I think the thing I’m most excited for (and what I hope actually gets explored) in Spy x Family isn’t so much the drama of the secrets being revealed - I’m excited for what comes after.
Imagine that sort of awkward transition stage where everyone is getting used to this new normal. Loid and Yor are tiptoeing around each other, not really sure what to make of their partner who has been lying their ass off the whole time. They’re both kinda mad about it, but also can’t really find too much fault because they’ve been doing the same thing themselves. Imagine a montage of all the Not Normal things both of them are guilty of and the both of them having a “ooooohhh that makes more sense now” moment.
But then treading into angsty territory: say their missions align or something and they have to work through the fact that their partner is not a civilian. Loid constantly ordering Yor to get back and take cover, throwing his arm up to shield her, but then Yor ducks around him and takes down, like, ten armed guys before he can even blink. Yor having a mini war in her head between Yor Forger and the Thorn Princess, because the Thorn Princess has a damn job to do but Yor Forger is constantly fretting about Loid and what he must think of her and if she’s still a good mom for Anya when she just skewered a grunt’s head so hard his skull exploded. It results in neither of them being on top of their game and eventually having to work through their issues before succeeding (maybe whilst tied up back to back in a holding cell or something).
But then there’s this sort of relief? For Loid especially, because suddenly it’s not just him protecting this family. He knew Yor was good at keeping Anya safe, but before it was as an insanely lucky civilian who’s very good at “yoga”. Now… He knows that it would take something monumental to take Yor down. Anything less than that and she’s walking away covered in blood that’s not hers. There’s this sense of safety that starts to bubble up, which is strange, because it should be the opposite. Yor’s one of the most dangerous assassins in the country - hell in both countries - and yet Agent “I don’t trust anyone” Twilight has complete faith in her.
Meanwhile, Yor’s feeling more validated in months because even after learning Loid/Twilight’s biggest secret…he’s still here. He didn’t just pack up and leave in the middle of the night the way spies do whenever they are compromised. And he learned about her and yet he stayed. He included her in on his schemes. And suddenly living together is just…so much easier. She doesn’t have to sneak out in the middle of the night or hide her injuries. She doesn’t feel ashamed any time her incredible strength slips through. She doesn’t feel like she has to lie to everyone - she has Loid to talk to now. She’s never had someone who knows but who also isn’t a Garden agent themselves. And with him being a spy there’s a level of understanding of the job that makes it really easy to be open about it. Probably to a worrying degree, but Yor trusts Loid with her life despite him being a foreign spy.
And then there’s the question of the degree at which the secret’s out. Do they know about Anya? Does Anya know? (Or more specifically, do they know that Anya knows?) (Anya comes home one day and overhears them talking about spy/assassin stuff and after months of being exhausted trying to help them keep both secrets she just sighs really loudly, “FINALLY!” Only to then be questioned on how she knew.) Would Yuri or Franky find out? Garden or WISE? But it would be fun in there’s a little while where the family knows about each other, the three (four including Bond) having a wonderful little stretch of time where the first true test of their trust for each other is passed with flying colours. (Enough for a Stella Star, even!)

I think we're not talking about the hot tub scene enough, at least not in the way we should.
Everyone is like "!!! Parallels!!" Okay yeah.
But do you realize how much it takes to have feelings for someone, get rejected, tell them to move on, jump into a relationship, and then 3rd-wheel at your crush's date, invite them BOTH to some ski weekend with your dad (because you felt like you couldn't do it alone), for some reason pick up your crush at her dorm instead of your own girlfriend ("covey, car's here") and then see her kiss her roommate who is also in a relationship, ask her not to ruin your ski trip, cover for them both, only for your dad to bail which is your insecurity. (And have the gang realize it and also that there are no pictures of you) Then realize your bully from middle school is on the trip.
Then have a love letter of your crush appear and one big fight DOES ruin your ski trip.
Minho SAID in s1 that lying to your friends is the worst and something he would never do, but he did it for kittey.
He didn't just step into the tub; he did in clothes so Kittey wouldn't feel uncomfortable, talked to her without judgement, and even when his gf appeared, he stood in the tub with Kittey.
I have this theory that Minho's playboy agenda might just be a protection mechanims because 1) he experienced his parents splitting up and his dad cheating on all of his wives 2) his dad prioritized his brother over him and his mom barely cared as well.
That man can cook for himself because he always had to make food for himself if u ask me... and because of THAT, he helped Kitty at Chuseok.
this whole thing is triggering Minho so badly because he's used to being the second choice - I would even go as far as saying he is so obsessed with his looks because he wants to be seen.
So as soon as Kittey has this theory about Stella, he sees it as someone criticizing his choices again.
And he STILL choses Kitty after that. That is how important it is for him, because he knows what a broken family looks and feels like.
With Yuri specifically, Kitty is the second choice and even though her chaotic being/feeling (and Yuri's messed up feelings AND STELLA'S DOING OFC) messes up everything, he stays by her side because he knows what it feels like to be the second choice.
Which basically means he transmutes some of his family trauma for her sake. Just sayin.

Strixx Like a Forger
Trying to get back into writing before I start work. Working on a sickfic with a baby Yuri being raised alongside Anya... These are basically just notes for inspiration.
...Trying to understand one child was difficult enough, but two was near impossible. To make matters worse, Yuri was almost the complete opposite of Anya. He showed little to no interest in playing with toys and only partook in Anya’s spy games if he could protect his older sister. Television shows were beneath him, drawing was mediocre, and make-believe was for babies. Three facts he’d stated bluntly and firmly when Anya had tried to get him to play “Bondman” with her, Bond and Chimera.
Unlike Anya, Yuri spent most of his time reading; flipping through his textbooks or some of the random books Loid had laying around the apartment in an attempt to make it feel more “lived in.” He’d stay at the dining table, studying or scribbling notes over his homework for the next day, his legs swinging from the chair while Anya threw her fists in the air, mimicking the moves Bondman was using on one of the villains in the living room. The contrast between the two was unbelievable.
Truth was, Yuri was smart. Bright and intelligent for his age, which made keeping up this rouse harder to pull off the more he questioned it. The 11-year-old picked up on things. He was observant and detailed; he paid attention to things most normal kids wouldn’t. And with his sister, it was like he was always on high alert. (Made it harder to keep the whole marriage charade up; sure, it would have been easier to tell the kid, but Yor was pretty certain it wouldn’t have to come to that. And given that he went to Anya’s school, it would be harder if two kids knew their secret versus one.)
Loid had pretty much given up on having Anya get all eight Stella stars in order to become an Imperial Scholar to meet with Donovan. Yuri, however, was much closer to achieving that, having already gotten two Stella within the three months he’s been here. Not to mention he was also in Deme. Desmond’s class; another step closer to closing out Operation Strix.
Loid sighed, folding his newspaper in half and setting it down on the coffee table as Yor set down a cup of coffee. She placed her own cup on the table before sitting on the couch across from him, glancing towards Anya as the young girl attempted a karate kick. Bond boofed as the six-year-old landed a gentle hit between the dog’s ears before letting out a soft howl and falling over dramatically, covering his eyes with his paw.
“Don’t worry, Mama! I, Anya Forger, have defeated the evil dog!”
“Very good, Anya! I’m so grateful to have such a skilled daughter!” Yor clapped loudly as the girl bowed. Bond boofed again before wagging his tail and sitting up, licking the six-year-old’s face, causing the latter to laugh loudly...
...
...Was this how he clung to his sister? Made sense. After all, she was the only thing he had left. Even if he were to see Loid as a father figure like Anya, or at the very least, someone he could look up to, there wouldn’t be much of a point in the end. Once everything was done and Donovan Desmond was dealt with, Operation Strix would be disbanded… or at least, Loid Forger would disappear. WISE would probably collaborate a false encounter with an unstable patient or long-term business overseas that would involve Dr. Forger’s research. Whatever the case, the Forger family would be no more.
Anya’s grasp was always gentle. Playful. If anything, Loid cautioned her to hold on tighter, afraid she’d lose her grip and fall with as much as she squirmed…. Yuri’s grasp was almost… desperate. Like he was afraid to let go; like even the slightest movement would cause the other person to slip from his grasp- slip through his fingers. Like he’d disappear...
...
“Loid, you’ve been so kind to Yuri and me over these last few weeks… but I can’t help wondering, since our arrangement has changed slightly… if you’re still okay with this. I-I mean, I… would understand if you would prefer Anya to have a mother, or I guess… if-if you would prefer to have a wife… um, what am I trying to say here… sorry,”
“Yor, are you happy with our arrangement?”
“What?! Absolutely!? I, just- I, now that Yuri is back with me, I don’t want you to feel obligated to continue our arrangement and-”
“Then Yuri is not a bother. As long as you’re happy, then I am as well. Yuri is a bright, talented kid. Besides, I think it will do Anya some good to grow up alongside someone; perhaps she’ll even learn a thing or two from him.”
“Are-are you sure? I mean, I can talk with my uncle and-”
“Yor, Yuri is a part of your family which means he is now a part of mine. If you want him here, then we do too.”
“I still don’t understand,” Yuri said, crossing his arms as he stared towards his sister, “Tell me again, Yor. How I went to Uncle’s for six months and come back to find out you’ve been married for a year… which means, you got married six months before I went to Uncle’s, and yet, you what? Didn’t tell me? I mean, how could you not tell me? I didn’t even know you were dating?”
“Oh, Yuri, you know how I am sometimes… I guess, I just forgot,” Yor laughed softly, cradling her tea mug between steady hands. Yuri huffed, throwing his arms up, “Yeah, but I’m pretty sure you went on a few dates before I left. And then you just forget to tell me. This whole thing seems really weird. I mean, how do you know that man-”
...
“I don’t want to be her uncle,” Yuri pouting.
“Hm… then why don’t you think of her as your little sister?”
“Little sister?”
“Yeah. So now you have a big sister and a little sister.”
“I… have a little sister…”
“Honestly, I’m kind of jealous of you.”
“Why.”
“I see the way you and your sister are around each other, and even though your ages vary dramatically, it’s easy to see you’re extremely close. I can tell you both care for each other a great deal. I never had anyone like that growing up; I was on my own for most of my childhood, and to know that Yor spent some of hers with such a strong brother there to protect her, to look out for her, makes me envious in knowing I never had that. I’m so proud that you were able to look out for her and be there for her, and I can’t imagine it’s easy to have some stranger step in to take over. So why don’t we look out for her and protect her together?”
“Together?”
“You and me, Yuri. We’ll protect her together. Come rain or snow or wind or fire. Even if a giant meteor crashes into the Earth, we’ll both give everything we’ve got to be the person she needs. To make the world a better place for her and for Anya to live in. Deal?”

YOOOO.
Firstly, I am so honoured I somehow infected your dreams with Iarcy. Secondly, how the hell did your brain create such a good angst idea for them??? You are COOKING.
I've actually had an idea of something like this for a while, but haven't written it because it is VERY TOXIC YURI and fear of judgment restrains me (if I didn't have that, I would be spitting out toxic Iarcy like you wouldn't believe).
But now I have an excuse to write it! >:)
BASICALLY: (TW: TORTURE, SUFFERING FROM WITHDRAWL)
A year and a half before the beginning of season one, Iorda (born in Magix, and just a regular dark magic witch) gets kidnapped by a wizard cult that basically carves runes into her skin and forces potions into her for experimentation. She is imprisoned for four months in the cell the cult put her in.
At this same time, the Trix are busy planning the best ways to steal Stella's ring. They agree that they need a scapegoat and someone who can act for them when it is too risky for them.
So, Darcy has the wonderful idea of manipulating someone into helping them, but she still has to find someone who would listen to them and who would be easy to manipulate. Darcy finds out about this wizard cult and ratts them out to the authorities.
Why?
To get Iorda out.
Darcy fibs that she's a friend of Iorda's, and so she helps her 'heal' while Iorda is basically confined to the apartment she had before getting kidnapped by the wizard cult.
Iorda suffers from agonizing withdrawal symptoms from the potions that she was forced to drink. Sometimes from that pain, she can barely move, but at least she has someone who seems to care for her, right?
WRONG.
Darcy puts on a front of caring for Iorda long enough until (while Iorda is suffering from a bad withdrawal attack) she gets a chance to bury Iorda's physical and emotional pain using her psychic magic. Iorda protests to that, saying that it's not going to help in the long run, but Darcy does it anyway.
This starts making Iorda's mental state HEAVILY reliant on Darcy's magic. She feels very emotionally agonized without having that pain magically buried, but Darcy still puts on a caring front; at this point, she is lying through her teeth.
A year later (yes, Darcy did this for a year) Darcy asks Iorda to help her and her sisters steal the Ring of Solaria. At this point Iorda, although reliant on the witch, has been seeing that Darcy is not as trustworthy as she thought.
