The prince, the magician and the physician
Summary when the witchfinder accuses you of having magic you must convince Arthur that your feelings for the boy have never been disingenuous. And Merlin must race against the clock to save you but can you be saved? Can your relationship with Arthur? Can love truly conquer Arthurâs prejudice?
Italics mean flashbacks
Word count: about 8k
Warning: torture, mention of execution, feeling betrayed, readers anxious, reader accepts death, canon divergence (but same overarching plot), Arthur may be a bit ooc sorry!

â.àłàż*:
The witch finders arrival had you and Merlin in shambles he had already been pointing fingers and he had been in Camelot for nearly a day and already had been accusing people of having magic.
What was worse, he had witnesses. Three girls from the lower town who had been seeing traces of magic a man coughing up a frog from his throat, to a goblin dancing in the flames of a dying fire. To faces of the drowned in the well. with every confession you sent an angry glare to Merlin beside you, since he was the reason this witch finder had been called in the first place.
Fear bubbled in your throat when the witchfinder said he already had suspects. and who the witchfinder had accused happened to be yourself, Merlin, and the lady morgana.
It was day three when he found âproofâ you were a witch. (Of course you were but the proof was bogus. It wasnât yours.)
It wasnât Merlinâs either, it was an amulet poorly hidden in a pot. Neither yourself nor Merlin were skilled with charming jewellery, and you couldnt wear bracelets whilst being the court physicians apprentice, besides when would you even have the time to charm jewellery? Between saving Arthur, being gauisâs apprentice, and watching over Merlin you never had a second to breathe.
But despite having never seen the amulet in your life you knew the witchfinder would see no sense. Men like that never would, and what was worse the witchfinder happened to be an old friend of gauis, with a reputation based on brutality and hatred. He despised magic with a passion if he suspected you, you were already as good as dead.
But you couldnât let Merlin die by the hands of the witchfinder, Merlin had far too much life ahead of him.
He had to protect Arthur. He had to unite Albion. he had to live long enough to see Arthurâs rule And believe me There was nothing you wanted more than to see Arthur unite Albion and bring magic to the land But you werenât the one destined to unite Albion, you were however destined to protect those you loved and some part of you was okay with dying for the cause of keeping your family safe.
and if you were asked if you regretted taking the fall for Merlin or gauis, of course youâd say no. He was your best friend and gauis was like a grandfather to you. Youâd let them sentence you to death a thousand times over if it meant Merlin was safe. If gauis was safe.
âSearch through that cupboard and under the bed!â The witch finders commanding voice called out to the guards as they tore apart gauisâs chambers you were aware by now that the moment he walked in heâd already deemed you guilty.
By the way His eyes narrowed like a predator to prey, the atmosphere was tense like heâd been preparing to go for the kill for awhile now. and disgust permeated from his figure in waves this man watched you like you were the dirt on his shoe, some small disgusting insect that deserved to die if he even thought you had magic.
Sharing a nervous glance at gauis your hands wringing nervously in your lap as you watched these knights destroy your home your gaze asked gauis the same question heâd been dreading, where was Merlinâs spell book?
If you were going to go down for magic paraphernalia you fully thought it would be because of Merlinâs spell book not some poorly disguised amulet that wasnât yours in the first place.
Leon had been the one to find the amulet a haunted look in his eyes you could tell Leon did not want to do this, but honour bounded the knights more than kinship. More than years spent with each other from childhood sparring, to treating his wounds when Leon grew from a bashful baby faced boy into a lean young man practicing to become a knight.
He was honour bound to tell this monster what he found And youâd hate to see Leon burned beside you under the guise of solidarity. It was better for one to burn than two.
âAn. enchanted. amulet.â The witchfinder spoke slowly as he inspected the Jewlery, every word sealing your fate ïżœïżœwhose is this? Perhaps the boy Merlin Or the girls? Or even yours, old friend.â The witch finder sneered pointing his finger in your face as he circled gauis and yourself like you were prey
Your horror filled eyes flickered to gauis and you watched as his mouth opened and his eyes flashed with familiar selflessness it was clear, what the old man was going to do, he loved his little family as much as you did and youâd hate to see the old man take the blame for you or Merlin again.
living with gauis has already been enough of a burden you couldnât let him die for something he had no part in (not that you did either but you were nothing if not loyal.) your heart constricted in your chest, your stomach dropping
One of you would surely be executed for this but you would not let it be Merlin, or gauis. It would be you before it ever was them.
Taking a shaky breath you stepped forward your hand out to block gauis front from stopping you âitâs mine.â
And the beat of your heart deafened you the room went deadly silent guards hands went to their swords ready for anything, in the corner of your eye gauisâs face went ghostly pale filled with horror as he watched his youngest apprentice, the girl he practically raised as if his own stare down this false god with cold eyes the sent fear shooting through gauis, you were capable you like Merlin had the ability to destroy your enemies without lifting a finger but gauis knew you better than for you to defend yourself. But you would be brave braver than anyone else.
You steeled yourself infront of the witchfinder your eyes narrowed dangerously. You did not take kindly to those attempting to ruin your family.
âGuards.â With one word the witch finder sealed your fate, looking to gauis behind you, your eyes only let your guard slip for a moment and the old man saw the burning fear that filled your gaze. As Leonâs hands restrained you with hesitation.
âyou canât!â Gauis called pointedly to the witchfinder âitâs not hers! she doesnât know what sheâs saying.â Gauis pleaded desperately after you seething from where he stood, he would not watch another child die.
you felt your heart break for the man who was like your father. âLeon, please.â You pleaded to Leon to release your hands for just a moment and the man youâve known since childhood released his grip for only a second it was enough for you to break his hold and sprint to take gauis in a hug
Crashing into his arms you closed your eyes blinking away tears And you muttered the one phrase that could save you, that could reverse this fatal mistake, the one thing that stopped the panic in gauis for only a moment âItâs not mine.â
Before Leonâs hands had pulled you from gauisâs comforting arms, your tearful eyes met gauis and you expected to be met with fear but a newfound determination in gauisâs face calmed you, hope filled your heart Merlin would find a way to save you he always did.
Leon bent your hands behind your back and lead you down the halls of the castle
The witchfinder leading you through the halls, your Druid communication had been the most useful in situations like this, situations where Merlin was nowhere to be found
âMerlin, if you can hear this please find a way to get me out of this. The witchfinder has accused us of using magic be careful. Help me Merlin, Please find Arthur.â You didnât get a response despite the fact You had never begged and you never had sounded quite as hopeless as you did then, even when you were behind enemy lines, in enemy dungeons it was different.
They werenât your friends, werenât your family sentencing you to die this was.
As you were dragged through the halls Camelot knights walked all around you, their billowing red capes with the golden dragon crest that once brought you so much comfort now brought only dread, the burning memory being wrapped up in Arthurâs cape on a hunting trip once dearly reminisced now just felt cruel.
â.àłàż*:
The braying of horses and the taps of hooves on the ground as you, the knights, Arthur and Merlin set off on a hunt you found it silly to be hunting for game for fun but you couldnât refuse the invite considering you were arthurs personal physician recommended by gauis (and Merlin babysitter) and atleast you were with your closest friends who are the loyalist of loyal.
As opposed to being stuck in gauisâs chambers mulling over books like you do almost daily youâd take any possible time with Arthur especially away from prying eyes.
The sun was starting to go down and you were too far away from Camelot to head home so Arthur called it and youâd be camping in the woods tonight, you didnât mind. It was nice to camp under the stars with your friends away from all the expectations, The watchful eyes. Camelot was home but it was growing increasingly more dangerous.
Here, in the forest with Arthur and Merlin and the knights you were more than just a physician you were equal. You were more then just lower class, you were free and here under the constant cover of trees and the darkening blanket of the setting sun you could be more than some backup physician, you were just y/n. And Prince Arthur was just Arthur.
And if you could have just cupped this moment in your hands and held it tightly to your chest you would have.
Camped by a large oak tree in Arthurâs arms his red cape with the golden pendragon sigil covered your body from the elements keeping you safe and warm and in the light of the fire there was no fear, no worry about expectations. Or watching eyes all that mattered was being truly yourself with the man you love in his arms unashamed.
When sleep finally stole you away from Arthur Merlin couldnât stop the question that was brewing for months âdo you love her?â The young man asked scouring the ground with a stick his arms rested on his knees as he watched the couple together Merlin knew this would turn out badly his best friend, a physician with no title dating the crowned prince of Camelot? A recipe for disaster
He knew what his destiny foretold, he knew the perils and he knew that your role in destiny would surely not let this freedom, this unabashed love stay happy. There could be no room for happiness when you had magic.
âOf course I love her.â The prince found himself telling Merlin hesitation in his voice fear rolling from him in waves, by now it was the late hours of the night, the knights and yourself long since asleep and Merlin and Arthur the only ones still awake
âYou know your father would never approve?â Merlin spoke assured that if uther found out youâd most likely be executed
âI know that Merlin, but one day it will be different my father will have no say and I will be king when I am king I want her- to be my queen.â Arthurâs fingers run through your hair softly a promise Arthur swore to himself he would keep his arms wrapping tightly around your waist the soft sound of your breathing calming Arthurâs pounding heart he knew this was reckless and senseless but this was love. And love has no logic.
â.àłàż*:
Now a bitter taste of betrayal sat heavily on your shoulders as you were flanked by those you call friends as they lead you to your death you couldnât blame them itâs not their fault they have to follow uther but it leaves a horrible taste in your mouth
How things had changed.
