“I take full responsibility for this,” Allison says, joining them at the counter and giving her drink order to the barista. “I should have taught him how to date back in college.”

“I would have ignored you,” Derek says, sliding his card back in his wallet after they’re all done ordering. He hadn’t dated much in college—he hasn’t dated much at all since either if he’s being truthful, and nothing that could even resemble a relationship. A few dates during the off-season, a hook-up occasionally if he needed it, but Derek’s always been fairly content to be single.

Until he got to know Stiles.

I'd absolutely love some sterek fic recs because I'm trying to broaden the ships I read. I've watched the first 3 seasons of teen wolf but haven't read any fics and don't know where to start. I'm fairly open to reading any content, although I'm not the biggest fan of like the common school/coffee shop etc AUs.

Also I love how you're gotten into blogging hockey recently. Have you read any hockey rpf since getting into nhl? Personally sidgeno and mattdrai have my heart, but like I said I'm looking for new ships to read like sterek.

As always, read the tags etc etc. Probably a lot of these will be author recs. I will say Sterek has the potential for an age gap concern but I don't read fic where that's written as a predatory thing, FWIW, but I do read some where Stiles is 17 but where I feel like it's handled at least somewhat gracefully

Gravity's Got Nothing on You by @zosofi is great - I really like all their stuff actually!

@kalpurna's Fascination and @drunktuesdays' bigger, longer and uncut are both *gems* - so funny.

We've Written Volumes (in Blood and Scars and Ink) by @notthequiettype is absolutely brilliant, one of my fav fics of all time, way up on my reread regularly list. They only have one other Sterek but I love that one too (and they write hockey rpf but I haven't really dived in there yet!).

The Moon's Gonna Follow Me Home by @turningterrific is stunning. They're SUCH a good writer, although sadly this is their only Sterek (but they have written some amazing hockey RPF as well!).

Every stumble and each misfire by @everchanginginks is fucking phenomenal. True story, I read this fic and then didn't keep track of it but it stayed in my brain, and I spent literally HOURS combing my AO3 history to find it, and when I did, I promptly downloaded it and created the "Best Ever" collection on my Kindle specifically for this fic.

Everything by @suburbanmotel. They are an incredible writer and even more incredible person and I'm so lucky to call them a friend!

I really love @lunacanislupus-22-blog writing but particular favorites are: Feel it like a fever, burning through the night , Spirit grows when love goes away and I know that you love me, even when I lose my head (and I'm not normally one for amnesia fics because they make me SO ANXIOUS but this one is SO good).

Cornerstone by Vendelin is really good too (mind the tags on this one).

By Any Other Name by @entanglednow is fucking phenomenal (and again with the amnesia fics?!?!) and so so well-written. Check out all their stuff!

I really love @devildoll's writing very much a lot! Particular favorites include: Come with Me and Walk the Longest Mile (and I don't usually gravitate to post-apocalyptic fic even though I love the genre in fiction but this one is fucking brilliant); Stand Fast in Your Enchantments (painful and so good); My Heart Comes Tumbling Down (OH MY HEART) and Love, Like a Sentence of Death.

There's Monsters at Home by @wellhalesbells | calrissian18 is a classic and really good! They've written a ton of really great fics (the Hilary Duff lyrics one is a another personal favorite!)

Not Quite Lost (Not Quite Found) by @alocalband is gorgeous. Just. beautifully written.

stuck in reverse by @crazyassmurdererwall is also really good! Definitely check the tags on this one, as it is Stiles still in HS.

Start Small, Like Oak Trees by smallbirds is really lovely. Everything of theirs that I've read, I've really liked.

Okay, just a couple more I promise!!

The Difficult Kind (series) by whiskey_in_tea is an old one but really really wonderful.

The First Date series by @halffizzbin - the whole thing is delightful but I absolutely adore the final installment!

I will note that many of these authors also have Hockey RPF fic, JUST SAYING (I really am fascinated as to what that pipeline is??). I've read a ton of hockey RPF as well (sidgeno for sure) and I'll check out mattdrai now!!

Thanks for the tag, @thotpuppy! I've been thinking about this off and on the last couple of days. I really do enjoy this sort of thing, both reading others and making my own. Blank after the cut.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

135. 23 of which are drabbles

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

354,120 total, all since the beginning of 2020

3. What fandoms do you write for?

The big ones are Teen Wolf and Black Jewels., but I also write Perilous Courts and The Hollows, along with some other assorted SFF book fandoms. I have a lot of Men's Hockey RPF fics, but rarely revisit the fandom. Spideypool's another fandom I fell out of at some point.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Tell Me No Lies (Spideypool, 5k. Explicit, grocery store meet-cute)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to respond, but sometimes it takes me a while, especially when I have a lot I want to say.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably it kind of vanishes away (Teen Wolf Dargent, 866 words, Explicit, two sad and lonely men getting off together)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I don't know what I would say is the happiest, so I'm going to go with the kitten is happy (Perilous Courts Julien/Whisper, 300 words, Gen) because it's the most unequivocally happy ending I've written in ages.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, I've been pretty fortunate. I've gotten a few shitty comments, but nothing I felt the need to dwell on. Another commenter yelled at someone for one of them once, months after the fact. That made me laugh.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes. I don't know what this means by kind, exactly. I write a lot of wall/door sex and work knotting in whenever possible, especially if I can make it accidental.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

