This is a Steggy Secret Santa gift for Sosoane1, who likes domestic fluff, but also angst and working through trauma together. Happy Christmas, Sosoane1, from your Secret Santa - hope you like your present! 😀🎄🤶
Summary: He had come back because he wanted to see her, but she did not owe him anything, and it was up to her to decide where they went from here, if they went anywhere at all…
“Don’t you dare leave!” Peggy admonished fiercely, and they stared at each other, startled.
“Okay,” said Steve cautiously. “I’ll stay.”
(A short, fluff-centric story about a joyful reunion, our hero finding comfort after battle, and a mild case of telephone phobia.)
Read it on AO3 here.

For anyone who wants Steve's canon accurate ages throughout the infinity saga I got some important dates written out here.
'¢' in this context will symbolise he is yet to have his birthday for that year. (Ex. Steve was 93 in avengers, later that same year he turns 94)
Both his biological age and his literal age have been put on the timeline here. Biological being his age, excluding his years that was lived in the ice.
Born 1918.
1918 - bio 18 - Steve's mother dies
1943 - bio 25 - Takes the serum
1945 - ¢ bio 26 - Steve goes into ice
2011 - ¢ bio 26 - 92 - Wakes up modern era
2012 - ¢ bio 27 - 93 - Avengers
2014 - ¢ bio 29 - 95 - CATWS
2016 - ¢ bio 31 - 97 - CAWS
2018 - ¢ bio 33 - 99 - Avengers Infinity War
2023 - bio 39 - 105 - Avengers Endgame
Now Steve goes back in time to be with Peggy in 1949. Just adding 74 years onto his age would leave me with bio 113 but in the actual canon he's supposedly bio 112 so I just assume that with some weird time travel magic he lost a birthday in the mix of it all.
2023 - bio 112 - 173 - Old ass steve
I just did this for fun in my free time but I hope this helps someone if they need it 👍
#hate that i had to include the peggy dates but it had to be done 😒#Steve Rogers#steve rogers mcu#marvel mcu#marvel#mcu#i did all this bc i had a vague idea for a fic that im never gonna write but once i got in the research groove i didnt want to stop lmao#steve would never leave bucky Ive already ranted abt that so i cant here vruh

Shadow of a Shield (Old Version)
~plans to rewrite/modify~
Prologue
Masterlist . Next>>
Summary:
Steve goes back to 1949 with the intention of living the rest of his life out with Peggy. Instead, he finds an unexpected surprise. Jumping through time up until the end of Endgame.
Ao3 Link
Sometime in 1949
Steve trekked through the woods slowly. Hopefully, this was the right direction toward a particular house. Returning the stones felt faster than this short walk from town.
Luckily, no one recognized him as Captain America, though roughly three years had passed.
He wasn't sure how he would explain this to Peggy yet. Time travel alone would be odd enough. Then again, she had seen him turn from a sickly scrawny man into a tall, muscular supersoldier. So anything was possible. If nothing else, his scent had probably remained unchanged.
Just as the trees started to part, he heard an achingly familiar voice calling out.
"Jamie? Jamie, dearest, where did you run off to?"
Peeking around the last of the trees, he saw a pup, maybe two or three years old, toddling around the back of a small cottage.
She kept picking up rocks, frowning at them before dropping them for the next. Short wispy brown hair fluttered around her face in the soft summer breeze. If Steve didn't know better, he'd think she was a younger Peggy. But she was too young to be Peggy's daughter. And it couldn't be a niece either because her brother was dead. So who-?
He accidentally stepped on a twig, snapping himself out of his thoughts.
Sharp blue eyes met his own. Startled, he froze, thoughts racing.
This didn't make any sense. This girl looked like she could be Peggy and his daughter. Their pup.
"Jamie!"
The wind changed direction as Peggy stepped out of the cottage. Both her scent and the pup's drifted to him. Peggy's was still familiar: foxglove mixed with the smell of rain before a storm.
The pup's, on the other hand…
Steve had to fight back a protective growl. Somehow, this pup was his. She had no unique scent yet, being so small. It was still a mix of Peggy's and his own.
Jamie, he assumed now, toddled towards Peggy, holding up a stone.
Peggy smiled, kneeling to the child's height. "What's this, love?" she asked, taking the offered pebble.
"Pops in the woods," Jamie said, so softly Steve barely heard her with his advanced hearing.
He darted back around the tree, not before missing the shocked look on Peggy's face.
"What do you mean, sweetheart?" he heard her ask.
"In the woods." the pup insisted, sounding frustrated.
Steve didn't have to look at Peggy to see her sigh and fond look. "Well, why don't you go inside and let Uncle Jarvis get you ready for dinner? I'll give this to your Pops."
He could hear shuffling and started to panic. Should he just go now? Leave without them ever knowing? Go back to the future to be with Bucky instead?
"Steve?" Peggy's voice tentatively called out, startling him out of his thoughts. Her scent grew stronger as leaves snapped and crunched nearby. "Steve, is that you?"
Taking a deep breath, he stepped out from behind the tree, coming face to face with Peggy. "Hi." he breathed out softly.
She didn't look as surprised as he expected. Startled but was not surprised. "You're older," she said simply.
He chuckled, scratching behind his neck. "It's a long story."
Peggy's small smile made him melt inside. "I've no doubt." She looked behind her towards the house. "But I don't think we have time for you to tell it."
That made him pause. "Peggy, I came back to be with you. So we could grow old together."
Her laugh was sad as she turned back to him, that faint smile still there. "I'm not surprised. But your place is with Bucky. We both know that. He's your mate." Before he could say anything, she said, "Your scent isn't sour again, like when you learned about the 107th or when Bucky fell off the train. So either you've found him again somehow, or you've moved on."
His throat grew tighter. Peggy could always see right through him.
"But our pup…."
Peggy gave him a sharp look. "Jamie deserves a normal life. I've kept her safe this long."
He raised his hands, backing away. "It's just…" he hesitated before continuing, "You never mentioned Jamie. And I haven't seen her before now. In the future, that is."
That made her tense. The silence was almost unbearable as she faced the house.
"Jamie is unique," she said finally. The breeze blew her hair back, her scent filling the air. "She will find you when she's ready."
Before he could say anything, she turned and took his hand. With the other, she pressed something small into his palm.
"Trust me, Steve." Peggy looked deep into his eyes, her smile sad and scent content. "Trust our pup. Go home."
And with that, she left, her scent yet again doomed to be a memory.
Looking into his palm, he saw the small stone his pup had picked up earlier.
Jamie.
Taking a breath, Steve let out a sigh. He turned away from the house to teleport back to the present. Back to Bucky. Back home.
Hopefully, he’ll find his pup.

2016-Fall
Footsteps pounded down a metal hallway. An unimpressed woman looked up towards her door in a dimly lit, colorless office. At that rate, anyone coming to Mariya Ivanov’s office never brought pleasant news. How inconvenient.
She listened to the newcomer stop at her door.
A few heartbeats later, there was a knock.
Mariya rolled her eyes and monotoned, “Come in.”
A frazzled technician came in, stuttering, “Ma’am, I apol- I’m sor- What I mean to say is-”
“Spit it out or leave.” she snapped, letting out a low snarl.
The tech snapped to attention, bowing their head submissively. “Apologies, Madam Ivanov. I came to report the Black Widow Project is terminated. Romanoff and her companions destroyed the Red Room. We received the security footage right before it went down.”
Mariya held back a groan. Very inconvenient. It looks like her plans would have to accelerate.
“Very well,” she said, standing. “It seems we must take matters into our own hands, bringing HYDRA back to its former glory.”
Striding out the door, the technician scrambled behind her as the posted guard outside fell in line to follow. Both men said nothing as the alpha’s aura radiated annoyance, even without her displeased scent.
“Dreykov and Madam B were on the right track, but they always hesitated when it came to core biology,” she said as they entered a vast dismal lab as foreboding as her office had been. Scientists, guards, and technicians all stood to attention and bowed their heads in her direction as she approached the center of the room.
The cryostasis chamber in the middle of the room drew her gaze, as it always did. An eager and hungry smile came across her face. “They always took out the option of breeding. But now we can finally see if raising a Widow from scratch, then using it for breeding will create more promising results. Phase One was successful. It’s time to begin Phase Two.”
Behind her, several exchanged glances. Some were awed, some uneasy, all apprehensive.
As if hearing their thoughts, Mariya rounded to them, sharpening her glare. “Get ready to begin the de-thawing process. We won’t be making the same mistakes as the Winter Soldier project. No brainwashing with equipment or chemicals. Both have proven to be faulty. We raise the subject traditionally. I will be its main trainer. Anyone assisting will be vetted and approved by me. Contact the other team and tell them we are moving forward. They should be prepared to come to join us here.”
Her personal guard stepped forward, bowing as everyone else clambered about the room. “Ma’am, if I may offer my assistance?”
She inclined her head. “Of what, Nikolaev?”
“My mate, ma’am. She is an omega and a Widow still loyal to HYDRA. You could transfer her here to help train the child.”
Mulling over his words, Mariya considered the man before her. He was only a beta, but he had proven his loyalty to the cause and her many a time.
“If you trust your mate to be as loyal as you have been,” she finally said. “I will consider it.”
As he bowed again, backing away, she turned to the cryostasis chamber. A still, frozen, terrified sleeping face of a young pup, around ten years old, could be seen behind the frosted glass. She could barely keep from licking her lips as her smile grew yet again.
Finally.

