eternal sunshine. masterlist
a/n. it gets better at the ending part so plZ just bear w me. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! I'm turning 20 this year lol feels so scary if you think about it but whatever
The universe is unfair, but Yangyang has learned to live with that.Â
It was unfair that he always played second to someone else. The second male lead, the second-best choice, the second most important. But he was never really bothered about it. Not until you waltzed your way into the picture.Â
You still remember it vividly. It was a Monday afternoon, the first read through with the cast of Eternal Sunshineâa week before filming. He was already sitting beside the chair assigned to you, practicing his lines diligently while you took a sip from your coffee you ordered to-go.Â
You greeted him with a warm smile but he only replied with a small and rushed one. Sure, he was your second lead in the drama but during that time, he made you feel unwanted. But who are you kidding? Of course, you were everything he wasnât supposed to want. Youâre the female lead, the one who would be with the male lead in the end. The center of attention. Realistically, youâre a nepo baby whose life had been handed to her on a silver platter, complete with designer shoes and an unearned (still) spotlight. But God, did you wear it well.
Whereas Yangyang had to work his way up. Every step of his journey was carved out of his determination and long nights filled with self-doubt, managementâs uncertainty, and the mediaâs scrutiny. He wasnât handed anything the first time he breathed in the land of showbiz. Every opportunity, recognition, and spotlight heâs getting right now is because he persevered.Â
Thatâs what made sitting next to you on that Monday afternoon so excruciating.Â
While he did smile to your way in a rushed manner, he viewed you as a person far differently than other people did when they looked your way. You were effortless in his eyes. Effortless in a manner that he could never be. Even in the most mundane moments like you sipping on your coffee, standing up to bow to anyone who comes in the script room, scrolling through your phoneâyou carried yourself with an air of belonging, like you had been born to inhabit the world he had clawed his way into.Â
And yet, it wasnât jealousy that twisted his chest when he looked at you. Heck, it was something worse.Â
No matter how much he tried to deny it, when your mouth opened to read the script, Yangyang knew exactly what you were capable of. You werenât just a nepo baby or some random female lead that the crew casted. You were the kind of actress everyone aspires to be. And also the kind of person who could uproot everything heâd worked so hard to build.
You first met Yangyang at a press conference after an award show your parents were invited for and you were their plus one. The journalist decided to pick on you, asking you pressing questions regarding your status in the industry.Â
âWhat do you feel that everyoneâs calling you a nepo baby, Ms. Y/N?â Well, you almost wish the journalist hadnât called you âMissâ if his question was like that.Â
You just smiled at him awkwardly, never giving in to their pressing questions about your relevance in the acting industry. Afterall, you believe youâre more than just your parents. Sure, they opened this path for you but youâre working hard to show to everyone that you deserve that spot.Â
You never really paid attention to the young actor during that time but you saw him looking at you while you were being interrogated by the rude journalist. Your eyes met for a brief moment before he broke it to talk to another actor.Â
At first, Yangyang didnât feel bad for you during that time, considering how he thought you were an annoying actress, like what he had heard from rumors.Â
âMiss Y/N, whatâs with you today? You keep on failing the scene,â the director yells another disappointed âcut!â after you fumbled your lines with a scene with Sicheng. âLetâs take 5!âÂ
âIâm sorry, Sicheng,â you gave an apologetic smile to the star actor but he just shrugged and went to his assistant to freshen up.Â
If there was one thing you loved about working with Sicheng, it was because he doesnât really care about where you came from or what you did to become his female lead. Heâs just there for work. A bonus is that he treats you nicely, heâs just nonchalant at times. Especially when that pop star comes into the set.Â
âYouâre too stiff, Y/N,â the sudden voice from behind your back startled you. You whip around to see Yangyang leaning casually against a prop stand, arms crossed and an amused grin tugging at his lips.Â
âYour bodyâs too tense, thatâs why you keep messing up,â he points out, tilting his head. âI saw it when you were delivering your lines.â Â
âOh, Yangyang-sunbaenim! I see, Iâll try to deliver these lines as smoothly as possible,â you replied, giving him a small smile.
