Aim for the Sky Part 15 | Rooster x Reader
Summary: It's time for Rose to make her grand entrance. No turning back now. All Bradley knows for sure is that he can handle anything when he's with his girls.
Warnings: Fluff, angst, adult language, lactation kink, swearing, pregnancy and labor, DILF Roo
Length: 3600 words
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Female Reader
Aim for the Sky masterlist. This was written to accompany my series Is It Working For You? along with a bunch of my one-shots and other series, but it can be read on its own! Check my masterlist for the reading order.
When your boss sent you home from work a little early to rest, you didn't complain. When Bradley texted you to let you know he'd be a little late but that he'd take care of dinner when he got there, you didn't mind at all. It gave you time to take a little power nap with Tramp before you ultimately got up and got undressed.
Your belly felt tight and tender, and even the fabric of your shirt skimming along your skin was almost too much. You tossed it across the room toward the hamper, and it landed on the hospital bags that you and Bradley had packed and ready to go when Rose decided she was ready to make her grand appearance. You were ready now. You had to roll your shoulders and stretch your back, and even unhooking your hideous maternity bra was a chore.
"Oh," you sighed when you caught sight of yourself in the mirror. You were surprised by your breasts. They looked that good. Maybe your husband was on to something.
After striking a pose and turning to the side, you stripped down to your underwear. He should be home shortly now, and you could already see your breast milk starting to bead on your left nipple. Just thinking about the way Bradley reacted to you left you scrambling to put on some of your sexiest underwear. Okay, so the sexiest pair you could find with some stretch to them.
Tramp went running for the front door before you heard the Bronco in the driveway, and you started to follow him before you had a sudden, painful cramp in your abdomen. "Ow," you gasped, reaching for the side of your belly where you could feel your daughter stretching. You paused and held onto the doorframe as the pain started to subside, but as soon as you stepped out into the hallway, you felt it again. "Rose," you scolded softly. You were just a handful of days away from your due date, and Dr. Morris wanted her to stay put as long as possible. The uncomfortable sensation drifted away again as you walked toward the living room, and you caught sight of your husband running up the walkway through the front window.
When he opened the door and found you standing there topless, your heart skipped around in your chest. He licked his lips, and his gaze sank down your body, taking in every inch, but then he honed in on your breasts. Oh, he knew he was in for a treat as you smiled, and you could feel your milk cooling on your skin.
"Hi, Daddy," you greeted, and he took two steps closer to you as you felt another cramp tear through your midsection. "Ow!" you gasped, looking down at your feet and taking a step backwards as the pain was followed by dampness on your legs. "I think... oh my god. I think I just wet myself!"
You were kind of mortified, and all you wanted to do was run into Bradley's arms, but you froze as he dropped everything he was holding. "Sweetheart. I think your water broke."
"What?" you gasped, already somehow realizing what was going on as your stomach ached with another contraction. "Oh!"
"I think this is it, Sweetheart."
Bradley looked surprised as he collected you into his arms, and you were trying to remember everything Dr. Morris told you to help you prepare for this moment, but you just started to panic instead. "Oh my god," you groaned, doubling over in pain as you felt a little more liquid trickle down your legs onto the floor. "It hurts. And I'm making a mess," you gasped, holding onto Bradley's forearm for dear life.
"It's okay," he coaxed softly. "Look at me." You tried to meet his eyes through your unshed tears, but he was all blurry. "Let's get you on the couch while I grab everything we need for the hospital, okay?"
You tried to nod as you took deep breath after deep breath while he quickly covered the couch cushions with the big throw blanket. Then you settled in and rolled onto your side in a tight ball as Bradley disappeared from the room.
"Rosie," you moaned, "knock it off." When you squeezed your eyes closed and focused on each breath, the pain subsided a tiny bit. You could hear Bradley in the bedroom, and it sounded like he was throwing things around. There were some muffled obscenities, and then you heard his boots on the floor again.
"It's okay," he promised, and you cracked your eyes open to see him kneeling on the floor in front of you. His eyes were soft and sincere, concern mixing with excitement as he held up his worn out UVA shirt for you. "Let's get you dressed and get out of here," he said, helping you sit up.
"What about Tramp?" you asked as he pulled the shirt over your head.
"Nat will come over and pick him up in about an hour."
You threaded your arms through the sleeves as you said, "I need to text my parents."
"I already did," he confirmed, helping you to your feet as it felt like another painful wave crashed against you. "I'll keep them informed. You don't have to worry about anything other than yourself right now. I swear I've got this."
You nodded and stood, and Bradley carefully replaced your soaked lace underwear with his gray sweatpants after he toweled you off.
"That should at least be good enough to get you to the hospital," he muttered, standing before you in his flight suit and combat boots. He ran his thumb along your cheek and smiled as he whispered, "I love you so much, Baby Girl. We're almost parents."
"Roo," you whined breathlessly as you clutched at your belly. "It hurts."
He took your hand in his and led you toward the door with two overnight bags on his other arm. "Let's go."
--------------------------
Bradley kissed the few tears that trickled down your cheek as he got you situated in the blue Bronco. This would be the last time he buckled you in while you had your big belly, and he was simultaneously a little sad and yet so excited. He was happy he took the time to install the car seats in both Broncos, and now all he could think about was driving his tiny daughter and wife back home. A sense of calm took over his body.
"I love you," he whispered against your lips, and then he leaned down to kiss your bump. "And I love you, too, Nugget."
"Roo," you gasped, and he knew he needed to get going. He practically vibrated with anticipation as he walked around the Bronco and climbed in to start the engine. Your eyes were squeezed closed, but when he reached out and took your hand, you let him hold it while he drove. You were breathing so erratically, he was a little afraid you were going to pass out before he could even get you to the hospital.
"Do you think you're having contractions?" he asked, making a turn with just his left hand.
"Yes," you snapped, sucking in a deep, shaky breath. "I'm pretty fucking certain."
Dr. Morris mentioned something about timing how far apart the contractions were and also how long they lasted. He counted in his head while you muttered obscenities under your breath like you were putting a hex on someone. It was less than a minute before you leaned back against the seat with a sheen of sweat on your face and neck.
"I'm sorry I snapped at you, Bradley," you whispered, breathing a little easier as you rubbed your belly with your right hand. "It feels like she's trying to push her way out through my belly button."
"I don't care if you snap at me," he promised, running his thumb along your knuckles. You could do absolutely anything you wanted to him, and he would handle it. The last time you were in the hospital was when you fell at work, and he had been terrified that something happened to the baby or that you were severely injured. "As long as my girls are okay, I'm okay."
"That's sweet," you whispered, eyes closed as you took some steady breaths this time. But the peaceful environment didn't last long before you were groaning and swearing again. "Holy shit." As far as he could tell, as he pulled into the hospital parking lot, your contractions were about five or six minutes apart.
"Were you having contractions like this all day?" he asked when he shifted into park.
"No!" you practically screamed. "Do I look like I could go to work like this?"
Your eyes were wild, sweat was beading on your brow, and you were gripping the dashboard for dear life while you made a hissing noise. He kind of wanted to laugh or make a smart comment, but he thought better of it and simply said, "No, Sweetheart. It was silly of me to ask."
You nodded and breathed sharply through your nose before saying, "It's subsiding for now. Let's go inside where I can leak more amniotic fluid in peace."
At least your sense of humor was slightly intact. Bradley grabbed the bags and took your hand as you walked swiftly toward the entrance for Labor & Delivery. "I'm having a baby," you announced loudly to the nurse at the reception desk who looked at the two of you with mild interest.
"You can go ahead and have a seat," she replied.
"No! I look like I pissed my pants!" you told her, gesturing wildly to your crotch. "And another contraction is going to start soon! Please! Do something!"
Bradley cleared his throat and kissed your sweaty forehead before he asked the receptionist, "Can I give you her name or something to speed up the check-in process? There's about to be some strong language coming from my wife in, oh, I'd say the next two minutes or so."
He watched her close out of the software she was working in and open something new. With you tucked against his side, sucking in air, he told her all of the information she asked for. Just as you were receiving you wristbands, you practically shouted, "Fuck!" as you grabbed at your belly again.
Bradley wanted to expedite this process for you, but the best he could do was offer his hand which you squeezed until you were in tears as the nurse put your wristband on. "Let me check which room we can put you in," she muttered as you whispered 'cocksucker son of a bitch'.
When your contraction seemed to have eased up, you paced around in a small circle. It really did look like you wet his gray sweatpants, and his UVA shirt was damp from your delicious tits leaking through the fabric. But you still looked adorable to him as you let your hand rest on your forehead and said, "I'm sorry I just called you a cocksucker son of a bitch. I didn't mean it, Roo."
"I didn't think you did, Sweetheart," he replied. There was something about being in the hospital, holding the overnight bags and watching you freak out that left his heart pounding. "I can't wait to meet the Nugget," he whispered, running his fingers through his hair as you rearranged the chairs in the deserted waiting area for something to do. "I'm gonna be a dad."
He was deep in thought about his own father, vowing that he'd stick around longer than Goose did. Bradley missed out on too much with his own father, but Rosie was going to deserve the whole world. She already did, because she was half you. Like mother, like daughter. You were aggressively groaning the f word and dragging one of the chairs around noisily. You were perfect, and he was going to do everything he could at work to make sure he was around more and deployed less.
"Bradshaw." Bradley turned when his name was called, and there was a new nurse standing there saying, "The room is ready."
------------------------
"I don't want to do this," you sobbed and hiccupped. "Everything hurt a lot more than you thought it would, and you were convinced you were going to throw up or poop in the hospital bed. Maybe both. Maybe both at the same time.
Bradley was bustling around, talking to nurses and asking where Dr. Morris was while you shivered in your own sweat in a damp cotton gown while your boobs leaked milk all over the place, and that's when another contraction started up again. Why did you convince yourself that having a baby was a good idea? Why did you work so hard and for so long to make this happen? The pain was so intense, your brain could focus on nothing else, and you had the dizzy sensation that you were about to roll onto the floor.
"Roo," you gasped, grabbing at anything you could reach while you tried to think about the line of code you'd been working on in your lab about eight hours ago. Numbers danced behind your eyes as your husband rushed to your side with his rosy cheeks and his messy hair. He looked cute with the sleeves of his flight suit tied around his waist and his black undershirt clinging to his chest and biceps. But the little smile on his face made you wince. He was excited for the baby. It wasn't like you weren't, you just didn't see how you were possibly going to make it through this entire ordeal.
"Baby Girl," he crooned, gently wiping the sweat from your forehead. "Dr. Morris will be here soon. You're doing great. Rosie's heart rate is perfection. They are keeping an eye on your blood pressure."
Maybe it hurt so much because of your preeclampsia. You had no idea. And you were too wound up to even attempt to talk to the nurses about it now. All you could do was wait for the pain medicine they supposedly gave you to start working while you tried to focus on not passing out.
"I can't do this," you whispered, shaking your head as you tried to roll onto your side. You were hooked up to too many monitors. Suddenly all you could hear was beeping. Tears filled your eyes as the pain ramped up again, and there was so much pressure in your pelvis you were convinced you were going to pass out.
But Bradley was right there by your side, and he took your hand in his. It was like he knew what was happening before you did. Sweat beaded on your neck and your upper lip, and when you looked at him, he guided you onto your side.
"It's okay," he coaxed, running his fingers along your neck. And then you emptied the contents of your stomach onto the floor at his feet. It was disgusting, and you whimpered as Bradley eased you onto your back once again. He took a towel from one of the nurses and cleaned you up before dropping it to the floor. "You feel a little bit better?"
"No," you groaned, reaching for your stomach as Rose tried to make a violet escape. "She's lost fucking her mind in there."
You squeezed your eyes shut against the pain while Bradley wiped up your vomit and then knelt next to you. "Come on Rosie. We both want to meet you," he crooned, placing one big hand on your belly. "But can't you come out without a fight?" He kissed your wrist as you cried. "Come on, Nugget."
His hand stroking you softly eased your nerves a little. And then Dr. Morris arrived, and you knew it was time. You could do this, because you had no choice. You and Bradley were ready to become parents, and right now you were so close.
"Your blood pressure is creeping up," Dr. Morris said, voice a little stern. "Let's see how long and hard you can push before we get into trouble."
"Trouble?" you and Bradley asked in unison as his fingers wrapped around yours.
She just nodded vaguely in response as she looked at all of the instrumentation screens again. "I want you to push."
Bradley's brown eyes were on your face as you nodded, at what you weren't exactly sure. "Roo," you whispered through your tears.
"I'm right here, Sweetheart. I'm not going anywhere. Hold my hand and push."
------------------------------
"Fuck you!"
Bradley watched his wife's face as the obscenities flowed freely.
"Fuck you, Bradley. This is bullshit," you told him, squeezing his hand so tight, he didn't know if his pinky finger would survive. "The painkillers did nothing. Nothing. Do you understand me?"
"I do," he promised, trying not to wince in pain that he knew had no comparison to what you were feeling.
"Keep pushing," Dr. Morris said for about the thousandth time, and you growled in response.
"I am." Your teeth were clenched, and Bradley didn't know how you were still hanging on. Your blood pressure readouts looked really high to him, but he didn't want you to worry about it, so he said nothing. But he was scared. It was after midnight now, and you looked exhausted. Even more drained than you did during those early days of your pregnancy where you couldn't even eat and only wanted to sleep.
Sweat dripped down your temple, and your teeth chattered nonstop as you squeezed his hand until he felt his knuckles pop. But you pushed and pushed just like you were told. You were the strongest, most tenacious person he knew, and even though you clearly wanted to give up, you weren't going to.
"I love you," he whispered as you glared at him.
"Now is not the time," you snapped, and he couldn't help but smile a little bit.
"Okay. Later then. When I can love on you and Rosie simultaneously."
"I just want her out," you told him, voice pleading, like you trusted him above anyone else to be able to help you.
But there wasn't much more he could do. He'd been kneeling next to the bed in his flight suit for what felt like days while you mashed his fingers and called him a fucking prick. All he could think to say was, "I'm not leaving your side until she's born."
"We've got progress," Dr. Morris announced just as the machine hooked up to your blood pressure cuff started squawking loudly. "Almost there."
Bradley kept his focus on your face; everyone else would take care of the rest. "You're so close," he whispered, leaning in to kiss your damp cheek. "Rosie's almost here, and then you can rest."
"It's too hard," you sobbed and sucked in a deep breath before clenching your jaw and pushing.
"But you're doing great, Baby Girl. You're so strong." He could hear the nurses cautioning Dr. Morris about your blood pressure, but he pressed his forehead against yours for a beat and said, "Just a little bit more."
He held onto you and wiped at your brow as you looked at him through your tears, and a few minutes later, he heard the announcement he'd been waiting months for.
"Congratulations. A perfect little girl. Time of birth, 1:02 a.m. on March twenty-second," Dr. Morris' voice rang out, followed by the cries of a newborn.
Bradley smiled and whispered, "That's our perfect little girl, Sweetheart."
"It's Rosie," you sobbed, and Bradley kissed your lips while you tried to catch your breath. Your grip on his hand finally loosened, and your tears eased up as you looked toward everyone in scrubs weighing and measuring the baby. When you met his eyes, you whispered, "We have a daughter."
"A Nugget," he confirmed with a nod, swallowing past his tears as one of the nurses finally carried her over. She was naked and crying, and as soon as Bradley saw her, he was head over heels in love.
"You hold her first, Daddy," you whispered, and he reached out with slightly shaky hands toward the second love of his life.
"Oh my god. Look at her," he gasped as Rose was placed in his arms for the first time. His knees and back were killing him, but he'd stay kneeling on this hard floor for the rest of his life if he got to stare at his daughter's eyes fluttering open and closed as she looked up at him and snuggled against his chest.
"She really is perfect," you whispered, and he nodded, unable to look away as her tiny lips parted in yawn. It was the most adorable thing he'd ever seen in his life. She somehow already looked just like you. The weight of responsibility didn't scare him one bit as he stared at the daughter he'd wanted for so long. You and she were his family. When he kissed her forehead, her skin was impossibly soft, and his heart confirmed what he'd already known for months: he would do anything for either of his girls.
"Rose Carole Bradshaw," he said, voice deep with emotion as he carefully placed her in your arms. "We already love you so much."

