Page 19. ---- Find Three-Foot Pipe Attached to Service Line ---- Since last summer, police and Consumers Gas Company officials allege that George Gaines, colored, of Soho St., has been stealing gas by tapping the service line.

During the summer, Gaines’ gas was turned off when he was unable to pay a bill that, the police say, amounted to $19.

Yesterday Detective Atkinson and an official of the company located a three-foot pipe attached to the service line and also leading into Gaines’ house. He was arrested on a charge of theft of gas.

“Police Court Cases Heard at Napanee.” Kingston Whig-Standard. February 1, 1933. Page 5 --- Napanee, Feb. 1 — Magistrate Graham presided at three cases in the Police Court on Tuesday morning and in one case the decision will be given on Saturday and in the other two remands were made until today.

A resident of Belleville appeared on a charge of reckless driving and it is alleged that after getting his car repaired at a local garage, he proceeded west on the King’s Highway and his car demolished a mail box. Magistrate Graham will give his decision on Saturday.

While hockey games were in progress at the arena on Monday night, a local resident perceived a man in the alleged act of taking gas from cars and Provincial Officer Barrett, who was in the arena at the time, was called out and the man was placed in custody. He appeared in the Police Court and was remanded until this morning. Later in the morning a young chap from town also appeared before the magistrate on similar charge and was remanded until this morning.