2018-Spring
Tётушка and дядя met each other’s eyes before дядя left to the door, where shouting panicked voices could be heard, and loud noises soon followed. Not alarms? It hurt her ears.
Electricity sizzled out as the cattle prod clattered to the floor. Jamie scrambled back as
Master disappeared before her eyes. What was going on? Was this a trick?
“Come, Солнышко. We don’t have much time.” Tётушка said as дядя crossed the room.
Whimpering softly, Jamie yipped as her injuries were jostled. Tётушка didn’t let up their hold, though, which was strange. She whined louder, scared.
They shushed her softly as дядя came back to hurry them out.
“We have to be quiet, Солнышко. I don’t know what’s happening, but this may be our only chance to get you home.”
Jamie went quiet at that. Home? Really?
“Mama?” she whispered shakily.
Looking down at her with that sad smile that always answered her small whispers, Tётушка said. “No, Солнышко. Not your mama. Your pops, remember?”
No, no, that wasn’t right. Mama said not yet. Pops didn’t know her yet.
“Not yet,” she whined. “Not yet.”
Tётушка met дядя ‘s eyes again. Jamie couldn’t tell their thoughts this time.
“We’ll take her to Kamar-Taj with us. The Supreme Sorcerer should know what to do,” he said before turning to wave his hands in the air.
Jamie’s eyes widened as golden sparks floated through the air to make a circle in the air. Inside didn’t look like behind it. A moving picture? No, it wasn’t black and white and looked real.
дядя stepped through and held out a hand to them. Tётушка took it, and he pulled the both of them through as the circle disappeared. It wasn’t any quieter on this side, but everything was new and different.
Strange new voices and different noises rang against her ears. Jamie whimpered more, hiding her face in Tётушка ‘s shoulder. They were away from the scary place, she could feel that much. But the foreign surroundings were still unnerving.
A door opened, letting more sound in, which caused Jamie to jam her hands over her poor ears, crying out before she could stop herself. It quickly cut off as whoever the newcomer was shut it behind them before speaking.
“Liam Stern? What are you doing here? I thought you were under deep cover in Russia?” A man’s voice spoke, confused but kind.
дядя answered the stranger. “Plans changed. We need help. Do you know what’s going on?”
Jamie looked up to the newcomer as he sighed.
He was a bigger man. Darker skin than дядя or Tётушка, kind of brownish. Kind of like her Uncle Jimmy’s, but not as much as Happy Sam’s. He was big but like a teddy bear rather than scary. His scent reminded her of the teas she’d tried once with Mama.
“If the message I received is right, our current Sorcerer Supreme, Dr. Stephan Strange, lost his fight against Thanos. All of the Avengers did. Now half of the universe’s population is disappearing as we speak.”
All of the adults grew grim, and Tётушка’s arms tightened around her. Jamie squirmed, trying not to cry out again.
That got everyone’s attention anyway, and she hid her face away.
“Hello, little one.” the strange man said kindly, coming forward. “What’s your name?”
Jamie curled up more into herself, chewing on her tongue. Was this a trick?
“It’s okay, Солнышко, you’re safe here.”
Still not quite sure, she mumbled into Tётушка’s shirt. “M’ name’s Jamie. M-master tried to call me pet, but Tётушка and дядя help me remember m’ name every day.”
The man made a noise. She heard movement and smelled his scent change to something else as he said, “Is this-”
дядя cut in. “Yes. We found her. But she’s insistent that we don’t bring her to her father yet.”
Jamie pouted, looking up sharply. “Mama said I know when ready. Not ready.”
Tётушка let out a small laugh as the other two smiled.
Her face burned as she shrunk down again. She spoke out of turn. She wasn’t supposed to do that. But why were they laughing?
“She’s spirited. That’s good.” The man turned to her, gaze warm. “My name is Wong, little one. Welcome to Kamar-Taj. You’ll fit right in.”

2023-Fall
Coming back to the future, or rather the present, was still hectic. Bucky was surprised, but even he couldn’t hide his happy scent. That alone let Steve know he’d made the right choice.
They all returned to the tower, where everyone had been staying while things were being salvaged from the compound. Tony was still in recovery back at Wakanda, but he was awake now.
Natasha had gone there as well to get a medical exam. They weren’t sure what aftereffects there would be after her coming back with returning the soul stone.
After a lot of hesitating, as well as a lot of supportive “encouraging” [read: pestering] from Sam and Bucky, Steve called up Tony.
“Well, well, well, if it isn’t Capsicle. Not coming to see me in person?”
Steve chuckled. “I’m retired now. The shield has been passed to Sam.”
The line went quiet at that. “Wow, soldier boy is actually stepping down. Never thought I’d see the day.”
He shifted in his chair, leaning back. “Nothing lasts forever. I’m going to live my life now. Wars will keep happening. There will always be bullies. But I think we both have things to keep now.”
“Taking a page from my book then? White picket fence? House in the country or middle of the woods?”
“Something like that.” Deciding to bite the bullet, he said, “Listen, Tony. When you were a kid, did Peggy ever mention someone named Jamie? She’d probably be around her late seventies by now.”
Everything went so quiet again, Steve wasn’t sure if the line had gone dead.
“Tony?”
A shaky sigh, then, “Steve… Jamie’s dead.”
Steve’s blood froze as Tony continued.
“She was Aunt Peggy’s daughter. I found a picture of her once at Aunt Peggy’s house and asked. It was definitely a sore spot for her because she looked heartbroken, even if she tried to hide it. The picture disappeared after that too. If I remember right, she was adopted after the war. Orphaned because of the bombings. But when she was ten, there was a car crash, and… She didn’t make it. Aunt Peggy was in there with her. It was a miracle she survived.”
Everything started going fuzzy as he zoned out. Faintly, Steve could hear Bucky coming into the room. That brought him back enough into the present to answer Tony’s recounting.
“Tony, I-” he swallowed hard. “I saw her and-”
“Steve? What happened?”
Putting his head in his hand, Steve mumbled into the phone. “Jamie’s my daughter… My pup. Peggy must have had her after the crash. We’d had a one-night stand right before and…” He choked up, covering his mouth as tears pricked his eyes. Bucky’s arm came around his shoulders, and he leaned into it gratefully.
For the third time, the line went quiet. “God, Steve. I’m sorry. If you need anyone to talk to…”
“I know,” he said, voice quivering. “I’ll call you later. Keep resting.”
Steve hung up right after Tony said goodbye. As Bucky pulled him into his arms, he sobbed. Just when he had found his pup, she was gone again.
—
A hooded figure listened in across the street, perched on a nearby building. Iron Lad's customized earpieces helped her tune in certain noises and cancel the rest. He probably didn’t intend for her to use them like this, but he would understand if he knew.
Activating her private coms, she called home. Once the line was picked up, she said, “He knows now.”
“Are you going to tell him?”
Jamie hesitated. “Not yet. He thinks I’m dead now. Tony told him Mama’s cover story that the news got. And we don’t know where Mariya is.”
Tётушка’s laughter came across the line with дядя ’s sigh in the background. “Now, Солнышко. You wouldn’t be stalling now, would you?”
Standing, she grumbled, “Even if I was, I’m still being sensible. …Right?”
“Yes,” Tётушка said. “He’s still your father, but you know we’ll be behind you in whatever you decide to do.”
Lights started turning out in the tower across from her. The sadness in Steve’s voice still rang in her ears, his sobs echoing in her thoughts. She knew she was making the right decision in waiting for now, but she couldn’t keep putting it off. Her time at Kamar-Taj had taught her much, as well as her training from Tётушка. But now that the world had gone back to “normal,” their home in Brooklyn wouldn’t be as safe anymore.
“Come home, Солнышко. Your dinner is getting cold.”
Jamie smiled at that. “I don’t know how pb&j can go cold.” But she did as she was told and portalled home.

Stranger Things/Narnia Crossover
Okay, so, this was originally just me rambling in the tags on @steveshairychest’s post but uhhh i ran out of tags…..which has never happened to me before …..and then I didn’t want to hijack their post because it got wayyyyy too long and there are three parts because I have A LOT of thoughts for the lion, the witch, & the wardrobe; prince Caspian; & voyage of the dawn treader so like, this is part 1 i guess, bear with me here
Okay so, I’ve decided to go with, this is a canon compliant Stranger Things AU though Season 3 and then Season 4 still happens, but Eddie doesn’t exist in the modern world. Not 100% sure on how S4 would go in that case but hand waving that away, basic plot points happen, except they defeat Vecna, happy-ish ending, Max is FINE. Cool cool. Moving on.
In the OG post I saw @munsonsduchess mentioned in the replies Eddie as Caspian and I have ENTHUSIASTICALLY taken that to heart, not 100% sure how to work Wayne in there but that’s a problem for me an hour from now (but i have IDEAS for the steddie of it all so I will make it work)
So, The Lion, The Witch, & The Wardrobe:
So, post canon, at some point a few years post-S4, let’s say summer break between the kids Junior and Senior years, Steve, Robin, Dustin, & Max go on a vacation together. Which makes sense because the Sinclair’s, Byers, and Wheeler’s are probably all having family vacations. But Ms. Henderson and Susan Hargrove can’t take time off work to do that and Robin just wants to spend vacation with Steve, so they all go on a vacation to Europe and stay in this bougie ass Bed & Breakfast.
The Bed and Breakfast off is course Professor Kirke’s old house. Now, so we know time in Narnia isn’t accurate to time in England, so theoretically even tho it’s 1988, the kids could go through the wardrobe and still end up at the end of the long winter. I’m thinking in this universe the Pevensie’s never got to sent to Professor Kirke’s house during the war and he passed away in 1949 so the wardrobe just kind of got left in the house when it was turned into a bed and breakfast.
So, the four of them are there, Dustin and Steve are both in the room that have the wardrobe, and Robin and Max are sharing a room. At some point in the first couple of days there, Steve, Robin and Max are outside doing something and Dustin is just exploring as much of the house as he can get away with and for whatever reason, he gets it into his head that maybe the wardrobe has a false back!!! Because you know old house, old wardrobe, why not right?
And ofc it then spits him out in Narnia which is not a false back but is infinitely cooler in his opinion. Unfortunately, Dustin “what if I raise this baby demodog what could possibly go wrong” Henderson does not immediately turn around and go back, but instead goes exploring and then is happened upon by Jadis. Now, see, here’s where it changes, because Dustin’s played D&D for years and he might not have the good sense god gave a goose to not going run around a random new universe, but he does manage to clock, almost immediately, that Jadis doesn’t have his best intentions in mind. but he’d quite like to not get murdered thanks and so he plays along and mentally rolls dice and promises to bring her his “siblings” and then fucking hightails it the fuck out there
So, Dustin is back in the room, and immediately goes to tell the others. Change Number 2: they’ve all already gone through the upside down bullshit four times, and while they’re slightly skeptical, they also believe him pretty fast. It would not be the craziest thing to happen to them.
So, instead of doing the sensible thing and simply not going back into the wardrobe, they stash a bunch of supplies in it and start going in as a group to check it like once every hour or two to see if it’ll let them back in. It takes sixteen hours, by which point Steve is thoroughly over the whole thing and Max is starting to suspiciously wonder if Dustin is playing the longest prank ever on them, but it does indeed open back up and they grab their supplies and wander back into Narnia
If Nancy was there she’d be completely appalled that they don’t have any weapons on them except for Steve’s pocket knife and the kitchen knife Robin managed to steal. Unfortunately, Nancy is back in the states with her family and unaware of this.
So, into Narnia they go, Mr. Tumnus is there, since he didn’t meet Dustin the first time around, and wasn’t implicated. And then they run into the beavers etc father christmas all that
basically, book events happen similar-ish, Steve gets his sword & shield and Robin gets a bow & arrow and her horn. Because really, like, Steve is self-explanatory, going from a nailbat to a sword is the logical conclusion and by god does that boy need a shield. I think Robin would do well with a bow & arrow honestly, especially considering she seemed to do fine throwing the molotov’s and holding a bow doesn’t involve much walking/running unless the enemy gets too close.
Now, I was thinking on the cordial & dagger, and i technically slotted max into the role of lucy because dustin was the one to originally run into Jadis, but neither of them fully fit either of those characters, and I’m not really trying to make them fit perfectly. But so I do feel like the cordial and dagger fits Dustin more, especially if we want to assume he still watched someone die in S4. Not sure who…….but let’s just say he did. I’m not writing this as a full fic so that’s a problem for me never. But that would fit his character then.
We don’t have a canonical fourth gift set since Edmund wasn’t there, but I think, since they all received a weapon of some type, Max would do well with a set of dagger short swords for two handed fighting, and then maybe a map that always shows the right path? to tie in with her being the party’s zoomer?
so they get their gifts and keep going, whatever happens in the book happens I guess (I really don’t remember the small plot points) and then since no one betrayed anyone and we’re ignoring the bible metaphor of it all Aslan’s sacrifice isn’t needed and the battle is fought and won and the kids become the kings and queens of Narnia.
Now, they talk sometimes in the first couple years about trying to find the wardrobe and go home. They’re not really aware that time moves differently in Narnia than in their universe, and they’re sure that the rest of the party must be worried sick about them. But they’ve been handed an entire kingdom and Steve, whenever it’s brought up, always says that if they want to try and find their way back they should but he’s going to stay because this asshole has a savior complex and refuses to leave the kingdom he’s been given responsibility of and well, the other three refuse to leave him, and so in the end none of them leave.
But then, just like in the books, the memories fade and then it’s fifteen years later and completely by accident, they stumble back through the wardrobe and back into 1988.
The In Between:
So, they’re mentally 15 years older (36 / 35 / 32 respectively if my math is right) and now they’re back in their younger bodies in England and it’s only been maybe an hour or two and no one even knows they were gone.
Obviously, when they get back to Hawkins, which was an ordeal in itself while they tried to reorient themselves to the modern world, they call a code red and the party has a meeting where the four of them try to explain what the fuck happened.
The rest of the party wants to not believe them so bad because honestly, it’s horrifying, all four of them gone for years and years and none of them even noticed because time just, passed differently there (which is fascinatingly reminiscent of the upside down btw). The party doesn’t want to believe it, but they do, because Steve is matter of factly talking about the intricacies of running a kingdom and planning battles and treaty negotiations and Robin is explaining how you keep track of crop yield and making sure a kingdom is fed and taken care of and how to make sure you have back up reserves in case a winter runs crueler or longer than the last. Dustin casually talks about hosting castle functions when visiting rulers had come to Cair Paravel and Max talks about hunting and the dryads that taught her how to understand a river’s voice.
They don’t want to believe them but the party doesn’t lie, not about stuff like this, and no one can really deny the way that the four came back from England and no longer seem to fit.
It’s hard on the party of course. Dustin and Max can’t just slip back into their friendships with the others that easily. It’s been fifteen years for them, they’ve forgotten so much. It’s even harder for them to go home to their mother’s and pretend to be children. Robin and Steve have an easier time of it, time had only made them closer, and they’re still together even if they are back in Hawkins. It’s hard on Nancy who had started to grow close with Robin and had been looking forward to seeing Robin after they all got back from their family vacations.
But life moves on and it takes months but eventually all four of them start to slip back into their lives in Hawkins. But they still don’t quite fit, no matter how hard they try.
Steve and Max get into a mock fight one day when they’re out by the pool. Someone had brought a bunch of fake weapons, because they were getting ready for a LARP festival, and no one had thought about it past “that sounds like a fun thing to do” and one minute they’re all laughing and the next Steve has picked up a sword and Max has picked up a pair of short swords and they’re off.
They miss training is the thing, they never say it but there is so much about Narnia that they miss that it feels like they’ve lost a limb some days. Dustin misses Narnia less with every day that passes and Robin thinks some days that she’s fine in either world as long as Steve is there. But Steve and Max feel like they’ve lost a vital part of themselves and so of course they’re not going to pass up a chance to capture even a little bit of Narnia back.
The party goes dead silent as they watch Steve and Max fight. It’s obvious they’ve done this before. Max is fast her on feet and Steve is grinning, sharp in a way he never used to be. Neither of them are pulling their punches and Max jabs Steve hard in the side at one point right as he brings the sword down hard on her arm. “Guess that’s a draw,” he says, cheery as anything and Max laughs, says, “Don’t be ridiculous, you know that one’s mine. One of us would be bleeding out and it wouldn’t be me.”
They go kind of still when they turn and find everyone watching them but Robin hoots and starts making fun of Steve for losing before the silence can carry too long. Dustin joins in making fun of Max for getting hit at all. “I swear you used to be faster than that,” he says.
“Yeah, well, I used to have properly weighted swords too.”
He grimaces and concedes the point.
The point is, it gets easier and it gets harder and they try to move on because they don’t really see what other choice they have and the party does their goddamn best to get used to the new habits and idiosyncrasies of the four that came back.
It gets easier and then of course, a year later, in 1989, Steve, Robin, Dustin, and Max get called back.
to be continued.....

