Personally I think say that reader blushed without including the color— eg. “blushed a bright pink” “their face turned a deep red” — is fine (sorry if I stated otherwise 😭)

Cause POC people still blush. Our faces still heat up. Whether it’s visible or not? That’s the question.

But if you still want alt ways here are some I’ve seen in fics.

“Their face felt hot”

“Their cheeks burned”

“Their cheeks heated”

“Their face warms”

“Their face flushed” (some people might be iffy on this one, personally I don’t have a problem)

I find any descriptors that don’t use color are neutral so it can work for everyone cause obviously some people can’t turn bright red :)

Sterek x Percy Jackson au

Derek Hale, son of Talia Hale, is running through the forest as something is chasing after him. His mother had told him when he was younger that they were different from everyone else. They can grow claws, heal from wounds faster than humans, and in rare cases like his mother, they can full-shift into a real wolf. At a certain point, though, she had told him that other things would be after him because his biological father was actually a god. That was certainly a revaluation.

So, in this moment, Derek isn't quite sure who or what it is, exactly, that's after him. Doesn't really matter, he guesses, since whether it's because he's a werewolf or a demi-god, whoever this is just wants him dead.

Miltiadis Stilinski, otherwise known as Sheriff Stilinski's son, Stiles, doesn't really know or understand why he really wanted to go out into the forest this late at night. He really doesn't! He just suddenly felt this deep pull to go on a walk in the preserve. Not like he's that worried, nothing interesting ever happens to him. Not at home, not at school, and certainly not out here.

Of course, right when he thinks that, he's being tackled to the ground out of nowhere and can't help but release a groan of pain.

After a near death experience for the both of them, Stiles still feeling a pull walks the rest of the way to... a big tree stump? Derek having stayed with him, sniffs out magic, that's perhaps divine? since it smells similar to themselves. Stiles hops up onto the stump, trips, and suddenly the forest looks different than before.

With Derek having followed him to make sure he was alive and unharmed, they explore the new area and come across some sort of settlement. Hearing something getting closer to them, Derek puts himself in front of Stiles, ready to attack. The figure had stopped a bit away from the pair, so neither of them are able to do anything. But it doesn't matter, something in the air shifts and it must be bad because in the next second Derek’s attacking the person with strength Stiles didn't know he still had after the monster they just dealt with.

The wolf is thrown back, but the figure doesn't follow through to continue the fight. Stiles turns a bit to see if Derek’s alright, making sure not to completely turn his back on this being. When he does, however, there's a glowing light in the shape of a boar's head that's casting a red light onto the boy on the ground.

"I'm not surprised," the stranger laughs, not unlike a drunk uncle. They take a sip out of a can of something that they pulled out of who knows where before continuing, "congratulations, kid. Spirit of battle, and what not. You're the son of Ares, the God of war."

When they’re talking about how long it’s been since they were around mortals, the pack overhears.

Percy makes a snide comment about Lydia, “Y’know Wise Girl, with those smarts of hers, she might be one of yours,”

Annabeth scowls at him, “As if, Seaweed Brain. Besides, Banshees were always more of Apollo’s thing, branches of the Oracle and all that. Redheads are his preference too if I remember.”

Will turned around to give her a small glare, “Hey, watch it with the badmouthing, just cuz you’re insulting Percy doesn’t mean you get to poke fun at me. Or Rachel.”

“She’s a banshee, Solace. Toneless screeching and telling the future, isn’t that basically all your cabin does?”

“I wouldn’t expect you to understand music, Annabeth, what with your nose stuck in a book all the time.”

“There’s no way-” Peter started.

“Plus she called him Apollo, and he responded to it.” Stiles pointed at Annabeth then at Will.

Percy started laughing, “Look who blundered it this time, Smartypants,” Percy smiled mockingly.

“Honestly, it doesn’t matter what you say, I’d bet ten drachmas that kid is one of yours, Annabeth. He’s got Owl written all over him.” Piper giggled.

The girl in front glared back at her friend, then scanned Stiles up and down, “Not directly, but yes, I believe he is.”

“Can somebody please explain what’s happening?! What are you people talking about?!” Isaac yelled.

All of the -they were gods!- seemed to step into line in front of them, mostly staring at Stiles.

“Well, kid? You have a theory, defend it. You’ve got a choice on how this goes.” Percy said.

Stiles gulped, “I said I think you are the Greek Gods, or at least the embodiment of them. That part I’m not sure on, I haven’t done any research and-“

Annabeth narrowed her eyes in calculation and then barked something out in Greek, cutting over Stiles, “πηγαίνετε μαζί με αυτά που λέει.” Go along with whatever he says.

Percy looked a bit surprised and not happy with whatever she said, Nico and Piper as well. They opened their mouths to protest but she cut them off, “πρέπει να κρατήσουμε τα στρατόπεδα κρυμμένα.” We have to keep the camps hidden.

“This isn’t the only way, Annabeth, my magic could easily erase-“

“No. We came with a goal here and at least one of them is clear sighted. Stiles, is it?”

“Yes?” He hesitated.

“You call us gods but do you know which gods of the pantheon we are? Names have power. So, Stiles, name at least three of us our ancient names.”

Her friends looked confused at her, but went along with it.

“Uh, what!? I just met you! And I’m not even a hundred percent sure I know all of the Greek gods!”

“Consider it a test, Mieczyslaw Stilinski.” Her eyes urged him forward.

“Uh huh, uhhhh…. So the Blond Guy in back is Apollo, obviously, I mean really, you chose the last name Solace? Obviously the god of the sun.”

The kid seemed to glow a bit for a second before nodding and looking back to Annabeth. “And I think, I mean- I’m pretty sure that, you’ve got to be Athena, which is why they said Wise Girl, and owls are of course your holy animal,”

She smiled and nodded, “of course. One more.”

Crap. They hadn’t given away anything else, Stiles had been to caught up in his realization that they were gods he hadn’t even tried to connect which ones. Other than Apollo and did Athena say he was related to her?

Stiles looked at each of the people in front of him desperately, till his eyes froze on the sea-green ones in front of him. Sea-green. Sea. Green. Sea. Athena called him Seaweed brain. The smell of the ocean Scott described. A god of the sea who doesn’t like Athena…… Stiles face drained of color,

“Poseidon.”

“Well, what’d’ya know. He actually got it, I definitely would’ve lost a couple drachmas on that one.” Percy-Poseidon!- chuckled a bit and shifted his weight back. “Maybe I should check with Fortuna.”

it’s never that serious ppl make black reader fics all the time if they don’t have those small details the fic will js be boring☠️

It is that serious bc I think it’s that serious 🤷🏽‍♀️ and no they don’t??? What planet are you living on the only time I ever see black reader fics is if by chance a POC writer had one of their fics get attention and that rarely happens either. Those “small details” can be altered, and not even majorly, to include at least the rest of the population in race. I’m not saying it has to be every single fic that needs to be inclusive towards everyone (though that would be nice) but asking for at least half of the fics that flood the tags to have, at the very least, neutral descriptions doesn’t sound like a big ask.

PS - if you’re depending on the reader being able to flush red like a tomato or throw her hair up in a cute messy bun for a story to be engaging and entertaining you can hop on over to Wattpad and read the x reader fics there; it’s their specialty.
