He’s heeeerrrreeeee! As many of you probably already knew, from this issue onwards, StC Robotnik will have a design inspired by that of the cartoons of the time. This seemed to be “the western Robotnik” at the time, although the mileage may vary there. While this game didn't affect StC at all, even SEGASonic Arcade was intended to use the western Robotnik design at one point in development, but this didn't reach the final game. But the fact of the matter is that he’s here and he’ll stay here for the rest of the run. He gets an outfit update for the Sonic Adventure adaptation at the very end of the series, but that’s about it as far as I can remember
Amy is also here and she’ll be a lot more present this time than she was in the last issue, I’m glad to say
Don’t worry Sonic, as the self-appointed president of the AroAce Sonic Fan Club, I believe you about Amy not being your girlfriend, even if Grimer doesn’t. I do like the nod that Sonic already knows Grimer, even if we haven’t seen them interact before now. So far, StC has taken the approach of “these characters mostly already know each other, you just didn’t see how they met”. And as a fan, I like that, because it means that I can fill in the blanks myself in fanwork. I know there’s probably not a lot of folks racing to make fanfics or comics about how Sonic met Grimer specifically, but it’d also be cool to see takes on how he met Porker, Johnny, Tails, etc., in StC. I just like when that kind of backstory is left up to the fans’ imagination
Robotnik is eager for everyone to check out his new look and Sonic is of course, not impressed, but he gets a move on as Amy’s safety is put on the line
We get a short sequence of the duo breaking free, but I’m more interested in this cool robot Amy design! Granted, she doesn’t do anything before getting destroyed, but I do like that StC is once again ahead of the curve by giving us a Metal Amy years before any other Sonic media would make good on that concept. Not only that, but we get another reminder of how messed up the whole badnik process is here, with Amy saying that the programming is taking over her brain As a side note, looking at Sonic’s reaction here, I’m kind of starting to see why I personally never got into SonAmy as a romantic ship, because this was the version of Sonic I knew first, he was my main Sonic for a chunk of my childhood, and he’s really not into the idea of dating Amy
Carrying on from that, I just wanted to share this panel of Sonic rescuing Amy from the badnik because I like it
Our heroes escape and aren’t followed because Grimer was annoyed about the badniks destroying his bubble prison earlier, so he smashed them all up. Given that last line from Robotnik, it’d be funny if we never saw Grimer again after this. But he’ll endure and next time he appears, he’ll be written entirely as his own character and not as a Snively stand-in
Back at the base, Johnny’s making a suggestion that probably won’t go down well with Sonic - that Amy should join his Boys’ Club for her own safety
Eh, actually, Sonic takes that better than I thought he would. He’s just more annoyed at Amy claiming to be his girlfriend. We get Amy mischievously saying “Not yet, anyway!” Which is even funnier with the hindsight that she’ll never be with Sonic in StC and actually goes on to start a family with Tekno the Canary :’)
Also, I’m looking at Johnny’s nervous glance there. I always remember my friend telling me that Johnny had a crush on Amy, but never actually seeing that for myself? So, I am curious to see if that’s something that’ll turn up somewhere in these early comics
To see us out we get the tease of another fan-fave from the games… Metal Sonic! Known in StC as Metallix. We’ll get a lot of mileage out of Metallix, that’s for sure The preview text also says that next time we’re meeting another StC regular, Captain Plunder. I am unapologetically a fan of Captain Plunder, so I'm looking forward to that Once again, this issue gave us a lot! It might be the only Sonic story in this issue, but it did the legwork to make up for it. I know a lot of people aren’t fond of the comics coming up with these explanations for the characters’ design changes, but admittedly, it’s something that’s never bothered me. I do think it’s probably cleaner writing just to update their designs and not say anything, but I don’t mind having silly explanations like “Robotnik used an egg cocoon to transform” or the chaos energy being what gives Sonic his green eyes. I know some takes on design updates are better than others, but I can’t say I have the same strong opinion about them that many folks do. But that aside, we have Amy officially joining the Freedom Fighters! She’ll go on to be one of the most prominent members of the group. I’m not sure how her early stories play out, since she was already the crossbow badass by the time I picked up issue 80, so it’ll be fun to watch her character change over time

Sonic the Comic reading order
Ya wanna read Sonic the Comic? Luckily for you keeping track of the side books is nowhere near a mind boggling task as it was for Archie. Partially due to there being a lot less to keep track of (2 Yearbooks, 9 Poster Mags, and 6 specials) and also since a lot of the side book content tends to be standalone, with the main book’s anthology structure allowing for easy plopping things in without breaking up the flow of whatever is going on in the main book. Enough bits and bobs of relevant release info has potential to be in pages not included in online scans that I might edit this list with more info when sources of said potential info (most notably Sonic the Comic the Podcast) get there.