TIMELINE OF EVENTS : BUCKY BARNES .
a comprehensive and semi-complete timeline for my mixed media/headcanon-based portrayal of bucky. i have taken mcu events, comic storylines, and my own personal headcanons to create a blend that does not fully coincide with either the film adaptations or the comics.
this post is your guide to my canon for bucky and i recommend reading it prior to or during plotting — or i can totally give you a rundown of divergences from canon and important headcanon-based pieces of my portrayal.
DISCLAIMER : events may shift from verse to verse or possibly not happen altogether, based on the nature of plotting.
THIS POST IS SUBJECT TO BEING UPDATED.
1917
March 10 — James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes is born in Shelbyville, Indiana to George and Winifred Barnes.
1920 - 1929
1920 — Rebecca Barnes is born. 1924 — The Barneses move from Shelbyville to Brooklyn, New York. 1925 — Violet Barnes is born. 1926 — Bucky meets Steve Rogers. 1929 — Theodore “Teddy” Barnes is born.
1930 - 1939
1936 — Sarah Rogers passes away. 1937 - 1938 — Bucky attends art classes with Steve. (Bucky is not good at art.)
1940 - 1949
December 7, 1941 — The Attack on Pearl Harbor ; the United States enters the Second World War. December 1941 - January 1942 — Bucky is drafted into the Second World War ; Bucky trains Steve at Goldie’s Boxing Gym before Bucky goes to an enlistment office with Steve ; Steve is rejected. January 1942 - April 1943 — Bucky trains at Camp McCoy in Wisconsin (with periodical leaves back to New York) with the rest of the 107th Infantry, where he meets and befriends both Gabe Jones and "Dum Dum" Dugan ; Bucky is promoted to the rank of sergeant. June 14, 1943 — Flag Day ; Bucky’s last night before his shipment out to England. August 1943 — the “Captain America” comics debut to the public, to great success! September 1943 — The Battle of Azzano ; survivors of the 107th Infantry are captured by Hydra and taken to a weapons facility in the Austrian Alps. October 1943 — Bucky meets James Montgomery Falsworth and Jacques Dernier, both fellow POWs ; Bucky becomes ill and is beaten by Hydra Colonel Lohmer for his inability to perform manual labor ; the future Howling Commandos band together to orchestrate an accident that kills Lohmer ; Bucky, ill and weak, is taken to Arnim Zola to be used for experimentation. November 1943 — Bucky and the other POWs held by Hydra are rescued by Steve, now Captain America. November 1943 — The Howling Commandos are formed : Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Gabriel “Gabe” Jones, Timothy Aloysius Cadwallader “Dum Dum” Dugan, James Montgomery “Monty” Falsworth, James “Jim” Morita , Jacques “Frenchie” Dernier. 1944 — the Howling Commandos travel across the European theater, performing raids on Hydra bases, weakening their forces. January 1944 — a new character is introduced in the thrilling “Captain America” comic series: his right-hand and sidekick, Bucky Barnes, a boy wonder! ; overseas, Bucky endures weeks of mockery after being turned into a kid sidekick in these comic books. February 2, 1945 — during a mission on a train in the Swiss Alps, Bucky unfortunately falls from the train into the Danube river and is presumed dead ; Zola’s experimenting on Bucky over a year earlier is the reason for his survival ; Soviet soldiers find Bucky still alive, taking him as a P.O.W. February 5, 1945 — the Barnes family is informed that Bucky has been declared missing in action as no body was recovered, but it is the opinion of many involved that Bucky was rather killed in action ; the Barneses spend the next few years holding out hope he isn't dead. 1945 - 1949 — upon medical examination of Bucky, the Soviets observe his enhanced physiology while blood tests confirm traces of a type of super-soldier serum, though difficult to synthesize more of ; the Winter Soldier Program (then unnamed) is subsequently born with Bucky as the only current subject ; with state of the art technology (and cybernetic schematics recovered by a Soviet spy) he is given his first bionic prosthetic as the next steps of the program are planned ; they begin the process of testing human cryostasis and brainwashing and assign the most skilled Soviet fighters to adequately train and condition the subject ; stolen technology from the supposedly-fallen HYDRA is used to construct an early version of the Memory Suppressing Machine, a device that utilizes electroconvulsive therapy to inflict damage to the brain with an emphasis on the limbic system ; Bucky's memories begin to fade. December 10, 1949 — nearly five years after Bucky's death or disappearance, George and Winifred Barnes decide to finally hold a funeral for their son ; an empty coffin is buried and the headstone lists his date of death as February 2, 1945.
1950 - 1959
1950 - 1954 — as his conditioning is continued, Bucky is periodically sent into the field with handlers in order to ensure his efficacy ; he is proving useful and is in the first steps to infamy ; cryostasis has proven successful in the last decade, therefore Bucky has barely aged within this time. 1951 — The Winter Soldier is sent to Goyang, South Korea to aid Soviet forces, where he encounters Isaiah Bradley, a Black American super-soldier who was privately experimented in a successor to Project Rebirth ; unable to kill Bradley, this altercation costs Bucky this early version of his bionic prosthetic and he is removed from the field. 1954 — after the KGB is formed, the organization formally joins the Winter Soldier Project and introduces conditioning methods, primarily accelerating physical combat training ; the use of trigger words are employed for efficiency in Bucky's brainwashing, which prove to work well with improvements made to the Memory Suppressing Machine. September 19, 1954 — George Barnes passes away at the age of 68 ; he's survived by his wife and three children. 1955 - 1959 — Bucky is continued to be trained, indoctrinated, and tortured while the results are tested with field missions ; the title of “The Winter Soldier” is officially given to him by the KGB (the program being retroactively named as such as well) ; he is now considered “the perfect soldier” and is officially an assassin for Soviet use ; his very existence would come to be doubted by even the highest of government agents.
1960 - 1989
years unknown — the Soviets take The Winter Soldier out of cryostasis suspended animation in order to use him to aid in training girls of the Red Room Academy ; The Winter Soldier meets and trains with Natalia Romanova, later known as Natasha Romanova ; they work together on many missions for the Soviet Union during The Cold War.*
*NOTE : Due to my use of MCU inspiration, including Bucky's brainwashing, any romantic or sexual relationship between Bucky and Natasha is not my default canon, despite my inclusion of comic story, but it can be acknowledged with extensive plotting. The nature of Bucky's brainwashing generally implies a lack of autonomy, therefore prior plotting will be required before any plots involving Bucky and Natasha's relationship with each other from the comics.
April 21, 1967 — Winifred Barnes passes away at the age of 77 ; she is survived by her three children. 1986 — a Soviet scientist removes Bucky from cryostasis without authorization ; the scientist tells Bucky he is going to help him get home to America ; confused, fearful, and conflicted from his mental conditioning, Bucky kills the scientist ; he is found with the man’s body and is immediately put back into cryostasis.
1990 - 1999
December 16, 1991 — The Winter Soldier is sent to assassinate Howard and Maria Stark in order to obtain Howard Stark’s super soldier serum ; he is successful. December 1991 — in a last-ditch attempt to preserve The Winter Soldier Program in the last days of the Soviet Union, this serum is used on five former-KGB operatives in an attempt to turn them into super soldiers not unlike Bucky ; this is known internally as Zephyr ; the operatives are defective however and kept in cryostasis, indefinitely ; Bucky remains the only successful subject of The Winter Soldier Program ; with the Soviet Union dissolved, The Winter Soldier Program is abandoned and Bucky is left in a Soviet base in cryostasis, forgotten. 1994 — former member of the KGB Aleksander Lukin, who inherited The Winter Soldier Program from Vasily Karpov before the fall of the Soviet Union, reactivates The Winter Soldier for personal use as he begins to build his business, The Kronas Corporation.
2000 - 2009
spanning the decade — Bucky is used by Lukin in order to kill political and corporate officials, intimidate various people, and overall aid in the growth of The Kronas Corporation, which has been steadily growing within the United States and across the world, working under the table.
2010 - ?
2012 — The Winter Soldier is sent to Sokovia by Lukin to assassinate a high-ranking political official ; he successfully does so with a timed detonation – there are many casualties ; EKO Scorpion, of the Sokovian Armed Forces, being posted at the site for security of sorts, is sent to either apprehend or kill The Winter Soldier before he escapes ; Colonel Helmut Zemo is among the agents sent ; The Winter Soldier kills most of EKO Scorpion, save for Zemo and one other member. 2014 — The Winter Soldier resurfaces and sent to assassinate Steve Rogers, as Lukin and his allies see him as a threat ; Bucky is unsuccessful when Steve instead recognizes him, this recognition tampering with the programming put in Bucky’s mind decades before ; unbeknownst to anyone else, Helmut Zemo learns of The Winter Soldier’s return and independently discovers the identity of The Winter Soldier, a truth he shares with the public ; exposed, a wanted criminal, and his mind broken, Bucky fails a second time to assassinate Steve due to inaction ; at the last second, Bucky saves Steve's life from drowning ; he begins a life on the run. 2014 - 2016 — Bucky, now free from Lukin, successfully leaves the United States and makes his way to Europe where he travels around, running from anyone who might be following him ; he never stays in one place more than a month. 2016 — in yet another act of revenge, Helmut Zemo bombs a U.N. meeting, killing the King T'Chaka of Wakanda in the process ; Zemo frames Bucky for the bombing in order to flush him out of hiding ; he is found in Bucharest, Romania, where he is apprehended and taken to Berlin by SHIELD, after also having been pursued by Prince T'Challa of Wakanda ; Zemo, posing as a psychiatrist, triggers The Winter Soldier conditioning, leading him to kill multiple SHIELD agents in escaping ; he is saved by Steve and Sam Wilson and they all soon go on the run ; they are lured to an abandoned Soviet base in Siberia by Zemo ; Bucky and Steve go to Siberia ; Zemo has the intent to activate The Winter Soldier yet again and force Bucky to kill Steve ; Zemo is apprehended by Bucky and Steve and handed over to SHIELD. 2016 - 2018 — Steve, familiar with Prince T’Challa of Wakanda, asks if Bucky, his name now cleared of King T'Chaka's death, can have sanctuary in Wakanda, as he knows Bucky will be safe and hidden there ; there, Bucky is put into suspended animation while Shuri, princess of Wakanda, devises a way to remove the Soviets’ programming ; through a complicated process, this is done and Bucky is truly on a path of healing and recovery from the years of torture from the Soviets ; Bucky receives a new prosthetic, vibranium arm, designed by Princess Shuri. 2018 - ? — Bucky chooses to leave Wakanda and return to the United States ; upon returning, seeing that he is still a wanted criminal and terrorist, Bucky turns himself in ; in turning himself in, Bucky is not arrested nor incarcerated at this time, but is willing to undergo heavy monitoring to prove he is not and will not be a threat to public safety or the country’s security ; Bucky is put on trial for his crimes as The Winter Soldier (the trial is not televised, a limited number of people are allowed in the gallery, and Bucky is advised not to do interviews before, during, or directly after trial proceedings) ; during the trial, the terms of a pardon were negotiated and, when no official verdict in the trial is reached, Bucky is granted a (conditional) federal pardon ; as a condition of his pardon, he is required to attend mandated therapy to assess his psychological state and to ensure he will not be a public threat in the future ; he is no longer considered an enemy of the state or terrorist and lives as a civilian.***

