azula's every attack perfectly.
All her life, Azula only ever learned fire. She was taught by the best people the fire nation can employ, so she knows all the cool tricks, but she's still poisoned by the corrupted firebending practiced in the modern ATLA timeline. Unlike Zuko, who managed to get the basics if nothing else from Iroh (fire comes from the breath, and can be used to survive as much as to kill), Azula has always used fire as a weapon and a means to hurt others. She has no true knowledge of the craft, meaning she's got the same weaknesses as Zhao, she's just better disciplined to the point she can make up for it.
Zuko's victory was a given considering Azula's complete loss of control by the time of Sozin's comet, but even had she been in a perfect mental state, she'd have lost, because in many ways Zuko is simply the better firebender.
And that's the truth of it.

✧ ⁺˳ cw. fem! reader, unprotected, size difference, ab riding, dirty talk, squírting, praise, petnames, mdni.
gym rat bf! toji who’s just so fucking big.
you can’t help but openly gawk at him whenever he’s doing his hourly reps and sets. he’s fit, and you’d just do nothing but watch the veins prod within his beefy toned arms all day if you could. “y’er daydreamin’ again,” he’d gruff, watching as you writhe around his heavy length that’s currently nestled between and inside your sapping folds. you were moaning under your breath, desperately trying to get over your most recent orgasm that left your toes curl in. “wonder what’s goin’ on in that pretty mind,” toji murmurs, lying flat back against his weight bench. he’s got nothing on but a sweat drenched tank and black loose shorts—shorts that would always show off the outline of his his raging boner—shorts that were lazily tugged way down the hem of his waist all thanks you. “fuuuckk,” he hisses, feeling you abruptly sit up with his cock loudly exiting out of you. with a squelching ‘pop’, the noise of your cunt rings throughout the thin walls of his gym and he phews. “what’s . . with that look, baby?”
“i wanna try riding these,” you’d breathe through soft breaths, creating a slow trail down his chest with your finger. a bit of sable-dark chest hair sticks against his skin, his pecs specifically. god, he was just mesmerizing to look at. he’s laid underneath you, manspread as your eyes continue to rove further down his perfectly carvened body. streams of perspiring sweat race down his hewed sculptured v-line before you stop at his curly happy trail. “wanna ride your abs, toji.”
with a sly grin, he swipes a thumb over his scarred glossed lips. “do ya now?” and you could almost see the smugness swell up in his chest. toji’s shaggy bangs fully block his vision as he gets a good look at you, making two bandaged hands glued to your waist. “weird girl,” he snickers, and you moan once his emerald eyes flicker towards your drooling wet cunt. “hn. but go ‘head then. knock y’erself out,” he tilts his head back, crossing his arms cockily. “make me proud.”
slowly, you move yourself closer toward the middle part of his body and you moan almost right away. it’s a pretty sound that he’d never get tired of hearing. toji’s perfectly muscle-bound, such swole arms and even more swole calves—so thick, your skin practically sticks against his the longer you spent on his chest.
the second your bare cunt leisurely slides against his abs, you feel a cold shudder creep down your spine.
“f- fuck,” you whimper through gritted teeth, glancing at his face to see him combing a few cramped fingers through his hair. toji’s broad frame underneath you grew idle and still—and he can’t help but snake a big callused hand around your waist, stroking a few weak pumps at his now soft cock that was inside you just milliseconds ago. “toji, your abs feel so good.”
“they better be,” he rasps as one of his forearms pulls away, stretching outward to grab onto the handle bar that’s directly above the two of you.
multiple veins of his bulge through every part of his arms and you felt yourself throbbing just at the sight. he’s so big, and you only craved more by the second. toji grunts, feeling the coolly air waft against his reddened neglected tip as you continue to thrust forward - sloppily, but forward.
your hips were pathetically slow, barely even making haste as you dragged against each flat sleek ab. you were rickety, cutely making a feeble swivel with your waist despite how your knees were on the verge of bucking. toji continues to watch you, studying your lewd facial expressions and all. he noticed how your breathing continued to change, your eyelids would grow heavy, drooping lower and lower as and your mouth hangs itself open—gasp after gasp leaving your spot-slicked lips. tossing his head back, you glance how his adam apple bob’s, and he’s giving your ass a tight squeeze. “yeah, that’s it. ride ‘em good, princess,” and his voice pitches a deep husky low once your cunt squelches right up against tightening midsection. “mhm, use those hips. fuck me good, baby.”
as shallow breaths continue to ruthlessly snatch away from your full lungs, you resume to rock back and forth against him—his sharpened pectorals now being lewdly slathered from top to bottom with your syrupy juices. “hngh, ‘s ripped,” you’d moan out, feeling your tummy heave and curl inward within every few jerk of your deranged hips. you bit the bottom of your lip, pulling skin back whilst his abs continue tighten even more right underneath you. his six pack’s now entirely wet, shining with nothing but your own candied slick and he grunts. toji hears the greedy squelches of your pussy but he only imagined what it looked like down there. as your lips form into a gasping ‘o’, your brows contort into a furrow as you start to whimper out pathetic babbles. “toji, ‘m not gonna last. fuck, fuck.”
“oh, c’mon, don’t say that, princess,” the dark haired man coos, and you then star to feel the fat round tips of his thumbs massage against your active hips. he’s steadying your waist, helping you grind faster and faster despite how your legs were close—so so close to succumbing to defeat. “y’er a big girl, keep goin’ baby, ride ‘em like you ride my cock, mhm.”
your cunt twitches at his words, at his praise and oh it’s so embarrassing. as you continue to move, toji can feel the faint spasming throbs that vibrate on his flat stomach and he snickers. “shit,” you gasp, and your hands continue to feel up inside the thin linen of his tank top. he’s so buff, you couldn’t help but salivate—imagining toji with his big bulky arms slowly wrapping around your throat. your hips start to accelerate at a much briskly pace. as you were trapped in your erotic seven second fantasm, you sob out a whimper once he spanks your ass, bringing you straight back to reality. he’s telling you to keep going, you could tell from the brief priggish look in his eyes. “toji—ngh, ‘m gonna—”
and as your sopping folds continue to move quicker against his chiseled ripped pecs—you let off a soft dramatic gasp as fluttering ripples of waves surge through your core. out of nowhere, you gush right onto his abdomen while you’re still sloppily thrusting your hips onto his tight flexing stomach. “fuck, ohmygooodd,” you’d whimper out in cute elongated mewls, dragging every poor syllable. your squelches were loud—and your eyes widen at the sheer realization that you’re squirting—trickling out lustrous spurts of your own juices. you were holding in a breath you didn’t even know you were holding, and your eyes squeeze shut completely once you fully release.