Marriage of Convenience Chapter 1
Summary: Y/N’s father is gone, and he leaves it all to her. But in 1880s Oregon, she can’t own land without a husband. Under the threat of it all being taken away by a land hungry Sheriff, what’s a girl to do with no prospects? Maybe one of the cowboys on the farm can help…
Here's chapter 1 of the new cowboy!Bucky story! I hope y'all like it (see what I did there?).
Warnings: smut, slight physical violence
Next chapter
Her father died on a rainy Tuesday morning. She was suddenly alone in the world, the last of her family line. Well, not completely alone. There were 9 men on the farm that worked for her father, and now worked for her. The problem was that this was 1880 in the state of Oregon, and therefore her inheriting and owning the land and being able to pay the men was now up for question.
After they buried him under his favorite Juniper tree amongst the others that lined their property, they all gathered together for a family meeting.
“Mis amores (my loves), thank you for your help today in Papa’s burial,” Y/N began, standing at the head of the long dining table in the main house. The men were stationed in their usual spots, each of them in a state of sadness over the loss. “I’d like to read his will, if you’ll let me,” she sighed, opening the folded piece of parchment.
“Mi familia, thank you for all you have done to make this farm a livable and prosperous place on this side of the country. I’m not a man of many words,” a rumble of laughter spread across the table, “so I won’t waste everyone’s time. To my daughter, Y/N, I leave most of my money, the land and the main house to do with as she pleases,” Y/N sniffled as she tried to not let herself cry anymore. One of the men, Bucky, sitting next to her, reached his hand out and rubbed her arm in comfort. “To Bucky,” she gave him a quick smile and a glance, “I leave my most prized guns. Y/N knows where they are. Please keep the farm and my baby safe as you always have,” Bucky squeezed her arm. “To Jorge, Pedro, and Oscar, I leave my horses Beauty, Wind Dixie and Tramp to do with as they please. To Joaquin, I leave my Bible and my best hunting knife. To Diego, Santiago, and Emiliano, I leave the oat field further down south as well as the pear tree farm so that they can have land to bring their family to from Guadalajara.” The three brothers burst into tears at the generous gift, giving each other hugs then standing and giving Y/N hugs as well before sitting back down. “To Luis,” Y/N paused as she held her hand out to the man who was like a second father to her on her other side, which he quickly took. “I leave my cigars and my finest liquor, and thank him for introducing me to tequila all those years ago. I also leave a collection of my books that have been sectioned off for you in the study. I hope as Y/N teaches you how to read more that you will find great education and adventure in them. For all the men, I have created stipend accounts in each of your names with the rest of my money. You are free to empty them and leave, but I hope you will keep them and stay to help Y/N with the farm or at least until she can replace you. The account should last you for most of the rest of your lives. Thank you for your service, for your kindness, for your grace, for your compassion and your love to me and Y/N. You are greatly loved and I will miss you all dearly. Yours, Frank.”
Y/N didn’t read the next page out loud because it was just for her to read, which she had done earlier in private, and sat down as she finished reading. She felt exhausted. “I understand that in Oregon I do not actually have ownership over my father’s money, land, or the house unless I am married. Therefore, I am asking something of you all that is wildly strange, but since I have no prospects, I am at a loss. Would anyone of you, of course for the exception of those married or leaving for Mexico,” she winked at the brothers, “be willing to marry me?”
The men all stared at her with wide eyes.
“Mija, you can’t be serious?” Luis scoffed.
“I’m deadly serious, Luis,” Y/N said. “Unless I marry quickly, the local authorities will come down and take it all. I’ve already been threatened by Sheriff Pierce.”
“What? When did this happen?” Bucky piped up, his eyebrows furrowing.
“A few weeks ago, when Papa’s health declined suddenly and I went to get the doctor in town,” she sighed, remembering that horrible day. “He made it very clear where he stands with women having rights around here and how he would love to take this land for his own. He implied he would force me to marry him or lose everything,” she shuddered.
All the men suddenly were in a ruckus, yelling and swearing about the sheriff and inheritances and the law. Bucky sat quietly as he thought over the situation, then watched Y/N carefully. She let the others have their moment of upset. She sat rigid in her chair, the picture of poise and propriety, the opposite of how she normally would be. Obviously the entire predicament she found herself in was weighing heavily on her and she didn’t know how else to handle it than to put on a brave face and act like the lady her father always chastised her about being, rather than the farmer she turned out to be.
“Callate!” Luis suddenly yelled, overpowering the others. They all quickly sat and calmed down. “Y/N,” he turned to her. He reached for her hand again, which she gladly gave. “Are you sure there are no other options? Anything in the law that could help?”
“I have no options,” Y/N said drearily, her eyes blinking rapidly so as not to let anymore tears fall. “I am a woman. What I want doesn’t matter.”
Luis held her hand in both of his, his sad eyes staring at their conjoined hands and nodding his head in understanding. There were a few moments of silence and then…
“I’ll do it,” Bucky spoke. Y/N’s head whipped back to him, her eyes wide and her mouth dropping open slightly. “I’ll do it,” he leaned forward as he looked at her. “I promised your father to always keep you and this land safe, so that’s what I’ll do. We’ve all worked too hard and come too far to lose it all now,” the men all agreed. “And you deserve a better marriage than to an old, awful man like Pierce,” he added. “I can’t say I’m the perfect man by any means,” Bucky held his hand out to take her other hand, “but I will try to be the best husband, partner, and friend that I can be.”
Y/N’s eyes welled up with tears again, this time she let them fall as she squeezed his hand. “Thank you,” she whispered.
“This is strange, but I think it’s the best option we have,” Luis agreed, making the others agree as well.
Y/N grinned, freeing her hands from Luis and Bucky’s grasps to wipe her eyes. “It’s settled then. Bucky, we will go into town tomorrow and get that done and make sure everything is in your name before Pierce finds out Papa has passed,” Bucky nodded. “As for the rest of you, let’s divide up your inheritances.”
As the day wore on and each man got his gift all that was left was Bucky. He had been patrolling the perimeter as he normally did, helping with the animals when needed, and upon hearing the bell rode back in for dinner. Y/N had laid out a spread for the men, a glass of her father’s favorite whiskey at each place setting in his honor. When they had sat, said grace, and began to eat Y/N had let Bucky finish before pulling him aside.
She led him to her father’s study and closed the door behind them then walked to the wall that had his guns displayed. “Buck,” she motioned to him to join her. He walked to the wall, admiring all the different kinds of rifles and handguns he had. “He wanted you to have these,” she gestured towards the rack along the left side of the display.
“All of these?” he asked incredulously. “What am I gonna do with this many?”
Y/N laughed, “I don’t know. Collect them, sell them, I don’t really care. But he did want you to have something else of a more personal nature,” she walked over to one of the bookshelves, her fingers running along a stack until she found the title she wanted. She pulled it off the shelf and brought it back to him. Bucky eyed the book, not recognizing the title. Y/N opened it, and he saw that it was actually a box made to look like a book to keep treasures safe. Inside was a woman’s wedding ring, a man’s wedding band and a pocket watch.
“The second page of the will was mostly for me, with a few extra pieces for you,” she said quietly. “These were my mother’s and father’s rings,” she explained. “In the will he said how he always considered you to be the son he never got to have.”
Bucky felt a lump in his throat form at her words, his eyes suddenly feeling hot with unshed tears. He gulped to try and relieve the ache in his chest as he watched Y/N pull the pocket watch out.
“This is for you,” she handed it to him gingerly. “It’s made of the finest silver and gold that could be found along the East coast at the time when he purchased it. He wanted you to have it to do with as you please. He also said that the man to marry me would have his ring, and I would have my mother’s.” She pulled the man’s wedding band out and held it out to him. “I know that this is a marriage of convenience, that we may love each other in a sense, but that falling in love may take some time. I just hope that we can create a happy marriage and maybe someday a happy family together, and work together to keep this land and our familia together as well.”
Bucky smiled softly at her. You silly woman, he thought. He had been in love with her for years at this point, almost from the moment he’d first set foot on the farm when her father first hired him as security. He was a little bit older than her, so he just assumed anything like that would never happen. But being out in these Oregon forests and farmlands far away from other towns made it hard to find someone worthwhile to court or marry. Now he had a chance to love her, though he’d still have to be patient for her to catch up to him and his feelings.
“Thank you, Y/N,” he said, taking the ring and trying it on his left ring finger. “Ah, it fits,” he said gleefully.
“Oh good, I was worried,” Y/N giggled as she admired the ring on his hand.
“You should try yours,” he suggested, reaching for the ring in the box. She let him take it out then held out her left hand to him. He slid the ring onto her ring finger easily. “Perfect fit,” he smiled, watching her. Y/N gazed at her mother’s ring on her finger, the diamond shining in the firelight. “Beautiful,” he breathed.
Y/N smiled and then looked back at him. “Thank you, Bucky, for agreeing to this. I know I’m no great beauty but–”
“What?” he asked incredulously. Y/N looked shocked at his outburst. “You don’t think you’re beautiful?”
“Oh, well…” she sputtered, unsure of what to say. “I mean, I’m not ugly, I just–”
“Y/N, you are one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever laid my eyes on,” Bucky said so seriously it made her heart flip. “Don’t ever think of yourself as anything less. Yes I agreed to marry you because it will help keep the farm in your family, and keep us employed, but I also did it because I think you’re amazing, beautiful, kind, determined, and if I ever got the privilege to be married I would want it to be with you.” Y/N let out a breath she didn’t realize she was holding at his admission. “I am honored to be your husband, do you understand me?”
Y/N nodded, her shock still evident on her face. “I understand.”
“Good,” Bucky said with finality.
They stared at each other, both of them realizing just how close they’d gotten during the conversation. Y/N cleared her throat and took a subtle step back. “Well, um…thank you, again,” she mumbled. “I’m not very good with my words, but I hope you know that if I have to get married, I’m happy that it’s with you.”
Bucky smirked at her awkwardness. “Well, I guess I’d better head out then. Gotta get some sleep, it’s my wedding day tomorrow,” he said wryly.
Y/N snorted at his tone. “Yes, I suppose I should get some rest as well. It just so happens to be my wedding day tomorrow.”
Bucky hummed, deciding to try his luck and taking a step towards her. “Does the groom-to-be get to have a goodnight kiss?”
Y/N gave him a wide-eyed look as she fought a smile on her lips. “Isn’t there some kind of bad luck for doing things with the bride-to-be the night before her wedding?”
“Not that I’m aware of,” he stepped closer, making her back up against the desk.
Y/N craned her neck as she stared up at him. “I’ve never, um…kissed anyone before,” she breathed.
“That’s okay, sweetheart,” Bucky leaned his face closer, nuzzling his nose against her nose.
“Sweetheart?” Y/N questioned him, her hands catching herself against the desk before she lost her balance.
“Can I kiss you…sweetheart?” Bucky ghosted his nose along her cheek. “Just to hold me over til tomorrow?”
Y/N huffed a laugh against his cheek. “O-okay,” she stuttered.
Bucky smirked at her again, her nervousness making him feel a strange sense of excitement. His lips skimmed her cheek until he hovered over her mouth. Y/N’s eyes were darting from his lips to his eyes and back, her breathing becoming heavier. Bucky finally pressed his lips against hers gently. He didn’t push for anything further, keeping his hands to himself, just enjoying the moment that he finally got to do what he had always wanted to do with her. Y/N’s eyes fluttered shut when his lips met hers, her lips moving softly against his after a moment of her freezing in place. Bucky pulled away first, still hovering close to her face as her eyes slowly opened.
“Goodnight, sweetheart,” he whispered, giving her nose a quick peck before he backed away.
Y/N was still holding herself up against the desk, staring at him in disbelief. “Goodnight, Bucky.”
Bucky smirked at her again then nodded his head as he walked away and out of the study. He had to get the horses prepped and the wagon ready for tomorrow, then get washed up. It was his wedding day, after all.

alejandro gripping his hips, running his thumbs along the soft lines 😩🤌🏽 bro DEFINITELY stares hard asf just absolutely mesmerized by the muscular dips in rudy’s damn back that accentuate the fucking ink when he’s railing the hell out of him—
SOMEBODY SEDATE ME!!
Ah for fuck sake, i wasn't supposed to be any horny today.
Soft moaning spread through thick air filled with smell of sweat, strawberry lubricant and warmth radiating from Rodolfo's body. God forbid, the way he looks at Rudy. His Rudy. Ah, his pretty husband with new, just as pretty as him, tattoo on his lower back, laying on his torso, ass up before Alejandro, biting on fluffy pillow under his head.
Alejandro can't keep his hands off of pattern, tramp stamp Rodolfo told him. Its beautiful, thin and elegant looks so damn good on muscular back curving at sides, folding as the hip bone starts. Red lines give such contrast to even his tanned skin.
“Aleja-.. Alejandro!” his lover squeaks as his fingers again hit his prostate, continuing to abuse it. He can't help but stare, eat Rudy with his eyes to last bite, trace it with rough, calloused finger pads. “'mon... Ale', move please!” he begs, gripping on ruined sheets with such strength it threatens to rip them again. He beggs so nicely, desperation is thick in voice, staying still despite being in such position for a long time. He deserves a treat.
“ You look beautiful, love. I can't take away my eyes off of you. Think you can take me now? ”