HELLS LUCY!
Lucy & Motorcycles
Lucille Ball was a motorcyle fan. She owned Hondas, Suzukis, and a Harley Davidson. In her personal ife, she rode on the back of Clark Gable's motorcycle. Lucy reluctantly gave up motorcycling after she hit a curb and her bike fell on her.
A GIrl, a Guy, and a Gob (1941) ~ Dot (Lucille Ball) disapproves of ‘Coffee Cup’ (George Murphy) riding a motorcyle.
DOT: That’s how angels are made.
“Liz the Matchmaker” (1949) ~ In this episode of Lucille Ball’s radio series “My Favorite Husband” Liz (Lucille Ball) is worried about her maid Katie’s romance with Mr. Negley, the postman (Jay Novello), because he always takes her to a drive-in theater on a motorcycle.
“The Sleigh Ride” (1949) ~ Mr. Negley decides to use his motorcycle to pull the holiday sleigh, but the load proves to much and the milkman’s old horse is pressed into service.
“Safe Driving Week” (1950) ~ Liz and Marge (Elvia Allman) are pulled over by a motorcycle cop for driving too close to the curb. The policeman insists on driving their car away from the curb, but runs over his own motorcycle in the process! Marge and Liz drive away, leaving the motorcycle cop in tears, clutching only his handlebars.
This visual gag was brought to life on “I Love Lucy” in....
“Ricky Sells the Car” (1955) ~ Doubtful that Ricky will spring for their train fare home, Fred purchases an antique motorcycle. He weighs it down with all their belongings, just like the Pontiac in “California, Here We Come!” The Mertzes are even attired in vintage leather riding outfits! Viewers who know their motorbikes guess that it is a Harley-Davidson Model DL 750cc from about 1929.
LUCY: Ethel, are you seriously considering going all the way to New York on a motorcycle? ETHEL: Well, Fred gave me a choice and this beats hitchhiking.
Oops! The sound of the motorcycle crashing happens before it is even off the screen. Also, Fred’s dialogue in this scene has been noticeably re-recorded because of the noise from the crash. In the above screen shot you can see the wire that pulled the motorcycle backward.
“Lucy Hunts Uranium” (1958) ~ The Ricardos and Fred MacMurray get pulled over for speeding by a morotcycle cop.
“Lucy Drives a Dump Truck” (1963) ~ And this policeman (Richard Reeves) drives a three-wheeled motorbike.
“Lucy the Meter Maid” (1964) ~ A hybrid vehicle, Lucy drives a Cushman Minute Miser Truckster. These vehicles were especially created for traffic police who checked meters.
“Mr. and Mrs. aka The Lucille Ball Comedy Hour” (1964) ~ Lucille Ball and Gale Gordon travel across the German border driving a Vespa motor scooter searching for Bob Hope.
“Lucy in the Music World” (1965) ~ Lucy’s neighbor Mel Tinker (Mel Torme) keeps his 1962 Honda Dream motorcycle indoors. The question is - how did he get it up the stairs?
“Lucy Goes to a Hollywood Premiere” (1966) ~ A motorcycle zooms by Lucy Carmichael selling maps to the movie stars homes. This time it is the driver who is old, not the motorcycle. As the old lady races off, Lucy shouts “Say hello to Steve McQueen!” Two of McQueen’s favorite things were racing and motorcycles. He famously rode a motorcycle in 1963’s The Great Escape.
“Lucy in London” (1966) ~ Lucy Carmichael and Anthony Newley get around mod London any way they can - including motorcycle and rocket-shaped side-car.
The special was shot on location in London. Ball and Newley did the driving themselves!
“Viv Visits Lucy” (1967) ~ Trying to track down a Danfield boy, they go down to the Sunset Strip dressed as ‘hippies’ and go into a biker bar. The Police Officer’s motorcycle is a 1958 Harley-Davidson Duo Glide.
Several other motorcycles are also parked on the street during the scene. Hamburger Hovel is home of the ‘Biker Burger’!
“Lucy Gets Involved” (1968) ~ Tommy Watkins (Phil Vandervoort) rides a white 1962 Honda Dream motorcycle. It was previously seen parked inside Mel Tinker’s apartment in “Lucy in the Music World”.
Yours, Mine & Ours (1968) ~ In the Lucille Ball / Henry Fonda film, the neighbor boy’s motorcycle is run over by the Beardsley’s station wagon.
“Lucy and the Diamond Cutter” (1970) ~ Craig talks to Steve on the telephone about a part for his motorcycle. It turns out to be an air horn. Motorcycles don’t usually have air horns! Oops!
“Lucy the Skydiver” (1970) ~ Craig takes up spear fishing while Kim joins a motorcycle club. When Lucy sees her daughter in a motorcycle helmet she asks if she’s playing for the Rams football team. Lucy says she doesn’t want Kim to be another Steve McQueen.
“Circus of the Stars II” (1977) ~ Lucille Ball is the ringmaster and Peter Fonda performs a daredevil motorcycle stunt on a high wire.
In a taped segment singer / songwriter Paul Williams goes skydiving. Once he alights (just outside his circus ring target) Williams and a dozen men waiting for him on the ground mount motorbikes and zoom away through the desert.
“Lucy Moves to NBC” (1980) ~ Scotty Plummer (Scotty Coogan) wants a motorcycle for his 18th birthday. He even tries to pawn his prized banjo to buy one.
1999 ~ Postage stamps from Republic of Turkmenistan feature Lucille Ball in a diner with Carmen Miranda and Humphrey Bogart, looking at Marilyn Monroe standing outside next to a motorcycle.
2020 ~ A Lucille Ball impersonator at Universal Studios Hollywood poses in the sidecar of a Royal Enfield motorcycle. The Royal Enfield brandis the oldest global motorcycle brand in continuous production.