Full list under the read more with explanations:
1993 Yearbook (generally referred to as 1991/92 yearbook by online sources due to a misunderstanding involving the copyright dates)
Release Placement: Exact release date unknown; good chance of the interior contents being produced before StC itself, but folks actually there at the time (like the guys from Sonic the Comic the Podcast) recall it actually came out after StC began (likely in the summer like both british comic yearbooks/annuals) Actually published by Grandreams, not Fleetway, though some of the creators involved would also work on Fleetway sonic.
Optimal Placement: Either before you begin, or if you want actual proper StC to be your first impression, between issues 6 and 7.
Sonic the Poster Mag 1
Release Placement: Advertised as being “out now” in issue 14, so most likely released the same time.
Optimal Placement: Does not contain actual comic content (but is a neat curiosity worth checking out), so might as well read it when it came out.
Sonic the Poster Mag 2
Release Placement: Same day as issue 16
Optimal Placement: Again doesn't actually have any comic content, may as well read it in release placement.
Sonic the Poster Mag 3
Release Placement: Between issues 20 and 21.
Optimal Placement: No need to deviate from release placement.
Warning: contains a gross racist character design unlike anything else seen in the series
Eternal Champions Special
Release Placement: Between issues 21 and 22
Optimal Placement: Either before or after the first Eternal Champions serial (so either between issues 18 and 19 or between 24 or 25). I personally lean towards the latter. (Though I do find the flow it gives doing it in release placement interesting)
Sonic the Poster Mag 4
Release Placement: Between issues 24 and 25
Optimal Placement: No need to deviate from release placement.
1994 Yearbook (generally referred to online as the 1992/93 Yearbook)
Release Placement: Unknown, but it would've been in the summer of '94.
Optimal Placement: Anywhere between 28 and 33.
Sonic the Poster Mag 5 and Sonic the Summer Special (1994)
Release Placement: Between issues 28 and 29
Optimal Placement: The Summer Special could be moved to between issues 32 and 33 given that the knuckles strip in it leads into the Sonic 3 adaptation. That's also apparently closer to when the Poster Mag was actually written in relation to the main book. If you do both the Poster Mag and Summer Special next to each other I'd say Poster Mag first if only because the back cover advertises the Summer Special.
Sonic the Poster Mag 6
Release Placement: Advertised as being “out now” within the pages of issue 35, so either the same time or the previous week.
Optimal Placement: Story takes place Chronologically between issues 34 and 35
Sonic the Poster Mag 7
Release Placement: Between issues 37 and 38
Optimal Placement: No need to deviate from release placement.
Sonic the Poster Mag 8
Release Placement: Same day as issue 40.
Optimal Placement: No need to deviate from release placement.
Sonic the Poster Mag 9
Release Placement: Same day as issue 42
Optimal Placement: Between 42 and 43
Sonic Holiday Special (1995)
Release Placement: Issue 53 tells you to “look out for it” and is described as "Out Now" in issue 54
Optimal Placement: Between 53 and 54
NOTE: NOT A SIDE BOOK BUT:
"The Big Decision" (the main strip from issue 76) appears to have meant to be intended to be the strip immediately after "The Return of Chaotix" (the serial that ended with issue 71); so one thing you could do is read the story (and just this story, not the rest of the issue) after you finish issue 71
Knuckles Knock Out Special
Release Placement: The original slated release date was between issues 75 and 76 but it ended up getting delayed to releasing the same day as issue 79
Optimal Placement: Chronologically the story takes place after "The Big Decision" (which discussed earlier) and before "The Ghost Ship" (the Knuckles serial that began in issue 74). If you took the previous advice of moving "The Big Decision", then a good spot to read it would be after issue 73
Sonic Holiday Special (1996)
Release Placement: Between issues 81 and 82
Optimal Placement: Between issues 79 and 80
Total Sonic Special
Release Placement: Between issues 160 and 161
Optimal Placement: Issue is pure reprints and the only "scans" are of its cover, so there really isn't a place to "put" it.