with weak bucking hips, you let off a shaky sigh and toji’s still got that annoying smug grin plastered across his face. “aw, poor baby,” a hand of his snakes around your waist, dark aroused eyes glancing at your pulsating weeping pussy. you weren’t moving anymore, and yet you were still plopped on his pecs. seconds later, you feel him flex each core muscle against your achy clit and you whimper, geysers of slick dampening his swole abs. “tch. made such a mess, ‘m all soaked,” and you moan, feeling him grab ahold of both of your wobbly unstable hips. you were dumb, dumber than you’ve ever been and all you felt was his tightened abs tensing right underneath your slobbering slick heat.
toji’s entire chiseled midsection of his chest was now sheeny, perfectly coated with your slick that makes his skin glimmer like a jewel and he hums. “my messy girl,” and a thumb of his playfully smears down your cunt, feeling it’s pulse prod against his fingertip. with an amused quirk of his thin black brow, he tastes you by licking his finger slyly. with needy eyes, you’re just blankly staring at him—panting heavily, pawing at his puffed chest for more. “oh, you’re not done?”
“n- no,” you whine, feeling a plethora of electric shockwaves erupt through the undersides of your thighs as you start to pathetically rock against his abs again, rubbing yourself against your own slippery wetness. “fuck, want more. hold still, toji.”
“ ‘m all yours,” he replied in a low mumble, giving your ass one more teasing squeeze. as he grabs a nice chunk of it, he groans throatily before laying his feet flat down against the carpet beside the bench. “good girl, keep ridin’ me,” and his hand tightens against your ass, throwing his head back with his hands covering his face. “fuck, gotta train this sloppy cunt some more anyway, heh.”

𝐁𝐅𝐅! 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐊 who, with his newly developed super hearing can totally hear his best friend touching herself from the house next door !
warnings: MDNI, afab/fem! reader, mentions of porn, masturbation, im so sorry this is rlly dirty
it's been exactly 14 minutes and 53 seconds since you began to touch yourself. you're watching porn - the overexaggerated moans coming from the speakers of your phone almost entirely blocking out the sounds of your own pleasure. you're gasping - each delve of your fingers into your entrance eliciting another sweet cry.
you were home alone for the weekend. obviously. and you were definitely taking advantage of it. what you didn't really consider is your childhood best friend who lived just next door - who also, conveniently, just recently developed superhuman abilities - could hear every micromovement you made: the rustling of your covers, the clicking sounds of your slick rubbing over your clit, the quiet moans you let out.
every. single. detail.
now mark knew what he should have done is put his headphones on and turn the sound up to max. he most definitely should not have stilled his own breathing to focus on each little shuttering gasps you let out. he absolutely should not be fisting his cock and matching the pace of your quickening fingers. but pre-powers mark could have only dreamed of his new abilities allowing him to hear his hot best friend watching porn to get herself off - and he definitely was not going to let the opportunity slip through his grasp.
he was in sync with you: groaning and squeezing the base of his length whenever you curled your fingers - his thumb teasing his weeping slit with every flick of your finger against your clit.
he could hear the clapping sounds of skin meeting skin coming from your phone and he squeezed his eyes shut - imaging the fat of your ass bouncing with every thrust of his into your needy pussy.
he didn't know how he was even lasting as long as he was - the thought of his hand being your welcoming cunt all while getting to listen to you make yourself squirm and cry... it was all too much. it must've been his viltrumite stamina that allowed him to hold off until you came.
when you do come, your voice overtakes the noise of the video playing and he can clearly hear the exact moment your walls flutter around your fingers upon meeting your climax.
he came immediately after, picturing you taking all of his cum while his aching cock dumped more and more of his load all over his taut stomach. his muscles flexed under the heat of his fresh load and he let out a long satisfying groan.

Joel Miller meeting your parents
this is just a stupid little thing from seeing this gif of him in this post ok thank you and goodnight. Been having writers block so if an idea can get this far on docs I’m posting it
|| fluff, little bit nsfw, daddy kink, old man joel, peepaw joel meets your parents, reader's dad is kind of a hard ass, I suck at flirty banter tbh, cracking up at some of the shit I put in here, enjoy ||
“Baby, I’m serious—” Joel said, but his hands betrayed him, gripping at your hips like he couldn’t help himself as you climbed into his lap. Your knees framed his thick thighs, still clad in worn denim, while his green plaid shirt had come untucked and bunched around his waist. A sliver of soft, tanned stomach peeked out as he leaned back against the bed frame.
“I’m serious too,” you murmured, voice thick with want as you pressed your mouth to his neck. Your fingers wove through his hair, tugging just enough to make him groan. “Need you, Joel. Been thinking about this all day.”
“We’re gonna be late if you keep this up,” he rasped, even as his head tipped back to give you more of his throat, groaning low when your teeth grazed the scruff along his jaw.
“Don’t care,” you breathed, lips brushing the shell of his ear. “They’ll be fine.”
You hiked your skirt higher, rocking down against him, already expecting to feel that familiar ache of him beneath you—but instead, your hips stilled at the softness of his lap. You blinked, confused, pulling back just enough to search his face. But Joel wouldn’t meet your eyes. His gaze darted everywhere else, over your shoulder, to the wall behind you, the damn nightstand—anywhere but you.
“…Joel?”
He still wouldn’t look at you. You moved your hands to his chest, flattening them against the flannel, feeling the heavy thudding of his heart beneath your fingers.
“You okay?” you asked, softer now, studying him. He looked nice tonight with his hair slicked back, beard freshly trimmed, and his shirt sleeves rolled up just enough to show off the veins in his forearms.
You cocked your head, more curious than concerned now as you really looked at him. “Are you…” You reached up, cupping his jaw, gently turning his face until his eyes finally met yours. “Joel Miller, are you nervous?”
He let out a long breath, his voice low and a little rough. “Course I’m nervous, baby.”
“Why?” you asked, easing back in his lap. You could still feel the warmth of his hands on your hips, thumbs sweeping slow, steady circles. It was more soothing for him than you now, grounding himself in the feeling of you.