It was sad to feel Leonâs grip firm but not brutish still trying not to hurt you as if he wasnât leading you to what would be your death. You were aware from the moment Arthur managed to steal your heart youâd end up on the gallows or burnt at the stake or youâd face death in battle intentionally scheduled by uther. He hated anyone who was not of noble blood for Arthur.
And No good ever came from destiny, and if it was your destiny to die in place of your loved ones youâd die a valiant death. But it didnât stop the shake in your hands.
You could mask your fear you would not give the witchfinder what he wants. He would not break you.
But leon could feel the shake in your hand and feel the erratic beat of your heart from the pulse point on your wrist and he wanted nothing more than to damn the consequences and save you but he couldnât. you could only rely on Merlin to prove the witchfinder a fraud and you to be innocent you could only pray for Arthurâs forgiveness. After your innocence is proven.
But the horrible feeling of dread that was building in your stomach as they were leading you into the dungeons a cell- no doubt already made up- And down every step you felt like throwing up when you finally made it to the bottom of the stair case the scent of wet earth and straw filled your nose the bricks that lined the dungeon and its torches that burned steadily along the side of the stairs made you feel ill.
The witch finder swung open the first vacant cell and Leon was forced to keep you there walking you the the center of the room, the suns rays that slipped through the cracks of the small window warmed your face but it didnât comfort you, soon the sun would be your clock, your tally mark for your final night alive if Merlin failed.
Leonâs hands left yours and still the ache in your shoulders stayed âIâm sorryâ he spoke lowly in your ear before he stepped away you turned to finally face your friend
âLeon, let Arthur know Iâm sorryâ You called to the man who grew up beside you who had been growing up pledging to die for Camelot even if that meant dying young he never expected the young girl with so much light in her eyes, and gentleness that always managed to calm her patients, he never thought sheâd be the one on deaths door before him.
Before the man could reply the witch finger slammed the cell door shut and sneered through the bars ânot to worry heâll find out soon enough.â
Your heart constricted in your chest as you watched them all walk away the iron in the Camelot dungeons nullifying your powers and your connection with Merlin you couldnât hear his reply to your plea you were well and truly alone you could of course break out from the cells the iron didnât make you powerless only dulling your connection with the earth, the place your power comes from. But you couldnât put your friends at risk.
â.àłàż*:
It was hours later when guards came to haul you away to your sentencing, heavy iron handcuffs clicked into place over your hands large chains weighing you down & tight enough to make the skin on your wrists rub painfully.
As Guards lead you through the castle to the throne room, there you stood at the large mahogany double doors two guards on either side as they flung the doors open all your friends and family, all your previous patients were standing there watching as the witchfinder lead you in as the number one suspect, the guilty witch. two guards gripped your arms and threw you to the ground in front of the king, a man who youâve spent countless hours mending, and stitching up alongside gauis.
Your hands shook as your knees took the brunt of the force, your chains rattling from where you were you couldnât see Merlin, or gauis. But You could feel Merlinâs energy over the crowd
âIâm going to get you out of this y/n, I swear.â Merlin promises to you through your Druid telepathy and you bit back the tears as You scowled at the sight of the ground. you couldnât bare look up at the sight of morgana in front of you, of Arthur infront of you fear that youâll see nothing but disgust, embarrassment and regret on his face.
âHere is the first witch Iâve uncovered in my short time here in Camelot. The court physicians apprentice. The princes! Physician!â Every word the witch finder spoke booms over the crowd as he exclaims to the counsel shock no doubt painted their faces youâve treated every single person in this room and youâve used magic on quite a few to save them. Why was that a bad thing? If you have the power to save someone was that not the right thing to do? Magic is not bad but people are.
âWHO can imagine what she could have used on the prince unsupervised! What magic she could have used and at what cost to the prince!â By the gasps of those standing around the room the witchfinders words seemed to make them angry, seemed to make the king angry he loved Arthur in his own way so for the witchfinder to use Arthur to sentence you, god. You were surely going to die.
âNo.â Arthurâs words were quiet this was the first time he had said anything ây/n a witch? I mean come on weâd know! Sheâs lived in Camelot since she was five. And she wouldnât harm a fly!â Arthur called like it was laughable resting his hand on his hip like it was obvious but by the look in his eye the look of realisation but you couldnât find disgust you didnât have time to search for it.
But It made you turn your gaze to the floor Arthur knows. he knows. you have magic. Youâve healed him countless times. no stab wound, or arrow wound could be healed as quickly as his has or all the time heâs been injured in battle only moments before, before the searing pain has been replaced with a dull ache. Or the times as a child where any scrape or scuffed knee had been eased by a soft kiss over the wound. The look of betrayal passing over his face when you gained the courage to finally look at him made you shrink into yourself
âThatâs exactly what someone under her spell would say. I fear, uther that the prince is too close to her to see clearly.â The witchfinder spoke with a voice like acid and you couldnât stand making yourself small if he was going to do you for magic you would not be ashamed. You would not hide from his gaze.
Your chained hands pushed you from your slumped position on the ground your hair messily falling over your face you stood on shaky legs looking at the people in the throne room, all your friends watching you with pity filled faces you couldnât stand it.
It made you feel sick, especially the fearful teary eyed look from morgana like she was seeing her future you hated this.
Uthers response felt like it took years, ây/n l/n I sentence you to death.â The room fell eerily silent before a scream filled your head, it was Merlin you whirled around to spot him in the crowd tears in his eyes and anger flashing across his face you wouldnât be surprised if the next attempt on uthers life would be from Merlin.
âNo! Father you canât. What evidence do you have?!â Arthur pleaded with his father quietly by his throne anger glaring in arthurs eyes pointed not at you, it gave you hope that he didnât hate you enough to want you dead.
âMy word is final.â The king sneered and your hope filled heart broke. Swallowing hard your eyes searched for Merlin the fear in your eyes hit him hard as he watched
you be carted out of the court room your eyes locking with Merlinâs anger and tears filled his eyes before your eyes swept to Arthurâs & the sheen of betrayal sat heavy in his eyes and before you could stop yourself you called out for him one last time. As the guards dragged you to the doors.
âArthur!â
â.àłàż*:
The cells in camelots dungeons were always your most hated place to be from the horrid stench to the chill that cooled your bones to the straw that littered the floor In wet mangled clumps. To the extent it weakened your connection to your magic. Your magic was your strength the very essence of you to have it be weakened by the iron felt wrong.
The dungeons were perhaps the scariest place in Camelot there youâd sit, forced to rot as theyâre building a funeral pyre for you and your execution is due in a day.
But youâd been there for now two days, and Day by day you were becoming more and more sure that this was the one situation Merlin could not save you from.
by the betrayed look on Arthurâs face when you were lead through the large doors infront of the entire court for your sentencing and the cold look in uthers eyes you were a dead woman walking.
And maybe you deserved it by the look on Arthurâs face as the pieces fell into place and he realised all the times his wounds eased that were not with the help of adrenaline, but magic. it made you wonder did he believe you had enchanted him? Bewitched him to love you? It pained you greatly to even think that Arthur may be in his chambers rethinking every kiss youâve shared with one another. Would your love ever truly be enough for him to forgive you for magic? Of course he didnât like magic that was to be expected but he liked you. At least you thought he liked youâŠ
And He liked Merlin, heâd shown countless times indifference to magic, magic that had saved his life countless times, and still the look of betrayal in his eyes made you wonder Were all your secret picnics and stolen kisses in corridors just something to occupy him?
Were you nothing more than Arthurâs dirty little secret, a silly little romance that would have only ended in tragedy?
was it all for nothing?
Were you nothing to him?
No you were not nothing. You were everything you were his in private. the only place he didnât have to perform. He didnât have to agree with his fatherâs actions he could just be Arthur pendragon not the prince.
besides Itâs better to have loved Arthur and to die for it than to have never had him at all. You may never be his queen but you were for a fleeting moment, for a fleeting moment you were his and he was yours.
And now you would burn because you loved your family too much to watch them die, you half wondered as you sat in that cell if uther knew.
If he had known you and Arthur were courting in secret and if he called the witchfinder to get rid of more than one the little scandal waiting to happen and you wouldnât put it past uther to condemn you to death so long as Arthur is still under his control.
The longer you sat in your cell the more you stewed, a slue of emotions crashing over you, from sadness to anger, to acceptance.
You would accept the fate of burning for your loved ones but you would not accept the fate of losing Arthur. Not like this.
You would not be separated by death, if Arthur didnât want you after knowing the truth you would live with it, but you would not live with not knowing.
Your love for the boy had been too strong you were going to marry Arthur in the future, it wasnât to far away having a family with the prince, having a life.
That could have been your future. If you were not awaiting execution.
You sat there in drenching sadness that crashed like waves, what was worse was the sound of keyâs jiggling. Did you misjudge the days? Was this going to be the end? already?
âYou and me are going to have a little talk.â The witch finder sneered unlocking your cell and looking down at you with hatred still you didnât gaze in his eyes. You watched the floor with intensity as he hauled you off to a different cell leading you through the halls past the staircase you caught sight of a shaky morgana your eyes found hers and suddenly you felt a lot more scared than before.
In the cell there was a chair and a table and a small cart of various medical and surgical weapons âoh shitâ your mind screamed as the witch finder forced you to the chair âSo we can do this two ways. Itâs up to you confess why youâre in Camelot and who else has magic. and maybe Iâll let you live. Donât tell me and Iâll find out myself.â The cruelty in his tone made you rear back subconsciously eyes narrowing at the witchfinders gaze
âThenâ you sighed shakily looking at him through your lashes coldlyâyouâre going to have to find out yourself.â You summoned every inch of anger and willed it in your tone. Trying to be brave despite the frantic beats of your heart.