…Ain’t that the truth? The cover this time teases the big design change that Robotnik’s about to undergo, while Sonic and Amy look on. I love that Amy’s only been here for two issues and yet she’s been on the cover for both of them

Rising Covid-19 cases and boxing team doctor’s positive report lead to cycling, hockey camp’s indefinite postponement | More sports News
NEW DELHI: A sense of fear and anxiety has gripped athletes and sports administrators after certain recent developments at the NIS Patiala raised fresh questions about the Sports Authority of India’s (SAI) preparedness to resume sports activities and national camps in different disciplines across its various regional centres in the country. An embarrassing quarantine protocol breach by India’s two Olympic-bound boxers, Vikas Krishan and Satish Kumar, and Vikas’ training partner, Neeraj Goyat, at the NIS Patiala, which resulted in the management change at the top leading to the interim suspension of NIS’ executive director, Col. Raj Singh Bishnoi, followed by a team doctor associated with the boxing discipline testing positive for covid-19 infection – all these incidents have made athletes worried about their well-being and safety when reporting for the camps after over three months of lockdown. Similarly, the SAI, which has taken up the mantle of organising camps for returning athletes in the wake of the derecognition of 57 national sports federations (NSFs) by the Delhi High Court, too, has been walking a delicate tightrope in its bid to keep athletes mentally healthy and motivated during these uncertain pandemic times. While the SAI has been gradually opening up its facilities for camps according to its own ‘Standard Operating Procedures’ (SOPs) and guidelines issued by the ministry of home affairs (MHA) and the health and family welfare department (MoHFW), the rising number of covid-19 cases nationwide, fresh lockdowns imposed by various state governments to control the virus surge and recent incidents playing out at the NIS Patiala involving boxers, including doctor Amol Patil testing positive, has thrown a spanner in the SAI’s plans to resume camps in coming weeks at its regional facilities. To begin with, a national camp for the country’s premier cyclists, including India internationals Esow Alben, Ronaldo Singh and David Beckham among others, will not be organised now at the NIS campus amid growing fears of contracting the virus. The camp has been called off keeping the health and safety of cyclists in mind. The development has come in the backdrop of the boxing team’s doctor returning covid-19 positive. The camp, which was originally scheduled to begin in Imphal, was twice postponed (July 1 and July 10) due to the Cycling Federation of India’s (CFI) derecognition like all other 56 NSFs and the SAI’s reluctance to fund the camp. CFI looked to organise the camp at the Khuman Lampak stadium, which has a velodrome in its campus and a hostel as well, but the residential facility wasn’t made available for the cyclists’ stay by the local state administration. CFI was in the process of renting out a space for cyclists outside the campus, but then the derecognition happened. Imphal was originally chosen for the camp because the Manipuri capital fell under the ‘green zone’ demarcation (not affected by covid-19). The camp was later rescheduled for the Wednesday (July 15) start at the NIS, which the SAI agreed to fund as well, but the cyclists stayed put in their respective cities because there wasn’t any clear communication to report for the camp either from the SAI or the CFI. But, after the covid-19 case on the campus, the SAI looked in no mood to take the risk of giving a go-ahead to any fresh camp, that too, when it’s not for the Tokyo Olympic-bound athletes. The SAI, it’s been learnt, has decided to postpone the conduct of the cycling camp for now. The sports body, which is looking for a course correction at the NIS – be it revisiting its quarantine protocols or overhauling the institute’ administration — doesn’t wish to put the athletes’ lives at risk. Similarly, the CFI, too, fears for the well-being of its cyclists and doesn’t want a camp in Patiala. It doesn’t see any logic in making its elite cyclists to travel from different cities all the way to the NIS and then put them under a 14-day quarantine period. Instead, the CFI wishes to start the camp at a much more logistically convenient Indira Gandhi Indoor (IGI) stadium’s cycling velodrome from August 15. CFI’s decision to say NO to the NIS was influenced by the covid-19 positive case on the campus. According to CFI’s chairman, Onkar Singh, while his core group riders in Imphal and Andaman have started training on a dedicated cycling track, the other core group members in Punjab and West Bengal are practicing on road tracks in the morning hours. The CFI will tell the cyclists to assemble in Delhi for the camp, stay quarantined