“Any man’d be nervous meetin’ his girl’s parents for the first time,” he muttered, eyes flicking away again. Then, quieter, “Even if they weren’t his own damn age…”
You smiled softly, leaning in to press a kiss to his lips—gentle, unhurried. He let you, kissing you back with a quiet sigh, the kind that said he was trying not to get pulled under. You hovered close, noses brushing, before pulling back just enough to meet his eyes again.
“They’re gonna love you,” you whispered.
Joel gave a dry huff, eyes flicking away. “They’re gonna think I’m a damn pervert.”
“You are a pervert.”
His gaze snapped back to yours, narrowing just a bit, the muscles in his jaw tightening. You didn’t miss the way his brows dipped or how his eyes darkened, heat stirring just beneath the surface.
You bit back a grin, fingers tracing along the collar of his shirt. “It’s one of my favorite things about you.”
He rolled his eyes, still glaring up at you, and you let your shoulders drop, giving in. “Okay, so you’re older than me, who cares? You’re also respectful. And kind. You’re a good man. You even built my cat a window catio.”
That earned the faintest twitch at the corner of his mouth, though he still wouldn’t look at you.
“And you didn’t have to say yes to any of this,” you added, quieter now. “But you did.”
He let out a breath, one hand tightening just slightly at your waist.
You leaned in, your nose brushing his. “And if I thought for one second they wouldn’t like you, I wouldn’t be dragging you into this.”
Finally, his eyes flicked to yours, unsure but searching.
You gave him a small smile. “You’ve got nothing to prove. Just… be yourself. Maybe with slightly less scowling.”
His lips twitched into even more of a smile then, and you kissed the corner of his mouth, lingering there a moment. “But if it helps…” you murmured, lips grazing his jaw now, “I can think of something to get your mind off it for a minute.”
Joel let out a slow breath, one he’d been holding in the entirety of your reassurances, his head falling back against your pillows again.
You smiled against his throat, lips curved with mischief. “I mean… if you really want me to stop…” you murmured, pressing your mouth to the spot just under his jaw. “I could get off your lap.”
Your hips shifted like you might, and his grip on you instantly tightened.
“But then…” you went on, voice all innocent and sinful at once, “what should I do about all this?”
You reached down, took his hand in yours, and guided it between your thighs, right over your panties, where the heat of you was unmistakable. His palm pressed flush against the soaked fabric, and you felt his breath catch sharp in his chest.
He hummed low in his throat, something dark and approving, and as your fingers slipped away, his own pressed harder. His touch was firm, possessive, like he’d been dying to do it but holding back until now.
“This’s all for me?” he finally muttered, voice rough as gravel. “Just from sittin’ in daddy’s lap, huh?”
You whimpered, rocking into his hand, desperate for more friction as you nodded. He gave it to you, slow circles with his fingers that had your breath stuttering, your thighs trembling around his. Even with the fabric between you, you could feel his rough calloused pads of his fingers perfectly against the heat of you.
“Joel,” you whined, barely even meaning to say it.
With a grunt, he shifted, and suddenly your back hit the mattress with a soft thud. He was over you in a flash, his body heavy and hot as he settled between your legs, looking at you like he was starving.
“You got me all worked up now,” he muttered, voice thick and low as his hands dragged your skirt higher, exposing more of your thighs. “Can’t let you walk out that door like this.”
He dipped his head to your neck, lips brushing over your pulse point before suckling gently. The scrape of his beard followed, rough and hot, as he worked his way lower, mouthing at the curve of your collarbone. Then down further, pushing your shirt up as he went, lifting it just enough to mouth at the soft skin of your chest.
“Let me take care of you,” he rasped, dragging his tongue over the top of your breast, nipping at it like he couldn’t help himself. “Let me take care of this little problem, huh, baby?”
You let out a breathless laugh, your fingers tangling in his hair. “Knew I’d get your mind off it, old man.”
His hands were everywhere now—palming your thighs, gripping your hips, pushing your panties aside just enough to slide his fingers back where they belonged in your wet, glistening entrance. His mouth returned to your skin, kissing and suckling until your back arched and your breath hitched in your throat.
Joel finally lifted his head, eyes dark and hungry as he hovered over you.
“You gonna be the one tellin’ your parents why we’re late?” he quirked his eyebrow with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
You smirked, hands sliding up his shoulders and onto his neck, tugging at the nape of his hair, “I’ll say I had to help you calm your nerves. Blow off some steam. Pretty sure I’m doing everyone a favor.”
Joel huffed a low laugh, shaking his head as he looked down at you. “That so?” he murmured, his smile pulling a little wider. “You’re real proud of yourself, huh?”
You grinned up at him, eyes sparkling. “You’re welcome.”
He chuckled again, the sound low and warm in his chest. But then something shifted, his gaze lingering a little longer, smile easing into something softer. His eyes flicked around your face like he was locking it into his memory. The mischief faded, replaced by something deeper, something heavier.
When he kissed you, it wasn’t playful anymore. It was deep and unhurried, messy and slow, full of everything that had led up to this night, where you were finally taking this next step, where things became even more real. One hand braced beside your head, the other deep inside you between your trembling legs, dragging you closer to the edge with every slow, deliberate roll of his hips.
Your breath caught. He pulled back just slightly, resting his forehead against yours.
“I love you,” he murmured, barely audible, like it had slipped out before he could stop it.
“Love you too, big guy,” you whispered, smiling as you pulled him back down to you.
The porch light flickered on above you as the sun dipped low, casting long shadows across the worn steps. Joel stood just off-center in front of the door, fingers loosely laced, jaw tense, shoulders drawn up like he expected to be called into a principal’s office.
You watched him for a moment, the way his eyes kept scanning the darkening yard, how his foot tapped once, then twice. He was wearing that soft brown light jacket over the green flannel, the one you loved so much. His hair was smoothed back now, but you could still see the faint tousle where your fingers had been tangled in it less than an hour ago. There was something boyish about how nervous he looked.
You stepped in close and laid a hand flat against his chest.
“Hey,” you said gently. “You’re okay.”
His eyes finally met yours, soft and searching, and you offered him a small smile as your fingers smoothed out the front of his shirt, pressing down a wrinkle that wasn’t really there.
“You’re gonna be fine, Joel. It’s just dinner.”