Borowski Legacy - 1920
Amelia feels like a watermelon. She's barely at the final stretch of this pregnancy and she's already ready for it to be over.
Then she hears a knock at her door.
And sees a face she didn't think she'd ever see again.
"Amelia-" Olive says before the woman cuts her off with a swift kick.
Just because she's pregnant doesn't mean she's going to let this tramp take AJ!
"Amelia!" Olive stops her. "I'm not hear to take Raymond away from you-"
"Abel Junior."
"What?" Olive asks.
"AJ is his name. What the hell do you want?" Amelia sneers.
"Please, Amelia. Let me come inside. Ecplain everything to you. Please, I'm begging."
Amelia sighs. Why should she give this woman a chance? She caused the death of her brother!
But God, Amelia is so tired of being alone.
She lets Olive inside.
"So. What is it?" Amelia says shortly.
Olive heaves a sigh. "I'm im hiding, just like you. After you killed my husband-"
"He deserved it," Amelia interrupts.
Olive rolls her eyes. "I am not saying he did not. But I did steal his family's wealth. A lot of it. Then I came here to find my baby. Amelia, please. I know you loathe me. But I'm in hiding. You know what they will do to me if they found out? Worse than what the law would do to you! Please, just let me stay in your home. I shall cook, clean, and take over Raymond- I mean, AJ's care. Please, Amelia. I'm begging you."
Amelia just laughs.
"Why shouldn't I just send you on your way? Especially after what you did to my brother."
Olive is on the brink of tears. "I swear I did not send for his death, Amelia. That was Jerry, I swear. I had nothing to do with the matter. I loved Abel. I did not want to admit because at the time I loved money more. Now that I have all the money I could wish for... I am still unhappy, Amelia. I am so awfully lonely. I madr a mistake, rejecting your brother. But please, I will do anything. Don't make me go back out on the streets."
Amelia hates this woman, but she knows how she feels. Amelia was just as unhappy.
"Fine. But you are doing all the housework. And the cooking."
Olive claps her hands together.
"Oh, thank you, Amelia! I am forever in your debt, thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Amelia rolls her eyes. "Yeah, sure."
Things are silent between them for a moment.
Olive breaks the silence. "Maybe we could even be girl friends."
Amelia laughs. "You are quite the comic, Olive."
Olive rolls her eyes. More silence. She breaks it again.
"Can I see him?"
Amelia quirks her eyebrow, "Huh?"
"Can I see my baby? I have not seen him in so long... you do not know what that does to a mother. Not yet, anyways."
Amelia huffs. "Fine. I will bring you to him."
Before they get up, Olive says, "Amelia Borowski with child. I thought I would never see the day. Is Sonny the father?"
"Shut up." Amelia shuts her down.

Suds cover your hands, foaming over your skin and making it incredibly hard to grip the mug you're washing. You manage to rinse it before it can slip and shatter in the sink, and you hook it over the drying rack.
It's one of Aaron's favorites, a '#1 Dad' mug that Jack had gifted him for fathers' day. You're not sure he'd ever forgive you for breaking it, even if you bought him a new one from the dollar store the very next day.
You hear your husband's footsteps from down the hall just as your fingers hook around the edge of a bowl you'd had cereal in hours earlier. The milk is cemented to the ceramic but you scrub it out in no time, feeling Aaron's hands wind around your waist just as you prop it up to dry.
"Need any help?" He asks, voice low and slightly raspy. You gather that he's been napping, probably a product of the case he'd returned from yesterday after dark.
"I'm okay," You shake your head, rinsing the soap off of your hands before it starts to itch, "There's not too much to do."
He hums appreciatively at your gesture, normally the one to do the dishes. You don't mind picking the chore up for him, though, not when he looks like he'll be knocked over by a small dog. He needs his sleep, and you can wash a few dishes for it.
Before you can reach for another bowl his hand reaches for yours and this thumb brushes over the skin at the base of your ring finger. It clears away the few remaining bubbles there and reveals your tattoo, not one you've kept secret intentionally but one you've never happened to reveal.
"What.." You can hear the frown in his voice, "Babe, did you get a new tattoo?"
"Not new," You shut the water off, pulling the towel from over your shoulder and patting your hands dry, "I got it, like, three years ago."
"I've never seen it before," He challenges you, one eyebrow raised. His dark eyes are skeptical as they rove over the 'A.H' inked into your skin.
"That's 'cause my ring covers it," You snatch your wedding band up from where it's laying on the counter, safe from the soapy mess in the sink. You slip it over your finger, perfectly covering his initials.
"I don't understand," His brows furrow now, "Why'd you get a tattoo that's always covered?"
"It's not," You remind him, nudging your ring off of it, "Remember that one summer where Jack always wanted to go to the pool?"
"Yeah," He hums, eyes still glued to your finger.
"Well I didn't want to lose it so I left it home," You explain, toying with the diamond on the band, "But there were a few.. incidents. People not knowing I was married. After the third time I said 'fuck it' and got your initials tattooed."
He stays silent, and all you feel is the press of his lips against your cheek, feather-light. It's sweet, it's sincere, and it warms your heart, a similar rush of heat as when you'd dunked your hands into the dish water.
"It's like a permanent ring," He muses, voice still set at a calm murmur. You nod, tipping your head back to nudge your nose against his cheek.
"You should get one too," You giggle, already excited to hold his hand while he sits in the chair, "Maybe across your forehead, though. And it should be my face, not just my initials."
"Deal," He teases, arms tightening around your waist, "But the next tattoo you get has to be a tramp stamp of my handprint."

Forestborn By Elayne Audrey Becker
One
I find her deep in the Old Forest, facedown in the dirt.
Sharp pain needles my palms where I’ve balled my fists so tight, the nails have carved half-moon marks into the skin. Snaking across the twig-strewn ground, gnarled roots press against my boots like a warning as I roll the young woman onto her back. Best to be sure.
No, she is certainly dead. Cold, stiff, and hungry like the rest; even with forest debris masking much of her shirt, the threadbare cotton dips in unmistakable rivulets across her bony frame. I swallow my disappointment and push her eyelids shut, wanting to spare her kin the sight of those empty, pointless eyes.
“Sorry,” I murmur, sitting back on my heels. “I’m guessing you didn’t deserve this.”
Around us, the trees lean inward and down with ominous uniformity, leaves and branches straining against their holds, drawn to the dead woman as if tethered by ropes. The sway, the humans call it. I ignore the prickling in my belly. They’ll straighten out soon enough when the magic leaves her body.
With a final nod, I push to my feet and wend my way back to the forest’s edge. It’s a close wood, with broad oaks in summer bloom crowding the grassy floor, their leafy canopy admitting shafts of sunlight that glitter like crystal chandeliers. All in all, too peaceful a setting for someone driven to madness to die alone. I breathe it in deep to savor the scent while I can, grateful that for whatever reason, these trees never seem drawn to the magic in my own blood. I’ve had enough of vengeful wilderness to last a lifetime.
“Well?” Seraline asks, her knuckles nearly white where they clutch the hem of her shirt.
I shake my head. “Dead.”
Her shoulders sink. Though Seraline is sturdy as iron when she’s in her aunt’s tannery, shaping leather into draft horses’ yokes, standing a determined two paces behind the tree line now, she seems shakeable as snow.
“Come on,” I say, nodding to the stony town just across the open fields. “You’re going to be late.” I don’t ask if she plans to examine the body for herself. Seraline may have insisted on coming as a show of support, but our friendship has many limits, her discomfort with the dead and dying the least of them.
After a brief hesitation, Seraline falls into step at my side, sweeping her seeing stick across the ground in broad strokes. “Poor thing.”
I nod, my jaw clenched tight.
This time of year, the late summer air hangs heavy even in the early morning, enough that the back of my neck is already slick with sweat. The barley fields remain mercifully empty as we pick our way through the dusty rows, but still I plow forward with my head down and shoulders bent, half from habit and half spurred by the hour. Seraline isn’t the only one who’s running behind.
“Will you not come with us?” she asks, her head tipping to the side as we near the town. “Aren’t you due back in Roanin, anyway?”
“I can’t,” I reply, making it sound like an apology. I’m not really sure why we still play this game when we both know it’s futile. “I have a few things to take care of first.”
“Today of all days,” she snorts.
“You know how it is.” In truth, I’d give my right arm to stay away from the capital today. But there’s no help for it.
“Her husband deserves to know,” Seraline adds after a while. “The two of them were inseparable.”
“He will know. The trail wasn’t hard to follow.”
Seraline is always trying to persuade me to talk to the deceased’s families. She believes I have a softer manner than many in uniform, and once she even called me heartless for refusing. That time hurt the most. But it isn’t my job to report any deaths I uncover to next of kin. Only to the king. And it’s not like she’s stepping up to volunteer, anyway.
Briarwend is a humble farming town that stretches all of three streets, a collection of squared off stone shops that deal in necessity rather than charm. Its weather-worn residents are the same. When I began seeking intel here four years ago, long days tending the surrounding fields made the people lazy and open over a couple of pints. Lately, they’re just hungry, poor soil and rising taxes leaving gaping holes that only tempers seem to fill.
Each night under dwindling lamplight and over stained, sticky tables, the pub dwellers deal out anger and judgment like tossing seeds across the earth. The battered forest walker I helped home last night is not the only magical person I’ve found bleeding on cobbled streets. The humans’ anger is growing fists.
Seraline’s family is fixing their horse’s harness to an old wooden cart when we reach their cottage home. Most others have long since departed.
“Where have you been?” her mother demands, tightening the leather straps. The roan mare stamps a hoof, ears flicking nervously in my presence. “We should have left hours ago!”
“Lela needed my help. And you’re not ready, anyway.” Seraline shrugs.
“Nor are you. Breakfast is gone, so you’ll just have to wait. Go get changed.” She studiously avoids my eye, as if I’m not even there.
Seraline bids me farewell with a light touch on the shoulder, which causes her little sister to quickly interlace two pairs of twisted fingers and pull them apart. The sign to ward off bad fortune.
“You shouldn’t indulge my sister,” the dreadful Arden says once she’s gone, stomping over and swiping a greasy hand across his forehead. By far the weakest sibling in this family of four. “Seraline is delicate. She can’t be tramping about the kingdom with the likes of you.”
Which is ironic, really, since he was eager enough to sidle close last year, when he thought empty flattery might earn him a kiss. That was before a too-often empty belly soured his tongue, before he learned who and what I was. And though I truly could not care less what this boy thinks, I’m dismayed to find my stomach still burns with anger and something close to shame. My gaze drops to his pant leg, which bears splotches of dried blood from the night before.
“Problem?” Arden sneers, white skin burned red from long days in the sun.
A slow tingling feeling bubbles up from my core, threads of numbness that tiptoe across my arms and legs. I force myself to breathe deeply, to beat the threads back. “I know it was you,” I mutter.
He traces his chapped lips with two fingers, beady eyes darting to his mother before he leans forward, his smile stiffening. “You know nothing,” he hisses.
“You forget I have certain resources at my disposal.” I raise a hand in front of his flaking face, where my nails have sharpened into claws. “And that I know where you live.”
I stare until a satisfying trace of fear tinges Arden’s expression before stomping away toward the town’s single inn, which is little more than a guesthouse with four creaking rooms. If Helos were here, he would tell me to not take the bait, that I’m better than that. What he never seems to understand is that I’m not better than anything at all.

“Helmut!” you whine from your place on the bed. The pillows behind your back were almost too soft.
“Just another minute, Schatz,” he calls back from down the hall.
Your husband requested that you stay in bed while he busied himself with something in the kitchen. You weren’t entirely sure what he was up to, even with the clanking of pots and pans, but he was insistent that you stay put under the blankets. He had nearly come running to push you back into bed when you got up to use the ensuite bathroom. At your look of annoyance he retreated, but not until after he’d seen you under the covers once again.
After the first 15 minutes you grew bored. You cracked open the novel you were reading, following the lines on the page as you rubbed your growing stomach absentmindedly. Six months into your pregnancy and the Baron was becoming more attentive every single day. It would be overbearing if it wasn’t so cute. Deep down you knew that it was just his fears of losing another child that made him so worrisome at times. When you had asked him about it he just replied that he wanted to make sure that he didn’t miss anything.
Finally, you hear him walking the hallway to your shared bedroom. He bumps the door open with his hip; in his hand is a tray. Helmut sits on the bed beside you. He places the tray on your lap. Thick, cinnamony slices of french toast are stacked tall, plump and juicy berries line the plate dusted with a hint of powdered sugar. There is even a cup of cherry blossom tea, his, and now your, favorite. Everything smells heavenly.
“Hel - what’s all this for?” You can’t hold back the grin on your face.
“Breakfast, of course.”
You huff a small laugh, “well I can see that. I didn’t know you knew how to make french toast.” The tea is the perfect temperature when you take a sip.
“I didn’t. But with patience and experience, Draga, a man can do anything.”
Cutting into a piece of the toast you take a bite. You moan around the flavors that burst on your tongue. The next piece you feed to your husband, not wanting him to be neglected of his culinary genius.
“Try the berries, they are fresh from Marta’s garden,” he offers, holding up a strawberry to your lips. You take the fruit, your tongue brushing his fingertips lightly. Marta, your housekeeper, had a greenthumb and was always supplying you with fresh fruits and vegetables. In return, you would invite her to dinner once a week in thanks.
The two of you ate, savoring each morsel. When the food was gone you sat in companionable silence for a few moments. “Thank you for breakfast,” you offer. His hand rested on top of your bump, thumb brushing along the fabric of your shirt. “You are such a good husband, you know that?”
“This is not about me, Draga. Today is Mother’s Day. You deserve to be treated to the finest of things, as my beautiful wife and the mother of my child.”
Heat rises in your cheeks. You look away, suddenly bashful. “Hel… I don’t think it counts until after the baby is born,” you laugh.
“Nonsense. You are carrying our baby, that makes you a mother. If I had it my way you would be brought breakfast in bed every morning, wear only the finest silks and jewels and furs, I would give you everything that you could ever desire. You would live like the Baroness you are.” He says it so matter-of-factly.
Shaking your head with silent laughter you hook your finger into his collar, pulling him down for a soft kiss. His lips taste of the sweet berries and the spice of the french toast. “How about instead I just be your loving wife-” you scrunch of your nose “-who would like some more strawberries.”
With a small bow Helmut gets off the bed to fetch you more berries; “your wish is my command.”