Iorda says, 'fuck no.'
But then Darcy explains that, one, she knows all about Iorda's trauma and that she is not above using it against her (true). And as a psychic witch this threat of even more dangerous, because Iorda knows that Darcy could indeed force her to see things.
But Darcy also shows Iorda something; the witch has a small vial with a dose of adoris, the potion that she was forced to take while under imprisonment. It's only a sleeping potion, but it is highly addictive with agonizing withdrawal symptoms.
Iorda is scared as fuck at the sight of the adoris, because taking it would basically mean throwing all of her healing progress right in the gutter. She's blackmailed, and yada yada helps the Trix with stealing Stella's ring.
BUT GAH NOW I HAVE A REASON TO WRITE TOXIC AF YURI.
(I would credit you and your unconscious ofc! But is it okay if I merge your dream with my toxic idea?)
(The white room could maybe me a museum place where Darcy and Iorda would go to find more info on the ring)
@magixfairyix Zia I have a contribution to your Roman Empire!!
So, a few days ago I had a dream, where Iorda was a robot, owned and totally controlled by Darcy. In the end she (Iorda) got sick of being puppetted all the time and left Darcy to die in some room, filled with water and there also was some huge white screen. After that Iorda bought herself a dress (and that was the first decision she made on her own), then she heard the voice saying:
"Looks good on you"
Iorda turned around and yep, there was Darcy behind her back >:)
This is where the dream ended :')

My Thoughts on Spy x Family Chapter 75
Warning: This post contains spoilers for Chapter 75 of the manga
Firstly, the stellas were very much deserved all around. All four of them were very brave the entire time, and even though I think Anya and Damian each deserved an extra stella for the bomb collars around their necks, I wouldn't be surprised if Eden has a policy of not giving out more than one stella at a time to each student.
Becky wanting to use the event to launch her singing career is hysterical and honestly a very 6-year-old thing to do.
Tumblr media
Now for the parents' reactions:
Mr. Blackbell wins 2nd place in the Most Concerned Parent Contest. He was literally ready to go to war for her and started bawling the moment she was safe.
Tumblr media
The Anya/Yor reunion was sweet and went down pretty much as I expected. I am glad Anya got to break down and cry now that she and everyone else are safe.
Tumblr media
Twilight's reaction was kinda underwhelming, but I'm banking on him just absolutely breaking down once he gets back home. He's probably still running on adrenaline and hasn't really processed anything yet.
But Melinda. Holy shit. This woman is complicated. Where do I even start with her?
Tumblr media
I'm noticing how the positive, caring thoughts/emotions come first, and then are followed by the appallingly cold stuff. It's like her first, instinctual reaction is to love and worry for Damian, but she's desperately trying to convince herself she doesn't care.
Interestingly enough, the way she's talking here makes me wonder if she is Donovan's second wife. Not once has Melinda ever mentioned Demetrius, even with the Mommy Club. She did, however, bring up Damian in conversation with Yor.
Tumblr media
If she is indeed Mrs. Desmond No. 2, then I'm very curious ab what might have happened to her predecessor. Her being Donovan's second wife would potentially explain the seemingly large age gap between Demetrius and Damian.
It also seems like she didn't want children, or at least didn't want to have children in this particular relationship. Given what we know of Donovan and what we now know of Melinda's psyche, I think its safe to say he is at the very least emotionally abusing his family and quite possibly doing much worse. He seems like the type to pull some messed up psychological shit. It would make sense imo for Melinda to not want to bring kids into that kind of household. But I can imagine her wishes not being respected, partly bc of societal pressure and partly bc Donovan doesn't seem to care what anyone else wants.
That might explain her abrupt attitude switch, if she has loads of Donovan-related trauma. She literally went from Yuri-levels of devotion to and obsession over her son to wishing he'd died in the hijacking within like 0.1 seconds after Donovan was mentioned. She even calls him "that man" instead of "my husband" or "your father", which is honestly very telling.
I wonder if Melinda trying to convince herself she doesn't care about Damian is so that Donovan can't use him against her. If this is the case, then Donovan getting wind of her actual feelings towards Damian could be disastrous for them both. This of course doesn't excuse her behavior in the slightest, but is one interesting theory to explain her mental and emotional state.
Melinda seems to think that Damian's existence traps her in the Donovan household. She both loves him because he's her son and resents him because he keeps her tied to a waking nightmare, hence her wishing he'd died in the hijacking. She probably thinks that if he'd died, they'd both be free. If she didn't have him to worry about, she would likely run away to the in-universe equivalent of Italy or something. I can't imagine her being happy in her current situation.
All in all, I'm starting to think that living in the dorms is really the safest, healthiest option for the Desmond kids. They may face ridiculously high expectations, but at least they have a solid routine and aren't in a house where they have to wonder if their parents actually care for their well-being.
I think it would be fascinating if at some point Melinda suffers a breakdown and ends up a patient of everybody's favorite psychiatrist, Loid Forger. What other kinds of issues lurk beneath the surface of her mind?

Day Two - Actor AU
Hey, I got Day Two up. Nice.
Yuri was your average freak.
He was small and quiet and wore glasses that looked too big for his face. Every single kid in his year was twice his height and thrice his size. He’d been bullied so bad that his mum had actually gotten herself involved, but no matter what the school did, they never seemed to be able to get it to stop. So Yuri stopped telling them.
But when he got a part in Story Mode’s second season, he’d been certain he was going to burst with joy, shock and downright anxiety all in the one go. It was, without a doubt, one of the best things that had ever happened to him. Not that any of the bullies actually believed him; all he’d got from telling them was his head dunked in a toilet. But it didn’t matter. They’d see he was telling the truth when the first trailer came out.
Yuri wasn’t sure whether or not it would make the bullying better or worse. There were some people who thought Story Mode was stupid, after all. As though they’d actually bothered to go see it.
But it was more than just that. Because Yuri was honestly finding himself having fun.
There were twelve different actors playing Jesse; Yuri was finding it a little hard to remember all their names (they were startlingly similar, though), so he sort of just ended up calling them all Jesse, to their amusement (but it was fine, because they had taken to calling him Radar; he was fairly certain they couldn’t remember his real name either). They were all so nice as well. A lot like the popular version of the character they were playing.
Ashley was the actor that played Petra. Yuri had been embarrassingly excited when he’d first met her (okay, he’d been embarrassingly excited when he met every actor that played a role in the first season, he’ll admit it), but the redhead (which turned out to be dyed) had just laughed and ruffled his newly gelled hair, telling him she liked him and completely ignoring the angry cries of the hair stylist he’d just left.
Lukas’ actor (or Scott, although he responded to both) was just as kind as his character. He’d helped Yuri multiple times when he got lost and always shot him an encouraging smile whenever he screwed up his lines. Which was often. Embarrassingly often. To be honest, he was a walking embarrassment at this point.
But, at the same time, he had fun. An odd combination, but it was true.
Then there was Jack and Nurm. Or, rather, Fred and Mark. They hadn’t known each other before auditioning, but the two had practically clicked. Fred actually had a blind eye, too; something about getting a bit of glass stuck in it and getting it infected a few years ago (Yuri was still trying to decide if that was cool or just really gross). Mark was even quieter than Yuri; and when he did actually speak, it was in a low muttering that only Fred seemed to be able to hear. Which was just downright coincidentally amazing.
Yuri hadn’t really talked to Stella’s actor, but from their few interactions, she’d been nice. Her name was Ashley, like Petra’s actor, but she’d said that she’d always liked to have Stella as her name. Yuri hadn’t even realised until way later that he’d taken to calling her Stella instead of Ashley; the actress didn’t seem to mind, though.
JB was Romeo’s actor; he’d already made multiple jokes about Shakespeare, mostly (of course) Romeo and Juliet. One particular joke had been during screening, when he’d been dangling five foot in the air from a harness, and had proclaimed his everlasting love for Jesse while quoting something from what Yuri was pretty sure was the balcony scene (the fact that it was a male Jesse that was steadily turning red had just made it all the funnier).
He didn’t see Axel and Olivia’s actors all that much (he was fairly sure they were called Brian and… Natasha? Yeah, Natasha), but that was fine; apparently, they were only appearing briefly at the beginning and then again for the final thing. While Yuri, as a fanboy, was a bit disappointed by this, he decided not to voice it. He was embarrassing enough as it is.
The familiar ring of the bell tore him from his thoughts. Yuri looked up from where he’d been doodling equations on the side of his notebook, blinking as the teacher tried to yell over the chaos of teenagers eagerly packing away their things to go home to remind them that their homework was due tomorrow. Of course, Yuri’s mother had been sure that he was on top of his homework, especially with him needing to go to the studio for most of the day, pretty much every day. Then again, he’d always made sure he was on top of his homework. He just needed to make sure he did it faster and earlier than he used to now.
Yuri shoved his books into his bag and swung it onto his back, making sure to tuck his chair back under his desk before trailing after the other teens darting out into the hallway. His mum was still at work, so the Jesse’s had taken it upon themselves to take turns picking him up from school. Something Yuri had tried to stammer his way out of, because he was fairly certain (still was) that they had way better things to do than pick up some teenager from school, but they’d insisted.
He slipped out the front doors, pausing at the top of the stairs so he could see (sorta) over the hundreds of teenage heads, trying to spot Jesse’s car. He swore that they all shared one car, because he was sure it was the same one every time. Either that, or there were twelve identical cars parked in the studios parking lot. He wasn’t sure which theory was funnier.
He must have been lingering too long. Maybe he’d been blocking someone’s way. Or maybe they’d just decided the average little freak standing on the edge of the stairs had just been too good an opportunity to pass up.
He supposed it didn’t really matter. All that mattered was that one moment he was standing there, and the next he was lying at the bottom of the stairs, staring up at the clouded sky in a daze. It was a considerably blurry sky. Where had his glasses gone? They were supposed to keep things from being blurry.
There was quiet laughter. Yuri groaned, pushing himself up and fingering the throbbing area where the back of his skull had met concrete with a grimace. His fingers came away wet with blood.
The laughing continued. Yuri looked to the top of the stairs, wincing again when he spotted the blurry figures of some of his particularly harsh bullies. Realising that almost everyone else had stopped to stare at him, Yuri ducked his head, heat rising to his cheeks. Spotting what he hoped were his glasses, Yuri reached out, half blind- a foot came out of nowhere and kicked them away. The laughing got louder. The uncomfortable heat crawled further up his neck.
“Hey! What do you think you’re doing?!”
Yuri’s head snapped around, somewhat useless eyes widening as his heart sank to his stomach. A blurry figure stood a few feet away, distinguishable from all the other blurs from the way they were inching away from them. But he didn’t need to see them to recognise their voice.
Jesse. Well, one of the Jesse’s. They must have seen what had happened from the car.
If Yuri had thought everything about him was embarrassing before, it was nothing compared to how he felt now.
Jesse marched forward, bending down to help Yuri to his feet. The laughing had stopped, but he had much preferred it when compared to Jesse seeing him get shoved down a set of stairs. They turned to him, close enough that Yuri could see the frown on their brow.
“Are you okay?”
Too mortified to speak, Yuri nodded. Jesse’s frown deepened, but they didn’t push, instead turning their attention to the teens still standing at the top of the stairs.
“What the hell is wrong with you?”
“It was an accident,” one muttered, a tad weakly. Yuri could practically hear the sneer on Jesse’s face.
“Didn’t look like an accident,” they said; so they had been watching. Fantastic. “In fact, looked pretty damn deliberate to me.”
They didn’t answer. After a moment, Jesse scoffed, before bending down to scoop up what Yuri assumed were his glasses. The actor shot the teens one last glare, before wrapping their arm around Yuri’s shoulders and beginning to guide him away.
“C’mon, Radar,” they muttered, handing him his glasses. Yuri took them in silent thanks and slipped them back onto his face.
Neither he nor Jesse said anything as they slipped into the car, or as Jesse pulled out of the lot and onto the road. Yuri kept his eyes glued to his knees, unwilling to look at the older actor. The back of his head continued to throb.
After a few moments of tense silence, the boy swallowed, finally dragging his fingers up to prod carefully at the back of his hair. It was still wet and sticky, and that blood was going to be hard to get out of his hair if it dried in, and just ow. Why did they have to do that? Why did it have to be then? Why couldn’t they have done it when Jesse wasn’t looking?
Angry, embarrassed tears pricked at the corners of his eyes. He blinked hastily, unwilling to cry in front of his hero. He’d already been shoved down a flight of stairs in front of them. He didn’t need them to see him cry about it too.
“Radar?”
He jumped, hand jerking from where it had still been prodding at the back of his head. Jesse frowned at him, still keeping one eye on the road.
“You okay, pal?” Jesse’s eyes trailed over to his hand, widening as they came to his blood coated fingers, “Is that from your head?”