âPractice it to me.âÂ
âHuh?â
âPractice your line to me and I can give you feedback, dummy,â Yangyang reiterated, his tone filled with playful impatience.
âO-oh! UhmâŠâ You focus, taking a deep breath before looking directly into his eyes, âLei⊠I donât think you can understand me⊠I donât think weâre⊠weâreâŠâ Your voice falters right where it did before. You clench your jaw, trying to force the words out, but they just wonât come.Â
Your shoulders drop as you let out a sigh of defeat, âI donât think I can do this,â you admit, your voice barely a whisper but Yangyang heard it.Â
âYou think you canât because you want Lei and Riko to be together. Youâre so immersed in your role right now, Y/N,â Yangyang scolded, giving you a bottle of water from his staff.Â
âThis isn't real, Y/N. You need to separate work and your personal feelings. If you want Lei and Riko to be together, they will in the end. Just not in this scene. Get yourself together and wrap this scene up so we can all go home,â he reaches up, ruffling your hair like youâre a little kid on the set, and before you can even process what he did, heâs already walking away, hands shoved in his pockets heading straight to annoy Kun.
âSeparate work and personal feelings, huh?â You muttered, staring at the water he gave you. His words echo in your mind, louder than the busy mumbles of the crew around you. Maybe what he said is true considering how you canât bear to think that Lei, Sichengâs character, and Riko, your character, will end their love escapade for a few episodes before rekindling again.
âY/N, Sicheng, back on stage!â The director yelled, giving you a brief smile before instructing the cameraman. âDo your best.âÂ
You nod, tightening your grip on the water bottle before setting it aside. Your feet move automatically, carrying you toward the place youâll be delivering your line in. As youâre heading to your place, you can feel Yangyangâs eyes on you.Â
You looked in his direction and he already had his signature gummy smile plastered on his face, âDo your best,â he mimicked the directorâs voice, making you giggle.
It was a week after the first shooting for Eternal Sunshine that the director called you in her office for an emergency revision for the later episodes.Â
You were wearing your favorite faded jeans with a long sleeve and a coffee on your hand. At first, you thought it was just gonna be you and the director but a sleepy Yangyang came into her office like itâs his second home.
âGreetings, Yangyang!â The director annoyingly scolded him, throwing a pillow at him when he immediately latched himself onto the sofa.Â
âHello, noona. Hello, Y/N.âÂ
âIâm very sorry about him, Ms. Y/N,â his manager, Huang Renjun, apologized on behalf of the second male lead. âHe just came from an overnight shooting with Mr. Qian Kun. The two of them had to shoot their scenes more than once because the rookie actor kept messing up and they didnât want to be assholes on set.âÂ
âHey! What about an apology for me?â The director playfully demanded even though she had known the reason for Yangyangâs behavior beforehand. The director was like family for Yangyang and Renjun. This isnât the first project they did together hence theyâre comfortable with each other.
âAs he said, Kun-ge,â Yangyang mentioned the golden boy and the three immediately saw the flabbergasted reaction of the director. âKun-ge, Kun-ge, Kun-ge, Kun-â Yangyang teased, his smile grew wider as the directorâs face became more embarrassed before having enough of his ministries.Â
âEnough, second lead!â The director sassed, âI called you here today because thereâs a change in the storyline weâre going to record for tomorrow,â she started as her assistant gave you and Yangyang the copy of the revised script and concept for the shoot.Â
As you skimmed the pages, you realized that you and Yangyangâs character will be in close proximity, fully giving justice to his second male lead role. âAs you can see, Riko and Jun will be closer to each other after Leiâs and Rikoâs fall out. Of course, this will be brief as the latter couple will get back together,â she explained. âI just want the both of you to prepare yourselves. I know that the both of you have the least interaction throughout this series but you need to prepare⊠like, prepare,â she emphasized before adjourning the meeting, leaving you dazed.Â
âAfter reading this script, I think Riko will fall harder for Jun than Lei,â you joked, already feeling the pressure as you saw a scene where you and Yangyang had to kiss.Â
âWill you?â Yangyang asked, his tone was interrogating.Â
You tilted your head, confused with what he meant, âWill I what, sunbaenim?â
But he just shrugged, telling you to prepare for tomorrow before leaving the office.