Aim for the Sky Part 1 | Rooster x Reader
Summary: Deployments feel longer when you're alone and pregnant. You know Bradley wants to be home for all of the milestones, but you also know he trusts you to take care of yourself. That trust goes both ways when it feels like ages since you've heard from him.
Warnings: Fluff, angst, swearing, pregnancy
Length: 4000 words
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Female Reader
Aim for the Sky masterlist. This was written to accompany my series Is It Working For You? along with a bunch of my one-shots and other series, but it can be read on its own! Check my masterlist for the reading order. Gorgeous banner by @mak-32
You hadn't spoken to your husband in more than three weeks. Not once since he left on a deployment of undetermined length. When you were on base, tucked away in your office or working on a project in the lab, it wasn't so bad. You could almost get lost in the idea of heading home to start dinner and find him working on a project. You could nearly pretend he'd be ready to wrap you up in his arms and ask about your day. But you knew better than to drift all the way into that daydream, because he wasn't there, and you didn't know when he would be back.
At least Tramp greeted you with excitement when you walked in each day, but you suspected that was partially because he knew you were about to feed him. Your friends kept you busy on the weekends, and Jake stopped by the Craftsman on occasion with Jeremiah when Cat needed a break. Today, he even made a comment about the multitude of pallets lined up on your driveway that prevented you from pulling all the way up to where you usually parked.
"When Rooster gets back, I'll give him a hand building that jungle gym," Jake drawled as you handed a cracker to Jeremiah. "We'll have it finished in a weekend, and then Jer can test it out."
You watched Jake kiss Cat's son on the cheek as you said, "He can teach the Nugget all about the slide and the swings when the time comes." Your belly felt a little tender as you ran your hand over your shirt, loving the feel of the bump beneath your fingers. You were nineteen weeks along, and when Bradley left, you'd still looked just bloated. Now you were starting to get round in all the places that made you excited for what was to come. And after so many weeks of non stop nausea and vomiting, you were happy you could finally eat.
Jake snorted. "You've taken to calling the baby a Nugget, too? Thought that was just your husband."
You rolled your eyes and flicked his arm. "Maybe I miss him, okay? Like a lot." Your voice shook even though you were trying for a teasing tone, and Jake's features softened. You quickly asked, "Are you two staying for dinner?"
Jeremiah was such a sweet toddler, and you were so lonely today, you were hoping Jake would say yes. But he kissed you on the cheek before he said, "Not tonight. I told Cat we'd be home by six."
You just nodded, once again afraid your voice might shake. You'd be fine; it wasn't like you needed someone with you all the time. It wasn't like you couldn't get through the night.
Once they were gone, you made yourself some dinner and ate it while you stood at the kitchen counter. Occasionally you dropped some bites for Tramp who snapped them up out of the air before anything ever hit the ground.
"Don't tell your dad that this is the reason you beg at the table," you muttered as he sat next to your foot and wagged his tail wildly. Even the veterinarian didn't know exactly how old he was, but he still seemed like a puppy sometimes. You could already picture him and the baby playing together.
Your gaze caught on the newest set of ultrasound photos which you had stacked up at the end of the kitchen counter. The appointment with Dr. Morris made you cry afterwards, because Bradley wasn't there to gush over the baby. You drove his Bronco that day, and you sat quietly trying to compose yourself while enveloped in his smell. He had some older ultrasound images tucked in the sun visor, and you wanted him to see the new ones so badly, you ached.
"I'm going to get ready for bed," you groaned at Tramp even though it was still early. You took a bath with the floating thermometer Bradley bought for you to use while pregnant. You drank a can of ginger ale instead of your preferred pink champagne, and you listened to one of the playlists he made for you.
When you were climbing in bed, you took the note he left you from your nightstand. It was folded into a paper airplane that looked exactly like his tattoo. He'd even written Baby Girl on it like always. Very carefully, you unfolded it and read the short message that you already had memorized, because it just meant something more in his handwriting.
I love both of you so much, sometimes I feel like I'm dreaming. Nothing could be this good. There's no way I get to return home to everything I ever wanted. I don't know when I'll be back, so I need you to take care of yourself and the Nugget until I can take over my duties again. I won't be gone a minute longer than I need to be.
You shut your light off before your tears could fall, and Tramp snuggled in next to you. When you thought about Bradley, you pictured him in his bunk. Maybe he was alone. Maybe he was with Reuben. Maybe he was rooming with a different officer. But it didn't matter, because you could easily imagine him practically spilling out of the narrow bed, one knee bent with the pink and blue notebook propped up while he wrote to the baby.
When your phone started ringing in the pitch darkness, you jumped, practically falling out of bed as you reached for your lamp and phone at the same time. It was a FaceTime call. It said restricted caller. You screeched his name, far too loud for your voice which has been resting just seconds ago. You shoved your glasses into place so you could see him, and shouted, "Bradley! Roo! Are you okay?"
"Hey, Baby Girl," he crooned, and his smiling face came into focus. You practically dropped your phone as he said, "I'm fine. Sorry it's so late."
You felt giddy laughter bubbling up inside you; the idea of your husband apologizing for calling and making your whole week was absurd. "No, no, no, this is perfect," you insisted. "This is great.
Bradley laughed and said, "I miss you so fucking much. Wish I was in bed right there with you."
"Me too," you replied. "It got chilly here tonight, and Tramp isn't as snuggly as you are." You missed his warmth and voice so much. It was almost Halloween, and the nights felt way too long.
His voice was just a whisper as he said, "Tell me about the Nugget."
Your smile felt overpowering. "Dr. Morris said the Nugget looked great when I was there two weeks ago."
"Two weeks ago," he groaned, rubbing his hands along his face. "Sweetheart... I already missed so much." When he looked at the screen again, you were out of bed and on the move. "Where are you going?"
You flipped on the hallway light and said, "To get the ultrasounds to show you. I left them on the kitchen counter."
You propped up your phone and held up one of the photos so he could see the baby. "There's my Nugget," he said, voice thick with emotion as you held up a second image. "Fucking cutest baby I've ever seen."
You couldn't help but laugh, feeling better than you had in weeks. "I liked this one the best. I think it looks like the baby is waving hello."
"Shit," he gasped. "You're right. I can't wait to wallpaper our bedroom with copies of these."
You pulled the ultrasound away and gasped, "You're probably not even joking."
"I'm definitely not even joking."
You leaned on the counter and got a little closer to your phone as you whispered, "Another week or so, and I can go in for an anatomy scan."
Now you felt guilty as he nodded with his lips pressed together. "You get to find out if the Nugget is a boy or a girl."
Tears stung your eyes. You could already imagine him holding the baby in his arms, loving him or her no matter what. "Yeah," you said with a nod. "But I don't really want to do that without you there too."
It took him a moment to respond. "I wish I could get home in time to hold your hand and find out in person. But you know I don't care one way or the other. The only nice thing is that we can start narrowing down baby names soon. I actually wrote down a few that I kind of like in the Nugget notebook earlier."
Your heart swelled. "I can't wait to read all of your notebook entries. And if you're not home for my next appointment, I'll be practically vibrating with anticipation until I get to tell you if it's a boy Nugget or a girl Nugget."
You wanted to show him how your belly looked more curvy now, but when you and he both parted your lips to speak, you heard someone shouting in the same room as him on the aircraft carrier. Now your husband wasn't looking at you at all.
"Bradshaw! It's time. Get into your flight suit."
"Yes, Sir," Bradley said before glancing back down.
"You have to go," you sobbed, unaware that you were actually crying until you heard yourself.
"I do," he said quickly. "Right now. Listen, I love you. More than anything. You and the baby both, okay? I love you."
"I love you, too," you sobbed as your lips trembled. "So much."
"I'll be home soon," he told you earnestly. "I love you."
Then you were standing alone in your kitchen at 4:48 in the morning with tears streaming down your face. The abrupt end to the call set your nerves on edge just seconds after you had been feeling so good. You gripped the edge of your kitchen counter; that wasn't a regular call to order, that was the start of his mission you just witnessed.
There was no chance of you falling asleep again, so you let yourself cry while Tramp put his head down on your bare foot and licked your ankle.
-------------------------------------
Halloween came, and you could barely manage to give out candy to the neighborhood kids. You'd had Bradley with you for the previous two Halloween nights in a row, and this year you didn't even want to buy a costume without him. You were exactly twenty weeks along, approximately halfway through your pregnancy, but it was hard to be excited even as groups of kids ran up and down the sidewalk.
You sat on your porch and dropped goodie bags into pillowcases and plastic pumpkins while Tramp barked inside the house. You commented on all of the cute costumes. You cried a little bit. Your emotions were all over the place as you tried to imagine what it might be like going out to collect candy a year from now with your baby in a tiny costume.
When the trick-or-treating ended, you went inside and opened a miniature sized Hershey bar for yourself, and then you almost screamed. The chocolate fell to the floor as you reached for your belly. Tramp looked between you and the fallen treat as you sank down onto your knees.
"Oh my God," you gasped, eyes squeezed shut tight. You could feel the baby moving. It was kind of a wild fluttering sensation. You rubbed your palm against your shirt a little more, and the slight movement felt like a response. Your baby was right there. "Hi, little Nugget." Then you felt something like a soft thump.
You wished more than anything that Bradley was here to witness it. He was going to absolutely freak out when he got home. Then the intrusive thoughts arrived. If he got home. It had been another week and a half since that FaceTime call where he got cut off by a commanding officer. If his mission was completed, he should have called you back by now. But at least you didn't have a fleet admiral dialing your number.
You didn't move for a long time, not until the baby seemed to get into a cozy position where the movement slowed down and then stopped. When Tramp started sniffing around the candy bar, you crawled over to it and picked it up before he could get any ideas.
Time was simultaneously at a standstill and also moving too fast. In four weeks, it would be Thanksgiving and your first wedding anniversary. You'd been holding off making plans with your parents, because you didn't know what to do. You were already overdue for your anatomy scan, dodging phone calls from Dr. Morris's office when they told you that you absolutely needed to come in for your checkup. They were starting to leave you lengthy messages about how they needed to complete the full scan to be sure there were no underlying issues.
As you walked to your bedroom, you promised yourself you'd call tomorrow and schedule an appointment. Bradley would miss finding out if the Nugget was a boy or girl, but at least you'd get to see all ten fingers and all ten toes for the first time. You could reveal the news to Bradley when you got to talk to him. You would go to your appointment, because he trusted you to take care of yourself and the baby the best that you could.
------------------------------
The cafeteria was packed when you walked in with your uniform shirt untucked and your pants unbuttoned. You finally caved and ordered a maternity uniform last week, and Bickel let you cry in his office about how ugly it was before he sent you back to the lab. It should be arriving any day, but for now, you were making do.
When Nat saw you, she was on her feet heading your way immediately. "Your belly looks bigger!" she gasped, pulling you toward the table where she was sitting with Bob and Maria. "When's Rooster coming home?"
You shrugged miserably. "You think I know? I just work here."
Her laughter made you smile for the first time all day. Your nausea was back a little bit, and you were too afraid to even try to eat anything until you got home later tonight. When Nat scooted her tray closer to the edge of the table to make room for you, she asked, "Where's your lunch?"
You didn't want to lie, but you really didn't want them to pressure you to eat right now. "I think I'll just take something back upstairs with me." As you slid onto the empty spot on the bench, you asked, "Do you know if anyone has heard from Payback?"
You were met with shaking heads which didn't help your mood at all. What the hell was going on with this mission? Your tongue felt too thick, and your saliva practically made you gag as Bob said, "I thought they would have been home by now. Five weeks is a long time for a special mission."
Maria elbowed him in the side, but it's not like he was saying anything you weren't already thinking. This sickening feeling had been inside you for days where you were convinced something went wrong. You just couldn't fathom why you hadn't received a call yet.
"I know," you muttered. "It's okay." But you weren't actually sure if it was or not. It has been months since you had a panic attack where you had to spend a few hours with Dr. Genevieve, but you could feel it building up now. Worrying about Bradley and yourself and the baby all at the same time was mentally and emotionally exhausting.
You pretended to pick up a sandwich before heading toward the elevators in the lobby, and you stopped to throw up in the bathroom before you made it back to your office. Your anatomy scan was scheduled for Friday, almost three weeks after they originally wanted you to come in. If you were still feeling this anxious, you'd block off part of your schedule next week to visit Dr. Genevieve again.
Somehow, even though the only thing on your mind was talking to Bradley, you were shocked when your phone woke you up just before midnight on Wednesday evening. This time you rocketed to your feet as you yanked your phone free from the charger. It wasn't a FaceTime call. It said RESTRICTED CALLER. You braced your hand on your nightstand in the dark, and when you answered, you knew immediately that it wasn't your husband on the other end of the call.
"Hello? I'm calling on behalf of Lieutenant Commander Bradley Bradshaw," came a male voice in response, and then he was asking you to confirm your personal information.
"What happened?" you gasped once he established that you really were the one and only person on Bradley's contact list. "What happened to him?"
There was a soft hum from the man, and you wanted to jump through the phone and strangle him for his lack of response. Then, as you finally managed to turn on your lamp, he said, "It looks like his flight just took off out of Hong Kong."
"Flight?" you gasped. "He's in the air?"
"Yes. A commercial flight into San Diego. He should arrive Friday morning, and I can give you the details now so someone can arrange for a ride for him."
You were baffled as to why Bradley didn't call you himself, but if he was on his way home, you didn't care. And you weren't going to arrange for a ride for him. You were going to pick him up yourself. When you grabbed a pen from your nightstand, the only paper you could find was the love note he left for you, so you started writing the flight number on your arm instead. Then you gasped and almost dropped the phone when you ended the call. There was the slightest chance he would be back in time!
---------------------------
Bradley was exhausted. He knew he could sleep for two days, no problem. He would land in San Diego and hope you were there to get him, then he'd ask you if the baby was a boy or a girl, then he'd take you home and make love to you before falling the fuck asleep. He really wanted to start building the jungle gym playset, but that was just going to have to wait for another day.
It was Friday, or at least that's what he thought, and he wasn't sure how busy you had been at work, because he hadn't spoken to you in weeks. Maybe Bickel let you take the morning off. If Bradley didn't get to see you in baggage claim like he always had before, he was going to be so annoyed that he was delayed weeks longer than he should have been. This mission turned into a three part nightmare on the high seas, and all he wanted was his wife and his Nugget.
When his flight landed, he was up and out of his seat, ready to go. Of course he ended up lifting down carryon bags for a few older passengers and one woman who had two kids with her. Of course he knelt down to help someone find their reading glasses. But all he wanted was for this line of people to move it off the aircraft so he could get into the terminal and call you.
When you answered on the second ring, shouting his name into the phone, he couldn't help but smile. "I just landed, Sweetheart. Does that mean you're here to get me?"
"Yes! I'm in baggage claim! Hurry up!"
His whole body thrummed with need as he picked up his pace at the confirmation that you were here for him. "I'm coming as fast as I can," he promised, squeezing between two groups of people walking way too slowly. He wanted to know if you took the day off. There were a hundred questions circling his brain, but the first one that he needed an answer to was, "How's my Nugget?"
He could hear the smile in your voice as you said, "Your little Nugget is thriving, Roo. But get over here and see for yourself!"
"Baby Girl," he laughed, jogging a little faster. "I'm coming."
"Hurry," you whined, and he needed to give you what you wanted.
He bypassed the crowded escalator and took the stairs as quickly as he could, skidding around a corner as he turned toward baggage claim. "Almost there," he panted into the phone. And then he saw you and groaned, "Fuck," loud enough that a few people shot him nasty looks. "Holy shit, Sweetheart."
Bradley ended the call as you glanced around, and he stumbled when you finally spotted him. You were wearing a new dress. It was a pretty shade of green, and it was snug, hugging all of your curves. Hugging your bump. You had a bump. You looked so obviously pregnant to him, he was ready to crawl on his hands and knees and beg at your feet.... for what, he wasn't sure. But that's what his brain was barking at him to do right now.
"Roo!" you called out, prancing toward him in that tight dress and your boat shoes, and literally nothing felt better than being with you. As soon as you were in his arms, he was home. "Bradley," you moaned against his lips as his hands found your sides. You felt different in the best possible way. The swell of your belly wasn't huge yet, but it was definitely there. He could feel it. His growing baby.
God, you were kissing him just right, fingers threading through his hair as you rubbed yourself against him. "Jesus," he groaned into your mouth, but you kissed it away as he ran his hands along as much of your middle as he could reach. He couldn't help it; when you eventually broke the kiss to take a breath, he dropped to his knees in front of you.
Your fingers were still in his hair as you looked down at him in surprise. "Roo?"
He was kissing along that green fabric and rubbing his nose against that perfect, little bump. He knew you were twenty-two weeks along, and he knew what that meant. "Please, tell me," he rasped, stroking you gently with his thumb. "Please, Sweetheart. Is it a girl or a boy?"
Your softly parted lips and smile had all of his focus as he waited to hear you tell him what he'd been dying to know. "Oh," you whispered, pushing your fingers through his hair, leaving him in anticipation as your fingertips glided down his cheek. "I don't know yet."
"You don't?" he asked, brow creased in concern. But you just kept smiling as his heart pounded. "You don't know?"
"Nope," you replied easily. "My appointment is in an hour."
Bradley rocketed to his feet. "Are you serious?" he whispered, his voice a little harsh. "I didn't miss it?"
You kissed him softly as he collected you back in his arms. "You didn't miss it, Roo. I postponed it as long as I could. You're just in time."
"Hell yes!" he whooped, pumping one fist in the air as you giggled. "You waited for Daddy," he said, smiling down at your belly as he slowly walked you backwards. "That's my Nugget." You were looking up at him with trusting eyes as he pushed you back against a pillar next to the baggage carousel. "You said we have an hour?"
"Yes."
"Good," he murmured before his lips found yours, and his hands continued their excited exploration of your new curves.