Ugh I can't believe I'm whining about Steve's ending again, like what is my life now?
Did Steve cuckold himself when he jumped to another timeline with Peggy?
Supposedly Steve created a new timeline where he lived with Peggy and jumped back to his original timeline just to give the shield to Sam, he made the jump around 1949 but that means there's another Steve there and that timeline's Steve is still in the ice...
What's gonna happen when that Steve is defrosted?
I guess the answer is the same as in the movies but it all narrows down if Steve made any changes in this timeline.
Remember in the other option of Steve's ending, the one explained by Endgame's screenwriters, since he goes back in his own timeline, he has a reason not to move anything so he can stay in his own timeline and reach where he gives Sam the shield, since he's able to stay without generating another timeline, it basically says that's how the timeline is supposed to be, that's where we get the whole "he's been Peggy Carter's husband all along" and creates a loop that, while there are two Steve's, it's the same Steve.
However with this other option, which I believe is also "confirmed" since it's said by the directors of Endgame and I think also in the MCU's new book which makes it the "canon", feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, he does generate a new timeline where he lives separate from his original timeline and just jumps back to give the shield to Sam, we can only infer he probably jumps back to it.
This however creates a new problem, this new timeline has his own Steve Rogers, this isn't an alternative reality where say Steve does die in the Valkyrie, Steve can't jump to other realities, he can only create new timelines when he deviates from it's intended story, it being him staying with Peggy instead of being frozen in the ice, this means in his original timeline, Peggy does in fact marry and has kids with someone else and let's remember Kang still makes sure the MCU timeline is separated from other timelines/realities, which means that even with the infinity stones, Steve can't jump to other realities, he probably doesn't even know they exists, he only knows he can create new timelines, not jump to other realities, which btw would inherently be different from his, the point of his time travel is to just deviate from his own timeline.
So let's go back to the initial question.
What happens when that timelines Steve is defrosted?
You can easily say it stays the same as in the movies and there's no issue except there is because that means that timeline's Steve is going to reach Endgame and just jump to yet another timeline, basically creating a loop of infinite Steve's making new timelines to be with Peggy.
This of course if Steve doesn't change anything, now in this new timeline, Steve has no reason to keep history the same, he knows he doesn't have to worry about repercussions on his original timeline, he knows he's in his own new one so he can do whatever he wants, he no longer has to hide from view in case he gets recognized like he would if he'd stayed in his own timeline, he can simply say he survived the crash and walked back
No one knows he's actually alive and frozen.
What does Steve do? Does he rescue Bucky sooner? Does he prevent Hydra from infiltrating SHIELD? What if Steve does in fact prevent Endgame from happening and creates his own idyllic timeline? Or as idyllic as he can with minor hiccups and no major catastrophic events and especially no Blip, but if he changes the timeline it still leaves out a major component
What does he do with that timeline's Steve?
What does that timeline Steve do if he wakes up to a world where an alt version of himself has been living there, with his girl, while he was frosted? And the other guy knew it?
Honestly the most chilling solution would have to be... if Steve made sure there was only one Steve in that timeline...
Which we know he wouldn't... would he?
So food for thought everyone

Everything wrong with Steve Roger's ending
Steve’s ending sucked. It was bad. Terrible really. And there are so many reasons. It doesn’t make sense, it’s just a bunch of plot holes, it’s out of character and I hate it.
One of the things that was said more than once, was that you can’t go back in time, change things, and therefore change your future. Because your future is now your past, and you can’t change your past. Instead, you would create a new branch in the timeline. So…do these rules just not apply to Steve?
If it went as it should have, and he created a new timeline, how did he end up on that bench? He should’ve been stuck on that other timeline, and if he somehow got out of there as it was planned, he should have ended up where he left. That machine was his way of traveling, how would he end up on the bench? It doesn’t make any sense.
And if it was the same timeline as it is insinuated in the movie, well that just goes against the rules of time travel, that the movie told us. And even if it was possible, him being there would have changed so many things. What about Peggy's husband and kids. The claim that “Steve was the husband the whole time” is just garbage. (That would make his kiss with Sharon just that much weirder). Just, no. And I think, I think, someone might have noticed if Peggy Carter just got a husband who happens to look exactly like Steve Rogers, and ages at an unusually slow rate. (Also, how old would the Peggy be that Steve went back to? He sure as hell ain’t the same guy that Peggy kissed all those years ago anymore.) Anyway, isn't this something that would get him arrested by the TVA?
Okay, so the time travel makes the whole thing already impossible, but that’s not the only thing going on. What the fuck is going on with his age? So, Steve was born 1918, at the age of 25 he got injected with the super soldier serum. At 27, he crashed the plane and went on an aging pause for 66 years, waking up in 2011. Endgame is set to the year 2023, which makes Steve 39 years old. He goes back in time to the 40’s, we don’t know the exact year, but assuming that he’d go to the time after the crash, it’d be somewhere like between 1945 and 1949. That’s 74 to 78 years he would have lived in those five seconds. That makes him about 113 – 118 years old. He should be dead. And that Joe Biden doesn’t look like a 100+ years old.
So, like I said, he has had have aged at a slower pace, due to the serum. After a quick googling, I’ve found out that the serum does affect aging. It is said to be “slowing the (aging) process nearly by half”. It is also said that it “dramatically prevents individuals from aging”. Okay, so Steve got the serum at 25. Assuming that that Joe Biden really is Steve, he has been on the serum for about 88 – 93 years (not counting the years he was on ice). So, at 25, his aging starts slowing, so whereas to a normal human, those 88 – 93 years would show up as they are, for Steve they’d be more like 44 – 46 years (physically). That would make Biden physically about 69 – 71. And that actually makes sense, that’s believable. But now we got another issue. Steve is a healthy man (physically), he is a superhuman. I’d say it’s not too stupid to expect him to live (physically) to at least 80. (Unless he gets himself killed because he has no concept of self-preservation). So that’s 9 to 11 years he’s still got, with the serum that’s 18 to 22 years. See if they’d just not done this, they could’ve said he’s off on a mission, something less direct, or just de-serum him, and that’s why we don’t see him in TFATWS. Add like a few texts, phone calls or mentions of him. Done. But now it makes no sense for him to be dead already. (Is he even? Is it canon? Or was he just chucked into some retirement home. Where did he go? Did he just die? Yeah, he was old, but not that old??) So yeah, time travel-wise, and aging-wise, none of it makes any sense. But we’ve only been through category number one. And all this is if the serum slows the aging nearly by half, and I’ve seen some stuff where it says the serum would slow it even more. I mean in Age of Ultron there’s that bit where Thor insinuates that he might not be mortal.
So, I think we all know, that this plot line only happened because they had to write Cap out, and they went with the worst option they could come up with. But seriously, the whole thing is so fucking disrespectful. They didn’t even bother to try to make it the kind of an ending that makes sense. They completely ignored everything about canon and expected fans to be satisfied with it. Just because the ending was romantic, doesn’t mean it was good.
If there is one thing that we know about Steve, is that he can’t just sit down, and watch bad things happen. Very much like Peter said. “When you can do the things that I can, but you don’t, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you.” That is very much the same mentality Steve has. (Which is why Peter would’ve been team cap if he’d known what was happening in CACW btw). If he can do something, anything, and he doesn’t, he’s going to blame himself. I mean that’s why he lied in his enlistment forms, multiple times. Just so he could do something. If he can do something, he will. (And sometimes he will even if he can’t). That man could not sit living his ‘happy life’, while he knows all the bad things that are to happen. He would do anything to save as many people as he can. And he knows that HYDRA is infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. He wouldn’t just let that happen. And he wouldn’t let Zola get hired, not after everything.
Steve also got over Peggy. He buried her. He knows Peggy has lived a good life, he knows Peggy had a husband and kids. He would never make her lose them. Steve knows that her and Peggy are in the past and are meant to be there. I mean it was literally a part of his story, acceptance. Of what happened to him, and what he could’ve had with Peggy, but can’t. He would never go back to interrupt her life.
Also, that “relationship” was terrible. I don’t believe there was an ounce of love in those feelings they shared. And to everyone who thinks they’re cute, because Peggy liked Steve before and after the serum; she didn’t. No, she showed him basic human decency before the serum, and after the serum her attitude changed completely. Peggy never wanted Steve Rogers; she wanted Captain America. But because she did show him basic human decency, and unfortunately Steve isn’t quite used to that, he took a liking to her. He found her attractive sure, but genuine deep feelings? No, I don’t think so.
After Steve had gotten the serum, saved Bucky and so on, there’s the bar scene where Peggy shows up while Bucky is trying to flirt Steve’s pants off (the usual). And here, Peggy starts flirting with Steve calling back to that “right partner” conversation, making it “their thing”. Anyway, next day and Steve is making out with Lorraine, so Peggy’s flirting clearly meant a lot to him. But the way Peggy reacted to that kiss? Fuck no. Steve hadn’t promised shit to Peggy, they were not in a relationship; she had no right to get mad at him and belittle him. AND THEN SHE SHOOTS AT HIM. That would not be okay, even if they had been in a relationship. I don’t care about any “Steve’s a supersoldier,” “Steve had the shield,” “she didn’t actually mean to hurt him.” Peggy used violence as a threat. That is not okay. And if Steve hadn’t pulled the shield up in time, he would have gotten shot. The whole thing just shows that Peggy is possessive, manipulative and abusive. That’s a red flag if I’ve ever seen one. So, their relationship would not last, and if it did, it would be unhealthy.
And this whole shooting thing likely made Steve feel bad for not feeling that way about her. (Because yk, he did something, got “punished” for it, therefore it must’ve been wrong to do so). So, he starts to believe that that’s how he should feel. The whole thing seems to be because he felt obligated to. Also, they didn’t spend that much time with each other. They kissed once. And that was initiated by Peggy. So yeah, that relationship sucks, and had they married Peggy would probably ended up being abusive and controlling.
But guess what, that wasn’t all. Even if their relationship wasn’t so fucking horrific, the fact that they chose to make Steve Rogers, Captain America, a character created by Jewish men, as a symbol to protect Jewish people, marry, a character they based off of a fucking nazi character will never be okay.
Also, in CA: TWS Steve found out that she had accepted the hiring of Zola, and other nazis. Do you really think that Steve could spend a life with her, knowing that she had said yes to hiring the man who is responsible for so much of the pain Bucky went through. So, unless Steve’s plan was to go to Peggy to beat the shit out of her, I don’t see why he would in any situation choose that. Steve has moved on from Peggy. That was literally one of the things established in CA: TWS and A: AOU. He doesn’t want any of that anymore. The 21st century is his home. And he likes the 21st century.
Okay, then the point that seems to be most in people’s minds when discussing this. Bucky. I’ve seen the comment “How could Steve abandon Bucky,” and listen, I don’t disagree. But I hate that comment. Because…Steve didn’t abandon Bucky. Steve chose to live almost 80 years without Bucky, after being apart from him for five years. For Bucky that was five seconds. And really, Steve doesn’t owe it to Bucky to be there as his therapist (harsh, I know. but it pisses me when people talk about Steve leaving as if it’s his duty to help bucky get better). That just ain’t how friendships work. Why Steve should have stayed, is because that’s what he wants. That’s his best friend. It doesn’t matter how you look at their relationship, they love each other. And that’s why Steve should have stayed. Because he would never choose to live without Bucky.
I also see people arguing that “Steve was selfish”, or that “he deserved to be selfish for once”. But that’s just ridiculous. I agree, Steve is sometimes selfish, and he deserves to be selfish after everything he has done and given for the world. But Steve going back to past? That wasn’t selfish. Which is why it doesn’t make sense that he would have done it. Because when it comes to Bucky? That’s when Steve is selfish. Even if he could have done all kinds of good in the past on an alternative timeline, Steve is too selfish to choose that after just getting Bucky back. So, yeah, sometimes Steve is selfish. And that’s why he would have stayed.
So, yeah. Steve’s ending is garbage. It’s one big plot hole after another, it’s out of character and it is just bad. I think the main reasons why it happened are; 1. they had to write him out. 2. Amatonormativity. 3. Heteronormativity. They had to write him out, but they wanted to give him somewhat of a happy ending. But because of amatonormativity, they thought that the only “happy endings” are romantic ones. And who would be person that would make most sense as his romantic partner. The guy who loves him dearly, whom he loves just as much, who cares for him, serum or not….or the abusive one who only cares about Captain America and herself, who died years ago. Well, obviously time traveling to live a life in the past would make more sense than being queer.
Yeah, you know, I think I might still be a bit angry about Steve’s ending. Who would have guessed. Steve deserved better, and dammit he deserved to actually heal from all the shit he has gone through. Steve’s ending was bad writing.