But It was hours spent in that damp Camelot cell hidden from the other prisoners clamped to a chair and the witch finder inches from your face and array of striking weapons on a small cart made your breathing hitch.
But youâve had worse, youâve had to fight wilderin in hengists kingdom for sport. Both yourself and Gwen had been kidnapped under the guise of being morgana and her physician and so yourself and Gwen were forced to masquerade as morgana and yourself and you were stuck in different cells both damp and smelling of blood and wet earth.
And then there was Lancelot who happened to be hengists champion, and a champion who only days later youâd be thrown into the pit with a wilderin with no weapons with a tied up Gwen and Lancelot. Both yourself and Lancelot had stayed behind to give Gwen time to escape and ultimately were the first to be thrown in the cage again you didnât mind as long as Gwen escaped youâd be fine.
But Truth be told the odds were very against you, but magic was always going to save you, but using it would doom you especially in front of everyone in hengists court. With the use of magic and a bloodied broken bone from the wilderins last meal made for a convenient way to murder the beast. Until another one came and Merlin and Arthur had saved you just in time From its hideous rat jaws the huge bleeding scar of its teeth in your arm made you detest the stench of blood and earth.
That was probably the worst experience of your life until now. And the scar from the wilderins teeth was still healing but the physical scars meant nothing the torture of being in a cell that smells the same as this dungeon was the worst that and the feeling of knowing your life is going to end were probably the most humbling experiences.
But, the only saving grace was that night in camp where Arthur had taken it upon himself to patch up your wilderin wound (poorly might you add as a physician it was odd to let the only man with very little experience patching someone up, patch you up.)
But you let him anyway and Arthurâs hands held your arm with feather light touches the needle threaded through your flesh with clumsy fingers the stiching off centre and rough around the edges but it was Arthurâs way of telling you he cared, the silk thread slid easily through your flesh but it pained you every stitch Arthur was no physician but he was trying.
âIâm glad youâre okay. And Gwen told me when they questioned you about any secrets of Camelot you never cracked.â
ânever Camelot is my home.â You smiled at the prince but your attempt at reassurance failed miserably and he ducked his head
âI wish you, cracked. Then they wouldnât have given you that.â Arthur pointed to the growing black eye rapidly swelling over your left eye a bruise you got for refusing to rat out any information on when guards were on duty, the way to the Camelot armory or anything you overheard as a physician from any loose lipped clients.
âI am not weak Arthur. I can deal with a black eye and brutish men. Iâve been sparring with you and the knights for yearsâ Your eyes pointed angrily at the boy crossing your arms over your chest despite the half finished stitching feeling the half sewn wound twist painful as you did so but you hid the pain to appear strong something youâve done since you were young
âI never said that! But you- you arenât weak. I canât stand seeing you in pain.â Arthurâs blue eyes bore into yours with such an intensity his eyes flashing from your lips to your eyes his hand cupping your jaw as he pressed his lips softly against yours shock prevented you from kissing back as the blonde went to pull away you chased his lips kissing him back with feverish passion.
âI love you Arthur.â You rested your head against his the exhaustion of the day catching up to you he didnât say it back but you didnât care he just had to know.
â.àłàż*:
The memory of Arthur made you feel loved it kept you strong, hit after hit, once against your ribs twice against your face, four times against your legs and once more against your face with enough force to split your lip licking the blood that dripped from your lip your bruised body heaved in pain and still you never cracked.
âCome on miss l/n, just tell me two little names and all this can stopâ
âYouâre deluded.â You sneered before spitting a wad of blood into the witchfinders face smiling gleefully when your blood tinged spit stained his face but the glee was short lived when the man had sent a quick hit to your chest stealing the air from your lungs.
Before he grabbed a tool with a screw and roughly pulled your thumb into it âyou will tell me miss y/n what your intentions are with the prince and with Camelot or I will force it out of you.â
The witchfinder shredded his coat as he leaned over you tightening the screw into your thumb the pressure of the screw against your finger had you squirming in your seat as he tightened the contraption more and more
âAll you need to do is confess your accomplices. And this will stop.â His voice echoed the room but the feeling of a sharp screw drilling into your finger tighter and tighter puncturing the nail and skin the pain otherworldly and unbearable you tried to hold your scream back but when the man still did not relent and instead tightened the thumb screw you let out your blood curdling scream.
âWHO! Are! Your! Accomplices!â His voice yelled now as he tightened more and more gut wrenching screams ripped from your throat you would let yourself scream, let yourself cry but you would not tell him a thing.
The crushing feeling of your thumb bones breaking made your heart beat incredibly fast your other ironed hand gripped the table with force your nails digging into the wood
He still tightened the screw and by the loud haunting screams that ripped from you and the smile on the witchfinders face he enjoyed your pain you couldnât help the salty tears and horrible screams the pain unbearable and overcoming your sense but still your mouth locked on any information like a vault.
âCome on!â His voice boomed as his hands squeezed your bicep his eyes crazed as he watched you
âFuck you!â You screamed eyes red with tears and fighting the approaching darkness in the corner of your vision
âAredian, sir. The king has called a meeting and requires your presence.â The servant at the cell door had spoken quietly to the witchfinder nervous in his presence
The witchfinder sighed straightening his posture rolled his eyes and moved close to your ear âno matter, miss l/n. The lady morgana, and Merlin will burn with you soonâ
Your heart dropped and you struggled against the restraints the excruciating pain from your finger and the rest of your beaten body the pain in your ribs alluded you to the potential broken bones it caused your panicked shouts to echoed through the dungeon and the witchfinders laugh filled the room
âNo! Aredian stop.â You cried to his retreating figure âIâll confess to the use of sorcery if. And only if, you spare Merlin and morgana.â Your eyes close in defeat
âGood choice, miss y/n. take her to her cell.â
â.àłàż*:
And there you were again cut off from anyone and anything unsure if Merlin would be able to prove you innocent, or if heâd burn with you, or if Arthur still even cared the woman he was courting was about to be executed and had just withstood torture. Hengist was bad but he never had broken your bones or tortured you only tried to feed you to wilderin.
The pain in your thumb had dulled but the bleeding hole had still gushed the measly bandage that consider of your dress did barely anything to stop the bleeding and the iron cells mixed with the torture made your magic virtually ineffective making you unable to fully heal your wounds only dulling the pain of your thumb.
your time was running out and you were truly alone in the cells your connection to Merlin via your druid telepathy was proving useless he wouldnât respond you couldnât warn him of the witch finder and by the shine of the moon in your cell you only had hours left.
There is already a funeral pyre with your name on it in the court yard. You couldnât help the tears that slipped down your cheeks you didnât want to die not like this and a prison break wasnât even on your mind theyâd just kill Merlin and gaius in your absence there was no way out. and the crushing guilt of something you cannot change began to pound against your skull. Were you born wrong?
Was it wrong to have this magic? This power that has saved those youâve loved for years why was it seen as inherently evil? Why were you seen as inherently evil? All you wanted was your friends to be safe.
And between the pain that debilitated you from the physical blows to the broken bones in your thumb and the emotional pain of Arthur most likely hating you made you want to just give up.
You pulled your knees to your chest as you cried the stupid scent of blood, earth, and straw polluted your nose. And you found yourself thinking about how lucky Gwen had been to have Lancelot visit her cell in hengists kingdom determined to break her and by extension yourself out.
You had Merlin in your court but you still wished you had someone to hold your hand through the vent even if it was the last thing youâd ever do you didnât want to die alone.
âY/nâ you heard whispered from the doors of your cell âArthur?â You called confusion lacing your voice as your red rimmed eyes met Arthurâs and you couldnât help but run to the cell door resting your head on the bars sobbing in relief at the sight of him the pain from your body put on the back burner for a moment.
âWhat happened?â Guilt filled Arthurâs heart at the sight of you, your eye healing from your previous beating and now the sight of your bloodied broken thumb and bruised body Arthur saw red.
He felt betrayed at the revelation of your magic of course but he understood why you had kept it a secret and if Arthur had been paying more attention he would have seen it plain as day when you were kids.
Your magic was obvious since childhood Arthur was too blind to see it.
âI knowâ was all he said eyes stoney and voice unwavering âI know you have magic the witch finder is right.â
Any hope that bubbles in your chest died with his words âArthur I- i can explainâ You tried shaking your head lacing your uninjured hand in his through the cell pleased when he didnât pull away
âShhh Merlin told me everything, everything youâve ever done to save me. Save everyone. I understand why you did what you did.â Arthur spoke lowly his eyes staring into yours trying to convey his apology
âMerlin has come up with a plan to save you, heâs doing it right now but I couldnât go another day without telling you Iâm sorry you had to keep this a secret. I canât stay for long but- but y/n I love you.â Arthur spoke with all the love he could muster placing a chaste kiss on your lips through the cell
âIâm sorry I didnât tell you before I was afraid of my father I am supposed to be king one day to marry someone of noble blood, but I donât want that. I want you.â Arthurâs voice is quiet as he confesses he wants to spend the rest of your lives together
âI want nothing more.â You felt like crying he still wanted you, magic and all.
âArthur, I was so scared.â You felt so exhausted from the torture to the ticking clock you couldnât help but cry
âShhâ Arthurâs fingers ghosted over the skin of your cheeks wiping your tears. âWe will prove your innocence, Iâll keep your secret. I promise you.â
Arthur placed a kiss on your lips once more pressing a necklace with his ring into your hand before promising Merlin has everything under control.