“Does kissing me stop you from having bad thoughts?” Harry asked, voice muffled into the collar of Louis’ dress shirt. Louis chuckled at this. He trailed a hand down Harry’s back, feeling the muscles tensing along with his touch.
“I guess you can say that. You’re a good distraction.”
“Then I will be the best distraction.” Harry answered, pulling back and watched Louis’ lips unashamedly.
“Come distract me, then.”

Harry has been in love with Louis Tomlinson for four years, five months, and thirteen days.
Harry had fallen in love with Louis Tomlinson like how he’d seen in movies, and how he’d read in all the books he’d stolen from Gemma, headfirst and shameless. The only problem was, that in films and books, love was always either returned instantly, or else it took time for unrequited love to lose the first two letters, and since the first option was obviously not true, Harry decided he would wait for the second to become reality. And so Harry waited, three years, eight months, and four days, before his heart had been broken by a gentle rejection and a misplaced blowjob, before Louis and Gemma had packed up and gone to Manchester for university.

“Zayn,” he murmurs, quietly but desperately.
Knowing what to do immediately, Zayn discreetly glances behind them to scan the room. “Walking over,” he says, confirming Louis’ worst fears.
“Maybe he’ll just pass by without stopping,” Louis says, glancing at the tables next to them as if hoping to find some other group of friends Harry had in high school that he could possibly want to talk to.
Eyebrow arched and lips pursed, Zayn has the nerve to look amused. “He’s looking directly at us.”
“Cause a diversion,” Louis rushes through his teeth, panic clawing up his throat. He can’t look Harry in the face again. Not yet, maybe not ever.
Zayn rolls his eyes and grabs his hand, interlocking their fingers. “It’s now or never, dear.”

“Do you want to touch?” Harry asks, taking one of his hands off to tangle with Louis’. His open invitation finally drags Louis’ attention away from his baby and up to his face, blue eyes wobbly with emotions. It’s clear that he’s too taken to really form words, so Harry takes the initiative to press their laced hands against his shirt fabric, warmth from the skin radiating through.
Louis pushes his shirt up to his chest, taking Harry’s hand and pressing it to hold the fabric in place. His hands return to warm skin, palms even more scalding now that there’s nothing in between them. And then, as if that wasn’t enough for Harry’s heart to handle, Louis leans in, pressing his lips right above his belly button.
“Hi, baby,” he says, lips moving across his skin softly. “I’m your… I’m Louis.”
Or Harry is pregnant with a stranger’s baby and Louis doesn’t know. It’s a minor detail that Harry’s both living with Louis and in love with him. No big deal.

Harry didn't mean to fall in love with his best friend, and he definitely didn't mean to get pregnant. Despite that, it’s probably still the best thing that’s ever happened to him. And after that, well. It just kept getting better.

"C’mon Liam, are you really going to use this against me now? You know the kind of humans his kind is! You know very well why we hunt them!" Louis said, done with the conversation and walking down the hall.
"No! We hunt people who don’t care about others, and neither Harry nor anyone in his family is like that!” Liam exasperated, following behind. “Louis, it's been two weeks, don’t you wanna know how Harry is? Has this hatred taken over so fast?" Liam inquired, knowing the hit a nerve.
"You know what, Liam? I'm not going to have this conversation with you." Louis said decisively, turning his back to his friend ready to go to his class.
But life is never fair, is it? When he turned around he was face to face with Harry in the middle of the hallway. The two stared at each other. Do I hate him? Louis wondered as he watched Harry's eyes fill with tears and seem to be begging for something. He preferred to ignore the pang in his chest and the urge to comfort the boy in front of him. He lowered his head and continued on his way.

Harry nods, not trusting his words. Slowly, he crawls under the covers of his bed, all too aware that Louis is doing the same, so close to him. Initially, he faces his desk, not looking at Louis, but after a few minutes he gets uncomfortable and turns over. Now, he’s only a foot from Louis’ face, and Louis has turned around too.
He doesn’t think Louis is asleep already, and it's confirmed when Louis’ eyes blink open sleepily. Harry looks at Louis, and Louis looks at him. Really looks.
“Can you see me?” Louis whispers.
Harry doesn’t understand the question, not really, but nods anyway. “Yeah, I see you,”

Harry designs wedding cakes, so of course meeting blissfully happy couples every day is part of his job description. Unfortunately, it's caused Harry to perpetually hope each new day is the one he'll find love, too. That is, until Harry realises everything he's ever wanted is right under his nose in the shape of his best friend, Louis.
But predictably, Harry only comes to this epiphany when Louis starts seeing someone else. And this is not a John Hughes movie as far as Harry is aware. Everyone else is pretty sure, though.

Dear Niall,I was glad to have the chance to talk with you again at the AHA conference. Your idea that the Musee D’Orsay Tomlinson painting is in fact not a self-portrait is an intriguing one, and I may have discovered something that will have a bearing on that theory.
Some background: as you may remember, I’ve been researching for a book I’m writing about Harry Styles. I’ve been in communication with Styles’ last living descendant, who is in possession of a trunk that her family believed to have belonged to Styles himself. It held some personal items she presumes to be his, including two unmounted paintings and a small collection of letters.
Upon spending the last few days in Provins studying these items, I believe there to be a connection between Tomlinson and Styles, and I would very much like your opinion.
Are you up for a trip to France?

Maddie Fenton woke up on the worst day of her life with a headache. That wasn’t at all unusual, Jack’s snoring could be grating even when asleep. Combined with too many late nights in the lab, too much coffee and just general stress about her work and her kids... it seemed Maddie woke up with a headache more often then not. Jack was the early riser of the two of them so he was already awake and likely starting work in the lab. He’d knock on the kids’ doors to get them up but Danny always needed a special touch, or an aggressive shove, to get up.
Maddie got up and dressed and made her way downstairs, Jazz’s room was cracked and she heard her daughter bustling inside. Danny’s was still shut tight. She knocked forcefully on the door. “Danny honey, it’s 6:30, you need to start getting ready for school.” She got no answer but she didn’t always get one. She had a feeling it was going to be one of those mornings. Setting downstairs, she’d just started the coffee machine when the phone rang.
“Now who is calling at this hour?” Maddie asked herself, picking up the phone. “FentonWorks, this is Maddie Fen-”
“You tell my daughter to come home right this instant!” Pam Manson’s shrill voice came over the phone. Maddie winced and pulled the phone back from her ear. “And you tell her she can kiss that horrible death metal whatever concert she was going to on Saturday goodbye! I will not have my young, impressionable daughter thinking she can tramp around god knows where-”
“Pam, slow down,” Maddie interrupted, irate as always when dealing with the woman. “Sam isn’t here, I didn’t see her at all yesterday or today.” Or Danny, Maddie thought privately with a frown. Pamela’s fury and frustration was understandable in a way. Maddie also had no idea what her own child was up to most days.
“She’s not there?” Pam said quietly after a few moments of silence. “Are you sure?” She added a bit more frantically. “Because she’s not in her bedroom and her bed looks like she never slept in it. She’s not answering her phone but she sometimes doesn’t when she’s sees it’s-” Pam took a deep steadying breath. “Can you check and make certain she’s not there? I’m going to call Angela.” Pam hung up suddenly and Maddie pulled back and looked at the phone, biting her lip with nerves. The coffee maker screeching to life behind her startled her so much that she jumped.
“Goodness,” She said, setting the phone down and thinking. She was certain she hadn’t seen Sam. The last time she’d seen her son’s friend was the day before last when she and Tucker had dragged a very exhausted, bruised up Danny home. Took a fall down the stairs, they’d said, not explaining why their clothes were worn and hands scratched up. Frowning, she wandered to the top of the lab steps. “Jack, you haven’t seen Sam around, have you? Danny’s friend?”
“Sam?” She heard Jack shout back, he poked his head around the corner. “No, did she stay the night? By the way, did you move some of the weapons. I can’t seem to find a few of them...”
“Jack that’s not important right now, Pamela doesn’t know where she is,” Maddie said sharply. She felt a little bad watching as Jack’s face become pensive but she was too anxious herself to apologize. She turned and walked towards the upstairs steps. “I’m going to ask Danny.”
She can’t deny that a subtle little thrill went through her when she got onto the second floor landing and saw Danny’s door open. The sink was running in the bathroom and she knocked heartily on the door. “Daniel Fenton, Mrs. Manson can’t find her daughter and if I find you had her over without telling anyone you are going to be in so much-”
The door opened revealing Jazz with her eyes wide and a toothbrush sticking out of her mouth. “Waz goin on?” she asked around the brush. She took out the brush and spit out into the sink. “I poked my head into Danny’s room to wake him up but he wasn’t in there.” Her eyebrows furrowed, “they can’t find Sam?”
Feeling lightheaded, Maddie walked down the hall to Danny’s room to find no one there. She can’t put her finger on why but it didn’t just feel empty but vacant. Danny’s clothes weren’t on the floor, his desk was practically clear for the first time since they bought it. His bed was made just as she’d done it the morning before when she’d rousted her son. Distantly, she heard the phone ringing again but Maddie couldn’t bring herself to leave the deserted room.
Danny had several photos on his wall and desk, she couldn’t help but notice that two were missing. A framed photo of the entire Fenton family they’d taken last year for New Years and a particularly nice shot of Danny with his friends Jazz had snapped. They say in a crime scene, something is always taken and left behind. But why... The sound of footsteps approached her rapidly from behind.
“Mom,” Jazz with a small fearful little tone. She was holding the house phone in one hand and her cell in the other, Danny’s contact information open on her screen. It was just ringing through. “It’s Mrs. Manson, not only is Sam not at Tucker’s but... the Foleys can’t find him either. I... I told them we don’t know where Danny is at the moment. I’m trying to call but its just ringing and ringing...”
“Jasmine, calm down,” Maddie said, taking the phone away from her. “Keep trying his cell and go get your father. Pam, are you still there?” Maddie said speaking into the phone. She was met with tears on the other end.
“Where are they? How could this happen? Sammy... she has a sizable trust and could be a target for ransom but your boy and Tucker? It doesn’t make sense.” Pamela paused to take a few loud, sobbing breaths that pounded at Maddie’s headache like a jackhammer. “Unless they ran away but why? Samantha’s always been spirited but nothing like this... God, I need to call the police, we’ll be in touch.” She clicked off without another word.
“-swer your phone, please little brother. Please, I know. Know-know, I was waiting for you to come to me but now we can’t find you, Sam or Tucker and everyone’s freaking out and we just need to know that you’re all okay.” She heard Jazz speak quickly into her cell, curling in on it like she used to do with her old stuffed animals. Jack’s hands gripping her shoulders from behind, taking in the abandoned room just like she’d been.
“Mads,” Jack whispered, “where’d he go?”
Maddie would ask herself that same question in the coming days, weeks, months and years that would pass. Over the course of front page headlines and tv spots begging for information. When they found a large amount had been transferred out of Sam’s trust, when Tucker’s phone and computer was found broken in two near the dump by the interstate, when their weapons catalogue came up short. As more time passed, it became increasingly obviously the kids not only had left of their own volition but it had been a calculated, planned affair.
Maddie would lie awake late into the night and wonder where it all went wrong? What had she, or any of the grieving parents, done to warrant their children to up and leave in the middle of the night. Something had happened, something that had been under their noses, something they’d missed. And they were now paying for it.
Back in the present moment, with her husband’s warm hands on her shoulders, her daughter’s increasingly more frantic voice talking into Danny’s phone that just kept ringing and her headache pounding worse than ever, all she could do was moan. “I don’t know, they’re just gone.”
The worst day of her life was just getting started and was going to continue for a long, long while.

