soap's whole deal being sniper and demolitions gets me going bc on the surface they sound so different but when you get into it, you realise it's bc soap's smart

sniping is all math; calculating distances and wind interference and bullet drop. something i think people overlook is he was listed as a sniper first so it can be implied that he's better at it than demolitions. he does more sniping in both campaigns than demolitions work; in capture or kill, ghost specifically calls on him to take down the aq snipers

and demolitions is math with a hit of chemistry; knowing what mixes with what, knowing how much to use, recognising environmental factors and adjusting accordingly. it's not just about the boom; so much work goes into contained/ planned explosions. especially when having enough power for a breacher charge and not bringing down the whole building is the difference between mission success and failure

the chemical bombs he makes in alone can't just be any old cleaners, they have to have the correct reaction to each other; he just knew off the top of his head what would mix with what to create what reaction. he would also potentially have to recognise them by sight/smell bc they would’ve been written in spanish

soap would also have to know architecture; recognising structural integrity and weak points so he knows exactly where to plant a charge to bring it down and how it'll come down

he has an incredible soldier's mind people just forget that bc he's sociable which itself is a skill

we know he tends to buck against orders he doesn't agree with like when he pushes back against ghost in capture or kill and shepherd when he tells them to release hassan

he gets closer to people and sees if he can trust them and that's when he follows them without question. really think about how he talks to alejandro and rudy; he asks about their home and alejandro's family and rudy's relationship with him. those aren't questions you ask a stranger after a few hours of knowing them. that's not even touching on his relationship with ghost

he also deliberately brings people of higher ranks down to his level; talking informally with ghost and giving him a shoulder punch, addressing alejandro (a colonel!!) by his first name and rudy by his nickname despite literally just meeting them. he personalises all of them and it’s in direct opposition to the reason most characters do that; it’s not due to insubordination or lack of respect, the more he respects and trusts someone, the more casual he is with them

he digs into people; he wants to know what makes them tick and that determines if he can one, trust them and two, follow their orders. once he decides that, he's the ultimate soldier; he bleeds loyalty which makes him vicious when that loyalty is taken for granted

he isn't naive or bubbly or insecure; he's an incredibly smart and aware soldier. he's aggressive and bloodthirsty and loyal and intuitive and i love him so much

I honest to God think a lot of the moral fears surrounding whether you think about your f/os enough or if you comfort your f/os enough in your mind or if YOU do enough FOR your f/os can... really and truly be answered simply by being reminded that they aren't real. you do not morally owe any of your f/os your time, effort, or emotional availability. because they aren't real, and you are. and it's OKAY to say this. it will never be immoral to acknowledge we daydream and draw fanart for ourselves and our joy because we're real people, they're not, they don't need anything from you. don't exert yourself worrying about people who don't exist.

Regulus sat at the slytherin table, eyes staring at nothing. Mind lost in a daze. He doesn't know when he started watching his brother across the hall, laughing with his idiot friends, but he can't seem to look away.

He was supposed to be with them. That's what Sirus had wanted. Regulus knew his brother hoped he would he sorted into gryffindor just like him. But Regulus can't be something he's not. He can't control where the hat placed him. But it didn't matter.

He remembered the look on his brother's face when the hat immediately called out slytherin. The disappointment. The betrayal. All over something Regulus had no say in. The hat didn't even give him a chance to argue.

Sirius hasn't spoken to him since it happened. Regulus has tried but his brother always manages to avoid him. How could he have lost him so easily? He's not like the rest of them...shouldn't Sirius believe that?

After twenty minutes of not touching his food, Regulus decided to leave the hall. It was too loud and too upsetting. He went and sat in an alcove near the library. He looked out at the night sky, the stars just beginning to appear.

He scans the sky and finds Sirius immediately. He sat looking at his brother's star, eyes tearing up a little. "What did I do wrong?" His voice small and quiet. "I- I didn't choose where i was sorted....I'm not brave like you.......but I'm not bad like them.......please don't think me like them....."

Two weeks pass. His brother still avoiding him. It hurts. It feels like he's lost him in a matter of days. Lost years of love. Years of secrets. Years of their childhood. Gone. Over a stupid hat.

Now all Regulus can do is watch from the outside. He should've seen this coming. Should've known he'd be sorted in a place that would disappoint his brother. Should've known those friends he made were Regulus' replacements. His sadness was bubbling into anger, something he hated feeling. But he couldn't help but be angry at his brother. Angry that he obviously doesn't trust Regulus. Doesn't trust that he's still the same little brother he was.

In his angry daze, he walked right into someone. He looks up at who he bumped into. It shouldn't be surprising with his luck, but he's shocked he managed to run into his brother with Sirius avoiding him like the plague. Regulus just stared at him, mouth dry, eyes wide. He couldn't speak. He wouldn't even know what to say.

Sirius broke the silence by clearing his throat. "Sorry, I didn't see you there." And with nothing more to say, he started to walk away.

Regulus felt like he had been stabbed.

Weeks of pure silence and that was all he gets?

He turned around, watching him leave. "Sirius-" he choked out.