Yuri swallowed. He wanted to wipe his hand on something, but he’d rather not get blood on his clothes and he wasn’t about to wipe that, of all things, all over his co-worker's car. “Um, ye- yeah.”
Jesse frowned, turning their eyes back to the road as they reached a round-a-bout, “We’ll get you patched up when we get to the studio.”
The boy nodded. With the amount of action that takes place in Story Mode, there was a lot of stunt stuff and heavy equipment with the potential to horribly injure someone. So medical supplies were often kept handy.
They shifted into silence. After a moment of hesitation, Jesse broke it.
“Does this happen often?”
“Does what happen often?”
“Radar.”
Yuri sighed; it had been a weak attempt anyway, “Yeah. But- But it’s fine, I’m used to it by now.”
Jesse stared at him. Of course, they were only able to do so for a moment before they had to snap their attention back to the road, unless they wanted to crash.
“What do you mean you’re used to it?”
Yuri shrugged, “It’s been going on for years. I told my mum and the school, but they weren’t able to really stop it. So I just stopped telling them. I think they’re under the impression that it’s stopped.”
Jesse was silent. They didn’t really seem sure what to say. Finally, they grunted.
“I don’t understand people,” they admitted, “What do they gain from hurting you?”
“I dunno,” Yuri admitted quietly, “Maybe it’s their way of desperately trying to find something they can actually control.”
Jesse huffed, “Maybe. Either that or they’re just jerks.”
Yuri’s lips twitched. The silence returned, but it was a bit more comfortable this time. He dug some tissues out of his bag (because allergy season was, unfortunately, upon them) to press again the back of his head. They were just turning into the studio’s parking lot when Jesse spoke again.
“The other Jesse’s are hearing about this, just so you know.”
“What? Wait, no, I don’t think that’s-”
“Sorry, buddy. Jesse’s tell each other everything.”
Yuri groaned. But he couldn’t have helped the little smile that twitched onto his lips even if he’d tried.

My Version of FT’s World
Alright this might seem like an odd post, but over the course of my rewrite I’ve introduced a lot of new places and concepts in the world of FT and I thought I would make a full list
Ishgar: The continent where the series of FT takes place. It as a whole is most know is the Magic Council system, which in full you can read here, but to know the basics it was made by 10 countries to make order in the magic world. These 10 nations were: Fiore, Minstrel, Caelum, Midi, Enca, Stella, Seven, Iceberg, Sin, and Bellum.  It has a total of 14 countries: Fiore, Caelum, Minstrel, Midi, Enca, Stella, Sin, Pergrande, Joya, Seven, Bosco, Iceberg, Bellum, and Desierto.
Fiore: A country in Ishgar and where most of the series starts. Its ruler is Toma Fiore who’s family has ruled for almost 300 years. The first king was Aspar Fiore and was given the Eclipse Gate by a band of Celestial Spirit mage immigrants from the western continent Alakitasia. The Gate has been considered the Fiore family treasure. One of the most well known events in Fiore is the Grand Magic Games, a tournament held to prove who’s the best guild in all of Fiore and unify them in the spirit of competition. Many come from all over Ishgar to watch these games.
Crocus
The massive capital city of the Fiore Kingdom. It was the first settlement of the kingdom after the Fiore family had acquired the land and would become known as “The Flower Blooming Capital” because of the vast array of flowers that adorn the streets and gardens of the city. The capital is also the location of Mercurius, a large castle where the Fiore family lives and is overlooked by the captain of the guard, Arcadios. In the lower levels of Mercurius lies the Eclipse Gate, which has had been targeted by thieves such as the treasure hunting guild NEO Sylph Labyrinth and the Alvarez black ops member Jacob Lessio.
Thanks to the size of Crocus there are many facilities that the city holds, such as it’s numerous inns like the Honey Bone Inn and Moon View Inn where Fairy Tail and Sabertooth had stayed at during the Grand Magic Games. The city is also home to the theme park, Ryuzetsu Land, an extremely well-known and popular summer vacation resort. Restaurants and places like Bar Sun also make for an active downtown scene in the city. However, one of the most famous landmarks of Crocus is Domus Flau, the arena where the Grand Magic Games are held
Magnolia
A moderately large town in the Fiore kingdom. It was founded early on in Fiore’s history, beginning as a town which was a perfect position for trade. It first became famous for being the home of Kardia Cathedral, made by Saint Mikardia. The Cathedral is considered one of the three great churches in the entire kingdom. But the town was taken over in the late x680s by a dark guild known as Blue Skull. The guild was defeated thanks to four wizards: Mavis Vermilion, Precht Gaeblog, Warrod Sequen, and Yuri Dreyar. These four mages would go on to make the guild, Fairy Tail.
Fairy Tail has been a well known guild in the kingdom of Fiore and has been a sense of pride for the town of Magnolia, with Fairy Tail’s guildhall sitting in the center of the town like a crown jewel. The guild of Fairy Tail has been portrayed as having a good public relation with the Magnolia townspeople, with Fairy Tail’s Fantasia festival being the height of it. The Fantasia festival is a celebration hosted by Fairy Tail in which they give back to their community and give a display of magic to their town. Fairy Tail however, for a time fell from grace and had lost a lot of the recognition they had once held. In that time another guild, Twilight Ogre, became active. Twilight Ogre did not possess the same relationship with the town of Magnolia as Fairy Tail had, as well as Magnolia not viewing them with as high of a recognition as they used to with Fairy Tail. However, Twilight Ogre for a time was the only guild in Magnolia after the events of Tartaros had led to Fairy Tail disbanding for a year until their return.
Magnolia is home to many attractions from magic stores, toy stores, bakeries, and book stores like Book Land. Thanks to the size of Magnolia it has can contain Magnolia Station, a train station located on eastern part of town. Also on the eastern side of town is the East Forest, which is the home of Natsu, Happy, Porylusica, and for a time the second Fairy Tail Guildhall. It also has the South Gate Park for townspeople who wanna get away for the urban area.
The town has been turned into a battlefield twice: with the first time being Laxus and his Thunder God Tribe take control of it during Fantasia, and the second being Tartaros attacking the town.
Hargeon
Hargeon is a port town in the southern part of Fiore. It has a beautiful marina and is highly prosperous thanks to its fish trade. However, the town is ore focused of fishing than magic, with the only magic shop in the town being Proper Grocer. The town also has many restaurants like Hargeon Diner, where Natsu and Lucy had gotten to know each other, and 8-Island, a restaurant made by former seated council member, Yajima.
The town has been subject to attack by demons, such as when Tempester invaded 8-Island in search of Yajima or the attack on Hargeon led by Bradman and a fleet of demons.
Rosa
Rosa is a small town up north and is famously the hometown of the Blue Pegasus guild. It’s a very beautiful town with quaint charm.
Hydrangea Village
Hydrangea Village is a small village near Rosa and was established 400 years ago. The village at that time prayed to the Yakuma and were gifted with a stone blessed by the Yakuma. The stone would go on to be the village’s treasure and the people of Hydrangea would honor the gift by holding a festival in its honor. The festival quickly became famous for having vendors from all over meet and sell stuff at this festival.
The current village leader is Mariah and she is in charge of overseeing the blessed stone in the House of  Hydrangea, a temple made to hold the stone. One festival almost led to the stone being stolen by Avatar mage, Erigor, but was stopped by Blue Pegasus mage, Laxus Dreyar.
Balsam Village
This spa town is very flashy and considered a perfect tourist spot. It was where Loke had saved Lucy from a few dark mages
Freesia
Not much is known about Freesia aside from the town is the home of one the three great churches in all of Fiore. As well as Natsu had apprehended a group of bandits in this town.
Shirotsume
A very small town at the foot of a mountain range. This town wwas under the thumb of corrupt politician, Everlue. After Everlue’s fall the town has made a very noticeable effort to try and reform.
Northwest of the town is the Ghoul Spirit dark guild.
Onibus
This town is best known for its theater, with mages performing in several plays. It it’s a large urban town with many shops and stores. The biggest event that has happened in Onibus aside from its play was a clash between Fairy Tail’s Juvia Lockster and dark mage Goorgocchi Epa in the year x791.
Oshibana
This town is famously known for being the hometown of the Eisenwald guild, though the guild of Eisenwald was located in the forest just outside Oshibana. Their home guild was however disgraced and stripped of legality after it came to light the guild was accepting assassination jobs. Oshibana Station was held hostage in x784 and was defeated by team Natsu with all members of Eisenwald being arrested except Erigor.
Clover
A small town known for being the location where the guild master’s of Fiore gather to discuss inside the Fiore Guild Meeting Hall. It was targeted by Eisenwald in x784, but was saved by Fairy Tail.
Lupinus
This town is not visited and little is known other than it is the home of one of the three greatest churches in Fiore.
Oak Town
This castle town is ancient and is home to the Phantom Lord guild. The Phantom Lord guild was made 100 years ago by former Blue Skull guild master, Geoffrey Porla. Even more north is the main guild headquarters of Phantom Lord that oversees activity of all their members and can transform into a “mecha-phantom”.
Tuly Village
This village is only a few miles from Crocus and is be known for the Tuly Clock Tower, an ancient historic clock tower that has been damaged once by Natsu. Tuly is a not all that urban of a town and is home to many facilities such as the Kotoko Inn, where Natsu and Lucy stayed while in Tuly. It also is the current home for former Phantom Lord Element 4 member, Totomaru and his school The Great Conflagration Fire Magic School, which had previously been in Magnolia, but moved after the attack by Tartaros.
Thistle
Thistle is a small run down looking town that’s only a few miles away from Tuly. It’s very impoverished and murky with most of the residents being very easy to anger. The village does have some facilities like apartments that Macao had lived at during the disbandment of Fairy Tail, and Bar Thistle, the local tavern.
This was also the hometown for Abyss Horn, a dark guild that ruled over the town led by master Cranch. This guild was an ally of Avatar. However they were defeated and arrested in x792 by Natsu, Lucy, and Macao.
Myosotis
This city is large and regal, it also is the second largest city within the kingdom of Fiore. The city is home of the guild Sabertooth, established in x785. The city is awe of the Sabertooth guild with their large guildhall in the center of the city. After the x791 Grand Magic Games and the new Sabertooth guild master, Sting taking control, the guild became more publicly friendly, such as giving full access to the Sabertooth Indoor Pool.
The city is large enough to have many attractions like the Bar Scorpion, for food and drink, the Grand Myosotis Library that contains the largest collection of books in the kingdom, and Myosotis Station. On the edge of town was four FACE bombs, but in x791 they were destroyed. Also, surrounding the city is a forest that was once the home of Sting and Lector.
Acalypha
This town is within walking distance of Magnolia and is known for being a merchant center. Its greatest attraction is the merchant guild Love & Lucky, this guild is also where Jude and Layla Heartfilia had worked until Jude decided to start his own buisness and a daughter on the way. The former businessman returned to Love & Lucky after the loss of his company and spent his remaining days working there.
The Love & Lucky guild was attacked by Naked Mummy mages, but were defeated by Lucy Heartfilia.
Amefurashi Village
Amefurashi is a village near the edge of Fiore and for a time was known as the “Village of Rain” when Juvia Lockster had moved there and drowned in her sorrows there. Juvia eventually left after being told that guild was getting back together.
Margaret
Margaret is a moderately large town in the the southern part of Fiore and is founded around a river, thus making a huge emphasis on boat  transportation. It is famous for being the hometown of Lamia Scale however, Lamia Scale is not the only guild in Margaret. The other guild in Margaret is Orochi’s Fin which was established in Margaret in x712, the same year as Lamia Scale. However, the Lamia Scale guild was the only one that prospered over time, becoming more and more renowned, with them eventually producing a wizard saint, Jura Neekis.
The Orochi’s Fin guild fell into obscurity, but continued on until x792 when they had added former Grimoire Heart mage, Bluenote Stinger, to their ranks and had aligned themselves with Avatar. Orochi’s Fin attacked Lamia Scale during their Thanksgiving Festival, but had lost the battle and lost their legal status. Many of their mages were ready to be rounded up, but all members of Orochi’s Fin was murdered by Jerome of Avatar.
Speaking of the Lamia Scale Thanks Giving Festival, it is similar to Magnolia’s Fantasia where mages all perform and build trust in their town. The Lamia Scale guild has its own residency for its members, called Lamia Estate. The town has such facilities as Viper Inn for tourists and Margaret Boat Rental, which gives towns people ships to use on the waterway.
Rosemary Village
This village existed until the late x770s when the mebers of a Zeref worshipping cult came an burned it down and enslaved multiple children. The village did possess an orphanage until it was burned down and was the home to Erza, Kagura, and Simon.