With your heart a bit lighter you finally sat down on the hard cell bed clutching Arthurâs ring in your hand you let sleep overtake your body trusting that Merlin will save you.
â.àłàż*:
When the bright light of the sun shines through your cell window today is the day you are supposed to die, and part of your questioned if you dreamt Arthurâs presence to save your sanity but by the slight pressure of his ring on a chain in your hand reassured your beating heart.
You were not dreaming, Arthur loves you and Merlin just spent last night trying to save you but thereâs still a ticking time bomb of the noon execution and by the switch shift of the guards it was almost 12
Time was ticking and still there was no sign of Merlin you felt sick like your heart was going to fall out of your stomach
You prayed to whatever god or deity was out there that you would not burn today but by the size of the growing crowd outside the cell window your prayers would go unanswered there was nothing you could do but just sit there in anxiety
The rattling of keys and heavy sound of chainmail made you accept the fact that Merlin would be too late to save you and Arthur would watch you burn
When the knight reached your cell his keys turned the lock and he walked towards you slowly your eyes met the floor the pain in your thumb still debilitating but you held Arthurâs ring in your hands tightly if you were to burn your burn knowing you were loved.
To your surprise when the knight takes you by the wrist silver key in hand as he unlocks your handcuffs
Confusion takes over your face as you watch the knight with intensity âwhat?â You canât help but ask rubbing your now freed wrist nervous when he takes your injured hand but this knight grips your hand with gentleness thatâs beyond you
âYouâre free to go missâ the knight smiles he looked to be a newer knight of Camelot one you didnât grow up with but he is kind
âThank youâ you nod to the knight as you stumble from your cell gauis is standing at the end of the hallway white as a ghost but pleased to see you freed from your cell
âY/n!â Gauis smiles opening his arms and you canât help but fall into them holding onto gauis tightly your sobs wet his shirt shoulder
âGauis how did you do it? How did you prove me to be innocent?â You cry your hands shaking and body weak from days spent eating little food and dealing with aredians torture.
âIt was all Merlin and Arthur.â The old man smiles his arms supporting you as you walk up the stairs from the dungeons to your chambers
âTell me everything.âyou smile at the old man walking side by side down the corridor gauisâs laugh fills the empty hallway
âNot here, letâs get your wounds treated.â His eyes glance at the bruises littering your body, and the bloodied thumb
â.àłàż*:
You had never been so happy to see your chambers in your life, the comforting smell of herbs and bread the familiar scent of old books and the sound of your boots against the stone floor sounded like music to your ears
Thereâs no scent of wet earth, or blood aside from the metallic smell emanating from your finger you could almost forget the pain of the cells now that youâre back.
But thereâs still very obviously signs of damage done by the witch finders raid broken pots, damaged shelves potions and poisons leaving residue on the floor
But still it is your home. gauis filled a pitcher of water and fills a cup for you and once the water passes your lips you come to realise just how parched you were gulping down glass after glass
gauis busied himself with fixing his work station pulling ointment after ointment and an array of bandages from his kit.
âSit pleaseâ gauis pointed to the table and you sat yourself on the wooden bench gauis had begun to take your makeshift bandage from your wound the gaping hole in your thumb and the blood that spurted from your wound made gauisâs breathing hitch
As he gentle distributed ointment over the wound to fight off growing infections and bandaging up the wound with a fresh bandage Merlin would work on reconstructing your thumb when he gets back
Gauis had felt over your ribs and when he had found another break Merlin would be healing that too for now gauis would sit beside you on the dining room table fresh food would be laid out gauis knew what it was like in the Camelot dungeons and the lack of food
So he didnât comment on how much you ate when approaching footsteps made your heart beat faster and your eyes flicker to gauis his hand rested on top of yours to reassure you, gauis and Merlin would always reassure you you were safe here you werenât trapped in the cells of your own home.
When Merlinâs figure found himself in the doorway you could see the relief on his face that you were okay aside from the bruises and bandaged thumb you were alive.
âOh y/nâ Merlinâs soft voice cried and before you knew it you were pushing up off of the table and running into Merlinâs arms
âHi Merlinâ you held him tightly you owed Merlin your life and so being in his hold meant being safe, he would never hurt you.
âGod Iâm so glad youâre backâ his hold tightened and he could feel your magic strong and your connection to eachother he wasnât cut off from you anymore
âIâm so sorry it took me so long.â Merlinâs guilt ate him alive as he pulled away the black eye and split lip made him see red if he didnât already kill aredian by accident he would have and he would have made him go through what you did.
Merlinâs eyes flashed yellow and the unbearable ache in your thumb and pulsing pain all over ebbed into nothingness.
You could feel your bones reassembling in your thumb and your broken rib fuse back together the pain and bruises once a bright purple colour would dissipate into a light blue and then would turn into the colour of your skin again.
âThank you, Merlin.â You squeezed his hand tightly he nodded his head and held you tightly in his arms
Before a smile broke out on his face âdo you want to hear how I proved aredian to be a fraud?â Merlin helped you sit beside him and poured another glass of water for you
âOf course!â
â.àłàż*:
After Merlin had recounted the entire night from convincing Arthur of everything, that despite your magic you loved him with no enchantment and even if you had enchanted him Merlin asked Arthur point blank if what he told him that day you were cuddled in Arthurâs arms if it was still true, if he still loved you.
Arthur told Merlin he would always love you but he couldnât trust you now with magic Merlin felt like slapping the prince.
How could you trust Arthur? Heâs the prince of Camelot. A kingdom that tried to burn a woman at the stake the first day he arrived and you had grown up here watching that and still you treated its citizens and royalty with no malice?
Merlin understood why you couldnât trust Arthur he canât. Not because Arthur was a bad friend but heâs the prince.
No one can help how they are born, but you can put yourself in their shoes and Merlin spent hours convincing Arthur and then more hours enchanting aredian.
From the tincture of belladonna, to the bracelet, to even the frog from aredians throat! Merlin would not fail.
You loved Merlin a lot no one would go as far as he did to save you and you only knew him for a year and a half.
When three knocks sounded on the door Merlin had tried to hide his smile as gauis opened the door to Arthur, in a white shirt freshly showered hair and a Bouquet of wildflowers you felt your heart melt at his kindness
His blue eyes were filled with worry and fear his gaze flicking to gauis and Merlin before he lowered his voice âhow are you?â
âMuch better now Iâm out of that god forsaken cell.â You felt your throat close up at the mention of the cell you spent so long in
Arthur felt guilty about his actions about not saving you or stopping his father. He tried but he could have tried harder
You could see Arthur was drowning in his guilt placing your hand on his shoulder you lead him past gauis and Merlin to your room and sat on your small bed
âYou tried your hardest Arthur, itâs not your fault I was thrown in the dungeons.â
âI should have stopped them y/n. I should have broken you out I should have done anything!â Arthur blinked through tears
His hand holding yours in your lap, âArthur I love you with my whole heart I do not blame you, so please do not blame yourself.â
âI love you and I promise I will spend the rest of my life proving to you how much I love you.â Arthur confessed his eyes full of sincere love
You couldnât help yourself but to kiss him your lips meshing against one anotherâs felt like home, it felt like love and warmth and like an apology all in one.
It wasnât until your lungs burnt for air did you pull back. âI should go I donât want anyone to become suspicious, Iâll see you tomorrow?â Arthur asked tentatively a part of him afraid of rejection.
âOf courseâ you placed another kiss on his lip before pulling open your chamber door to reveal Merlin and gauis on the other side ears pressed against the wood looking guilty.
âMerlinâŠgauis what do you think youâre doing?â You chastise at the pair you expected this of Merlin but of gauis? That was surprising
âGauis i expected better of youâ Arthur laughed from where he stood wrapping an arm around your shoulder

The albatross
Summary: when Wednesday pulls you from your slumber to investigate the gates mansion feelings emerge and injuries happen
A/n: Iâve spent so long finishing this fic i think Iâm relatively happy with it! Enjoy.
Warnings: Tyler, jealousy, choking, stabbing wounds, hospitals, required unrequited love, dubious ending you decide if we live or die (probably more Iâve forgot)
àŒșđ©âŠđȘàŒ»
A violent shaking is what breaks you from your sleep, youâre currently swallowed by three separate blankets with various patterns that keep you tucked nicely into your twin sized mattress on your side of the dorm.
Wednesdays pale face looks down at you, a dead pan expression on her face. And thing sits on your pillow by your face whilst Enid is crouched on your other side watching eagerly, the blonde is the one violently shaking you.
âY/n, get up itâs girls night!â Itâs obvious now that Enid is excited shaking you over the fact that Wednesday pealed not only yourself. but Enid as well for a âgirls nightâ
âEnid stop shaking me!â you bellow, Your body aches in protest against waking up even if it is to hangout with your favourite girls, between school, falling in love with Wednesday and monster hunting, youâve been more tired than usual.
âSorryâ Enid rubs the back of her neck bashfully and itâs only then do you realise that both Wednesday and Enid are wearing their matching snoods and you close your eyes again fully prepared for the werewolf girl to throw your matching snood over your head and pull you along and out of the spiderweb window to the balcony. It was definitely past curfew.
And it doesnât come as a surprise when Enid does pull out your bright purple snood and pulls it over your head âcome on y/n!â Enid squeals her feet tapping against the wood flooring excited to celebrate Wednesdays birthday,
And the aforementioned girl Who has been quietly watching the scene by your bedside the gloomy girl with an out of place hand knitted snood and an hilarious grumpy look on her face but her brown eyes sworm with schemes and youâre fully aware this will not be a normal âgirls night.â When was anything normal with Wednesday.