As a general rule, no, but I did co-write a Spideypool/Men's Hockey RPF one where Peter Parker was the guy inside the Gritty suit.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Daemon Sadi/Lucivar Yaslana from Black Jewels

Black Jewels modern AU of sorts where magic comes back and I strip out all of the gender bullshit

16. What are your writing strengths?

Characterization is my greatest strength, without doubt. I'm also good at writing banter and funny moments during smut.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I'm really bad at planning ahead or sticking to a plan I've made. I think overall it's worked out in my writing, but it can get me in trouble during the process. Plot in general isn't a major strength for me.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I've done a curse or two, but in general I avoid it both because I don't speak any other languages and because I don't think there are many good ways to incorporate translations.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Technically, it's probably the Wheel of Time message board RP I did on Dragonmount in the nineties, but if we're talking about actual fan fiction it's Men's Hockey RPF.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written?

Man, this wasn't easy. I genuinely enjoy my writing and reread my stuff a lot. I'm going to have to go with no words needed (Black Jewels Daemon/Lucivar, 565 words, Explicit, zero dialogue smut with wink kink) because it's different and because I like it more every time I read it.

The smallest, most inconsequential thing; so small Stiles can’t believe he’s been fixating on it for the better part of nine weeks—and the only reason it’s only been nine weeks is that Derek doesn’t come to many of his games and it took him at least a month to figure it out.

Messy Draft Monday

Here's a little bit from my FTH fic for eli -- this draft doesn't even have a name yet, but for the quickest context it's an NHL au (Derek plays for the caps, Stiles for the Wild), they meet at the all-star game, and Derek has a daughter named Soph :) thanks for the tag love @outtoshatter <3

The weight on Derek’s pants suddenly lifted as Soph slid over to hang onto Hot Player, leaning all of her weight onto him like she had onto Derek, and she announced, “Stiles is going to be the fastest skater!” while holding eye contact with Derek like it was a challenge. 

“Is he now?” Derek replied, looking up at “Stiles” while he said it, and was secretly thrilled to see the hint of a red blush creeping across his face. 

“Stiles” sheepishly scratched at the back of his neck. “Well, that’s what I’m competing for, anyways. Soph just has lofty goals.” Suddenly, the hand on the back of his neck was reaching around so he could smack himself in the face. “Shit – I mean, shoot!” he exclaimed, with an apologetic glance at Sophia, free hand resting gently on her shoulder. “I realize just now that I didn’t introduce myself and your daughter called me by a name that you probably think is made-up.” 

Derek couldn’t help the snort he let out, but he felt his grin widen. 

“I’m Stiles Stilinski, on the Wild, obviously.” Stiles gestured at himself in the distinctive forest green gear before sticking his hand out for Derek to shake. 

“Your parents name you that, or is that something you chose for yourself?” Derek asked, eyebrows raised even as he reached out and accepted the handshake. 

“You don’t want to try and pronounce my first name. Too many consonants. So should I just call you ‘Soph’s Dad,’ or do you have a name underneath the eyebrows?”

Derek’s grip faltered around Stiles’s warm hand as he choked on a laugh. “Derek Hale,” he managed to squeeze out, and fuck, there was that smirk, and Derek did, in fact, guess correctly – those lips wore a smirk better than they had any right to.  “Nice to meet you, Derek,” Stiles replied, eyes alight, and Derek tried to squash the feeling that evoked down immediately.

Five Random Things

Five random things from my current WIP, tagged by @outtoshatter

This is from my Sterek Hockey AU that I’ve been thinking a lot about the past couple of weeks.

Stiles was born in Poland. He and his family move to Vancouver when he’s 5.

Derek is not athletic but likes to run. Talia forces Derek to take Stiles on runs.

Derek gets to drive the Zamboni and works at the concessions of the ice rink.

Stiles doesn’t consider himself superstitious, but Derek draws a triskelion on him before a game, and he gets a hatty. Then Derek has to draw a triskelion on him every game.

It takes place in the same universe as Check, Please, so Stiles is a Jack Zimmermann stan, watched Jack and Bitty kiss when the Falconers won the Stanley Cup, and came out to his parents shortly after. He always has bi flag tape on his stick during warm-ups.

THE THING IS. despite having little to no interest in following actual sports in real life, my fanfic weakness happens to be sterek sports aus. and my OTHER weakness (well, okay, i have a lot of weaknesses) is fictional hockey (thank you, check please). not to mention you just have a knack for writing sterek-flavored sports things. <3

awww hi! i’m not picky at all! which i know, is the worst 😅 i’m a big fan of hurt/comfort, fluff/domesticity, fake or secret relationship/didn’t know they were together, etc. if it has a happy ending i’m happy 😌

as far as AUs go, i’ll literally give anything a go if the hook pulls me in. coffee/book/florist/tattoo shop, any sports (big fan of hockey, surfing or dance), fantasy/royalty, sci-fi, is it too indulgent to say firefighting…🤔 but i’m open to it all 💖💖💖 i’m sorry i’m probably leaving this super open-ended lol