Malba
This city is big and has a very dense population. Not much about the city is known except that it is near the Mikage Forest, a dense forest and location of Avatar’s main branch. The city was targeted by Avatar due to its population and were going to be sacrificed to Ikusa-Tsunagi
Akane Beach
This beach is an incredibly popular attraction in Fiore. It has many hotels, theme parks, and casino’s to enjoy. It was in Akane that Erza Scarlet was kidnapped and taken back to the Tower of Heaven.
Fern
This small rural town has not much going for it other than a few farms and hotel known as Hotel Fern. It was here that Wally, Sho, and Millianna stayed until their decision to join Mermaid Heel.
Lilac
This town is decently sized, with several quaint facilities and the Lilac Station. It is most known for being the home of Mermaid Heel a guild made in x767. It wasn’t heavily publicized, but it grew over the years and eventually became renowned, particularly for its all female membership. It remanded like that until Sho and Wally joined Mermaid Heel.
Galuna Island
This island is part of Fiore and is entirely inhabited by demons. The tribe is led by Moka and the island is famous for the glow casted by the moon. It’s only main residency is the island’s village and their ancient Forbidden Temple, which was used by Lyon and housed the demon Deiora.
Tenrou Island
Once it’s own small Island city, it had a variety facilities such as the Sirius Star School where Zera attended and the famous Tenrou Temple that housed the Tenrou Jade. Tenrou was famous for its strong guild Red Lizard, but the guild and the population was wiped out by Blue Skull.
Overtime wildlife grew in, with many flora and fauna appearing. The island was bought by Mavis and the founders of FT. The island has since been the loction for the S-Class promotion trials in Fairy Tail. But most importantly is the fact the Lumen Histoire was buried on this island until x784.
Mt. Hakobe
This large mountain is in central Fiore and is famous for being the home of many vulcan. The icy weather lasts all-year-round. This Mountain was where Natsu and Lucy saved Macao Conbolt.
Mt. Zonia
This mountain is the largest in Fiore and is its northern most mountain. This mountain has been the home of Acnologia over the centuries.
Magic Council Fiore Branch Building
This is the Magic Council’s Fiore headquarters. This is where the mages of Fiore are mainly directed, with filing work, mage applications, job requests etc. all sent here to be legalized. The head of this branch is the kingdom’s magic representative and that has changed hands numerous times over the series. Siegrain was the Fiore magic representative until he was recognized by the council and became and seated member and wizard saint. The position went to Dalton who oversaw everything until Arcadios was made the magic representative.
The has an outlandish appearance to it. Topping the lower structure is a series of smaller structures suspended in the air at various heights, which compose the rest of the headquarters. The lower structure resembling a bowl with ten slightly curved panels meters above it. The panels' sides facing outwards are divided into nine square sections. The inner, curved sides are bare. The final castle-like structure is shown floating above the panels, in correspondence to the center of the capsized dome: sitting on a round platform. Here was where the trial of Erza Scarlet was held until it was interrupted by Natsu.
Cowbane Valley
This very lush and dense forest is crawling with various obstacle and wildlife. This was famously the place where Natsu and Gajeel trained for the Grand Magic Games.
Monster Isle
This small island was discovered by Gildarts and crawls with numerous beasts and has acted as his training ground. Elfman Strauss has used this as a place to get new animal souls as well as train for the GMG.
Peony
This small town was the home of Evergreen and was many of its inhabitants lived in fear of her Stone Eyes
Nuzuna
Not much is known about this town other than it was the home of the Justine family, until their mansion was unintentionally destroyed by a young Freed Justine.
Heartfilia Konzern
This large estate belonged to the Heartfilia family, but was eventually bought out from under them.
The Worth Woodsea: A massive forest that divides the countries of Fiore and Seven. When the Worth Woodsea was young, the Nirvit people from the country of Seven sealed Nirvana in the Worth Woodsea, they then made a small village in the Worth Woodsea to watch over the sealed Nirvana. Eventually many of the villagers dies off and the Worth Woodsea grew to the point the exact location of Nirvana had been lost.
Eventually the dark guild, Oracion Seis had made their way into the Worth Woodsea and eventually found the old Nirvit village. In x784, the Worth Woodsea became the battle ground between the united alliance and the Oracion Seis. Cobra eventually finds Nirvana and releases it.
Sun Village: This village rests on the border of countries Bosco and Fiore. It was established by Atlas Flame as a home for the giants, creatures who originally were hunted by humans for their meat. Atlas Flame had been inspired by Igneel to find a bigger purpose and he chose to become the guardians of the hunted giant race. The village originally was located in a desert area, but thanks to Warrod Sequen, the village has lush greenery around it.
Flare Corona is originally from this village, but left after becoming a social outcast and eventually joined Raven Tail. In x791, the village was frozen by Silver Fullbuster, but was unfrozen by Gray Fullbuster. However, due to his age and damage suffered over being frozen, Atlas Flame died. Flare also had officially re-joined her village. The inhabitants of Sun Village assisted in the war against Tartaros by helping destroy FACE bombs.
Seven: This Ishgar country is the home country of the Nirvit. Originally there was a city in this country called Nirvana, but the ruler of this city, Roubaul, converted it into a powerful super magic item called Nirvana. The magic of Nirvana can remove the “darkness” of someone, but it eventually became unstable and Roubaul didn’t balance it out by sacrificing people’s “light”. Nirvana was then piloted to Worth Woodsea and sealed. Roubaul returned to Seven and rebuilt the country and made a new city.
Roubaul is the king of Seven and had lived for centuries because the seal he used on Nirvana would keep him alive as long as Nirvana existed. He took in Wendy Marvell, when Mystogan had begged for her to be taken care of and Wendy was watched over by Roubaul. Roubaul died when the Nirvana was destroyed, but said he was happy knowing his sin was gone.
Nebura
The capital city and only city we see of Seven. It’s very small and suburban, with the only exception being the Royal palace that looks out over the Worth Woodsea. It also is the home of the only guild in Seven, Cait Shelter.
Bosco: The country has a small mage population and is mainly known for being attacked by Jackal in search of Michello. The people of Bosco are very passive and uncaring with the king of Bosco, Woodrow Bosco, caring more on their lumber production and export than magic. The country is best known for its trees that reach high into sky.
Pine
This is the only town seen in the series and is the hometown of former seated council member Michello and his granddaughter Michella. The town is small and has few shops. The most known featrures of Pine is that it is right next to a small lake called Donguri and at the edge of town is Mitchello’s mansion.
Pine became the battle ground for Fairy Tail mages, Lucy and Wendy vs Tartaros mage, Jackal.
Magic Council Bosco Branch Building
While not seen, Jackal does mention that he destroyed thinking that Mitchello might be there
Stella: This country is very popular for its unique Stellium crystals that absorb starlight, so that even in the daytime, there’s a glimmering display of stars. The country is controlled by Queen Sonya Stella. She cares much for the position of magic and often congratulates Toma Fiore on the success of the GMG. The kingdom did participate in the battle against Tartaros.
Altair
This is the capital city of Stella and where all the Stellium  can be found. It is rather large with the whole city cut off from the rest of the kingdom thanks to a Moat around it. The moat is wide enough to fit a FACE bomb in it. The royal palace, Nova, is where Queen Sonya lives. It also holds many knights of Stella, both normal and magical with it being lead by Doll.
Pleiades
This small town is at the foot of one of Stella’s rocky mountains. This place is mostly open space with few facilities like grocery stores and Koshi Inn. This town is the hometown of the Harpy Wing guild, who we only got a mention of in Tartaros when Sonya was ordering forces to destroy the FACE. There was a FACE bomb located in Pleiades, but after the war with Tartaros, it was destroyed. The Harpy Wing guild is most known for using these lacrima powered hoverboards, to zip around quick. They even took up a job and are not only clearing away FACE bomb rubble, but also helping construct a magic school that was given funding by queen Sonya.
Polaris Forest
The forest is on the edge of Stella and is most known for being where Crawford Seam lived after leaving from his position as chairman of the magic council. This is also where Crawford had drugged Erza.
Iceberg: The coldest country and the most northern in Ishgar. It suffers from “eternal winter”, the farther north you go the colder it gets. It is ruled by Wada Iceberg, a cold and pragmatic man. While he isn’t all that much developed he knows that a lot of Iceberg is very unruly thanks to its climate and always asks for more backup from mages.
Aba
Aba city is a large city near the eastern need of Iceberg, not much about the city is known other than both Ur and Lyon come from this city. The only other thing of note is that the city of Aba lies at the base of Aba Mountains, a long mountain range that divides Iceberg and Pergrande. Aba Mountains is also where Ur trained
Roka
Gray’s birthplace. This town was destroyed by Deliora and has never been rebuilt since, mainly to serve as a memorial to those who had died. Many of those who died were revived by Keyes.
Brago
One of the most northern cities, it was destroyed by Deliora. While never rebuilt, many of the survivors had migrated south and had joined Lyon to revive and kill Deliora.
Mone
A moderately sized town that is near the southern end of Iceberg. It’s considerably warmer than most the Iceberg and is where Gray and Lyon trained and lived with Ur.
Hogg’s Home
While former seated member, Hogg lived in Iceberg, he never lived in any town, but rather a lodge built just for him in the middle of Iceberg. However, this home is not to far from the remains of Roka.
Joya: This country is protected by many mountains around its boarders and is famous for all of its mines. The is no shortage of gem that is found in Joya and has given it the title “Crown Jewel Country”. The King of Joya is Mondo Joya, who doesn’t care at all for many of his mages. He doesn’t treat them like second class citizens, he just doesn’t care. His focus is on his jewel export and not magic. However after the near destruction of his kingdom at the hands of Tartaros he began more reforms to boost mage activity in his country.
Diamante
This capital city is large and expensive. With many towering buildings, the biggest is Joya’s palace, Venus, which is coated in many large diamonds. They city had suffered much damage from a Macro controlled Elfman, but was saved thanks to Cana and Mira. Diamante is also the where Bar Ivory is located, this bar being where Mirajane and Elfman worked during Fairy Tail’s disbandment.
Also former seated council Yuri lived here, but he was killed by Sayla.
Pearl Town
This small town is the birth place of Yukino and Sorano, but was visited by Brain when he was looking for prayers. The town is small, quiet, and contains many domestic homes.
Crystal Falls
This forest area is located near the eastern end of Joya in a deep, but lush forest. This is where Elfman and Mira trained during Fairy Tail’s disbandment and is where Natsu and Elfman fought.
Minstrel: The second largest country in Ishgar and known as the “Country of Order” because is is the home of the Magic Council. It is ruled by Octavius Minstrel, but he even admits that most people think of him a second in comparison to the council. Minstrel has an odd geography, with many canyons in the country and the southern half becoming more and more rocky and less settled the father south you go. But the northern half just gets more and more urbanized and regal as you go north, with at the very north being the home of the magic council. The country of Minstrel survived being invaded by Tartaros however, it was difficult to find the FACE bombs due to the terrain.
Era
The most important place in the magic world is Era, home of the magic council headquarters. The place is regal and stretches many acres and is almost a nation onto itself. Near the magic council headquarters is Baroque, the facility for training and housing most Rune Knights. Baroque is massive, almost the size of a small city.
Black Vox
This is the mage prison used by the magic council where all dark mages are sent. It is located in a canyon, but the exact location is unknown, for the only way to access it and knowledge of it’s location is in the hands of seated council members, members of the jail force, and the Rune Knight general/division commanders.
The main structure of the prison is a gargantuan cube, completely black and opaque. It hovers quite some distance off the ground and is tilted a bit about its axis such that it isn't completely parallel to the ground. Although completely solid, a square opening can be created on its surface to allow passage. The inside of it is a simple open space with numerous black cubes floating around. Inside these smaller cubes are all the inmates, while the cells float free of gravity, those inside don’t seem to feel the effect.
The only ones to be released were the Oracion Seis, thanks to council man Yajima. The mage Erigor was able to escape, taking advantage of a cell transfer when he was deemed not worthy of being there. Its warden is Torch Endeavor and its head jailer is Grog Foto.
Melodia
This harbor town is the home of former seated councilwoman, Belno. The town is small, but has a beautiful view of the ocean and a busy dock area. Belno lived here until Torafuzar attacked and killed her after Gajeel failed to stop him.
Decrescendo Canyon
A large canyon in Minstrel that has numerous FACE bombs in it. It was filled with Torafuzar’s black water and was the location of his and Gajeel’s fight.
Tremolo Plains
A large open space of dry land near Decrescendo Canyon where Saberooth did battle with Tartaros. With the most significant battle being Sting vs Minerva.