-
Youâre proven right when youâre forced out your room in the dead of night to âtake Enid to the lupin cagesâ so the adults think but really Wednesdays leading you out the nevermore gates to a beat up car that you unfortunately know to be Tylerâs.
He seems alright for a normie but the jealousy that stabs your heart whenever you see him and Wednesday together only serves to be a painful reminder that no matter if the boy gives you a free coffees you still canât bare to be in his presence.
Whatâs worse? Is you can tell the boys got a raging crush on Wednesday.
But Youâd follow Wednesday to the ends of the earth even if that meant coming face to face with the monster that just so happens to be terrorising Jericho.
Opening the door and sitting in the back seat Wednesday having long been sat in the passenger seat Enid takes her place by your side In your matching snoods. The excited look dusting her face drops at the inclusion of Tyler.
âHeâs our Uber driver?â Enid sighs her eyes flickering to Wednesday
âUber driver? I thought we were going on a dateâTyler says pointedly looking between the two of you in the back to Wednesday sitting nonchalant in the passenger seat
You feel a stab of hurt pass through you the girl was supposed to go on a date with him? but you remind yourself she blew him off for you and Enid.
Itâs silly, you donât have some claim over Wednesday sheâs a free woman, and besides sheâd definitely never allow anyone to have any claim over her in the first place.
And by the way she behaves with her parents she doesnât seem to be all that into romance, unlike you and Enid who spend every Tuesday binging new romance movies.
In your thoughts you barely notice Enid frown beside you âI thought this was girls night outâ the girl sulks looking at you for backup and you canât stop the yawn that forces itself from your throat but you place your hand on Enidâs hand to reassure the girl, before you turn your attention to Wednesday for some answers, Enid and Tyler follow suit.
Wednesday gives you nothing more than âthereâs been a change of plansâ not even sparing a glance at you all, sighing you rest your back against the seat as Tyler asks the girl in the dim yellow light of the car
âWhatâs up with the matching hoodie scarf thing?âand before you can answer the boy Wednesday in the front seat murmurs
âDonât ask just driveâ
And just like that you, Enid, and Tyler have been yet again roped into Wednesdays plans but part of you doesnât mind it. it means youâre close enough with the girl for her to want your company.
But Between the stuffy snood, and your romantic competition. Itâs very difficult to be stuck in the same car as the guy who Wednesday kind of likes tolerates.
You clip your seatbelt in and sulk beside Enid in the back seat
So you watch as Enid sighs and clips in her seatbelt and Tyler rolls his eyes in the drivers seat a hint of annoyance but mostly fondness clouds his vision as he starts the car
âSo where too?â
And with that Tyler takes the three of you to an abandoned house in the woods with a creepy gate and you canât stop the thought that passes your mind that this is so Wednesday.
You may have been upset at the disturbance to your sleep schedule but you were doing it for Wednesday so it was less bad as long as her dark eyes watched you, you couldnât care less about sleep, or trespassing.
The only thing important to you was making sure Wednesday didnât get herself killed. (although sheâd probably like that) you couldnât stand to see her die.
âOkay this isnât what I signed up for.â Tylerâs hands shake beside Enid and the smaller girl looks terrified by his side as she exclaims a tentative âdittoâ
a thought passes over you Tyler would be a nice friend to have if he wasnât in love with Wednesday. Even if heâs chickening out on exploring a house.
âI didnât want to celebrate my birthday by a surprise party or dinner, I want to do this.â Wednesday explains like itâs obvious as her fingers make fast work at picking the locked gate.
âYou shouldâve just said so, you didnât have to trick usâ Tylerâs voice of softer now, kinder. and you know heâs like you. Bewitched by the girl and your hands twitch by your side screaming at him to just leave you alone with Wednesday. Just go! Your shadows reach out closer to Tyler in anger before blending back into the ground.
pushing against the metal gate of the gates mansion, your boots crunch against the ground and youâd shine your flashlight Wednesday brought for you and youâd walk shakily forward. Shadows curling around your feet for comfort
The darkness and abandoned house unnerving you, it was ironic to be able to control shadows and the dark still scared you. but you took a deep breath & sucked it up anyway you vaguely heard Tyler behind you ask Enid
âDoes she do that often? You know⊠the shadow thing?â Tyler asked his voice lowering you could practically feel him point at you from behind and despite Enidâs growing fear the girl laughed
âYes.â
àŒșđ©âŠđȘàŒ»
Minutes passed and now the four of you had gotten closer to the house with Enid and Tyler behind yourself and Wednesday âseriously you want to go in there?â Enid looks frantically between the three of you and you shrug your shoulders, Wednesdays made you do worse before.
But you sigh outwardly âif you still want to leave you can.â Your eyes look pointedly at Enid you know sheâs softer than you, not that itâs a bad thing but she doesnât usually like to explore abandoned houses.
âIâm gonna go check out the garageâ Wednesday looks thourouhly pleased with herself as she hurryâs down the path quicker
You shake your flashlight and follow beside the girl the chilly night air slaps you in the face as you walk and youâre oddly thankful for your matching snood.
Your heart constricts as you walk past the entrance but you shake the nerves off when Wednesday comes to a boarded up door she canât pull open, and you slide by the girl âlet me tryâ
You say softly moving her cold fingers from the handle and her fingers twitch to your touch you breath a little shakier at the thought of holding her hand, Wednesday doesnât look absolutely disgusted by the touch before she realises sheâs still holding your hand and she tugs her hand away violently like you burned her.
coughing to cover your embarrassment your hands wrap around the handle and you pull with all your might. it doesnât budge. Tyler comes up behind you a bashful expression on his face as he passes you his hands replace yours as his fingers wrap around the door and pull and you know itâs useless by the way he sulks away
Enid rolls her eyes before she tries the door and Lo and behold it opens with ease âwarewolf strengthâ she smiles shrugging her shoulders
Tyler shares a look with Wednesday but the girl strides forward shining her torch into the abandoned garage Wednesday flicks the light switch and an old orange light flickers to life
âThis is the car that hit the mayorâ Wednesday mutters in the corner of your eye you see Enidâs face screw up into one of fear Tyler looks as nervous as you feel
âWell thatâs grimâ you observe the car through its windows thereâs nothing incriminating in it, but regardless you control your shadows to slip inside the car, but still they come up with nothing.
âWe need to call Tylerâs dad right now!â Enid cries her eyes welling with tears her pink snood around her head makes her look a bit silly and you fight the urge to pull her into a hug and tell her to go back to the car
âWhy so he can take me back to nevermore and get me expelled? Itâs not gonna happen.â Wednesday is firm with her words and despite the fearful looks on Tyler and Enidâs faces you canât bring yourself to back out so you grip your torch tighter and stride forward.
The old house is devoid of any love the surfaces covered in a large layer of dust, the air feels stagnant, and the floor boards creak with every step you take. You find yourself following Wednesday closely behind.
Wednesday shines her torch down every hallway and when finally we get to a large set of stairs Wednesday is dead serious when she says âI think we should split upâ
Fear glistens over Enidâs face and Tyler watches the room nervously as you swallow hard splitting up in never a good idea âhow about we have another person with us so we arenât all alone?â You attempt a reassuring smile at Enid before watching Wednesday roll her eyes
âIf we mustâ impatience snapped from the girls tone and just as you cleared two stairs to partner with the girl, a smile growing on your face at the idea of being alone with Wednesday.
âIâll go with Wednesday!â Enid exclaimed rocking back and forth on her feet and youâd swore youâd kill the girl sending her a sharp glare over your shoulder that said really, Enid? Way to read the room.
Before scoffing rolling your eyes and gripping your flashlight tightly you walked back down the steps in anger
âWe should Meet back here if we find anythingâWednesday nodded turning to disappear out of your sight
Anger rolled off your body in waves your shadows darkening the room momentarily as you commanded Tyler to follow the warm glow of your flash light, as it illuminates the various empty rooms, first you were upset at the fact you werenât with Wednesday and you were even more furious when you were left with Tyler.
In your anger you walked the halls stuck in your head not paying attention to your surroundings until a menacing growl sounded from behind you, you felt the hair on the back of your neck stand up and the air felt like static around you.
Pointing your flashlight in the direction of the growl slowly your faced with a hedious monster its eyes big and bug like bulging from its head, and itâs massive body stalking towards you. It made the first strike of fear ripple through you, had you been so upset with being stuck with Tyler you didnt hear him get attacked?
âTyler!â You cried eyes still locked onto the monster when you heard no response your cold hands wrapped tightly around your flashlight and you took off running in the opposite direction.
The sound of growls and thundering footsteps only meters from you made your heart constrict and your lungs burn with effort ducking your head to dodge claws you sped through room after room corner after corner your legs burning from effort that would still not be enough
âWednesday!â You shouted as loud as you could hoping that your voice terror filled and trembling would reach your friends upstairs and motivate them to save themselves.
Your feet still slammed against the floor of the house as you ran the sound of breaking glass and falling bookshelves sounded behind you from the Hyde.
Your shadows gripping the Hydeâs legs and holding its legs down to prevent it from catching up but they did nothing more than momentarily annoy it. The Hydeâs growl of anger echoes the house
I will not die today.
You repeat like a mantra over and over turning sharply into a bedroom, the room you had just stumbled into had no exits aside from the door you just came through that happened to be blocked by the Hydeâs body
Shit shit SHIT!