Richard Loo, Richard Monahan, and James Edwards in The Steel Helmet (Samuel Fuller, 1951) Cast: Gene Evans, Robert Hutton, Steve Brodie, James Edwards, Richard Loo, Sid Melton, Richard Monahan, William Chun, Harold Fung. Screenplay: Samuel Fuller. Cinematography: Ernest Miller. Art direction: Theobold Holsopple. Film editing: Philip Cahn. Music: Paul Dunlap. We tend to think of the American civil rights movement as beginning on May 17, 1954, when the United States Supreme Court handed down the Brown v. Board of Education decision, declaring segregated schools illegal. But it's worth giving credit for the climate change that led to the decision to many precursors, including, of all things, the Hollywood film industry. Timid and tepid as "race-conscious" films like Pinky (Elia Kazan, 1949) and No Way Out (Joseph L. Mankiewicz, 1950) seem to us today, they were made by major directors, and showed a willingness to confront American racial conflict that would have been unwelcome a decade earlier. But maybe no movie suggests how profound that change in attitudes would become than Samuel Fuller's The Steel Helmet, an unabashedly low-budget movie, shot in ten days, by a director regarded as second-string and a producer, Robert L. Lippert, known as "The Quickie King." It's a war movie with all the clichés of the genre, including the old familiar melting-pot cast of soldiers, except that in the war movies of the 1940s, made as morale boosters, the ingredients in the melting pot were mostly of European origins: Irishmen, Italians, Swedes, and so on, and a mix of Catholics, Protestants, and Jews. But Fuller's Korean War-era melting pot added an African-American medic and a Japanese-American sergeant to the mix. And it directly confronted the issue of racial discrimination when a North Korean POW taunts both men about their lives back home. Granted, the response of the medic, Cpl. Thompson, is a little disappointing, essentially a these-things-take-time shrug, but the fact that a black actor, James Edwards, has been included in the cast, and on a more-or-less equal footing -- he sasses back when sassed -- is extraordinary. And the POW's mention of the American internment camps for Japanese-Americans is one of the first references in a movie to what was then still a little-known blot on American justice. Because Fuller is just so damn good at telling a story and keeping the action hot, all of this goes by without feeling like a blatant attempt to stir the liberal conscience. If his characters are stereotypical -- Sgt. Zack (Gene Evans) isn't much more than the hard-bitten, cigar-chomping old hand, and Lt. Driscoll (Steve Brodie) is the greenhorn officer a bit out of his depth -- Fuller still knows how to put them into play. He works miracles with locations that are clearly not Korean or even Asian -- they were shot in Griffith Park in L.A. -- and with studio sets -- a door in the Buddhist temple slams and the wall visibly shakes. It's doubtful that The Steel Helmet converted any racists in the audience, but the fact that it must have got them into the theater at all -- it grossed more than $6 million on a budget of a little over $100 thousand -- is a tribute to Fuller.

Title: One Last Dance
Paring: Jun as Captain America x Reader as Peggy Carter
Genre: Slight Angst
Word Count: 2113
Writer: Whattodowithkpop [Lio]
Summary: What happens when Steve goes back in time to finally be with Peggy in this alternate time line?
A/N- This is part of the 'Assemble' writing project put together by @daybreakx. Go give the other fanfics in this project some reads as well, a lot of talented people participated!
*****
It had been a couple years since everything that happened in L.A with the dark matter and the rift generator. I had stayed in L.A for a year, more high profile cases that needed my help, although many speculated I stayed only for Sousa, which I enjoyed his company, but I wouldn't stay somewhere I couldn't be helpful. Sousa and I served each other's fancy for awhile, but even though Chief Sousa was a good man and protected others, he reminded me of Jun in a lot of ways and it was hard to think about all those memories so soon after losing Jun.
My heart wasn't ready to love again so soon and it would never love in the capacity that it loved Jun. When he was lost a piece of my heart was lost with him. I was too hasty trying to fill that hole that can't be refilled. Sousa and I only saw each other for a few months, deciding it was best to keep it professional. After I finished the case of Jack's attempted murder, Jack and I went back to New York, the place I belonged. New York was where I belonged and I couldn't part with it for long, so it was only a matter of time before I came back. And in my heart, I knew if Jun came back, he would look for me there, not in L.A.
Now it was September 1949. The air was crisp with a cool breeze as the bronze and gold leaves flew with the wind, the trees no longer able to hold onto their leaf extremities, letting them be taken by the breeze and watching them float further away from them. The weather was beautiful so I tidied with my door open, my screen door letting air in through the small holes and into my house, giving it a fresh smell. I dusted and put things away, taking the chance while I had a day off to get everything organized at home. I knew once I finished I could go out on the town and enjoy the night without worries of trying to stay incognito.
It didn't take long for me to finish tidying up, putting the duster away as I heave out a sigh of content, seeing how clean everything was. I walk over to my radio, turning it on to let soft melodies play as I enjoy the moment I was in. I was shocked, though, when I heard a knock on my door, making me turn around to face the who waited at the door. I was prepared for an altercation if it was needed, but I wasn't ready for what I turned around to.
There he stood, his brown hair was falling over his lashes as his Captain America suit hugged his form, however it was an upgraded version from the one in 1945. He looked healthy, his shoulder wide and his body fit like it had been that year. I felt I was hallucinating, watching him smile at me like he used to back then. My eyes filled with tears as I tried to hold them back.
"Jun?" I ask, my voice weak from the shock my body felt at seeing him.
"Hey Peggy." His voice was soft, his eyes filled with tears as he stepped into the house, walking up to me.
I froze, tensing, causing Jun to do the same. I realized the improbability of him actually being here and worried why I was seeing him in front of me. "Jun, how are you here?" I ask warily, Jun smiling with a small shake of his head.
"You were always cautious." Jun smiles, making my heart stop, truly believing it was him. "I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the Stork Club that night, although I think I saved you from a terrible dance.
I felt the tears resurface as I open my mouth to respond to him, but stumbles sounds is all that comes out. "I can't believe you're here." I get out, reaching my hand out to touch his chest, feeling how real he was.
"Have I got a stories for you, Peggy." Jun reaches his hand up, placing it over mine, pressing it further into his chest. "I've missed you so much."
"And I, you." I clear my throat, clearing any emotion from it, however it was futile as emotion bubbled back up.
"Did you save me a dance?"
I let out a watery chuckle, nodding because I didn't trust my voice. Jun smiles as he wraps his arms around me, pulling me against his chest as he begins to sway to the music. My arms wrap around his upper back, resting my head on his chest as I sway next to him.
I lost track of how many songs passed, I lost track of the sun falling in the sky, all that was left was the afterglow of the sun having set. I look up at Jun, feeling content with having him back, however a questioned lingered in my mind as I pull away just enough to talk with Jun, but still stay close as he continued to sway us.
"How are you here?"
Jun smiles, but his smile had some sadness.
"It's a long story."
Jun sits down, me following suit as I still can’t believe he’s here. As we sit he tells me everything, from him waking up in ice to moments ago when he time traveled back to this year. He told me some thing had to remain secret for time line reasons, but even with him saying that I wondered if he kept anything, all of his stories seeming confidential.
“I had to come back to you, Peggy.” Jun says, his shy demeanor having become braver since I’d last seen him.
Tears flooded back in as I looked at him, my heart swelling at having him in front of me, however it wasn’t the only reason I had tears.
“Jun.” I say his name, having missed the way it sounded. “Are you sure it’s wise to stay here? They may need Captain America again.”
“I don’t want to fight anymore.” Jun tells in honest, a sigh heaving from his chest. “I belong here. I belong with you.”
I feel tears fall over my cheeks, my next words hurting me more than I could express in words.
“You belong there.” I let out a shaky breath as I lay my hands atop of his. “They need you there.” I turn away as more tears fall, feeling slightly embarrassed at the excess emotion I project.
“Maybe I’m needed here too.” He bargains, his eyes captivating the feelings of his heart breaking.
I smile despite my sadness, trying to make it easier for him. “We know that if you were needed here you would’ve been uncovered from the ice sooner.”
Jun fell silent, his heart breaking silently in front of me, making mine follow suit.
“Jun, I love you.” My voice broke, emotions overwhelming me. “But I wouldn't feel right taking one of the future heroes to myself."
Jun knew how Peggy was. She was the strongest girl her knew and he knew how stubborn she was too. It was one of his favorite things about her, but it's what was bringing ache into his heart in this moment. He wanted to be done with the fighting. He'd saved the world so many times and all he wanted now was a chance to live his life with her, a chance he never thought he would get but here he stood.
"I don't know how much more I can take without you." He admitted, his voice small as the radio continued to play slow songs. "I'm tired, Peggy."
I looked at this super soldier, his strength unbeatable, his speed unmatched, a heart so big it was no wonder I fell for him. And here he was, defeated on my couch saying he needed me to go on. My arm went around his shoulder, hugging him closer as he sighed against me, relief being conveyed in his sigh. I thought awhile, not wanting him to leave, but not wanting the world in the future without the Captain America they needed these past few years.
"I think you should return." I admit, hearing my accent becoming thicker when I spoke softly, knowing it would be hard for Jun's resole as it fell over his ears. "What if I meet you there?"
Jun pulls back, looking at me, my smile mischievous, one I wore a lot when we fought the war together. His eyebrows burrowed in curiosity, waiting for me to continue.
"You and I know one of the sharpest minds ever to grace this earth happens to be our close friend, I'm sure he can bring time travel up a few years. You go back and I'll come to you, you can even save me a dance." I felt excitement fill me at this idea, the adventure I was sure to have by this invention.
"You do a lot of important things for the future." Jun mentions, his hopeful face falling.
"Then they will have to make a new future, whatever comes of it you and I can fix it, together." I smile, his eyes meeting mine, making me realize how much he had grown since I spoke with him last, the Jun I knew before was too shy to look at me this way, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it., seeing all his emotion in his eyes, baring it all for me to witness.
"Dancing has changed a lot." Jun's teary eyes lift with his smile, these words agreeing to my idea.
"I'll learn fast." I wink at him.
"I'll wait for you, Peggy, as long as it takes." Jun mentions as he he stands bringing me into his arms to hold me close for another dance.
"I'll be there before you even miss me." I promise, dancing with him until the sun set, the moon rising being Jun's queue to leave for the future. He waves at me in the street, his smile brighter than when when he arrived, making my heart swell. I watch him materialize into nothing, disappearing before my eyes, the only proof of his presence was the warmth he left with me that begin to fade with the autumn breeze. First thing in the morning I'd speak with Howard and begin working to meet Jun.
~
Jun stood in the empty lot, watching his surroundings as the sun set in the evening. The spot he found was where the old Stork Club had been, long since it had been torn down. It was surprising nothing had been built in its spot, it seemed like fate had left it open, so he and Peggy could meet here where they were supposed to all those years ago. This was Jun's second night here, waiting for Peggy to arrive in this spot asking him for that dance he saved her. He wasn't sure how time travel would worked in the past, it probably wasn't as advanced as it was when they'd used it in the present, so he knew he would have to keep waiting until Howard figured out all the data and specifications, just like his son had done.
However, two days turned into two weeks and those weeks turned into months. Jun had told Bucky about what happened and Bucky had lost hope for his friend long ago, but he never stopped Jun from going to the empty lot that used to host The Stork Club, he couldn't bring himself to tell Jun to give up because they had found each other even after all these years and neither of them thought they'd see each other again. However, it hurt Bucky to watch his friend leave every night and not return until deep into the morning hours.
On the ninth month of waiting, Jun felt the negative effects of waiting, both physically and emotionally. He wondered how long Peggy had waited for him that night and wondered if she would just tell him to leave her in his memory and continue on without her, but Jun couldn't. He would wait for her forever and that's what he was going to do even if it's the last thing he did.