“Do they know that I’m–?” he mumbled.
You leaned up, brushed your lips over his, cutting him off. It wasn’t hungry or rushed, just soft, sweet, and steady.
When you pulled back, your voice was quiet. “Relax. Like I said, they’re gonna love you.”
He exhaled through his nose, a little shaky, and gave a small nod. His hand came up to rest gently on your waist, thumb brushing over your hip like he needed the contact to stay grounded.
Then, behind you, the front door creaked open with a slow, familiar groan. You turned just enough to see the porch light glint off your dad’s glasses.
Joel straightened like he’d been caught doing something criminal. “Sir,” he greeted, stepping forward to shake your dad’s hand.
Your father was stone-faced, giving Joel a single nod as he returned the handshake. He stood in the doorway, quiet and watchful, eyes moving between the two of you without a word.
You swallowed, throat suddenly dry.
“Are they here!?” came a familiar voice from just inside. A second later, your mom popped her head around your dad’s shoulder, her hands clutching his arm. Her eyes lit up the second she saw you.
“There she is!” she squealed, practically barreling into you for a hug.
You let out a soft laugh as she wrapped her arms around you, warm and overwhelming in the best way. She pulled back just enough to hold you at arm’s length, eyes flicking over your face like she was making sure you were really here.
Then her gaze shifted.
“And you must be Joel!” she said brightly, stepping toward him with a big smile.
“Yes, ma’am,” he replied politely.
“Oh, don’t call me that,” she waved him off, offering her name instead.
You caught the twitch of a smile on Joel’s face as he repeated it, his voice soft with that drawl you knew so well.
She reached out and placed her hands on his arms, eyes roaming over him with zero subtlety. “Well, aren’t you handsome,” she said with a wink.
“Mom…” you groaned under your breath.
“Come inside, you two. Dinner’s nearly ready.”
Joel glanced at you, his jaw tight but his eyes softer now. There was still a flicker of nerves there, but beneath it was something quieter. Maybe even grateful. Like he couldn’t quite believe he got to be standing here, hand still warm from your dad’s handshake, your mom’s voice ringing with welcome, your hand just a breath away from his.
You offered him a small smile, one he returned without thinking, and the two of you stepped inside together.
You leaned up to kiss your dad’s cheek as you passed, and he returned it gently, one hand settling on your arm in a quiet, welcoming squeeze.
“So,” your dad’s voice carried from the head of the table, “what is it you do, Joe?”
“It’s Joel, dad.”
Your father raised his eyebrows like he hadn’t noticed the correction, even though he absolutely had.
“I own Miller Contractin’,” Joel said, calm and steady. “We build houses, do commercial work, though mostly stick to residential these days. All across the county.”
Your dad nodded, still not looking up from his plate, chewing a little harder than usual. “Miller Contracting… That just you, or you got a crew?”
“My brother and I are partners, we got a good crew of guys.”
“Hmm.”
A long sip of iced tea later, your dad’s voice pipes up again: “What kinda permits you gotta pull for that subdivision on the west side?”
You blinked. “Dad—”
Joel didn’t miss a beat. “Depends on the parcel. New builds gotta go through the county first, then the town for inspection sign-off. If it’s remodels or additions, we skip the land survey.”
Your dad finally looked up, eyes narrowing. “And your license number?”
Joel raised an eyebrow right back. “You wanna write it down?”
That earned a chuckle from your brother across the table, who quickly masked it with a bite of roll.
Your dad gave a grunt that could’ve meant anything, then pointed his fork across the table. “You hunt?”
“Not in a while,” Joel said. “Used to. Mostly just keep a few rifles around now, in case somethin’ needs shootin’.”
Another nod.
Then, after a long pause, your dad took another bite and mumbled around his food, “Built that deck out back myself, y’know. Back in ’98.”
“Yeah, when I was 8 months pregnant and bout ready to burst from stress,” your mom quipped with a little scoff.
Joel, bless him, didn’t so much as smirk. “It’s a good build. Still holdin’ up well.”
Your dad’s fork hovered in the air, then he gave a small, barely-there nod like Joel had just passed some pop quiz of his.
You finally started to relax until he opened his mouth again.
“One last question, Joel,” your dad said casually, sawing through his steak.
Joel’s shoulders tensed slightly. “Yessir.”
Your dad glanced across the table. His eyes flicked to your neck, then to Joel. Then back to you. With his knife, he gestured loosely toward your collarbone.
“That a hickey on my daughter’s neck?”
You nearly choked on your water.
Joel froze, fork halfway to his mouth.
There was a beat of stunned silence before your mom smacked your dad’s arm.
“David.”
“What?” he asked, feigning innocence, still chewing.
Joel cleared his throat. Loudly. “I—uh—must be… a-a nasty bug bite or somethin’.”
You stared down at your plate, cheeks on fire, absolutely refusing to make eye contact with anyone.
Your dad just grinned around another bite, like he’d just scored the winning point in a game no one else knew they were playing.
Later, the two of you ended up shoulder to shoulder in the kitchen, sleeves rolled up, trading off dishes and bumping hips as you loaded the dishwasher and tackled the giant roasting pan your mom had insisted was “vintage, not ancient.”
Joel rinsed a plate, set it in the rack, and glanced at you with a sly grin. “You always this bossy with kitchen duty?”
You shot him a look over your shoulder. “I’m not bossy. I’m efficient.”
“You barely let me step up to the sink before you were shovin’ the dryin’ rag in my hand.”
“I did not.”
“Reckon ya did, sweetheart. And to think I’m just tryna be a good guest.”
You laughed, nudging him with your hip. “I just know where our strengths and weaknesses lie is all.”
“Uh-huh.” He held up the rag and dish in hand dramatically. “Well, I’m puttin’ it on my résumé.”
“Oh yeah? Skills: contracting, firearm safety, surviving dad interrogation, and above-average dish drying?”
He turned to you, eyes playful. “You forgot exceptional boyfriend.”
You pretended to think about it. “Jury’s still out.”
He gave you a mock glare. “Keep talkin’ like that and you’re gettin’ another one of them hickeys on your neck. Right on the other side. Bet your dad would love that.”
Your eyes widened. “Joel.”
“Symmetry,” he said with a shrug, like it was the most reasonable explanation in the world.
Joel stepped back from the counter, towel still in hand, and playfully flicked it toward your backside. You squealed, swatting at him with your sudsy hand, and nearly bumped into the oven.