for 14 days at the stadium’s residential facility and then start training at the refurbished velodrome. The CFI’s original plan was to send its cyclists to Germany in May for training-cum-competition tour before returning back to India in August after competing in the UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships in Cairo, Egypt from August 16-21. But then the world was struck by the deadly covid-19 and the subsequent lockdown ensued. It meant that the cyclists stayed put in their respective home cities and couldn’t practice. Also, the IGI velodrome was undergoing refurbishment before the lockdown and the work was expected to complete by August. But, with no labour available and construction activity halted, it would take some more months for the velodrome to become fully operational, which would mean another postponement in dates for the camp. “We are in a fix and don’t want to take chances going to Patiala when there has been a covid-19 case. It’s already too late to conduct the camp in Patiala. There’s no point calling the cyclists to the NIS and putting them under quarantine for the next 14 days and then taking them back to Delhi for the camp in August. It doesn’t make any sense. It would be better to organise the camp at the IGI and we hope that the velodrome becomes operational by then. If not, then at least the cyclists should be allowed to assemble at the IGI so that they can start some sort of practising. SAI should make the IGI’s residential facility for campers available to the cyclists. In the next 15-20 days, cyclists will need to come to Delhi. We also hope that the NSFs’ derecognition issue gets sorted out soon, so that the CFI can conduct the camp. My only concern is the safety and well-being of my athletes, that’s it,” Singh told TOI. Similarly, talking about the hockey camp for the Indian men’s and women’s teams, the SAI has informed that the camp will not resume on July 19 as planned at its regional centre in Bengaluru because of the rising number of covid-19 cases and the city going for another seven-day complete lockdown until July 22. Another reason, it’s been learnt, is the derecognition of Hockey India (HI) as an NSF by the court. The covid-19 case at the NIS, too, has played a part in the decision-making. The players had been sent home on a month-long break by the coaching staff as they remained confined to their hostel rooms at the Bengaluru centre for nearly three months due to the countrywide lockdown. The SAI may not be comfortable holding fresh camps at a time when the cases are rising and athletes themselves are afraid of resuming the training. It’s been learnt that the players haven’t been informed about the resumption of camps either by the SAI or HI. Since the HI is derecognised, the SAI has been directly contacting the athletes and organising camps. The men’s team chief coach, Graham Reid and scientific advisors Robin Arkell (men’s) and Wayne Lombard (women’s) are currently staying at the SAI centre. At the NIS, the Olympic-bound boxers and core probables, along with the coaching support staff, haven’t been retested for covid-19 after doctor Patil’s positive test report on Monday evening. It had been decided by the SAI to get the 11 boxers and Indian men’s team chief coach, CA Kuttappa and women’s team head coach, Mohammed Ali Qamar, among other support staff members, retested to rule out the possibility of any of them being infected by the virus. The men’s team boxers, including world No. 1 pugilist in the 52kg category, Amit Panghal and Ashish Kumar, among others, along with the coaching staff, were at the same quarantine facility where Patil was staying. The team members were quarantining at the STC boys’ hostel at the polo ground outside the campus. But, two days have passed, the boxers and coaches are still waiting for their samples to be collected.

Gabriela Hearst’s eponymous brand of sophisticated ready-to-wear and sleek, minimalist accessories has earned her high-profile fans like Meghan Markle, Katie Holmes and Danai Gurira. Typically, getting possession of her handbags is done via request only, but for a short while they are available for immediate purchase at gabrielahearst.com. The click-to-buy access comes in part with her efforts with Save the Children to help children caught in Yemen’s catastrophic state of war. From December 2 to December 9, 100 per cent of net proceeds from Gabriela Hearst sales will be donated to support child nutrition and relief efforts.
“For me personally the holiday spirit should be about giving, and this is why we are donating all net proceeds to this important cause. I have deep admiration for the past, present and future work of Save the Children,” Hearst said in a statement from the brand. In addition to Hearst’s e-commerce platform, customers can shop the week-long initiative with Save the Children at her flagship stores in New York and London.