WayV Reactions: you get mad at them over something trivial
Pairing(s): WayV x mostly gn!reader (I think Kun's is the only one with a written female reader. The others should be gender neutral).
Genre: angst, fluff (happy ending)
Warnings: couples arguments, yelling, angry reader
Word Count: 3k
Author's Note: Thank you so much for the request!!! I had so much fun writing this, although I will admit I had to look up "trivial things to fight about" so nothing would be repeated lol! I have no idea why most of these take place in the kitchen lol, it just seems like a place of arguments. I hope this is what you wanted!! I hope you enjoy!! 💕💕

"How about Dandelion?" Kun asked from his spot on the couch, absentmindedly flicking through the large book of names clasped in his fingers.
An audible gasp left your lips. You turned, wide eyes to stare at him, completely flabbergasted.
"You want to name our daughter WHAT?" you snapped.
Dandelion? Of all the names in the big book, he had to choose the name of a damned weed!
Kun shut the book and turned to stare at you with an eyebrow raised, not expecting your tone to be as harsh as it was.
With you expecting a baby girl in a few months, you and your husband had set to attempting to pick out a name, which proved to be a little more difficult than you had anticipated. You just couldn't seem to agree on a name, which, until now, had been fine. You were both generally easy going people who hardly ever fought, so as your face flushed with anger, Kun was at a loss.
"I just thought it'd be cute," Kun defended, voice gentle.
You could tell he was trying not to anger you further, but you balled your hands into angry fists.
"Well why don't we just call her a useless weed and be done with it! See how that affects her mental health!" you yelled.
You didn't know why you were so angry, or why you were taking that anger out on your sweet husband who had done nothing but take care of you throughout your pregnancy.
You blamed your hormones.
"Babe, please calm down."
Kun's voice was gentle and soft as he reached out for you, and although you were still seething with anger, the second his arms wrapped around your middle, you could feel it dissipating, leaving you to apologize.
"Kun, I'm sorry for-"
"Shh, there's no need my love," he whispered.
How did you ever get so lucky.

Ten hardly ever got a day off. With WayV and the occasional comeback with NCTU, plus all the variety shows and vlives the boys did, you hardly got to spend time with him, but you knew what you'd gotten yourself into when you'd started dating. You knew nights together were going to be few and far between, so when he'd asked you over to the dorm one afternoon, you'd jumped at the chance, eager to see your boyfriend after so long. However, if you'd known what it would be like, you would have stayed home.
Ten's phone chimed again, not long after he'd placed it down in favor of wrapping his arm around you while the movie played on the tv. His phone had been going off every few minutes, and despite your sliding closer or attempting to distract him, he couldn't seem to stop from responding, spurring on the messages further.
You didn't question whether he was texting some tramp. You knew he'd never do that to you, plus, he was constantly showing you some funny photo or meme that Johnny had sent, making you chuckle, although you couldn't help but to resent Ten's tall friend for distracting your boyfriend.
Finally, as he removed his arm to grab his phone and text Johnny back, you snapped.
"Can you put the damn phone away! If I would have known you'd do nothing but text, I wouldn't have come!"
Ten paused mid text before dropping his phone on the couch.
"He's my best friend, (y/n)! I'm not just going to ghost him!"
You huffed.
"I'm not asking you to ghost him! I'm asking you to spend time with me without the phone!" you hissed.
Ten sighed and picked his phone back up. With a grumble, you got off the couch, preparing to go home, not wanting to watch a movie with your boyfriend if your boyfriend didn't want to be there with you. However, as you moved to grab your coat, he tackled you onto the couch, caging you in his arms.
"I'm sorry," he whispered. "I promise, for the rest of the day, it's just you and me. No more texting."
You looked at him skeptically, but as he held off his phone, switched off, you sighed and wrapped your arms around him.
"I missed you," you mumbled.
"I missed you too," he replied, kissing the top of your head.

You had never been the kind of person to rely on anyone. You liked doing things on your own, relying on no one, and thus, many of your friends labeled you "stuck in your ways" because, despite having a boyfriend who'd bend over backwards for you, you couldn't bare to let him do anything for you.
This had spurred on quite a few minor arguments, especially when said boyfriend was the worlds sweetest guy who just wanted you to rely on him for more than a warm chest to snuggle against.
"Why won't you let me help you?" he'd asked several times.
Your answer was always the same.
"Because I can do it on my own."
You never meant to make him feel dejected, but as you opened the kitchen cabinet to grab out your favorite coffee mug, you found that maybe, your boyfriend had a little more of a mean streak than you gave him credit for, and this morning, without your daily caffeine, it really pissed you off.
"Dong Sicheng!" you yelled, anger filling your veins.
Apparently, at some time during the night, your boyfriend had snuck out of bed and rearranged your cabinets, moving everything up one shelf higher, so now, instead of the highest self being the only vacant place, now the bottom shelf was vacant. You were decently tall, but you couldn't reach the highest shelf. You doubted anyone who wasn't 6 foot tall could reach, and of course, on the highest shelf, was all of your coffee mugs.
"Yes?" Sicheng asked from behind you.
You spun around in a whirl, his shirt, that fit you more like a dress, flowing out at the sudden movement.
"What the fuck did you do! Everything was perfect! I could reach everything! Why the hell did you move it!" you snapped.
You glared at him as he tried to hide a small smirk, leaning closer to the counter as he reached up, grabbing your favorite coffee mug, and placing it on the counter for you.
This only pissed you off more.
"What the fuck Sicheng!"
"You never let me do anything for you! The power goes out, you fix the fuse box. Your car breaks down, you take it to the shop. You want coffee, you grab the mug out of the cabinet. You don't let me do anything for you!"
You could see his point, you honestly could, and maybe that's why your fury died down a little.
"Sicheng, I'm independent. I don't need you to do anything for me. I can do it on my own."
"That's what you always say! But I'm your boyfriend! I want to do stuff for you!"
With a sigh, you shook your head. Maybe he was right. Relationships were about give and take, push and pull. He let you help him with things and you hadn't returned the favor. Maybe it was time to bend.
"Fine. Keep the mugs up there, but damnit Sicheng, when I call for you to get me a mug, you better come running."
With a smile, he leaned close to press a kiss to your lips.
"Promise. "

Having a live in boyfriend was fun, nothing you'd ever experienced before. Suddenly, you had someone to share your bed with, someone to cook for, someone to open pickle jars when you couldn't.
However, it also meant extra time cleaning. Especially when your boyfriend apparently didn't know the use of a welcome mat. Plus, he wasn't the cleanest person in the world, and that fact became evident as you walked into the kitchen to grab a drink and found two bottle caps and a candy wrapper sitting on the counter, forgotten.
"Seriously Yukhei," you muttered under your breath.
You threw the trash in the bin and opened the refrigerator, hoping for a nice glass of milk before bed. Your eyes landed on the milk carton. Happily, you lifted the carton out of the fridge only to realize that it was empty. You certainly hadn't been the one to place an empty milk carton back in the fride.
"Yuhkei!" You yelled to your boyfriend who was already cuddled up in bed.
You waited for him to make his way into the kitchen, but the longer you waited, the angrier you got.
When he did finally walk inside, he was met with your fixed glare.
"What'd I do?"
"First, you leave your trash on the counter, then you put an empty carton back in the fridge! Do you NOT know where the damn trash can is?!"
Yukhei raised his hands in defense.
"I forgot!" he whined.
You groaned. You'd definitely heard that one before.
"You always forget Yukhei! How hard is it to put your trash where it belongs!" you whine, glare still fixed on him.
"And... just so we're clear... an empty milk carton doesn't go back in the fridge?" he asked.
You threw the milk carton at his head, although you weren't planning on hitting him. As he ducked, the carton hit the floor. He was trying to be funny, and you hated to admit that it was working as a smile cracked across your lips.
"There it is! There's that beautiful smile I love!" he cooed, moving closer and wrapping his arms around your waist.
"Shut up Yukhei!" you grumbled, pushing against his chest lightly.
He wasn't having it. He pulled you closer and pressed a soft kiss to your lips.
"I promise I'll start putting my trash in the bin," he whispered.
You knew it was an empty promise. Tomorrow morning, you'd wake up to more bottle caps and candy wrappers on the counters. Yukhei could be infuriating. But you loved him despite his lack of cleanliness.

That was the sound you'd been hearing every ten minutes for the past hour as your husbands hand slammed into the alarm clock for the sixth time. You grumbled and rolled over, once again awoken by his horrible habits.
This wasn't unusual. Dejun tended to set 15 alarms before he'd finally get out of bed and start his day, which, by that point, was usually when your own alarm clock would start going off and you'd wake up groggy and cranky, having just lost an hour and a half of peaceful sleep because your husband coudn't seem to get his ass out of bed in the morning.
"Why do you need so many fucking alarms! It's fucking stupid! Just set it for the time you actually need to be up!" you growled, not opening your eyes as you buried your face in the pillow, hoping to get back to sleep.
"I can't wake up that fast," came his mumbled response.
You huffed. It was always the same answer, but it never made much sense to you. Why couldn't he just get out of bed like a normal fucking person.
Alas, you didn't respond as sleep once again tugged at your consciousness, lulling you back to sleep beneath the warm blankets before-
*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP*
"GET THE FUCK UP!!"
"Five more minutes," he grumbled.
Five more minutes and you'd have to hear the infuriating sound of that damned alarm clock?! Fuck that.
You had had enough. Your sleep was important to you and being woken up two thousand times with a damn alarm clock before your husband finally dragged his tired ass out of bed was not helping your sleep in any way.
In a fit of anger and irritation, you pressed a sock covered foot against the middle of Dejun's back and pushed, affectively kicking his body out of bed, his body hitting the cold ground with a thump before he knew what happened.
"Hey! What was that for!" he snapped.
"Your up now," you grumbled, rolling back over and pulling the blankets over your head.
You could hear him grumbling something along the lines of "why do I love your psychotic ass" before the shower turned on.

You let out a groan as the title of another horror movie appeared on the television screen as you cuddled next to your boyfriend. You hated horror movies, a fact he knew well. The ones that didn't make you have nightmares were generally so silly and irritating you'd spend the entire moving staring at the time. Your boyfriend, on the other hand, absolutely loved horror films, so it shouldn't have come as a surprise when you sat down for your weekly movie night at his place and found a horror movie coming on, which wouldn't have been an issue if you hadn't watched horror movies the last five weeks in a row.
"Can't we watch something else," you complained.
"It's just one move (y/n), you'll be ok."
You groaned. He never listened, too enthralled in his own excitement for the movie.
You didn't have a problem with the fact that he liked this genre, but he could just as easily watch it with Ten or YangYang, or, if he really wanted to torture his leader, Kun. You, on the other hand, somehow always seemed to get stuck watching them.
"We've watched these five weeks in a row," you whined.
"Shh."
That was the last straw. He wasn't even willing to listen to you!
With a huff, you got off the couch and grabbed the remote from the coffee table, switching off the movie and turning to glare at him.
"You know I don't like horror! Yet for the past several weeks we've done nothing but watch it! When are we going to watch something I want to watch?!" you snapped, hands balling into fists.
You could tell Kunhang was taken aback back your outburst as he floundered to find a response. You expected him to bite back, adding fuel to your fire by saying something along the lines of 'I work so much! Why can't we watch what I want!' But to your great surprise, his face just dropped.
"I like the way you hold onto me," he said softly.
You squinted.
"Huh?"
He sighed and sat up straighter, putting the bowl of popcorn on the table.
"You always cling to me when a part scares you. Sometimes you even jump into my lap and I like that. I like protecting you..."
As his voice trailed off, you sighed, anger evaporating. You sat down on the couch next to him and took his hand.
"I don't mind that sometimes, but not all the time," you said. "Besides, wouldn't you rather make out while watching a romance movie?" you smirked.
He paused at the suggestion, seeming to weigh his options in his mind before flicking the television back on and searching up the sappiest romance movie he could find.
With a grin, you sat back on the couch and discreetly coated your lips in cherry chapstick while he found a movie.

Your feet and back ached as you walked through the door to your apartment after an exceptionally long shift at the diner you worked at part time. All you wanted to do was crawl into bed with your loving boyfriend and go to sleep in his arms. However, as you laid eyes on Jeno and Jaemin sitting beside YangYang with some game loudly playing from the tv, you couldn't help but groan.
"I'm home," you called tiredly, biting back the urge to grumble about games as you made your way into the kitchen to grab a glass of water and maybe a sugary snack.
As soon as you flicked on the light, you couldn't fight the irritation as your eyes met three empty pizza boxes stacked carelessly on the stove and a mountain of plates, cups, and bowls you'd begged YangYang to take care of that morning.
"YangYang!" you snapped, teeth gritting as you found the trashcan, also filled to the brim, waiting to be taken out.
You heard mumbling from the living room followed by an absence of firing guns, meaning they'd paused the game. YangYang walked into the kitchen, eyebrows raised as if he had no idea why you'd called for him.
"What the fuck Yang! I ask you to do the dishes, they're not done! Taking the trash out is your job anyway and it's piled sky high! And those fucking pizza boxes don't belong on the damn stove! What did you do today?! Sit on your ass while I was slaving away!" you yelled.
In hindsight, you probably shouldn't have picked a fight with YangYang's buddies in the next room, but your tired brain could take no more.
"I had to practice and they just got here an hour ago! Don't go snapping at me when you just as easily could do the dishes now!" he snapped back.
"Why should I have to! I've been working all day! You could have done the dishes before they got here! Hell, I wish you would have!"
"Excuse me for not being a clean freak!"
You blew out a huff of air and squeezed your eyes shut.
"Whatever, just go play your damn game."
You turned away from him and moved to the sink, starting the water and pouring in a good squirt of dish soap before grabbing a sponge and getting ready to wash the dishes before a pair of arms wrapped around your waist, a face nuzzling into your neck.
"I'm sorry I didn't do the dishes baby," YangYang whispered softly.
You didn't respond as he pulled the sponge out of your hand.
"Go to bed. I'll do the dishes and then come join you," he whispered.
It was a fast change of heart, but one you were thankful for. You pressed a kiss to his cheek before making your way toward your shared room, not missing the way Jeno and Jaemin bolted from the apartment before YangYang roped them into helping.