Sirius paused, clearly hesitant. He turned back around to face his brother. "What, Reg?" He sighed.

"I-" Regulus had his brother. He wasn't ignoring him. He had to use this. "Why have you been avoiding me?" He tried to keep his voice level. "I didn't choose slytherin. I got put there. But you've been acting like I did it on purpose." He felt his eyes sting. "I'm not brave like you. I was never going to be in your house. But I'm still your brother. At least I want to be..."

Sirius sighed. "Reg..."

"What? Tell me, Sirius. Tell me what I did wrong. Tell me why you've given up on me so easily." Regulus was lucky nobody else was in the hall. He felt the words coming out before he could think about what they were. "Can't you for one second think of me as my own person rather than the house I'm in? Why does it matter so much?"

Sirius shuffled his feet. "I just hoped things would be different."

Regulus stared at Sirius, eyes wide and full of disbelief. "Different? Different?! I'm sorry, I wasn't aware things changed so much in a single month of school! Though you wouldn't know since you've been nowhere near me!" He was shouting now.

"How am I supposed to trust that you're different? That you won't be like them??"

"Because you know me!!" Regulus' voice broke. Silence echoed. "At least you're supposed to..."

He couldn't hold back the tears anymore, a few slipping down his cheeks.

"Please, Siri...I'm still me..."

Sirius' face faltered, softening a little. He sighed, walking towards his brother. He pulled him into a hug.

Regulus' breath hitched, trying not to choke out tears, as he relaxed into his brother.

"I'm sorry, Reggie...really, I am. I just...I got scared that they'd gotten to you in the year I was gone."

Regulus buried his face into Sirius. "They did...a lot...but I-...I get to be here...for now...and I don't want to be them...I want to be me."

He could feel Sirius lightly smiling. "You be you, Reggie...you be you."

@minimooberry : Honestly, she's the reason why I even pursued rendering in blender and her stuff is probably the only reason why I even joined Simblr to begin with 🥹

@stellarfalls : Bree, the LEGEND, has inspired me in a lot of ways but the biggest one was her GIFS... I remember seeing her post of Rohan and Hana's first meeting and that sparked a light in my chest... I wanted oh so badly to make Gifs as good as her... I'm getting there but we all have different styles so it'll never be exact and I know my gifs will be good in their own way 🫶

@birdietrait : Their overall sim style just... idk its so good and loved it when I first saw their posts 🥹

@groovetrys : Her general editing style was a HUGE inspiration for me, I can't quite explain or pinpoint it but I LOVE her editing its sooo aesthetically pleasing

I should mention that all my mutuals inspire me one way or another, the community as a whole has inspired me to be kinder and inspired me to just spout my adoration for peoples' work

Finally knitted Halloween socks that I've been meaning to knit since I bought this yarn last year!

The yarn is from "SavannahRoseHandmade" from the 90s Halloween Collection (sold out now UGH [understandable, but UGH]) and is visually inspired by the movie Scream (1996). I saw the colour pooling effect on their sample swatch when they shared the yarn collection images on Reddit last year, and was immediately like, 'Holy shit it's just like CRT TV static!!' And I had to get it. (And then life happened and I didn't get around to knitting them until now lol).

And unfortunately, I'm SO IN LOVE WITH IT!! THE EFFECT DID TRANSLATE TO SOCKS AND NOW IT'S LIKE, AHHH I NEED MORE. I don't know if I have enough yarn left to make an additional pair, so I'll have to figure out how to weigh it and the socks and see if the weight compares (really don't wanna end up with 3 socks and not enough for the 4th lol). But yeah. I'm so glad I got to do this. The yarn colouration was SO fun to work with, and the yarn was a nice and smooth 1-ply which was a huge relief from the fluffy yarn on the socks I'd been working on just before this. And yes, I did intentionally take this photo in front of those books because of the spiral-ish pooling.

Can I just also... like... holy fuck, man. I LOVE when yarn pools into unique patterns. It's the best phenomenon ever. And especially like for this one being black and white? That subtle grey transition from stark white to pitch black is EVERYTHING. Like I never would have thought one could create yarn that would pool EXACTLY like TV static rolling down the screen when knit. Major nostalgia vibes. I can feel the forcefield.

Also, started these babies September 27 and finished the second sock today October 3rd, which may be a new record for me knitting socks, I was so fucking excited. I even have a big ole 'writers bump' on my finger from the way I hold my knitting needles lmao (was also knitting a different pair of socks before this, too), and my arthritis is Not happy, but screw you, arthritis! I'M HAPPY.

Side note: it would be cool to pair this yarn with like a red addition somehow. Get a Saw vibe going bc of the TV static pooling effect. (I do love Scream though.) Or you could even probably take it a The Ring route with like a fly applique or something. So many horror movie staples with TV static effect, and not enough Scream yarn to test them out!!

I had my new tooth and doll eye stitch markers going. I DO have bloody murder weapon stitch markers, but none of them are a buck knife (Ghostface's weapon), so I went for general Halloween vibes instead (even tho I use stitch markers like this year-round lol).