You were both laughing when the kitchen door creaked open and your dad leaned inside.
Joel straightened like he’d been caught red-handed again, shoulders stiff.
Your dad gave a long look at the two of you, then cleared his throat. “Joel.”
“Yes, sir?”
“You drink beer?”
Joel blinked. “Sure do.”
Your dad nodded once, like he’d already made the decision before asking. “Come out on the porch. I got a few in the cooler.”
Joel shot you a quick look, like he was trying to read if this was good or bad.
You just smiled and mouthed, go.
He followed your dad out, wiping his hands on a dish towel as he went. You watched him go with a little flutter in your chest.
“Oh,” a sudden thought crossed your mind, “daddy?”
Both men turned.
“Yeah, baby?”
“Yes, honey?”
The silence that followed was crippling.
Joel went stiff as a board, like he’d just realized he’d stepped off a cliff and was waiting for gravity to finish the job. His mouth opened, then closed, then opened again. He looked between you and your dad with eyes wide as saucers, face draining of color.
Your dad was staring at him. Hard.
You turned crimson, choking on air. “I—I was just... I was gonna ask if you wanted some—Mom said there was pie for dessert. Or maybe it was cheesecake? I don’t–I don’t know. Actually, let me go ask her.”
You slapped the sponge onto the counter and bolted, eyes on the floor, muttering something that might’ve been English as you fled the kitchen.
You sat curled into the corner of the couch, a slice of pie balanced on your lap and your second glass of wine halfway gone. The living room was dim, lit mostly by the lamp beside your mom’s armchair and the soft flicker from the TV, playing some home renovation show you weren’t really watching.
Your mom leaned back, swirling her wine. “So… he’s cute.”
You smiled behind your fork. “Mmhm.”
“And polite. Little stiff.”
“He was a little nervous. Bein’...” you shrugged, “You know, same age as you guys and all.”
Your mom raised her eyebrows, taking another sip from her glass. “Please. Age is but a number these days. The amount of older men I dated when I was your age…” she chuckled to herself at the memories.
You snorted, shaking your head as you scooped another bite of pie, the quiet of the house settling in around you like a blanket.
She tilted her head, watching you with that knowing, mom-look. “He seems like a good man, honey.”
“He is,” you said softly, nodding.
Your mom’s gaze softened as she looked at you over the rim of her glass. “I see the way he looks at you. The way you two laugh together. It's nice… seeing you like this.”
You felt your smile pull a little deeper, the warmth in your cheeks not just from the wine. “Yeah,” you murmured. “It feels nice, too.”
The moment settled between you, quiet and soft until your thoughts drifted to the porch. You tried not to let your mind wander, but it crept in anyway. Whatever conversation Joel and your dad were having out there… you hadn’t wanted to hear it. After the fiasco in the kitchen you just hoped he was alive. But then you heard the back door open, the low rumble of Joel’s voice, and your dad laughing about something involving backyard irrigation, you knew whatever happened, it hadn’t gone badly.
Joel and your dad stepped into the living room, their voices trailing off mid-conversation.
“—and I told him if he tried to DIY those stone steps without checking the grading, he was gonna bust his ass in the first rain.”
Your dad huffed a laugh. “You’re not wrong. Maybe I’ll call your company in spring.”
Joel just gave a polite smile, his eyes finding yours immediately.
Your mom rose to her feet and crossed the room to kiss him on the cheek, then turned to wrap her arms around you. “Thank you for comin’ tonight. Come back anytime, you two.”
You smiled, hugging her tight. “We will.”
“You picked a good one,” she whispered in your ear, giving you a little squeeze before she headed toward the hallway, bidding you goodnight.
You turned just in time to see Joel and your dad shaking hands. It looked firm, respectful, less like a test this time and more like an understanding.
You crossed the room and kissed your father goodbye, and while he didn’t say much, his hand on your back lingered for a second longer than usual. That was about as close as you were gonna get to a blessing.
You and Joel walked out to the truck in the cool night air, his hand brushing your lower back, just enough to feel steady.
Once inside the cab, he pulled the door shut and let out a massive exhale, sinking into the seat like he’d just survived a firefight.
You grinned at him, cheeks warm from the wine and your heart even warmer.
“You did good tonight,” you said softly.
He looked at you like you’d just handed him a ribbon at the county fair. “Yeah?”
You nodded. “Really good. You survived my dad. Didn’t insult his deck. Kept it very buttoned up.”
He huffed a laugh, “It is a nice deck.”
You leaned your head back against the seat, looking at him through your lashes. “Kinda hot, actually. Watching you all nervous and respectable.”
He gave you a look. “Few times in there I wasn’t so sure. Thought he might shoot me right then and there when he asked about your neck. And don’t get me started on your stunt in the kitchen.”
You groaned and covered your face. “I didn’t meaaaan it.”
Joel chuckled, the sound soft and low as he reached over and gently tugged your hand away from your face. “Still nearly gave both me and your old man a heart attack.”
You grinned at him as he kissed your hand gently, one knuckle at a time, “But you’re my old man.”
He let out a breath, shaking his head as his smile tugged wide and helpless. “Jesus,” he muttered. “You’re gonna be the death of me, darlin’.”
You leaned in, bumping your nose against his. “Worth it.”

"Fushiguro, that's your girl?" One of Toji's block mates asks, eyeing one of the many pictures Toji had of you taped to the slate gray brick wall. It was a simple picture, your hair was wavy in this one, a cute dimply smile, lashes curled as you looked all natural. But god, were you still stunning. Toji looks up from the thing he was doing, sitting in the steel chair that was bolted down to the floor.
"Yup, that's my ol' lady," looking up at the picture he can't help but proudly smile. Toji's wall is covered in pictures. Of you, of Megumi. The whole family. Cute pictures you took with each other before he got locked up. It was his motivation to stay straight while being inside. To remind him of what's waiting for him when he gets out.
The block mate lets out a low whistle, nodding approvingly as he leans back against the cold wall. “Damn. She bad.” His celly's eyes roam over the pictures. Ones where you're dressed up all pretty, makeup done perfectly. Ones where you're wrapped around one of Toji's arms, looking up at him with all the adoration in the world. Even the ones that show just a little too much, which Toji keeps right next to where he lays his head.