Love And Marriage
Spnquotebingo @spnquotebingo
Quote: You don't save a marriage by sleeping with other people.–Lucifer
Mostly Memory: slant/bold. Quote:small/bold
"What the hell, Anthony!" She yelled scaring both brunettes in the bed she shared with him. The women who looked half her age scrambled off the bed in a rush and ran out of the room getting dressed as she ran out the tower. This time she was throwing objects at the genius screaming and swearing every word under the sun. And yes this wasn't the first time, but its sure as hell will be the last. "How could you do this to me!? Time and time again I forgive and you do it again!!" She tried taking control of her emotions, but they over took her and laid everything out on the table.
Tony slipped on his clothes yelling back and forth with his wife. It was a screaming match that all of New York could hear. "Maybe if you weren't such a controlling bitch I wouldn't need to rush into the arms of a women that would get off my back!" He yelled back and she was stunned into silence. Tony continued talking. "Ever since we been together you've been trying to change who I am and I got sick of it, but you were America's golden girl I couldn't dump you. You just couldn't take the hint ,sweetheart." He finished his intoxicated words got the better of him, but drunk words were sober thoughts and maybe this is exactly how he felt after all these years.
"I want a divorce." She said her voice shaking not wanting to cry in front of the man she loved and she thought loved her back. "What?!" He turned on his heels and stared at her the shouting didn't sober him up, but those four words did. "What did you say?" He asked as if he didn't hear her. "I'm through, Tony. I'm tired of this back and forth. You said it yourself your not willing to change your partying playboy ways so I'm through." She said as she went to get her phone to call her brother. "I want a divorce." Those were the final words uttered to him before she stopped talking to him all together taking off the ring made from the metal of his original reactor the diamond glowing the same blue that lulled her to sleep. Y/n twirled the ring in-between her fingers a nervous habit after the years.
Steve got to the tower from his apartment along with Bucky and Sam. His two friends walked into her bedroom to hear Tony shouting and pleading for her to listen to him. Steve went to his sister as his friends pulled the thrashing man out of the room and to a different part of the building so he could cool off. Tony in the end didn't calm down and was getting violent to the point they had to knock him out and by then Y/n was getting packed with the help of Steve
The suitcase was harshly zipped up as she rushed closing it. Tears flowed freely down her face as she packed all her things well all the things she bought herself. She wasn't running, running was for cowards she was escaping before she drowned herself in whatever kind of love she once had with her husband. Y/n breathed in through her nose as her body convulsed with another fit of silent sobs. Trying to calm down she wanted to get think clear. Did she really want to leave? No, but he didn't give her much of a choice. The light tan line on her finger just further proved she wasn't turning back...not this time. Not even for him. Y/n needed time to think without the threat of the end of the world and out from under her now ex's crushing ego.
She was shacking with anger and in grief it happened again and she was done with it all. Tony fucking Stark her husband, lover, best friend cheated on her again for the third time that she knew of. Y/n saw it she was always there at the wrong time almost like he wanted her to see how pleased he was with another. Steve came out of the bathroom with more hygiene products. "How are you feeling? Are you okay?" He asked for what feels like the hundredth time. Steve knew Y/n wasn't okay he could see it and the sight made him want to rip Stark a new one. With a deep inhale she looked up at him with s slight smile as real as she could make it. "I'm okay I just need to get out of here. Fresh air. New scenery if possible." She said as she looked longingly at a picture on the nightstand not noticing that her brother left with her bags while she stared off. The picture was of her fifth date with Tony after being together as boyfriend and girlfriend for two years, a light festival their first openly public date for cameras to capture them together making it official. America's Sweetheart with a Playboy billionaire...that headline alone should have been the first of many red flags.
The memory played vividly in her mind. Her eyes shined like stars as she dragged him behind her. It was still light outside and the small park was crowded. "Come on, Tones!" She said excitedly as she dragged him along. Many people looked at them and whispered, but they didn't care. They spent the night talking about any and everything it felt so natural. Y/n stared into the sky on their picnic blanket having already painted her lantern with a good amount of wet paint still on her hands. "We've been on what feels like a million dates and this seems like the perfect one to ask you. Will you marry me?" Tony said holding a black velvet box with a f/c diamond ring. "I thought you'll never ask!" She pulled him into a kiss paint covering his cheeks as lanterns where released. He kissed back hands resting on her hips. "Let's go home Mrs.Stark-Rogers." Tony said with a smile. "Well come on then Mr.Rogers-Stark." He was once again dragged away. "No no no my name first Steve will not hold that over me!" Y/n giggled as the memory faded into a much older one.
The twelve year old girl was getting her hair brushed by her mother. "Mama what's love like. I know you love daddy so what's it like?" She asked it's been two years since her father died ,but her mother always said she stilled loves him. "Love is a amazing feeling that doesn't happen often and sometimes it can hurt." The blonde women said to her daughter she couldn't tell her wanting love cost more then giving it. "Why will it hurt?" The young h/c girl asked turning around. "You're to young to know right now, but at some point you will." By the time Y/n turned fifteen she learned that loving someone can hurt after she stood next to her brother and best friend looking at the slab of stone that marked their mother's grave.
The first time it happened she was pissed, but not at the right person at the time. The second red flag.. Screams are what filled the house as Y/n threw clothes at the tramp that was in bed with her drunk husband. She was so anger, but that just hid the pain she was feeling three years for him to cheat. After shutting the half clothes harlot out on the front porch of the Malibu home she stormed back to Tony. He stayed in his boxers on the bed looking dazed he was drunk. "Why?" Is all she could ask as tears fell down her cheeks. The billionaire stood up and walked toward her he wiped her tears. "I'll change. I promise." He kissed her head. She believed him she had faith that he couldn't change for them. After all Y/n did the same she gave up being a hero along side her brother because he told her he already worries about getting home to her as Ironman no need to add the stress of not knowing if she'll get home. So she hung up her red, white, and blue catsuit for him.
After a year Y/n sat in her art studio wear she sold her and other rising artist artwork after Tony said she shouldn't paint in the tower, she painted with her brother laughing messing with colors. She was thankful she put down plastic tarp beforehand a giggle rang out when Natasha walked through the door. Without saying anything she drops a magazine on the table of brushes next to Y/n. On the cover was Tony kissing some red head though a window tears welled in her eyes as she wiped her hands he eyes not leaving the cover till it was picked up off the table. Natasha comforted her as Steve took the magazine and paced. " Am I stupid for trusting him? Thinking he would change?" She asked as the waterworks flowed. "No ,if anyone is stupid its him. Ever since he came out as Ironman he thought he was untouchable. God imma kill him!" The red head said while Steve was flexing his hand not wanting to hit any of the stored art pieces. The third red flag for all to see.
The bus rocked back and forth as she looked over at her brother sleeping next to her. They were heading to the airport and he was going to see her off before possibly killing Tony. Speaking of she looked down at her phone and saw dozens of missed calls and hundreds of unread text. She felt that the world was so much bigger after leaving, after getting away from the place that no longer felt like a home. Turning back to the window a memory came to surface as a teenage girl sat on the bus watching old Brooklyn go by. She thought life was so slow she wanted to grow up faster and experience life. Y/n wanted to find love like her parents had. "What are you thinking about doll?" She turned and in Steve's place was Bucky her adoptive big brother. "Nothing important, James." She said with a sigh as the old modeled cares turned back to modern vehicles and yellow taxi's.
Tony woke up and ran around the tower while calling and texting his wife. "Friday track Y/n' s phone. He said as he went to the lab to get in his suit. "She's as NYC airline." The irish voice answered as he stepped into the suit letting it close around him. Before the hatch could open completely he was flying out of the tower to the airport. "Any idea which flight?" He asked wanting to get there before it's to late. "No boss, but the next flight leaving is heading for U.K and boarding in fifteen minutes." Time was running out he needed ever second he could spare. "We'll make it in ten." That night Ironman flew to save whatever he had left.
Y/n held her ticket in her shaking hands her breath uneven. Steve left after the bus dropped her off they said their goodbyes not making the separation hurt any less. Her thoughts came back to Tony all the good times made her smile, but the dark clouds took them over soon after. It felt so right to be in his arms thinking about the future they had with each other within seconds that became a distant memory. What's sad is she wants to go back wondering if she held on to those moments longer they'll last forever. The ring she slipped back on her finger weighed a ton. Y/n didn't have the strength to take it off not for good at least and this made her feel weak. Pain was heavy in her heart from the constant ache, but the little voice kept saying maybe if we tried harder he would have loved us the way we love him, maybe rushing into a relationship wasn't the best idea, maybe he's happier without us ,maybe not telling him about the positive test was the best option ,maybe...maybe.
A hand resting on her stomach she wanted to laugh, but that would have brought on a fresh wave of tears. She started off the day without Tony in bed and sicker then she's been since her pre-serum years. Y/n went to the doctor completely covered form any prying eyes and the test were clear she couldn't believe it she took about ten test in her studio bathroom before heading back to the tower. Howard warned her and Steve that the serum might sterilize them, but at the time both of them were to small and sickly and she knew getting pregnant might kill her anyways so they both agreed to it. Y/n wished she could hug the man today he made her better and let her have a gift she never thought was possible. A baby was growing inside her. Tony never really talked about kids and neither did she since that wasn't a possibility before, but the moment she held five of the clearer test she wanted to rush into his arms and have him be the first to know. That quickly fell apart that evening and now she's here.
The suit landed out side the airport and Tony immediately ran out of it into the building looking through his tented shades he followed the path Friday set for him rushing through security. "Now boarding flight A145 to United Kingdom. Ahora aborda—" The intercom rang out. He was running out of time. There he saw h/c hair one of a couple dozen in line due to the oddly timed flight. "Y/N!!" Many heads turned at the shout while so gasped and whispers started. She looked at him and froze. His eyes looked bloodshot and he wore baggy sweats and a AC/DC shirt. Turning back around she tried to get on the plane quicker, but a hand grabbed her arm. "Please listen to me. I'm so so sorry! I'm a fucking moron okay? I know I just keep screwing up between us and I know you're tired of me saying I'll change, but if it means I keep you in my life I'll do damn near anything." Tony's voice shook as his eyes welled with tears people crowed to see the Starks some seemed to clued in on the subject while others were lost. "You can't fix this Tony. There's nothing to fix between us you said your piece and actions speak louder then words there is no saving this." Y/n whimpered holding her hand in her own.
"I can save us, N/n! Please just give me a chance too. You and me against the world right?" She shook her head no as she looked into his brown eyes with her glassy e/c ones. "Wrong. You just don't get it do you? You don't save a marriage by sleeping with other people. And I gave you more then enough chances to change because God I changed so much for you!! I gave up saving people, gave up painting in the tower, stopped helping Pepper with business, stopped going to briefings, and so much more. All for you and you couldn't do one thing for me." With quivering hands she gently brushed the tears from his cheeks letting her hands go from his shoulders to his hands. "I loved you, Anthony. I always will have a special place in my heart for you, but clearly the same doesn't go for you." Y/n now held one of his hands bringing his knuckles to her lips giving them a chaste kiss.
She let go of his hand as she stepped back from him many of the passengers having already boarded the plane. "Don't say goodbye." He said voice small and weak. "...don't think of this as a goodbye. We just met at the wrong time in the wrong place. Maybe I'll come back to you and just maybe we can start again from the beginning, but until then this is a see you later." She turned and went on board as he stood their feet glued the the floor. Looking down at the hand she held the ring sat in his palm she left him with a piece of his heart while she took the rest with her. What is a marriage without love