The ride on the way home was unusually quiet.Â
âWhat do you think of him?â Your manager, Chenle, asked you.
âOf who?â
âOf Yangyang.â
You tried to think about what to say for a moment, âWell, heâs nice to me.âÂ
âThatâs it?â Chenle glanced at you through the rearview mirror, one brow arched. âNice? Heâs Yangyang, Y/N. Everyone I heard who worked with him canât get him out of their heads after.â
You rolled your eyes, leaning your head against the window. âHeâs good at what he does. Professional. Maybe those people canât separate work from their personal lives or whatever.â
âProfessional, huh?â You can hear the smirk from Chenleâs tone.
âJust stop overthinking things, Chenle,â You sighed, dumping all of your body weight on the car seat. âTomorrowâs gonna be a long day with him so you better not make any weird comments like whatever this conversation is.â âThereâs nothing weird with the conversation weâre having, Y/N.â Chenle retorted, âIâm just hoping you could come to your senses tomorrow and do your best as an actress. You still have a lot to prove in the industry.â
âI know that.â
Itâs tiring, honestly. For you, itâs a never ending quest of âprovingâ yourself to the industry, general public, and your own family. Itâs sad to think about how as a child, everyone was looking forward to your acting debut but once you did, all the nepotism news bombarded your career hence, youâre now known as the ânepoâ baby.Â
You used to think of it as a positive thing, you never forgot to thank your parents in every interview for this opportunity as an actress because you know, since as a kid, that this is the path meant for you. Itâs like youâre honoring them every chance you have but the public deemed it as ârubbing your nepotism faceâ every chance you get.Â
In the end, this whole issue got out of hand and you donât mention your parents as much as you used to, even coming as close to declining films where they are starring in or in affiliation with in fear of the nepotism thing getting even bigger.Â
The next day on set had this heavy atmosphere not usually there when itâs you and Sicheng filming. You think itâs probably with the revised script that got everyone on their edge because the crew were everywhere, ensuring all of the props and sets are nice and perfect for your shoot.Â
It was also during this time that you realized the scene youâre about to do.Â
Itâs the middle part of Riko and Junâs relationship where they kiss because they realized they love each other, only for a short period of time, and it ought to feel magical or else people would believe that Rikoâs still in love with Lei and is using Jun but in the script, Rikoâs in love with Jun, even if itâs just for a brief period.Â
The director deemed it easier for the both of you to finish the hard scenes first before the others so as to ensure smooth filming in the later days of the schedule, considering that Yangyang and other actors in this series also has other schedules.Â
âRelax,â Yangyangâs voice broke through your thoughts as you couldnât shake your nerves.
First day with Yangyang as your characterâs lover and youâre already about to kiss. Whatâs there to not be nervous about?Â
He was leaning against the makeup station, dressed amazingly by his stylist. You think of his presence as effortless but right now, thereâs a glint of something in his eyesâquiet yet intense.Â
âIâm trying, sunbae,â you replied, turning to face him.
He stepped closer to where you are, lowering his voice so only you could hear. âYouâre overthinking it, Y/N. Itâs just a scene. Weâre professionals, remember?âÂ
You nodded, but your hands were still trembling slightly. Yangyang saw your state and sighed. âNepo babies,â he teased as he shook his head before giving you again a bottle of water. âTake a sip, madam. It will make you feel better.â
âIâm sorry for feeling nervous, sunbae.â You apologized as you took a sip from the water he gave you. âItâs just that⊠itâs my first kissing scene ever and Iâm not familiar with the grounds for kissing in a scene.â you admitted.Â
Yangyangâs smile was wide and charming as he listened to your confession, âDonât worry, sunbae will guide you.â
It was show time and the director called you and Yangyang in for a brief summary again.Â
âLook,â Yangyang said to catch your attention, âThink of this scene as an important moment for Jun and Riko. They came from heartbreaks and found comfort from each other,â he gave you an advice, âItâs like their enlightenment scene where they kiss and suddenly, all is well.â
You stared at him, trying to gauge what he had just said. âIâll do my best,â you said shyly, offering him a small smile before walking to the center.