Backing up as far as possible to the back of the room there was so escaping this, this would be where you die.
Tears began to burn your waterline sliding down your cheeks you had no idea why the Hyde was watching you like you were foreign or why it was taking so long to just kill you when your legs hit a desk and your hands slipped to the top of it scrambling to find something to arm yourself with, whilst still keeping your eye on the Hyde. you found a small, sharp. letter opener. slipping it up your sleeve a new found determination filled you.
âCome and get me.â You sneered your eyes narrowing and shadows darkening the room menacingly. You were no longer stuck in the room with the Hyde. It was stuck in a room with you.
And as if on que the beast stormed forward its huge clawed hand had gripped your body in a tight hold and squeezed like you were nothing.
Screams of pain filled the room the Hydeâs grip was enough to put painful pressure on your bones enough to stifle your breathing gritting your teeth you willed the letter opener to fall from your sleeve your shadows trailing up the Hydeâs legs pulling its huge body downward again before more shadows climbed its body wrapped around its neck and squeezing like the Hyde was doing to you.
Your shadows embedded themselves like sharp claws wherever possible, before stretching to blind the hide and
When its grip slightly faulted you stabbed its clawed hand satisfied by the blood that dripped from its hand as it dropped you rearing back to scream in your face before its razor sharp claws cut through the flesh of your arm and chest.
Slumping to the floor your shadow dissipated as quickly as they came and a mixture of exhaustion from using your power and pain was all that filled your world and before everything went back you could only mutter one word.
âWednesday.â
àŒșđ©âŠđȘàŒ»
There was no telling how long youâd been out for but by the amount blood sticking to your skin it must have been awhile. the overwhelming searing pain of the Hydeâs claws that left these deep jagged lines made you feel sick to your stomach.
The marks ranged from your chest to your shoulder and bicep deep enough to hurt and the leave you covered in metallic blood. But youâd live.
Shuddering your hands gripped the wall to haul yourself up your shoulder screaming in protest holding pressure to your wounds your breaths shaky as you walked through the empty house trying to mask yourself in your shadows but your control left much to be desired especially by the way your body left a trail of blood after you, you were more than happy to reach the garage door.
Shallow breaths filled the air as you walked into the comforting darkness of night god you were happy to be out of that house. Resting your head against a stone pillar out the front you looked at your wound in the silver moon light.
And you felt sick your skin sticky and covered in drying blood it might have been about ten minutes later of you just sitting in pain staring up at the moonlight that Tyler piled out of the garage door and wound on his chest less substantial than yours, but still painful.
You couldnât help the pathetic sob that left you at the sight of seeing Tyler alive, the guilt of not noticing when he went missing made you feel incredibly bad but you felt so much better seeing the normie alive.
âOh Tyler!â You cried limping forward to pull the boy into a half hug avoiding your wounds and his wound.
âHeyâ the boy greeted shakily holding you tightly you may not have liked him but you were glad he was alive.
âWhereâs Wednesday?â You asked as you pulled back looking for any reassurance from the boy
âI donât know I let them know the monster was in the house but then it got me before I could run after themâ the boy fidgeted with his fingers in his lap
âThatâs okay Iâm sure theyâre fine, Wednesdays capable.â You nodded before sinking back down to your pillar you watched the sky the burning in your arm at any movement made you wince, atleast youâre stupid snood survived.
âHere let meâ Tyler smiled shedding his shirt to use as a way to stop the bleeding his tan shirt pressed against your wound with a hiss the blood staining the colour darker you felt lightheaded like any moment youâd pass out
âHey hey hey stay awakeâ Tyler clicked his fingers in your face putting more pressure on your wound
âWhatâs going on?â Wednesdays monotone voice said her posture perfectly straight as she watched Tyler get too close for comfort to you
âY/n!â She sounded concerned by the way she watched your face
âIâm fine, nes just a scratchâ you rasped attempting to send a reassuring smile to the girl but before you could suddenly Wednesday was taking you in her arms and commanding Tyler and Enid to hurry up
âWe can- we can go to my house patch her upâ Tyler said his car keys in his hands and very quickly or what you assumed was very quickly you were back at the car watching the moon from the window your head resting on Wednesdays lap in the back seat
âIf you die, Iâll kill you.â Wednesdays voice shook as she held Tylerâs shirt to your wound tears in her eyes and half dazed your blood stained hands ghosted over Wednesdays face wiping a tear away
âI love youâ your voice shook and your head swam Delirious from the aching pain of your wound that would surely scar your body. And before you could fight it yours eyes flickered shut your eyes staring into Wednesdays brown eyes with so much love, and so much sorrow she may struggle to feel feelings but by the panic in her eyes there was something deeper than just friendship.
âNo no no keep your eyes openâ Wednesday panicked barely contained fear dripped from her voice
âTyler drive faster! Take us to the hospital!â To hell with the potential expulsion Wednesday would face she couldnât care less. All she wanted to do was save you.

But itâs better if you do
Summary: Being Jennifer checks human girl friend and being best friends with needy, instead of Jennifer finding needy when she freshly turns she finds you. You struggle to find the right time to confess your love for the demon girl, when People of devils kettle go missing you canât bring yourself to care when the succubusâs lips are on yours.
Warnings: reader doesnât really care about anyone but Jennifer, homoerotic gay friendships are my fav, Jennifer killing and eating boys normal succubus things, arson, a complicated relationship with Jennifer where she kisses reader w/o consent, stalking, breaking and entering, probably more but Iâm not sure!
A/n: I love Jennifer check so much Iâm only like 80% proud of this fic but man Jennifer is so hot & what else could I do aside from using a patd song!
â§àŒșàŒ»â
Melody lane, a shitty little jukebox club in the middle of devils kettle usually filled with drunk old men, crusty teenagers, and Jenniferâs flings.
But occasionally they had a half decent band playing. And okay alcohol when Jennifer actually managed to convince the bartender. the only way youâd ever hear any of them was when Jennifer managed to drag yourself and needy along with her to the club to watch as she seduced either a new fling, or an old one.
You never minded Jennifer dragging you to places, you liked the company, I fact youd jump when the girl invited you to one of hers and needys sleepovers, it was usually filled with sinful thoughts, movies youâd rented, and shroud gossip about your drab peers. To you Jennifer and needys were the most interesting people in devils kettle.
But there was something especially, special about Jennifer. from her sensual smile, to the way sheâd bite her lip when you were near, the the taste of her lip gloss, and the nights her lips were on yours. Youâd deal with the disappointment of going back to friends the next morning as long as you got to feel the girls cold hands on your body.
she was addictive. so addictive, youâd stay in a constant loop of the girls lips on yours as you shared a bed with each other, her touch delicate and light over the skin of your chest. It was the only time her words were ever gentle and not piercing alone with you was the only time sheâd let her guard down.
But you loved her in public too, when she was mean and cold. you didnât mind when she was mean to you, infact you liked her meanness, her spirit, her beauty, her love for fun, her piping hot gossip. You liked Jennifer not just for her banging body but for her soul.
The way her hands would rest on top of yours underneath the table in geography, the way her perfect nails would scratch against your back on your sleepovers.
You loved Jennifer, like you loved breathing.
the night melody lane burned down and the freaks from that band wanted a virgin and some how hypnotised Jennifer to join them in their creepy van needy had to hold you back from chasing after the girl, but from the sound of peopleâs bones breaking and the smell of their skin burning off when you three were briefly trapped in the club it left you in the wrong headspace. It left you unable to think straight.
the only thing repeating in your head over and over, âwhereâs jen? Why did I let her go with them? I should have done more.â Over and over again
But from the burning bodies, needys quiet sobs, and watching as your best friend get in a van with freaks all you wanted to do was go home, sit on your bed, and cry. Your ride home in Jenniferâs sea-bring left you itchy and uncomfortable. it felt wrong to sit in Jenniferâs car without her. But still you sat there with the aircon blasting because you couldnât handle the heat You still felt the residual burn from the fire.
It felt wrong to be safe in a car with needy When Jennifer was probably suffering in the hands of emo guys from a shitty band out of state that decided to lay their seedy sights on devils kettle and take your best friend from you. It felt like one big cruel joke.
âAre you gonna be okay without me?â Needy asked resting her hands on the steering wheel pushing her glasses up against her face. Snapping you out of your thoughts
âYeah yeah⊠Iâll be okay will you?â You asked your arms tightly wrapped around yourself the chill of the night air against your uncovered arms was welcomed.
The nerdy girl observed your face, not quite believing youâd be okay by the far off look in your eyes she wasnât even sure she knew where you were. She was wrong. you knew exactly where you were but your head was out of it. Part of you still left with Jennifer in the van Still fighting needys grip still being held back in needys hold as you watched the girl you love be carted away with strange men.
âYeah Iâve got chip.â Needy smiled awkwardly your voices quiet in the silence the small car light basking you two in warm orange. Watching eachother in awkward in silence, you were just grateful for your lives. And youâd talk about the effects of this eventually, but not tonight.
âDrive safe needy.â You smiled hand squeezing her shoulder tightly before unbuckling and getting out of the car. The walk to your door had been quick the buzzing silence and the illumination from the street lights left an eerie feeling to chill your bones. Or maybe it was the chill of the night air cooling your burning skin.
slotting your key into the hole and sliding the door open youâre met with your home drenched in darkness. The usual warmth and safety of your house felt unnerving.
The warm yellow lights from your ceiling and the sounds of the tv that sounded like childhood was gone only filled with aching silence. It was like even your home reflected your mood.