Toji chuckles, shaking his head. “Watch it.” There’s no real threat in his voice, but there’s an edge of warning that makes the other guy hold his hands up in surrender.
“Ain’t mean no disrespect, Fushiguro,” he says, still looking at the pictures. “Just sayin’. You lucky.”
Toji doesn’t need to be told that. He already knows. It’s what gets him through the long nights, the endless hum of fluorescent lights, the hostility of the barbed wire that separates him from the outside. Knowing you're out there, waiting, is the only thing that keeps him from losing his damn mind.
He leans back against the desk he sits in front of, arms folding across his broad chest, eyes fixed on the pictures. His ol’ lady. His girl. His anchor in a life that never gave him much stability.
A slow smirk tugs at his lips. He can still hear your voice, that soft, teasing lilt whenever you’d call him by his full name just to mess with him. “Toji Fushiguro,” you’d say, dragging it out, pretending to scold him, even though your eyes always gave you away. He lived for those moments.
“Bet she writin’ you, huh?” the block mate asks. “You get letters?”
Toji nods. “Every week.” And he does. Neatly folded pages that smell like you, inked with words that remind him that he’s still human. That he’s still yours. That he still has something waiting for him beyond these walls. But god, does he miss you.
“Damn,” the block mate mutters, shaking his head in disbelief. “Every week? That’s real love right there.”
Toji just smirks again, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a folded piece of paper, edges worn from being opened and closed too many times. He doesn’t even need to read it again—he’s already memorized every damn word—but still, he unfolds it, running a calloused thumb over the handwriting. Your handwriting.
Hey, baby. I know you hate when I get all mushy, but I don’t care. I miss you. I miss you so much it drives me crazy sometimes. But I’ll wait. However long it takes, I’ll wait. You better be eating, staying out of trouble, and keeping that smart-ass mouth in check. (Okay, maybe not too much. You know I love that about you.)
Toji chuckles to himself, shaking his head. Yeah, you knew him too damn well.
Megumi misses you too, even if he acts all tough about it. You should’ve seen his face when I told him your letter came. He’s just like you, y’know? Won’t say how he really feels, but it’s all there in his eyes.
Toji swallows hard, jaw clenching. Megumi. His kid. Another reason for pushing through this hellhole. He pictures him—too serious for his own good, but with those same sharp blue eyes. His boy.
“Yo, Fushiguro,” another voice calls out, snapping him from his thoughts. One of the guards. “Mail just came in.”
Toji is already up before the guy even finishes his sentence, heart pounding just a little faster. The guard hands the baby pink envelope with a lazy flick of the wrist, and Toji snatches it up quick, already recognizing the familiar scrawl of his name across the front.
His block mate lets out a laugh. “Man, look at you. Actin’ like a kid on Christmas.” Toji was always stoic, kept to himself and never showed much emotion. But hey, you always brought it out of him and he wasn't gonna front or hold a facade when it came to how he felt about you.
Toji doesn’t respond. He just sits back down, thumbs sliding under the flap of the envelope, tearing it open like it’s the only thing keeping him breathing in this godforsaken place. The first thing that falls out is a polaroid. His breath catches. It’s you.
You're sitting by a window, sunlight spilling over your skin, that soft, gentle smile on your lips. His girl. His sweetheart. Looking at him like she sees something in him that even he has trouble believing in sometimes. And just like that, the walls of the prison don’t feel so damn suffocating. He’s got something to hold onto.
Toji runs a thumb over the polaroid, like he could somehow feel you through it. The picture is warm, soft, a stark contrast to the cold steel and concrete around him. He exhales through his nose, staring at it for a long moment before finally unfolding the letter.
Your words hit him like they always do—gentle, teasing, but full of something deeper. Something that reminds him why he’s still holding on.
Hey, baby. I hope you’re not making the guards’ lives too hard. (Who am I kidding? I know you are.) It’s been getting colder here. I keep stealing your hoodie, the one you always say is yours but smells like me now. Tough luck, Fushiguro, it’s mine until you come back and take it from me.
Toji smirks, shaking his head. She’s gonna pay for that one.
Megumi’s been doing good in school, but I had to threaten to ground him just to get him to eat something other than instant ramen. He’s stubborn, just like his old man.
His smirk fades a little. He can picture it—Megumi sitting at the dinner table, arms crossed, trying to act like he doesn’t care. Just like Toji used to. The guilt settles in his chest, heavy and unshakable. He just wishes he could be there. For the both of you.
We miss you. I miss you.
He stops, lingering on that line. Simple, but enough to send a slow ache through his ribs.
I don’t care how long it takes. You come back to me, Toji. We’re waiting.
Toji exhales sharply, pressing the paper between his fingers, his grip a little too tight.
“Damn,” his block mate mutters, watching him. “She really ridin’ for you, huh?”
Toji just nods. He doesn’t need to say anything. He folds the letter carefully, tucking it away with the others. Getting up, he sticks some tape of the back of the polaroid, putting it up next to the rest of the pictures. Then he leans back in his chair, looking up at the mosaic of pictures you send him.
Yeah. She’s waiting. And he sure as hell isn’t gonna let her down.

LaDs Men Getting "She's busy bro" Text
Request: Hi!! I waited patiently (and eagerly) for your requests to open again, I'm so happy!! I love your writing!! I laughed so hard at the previous request where you mentioned Tara. I have another "Tara is on thin ice" idea, lol. Tara and Mc are having a girls night at Mc's place. Mc is cooking or just doing something, mc's receives a message from the lads men (something random like "hi, how are you, I'm off work"). Tara tells Mc she got a message (since Mc is doing something and she can't answer), and mc tells Tara to reply for her. All good and sweet, what does Tara reply with? "Hi, all good, she's busy now, she will talk to you later!" (Basically, the "she's busy bro" prank but with an oblivious Tara that didn't mean to prank them, lol)
AN: Hey anon, I am sorry for how last I am posting this. But thank you for requesting such a fun scenario. I hope you enjoy this!! Might be ooc at times but I am woman of dramatics so excuse me.
Ingredients: 75% fluff , 25% drama
My Fav: Zayne 🥺
Genre: She's busy bro, prank
Pairing: LaDS boys x fem reader
You’re in the kitchen, half-focused on stirring the pasta and half-listening to Tara rant about her latest training match when your phone buzzes on the counter.