These are pictures of Yemen from 2012 before the war started (2015) that my dear friends Stacey & Terry McDonnell took. Now it is war torn and 12 million children needs desperate help and assistance. Tomorrow our @savethechildren #yemen campaign starts. We are giving ALL our net proceed generated from 12/2 to 12/9 in our stores and e-commerce. This crisis has fallen out of the media but is still very present and STC is one of the few and largest NGO’s that at high risk is allowed to operate in Yemen. I have been fortunate enough to see STC in action in the field. It is extraordinary the work they do for children in remote places, conflict torn with broken infrastructures or none at all. Real life hero and heroines. #savethechildren #yemen #gabrielahearst

Save the Children is one of the largest not-for-profit organizations on the grounds of Yemen, working directly and tirelessly to provide needed support. With more than 12 million Yemeni children in need of humanitarian backing, Save the Children is equipping crisis-affected children and their families with food, cash vouchers, critical healthcare services, education and protection. “The humanitarian crisis has fallen out of media discourse, given the speed of our current news state. The catastrophe is present and needs as much help as possible,” said Hearst.

This initiative couldn’t come at a more desperate time for Yemeni kids. A new analysis released by the global humanitarian organization shows that tens of thousands of children are near famine, and if the current issues with aid access are not resolved, their risk of severe acute malnutrition and death increases exponentially.
Carolyn Miles, CEO of Save the Children, is witnessing first-hand the needs inflicted by the war. “I visited the war-torn country earlier this year, and Yemeni children are truly bearing the brunt of this conflict. They suffer from malnutrition and other illnesses, and are missing out on school and childhood,” she said in a statement.
Hearst’s brand was built with the intention to make all things with care and detail, valuing the importance of craftsmanship over trend. Taking a slow approach to fashion, the designer has always carefully considered where her materials are sourced from and who is making them. With this new initiative, she’s now expanding the circle of people her work can directly impact.

2018 Champions Herlings and Prado End Season With Italian Wins
The Italian circuit of Imola has hosted another historic weekend of racing with the final round of the 2018 MXGP FIM Motocross World Championship. The weekend was a finale to 20 rounds of racing around the world over 8 months and today the 2018 Champions from Red Bull KTM Factory Racing, Jeffrey Herlings and Jorge Prado, capped of the year with another pair of dominant wins.
Imola’s Autodromo Enzo & Dino Ferrari track was the venue of choice with over 25,000 cubic meters of dirt added to the natural elevation of the circuit for the weekend. The historic venue was the first in Italy to host Motocross International racing in 1948 and now on the 70th anniversary has seen the conclusion of one of the most competitive World Championship seasons ever. Taking the 3 spots in the final MXGP championship standings were the only three riders to win a GP in 2018, Jeffrey Herlings, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli, and Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle. Meanwhile in the MX2 standings Jorge Prado, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Pauls Jonass, and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Kjer Olsen finalized the top three spots.
MXGP The new MXGP World Champion, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings, had nothing to prove this weekend but still came out and dominated with double race wins to take the final MXGP overall of the year.
The first MXGP race was started with a season first Fox Holeshot from Gebben Van Venrooy Kawasaki’s Alessandro Lupino in front of his home crowd as Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Antonio Cairoli opted out of racing to recover for next week’s Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations.
Behind Lupino was Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP Team’s Jeremy Seewer, and then Herlings. Seewer and Herlings banged bars in the 4th corner was put the Dutchman up to third. Gajser took the lead from Lupino before the end of the first lap along with Herlings.
Lupino was then third but a collision with Seewer dropped the #77 out of the top 20 and the Swiss rider to 10th. Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle took over third with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Gautier Paulin 4th and Wilvo Yamaha Official MXGP’s Shaun Simpson 5th.
On the third official lap Herlings took the lead from Gajser and a lap later Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Julien Lieber went to 5th past Simpson. In the remaining 16 laps the top 5 held their positions. Herlings had the race win ahead of Gajser, Desalle, Paulin, and Lieber while Seewer made a last lap pass to get by teammate Simpson for 6th.
Race 2’s Fox Holeshot belonged to Herlings who had Gajser and Desalle just behind him. Simpson had another good start in 4th with Lieber again behind him. Paulin was in 6th and had to deal with pressure from Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP’s Jeremy Van Horebeek.
After 4 laps of heat from the Belgian Paulin lost 6th and Van Horebeek then went after Lieber. With 5 laps to go Lieber moved past Simpson for 4th and Van Horebeek put the Wilvo rider another spot back to 6th.
Herlings took the race win with Gajser again 2nd then Desalle, Lieber, and Van Horebeek. Paulin took 6th after passing Simpson with 2 laps to go. In the overall Herlings was the clear winner for the 84 time in his career as Gajser took 2nd and Desalle took third.