Shadow of a Shield- Timeline
Series Masterlist
Summary:
My version of the MCU timeline for my fanfic. You don't need to read it, but you're welcome to if it would help with context! *Important note: This does contain context spoilers for the prologue and parts of the main story, also subject to change as time goes on*
Note:
I haven’t finished watching all of Agent Carter yet, though I did my best to follow it somewhat, as I did like what I have seen. This page will be updated periodically, as I’m still in the process of writing and things shift from time to time or get added in, so this should reflect that.
Timeline/Deviations:
1945-
Peggy and Steve briefly together before the final fight in the first CA movie (after Bucky’s “death”)
Jamie was born on October 25th, 1945
-Everyone is told she was adopted as a war orphan, though the truth is known only to a few (such as Jarvis and his wife, but not to Howard Stark)
1946-
SHIELD created
1947-
Peggy moves to NYC
1949-
Steve goes back in time (Jamie is around 3, almost 4)
He does not stay but returns to the present
1956-
Jamie is captured by HYDRA (in the summer, so she’s 10)
1997-
Bucky escapes after a mission, realizing he’s in the late stages of pregnancy and wants to protect his child from HYDRA
Becca is born August 15th, 1997
2004-
Bucky captured again by HYDRA with Becca
Brainwashed to forget her after being told she’d died
Mariya Ivanov is put in charge of Becca’s upbringing, as she’s already in charge of monitoring Jamie’s health in cryofreeze
2005-
Nat’s “graduation ceremony”
Mariya proposes the idea to merge Nat and Bucky’s DNA to make more super-soldier children
2006-
Will and Mare are born on February 28th, 2006
2015-2023
Follows mostly as canon
-Jamie is unfrozen by Mariya Ivanov after the events of Black Widow (2016)
-Will and Mare are separated by Mariya soon before the Blip
-All of the children [with the exception of Mare] are later rescued by former SHIELD spies inside of HYDRA during the Blip (2018)
-Raised by them until everyone is brought back
-Attends Midtown starting in 2020; senior year starting in 2024 (when she’s turning “19”)
Deviations:
-Sokovia Accords exist, but after Civil War, they put them on temporary hold to negotiate and make them more reasonable
-Tony Stark doesn’t die with the snap (saved by Wakandan intervention via sorcery portal)
-Steve brings Natasha back when he returns the Soul Stone
-Everything deviates after Endgame, starting with Far From Home being different because of Tony Stark being alive and able to help Peter
Their story officially starts beginning of summer in 2024, some months after Endgame, right after Far From Home; the prologue begins right after Endgame
Becca is 26 at the start
Will and Mare are 18 (their birthday was before the start)
Jamie is 18 at the start

What would a continuation of Peggy’s story look like to you, whether after Endgame or just a continuation of Agent Carter? I know a lot of people here didn’t like her evolution past Steve (I thought it was fine) and as somebody who generally likes both seasons, what did you think? I like both, but I kind of thought they portrayed her very differently in Agent Carter than in the Cap movies. It’s kind of hard for me to imagine what Peggy’s evolved character would look like with Steve.
Ooh. That is a really good question. Thank you for asking!
To start things off, I’ll say I don’t view Peggy’s character evolution as being dependent on losing Steve. She was already an established agent before she met him and a hero in her own right. I could write a whole other post on this, in many ways Peggy’s a secondary hero in CATFA. Her desire to make a difference in the world was already established and remained central to her character after his “death.”
That being said, I don’t discount the experiences Peggy (and Steve) had during their separation in terms of shaping their characters. I’ll get more into that here in a minute. I also think SHIELD would be founded whether Steve was around or not. It’s the founding of SHIELD that I consider to be the end goal of Peggy’s character arc. It’s her legacy in the mcu- what leads to the Avengers being formed.
Now with Endgame, there are two interpretations of the ending. One being it’s a branch off timeline. The other being Steve was Peggy’s husband the whole time. I personally prefer the branch off timeline and given the introduction of the multiverse in the mcu- it goes in line with that.
No matter which perspective you prefer, it’s stated in the Endgame script that Steve returned to 1949. Which is roughly the year we know SHIELD to have been founded. My bet is Steve returned to Peggy shortly after it's founding- Peggy’s character trajectory remains intact regardless.
If we were to see Peggy's story continue with another season of Agent Carter. I would like to see the lead up to the founding of SHIELD and the founding thereof. Which is what I was most looking towards when the show was airing. If we were to see Peggy’s story post-Endgame, the branch off timeline does offer possibilities, such as rescuing Bucky earlier and stopping HYDRA from infiltrating SHIELD- which I think would be fun to explore. As would seeing Peggy process Steve's return.
As I mentioned before, I don’t discount the experiences both characters had during their separation. I think it’s shaped them into the people they needed to become. When they’re brought back together- they are who they need to be. I have no doubts as to their compatibility knowing what we know of their characters. As we saw in CATWS, they still clicked even though 70 years had gone by for Peggy.
You have two heroes who started off together, get separated and came back together in the end. Call me a romantic but I think that’s a really nice bookend to their story and one that brings it full circle. With the exception of the idea of saving SHIELD, I think anything we could see after that initial dance would be a nice bonus for Peggy (and Steve) rather than anything else. They would just be living out the rest of their lives at that point.

Does it not bother you that Peggy hardly knows Steve? And I don’t mean this in a negative way, I just don’t understand. They didn’t know each other very well-I can see how there’s a romance there, but it was more of a once-in-a-lifetime flame that never went anywhere, because it couldn’t. They both turn into such different people by 1949 (when he goes back). Again, I like Steggy, just wondering what your thoughts were.
Why do you think they hardly knew each other? They knew each other and worked together for over 2 years before he went into the ice.
And when he came back, both were a bit different, yes, they had grown and developed - but they weren't significantly changed people. Peggy was still a confident badass, driven by the intention to make the world a better place and Steve was still a selfless man with a heart of gold. And both were still absolutely in love with each other.
Peggy had wished for a 2nd chance to keep Steve safe - which she got. Steve wanted a nice life with the woman he loved - which he got.
They knew, respected, and loved each other and that never changed.

ᴏᴄᴛ 𝟸𝟾, 𝟷𝟿𝟺𝟿
ᴏxғᴏʀᴅ, ᴇɴɢʟᴀɴᴅ
Music blared loudly as people danced drunkenly.
Events like this were perfect, nonetheless, when people were intoxicated and loose tongues during such an event were rampant.
This just so happened to be the reason why Steve and Peggy were at this particular party - in pursuit of leads on Hydra and the whereabouts of Bucky Barnes.
They arrived a bit late to the party, as it had gotten going. They were able to slip in virtually unnoticed; the outfits they wore made them relatively anonymous, easily blending in with everyone else as they threaded their way through the crowds.
“I’m going to get a cocktail,” Peggy announces. She leans in to whisper in Steve’s ear. “I think I've spotted our target. Keep an eye on that man over at that table on the far left corner. He may be the one we’re looking for. Don’t let him leave.” she leans away, her voice returning to its normal volume. “Do you want anything to drink?”
“A rum and coke, if they have it. Don’t worry about me if they don’t,” Steve responds, his eyes trained on what could potentially be their only lead in weeks.
Converse to the jovial attitude of the room, their target seems to be a bit on edge, glancing around the room anxiously every once and a while. Thankfully, it seems he hasn’t noticed (or simply didn’t know who they were) Steve or Peggy yet.
That was good. As far as anybody was concerned, Peggy and Steve were merely a couple enjoying the party like everyone else.
Steve sighs, deciding to make his way to the dance floor to look a bit less inconspicuous. He gets bumped by dancing people quite a bit on his way there, and he muses to himself, wondering if Peggy would even make it with the drinks still full.
Finally finding a spot that’s less crowded while still having the benefit of seeing their target, Peggy makes her way back over to Steve, drinks in hand.
"Did I miss anything?" She asks, handing him his drink.
"No," he replies, downing the entire rum and coke in one gulp.
They continue to stand there, observing the room and everything that’s going on. As they'd been observing everyone to see if any of them were Hydra agents who were wanted were attending. To their knowledge, they noticed no one that stood out, no one who exhibited suspicious behavior, apart from the fact that some were taking pictures, as any normal bystander would do at a social event such as this.
“He’s still here,” Steve says.
“Good,” she responds. “We’ll have to make our move on him as he's leaving. No reason to cause a scene in here...there could be other enemies here."
Steve puts his arm around her, pulling her closer to him. “It’s been a long week. I'll be glad if we even manage to catch him,"
“Agreed. I just hope we get a bit of a break during the holidays. It’ll be our first Christmas as a married couple, you know.” she points out, gingerly sipping at her drink.
“Hey, yeah, you’re right.” He grins. “I’ll have to get you something nice,”
“Well, you have a little less than two months to find something, so I expect something nice.” She chuckles. “...I’m only teasing, of course. I don’t need anything special.”
Steve laughs right along with her; despite knowing that if she asked for the entire world, he’d figure a way to give it to her.
-----
“We’ve been here…” Peggy pauses, glancing at her watch. “...Four hours now. Has that wallop even moved from his table?”
The crowds had drastically thinned; at this point, Steve and Peggy had been doing a lazy sort of slow dancing, waiting for their target to leave so they could follow him.
“I’m half-convinced he knows something’s up,” Steve mutters. “Maybe he’s trying to wait until everyone but him and his goons are left.”
Peggy hums, leaning her head on his shoulder. “If that’s the case, then we’d be outgunned. If those so-called ‘goons’ at his table are working with him, that’s a five to two match.”
“What are you suggesting? It’s too late to get back up now.”
Peggy doesn’t have an answer for that.
The song ends, and the band then announces they’ll be playing their last song of the evening.
“Evening? More like morning. It’s past midnight,” Peggy grumbles.
“You’re only grumpy because I woke you up early this morning.”
“Yes, but only because waking up someone at five in the morning for a very unfair run against a super soldier is an absolutely valid reason to be grumpy.”
Steve raises an eyebrow. “Hey, now. You said just a few days that I was allowed to wake you up early,”
Peggy rolls her eyes. “I only said that because I happened to wake up with a certain someone between my legs, Darling. I never said you could drag me out of bed for a jog.” She steps away from him, pulling her purse strap higher on her shoulder. “Stay here for a second, I’m going to the powder room. If the target leaves, go after him without me.”
Steve nods, watching her disappear to where the lady’s room is.
The song ends, and with that, everyone seems eager to leave abruptly - which, in Steve’s experience, people leaving like that usually doesn’t end well.