Midi: This small country is not explored all that much. Its ruler is king Varnez Midi. This country has a strange magical environment, where everything floats in the air with stuff like floating islands and floating rivers. It alsoas many types of bird creatures. This is confirmed to be the country where Grimoire Heart mage, Zancrow and former rune knight general/chairman of the magic council, Gran Doma came from. At one time Hades had visited this country and discovered Fire God Slaying Magic
Halad
The only known place in Midi, Halad is a small town which has many rocky islands floating in midair. There isn’t any forestation, but a lot of fishish done at the river that cuts through town. There are miniature islands floating around the city with rocky mountains on them. There was a guild in this town, Herculean Strength, which used to be perched on its own separate little island not to far from the town. The guild was destroyed by a young Zancrow after they had refused to let him join and Zancrow later acquired Fire God Slaying Magic, testing it on all of the members.
Bureau of Magical Development: This former Magic Council facility was built on the border of Minstrel and Desierto. It was a tall building that looked similar to a futuristic tower of babel. It was controlled by Brain and was where he ran experiments on many subjects, such as Ultear and God Serena. The most known development that came from the Bureau is dragon slaying lacrima, which was discovered in the ruins of Dragnof. Eventually, the Bureau was destroyed by Ultear and the Magic Council had came to the decision that due to the reports of unethical experiments, they decided to not rebuild the Bureau. Brain revolted and the only items saved from the Bureau was Klodoa and Poison Dragon lacrima.
Desierto: An all desert country, Desierto is known for its heat and sand. Its ruler is king Sanpro Desierto and he has a daughter, princess Lead Desierto. Desierto has many mages, but due to its geography a lot of guilds are spread out, so there’s almost no guild interaction. In those wide spaces there are many FACE bombs scattered.
Sunapolis
This large city is the capital of Desierto, while it might not have many large building it has many shops, one of which was Arcana Fortune, a fortune-telling shop owned by Cana Alberona when Fairy Tail was disbanded. Its most well known for the massive mountain in the center of the city. The mountain is the source of all water in Sunapolis, with many strong waterfalls coming from the top of it. At the base of the mountain, these falls flow into rivers that uniquely divide the city, though there are several bridges designed to help people cross.
The mountain also has a elegant white staircase that goes up the face of the mountain from base to summit. That the top of the mountain is flat land and a calm serene lake and at its center is the royal palace, Abyad. Also built into the mountain is the Sandstone Prison, considered one of the worse places to be locked away in, mainly because how it’s positioned. The prison is built in the mountain, so the cells are behind the waterfalls and the prisoners are tormented with the sound of the rushing falls and all cell windows are just far enough from the falls to not get a drop of water.
Dune
This harbor town is best known for the amount of vendors in it. It isn’t too far from Sunapolis and also used to be home to an Avatar guild branch until is was destroyed by Cobra in x792.
Dried Oasis
This area of Desierto is near the western boarder and is considered inhospitable due to the intensity of the sun, the lack of water, and just how far and wide the area is. It is also home to snake creatures that can grow massive as well as grow wings. There are also some groups of professional bandits who pick off anyone stupid enough to enter the Dried Oasis.
It did possess a FACE bomb in it and was used by people as a halfway marker. This area was also where a fleeing Brain had wound up after his revolt. He had run into a young Erik who was left in the desert and managed to survive after becoming friends with one of the snake creatures.
Bellum: This a country built on the principles of might makes right. However, they do have a belief in order, that with strong authority being the key to peace. Many of Bellum’s citizens can fight like a trained soldier and all of them assisted in the destruction of FACE. The ruler of the country is King Alexander Bellum, a heavily scared man, who believes that all people need to learn how to fight in order to survive. The country also produced wizard saint and god of Ishgar, Wolfheim.
Labrys
This small town is at the edge of the Valley of Lost Warriors. It has a very Greco-Roman appearance to it and is often a rest stop for anyone who makes it through the valley.
Aegis
This city follows the greco-roman theme of the country however, the only real part of it seen is the battle arena, where Hades took a young Azuma to show the power of his Great Tree Arc.
Valley of Lost Warriors
This valley is near the southwestern end of the country and must be crossed to enter the country if you’re entering from Desierto. The valley has a magic anomaly that cause the sky to be constantly thundering, and has a mental effect of those passing through it. With the travelers developing high levels of adrenaline and can see flashes of battles and wars that they’ve been in the stormy sky. When Natsu passed through the Valley he could see flashes of his fight with Mard Geer.
Sin: Not much is known about Sin other than its Queen is Lilitha Sin and is the home of current magic council chairman and god of Ishgar, Draculos Hyberion. Sin is apparently strong as they have never had to deal with an invasion by Pergrande during Faust’s rule.
Kiris
The only named city in Sin and is the home city of Hyberion. The only structure seen is a dark gothic castle that is Hyberion’s home.
Enca: Considered a very minimalistic, this country is ruled by King Rillin Enca, a slim and sickly looking man. The people of Enca have very little and often believe in only what’s necessary, and will often get rid of “dead weight”. The kingdom is a distinct archipelago made of three islands, with only two inhabited by humans, the other by monsters.
Devil’s Cove
This is an island of lush forest and fruit, but it is most know for having many types of monsters condensed on this island. It is a common practice for family’s that can’t afford to care for more children will leave one on Devil’s cove to be killed by the monsters. Two children that survived this island were Racer and Azuma.
These monsters are popular for trade as Enca makes them an export to Fiore so these monsters can be used in the Grand Magic Games Pandemonium event.
Pergrande: This is the largest country in Fiore and possibly the most imposing. The Pergrande family has had a long historic reign with all members of royal blood having tattoos on their faces. Faust Pergrande was dethroned by Fairy Tail and the revolutionary army, then replaced with current king, Dan Straight. The country is most known for its countless lacrima mines and is the countries main export, with the kingdom running on Lacrima for power and the military integrating it into their armor and weapons.
The lacrima mines are deep, but since Faust’s reign more and more people were forced to go work in these mines. The Pergrande kingdom had conquered the Extalia kingdom and the exceeds were only able to live in comfort by serving as magic detectors for when the magic in the lacrima got low. The kingdom was very classist, with impoverishment growing the farther and farther you get from the royal capital. The army is very loyal to their king and are in love with the perks of serving the military. Many of the people of Pergrande are not able to use high forms of caster magic, so most of the magic used is holder magic. Anyone with high levels of magic were usually detained by the government and drained of their excess magic.
The new kingdom ruled by Dan Straight has tried to make reforms, such as making jobs for the impoverished, paying people to now work in mines, start making vehicles like airships the main export, and start establishing a legal guild system.
Louen
This town is closer to the capital, but it is considered a commoner town. The houses of the town are cylindrical and made of bricks. Some of the walls of the houses are beginning to crumble, there is also very few few shops, with the only known shop, Louen Grocer, serving as an underground market providing weapons to the revolutionary army. The town also has a train station.
Sycca
This small village in one of the more forsaken parts of Pergrande, with many villagers taken to work in nearby mines. The village mainly consists of dilapidated, single story, rectangular buildings.
Hondrow

Edolas
The royal city of Pergrande that resembles an amusement park than a regular city. Everywhere, there are varieties of magic powered by Lacrima. Even mundane things such as plaques with the names of streets, or lights are powered by magic. It is built on a circular plane, with the royal palace, Traia, located in the center, decorated with an emblem of the country, with its impressive main tower reaching into the heavens.
The palace also contains a prison where magic can be drained, as well as a hanger for multiple airships. The town is powered by a massive central lacrima that is located just a few miles west of the city border.
Revolutionary Headquarters
This headquarters used to be run by Dan Straight and was used as the base of the revolutionary army. It’s located underground with numerous roots going across the ceiling. Those roots are connected to a tree in the center of the headquarters. This tree has absorbed magic from the countless lacrima mining and it resulted in the tree becoming a form of transportation magic, allowing all members to use the roots to go wherever there is a tree in Pergrande.
St. Forge
This city is made entirely of blacksmiths, with this city also being where most weapons and vehicles in Pergrande are produced. The city has many rounded buildings serving as homes and workshops. The weather conditions are fierce, with scorching heat everyday as well as black ash and soot produced by the Central Smithy.
The central smithy is a large complex that resembles as massive chimenea. inside is where all the intense welding and crafting takes place, with the heat source needed to supply this smithy being a semi active volcano known as Hephaestus‘ Fire. Erza Scarlet had lived in St. Forge for a time when the Fairy Tail guild was disbanded. She had used the Central Smithy to reforge her destroyed armor.
Magic Council Pergrande Branch Building
This is the Magic Council’s Pergrande headquarters. This is where the mages of Fiore are mainly directed, with filing work, mage applications, job requests etc. all sent here to be legalized. The magic representative who watched over this branch was Mystogan, until his return to Fairy Tail.
The building is very rectangular tower, with no curve on it whatsoever. The building has several segments that represent each story of the building, and they look like thin rectangles that jut out over the center body of the building. It also has many windows shaped like small square windows.
Caelum: It’s a tropical kingdom and archipelago that is well known for its beautiful blue sky. It’s ruled by king Reiji Caelum, older brother of former seated council member, Leiji. It has a strong military and is known for being heavily involved in national security.
Stratus Island
One of the islands of the archipelago, off the northwestern coast of the main Caelum island. It has a bridge connecting it to the main Caelum island. The village on Stratus is in two parts with one part resembling a lake town, with homes on docks that are connected to the second part of the village that’s on the land. The full look of the village is unknown as Tempester had flooded and destroyed the village.
Cirrus
The city is on the northwest coast of the main Caelum. It is not seen in the series, but in a report given to king Reiji, it was apparently destroyed by Tempester when he was searching for Leiji. The city also has been a guild called Gargoyle Tongue that tried to stop Tempester, but he defeated them all.
Cumulus
A large city on the northeaster coast of the main Caelum island. The city is large and very modern looking, catering to many tourists with facilities like Cafe Cumulus and Storm Speed Books. It has an outstanding marina that is much larger than Hargeon’s and has several fish market vendors.
This town is also heavily watched over by Caelum knights, with Natsu quickly being arrested after walking through town.
Nimbus
The capital of Caelum located only a train ride away from Cumulus. The capital has many impressive buildings as well as an abundance of palm trees. Overlooking the city is the royal palace, Zephyrus, and is the home of Reiji Caelum.
Overcast Desert
A small desert located in the southeastern part of Caelum. The desert is the housing location of Megaunit, a super survival bunker that was constructed to house any royals in the time of danger. The bunker goes deep into the earth with main facilities to accommodate those being housed there.
The overcast desert is where Natsu and Kagura defeated Tempester.
Magic Council Caelum Branch Building
This is the Magic Council’s Caelum headquarters. It is not shown in the series however, it is most likely in southern part of the main Caelum island. It was reported to have been destroyed by Tempester.
Turbulence
The titled “Pleasure Island”, while not seen it is mentioned by Reiji to be the perfect place to relax and have fun. Turbulence is located on the island Southwest of the main Caelum island.
Dragnof: A kingdom that existed 400 years ago in Ishgar and was famous as the land where humans and dragons lived in peace. The dragons acted of their own accord, but had a leader, the wise Sage Dragon, Belserion. The humans were ruled by queen Irene. The kingdom fell to Acnologia and a horde of western dragons, with Belserion dying.
Dahaka
The capital and only known city of Dragnof. It is large but has many small clumped together houses. It’s royal palace has a beautiful open courtyard right outside it and has a lot of space for humans and dragons to walk freely. It also has massive walls around its boarder.
Mujika: A kingdom that existed 400 years ago in Ishgar and is the native kingdom of Irene’s husband. The kingdom is never seen in full, except for its palace and jail.
Caracole Island: This is a kingdom independent of Ishgar and Alakitasia, but due to its location of being in between both continents, it is accessible to both. But Caracole Island is most known as a tourist spot. The country is ruled by king Blank.
Haparara Beach
The only town seen in Caracole and is beach town where many foreigners vacation. It has many vendors with the most notable being Star Mango Gelato
Trasero Island

Alakitasia: The Western Continent and is unified under the banner of the Alvarez Empire
Belserion: A small country that is the home to Alvarez’s empress Irene Belserion. The is mainly covered in in regalbuildings with a small water way leading from the southwestern boarder to the capital city.
Vistarion
This is capital city the capital city of the empire. It consists of many tall, skyscraper-like castles surrounding the exterior. Within the city, there two to three story buildings and row homes that barricade the town's streets, along with bridges that connect from one side to another and balconies for viewing. There is a gargantuan castle in the center of the capital with many towers and sections. It towered over the entire city. There is a garden within the castle's grounds filled with numerous plants in a floral scenery. It also contains a prison inside the castle.
Around the exterior of the city is a massively tall fortress known as Niflheim. The fortress is controlled by Invel and has a powerful communication lacrima that allows Invel to get, not only uninterrupted communication with forces all over the country, but also a full view of any battle field an army may be at.