âI know you will,â Yangyang replied, his gummy smile returning.Â
âOkay, lovebirds for a glimpse,â the director called. Lovebirds for a glimpse is you and Yangyangâs new nickname on set because of this RikoJun scene youâre doing. âKiss your way!â was all she said before giving the both of you the cue.Â
As the scene began, you convinced yourself that this isnât about you. This is about Riko finding love again after what happened with Lei. This is her first kiss with someone who comforted her. And with that, you found yourself more at ease.Â
Yangyangâs character approached yours, his eyes showed vulnerability and it almost felt too real when his orbs directly looked into yours. The lines flowing out of his mouth smoothly, as if he meant them.Â
And when the moment came, when Jun leaned in and Riko didnât pull away, it was like the rest of the world disappeared.Â
The kiss was soft, hesitant, and lingeringâexactly as it was supposed to be. Yangyang held your head with such gentleness while your hands found their way to his back, trying to get him closer to your body.Â
You know itâs just pretend kissing but part of you wished it was real with the way Yangyang was holding you and your proximity, his warmth made you feel small in a way that is not condescending. He made you feel safe.Â
When the two of you break the kiss, your eyes meet again. This time, you definitely went out of character as you looked at him deeply, fully portraying Rikoâs yearning for him. Her âI found youâ moment.Â
âCut!â The director yelled ecstatically. âThat was such a good scene!âÂ
You thanked the director while your mind was still in a daze as Yangyang gave you a small, reassuring nodâas if saying that you did well. You couldnât help but give the actor a smile in return.Â
As the crew buzzed around you again, you caught Chenleâs gaze from the sidelines. He raised a brow, smirking at your direction as if he knew something you didnât.Â
And maybe, he did.Â
The rest of the day passed in a blur. Between the countless takes, script changes, and the directorâs endless feedback, you barely had time to process anything. Except when Yangyang was in the same room as yours. You admire how his presence seems to fill every corner, tugging at your attention no matter how hard you try to focus on anything else.Â
By the time you wrapped up for the day, your body ached from exhaustion, and all you wanted was to crawl into bed. At this time, you thoroughly expected a grumpy Chenle waiting for you in your dressing room but you were taken aback with what you got instead.
It was Yangyang, leaning against the wall near your dressing room, scrolling through his phone like heâs your boyfriend waiting for you to finish your shoot⊠you mean, what?
You hesitated to greet him but he looked up at you before you could even decide.
âY/N,â he greeted, âChenleâs out with Renjun. Figured Iâll wait for you instead, considering how late it is now.â
âOh,â you mentally cursed your manager, your inner monologues filled with âHow dare heâ and âHow could heâ. âItâs fine, sunbae. I can manage on my own.âÂ
Yangyang slipped his phone into his pocket, standing up straight in the process. âNo, nepo baby. Youâre gonna be with me until you enter the backdoor of your apartment.âÂ
Youâre too tired to decline a persistent Yangyang that you just nodded before heading to the parking lot. âLong day,â you sighed, leaning into the car seat of Renjunâs van.Â
âTell me about it,â he responded as he started driving.Â
You glanced at him, surprised, âI almost forgot! Arenât you supposed to be staying for the night shoot?â
âNah, Kunâs taking over because of changes again. Figured the director would have also preferred it that way,â he laughed as his hands smoothly maneuvered the steering wheel.Â
You giggled at his response, âSounds about right.âÂ
The two of you drove in an awkward silence for a while, the cold air conditioning of the van touches your body, making you shiver.Â
âSo,â he said eventually, looking at you for a brief period in his rearview mirror. âHowâd it feel? The scene, I mean.â
You bit your lip, avoiding his brief glances at your place. âI donât know,â you started, âIt felt different⊠I donât think I can find the right words to describe it right now, really.âÂ
You try to brush off his question with a laugh but you know deep inside your heart that you couldnât just tell him you wished that the kiss was real. That you wish there was something more and that his glances at you earlier meant something.Â
âBut your advice did help a lot!â You tried changing the topic which you think was effective after he gave you a smug chuckle in return.Â
âTold you.â
There was something easy about talking to him like this, away from the cameras and the crew and everything.