“Hey, your phone just lit up,” Tara says, leaning over to check the screen. “It’s one of the guys. Something about ‘how are you?’ and ‘off work.’”
“Just reply for me,” you say, tossing a handful of garlic into the pan. “Tell him I’ll get back to him later.”
Tara shrugs, picking up your phone and squinting at the message. Her thumbs fly over the screen as she replies, “Hi, all good, she’s busy right now, she’ll talk to you later!”
She hits send with a satisfied nod, setting the phone back down without a second thought
Rafayel:
You lunge to catch Tara as she collapses, her hands flying to her throat, her breaths coming out in sharp, choking gasps.
“Tara!” you gasp, your watch buzzing with frantic alerts, the tiny screen flashing red with proximity warnings.
And then you see it. The curving, sinuous tendrils creeping from the edges of the painting on your wall. The one Rafayel gifted you not long ago. The inky black swirls ripple like living shadows, curling toward you.
You snatch your phone from the counter, one arm still braced around Tara’s trembling form, your body blocking her from the painting as the tendrils inch closer. You hit Rafayel’s contact, your finger jabbing the call button with a fury you can barely contain.
He picks up on the first ring, and you don’t give him a chance to speak.
“Stop it. Now.”
There’s a beat of silence on the other end, the sound of crashing waves and distant seagulls crackling through the line, but you don’t flinch.
“I swear to the fucking seas,” you snarl, your voice low and dangerous, “I will never talk to you again if you hurt her.”
There’s a sharp intake of breath on the other end, a flicker of hesitation, and then the tendrils retreat, coiling back into the frame like startled serpents, the air around you cooling as the painting slowly still.
Tara collapses against you, her breathing evening out, her death grip on your arm loosening as she gasps for air. You meet her wide, dazed eyes, your own heart still hammering in your chest.
She gives you a shaky, crooked grin. “That was kinda hot,” she croaks, her lips twitching into a weak, mischievous smile, and your heart melts on the spot.
It takes Rafayel three weeks of pleading, apologizing, and bribing (both you and Tara) to be forgiven for 'the incident'. He sends flowers, chocolates, and a rare pearl necklace that you suspect he made with his anguished cries.
But the painting stays. “For protection,” he insists, his tone defensive, his eyes shifting away from yours when you bring it up. “You’ll thank me one day.”
You roll your eyes, but don’t push it.
Xavier:
He just shows up at your door. Because, of course, he does.
However busy you were, he could stop it. He is a victim to the sunk cost fallacy. If he has to pull you out of some other guy’s orbit, he’ll do it, no hesitation.
He knocks once, twice, each rap firm but patient, the ripped delivery package dangling from one hand, his other tucked casually into his jacket pocket.
The door swings open, and he inhales to deliver his practiced excuse." “Delivered to wr....” He blinks, momentarily thrown off as Tara opens the door, her hair a chaotic mess, pasta sauce smeared up to her cheeks like she’s just face-planted in a pot of marinara.
Behind her, you’re hunched over a massive dish of pasta, a noodle dangling from your lips, your eyes going wide as you choke at the sight of him, your face turning a lovely shade of tomato red.
“Oh, he—uhgh!” you splutter, breaking into a fit of coughing, nearly dropping the fork in your hand.
Xavier’s eyebrow twitches, his frown slowly morphing into a wide grin as his shoulders relax, his eyes sparkling with amusement as he takes in the chaotic scene.
There’s a long, painful beat of silence.
Then Tara, completely unfazed, just wipes her cheek with the back of her hand, shrugs, and steps aside. “You coming in or what, dude?” she says, like this is the most normal thing in the world.
Somehow, Xavier ends up joining your girls’ night, plopping down on the couch, grabbing a fork and helping himself to the monstrous bowl of pasta, because why not?
He makes a few snarky comments about your terrible math skills, but shuts up when you threaten to make him eat his own disastrous cooking as punishment.
Predictably, he’s the first to fall asleep. Conveniently, on your shoulder, his head tucked against your neck, his soft breathing mixing with the faint sound of the movie still playing in the background.
Zayne:
Zayne, of course, doesn’t take the bait.
He’s the only one who doesn’t react to the “She’s busy, bro” text like it’s a declaration of war, because he’s seen this sort of thing before.
As a surgeon, he’s often out of reach, his pager passed off to a resident while he’s deep in the OR, his hands steady, his mind clear as he cuts through flesh and bone. He knows what it’s like to be unavailable, to be occupied with things that demand his full focus.
So when he gets the text, he just blinks at his phone, smiles a little, and sets it down without a second thought, already mentally filing away a dessert he can bring you later, something to help you relax after your busy day.
And he does. He shows up that night, a paper bag in one hand, his coat still smelling faintly of antiseptic and coffee, his sleeves rolled up just enough to reveal the faint lines of old scars.
“Hey,” he says, his voice soft, a little shy, like he’s not sure if he’s intruding. “I brought tiramisu. Thought you could use a break.”
He’s literally the most precious bby, and you have to resist the urge to hug him right there in the doorway.
Sylus:
He’s in the middle of a deal, lounging back in his leather chair.
He checks his phone on a whim, his fingers flicking over the screen, and sees your text. His lips curl into a slow, arrogant smile as he types out a quick, casual, “Hey, what are you up to, sweetie?”
When the "She's busy, she'll call you later," text comes back, the smile freezes on his lips.
Busy? Busy?
His mood sours instantly. His fingers curl around the edge of his desk. He flicks his gaze back to the fumbling dealer in front of him, and his generosity reserves run dry.
“Out.”
The dealer stumbles back, wide-eyed, sweat beading on his forehead as he stammers out a “Y-Yes, sir!” before practically tripping over his own feet to escape the room.
Sylus leans back in his chair, teeth gritted, jaw tight, the soft click of his metal-tipped fingers against the desk the only sound in the now-silent room.
But just as he’s about to mentally spiral, his phone buzzes again.
“Made a pretty big batch of pasta, would you like some?”
He blinks, eyes flicking to the photo you’ve attached. A literal tub of way too much pasta, the noodles piled high, the sauce thick and steaming, a chaotic heap of carbs that only you and Tara could possibly miscalculate into existence.
He huffs, a quiet, exasperated chuckle slipping past his lips, the tension in his shoulders melting away. He leans back, his head tipping against the cool leather of his chair, a small, fond smile curling at the corners of his mouth.