Unexpected Part 2
Harry Potter Marauders Era AU
Link to Part 1
Pairings: Regulus Black x Reader
Rating: M-minor smut
_______
Regulus couldn’t get away from Sirius soon enough. The last thing that he really wanted to deal with was Sirius asking questions about his love life. Regulus was already regretting what he admitted to his brother. Saying that he didn’t love you was a bit harsh. While he didn’t exactly know what love was, Regulus was sure that there was something of it inside him for you.
Stepping into the house, he remained in the hallways but focused his attention on you specifically. You sat talking to Lily with Halley in your arms.
I do care for her more than she knows...I suppose that I do love her
The past four months had been crazy for both of you. Crazy was putting things lightly. Before Halley was born Regulus never had any interest in having a child. The day that you had come to him with the test results, Regulus almost fainted. Remembering the day was enough to make him nervous again.
Regulus stood in the hotel room looking at the muggle pregnancy test as you stood waiting for him to say something. He had paced around the room a few times and was close to losing the stronghold that he had on his temper. Regulus needed an answer and you were only looking at him for an answer on how to feel.
“Are you sure? What if it's faulty?”
You looked up at him with a confused expression. Regulus was trying to remain calm and you could see it. He was trying not to upset you and for that, you would be eternally thankful.
“Six of them?”
Regulus ran a hand through his hair. Six of them wouldn’t lie. One could be faulty but you clearly covered your bases...smart clever girl.
“Is there anyone else that the child could belong to?”
Your face immediately went from worried to shocked. That comment you clearly didn’t expect and Regulus regretted asking it immediately. He was the one that had taken your virginity that night and you only made time for him from that night forward.
“I’ve only slept with you! We have been seeing each other a lot lately...if you’re suggesting that I am some loose tramp just forget what I’ve told you and I’ll handle it on my own with no help from you.”
You quickly gathered up your things and turned to leave without another word. Regulus stood motionless a moment longer before taking off after you. He ran through the hotel room and skidded into the foyer.
“Y/n, wait! I’m an idiot.”
Your hand was on the door handle as you turned to face him. What color Regulus had in his face had vanished leaving your lover paler than normal. His young face was etched with worry as you began to speak.
“No, you’re just a prim and proper boy who wasn’t trained to have unprotected sex with some stupid girl who is on the other side of the tracks.”
Regulus had to agree with you on that one. His mother would have a fit if she knew what her youngest son had done. Regulus couldn’t let her know...not yet. Walburga would expect you to “get rid of it” and that wasn’t something that he wanted to happen. Regulus wanted nothing more than to protect you and his child...even if it meant disappointing his family.
He quickly closed the distance between your bodies. Reaching out Regulus pulled you into his arms. What he was doing...he had no idea. Holding you seemed like the best option that he could come up with.
“Let me take care of you...We did this together and to be honest with you, Y/n, I’ve become taken with you.”
His words from that day were still accurate. Regulus was taken with you and he didn’t see that changing. Maybe he wasn’t ready to say love then and in some ways he was afraid to say it now but deep down he knew that he loved you. You would be the one that would prove to him that love exists.
Halley crying pulled Regulus from his thoughts. Any time the child made a noise, Regulus was on his feet. Had he ever expected to love the child so much? No. The moment that Halley was put into his arms the first time, Regulus was in awe of her. For someone only being minutes old, she already had him wrapped around her finger.
The baby’s arrival made Regulus question his own relationship with his own father. Orion had always been closed off and didn’t want to be bothered with his sons until they were older. Regulus wasn’t even aware if his father knew who he was until he was at least six. When he was older and not as interested in causing havoc (as Sirius) Regulus finally became closer to his father.
The last thing Regulus planned on doing was letting Halley feel this way. That was the thing that he liked about being in Paris alone (without other family involved). It was just the two of you looking after Halley alone. The two of you only relied on each other to make sure that the baby was happy and healthy. Now...Regulus was afraid that would change. When your parents and his parents decided it was time to sink their claws in, things would become difficult between Regulus and yourself. Would he side with what his parents wanted (which would involve Halley being raised in a life of privilege and pureblood shenanigans) or what your parents would want (still a privileged childhood but no pureblood bullshit that would piss his parents off)? Regulus already made a personal promise to himself that he would put his foot down and tell his parents no...should it need to be done.
You, meanwhile, had stood up trying to lull the child back to sleep. Meeting Regulus’ eyes, you gave him a small smile. Regulus couldn’t help but smile back. You were stunningly beautiful and you were his.
I really am an ass.
Regulus thought as you came to join him.
“Is everything alright?”
You asked, softly. Regulus nodded. He gently kissed your forehead, earning a scowl from Lily in the other room.
“Everything’s fine, darling. How about here? Are they plotting my murder?”
You rolled your eyes before giving him a sly smile.
“Nothing of the sort. Would you like to come upstairs with me to get the baby to sleep? It will be a bit before my parents arrive.”
Regulus nodded. He was more than happy to snag a few moments of silence with you. After the disastrous meeting with James, Regulus needed some time to prepare for meeting with your parents. He already expected your father to not be pleased with him. What kind of father would be pleased to find out that their daughter hastily married a man that she had a child with secretively? If there was some kind of father that would be okay with this then they must have something wrong with them.
“Y/n, you can put Halley in Harry’s crib if you would like. He’s not due for a nap for a while.” You gently placed Halley down in the crib. Making sure that the baby was sleeping, you turned and went back into the bedroom that Lily directed you toward. Regulus lay back on the bed with his hands behind his head.
“It didn’t take her long to go to sleep.”
You commented before easing your shoes off. Regulus gave you a smile.
“Normally at this time of day, it isn’t too bad. I was thinking...maybe we could go look at some houses or flats tomorrow? I would feel a lot better if we had our own place and didn’t have your brother looking down his nose at us nonstop.”
You moved to lay down beside Regulus on the bed. Snuggling your face into his chest, you gently petted his cheek until Regulus rolled himself to look down at you. His steely gaze kept your eyes locked on his.
“Is that what you want?”
You asked. Regulus nodded.
“We need our own place for our family. I know that you’ve missed your brother but we can’t stay with them forever. I have a feeling that I will be in a fight with James if we stay too long. I wouldn’t want to rearrange your brother’s face too much.”
Regulus was relieved when you didn’t become annoyed. You were well aware of the animosity between Regulus and James. Their relationship had been rocky since childhood at school and you didn’t see that changing much into adulthood. You had a feeling that Regulus would be more receptive of a cordial relationship with James but your elder brother wanted nothing of it. James was still furious with the Black family for how they did Sirius (and you understood that). Regulus, in James' mind, was a pampered little prince that knew nothing of the world. Regulus was the little brat that became Slytherin’s seeker and helped the Slytherin team crush Gryffindor into the ground. There were many other petty things that led to James’ disapproval of Regulus. Now James had your marriage and Halley’s birth to add to his list of reasons why he didn’t like Regulus Black. What James didn’t see was that Regulus lost his own brother that night and suffered greatly when Sirius left. He didn’t see that Regulus was only going through the motions after Sirius left.
You pulled yourself from your thoughts before looking up to Regulus.
“You’re right. We’ve gotten used to our privacy. I’m not looking forward to keeping quiet or worrying about silencing charms anytime that we want to touch each other.”
Regulus’ eyes fluttered open at that. He gave you a small smile.
“We have to watch ourselves to not wake up the baby. I am not about to take extra care to not give your brother nightmares….or….”
You immediately put a finger to his lips.
“Don’t be mean. Trust me, James is probably already brooding over the fact that we have sex..making him hear it would be just cruel.”
“I never claimed to be nice”
Regulus commented before leaning down to kiss you. You eagerly kissed him back. Slipping your hand down his chest to the buckle of his belt. Regulus’ hand quickly covered yours.
“Do we have enough time?”
You nodded.
“We’ve gotten used to quickies, unfortunately. Lucky for us, Halley sleeps like her father and won’t wake up for small noises.”
Regulus rolled his eyes.
“Very funny, smart mouth. You know, I think that I am in love with you.”
The two of you shared a smile before Regulus stood up to remove his trousers while you pulled your skirt up enough to spread your legs. You watched your husband with a pleased smile as he slid his trousers down his slender hips.
“Funny, I think that I’m in love with you too.”
You replied as Regulus took his place over you. Regulus gave you a needy kiss. He was as desperate as you were for some “closeness.” You groaned against Regulus’ mouth and he gently pushed inside of you. As much as you wanted to lay about and make slow passionate love to your husband, there wasn’t the time. The last thing that you wanted to do was face your parents looking thoroughly fucked. Things were about to be awkward enough without turning up with messy hair and swollen lips.
“Maybe we can con Lily and James into keeping Halley for a few days so we can have some private time alone. We haven’t had any of that from the day the child was born.”
You suggested as Regulus set up a steady pace. His eyes snapped open and rolled up to you.
“Don’t talk about your brother when I’m making love to you.”
Regulus hissed. You reached up and pulled Regulus down to you.
“Then kiss me and don’t be so loud.”
It seemed like the two of you had just gotten your clothes back on when there was a knock on the door.
“Yes?”
You called out. Lily’s voice came from the other side.
“Sweetheart, your parents are here.”
Regulus muttered “fuck” under his breath as the color drained from your face. It was time to face one part of the firing squad.
“Okay...be right down.”
It took you a few more moments to start downstairs. Regulus had gone into Harry’s room to get Halley. You waited outside of the room until Regulus stepped back out with Halley in his arms. The baby looked confused as she held onto her father’s shirt.
“It's going to be alright.”
Regulus said, hoping to sound confident. You only nodded before turning to walk down the stairs.
Taking a deep breath, you walked into the living room where your mother and father sat. Both were gleefully talking to a very quiet James. Your mother was the first to turn. She immediately stood with a smile.
“Y/n, darling!”
Euphemia moved to hug you but stopped the moment that she saw Regulus and the baby. Her mouth dropped as your father noticed the same thing.
“Y/n…”
Your mother started as James came in.
“It's exactly what it looks like.”
You narrowed your eyes on your brother as the annoyance began to build up.
“Shut up, James. They don’t know everything nor do you.”
Your father frowned. Neither James nor yourself ever argued with one another so this sudden venomous attitude was a shock.
“Y/n, what is going on, dear?”
Fleamont questioned as he turned his attention back to you. You took a breath.
“Before the both of you get angry, let me explain. Regulus and I got married and this is our baby. We didn’t tell anyone because we were afraid that someone would get hurt. If a letter with the information fell into the wrong hands...it could have been disastrous.”
Euphemia was clearly surprised as she put a hand over her mouth. She had a granddaughter that she didn’t know about. Shocked was the best feeling that she could come up with. James stood up.
“You know he is right?”
Euphemia immediately gave her son a displeased scowl. Of course, she knew who Regulus was. When Sirius turned up half dead at her doorstep, she wanted nothing more than to take Regulus away from his parents too but the boy wouldn’t hear of it. He had too much loyalty to his family.
“Yes, we know who he is James. I’m not angry with you, Y/n. I understand given the present situation with the times but I would have liked to have been there...for everything.”
Euphemia wanted to say more about her internal displeasure but it would make no difference. She could have told you that she missed every mother’s dream of watching her daughter walk down the aisle. Euphemia wanted nothing more than to have been able to be there with you while you were pregnant...that was taken away from her. In time the wounds would heal.
James’ mouth dropped.
“You’re both okay with this?”
Fleamont turned to his son. Your father’s displeasure was clearly written on his face but he didn’t speak of it.
“There is no point in beating a dead horse, James. What’s done is done.”
He finally commented as Euphemia stepped closer to Regulus with a warm smile. Regulus still looked like the shy boy that she remembered so well.
“Let me see this baby.”
She said cheerfully as Regulus slowly put Halley in her grandmother’s arms. Euphemia smiled immediately before gently stroking the baby’s cheek.
“She’s lovely.”
Euphemia commented before smiling up at Regulus.
“She looks a lot like you and your brother, dear. How old is she?”
“Four months, ma’am.”
Euphemia nodded with a smile before meeting her husband’s eyes. Fleamont had finally stood up and came to look at his granddaughter.
“She’s a perfect little girl. Harry will have a little playmate now.”
James looked up at that. You were pleased to see that realization had finally washed over your brother’s face. He hadn’t even gotten a good look at his niece due to him acting like an overgrown child. James looked at you apologetically. He made a mental note to talk to you later when Regulus wasn’t hovering over you. It would be easier to talk to you without the little pampered prince around. You would be his sister again...not Regulus’ wife.
James smiled down at his niece who was snuggling her grandmother.
“I only hope that Harry and Halley are as close as Y/n and I were.”
James said with a pleased smile. It was a genuine comment too. He wanted nothing more than for his son to be as close to his cousin as the two of you were as siblings. James could only hope that he could repair whatever damage he had caused that day.
For the next few hours, everything went smoothly. To your delight, your parents seemed as pleased with Regulus as you were. Your mother gave you a pleased as punch smile that let you know everything was alright with your family.
One set of parents down...one more to go...
When they left, you went to get Halley ready for bed. Regulus had remained in the living room attempting to talk to a very non-receptive James. You knew that it would be a very long road between the two.
As you walked up the stairs, you heard Sirius and Remus talking. The moment that your name came up, you froze outside the door. Sirius’ voice was the first one that you heard…
“Regulus doesn’t even love her. He said he hopes to fall in love with her someday but at this time he doesn’t love her. I think that it's a bit mean of him. Empty words hurt and you know how lovely Y/n is.”
You felt both your mouth and heart drop as Remus spoke.
“He actually admitted that to you?”
Sirius quickly spoke again with a sigh.
“That’s exactly what he said to me. He married her because it was the right thing to do. He didn’t want people talking about her. What I think is he didn’t want people talking about him. My brother is such a selfish little git. Makes me want to go punch him...he has a good wife. Y/n loves him so much and he just…”
“Sirius, maybe Regulus doesn’t know his own feelings. You know how you were over admitting to not knowing what love was at first…”
“Don’t care...Y/n is the mother of his child and he says I love you...he needs to mean it.”
You couldn’t listen anymore. Wanting to cry, you were tempted to go downstairs and yell at Regulus. This conversation would need to happen in private. Words couldn’t describe how heartbroken you were. Regulus had always made you feel loved and when he said “I love you” it felt so genuine. Now that you knew it was all a lie, you couldn’t formulate how to describe your feelings. Knowing Regulus only married you to keep himself “in a good light” was the worst feeling in the world.
It was another thirty minutes before Regulus came into the bedroom. He froze seeing you sitting at the end of the bed with tears in your eyes. Regulus immediately frowned. You didn’t cry.
“What’s wrong, love?”
You shook your head.
“Don’t call me that.”
Regulus blinked a few times before raising an eyebrow.
“I always call you that. What have I done?”
“Don’t tell me that you love me ever again! Never try to fool me with empty words. I know what you told Sirius outside. You married me out of some sense of duty so you wouldn’t be made out as the bad guy. It wasn’t out of us being in love. I was a fool then and I suppose that I still am. I would have been better off with people talking behind my back…”
Regulus’ cool composure didn’t drop. Inside, however, was a different story. He was about to panic over the knowledge that you had heard what he told his brother. The bigger question was how did you hear it? Did Sirius tell you? If he did, Regulus was going to strangle him!
“I do love you.”
He argued as you stood up. You took off your wedding ring and put it on the bedside table. Regulus could do with it what he wanted. As far as you were concerned, you had no idea what would happen between Regulus and yourself now. That sacred trust, that you thought was there, clearly wasn’t.
“Just stop! We have to stop! This has to stop!”
Regulus was beginning to lose his temper now...especially with himself. If he had just kept his mouth shut earlier then none of this would be happening. He would have a happy wife that loved him not one who was sobbing and hated his existence.
“If you are wanting me to leave you it isn’t happening.”
You rolled your eyes before starting for the bedroom door. Regulus moved to stop you but you shoved him out of the way.
“Well, I might just wash my hands of the whole stupid thing. I regret ever meeting you, Regulus Black.”
Regulus didn’t move to go after you. He was in too much shock to move. You had never said something so cruel to him. Not that he blamed you, had the rolls been reversed Regulus would have been as upset.
I really am an ass.
Regulus thought before lying down on the bed silently praying that he wouldn’t wake up.
A few hours had passed when the sound of Halley crying woke Regulus up. He sat up quickly and flipped on the bedside lamp. Yawning, Regulus glanced down at the clock that read 2:45. Halley had the fun habit of waking up around 3:00 every morning. Why would this night be different?
The soul-sucking depression hit Regulus like a brick to the stomach. The realization that you weren’t beside him made Regulus want to cry in frustration. He hadn’t cried in years but the night's events were enough to make him want to. Had this happened in France, he would have found a bottle of brandy and drunk himself to sleep.
Getting out of bed, Regulus slowly stepped into Harry’s room to only find the sleeping boy in the crib. The sound of you talking gently to Halley quickly grabbed his attention and Regulus turned in the other direction.
You sat in the living room gently rocking Halley who was eagerly playing with your necklace.
“I’m just fine on my own.”
You commented, not looking up to meet your husband’s exhausted face. If you had, you would have seen the depressed expression on Regulus’ face. You weren't sure if you would care or not though. At the moment, you wanted him to realize just how miserable and heartbroken that you were. You had considered telling Regulus that he could just go and be a typical 19-year-old and chase skirts if that was what he wanted. You weren’t going to stop him or keep him in some “loveless” marriage that he thought was the best idea in the first place.
“We always do this together.”
Regulus sadly commented. You kept your attention focused on your daughter’s face.
“Maybe it's time for a change. Go be a typical husband and go back to bed.”