While driving, Yangyang made sure to take all the precautions he needed so as to not get caught with you in his managerâs van. Sure, heâs being friendly and acting like a dependable sunbae to you but he canât afford being caught in a scandal, not with you.Â
When you reached your destination, he made sure to contact the security to ensure no one was there before letting you go.Â
âThanks for earlier, sunbae! I donât think I wouldâve gotten through it without your reassurance.âÂ
He tilted his head, studying you for a moment before giving you a soft smile. âYou wouldâve been fine, with or without my advice. Give yourself some credit.âÂ
You stood frozen in the middle of your apartmentâs parking lot at the sudden compliment. âAnyway, Y/N, get some good rest as tomorrow will be just as crazy as today.âÂ
âYeah,â you nodded, âYou too, sunbae, you too.â
By the time you reached your unit, you were surprised to see Chenleâs outdoor shoes in the entryway.Â
âYangyang said youâre out with Renjun,â your face turned sour at the sight of Chenle chilling on your sofa. âWhat a bad manager you are!â
âYeah, yeah whatever. I left the restaurant earlier than Renjun.â
You didnât mind what he said and went directly to your room to change. When you come back to your living room, heâs still in the same spot you left him a while ago.Â
âWhat do you think of him now?â He asked again. This time, you already know who he was referring to.Â
âHeâs still fine and I still donât understand why youâre doing this,â you rolled your eyes, joining him at your sofa.Â
âHe looks at you like youâre the lead of more than just the show, Y/N,â Chenle said slyly.Â
âYouâre overthinking things again, Chenle. Yangyang-sunbae is nice. I think we just have a good hoobae-sunbae relationship thatâs why youâre acting like that,â you defended the actor.Â
âI hope youâre right,â was all he said before placing all of his attention back to the television.Â
At this point, you hope youâre right.Â
Itâs been a week since you spent time with Yangyang, filming the scenes for RikoJun and today, you guys are wrapping it all upâtheyâre gonna end their relationship and Lei will come back into the picture.Â
âMissed me, Y/N?â Sicheng teased you.Â
Itâs also been a week since you last saw Sicheng, considering how busy he had gotten with his modelling gigs and sneaking out the pop star every night to his condominium.Â
âYou wish,â you retorted.Â
âI heard you and Yangyang have a great chemistry,â he said again, his arms crossed to his chest.
âI like to think we do, too!â You gleefully replied, âHis advice helped me a lot, especially during the heavy scenes we have together.â
Sicheng looked at you, âMhm. I hope we still have that spark together after your time with him.â
Everyone on set was perplexed as to why Yangyangâs watching your scenes with Sicheng now, considering how he doesnât have any upcoming shoots with you or with other actors of the drama today.
âYang? Why are you here?â The director asked, completely puzzled to see the young man on set.
âJust wanna watch some of my colleagues, noona,â he showed off his gummy smile before proceeding to sit at the chair where the intern is supposed to sit.Â
âBack off, Liu. The internâs assigned there,â Hendery hissed, giving Yangyang a side eye before watching the younger one go away from the seat.
âChill, Wong.âÂ
But Hendery didnât give him any more attention, walking back to his van again to wait for the directorâs orders.Â
âWoah! What a tense situation you got there, Yang!â The director saw what happened, grinning ear to ear at Yangyang.Â
âShut up, noona. Why you gotta hire that man, anyways?â
âWell, heâs a good actor and heâs not rude to me,âÂ
âWhatever,â was all he said before looking for another seat to conquer.
After your shoot, you saw Yangyang outside your van, leaning against it while busying himself with his cellphone.