Trinia
This city is located a few miles from Belserion and is very large. It contains many small residencies and shops, but its most known feature is its coliseum, Abyss. This coliseum is as large as Domus Flau and is where Natsu and God Serena did battle.
Rinania: This country stretches over the southeaster coastline of Alakitasia. It’s also where the majority of the Alvarez-Ishgar war took place.
Laspada
The hometown of the Ramal family. It is located in the northwestern area of Rinania and is close to the boarder. The town is made up of rough houses, made of stone, with circular holes for doors and windows reminiscent of the style of ancient houses in Cappadocia. The only building that doesn’t resemble the rest of the town is Ajeel’s tall, white, Arabic-style castle.
Yamult
This is the biggest port area in all of Alvarez and the signature feature of Rinania. Here many battleships or aerial ships, may be launched. It is mainly all dock and beaches, with the only buildings serving as point to check things coming and leaving the country.
Here, Fairy Tail did battle with the Ajeel squad and made an easy landing zone for the Rune Knights. However, the Black Carpet had arrived and engaged the Rune Knights, resulting in the majority of the forces fighting here. With Ishgar eventually pushing the Alvarez forces back
Enten Village: This village existed over 400 years ago and was where Natsu and Zeref were born. The Dragneel brother’s father was chief of the village. This village is located in Salzenya Canyon, with the village homes and residences were crafted into the side of the canyon. The village existed as place to be hidden away from dragons, but eventually they were discovered and burned apart by a group of fire dragons.
While most traces of the village have been burned away, the group of invading Fairy Tail mages had used Salzenya canyon river because it cut through both Belserion and Julia.
Morn: Not much is known about Morn other than it it the northernmost country of Alvarez and has an underground storage space, able to fit many Alvarez citizens
Julia: This nation is basic and is best known for housing 3 powerful cities inside it.
Timanshu
An industrial looking city with many robotic and mechanical parts all over the place. It has many “punk-ish looking”  buildings with tubes and pipeds going throughout them. The city was once the home of the Machina until fellow Machina, Wahl Icht, sided with Irene and killed many machina. SInce then, Wahl has had absolute oversight of this city. It is also worth mentioning that this city is the closest one to Salzenya Canyon.
Mildian
The city of time. It is under the oversight of DImaria Yesta the holder of Chronos. The city is very similar to a Greek city in design and is very religious. It has many magic facilities, most famous the Mildian Magic Academy. Dimaria did battle with Crime Sociere here and was defeated.
The city was established for the “people of time”, who for 400 years have worshiped the goddess of time, chronos, who protected them from dragons. Zeref Dragneel had attended the magic academy in his youth where he developed the R-System and Eclipse Gate.
Shiki
Once known as Shiki village, it was where Zeref had brought the recently transformed Irene, and under her guidance, turned the village into a fighting force. With its greatest warrior produced being August. Eventually the village evolved into Shiki City and is famous for the city that houses The Alvarez Magic Archive And Study Center. A gigantic spiral tower that contains every recorded magic in Alvarez
The city is under the control of August and has read every recorded magic inside the study center.
Star Village
Where Anna and the first ever 12 celestial spirit mages come from. The village is not scene in full, but inside the village is a large ziggurat-like structure.

Some movies have been in my life so long that I have no memory of when I first saw them, except to know that they’re my parents’ favorite movies, and by extension, some of my own: The Sound of Music, Giant, Vertigo, To Kill a Mockingbird, Lawrence of Arabia, The Bridge on the River Kwai. David Lean, the director of the latter two films, might be my parents’ favorite for the vastness of space he was able to capture in his lens, the intimacy of feeling, the way his characters often become trapped in situations of their own making.
Doctor Zhivago is the Lean film my parents return to most often, and the one that shatters me most thoroughly—a love story and a tragedy in equal measure, the elegantly lilting strings of a balalaika building upward and upward and upward until they are abruptly cut short. It makes me think of how my parents measure time: before the revolution, and after it.
*
Not the Russian Revolution, although that is the focus of Lean’s Doctor Zhivago, adapted from the novel by Boris Pasternak, but the Iranian Revolution—1978 through 1979. My parents weren’t living in Iran then; they had already gingerly stepped forward into their second lives in America. There had been a prospect of maybe going back to their homeland, to a place that they say feels different, looks different, is different from the United States; but that was no longer possible. There are places you can’t go back to, and questions you can’t ask, and people you can’t be anymore. Doctor Zhivago is about all of that, and watching the movie as many times as I have is mostly about trying to understand my parents’ lives, failing, and desperately trying over and over again. It’s about losing something, and unceasingly searching for it, and wondering if love is ever enough.
“Feelings, insights, affections—it’s suddenly trivial now,” says the Bolshevik commander Strelnikov (Tom Courtenay), a man who used a revolution and a war to reinvent himself, to the poet Dr. Yuri Zhivago (Omar Sharif, gorgeous), whose writings are publicly outlawed by the Soviet regime and secretly admired by the Russian people. But that interiority is all Yuri has in a society that is controlled, watched, and surveilled. It’s all my parents had, too.
*
To be a first-generation American is to grow up realizing there are questions your immigrant parents absolutely won’t answer, parts of themselves they will never share. I know the bare sketches of my parents’ lives before they came to the United States, but I also know—intrinsically, maybe—what not to push. Maybe it’s a cliché to say an elementary school family tree assignment was an unexpected difficulty, but it was.
There were grandparents I didn’t know who had died, and aunts and uncles and cousins I would never know because they lived in Iran and couldn’t come visit us, and we couldn’t go visit them. A veil hanging over all of it, like the chadors and hijabs the Islamic government began to force all women to wear outside of the home after the Revolution. Iran’s women are fierce—they serve in the Iranian Parliament, have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize and the Fields Medal, practice jiu-jitsu in secret and win Olympic medals for taekwondo—but this mandatory covering is only one of many means of government control, of the diminishing of personal choice.
Everything I wanted to know about what my parents had gone through, what informed their decisions, what shaped their lives, was like picking at the edges of a scab, a wound not fully healed. The time to ask those questions never seemed right. Nothing about the Iranian Revolution seemed to work out like people wanted—not for people like my parents, or people like their friends, or people like the professors I had while studying Persian literature and film in college. They wanted freedom from monarchy and ended up with restriction through religion.
This is a culture that prized art and poetry and beauty (and wine!) for centuries, but not much of that was respected in the same way anymore. Not after the power grabs of the Iranian Revolution went the hardliners’ way, and not after the Islamic government consolidated authority throughout the Iran-Iraq War of the 1980s, and not after increasingly fraught relationships with the rest of the world in the 1990s and 2000s. All this despite cries from inside the country, despite bloodshed in the streets.
Intellectuals disappeared, dissenters disappeared, writers and musicians and artists disappeared. My parents whispered their names. They hung their portraits on our library wall. And I rarely, possibly never, asked about them. Maybe I thought I couldn’t, or maybe I thought I shouldn’t. “Why dig deeper into my parents’ pain?” I rationalized then. “Why didn’t I care enough to ask?” I think now.
*
“We admire your brother very much,” says a dam worker to Lt. Gen. Yevgraf Zhivago (Alec Guinness) at the beginning of Doctor Zhivago, in the 1950s, when Yevgraf is searching for a woman he suspects is his half-brother’s lost daughter. “Everybody seems to—now,” Yevgraf says back in Guinness’s crisp, perfectly commanding voice, but not even he has a response to the man’s follow-up: “We couldn’t admire him when we weren’t allowed to read him.”
What you’re allowed to do and not allowed to do comes up often in Doctor Zhivago. Where you’re allowed to work, what you’re allowed to read, who you’re allowed to love. The story begins before World War I, in two different spheres of Russian life. First is the upper-class world of Yuri, a young man who was adopted as a child by a well-to-do old-money family and has since excelled at nearly everything he tries: graduating in the top three of his class from medical school, attracting national and international acclaim for his deeply felt poetry. And then there’s Lara (Julie Christie, resplendent): 17 years old, working class, determined to win a scholarship to university, the daughter of a seamstress catering to wealthy clients, preyed upon by the well-connected government official and despicably manipulative villain, Victor Komarovsky (Rod Steiger), who used to be a friend of her dead father’s.
Yuri has the empathy of an artist and the compassion of a healer. He sees his patients and is moved by their humanity, and when he meets Lara, he admires her resolve. It takes a certain kind of steadfastness to refuse a man like Komarovsky, whose obsession with Lara resulted first in an affair and then in sexual abuse, and that is what drives Lara for years afterward. When Yuri meets her again four years later, it’s on the Ukrainian Front during World War I, where he’s working as a field doctor and she has volunteered as a nurse. They’re each married—Yuri to Tonya (Geraldine Chaplin), the daughter of the family he grew up with, and Lara to former labor organizer and political dissident Pasha Antipov (Courtenay), before he transforms himself into the merciless Strelnikov—but their love for each other is an undeniable thing.
When the dam worker learns who Yevgraf is in the beginning of Doctor Zhivago, he speaks of the titular man and “the Lara” with an air of wonder and reverence. Yuri’s most famous poems were about her, but also the uncertainty of living in a country in transition, with a past that now seemed unfathomably distant. “Wouldn’t it have been lovely if we met before?” Lara wonders, and the question nearly drives Yuri to insanity (“I think we may go mad if we think about all that”) not only because of the possibilities it holds but because of the reality that it never was. “I shall always think about it,” Lara replies, but her hope for the future is hollow. There can be no redemption of the past.
Lean understands the hazy nature of time, framing Yuri and Lara together in shots with fuzzy edges, like a treasured memory slowly slipping away. Most importantly, he lets Christie and Sharif explore the rhythms of their characters as they fall in love. As Yuri, Sharif’s eyes glitter with tears nearly every time he looks at Lara. That rawness is reminiscent of the emotion that washes over his face during his first conversation with Komarovsky, when the man admitted to knowing Yuri’s father and complimented the way “he was devoted to your mother.” Yuri guards the memories of his parents with the same fierceness it took Lara to stand up to her abuser, and he understands what the passion he feels for Lara means.
And as Lara, Christie has the unwavering glare of a woman who knows she has been wronged, who has been conditioned to believe that men never stay, who remembers how her mother almost killed herself when she learned of her daughter’s sexual relationship with Komarovsky. She refuses Yuri’s romantic overtures at first, but who doesn’t desire to love and to be loved? When they meet again, she is stunned into silence, and then overjoyed. “Your letters were full of her,” Tonya had said to Yuri when he returned from the front, noting how often Lara came up in his correspondence home. His heart was full of her, too, and all of them knew it. Yuri, Lara, Tonya, trapped in a maze of love and loss of their own making, stepping toward and backing away from each other over years of time, as the country around them roiled and rebelled.
*
“Adapt yourself,” a volunteer for the Red Guard tells Yuri after his service at the front has ended. When he returns to Moscow, he learns his house has been partitioned into living space for 13 families. Soviet officials are watching his every move, concerned that his popular poetry is anti-Communist. Time has mutated Yuri’s home into a place where everything is forbidden—honesty, sincerity, kindness—and his family must eventually flee. “Your attitude is noticed,” one of those party members says to Yuri before Yevgraf steps in to warn his half-brother that Moscow is no longer safe for him. But when your country is unrecognizable to you, where can you go?
My parents returned to Iran to marry—my father in a creamy ivory suit and crisp leather shoes, my mother in a satin dress with knife pleats and a lace veil—but came back to the United States to live. They said their vows and made their promises in a place they loved, and then they left. What kind of bravery does it take to start over? What depths of fortitude? The kind that Yuri and Tonya drew on to relocate their family to the Russian countryside, to starting new lives in the desolate Varykino, where each winter encases their cottage in depths of ice? Or the kind that inspires Yuri to leave the Red Army after being captured and forced to be their medical officer for two years? The decision almost seems lackadaisical, just a man on a horse, watching other men walk away from him in a misty, snowy field, turning backward instead of forward. But the simplicity of that motion—one path taken, another refused—is the end of one life and the beginning of another.
Yuri’s choice is one in a series of many that demonstrate his love for Tonya, his love for Lara, and his love for his country—and yet each source of affection is, with time, also a source of suffering. He learns that Tonya and their children fled Russia while he was held by the Red Army, and is haunted by visions of them trudging through snow, leaving him behind. He discovers that Lara is in the nearby village Yuryatin, and although they renew their love for each other, they’re found by Komarovsky, whose obsession with Lara has continued unabated. “Who are you to refuse me anything?” Komarovsky snarls. But he divulges that the couple is in danger and helps Lara escape, providing transport for her—pregnant with Yuri’s daughter—to Mongolia, where they can live in secrecy.