The only light was what came from your porch and needys headlights as she left down your street.
you wandered to the kitchen in the dead of night, the familiar creak of the floorboards and the buzz of your fridge calmed your racing thoughts, the only light source from the beeping green timer on the oven that stayed on no matter what you did. This was good.
This meant you were safe. You were home.
As you Pulled out a glass cup and filling it up with sink water, resting against the counter you downed your glass quickly the smooth liquid cooled the dryness in the back of your throat, the smoke from the fire coated your throat and making swallowing difficult.
You felt so sick, climbing the stairs to your bedroom and collapsing on your bed you flick your dated lamp on the warm light illuminating your room you finally let the tension from your body the sound of a creak made you crack your eyes open straining your ears to hear anything else after a few minutes of silence
it was probably nothing climbing under the plush comfy blankets of your bed you felt like a little kid again. safe under the blankets tucked in where nothing could touch you.
Despite your blanket force field you didnât dare turn off the lights. You keep them on and let them light the room.
You were always terrified of the dark. The only darkness you liked was the back of your eyelids
So you shut your eyes tightly and tried to ignore the horrible stench of smoke littering your clothes and staining your sheets. It would be your motherâs problem in the morning.
â§àŒșàŒ»â
When you cracked your eyes open again you were met with the sight of your light turned off and your room shrouded in darkness, Odd.
The world outside your window was also silent no crickets, no cars, just nothing.
Sitting up on your bed your blanket clutched to your chest you strained your eyes to look through the darkness, to adjust to the dimly lit room as you blindly reached your hand for the lamp switch turning it on despite the click youâre only met with darkness.
So you tried again,
Click
Still darkness?
âFuck sakeâ you muttered the age of the lamp clearly took its toll and of course it chose today of all days to die.
Pulling the cord to you youâre met with a jagged edge, not the plug pulled out from the Power Point under your bed. But a cord thatâs been cut the edges fraying dangerously.
Panic swirls in your chest any semblance of tiredness in you disipates as you observe your room, straining your eyes demanding them to focus. Your heart racing you canât help but imagine a horrid monster under your bed thatâs going to grab your ankle the moment you hop down.
Letting out a quiet whimper at the thought you push yourself against the headboard youâre met with two options: brave getting off the bed, and making a run for the light switch OrâŠJumping out the window from the second floor, and splat on the veranda. no.
Youâve got one option,
Youâd have to brave the darkness.
Taking a shaky breath you push yourself from the safety of your bed you become alarmingly aware of every step, every sound, every creak. You can hear your breaths in the silent room but something in the back of your mind swears you heard the breathing of something that wasnât you.
you wonder if youâre being pranked, âok needy, chip. Not funny!â You call shakily into the darkness.
but when a hand grips your foot and tugs you hard to the floor, you slam painfully against the wood Groaning at the impact it only takes you a minute before your mind is clear again.
And you realise thereâs some monster under the bed that tugged you to the floor. And their hands still holding your foot. you scream and tug your leg from their hold with force but still your eyes donât adjust to the darkness and your scrambling to get back up but the monster doesnât let you tugging you again to the floor. their hand grips your upper calf leaving a wet, sticky hand print.
What the fuck.
You feel their body crawl over you their cold hand trails your body with force but
Before you can scream again hand is covering your mouth tears well in your eyes at the feeling all the worst scenarios come to mind as you lay there frozen in fear, tears well in your eyes spilling down your cheeks.
âP-pleaseâ you whimper in its hold and the monster laughs. It laughs. Or what you think is a laugh it sounds like a horrible gurgle but it must be amused by the way the pressure holding you down lets up only slightly.
Just as quick as the laugh came itâs gone replaced with silence and a monster straddling your hips it feels human.
And in away that makes it worse. When the monsters hands trail your body from your hips to your chest where they settle over the little silver bff locket Jennifer gave you, it brings its wet slimy lips to your cheeks and its tongue slips from its mouth and you come to realise itâs licking your tears from your cheeks. Itâs hold lightens immensely as it places a light kiss over your lips and you cry harder unable to see what this thing is, before its pulling back and itâs stopped straddling your waist instead it sits with its hands on the floor and its knees to itâs shoulders.
In the dim moonlight you catch a glimpse of black hair, and a sickly smile
âAre you afraid of me?â It asks with a voice like Jenniferâs and you swallow the bile in your throat
âYes.â You hoarsely whimper, youâre left with a horrible realisation the lips that just kissed you feel the same as when Jennifer does. Before you can confront this thing masquerading as Jennifer it replies.
âgoodâ just when you think youâre safe the creature skitters back to toward you, you finally see what this creature is, the light a passing car that shines into your window gives you enough time to see the creature and youâre right.
itâs Jennifer, just Jennifer she doesnât look like some permanently deformed monster she still looks beautiful despite Her face covered in mascara streaks and an inky black substance that littered her pale skin and what looks to be blood on her shirt jennifer smiles and she crawls towards you her hands trailing your chest to her necklace. And she leans near you her lips hovering over the shell of your ear and she places a kiss And it doesnât feel like it did when you and Jennifer sleepover, or the way she leans towards you to whisper something in your ear at school this is intimate.
But this leaves you questioning If she was Jen why did she go so far to tug you to the floor? Why Did she hold you down? Why did cut your lamp? You had so many questions and by the way the girl observed you it unnerved you, it made it abundantly clear you werenât getting any answers tonight but still you couldnât help yourself.
âJennifer?âyou say through tears finally sitting up âJenâŠwhat happened?â You ask tearfully sheâs crouching on the balls of her feet her her arms holding her ankles and itâs impulsive but you canât stop yourself you reach out to touch her cold cheek with a shaky hand.
âWhy were you under my bed? What are you covered in?âYour hands still hold the girls face before venturing to her shoulders and you pull her to stand up with you and to your surprise she does it. she watches you with a familiar glint in her eyes and you can see she wasnât some bogey man. Just Jennifer. covered in what you assume is blood, and an odd black substance, but she was still Jennifer.
âWhat did they do to you?â You whisper before you can stop yourself, tell yourself that is was just shock. Like shock did this kind of thing to people. You couldnât trick yourself with lies something happened.
It would do no good to question the girl about it just yet, so you Lead her to your kitchen you filled up a glass of water for the girl and watched as she downed the entire thing before going through your fridge, tugging through all of your food, finding nothing of value.
She turned back to you and she watched you hungrily like she wanted to consume your soul like you were prey and she was predator, like a lion and an antelope on a nature documentary. It made your skin prickle.
âJennifer? Whatâs going on?â You pleaded your eyes watching her every move, Jennifer stalks up to you with speed that makes you back track into the counter, and her body entraps you against the counter and her lips ghost yours before she pulls away and you fight the urge to chase her lips you watch as she dashes out the back door, the slam of a screen is the only thing that even told you you were not crazy That and the black goop drying to your body.
â§àŒșàŒ»â
The next morning you arrive late to school having missed first period, staying awake into the long hours of the morning too afraid to sleep. from the fire, to your odd encounter with Jennifer it left you shaking, sitting for hours in an extra hot shower trying to pull yourself together although the heat seemed to make your skin prickle and the fire in melody lane burn brighter in your mind. You needing to feel clean, you needed to shower off the grime, and the incident with Jennifer.
Maybe it was The mild case of smoke inhalation in your lungs that made you hallucinate last night but the black goo on your body made you question that theory.
when you finally arrived to your first class of the day you sat beside needy and the girl looked as traumatised as you felt and you donât have to ask to know sheâs had a night similar to yours.
âHeyâ you greet and the girl greets a quiet âhi y/nâ back but you donât pay much mind not when youâre teacher begins to talk about the fire and the people who died who went to school with you.
At the mere mention of melody lane needy and yourself share a look with eachother a sense of guilt and dread that you three survived. It wasnât dread over the fact you survived, you all were happy to be alive but you felt somewhat responsible for the fire despite not even setting it.
Why did three girls who are the most unlikely group of friends survive? Why not everyone else? Were they not equally important? What if one of them were going to cure cancer. Why did you live you werenât going to cure cancer.
When the door to the classroom swing open and Jennifer walks in looking as perfect as ever, you canât help but think the girl looks absolutely stunning (like always) your cheeks prickling with the feeling of her hand caressing them last night and you fight the urge to chase the imaginary feeling. Making sure you donât raise your hand to your cheek over the feeling.
Instead you shake your shoulders like itâll put your back in the present. It works. But you canât shake the feeling of your hairs that stand up on the back of your neck as Jen pulls up a seat beside you and her warmth heats your side and her addictive perfume wafts around you, and you can tell sheâs watching you with the same look as she always does. A sensual look thats different than the looks she gives her flings, itâs a look that makes you feel like you canât breathe.
She slathers lip gloss over her plush pink lips as needy attempts to talk sense into Jennifer, you didnât even realise she was talking. Only catching the final bit of her conversation
âAnyone we know?â You hear Jennifer ask like she doesnât really care, but thereâs a twinge of annoyance in her voice.
âWe know everyoneâŠâ needy says her eyes watching Jennifer like sheâs foreign. And you watch the desk like itâs the most interesting thing in the world.
You donât pay much attention when Jennifer talks about how amazing she feels and how she doesnât care about the fire. It shocks you truthfully because told but you donât have the energy to pay attention to anything but the guilt when Craigâs friend, Jonas, starts crying in the middle of class.