Jeffrey Herlings, “It is a great way to finish of the year, to finish with a win. I am very happy and thankful, it has been a great journey, a great experience, a great year, and I have met a lot of great people. I really want to thank especially my team as without them I wouldn’t to be able to do what I did… it is something that will be hard to ever accomplish again. The most beautiful way to finish off the year is to go 1-1 at the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations and if I can accomplish that it will be the cherry on top!”
Antonio Cairoli: “I am really happy to be here, it is such a great place for racing and I think this is a great way to step up our sport. I am looking at the bigger picture of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations next week, it is very important for me and the country of Italy. Like I have said congratulations to Jeffrey and thanks to Youthstream for another good and very intense championship. They have stepped it up with a more professional staff so I am really happy to have another 2 seasons and follow my dream to fight for another world title.”
Clement Desalle: “Finishing third in the championship is really great, also it is a great feeling to be on the box at the end of the championship. My whole team works to be the best possible and to beat those guys and have the best result in the GPs. It is not easy but we are very motivated… it was a very good season overall.”

MX2 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jorge Prado came into this weekend already knowing he was going to be crowned 2018 MX2 FIM Motocross World Champion but it didn’t stop the 17-year old from taking his 26th Fox Holeshot of the year.
Kemea Yamaha Official MX2 Team’s Ben Watson was a top qualifier yesterday but jumped the gate to early today and was back outside the top 15 on the start. Prado lost his lead to Yamaha SM Action MC Migliori’s Simone Furlotti in the first corners and went back to 6th.
Honda 114 Motorsports Hunter Lawrence was third behind Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Thomas Covington but pushed the American off the track to take second.
Covington rejoined the track in 4th behind Prado while Lawrence went on to take the lead from Furlotti who then dropped another spot to Prado. The following lap Covington was up to third but lost the spot 2 laps later to his teammate Thomas Kjer Olsen.
STC Racing Husqvarna’s Henry Jacobi was impressive along with Yamaha SM Action MC Migliori’s Michele Cervellin. Jacobi came from 9th on the first lap all the way up to 3rd after a bike issue ended the race for the leader Lawrence.
Prado took over first after the misfortune of Lawrence and held the lead to the finish where he was met by the Red Bull KTM crew and media to celebrate his 2018 MX2 World title. Olsen took 2nd and Jacobi 3rd while Cervellin made it up to 4th ahead of F&H Racing Team’s Marshal Weltin.
Race 2 started with a 5th Fox Holeshot of the year for Thomas Covington ahead of ASTES4-TESAR Yamaha’s Samuele Bernardini and JD Gunnex KTM Racing’s Richard Sikyna from Slovakia.
Prado was up into 2nd quickly while Kemea Yamaha Official MX2 Team’s Anthony Rodriguez held 4th ahead of Olsen but the #19 fell and handed 5th to BUD Racing Monster Energy’s Brian Moreau in his first MX2 appearance.
Prado then went for the lead and took the spot from Covington as his teammate Olsen took 5th back from Moreau. Olsen was pushed back out of the top 5 on the next lap by Lawrence.
The Aussie was on a roll and took positions away from Rodriguez, Bernardini, and Covington in the following laps. Lawrence gained multiple seconds on Prado in each of the final laps but it was a little too late as the Spaniard took the race victory and his 12 overall win of the season. Lawrence finished second with Covington third and Olsen 4th but in the overall it was Prado, Olsen, and Covington taking the podium.
Jorge Prado’s season has been nothing short of impressive, the 17-year old becomes the first Spanish MX2 World Champion via 10 pole positions, 331 laps in the lead, 17 individual race wins, 12 overall victories and 17 podiums. Prado scored 873 points in 20 rounds of racing averaging 43.6 points per race of the maximum 50. Prado becomes one of only 3 riders to win the title at such a young age joining Ken Roczen and Jeffrey Herlings and is also now tied for 3 most career MX2 Overall wins with Tyla Rattray behind Herlings and Antonio Cairoli.”
Jorge Prado: “I knew I was World Champion already on Thursday so it was a great moment that I didn’t expect. It was a great weekend and I am really happy to finish off the season with a win.”
Thomas Kjer Olsen: “I am really happy to finish third of course, I would like to be closer to Prado and Jonass but I did everything that I could this season. There was a lot of positives this season and there are a lot of things I have learned. I am super happy with my 10 podiums and I don’t think I can be anything other than happy.”