But Yuri? “He’ll never leave Russia,” Lara says, and she’s right. Years after they part, Yuri dies of a heart attack, thinking he spotted Lara walking by on a sidewalk, unable to gain her attention from the inside of a passing-by train. It’s a moment of profound, devastating loneliness in a film that specializes in them. Yuri is a boy when we first see him at his mother’s funeral, imagining what her body looks like inside its wooden casket. That night, he peers out of an icy window, listening to frozen branches tapping against the glass, his only possession the colorful balalaika that was his inheritance from his mother—and that he never had the talent to play, but years later, his daughter with Lara does. As an adult, he’s a half-frozen man in tattered clothes, a vacant, haunted look in his eyes as he flees the Red Army as a deserter. And in his last moments of happiness with Lara, he’s a romantic who refuses Komarovsky’s offer of help because he can’t abide being assisted by a man like that.
Lean excels at pinpointing how Yuri is a man out of place, struggling to understand a country around him that is changing all the time. Alone when watching a workers’ march and the ensuing military slaughter of the protestors from the balcony of his family’s palatial home. Alone when following the fragmented rays of sunlight piercing through the trees of a quiet, foggy forest. Alone when facing off against a pack of howling wolves. And alone when wandering through a reclaimed estate turned into a makeshift hospital, the only other living thing inside the home a vase of sunflowers, their petals slowly falling.
In death, Yuri is all of those selves: the boy abandoned, the citizen disillusioned, the man overcome by love. When he collapses in the street, he is overwhelmed by other bodies running to his aid, while the one he wants to see so badly—the woman who could be Lara—keeps on walking, oblivious to his pain. I cry so frantically every time I watch Yuri die that sometimes I feel like I’ve stopped breathing: mourning the life of a man emblematic of an idealism long gone, and mourning the lives my parents could have had.
*
“Don’t you want to believe it?” Yevgraf asks Tanya (Rita Tushingham), a young woman he thinks is Lara’s and Yuri’s missing daughter, after he tells her the story of his half-brother and the woman he loved. “Not if it isn’t true,” she replies, and there’s such yearning to that statement: the desire to truly know something, to examine the ridges and contours of it, to feel how it fits into a part of your heart that previously was unfilled.
Doctor Zhivago doesn’t have a happy ending. Aside from Yuri’s death, there’s Lara’s disappearance (“She died or vanished somewhere in one of the labor camps, a nameless number on a list that was afterward mislaid. That was quite common in those days,” Yevgraf says), and the realization that maybe Tanya won’t ever accept the truth of her parentage. And there’s the truth, of course, that millions of other people died during that time in Russia’s history, that countless families were pulled apart, that so many people were sent away and never came back. Not that different from the Iranian Revolution and what happened afterward. Not really.
“He kept a lot to himself,” Yevgraf says of Yuri, and I think of my parents. Of the lives they had before they met each other and before they married and before they realized the Iran they were born into was no longer theirs. Of all the things they keep hidden away, even now, even after they’ve lived the majority of their lives outside of a country they still call home. Of all the family they can’t embrace again. Of all the time they can’t get back.
I realize in my adulthood that maybe this is why my parents hold Doctor Zhivago so close to their hearts. Maybe they see Yuri and Lara in themselves: people who were denied a country and a way of life. “People will be different after the revolution,” the man who was once Pasha Antipov tells Lara. “It takes a while to get used to things, doesn’t it?” Yuri’s adoptive father says to him. Both were right and both were wrong, and that duality—the inescapably forward movement of time, and how people and places and identities are lost to the past, destroyed and mourned—is the aching tragedy of Doctor Zhivago.

Fall 2016 Power Rankings
I thought this was going to be a fat season, but somehow I ended up not finishing very many shows... Alas.
1. Occultic;Nine: In what is surely one of the biggest upsets in recent memory, not only did a semicolon anime turn out to be good, and not fall apart halfway through, it was actually one of the best shows to air this season. I say "one of" because it was really a dead heat with Flip Flappers, but Occultic;Nine takes it by a fraction due to having an actually satisfying ending. The show probably benefits from being based on a novel rather than a videogame, and its multithreaded plot is convoluted but never so much that you get lost among its nine separate major actors. The way the story's central mystery is slowly woven from this disparate threads is captivating, not least of all because of the show's always-up-to-11 pacing which puts you in danger of missing something important if you so much as blink. The result is a truly absorbing anime, and my show of the season.
2. Flip Flappers: Speaking of absorbing, for about six to eight weeks I was ready to call Flip Flappers one of the best anime ever made. The opening act of this series is some of the most creative and daring storytelling I've seen on TV, a masterclass of both short-form narrative construction and visual art. Five of the first six episodes are conceptually rich enough that they could have formed the basis for an entire series on their own, and Flip Flappers keeps coming at you with one after another. Unfortunately, after six episodes Ayana Yuniko left the show and it turned into a bog-standard adventure anime, complete with overly evil antagonist and copious flashbacks. Still a good one, but hardly "one of the best ever made."
3. Hibike! Euphonium 2: The sequel to my AOTY of the previous year didn't disappoint, for once. Eupho continues to be an emotionally rich and satisfying coming-of-age story. There were some missteps for sure, namely the story arc about Touyama Nao's character and the fact that Kumiko and Reina never had gay sex (actually their relationship is unfortunately kind of neglected in this second series) but it was overall an enjoyable conclusion. Not least of all, Kurosawa Tomoyo's performance as Kumiko continues to be some of my favorite voice work ever; her range here is the dramatic fulcrum on which the entire show pivots.
4. Girlish Number: You had to know an anime about seiyuu would be up here for me. Sore ga Seiyuu! was good, but let's be honest: much like Shirobako, its view of the industry it tries to depict is very rose-tinted. Watari Wataru's depiction of the seiyuu industry, he being an outsider looking in, is -- well, it's still rose-tinted, but it has a cynical undercurrent that is very appropriate. A self-interested egomaniac like Chitose really seems like the appropriate lens by which to view the anime industry in 2016.
5. Shuumatsu no Izetta: I didn't expect this to be the better fantasy World War II anime this season, but we'll get to that later. Izetta starts stronger than it ends, which is unfortunately a common theme with anime lately, but it never really goes "full spaghetti" and has a satisfying ending if you ignore the last 50 seconds or so. The concept, a pseudo-historical WW2 where one of the small countries Nazi Germany invades discovers magic and uses it to change the tide of the war, is actually interestingly utilized rather than just window-dressing, although the political chicanery stretches the limits of believability towards the end. The action (especially in episode 3) is fantastic and the soundtrack is one of the best of the year, plus there's some nice yuri subtext (how long has it been since I wrote that phrase in a review) between Izetta and Fine to round things out. Oh, also erotic evil Ten-chan voice.
6. Stella no Mahou: One day there will be a game design anime where the characters make something other than shitty visual novels. This is not that day. That bit of whining aside, Stella is one of the better examples of this type of show recently (certainly better than Shoujotachi wa Kouya wo Mezasu, which you probably forgot about already) featuring an endearing cast of characters that genuinely grow on you as the series progresses. Yep, this cute girls doing cute things anime actually has character development, and it's satisfying watching Honda-san going from a shy dweeb with no confidence in her art to leading her own game project.
7. Bubuki Buranki Hoshi no Kyojin: Bubuki is a hard one to review because it was a little bit of everything. It has a huge cast of characters and goes from hot-blooded battle anime, to harem comedy, to horror-tragedy, to mystery... Surprisingly, it's still a cohesive whole. The whole framing story about the Burankis is a little out there, but if you focus on the characters, its a satisfying adventure. I probably mentioned this when I reviewed its first cours, but it also deserves special commendation for being some of the best-executed fully CG anime out there.
8. Keijo!!!!!!: The rump zone taken to the next level. For as much as this was decried as the most heinous thing ever put to film, Keijo isn't even much of a fanservice anime. Yes, there are titties and ass everywhere, but it's entirely in service of the shounen-style power-level-and-hissatsu-waza-driven sports anime that it really is. I love lewd anime, but I wouldn't even really consider Keijo a lewd anime. What it is is a great over-the-top sports anime that will if nothing else make you laugh your ass off at the absurdity of it all.
9. Shakunetsu no Takkyuu Musume: Speaking of sports anime, this show is almost literally Saki but with ping-pong. As a sports anime it's serviceable, and there's some great animation in the table tennis action sequences, but ultimately the characters fall a little flat, possibly because despite it being a sports anime there are no real stakes throughout the series. The story culminates in... a practice match... so it's hard to get excited about much besides the top-notch animation. Oh, and the gay, because the yuri is up to Saki levels in this series as well.
10. Okusama wa Seitokaichou!+!: They put straight up porn on TV now. I watched an anime man jizz in his pants. In close-up.
11. Brave Witches: There have been a lot of disappointing anime in the last several years, especially of the sequel variety, but Brave Witches just might be the worst of all of them. The original Strike Witches series, especially the second season, is one of my favorite anime of all time. It has everything I love: cute girls doing badass things with crazy technology and out-there sci-fi plots. Brave Witches ostensibly has all that too, but it's done on a shoestring budget which just lets the air out of the balloon far too often. The action sequences were one of the main highlights of the original series, and here I found myself wishing they would just get them over with and move back to the character stuff because the copiously utilized 3DCG was just so bad. Apparently they're redoing some of the worst CG cuts as hand-drawn for the BD release, which might make the show more enjoyable, but ultimately Brave Witches as it aired on TV was a letdown. The story starts out extremely weak but comes together alright at the end, and some of the characters (Nipa, Sasha, and Naoe) are very enjoyable, so it's a shame because this show could have been alright.
12. Lostorage incited WIXOSS: This is a disappointment too, but it's one I saw coming. With a different director and writer on board, I never expected Lostorage to capture the magic that made selector one of my favorite anime of 2014, and indeed, it failed. It pays lip service to the dark and brooding tone of the original, but the plot is completely asinine, based around a completely worthless antagonist who has no motivation other than "is evil." This is creative writing 101 level garbage. The nods toward continuity with the original series were probably what I enjoyed the most, purely on a nostalgic level. Well, that and Iguchi Yuka's angry voice.

My version of the Tartaros Arc
Hey another re write for my alt fairy tail. So this will be our big war arc This will take us all over so here’s the map of Ishgar
Tumblr media
After the GMG all the kings of Ishgar are gathered in the magic council headquarters in Era
The Kings are discussing recent events and getting small intros, with the reveal that Dan Straight is the new king of Pergrande and Coco is his Secretary of State
They are called to order by Gran Doma who says how they should become leaders more actively in the world of magic as it affects everyone
The king of Joya is pretty dismissive saying that's the whole reason the council was invented to control and over see the world of magic while kings oversaw their kingdoms and handled that.
Gran Doma states that they should do more than that as Gran Doma lists off event that have happened like the release of Nirvana, the uprise in Pergrande, and the fall of 2 heads of Balam
Gran Doma says that also in the past that the council rarely got involved in individual government and that's changing, in fact change in the world of magic is even more a reason to take hands on roles
But the meeting ends, no king all that convinced and uncaring.
The magic council then confers, with Doranbolt and Lahar looking over it, and Org wishing that more people leaders cared. Gran Doma says the world of magic is in an era of change and that one change will be the fall of the dark guilds organization. Doma calling for Tartaros's destruction
The building is destroyed by Jackal with the council and Lahar dying.
Cut to fairy tail as they try to figure what is Tartaros as succubus eye was a servant of theirs. Levy stating that they've been working from the shadows but never as open as OS and Grimoire.
Natsu is currently rattled by the demons of Zeref asking Levy about them. Her giving a run down.
Natsu is also concerned as Atlas mentioned Igneel and he contemplates how much time he's wasted not looking for Igneel
It cuts to Ultear who states that there are changes about to happen seeing as dark guilds under Tartaros are becoming abandoned
Cut to Laxus and The thunder God Tribe in 8 island and it goes the same way Yajima and all of Fairy Tail are looking over the hospitalized Laxus. Yajima stating that Tartaros may be coming after all the former members. Natsu says they should kill Tartaros but Macao says that it may be best as the rune knights are completely disorganized.
Levy states that if one S class mage was needed to beat one Demon gate then they should split up into teams of 2
Mystogan says he'll go to Pergrande and ask for assistance
The teams are Natsu & Happy going to Caelum, Erza and Mira going to Stella, Lucy & Wendy to Bosco, Elfman and Cana going to Joya, Levy and Gajeel to Minstrel, Gray and Juvia to Iceberg
Yajima and Doranbolt are going to head to a secret place
Natsu is at Caelum and when he sets foot on it he's immediately recognized by his FT mark and brought to the king.
On the way to their target, Crawford, Mira says she's proud of Elfman for really growing Erza saying that he'll maybe be ready to surpass her.