âSunbae?âÂ
âOh, Y/N. Already finished?â He asked, his eyes filled with joy as soon as he saw you in front of him.Â
âYeah. Why are you here, sunbae?âÂ
âN-nothing, Y/N. Have a great day.âÂ
You found it weird that Yangyangâs in front of your van yet left when you arrived but you didnât divulge deep into the thought as your managerâs already waiting for you inside.Â
âHe was waiting for you,â Chenle told you the moment you sat on the leathered seat. âI thought heâs going to ask you out or something.â
âPlease stop, Chenle. I know you like joking about stuff like that but heâs just a nice sunbae, thatâs all!âÂ
âDrop the act, Y/N. I know you like him.â
This time, heâs right.
It started with the kiss scenes then the lovey-dovey shootings then came the drive-you-home extravaganza. Everything about Yangyang screams boyfriend for you. When heâd smile at you like youâre his most favorite thing in his world or when youâd be the only one heâd give techniques and advice on set, you knew what Chenle said about the man is right.Â
At first, you were in-denial about it. Thinking that maybe youâre thinking this way about Yangyang because you canât get your shit together and that youâre acting unprofessional. But, you know yourself. All this time, you are professional and diligent but his acts towards you aren't.Â
Now, youâre here watching his character meet up with a new character the director added on a whim, saying something along the lines of âIâm sad Yangyangâs character didnât have a partner.â
âCut!â The director shouted, âThat was a good run! Thank you, everyone!âÂ
The moment your eyes locked in with Yangyang, he immediately walked your way, not minding the new female character in his vicinity.Â
âYou were great out there,â you complimented.Â
âThanks,â he looked up before looking right into your eyes again, âBut thatâs just an act you know, what you saw earlier.â
â...I know?â You laughed. Of course, you know. Youâre an actress for godâs sake!
âJust⊠saying,â he responded. âAnyways, are you free? Do you want to hangout with Sicheng and the rest?âÂ
You thought heâs about to ask you out on a date but Sichengâs name flew out of his mouth and made your mood a bit down.Â
âSure, Iâd love to,â you replied, opening your SMS app to message your manager about the said gathering.
You were about to sit beside Yangyang when the new actress beat you to it and told you to sit between Sicheng and Hendery.Â
âItâs more fun if we sat beside our partners in the drama!â She suggested but you knew she just wanted to sit besides Yangyang.Â
The table was tense, with the actress giving Yangyang a lot of food on his plate while you and the rest were quietly looking at the both of them.Â
âI told Yangyang not to invite the newbie,â Hendery murmured.Â
âWouldnât that be bad?â You asked, surprised he even talked to you.Â
âSo what? He could tell her Iâm the one who suggested it.â
âThat would be bad for you, then.â
âEveryone knows Iâm bad. Much better for her to experience it sooner.âÂ
You wanted to continue the conversation with Hendery more but he was clearly preoccupied with his ramen.
âThatâs Hendery for you,â Sicheng smiled. âHere, get some of the beef I cooked.âÂ
âThank you, Sicheng,â you thanked him as he put some cooked beef into your plate.Â
From time to time, Yangyang kept on glancing at you while the new addition to the crew kept on pushing herself to the man. He was being uncomfortable because even though they rented a private section of this restaurant, rumors can still go and he canât afford to have that.Â
âHeâs looking at you, Y/N,â Sicheng said, as if you hadnât noticed it earlier.Â
âI know, oppa. It feels weird.â
âMiss Y/N, you havenât been touching your plate. Is everything alright?â Dejun asked rather loudly and everyoneâs eyes on you now which made you feel small, especially when Yangyangâs gaze turned concerned.Â
âYes, Dejun-sunbae. I just feel full now,â you smiled at his direction which is a bit to the left whereas you were in the middle.Â
âIâll finish your food, Y/N. Give it to me,â Yangyang suddenly said, his right hand in your direction, waiting for you to give him your plate.Â
âButââ
âSicheng-ge, give me her plate,â you swear you could hear the newbie disagreeing with Yangyang but he didnât mind.