You look down at your lap playing with your fingers as Jennifer talks to both yourself and needy you catch sight of needys hands. her nail beds caked with the same inky black substance that assaulted your body and for the first time since Jennifer walked in you look her in her eyes with a sort of horrified intrigue, it wasnt a dream that you conjured up in your fucked up mind. when your eyes flicker to needy something passes between you both. A shared Understanding.
â§àŒșàŒ»â
You spent the first day back at school in a weird headspace like your drifting through the hallâs hollow. Like your energyâs stagnant, like a ghost. Itâs like you died in that fire.
Itâs like youâre not actually here anymore you walk the halls seeing but not observing. Clutching your book to your chest as you walked the halls with needy the sounds of sobbing filled the halls, friends embracing friends it made the scene even more intense.
You were counting every minute down until the end of the day until you could go home watch some tv and stare into space, you stood beside needy looking through your locker as needy told chip about what she witnessed with Jennifer. You couldnât help but pay attention to her story despite your hands searching for your school book.
âIt was like evilâŠâ needy shook her head unable to come up with words to describe it, chip watched the girl with something akin to awkward concern? Although chip was always awkward.
âI think you need to see the school shrink. I love you needy but thatâs a littleâŠcrazy?â Chip shrugged defiantly before placing a kiss to needys cheek and walking to class.
âWell, I believe you needy. Something happened to me too last night she cut the cord to my lamp and she was under my bedâŠshe pulled me to the floor- Somethings wrong.â Your voice shakes as you lowered it to a whisper confiding in needy with a nod of the blond girls head
âWe need more informationâ needy spoke pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose
â§àŒșàŒ»â
When needy called you that night that Jonas had apparently been murdered and eaten it felt like time stilled, What curse was plaguing devils kettle stealing away its people it was odd. It was like melody lane was the one thing that caused a chain of events.
It was no time before news broke again there was another murder.
then another,
then finally Colin gray died after Jennifer agreed to go out with him.
Each murder had the same mo, a cannibal killing. murdering only boys. it was poetic As it was confusing, now you didnât particularly care for any of these boys why would you? Who needed boys when you had Jennifer and needy? but you would admit to be eaten alive, left in a half finished houses, nothing but carnage with their pants down, rosary clutched in their bloody hands. It was pretty disgusting.
You empathised for these guys but truthfully you didnât care, not one bit. The only people you cared for was needy and Jennifer and Jennifer had been glowing recently despite the murders, the girl waltzed around not a care in the world, she was living her best life. until she wasnât.
Then thereâd be another murder.
and then Jennifer would look beautiful again (not like she ever stopped but sheâd look inhumanly beautiful.) And then shortly after sheâd find another boy to toy with at school and in her fling with that boy sheâd spend her nights in your bed, her soft fingers playing with your hair as you rested on her knees listening to the latest fall out boy cd And her strawberry lipgloss would leave a sheen on your lips that youâd be tasting for hours after.
And a scent on your tshirts that had you sniffing them for weeks, Then sheâd disappear from your hold again. for weeks, sheâd leave the sheets cold and her absence ever growing.
And you lay in your bed re-listening to fall out boy, and smelling her perfume on your tshirt to quench the Jennifer shaped hole in your life.
And sheâd stop glowing, and sheâd look tired, at school hair lifeless compared to its previous glowy form only a week ago.
And it began to make you wonder if maybe it was something more than just pms. It solidified your theory that something darker happened to Jennifer the day melody lane burned to the ground.
Maybe it changed Jennifer so much it made Jennifer kill these boys, you didnât forget that night at your house where she looked inhuman. where she tugged you to the floor and her lips pressed against yours with force. like sheâd have you right then and there like youâd be her last meal.
You had to confront her, Something was wrong with Jennifer check.
â§àŒșàŒ»â
It was a normal school day, nothing particularly special happened the morning your house empty by the time you woke up, the heater of your car blowing the same warm air against your cheeks as it always did, then youâd be at school the lively chatter of your fellow students excitement over the upcoming school dance was the only thing buzzing through the hallways
The various murders had become old news, by the time Colin grey died it was no longer of interest to be focused on the maneater âtormentingâ devils kettle.
Just as quickly as the chatter came it left, and in its wake left nothing but a trail of murders behind and the horribly popular song released by low shoulder that seemingly took everyone in devils kettle by storm.
You couldnât give a shit about the murders, these guys never cared about anyone but themselves, plus who needed boys they were useless anyway.
Youâre infatuation with Jennifer grew but By this point in time you began to decipher by the help of needy, that Jennifer was a succubus. The blonde had been horrified to learn her friend had been killing these boys. That Jennifer virtually died the night the band shut the van door. Leaving Jennifer trapped with them.
The realisation that you indirectly killed the girl made you want to throw up, youâd never dream of harming the girl so learning you kinda sealed her fate left you wallowing.
The school library was chilly its plastic blue chairs and sad grey carpet left you rolling your eyes. The plain white desks and rows and rows of books left you and needy hidden from prying eyes
Shutting the occult book needy and your self discovered in the library both your hands shook with the realisation your friend was infact a demon, both needy and yourself shared a mildly horrified look and in no time the both of you departed the library the blonde to chip. And you to Jennifer.
â§àŒșàŒ»â
Rushing through the halls of devils kettle highschool you didnât care to observe the faces of your peers opting to instead hurry through the halls to the change rooms Jennifer would have been only now finishing getting changed back from her flag girl practice and sheâd always stay later for a long shower, so the room would be pretty much deserted. Perfect.
Flinging open the door to the change rooms youâre met with Jennifer tying her shoes on a small wooden bench the black haired girl lifts her head as you enter the room her usual bored expression plastered on her face her lips perfectly glossy and her eyes watched you with a sense of unnerving pleasure.
Like she enjoyed reading you to see when youâd figure her out.
âI know what you areâ you tried to hide the shake in your voice when you spoke closing the change room door and stepping towards her. cringing inwardly at how blunt you seemed you refused to let the facade of fearlessness die so easily so you watched as Jenniferâs perfect lips tipped upward as the revelation
âDo you?â She dragged tucking hair behind her ear and standing up to stalk towards you bumped into the door as you stepped back you stopped the shuddering breath from leaving you when you felt her body creep in front of you her wicked eyes watched you.
âYouâre a succubus. Youâre the one killing the boys.â
âBoys are just placeholders, they come and they go.â The girl sneered her glossed lips bright as she watched you.
Steeling yourself beneath her gaze you took a breath filling your lungs with humid changeroom air;
âdo you deny it?â
Your voice was strong as you stood your eyes boring into eachother you knew your icy tongue wouldnt do the girl any real harm, sheâd had her fill she was immortal. Regenerative.
When you were met with silence Jenniferâs cold gaze calculating whether she should confess or kill you now. But the brave look in your eyes and the familiar feeling of your lips on hers sheâd grown far too fond of you.
âDo. you. deny. it.â There was no doubt in you, now you were sure, Jennifer was a succubus you just needed her to confess to ensure you were not insane. Staring the girl in the eyes you hardened your gaze and you waited on baited breath for which of you would crack first.
This time,
it was Jennifer.
breaking eye contact she turned her gaze to the ground sighing. âYes Iâm a succubus god.â The girl groaned bored
âhow did it happen?â You felt the flood gates open it had been involuntary for your concern to slip out through your cold facade
âThe band freaks like totally sacrificed me, when I got into their creepy van it was like the fog on my mind cleared and I realised the trouble I was in, they took me to the falls and I tried to run but they caught me andâŠâ the girl dragged the last bit out before plopping herself down on the bench sitting crisscrossed you sat next to the girl you felt tears well in your eyes.
Jennifer was murdered by the band freaks, and you didnât try harder to stop her from entering that van, She died because of you.
You felt a lump rise in your throat, âthey sacrificed youâ you nodded and it felt like you were going to implode looking at your best friend and imagining her bloodied corpse all alone at the falls.
âMhm, When they caught me they gagged me, and then sacrificed me to Satan- how fucking lame is that!â Jennifer rolled her eyes yet there was a hint of pain shining in her eyes maybe Jen wasnât completely gone.
âAnd well after everything happened I managed to find my way to you⊠I was so hungry but I couldnât bring myself to kill you, I like you too much.â Despite her bored tone her fingers fiddled in her lap she was nervous to confess this.
âJenniferâ your eyes shone as you watched the girl this was the closest youâd get to Jennifer telling you she loved you, atleast right now. But you understood what the raven haired girl was telling you, and it was like everything sheâs done up to this point didnât matter to you.
âJen. I donât care that you have to kill and eat boys, i donât care that youâre like a demon now? I donât care about any of it.â You shook your hands as you spoke with volition any confliction you held washed away.
âJennifer I have loved you since we were kids. you were always my girl. Fuck those guys! The boys youâve eaten, the band freaks, every pathetic morsel in devils kettle! fuck all of them! I want you, Demon and all.â You exclaimed your warm hands enclosing her cold ones your eyes booring into hers, the shiny sheen of lipgloss on her pink lips made you want to kiss her
It had been months since the fire, months since the girl had caressed your body like she was starving. Like your soft skin bled life itself into her undead heart.
You couldnât wait any longer, you only had now.
âCan I kiss you?â Your hands hovered over the girls cool cheeks as you asked in a whisper, Jennifer didnât respond instead the girl shot forward catching your lips into a kiss her lipgloss sticking to your lips as Jennifer had her way with you the girl certainly was a great kisser finally snapping out of your stupor, you kissed her back feverishly.
Both lips fitting together like pieces to a puzzle you hope to never pull back from her lips again. Youâd put all of your fears behind you even if it was just for now.
