yuma's a pathetic sopping wet used tissue of a guy but it makes me a little sad when people think that's all he is. he spends 80% of the game's story with his life actively in danger so yeah it makes sense- you see him crying, whining, and screaming most of the time until his ass actually locks in for an investigation. but when he's not in danger, like in the gumshoe gabs or in-between cases, he's more than capable of his fair share of judgemental snark. sometimes he's even a bit of a cunt. don't get me wrong- he's a major sweetiepie, but throughout the game he can range from "annoyed, disappointed mother" (like in yakou and desuhiko's gabs) to "straight up murderous rage" (like at certain points in the ch 3, 4, and 5 labyrinths) which is part of why i love him bc his time spent being mostly a doormat makes those moments feel more special. i especially like how much he fucks around with halara, specifically, after the first gab (successfully bluffing and blackmailing them? damn. even if he immediately backpedals on the blackmailing because halara is scary, he still chooses to do it. twice.) and in turn halara feels comfortable enough to joke around with him too. i really love their progression, and it gives me the impression that a yuma who feels totally comfortable with someone is actually a bit of a trickster... which makes sense, considering who his homunculus is