Sicheng, being the biggest shipper of you and Yangyang, gladly followed the youngerâs request.Â
âThank you, Yangyang-sunbae,â you said, eyes glinting with affection that everyone on the table didnât miss.Â
Of course, the both of you may not notice your deep fondness towards each other but everyone around you can feel itâthey just donât want to meddle with it.Â
After everyone finished eating, you guys decided it would be better to part ways with each other and when the cast vanished into the busy streets of Seoul, you found yourself alone with Yangyang.Â
âAt last,â Yangyang jokingly said, nudging you playfully with his elbow while grinning from ear to ear. âAt last, I can be with you alone!âÂ
Your heartbeat raced as you tried finding a reasonable response to him. âDonât say that, sunbae!âÂ
âWhy? Donât you want to spend time with me?âÂ
âI like being with you, Yangyang-sunbae,â you responded, your tone was heartfelt but your execution was shy.Â
Yangyang glanced at you for a while before forcing you to look back up at him, his fingers found your chin, racing it up so you could meet eye to eye. âIâve been meaning to tell you this, Y/N.âÂ
âMhm?âÂ
âYou can stop calling me sunbae, you know,â he continued, âJust call me Yangyang, like everyone does.â
âBut I donât like calling you the way they do,â you argued, your lips forming a firm line.Â
He just laughed at your stubbornness before ruffling your hair.Â
âOkay, nepo baby. Just call me whatever you want,â he smiles at you genuinely, never getting tired of your little habits.Â
âOkay, my dearest sunbae,â he laughs again this time but you truly meant what you had said.Â
Sure, you might have other sunbae than him that you look up to and respect the most but none of them is Yangyang. None of them can make you feel the way he makes you feel. To you, heâs irreplaceable.Â
Yangyangâs presence is a constant in your day as an actress. Heâs always there, watching your scenes and cheering you on every chance he gets. He would also lean over your script, pointing out notes with an exaggerated seriousness that makes you not pay attention to him.
âYou know, I could just ask the director,â you say, snatching the paper back.
âBut Iâm more fun,â he whines, leaning back with a pout.Â
Then there are the quieter moments, like when youâre both reviewing scenes on his tablet, shoulderâs brushing as you sit close enough to share the screen. Or the way his hands would instinctively hand you a water bottle before you could even realize youâre thirsty.Â
Or when he would always stay up late at night, waiting for you to wrap up your shoot before bidding you goodbye, watching you go inside your van before minding his own way home.
âSunbae, you donât have to wait for me everytime,â you say one evening as he lingers beside the directorâs chair, watching you finish your last take for the day.
âAnd miss seeing you trip over your lines when youâre tired? No thanks,â he teased, flashing you a mischievous grin.Â
You rolled your eyes at him, tossing a tissue towards his direction which he dodges with a dramatic flair.Â
Moments like this have become the norm, not just to you but to everyone else.Â
Everyone on set notices it. The way Yangyangâs eyes soften when he talks to you, the way your laughter is always louder in his presence. Itâs in how he seems to move with you, like gravity itself pulls him into your orbit.Â
âTheyâre so obvious,â the director complains jokingly.Â
âWould you say anything, though?â Kun asked with a hushed tone, glancing at you both from across the room.
âHell no.âÂ
To the crew, itâs an open secret that no one dares to talk about. To you and Yangyang, itâs just the way things are.Â
And Chenleâs really worried for you.
Youâre sitting in the dressing room, scrolling mindlessly on your phone while Chenle organizes your schedule for the following months. The buzzing voices and footsteps of the crew fades as you stand up for a while to close the door, creating a rare moment of peace and solitude in your otherwise hectic day, before sitting comfortably again.Â
Chenle sets his laptop down on the table with a deliberate thud, breaking the comforting silence.
âWe need to talk, Y/N,â he says, his tone filled with urgency.