Gray and Juvia are heading to Iceberg Gray trembling slightly remembering he came from Brago in Iceberg and it'll be almost 14 years since he came back
Back on Caelum, Natsu is brought to the King's palace. Natsu saying he's looking for council man Leiji. The King says he knows and he's council man Leiji brother, Reiji Caelum. (Natsu makes a comment that they have the same sideburns)
Happy says Tartaros is attacking council members and that Leiji is in trouble. Reiji says he knows and he's already prepared moving Leiji to a mega security unit.
Off on a coastal town of Caelum, there is a massive flood, one survivor saying this was a calamity and reveals Tempesta in his new body.
We make a small cut to Gajeel and Levy with Pantherlily checking out Minstrel and searching for Belno. Gajeel is happy to see her again
Elfman and Cana make it to Joya looking for councilor Yuri. The people seem off put as they are mages in Joya. Cana saying Joya doesn't like organized magic use and never established a guild system.
Natsu on Caelum is ticked that he's not allowed to help. But as he word comes in that a twister just appeared and wreaked part of a city Natsu remembers what the thunder God Tribe told him about Tempesta's power
Reiji says he'll protect his own brother without help. Natsu however follows behind the army sent out to take Tempesta.
Tempesta is outside the unit destroying everything in sight. The army is no match but Natsu arrives and is able to push back Tempesta. Natsu asks how he's here as Laxus destroyed him. Tempesta saying he was reborn in hell's core.
There is a cut to Lucy and Wendy arriving in a small town in Bosco. Lucy asks how to get to the town Michello is in and the civilian grimaces saying that they probably should say away if they value not having a headache
Cut back to Caelum where Natsu is fighting Tempesta, Happy says he'll save Leiji. Tempesta just activates "sink" which causes Natsu to sink then Tempesta uses "earthquake" causing the unit to collapse.
Happy however made it out with Leiji but then Tempesta bombards them with "Thunderbolt". Natsu gets out of "sink" and smashes Tempesta in the head. Tempesta pissed, enters demon form and smacks away Natsu.
Demon Tempesta narrows in on Happy and Leiji, but is stopped by Kagura.
Natsu is curious why she's here with Mermaid Heel and Kagura states Doranbolt contacted the guild and every guild has been asked to assist in this all of it
Cutting across showing Lamia in Iceberg, Sabertooth in Minstrel, and Blue Pegasus here in Caelum are there to transport everyone around the continent.
Tempesta says he doesn't care who's in his way but is ultimately killed by Kagura.
Cut to Elfman and Cana arriving in Joya looking for Yuri. They are disheartened to find Yuri is dead but the body destroy their communication lacrima. Sayla is revealed and makes Cana fall to sleep and Elfman have her in a position where he can break her neck
Natsu and Happy are told to get on Christina.
Happy uses the communication lacrima and everyone checks in. Lucy saying she made it to Michello's location, Gray saying in Iceberg they failed and the councilor is dead, Gajeel on his way to Belno, Erza and Mira made it to Crawford.
The only one not to make contact is Elfman and that gets Mira worried and Erza tells her to take their traveling beast to Joya given it's a couple miles away from Joya so Erza by herself will protect council man Crawford.
Lucy is having difficulties with Michello until Jackal comes barging in. Lucy reports this and Natsu yells for Blue Pegasus to get him to Bosco
Cut to Yajima and Doranbolt who are searching for some place but when Yajima hears Lucy's report he questions if Tartaros has an outside informant. Seeing as the first attacks seemed obvious as the council headquarters are known and 8 island is well publicized. But these attacks are more specific.
Lucy and Wendy fight Jackal who doesn't transform but still busts out his bomb body and is avoided
Mitchello says that if they're targeting council members then Tartaros maybe trying to release Face.
Lucy asks Yajima what Face is and he explains it. Natsu and Blue Pegasus arrive.
It cuts to Gajeel and Levy finding Belno and they ask about Face, Belno agrees to the protective precaution but Torafuzar comes in and fights
Gajeel and Torafuzar are almost equal but Torafuzar pulls Gajeel into the nearby body of water and overpowers him.
Torafuzar back hands Levy and kills Belno. Gajeel is struggling to get up of the water.
In Iceberg, Gray and Juvia are late and the councilman along with the whole town is dead suddenly the bodies get up and start moving
Cut to Erza meeting with Crawford, and it's the same back and forth about how Natsu intruded and he was at her trial. Then Tartaros attacks but this goes the same way in canon and Crawford captures Erza.
On Christina, Wendy and Lucy brought Michello and his granddaughter. Lucy tries contacting everyone but only Levy, Yajima, and Mira come in. At first they find it strange that Erza isn't coming in and then Yajima puts the pieces together saying Crawford is most likely an informant.
Yajima explains Crawford and his super archive magic and how he can use it for Tartaros
Then Macao comes in on the communication lacrima and says that the guild hall has been destroyed. Having had a light condensed lacrima dropped on it. The supporting characters are okay but Macao is sweating and has no idea what to do and mentally admits that he doesn't know what to do
Suddenly Magnolia and apparently most of Fiore is a wave of Tartaros of soldiers. Ultear and Meredy seeing this know there's only one place to go to stop Face if activated.
Over the broadcast Gray talks about all zombies, Kagura on with their communication lacrima says Tartaros is now on Caelum in boat loads.
Natsu inspects that Crawford's house is abandoned and tells Yajima this Yajima is terrified realizing that Crawford is going to use super archive to possibly find a link transfer and now the soldiers don't care and only care about destruction.
Levy then has an idea that maybe if they destroy Face then nothing will be able to activated. But Yajima states there are multiple face bombs.
Mystogan gets on the line saying he's got Pergrande's help and are going to take down Faces. There's a problem, they can only cover the eastern half.
The others contact: Kagura saying Mermaid Heel will cover Caelum, Jura says Lamia Scale will cover Iceberg, Macao says they'll find something to do for Fiore, and Sting says Sabertooth will cover minstrel, and Mira will try a cover Joya.
On the Cube Crawford is struggling to find the organic link fast enough. Revealing Belno and Org had the keys. Franmalth makes fun of him, Crawford stating he'll find the last key while locating a person isn't hard he can't locate magic of the person with out serious resources. Crawford says just give him an hour.
In hell's core, Kyouka finishes the new Jackal body, and a new Minerva. Kyouka gives Minerva the mission of killing Sabertooth to stop them from stopping Face.
Kyouka Apologies as there won't be a new body for Tempesta quickly as she has to divert resources for a person in hell's core who their master ordered be given modifications, Erza.
Kyouka will turn Erza into a demon and soon Sayla will return and brainwash her.
Cut to Mira going to the capital of Joya, Diamanté, which was where Elfman last was heard and he's currently in beast form destroying the city under control of Sayla.
Mira wants to stop the beast but while fighting she can't bring herself to go all out with Elfman.
Mira realizes the asleep Cana and aims a small bubble of magic at her that awakens her. Cana activates card dimension cutting off influence of Macro through Elfman.
The two ready to fight Sayla and cut to Iceberg where Silver appears. Gray and Juvia are too busy with zombies till Lyon shows up.
With Yajima he and Doranbolt finally make it to where they've wanted to, Magic council prison to release the Seis. Yajima activates a protocol stating that if there is a vacant council seat, in the time of crisis a former council member who was never impeached, is allowed to be reinstated as long as it's witnessed by an official, Doranbolt.
They want the Seis to destroy the Face in Desierto. In exchange absolute pardon and a clean slate.
Back in Magnolia, Macao is panicked but then the thunder God Tribe tells them to destroy face while they protect Magnolia.
On the Christina they are wondering where to support, Natsu says that doesn't matter, they need to find Tartaros HQ to save Erza. Hibiki agrees saying there is Crawford most likely is. Problem is no one knows where to look for HQ.
Lucy then remembered that there was a light condensed lacrima dropped meaning the base could be airborne.
Hibiki states that he already scanned for aerial crafts and all there was were magic airships. Lucy remembers Jackal gloating about Curse power and asks if Hibiki can scan for that and they find that the Cube is over Minstrel. They plot a course for it.
In Minstrel, Gajeel has gotten back to Levy and states he can beat Torafuzar. We then cut to Sabertooth where Orga destroys a face with his Black Lightning. This location is a canyon that has multiple face bombs. Torafuzar is trying to protect it and punches Orga away.
The Sabertooth guild is able to take the foot soldiers but Torafuzar is giving them trouble.
Minerva arrives shocking all members of Sabertooth. Minerva says she'll break Sabertooth first attacking Yukino but is stopped by Sting who says he'll fight her.
Gajeel finds this canyon, and goes after Torafuzar in Iron shadow dragon mode. He states that he won't lose seeing as they're miles away from water where Torafuzar has the advantage.
Torafuzar activates Tenchi Kaime filling the canyon with black water and this goes the same as in canon.
Gajeel is struggling to breathe after all the fighting. And when Tartaros minions try to attack but Rogue protects him.
Cut to Christina where they begin questioning why they are going to Minstrel and it turns out, Minstrel is where the magic council headquarters are.
Yajima who's been keeping the communication lacrima line open, says that magic council headquarters are in Minstrel. Yajima figures if they break the organic link they still need to access the magic panel in Era to activate it.
They set themselves for Minstrel hoping to beat them there.
Cut Joya where Mira and Sayla are hammering it out. Sayla is trying to blast away Mira but Cana launches cards distracting Sayla.
Their fight is tearing through the city and Cana sees the king of Joya who's ranting to get him out of here.
Cana asks why he's not sending out his knights to help destroy face and he says he doesn't care either way.
Cana points out the obvious of how without magic won't protect him, but she also states that magic is their lives and their passions and how all their years of practicing it will be robbed from them in an instant. Cana just leaves saying "excuse me, I have to protect your city from a demon with that magic you don't care about."
Mira forces Sayla into etherios form but Mira enters Stiri to counter it. It looks bad but Cana enters and releases Elfman as a surprise attack.
They eventually win but Sayla says in Hell's core she will be revived.
Mira reports this to the Christina which they now figure in Tartaros HQ they have to rescue Erza, destroy the Hell's Core, and stop the chairman.
In Tartaros Kyouka meets with Mard Geer and they discuss how with out magic E.N.D will be released.
Christina finally is insight of the Cube. Christina charges full speed towards it but Kyouka releases a bunch of winged beasts that look like the cyclops monster Natsu fought in sun village only these are smaller.
Christina opens fire but they can't quite land on it so Ichiya grabs Natsu, Lucy, Happy, Carla, and Wendy and in power perfume MAX MEN he throws them to the landing of the Cube.
Once on the Cube, there are three path ways, Natsu recognizes Erza's smell and says he'll go through that path, Wendy and Lucy split up taking the other two paths. Natsu takes it to Hell's core seeing Tempesta, Sayla, and Torafuzar's reforming bodies.
Natsu sees Erza is now in one of the tubes yelling to let her go, Kyouka says no and then says pushes Natsu back but Happy however, stealthily sneaking near Erza's tube and shatters it.
Lucy makes it to where Crawford is but he's guarded by Franmalth. Jackal watching from the ceiling.
Wendy however makes it to the bottom floor of Tartaros where there are the gates to Mard Geer's room but outside guarding it is Ezel.
Wendy and Ezel fight with Wendy entering dragon force by tasting the air that holds ethernano in it as ethernano is used to charge Hell's Core and Wendy is below it with the excess of it in the air
Wendy goes Dragon Force and with a giant tornado tears Ezel through the Cube causing them to start free falling. Wendy sees Carla is also unconsciously falling and saves Carla She breaks the fall by creating a tornado current that breaks the fall
Carla awakens to see Wendy saved her. Wendy cuts her hair and Carla cries, proud of Wendy
Christina does a crash landing on the Cube with the mages continuing the fight against the cyclops monsters. Michella even helps tired of hearing her grand father yelling at the people to protect him.
In hell's core Erza and Natsu fight Kyouka. Natsu shattering all of Hell's core. In the central room Lucy beats Franmalth by removing her spirits from his body. It looks like it's over but Crawford yells he found the last link.
The last link was Leiji and he transfers it to himself saying now all they need is to transfer it to a foot soldier but then Jackal kills him by blowing him up.
The lock on Face is released and Mard Geer smiles saying it's time and activates Algeria which seals all non demons on the Cube. While expositing about END
Things look bleak around the world as Gajeel hasn't waken up from almost drowning, Wendy is nowhere near the action, Silver shows up teleporting Gray away and Freezing him, Juvia still unable to keep the zombies dead, Sting getting wailed on by Minerva, and everyone is trapped.
But Lucy isn't as it turns out while Algeria was activated Aries coated Lucy in wool protecting her from the technique.
Lucy is attacked by Jackal and Kyouka. Jackal releases his etherios mode and truly begins to beat up Lucy. Even breaking her key ring causing her keys to fall.
She picks them up and summons Aquarius who explains the whole Celestial Spirit King thing and it goes the same as canon.