When Peggy gets into the restroom, she nearly bumps into a woman standing right by the door.
Peggy offers her a tight-lipped smile, muttering an apology and brushing past her awkwardly.
“You must be the famous Agent Carter, I presume?” she hears the woman blocking the door ask, a slight German accent accompanying her words.
Peggy freezes for a second, turning around.
“That depends on who’s asking,” Peggy replies, keeping her gaze trained on the woman. Her hand is on her gun in her purse - but she decides to let the woman say her piece.
In response, the woman sneers, laughing humorlessly. “Funny. My employer happens to be asking, in fact.”
While it wasn’t surprising to Peggy, as a lot of people and/or their employers were out to kill her, she did make a mental note of that anyway.
“And who might that be?” Peggy tilts her head, offering the woman a condescending smile.
The woman cracks her knuckles, a cruel smirk on her lips. “It doesn’t quite matter, does it?”
Peggy draws her gun in reply. “No, I suppose it doesn’t.”
The woman reached to swat the gun out of Peggy's hands, but Peggy grabs her outstretched wrist and used her momentum to yank her to her side.
The woman yells wordlessly, knocking Peggy into the marble sink, making her back protest in pain.
With Peggy stunned for the briefest moment, the woman grabbed at her hair and tried to rip her head down for a stranglehold, the awkward angle making Peggy get trapped in it. Thinking fast considering her finite amount of oxygen, she uses whatever momentum she has left and uses all her strength to make the woman stumble and bump against the wall with a thud.
Taking advantage of the momentary distraction, Peggy takes the heel of her shoe and steps on the woman’s foot as hard as she can, making her lose her grip on Peggy.
Peggy slips out of her grasp, grabbing her gun and forcing the pistol to her throat.
“Hands where I can see them,” Peggy growls, cocking the gun just to scare her into doing it faster.
The woman grunts, gritting her teeth. She grits her teeth until there’s a small, but distinctive cracking noise and the woman begins to foam at the mouth.
“Heil Hydra,” she gasps, slumping over.
Peggy sighs inwardly.
All that work and a potential back issue for another Hydra cyanide tooth.

"The target?" Peggy asks, smoothing out her dress.
"He’s getting ready to leave," Steve replies, jaw set. "I heard something about him having a car ready."
Peggy nods, gun in hand hidden by her purse. "Okay, I'll go see if I can stop him from leaving. Take down his men if you have to. We don't want them following us."
"Got it."
Once Peggy gives a nod of assent, she's off after the target. The man is in the process of gathering his belongings, most likely aiming to leave.
And if he manages to get to his car, they'll have lost their chance at catching him.
She shadows the man, following him out of the building.
He's still with his bodyguard, and Peggy can only make her move with him alone.
Once they hit the parking lot, the man waits around for a moment as one of his bodyguards unlocks his car. Peggy takes the opportunity to make her move, kicking the guard in the back of the head and knocking him unconscious.
The man turns towards Peggy.
"Tsk, tsk, Agent Carter," he muses. "I didn't think you were so eager to get a word in with me."
Peggy smirks, gun trained on the man. "I figured I'd settle things quickly."
“I'm sure you did, Agent. I wasn't quite expecting a run in with you so soon." The man puts his hands out. "But, of course, I'm sure you're used to running up against my men."
Peggy cocks her gun, keeping one eye on their surroundings to make sure neither of them gets killed. "I'd just prefer the chance to talk. You can come quietly or you can-"
"You're right," the man interrupts. "But you're not going to get it. I have to say, Agent Carter, you seem to have some special interest in me."
A warning chill goes up Peggy's spine. "You're hiding vital information."
The man doesn't look surprised. "How astute of you to notice, Agent. And yet...why are you and Captain Rogers so doggedly pursuing me? Is it something...personal, perhaps?"
"It's my job to notice," Peggy replies, ignoring his question. Her finger tightens on the trigger. "I'd prefer to talk, but if you make me, I'll shoot."
The man looks over his shoulder, and she can see the gears in his head turning. He's stalling for time.
"Oh, Agent Carter," the man sighs in an exasperated tone, "You know you won't. And you shouldn't. I'm not a common criminal, you know." and with that, he knocks the gun out of Peggy’s hand, making a run for it.
Peggy curses, picking up her gun and chasing after him, raw adrenaline coursing through her veins.
The man weaves through the streets and alleyways, making some scrapes and slightly obstructed spots.
He slips into an alleyway, but she's not far behind him.
She stumbles down the alleyway, pulse racing, gun still in hand.
Peggy spares a look over her shoulder, and she spots her target at the end of the alleyway.
The man is leaning against the wall, as if in relief, and she knows that as soon as she gets to him, he'll be gone.
She takes off after him, taking off at a sprint.
The man runs once again and she's able to track him. Peggy follows the trail made by the man, especially when he cuts down a different alleyway.
She picks up her pace, and just catches up to the man when he darts into a neighborhood.
She nearly bumps into Steve, who saw him and also began chasing him.
Their target turns the corner, nearly tripping down the stairs in his haste, before opening a door and locking it behind him just as Peggy nearly has him.
A frustrated groan escapes Peggy, throwing her head back in annoyance. She sidesteps, gesturing to the door as Steve is down the steps. “If you’d be so kind?”
Steve sighs, wishing he had left his shield somewhere convenient at the party instead of at the hotel room. He braces his shoulder, taking a step back and ramming his body into the wooden door.
The lock breaks, thankfully.
They cautiously walk in the hallway, lit only by noisily buzzing overhead lights. The floor and walls were concrete and the room smelled faintly of rotting wood.
“So,” Peggy says in a low voice, her gun at the ready. "What are the odds that this is a trap?"
"I think we just stumbled into someone’s storage area or something," Steve replies, examining the room. There was nothing but a few empty crates and miscellaneous junk. “Still, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.”
"It'd be nice if it wasn't. I'd like to get out of these heels sometime today." Peggy says, reaching a doorway. This door, however, was left unlocked. “Though, I think Hydra would keep their doors locked,”
The door leads to an empty hallway, and at the end of it was a staircase, and with any luck, it would lead to their target.
They both pause at the set of steps. “Tripwire,” Steve points out.
“It would probably make the steps fall out from under us,” Peggy says, stepping over it. “Or something else quite-day ruining,”
“Something like that,” Steve replies, followed by muttering something about an ‘Indiana Jones’.
They traverse the winding staircase, making their way up to an open door leading to outside.
Approaching the entryway with caution, they find their target with his hands on his knees, panting and gasping for breath.
He sees Steve and Peggy, and he begins to back away, yelling something in German before rounding a corner.
And before they can catch up to the man, two Hydra agents from the party earlier appear.
The agents were armed and ready to fire, making Steve and Peggy throw themselves to the ground. Bullets fly over their heads, hitting the brick wall behind them.
Both of them scramble to their feet, Steve taking cover by crates, and Peggy using the staircase to her advantage.
Both of the agents advance on their targets, getting closer.
Peggy aims for the one's legs, hoping to interrupt their shots.
Steve leaps out from cover, tackling down and knocking out the one. "Peggy, we gotta go!"
“I can handle him, go! I’ll catch up with you!” she yells.
Steve doesn't hesitate, chasing after the man in the last direction he saw him going.
He soon finds the man in an alley, trying to climb a wire fence. The man spots Steve and he tries to weave around him.
The man's back foot collides into a wet puddle and he stumbles. Steve tries to grab his coat, but he quickly uncaught himself.
The man tries to walk another step, but a gasping sound comes out as he's forced to his knees.
Steve knees him in the back of the head and he drops to the ground in a heap.
Steve grabs him by the collar. "Alright, I'm only going to say this once. Tell me where the Winter Soldier is," he growls.
The man says nothing, glaring at Steve.
He takes something out of his pocket, and Steve realizes all too late that it was a smoke bomb.
He coughs, the acrid smoke invading his airways and making his eyes burn.
It takes a few moments, but the smoke finally clears, and the target is long gone.
Something on the ground grabs Steve's attention.
The target may be gone, but he did leave something behind.
-----
"Well?" Peggy asks expectantly.
Steve sighs. "He got away. Good news is, I'm pretty sure I've gotten a name for him, or at least a pseudonym." He holds up the man's dropped wallet triumphantly.
Peggy smiles lightly. "Well, at least we can say tonight wasn't a total waste. We got some sort of information and we got to go dancing. All in all, I think tonight could've gone worse," Peggy says.
Steve wraps his hand around hers as they begin to walk back to the hotel hand-in-hand. "I don't know, I'd think a night out with you, in general, is a win anyways,"
"So cheesy," Peggy taunts, unable to hide a tiny smile nonetheless.
"You love it,"
"Mmm, sometimes."
Steve makes a dramatic, exasperated noise. "Man down, Peg. I'm deeply hurt now."
Peggy snorts. "Tragic,"
"Nope. I'll never recover from this. You've wounded me. I hope you're happy, Peggy."
Peggy laughs, playfully punching him on the shoulder. "You're so dramatic," she says with a chuckle.
Steve tilts his head. "Well, maybe, but it was worth it to make you laugh anyway,"
"I- you're-..." She trails off with a soft laugh, shaking her head. "I love you."
"I love you too," Steve replies.