“I’ll be there in 20. Don’t start without me.”
And just like that, his mood is ruined in a completely different way, his dark, dangerous aura slipping into something much softer as he straightens his tie and stands, already picturing you waiting with a bright grin and a mismatched fork.
Caleb:
“Why does she get to use your phone and I don’t?” Caleb storms around your apartment, his boots clomping against the hardwood floor, his uniform still perfectly pressed.
It’s been an hour of this. A Fleet Colonel throwing a full-on tantrum in your tiny studio, pacing like a caged animal, his jaw clenched, his fingers flexing at his sides as if he’s debating strangling the nearest pillow. You did put your plushies away at the first given chance.
Pouting. Whining. Sharp, accusing glances thrown your way every time you so much as move.
You’re honestly grateful that Tara had left before this. She’d probably just laugh and egg him on, and you don’t need two chaotic messes in your living room right now.
“Caleb, I was busy,” you try to reason, leaning against the kitchen counter as he paces. “I didn’t want to leave you hanging.”
He whirls to face you, his eyes dark, his jaw ticking, his hair somehow still perfectly in place, untouched by the cap he’d clearly ripped off the second he stormed through your door. Your mind unhelpfully drifts to the way that uniform clings to his shoulders, the way his collar hugs his throat, and nope, now is not the time for that.
“Busy?” he spits, his voice a low, irritated rumble. “Busy with what? And why with her, exactly?”
You sigh, pressing a hand to your forehead, already exhausted from the emotional hurricane that is Caleb. “I was cooking, Caleb. With Tara. I didn’t want to leave you hanging, so I asked her to text you back.”
He scoffs, his shoulders tense, his eyes narrowing like he’s daring you to try that excuse again.
Rage bait Tara is Colonel Caleb’s worst nightmare come to life. Given how you never seem to care how close she gets to you, how easily she invades your space, how unapologetically she teases you.
Much to Caleb’s dismay, you never seem to mind.

Almost Caught
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x reader
Summary: You sneak out with Bucky for a secret date and almost get caught.
Word Count: 723
Warnings: humor, fluff, secret dating, lying to friends (for romance reasons!)
A/N: this is kind of a sequel to "you said what?" — it’s the same vibe, same chaotic energy, but it can totally be read on its own! just think of it as part of the same soft universe 💕 hope you enjoy this <3
You never thought your most romantic date would start with crawling out of a window and jumping two stories down into Bucky’s arms—right behind the dumpsters.
“I can’t believe this is how we have to go out,” you whisper, pulling your hoodie tighter.
Bucky grins at you, eyes sparkling. “Come on. You love the danger. Sneaking out like spies.”
You roll your eyes— but he’s right. You do kind of love it. Especially when he leans in and kisses you, right there in the alley, his hand cupping your jaw like you’re the best thing he’s ever held.
The two of you walk a few blocks, laughing quietly, until you reach the rooftop of an old bakery. It’s not fancy, but it’s cozy. Your spot. The stars are out tonight, the sky clear and dark, and it feels like something out of a dream.
Bucky opens a bag he brought with him. “Ta-da.”
You peek inside. Burgers. Fries. Milkshakes. From that place you both secretly love, Cheesy Billy’s Burgers, but refuse to tell the team about, because Tony called it culinary war crime once.
You sit side by side, your legs swinging over the edge of the roof. You eat, you talk, and you laugh so hard you almost choke on your soda. Bucky watches you with that soft look of his, like you’re the most important thing in the universe. Like the stars are nice, sure—but not better than you.
“Y’know,” he murmurs, “if we didn’t have to sneak around like teenagers—”
“We’d still come here,” you say, nudging his foot with yours. “This is our spot.”
He smiles and leans closer. “Yeah. Our spot.”
And he kisses you. Soft, slow, perfect. The kind that makes your heart ache in the best way.
Then—
You hear voices below. Familiar ones.
“Wait—this is where they get the good fries?” Sam says. “Why have we never been here?”
You both freeze.
You slowly peek over the edge of the roof. Sam and Peter are standing below, staring at the bakery’s glowing sign.
“Oh my god,” you whisper. “We’re gonna get caught. On our date night. While eating greasy fries.”
Bucky’s already stuffing fries in his mouth. “I’m not giving these up.”
You stare at him. “Are you serious right now?!”
“I have priorities,” he mumbles around a fry.
You both scramble to hide. Bucky throws his hoodie over your head like a blanket and pulls you into the shadows. You’re both giggling, trying to be quiet. Bucky looks like he’s having the time of his life.
Below, Sam looks up for a second, squinting. “…Did you hear something?”
Peter shrugs. “Maybe a raccoon?”
You whisper, “We are the raccoons.”
Somehow, you manage to escape without being seen.
Back at the compound, breathless and laughing in the hallway, Bucky presses you against the wall and kisses you again.
“Next time,” he murmurs, “I’m buying us disguises.”
“…Like wigs?”
He grins. “I was thinking matching mustaches.”
You snort-laugh so hard, someone passing by stares at you suspiciously.
In the next morning , you’re minding your business in the common room, nursing a coffee, when you hear “Yo, Bucky… since when do you eat at Cheesy Billy’s Burgers?”
Your stomach drops.
You turn just in time to see Sam waving a greasy, crumpled receipt like it’s evidence in a murder case.
“Found this in your jacket pocket, man. Thought you hated that place.”
Bucky blinks. Looks at you. Then back at Sam.
“I… don’t remember going there.”
Classic.
Natasha, from the couch “Wasn’t that the night you said you were doing recon?”
Tony walks in with a mug. “Wait, wait—Bucky Barnes ordered a Double Cheesezilla with extra onion rings and a milkshake. Who are you?”
You’re biting your lip so hard trying not to laugh, you might bleed. Bucky looks at you, then back at them, completely straight-faced.
“Maybe it was Steve’s jacket?” Bucky offers. “Old jacket. Probably Steve.”
Steve, walking by “What?”
“Nothing.” Bucky blurts.
Later, in the hallway, you tackle him into a storage closet and whisper, “You kept the receipt?!”
“You said it was the best burger you’d ever had. I panicked and wanted to remember the order.”
Your heart melts. “You’re unbelievable.”
He shrugs, grinning. “You love me.”
You kiss him, just once. “Unfortunately, yes.”
A/N: i wrote a part 3 about them. if you want to check it out here it is <3