You glance up, already sensing the shift in his usual sunny demeanor. âWhat is it this time?â You asked, trying to lift his mood up but it seems like your manager has no time for jokes or any of your ministrations.Â
âItâs about Yangyang.â
You look at him puzzled, âWhat about him?âÂ
Chenle crossed his arms, his expression was stern. âWhateverâs going on between you two, itâs too much. Everyone on set sees it.âÂ
âSo what if they do? People talk all the time,âyou counter, feigning nonchalance, though your heartbeat races and you feel a knot tightening in your stomach.Â
âThis is serious, Y/N,â his tone now direct, âThis isnât just about people talking. Youâre putting your reputation and his career at risk!âÂ
You roll your eyes at what he had said, leaning back in your chair. âChenle, itâs not that serious. Even if something happens, my parents can fix it. Theyâve done it before. Donât worry.âÂ
âSee? Thatâs exactly the problem Y/N,â he snaps, âYouâre so used to your parents cleaning up after you that you donât even see how dangerous this is for him,â you could tell his frustration is boiling over but you donât seem to understand why heâs angry. âSure, you can tell everyone how youâre so much more of your name or your parents. You can decline any movies or series with their name, but that action of yours. This action of yours is why people still think youâre a nepo baby.âÂ
Your eyebrows furrow, feeling confused. âIâm not doing anything wrong, Chenle. Iâm sure Yangyang knows how to handle himself.â
âDoes he?â Chenle laughs at your naivety. âDo you have any idea how hard heâs worked to get here? He doesnât have the privilege of a safety net like you, Y/N,â he pauses for a moment, trying to catch his breath. âOne scandal, one rumor, and everything heâs built is gone.â
Youâre quiet for a moment. The weight of his words made you understand where heâs coming from but your response only deepened the rift. âOkay, fine. If it comes to that, Iâll handle it. My parents will definitely make sure nothing happens to him either. Iâm sure of it.âÂ
Chenle was cynical after hearing what you have just said. âYou donât get it, do you? This isnât about who your parents can pay off. Itâs about respect. Respect for his work, his sacrifices, his entire life!âÂ
Outside the door, Yangyang stands frozen, his hand stuck on the knob. He hadnât meant to eavesdrop on you and Chenleâs conversation, he just wanted to hang out with you today but instead, he got to hear your careless and out of touch words, making his chest tighten.Â
He hears Chenleâs voice lower, ultimately giving off the vibes that heâs intensely irritated at what you have said. âYouâre so caught up in thinking everything will be fine because it always is for you. But for him? Itâs not. And if you really care about him, youâd stop pretending this isnât a big deal. Stop whatever is going on with you two, Y/N.âÂ
Yangyang doesnât want to hear anymore of what you guys are talking about. His stomach churns as he walks away, Chenleâs words and your indifference playing over and over in his head.
The ride home was quiet but not the quiet you wanted to have with Chenle. You genuinely canât understand why heâs so exasperated with you when youâre just telling the truth. You canât seem to find the problem with your parents paying off tabloids and threatening news agencies to keep the rumors about you and Yangyang out of the public eye.
And maybe, just maybe, the reason why you canât find the problem with what you have said is because youâd never truly had to worry about the consequences of your actions. For you, it was simple: if things went wrong, you had the means to make it right.
âChenle,â you finally broke the silence, your voice softer now. âI didnât mean to upset you earlier. I thought I was being practical, you know? Looking out for everyone⊠I donât know. Maybe Iâve missed something.âÂ
Chenleâs hand tightened around the steering wheel of the van and you could see the tension in his shoulders. âItâs not just about you, Y/N,â he said, âItâs about Yangyang too. You have no idea how much risk he had put out on himself just so you could be close with him the way you are with him now. How heâd probably be in his bed every night, thinking when or where news would break out about you two but still continue to act like your lover day by day. You have no idea how much heâs risked for you and here you are, thinking everything can be handled with a few phone calls from your parents.âÂ
His words stung more now, the sharpness of them cutting through your confusion. You tried to open your mouth to speak but nothing came out. This time, you knew Chenle was right. You have no idea.Â
âDo you really think this is just a game for him, Y/N?â Chenle continued, âI know, itâs partly my fault for letting him drive you home that night and for not giving you a heads up but I didnât think it could go deeper. I didnât think it could end up like this.â
âItâs not your fault, Chenle. I just⊠I just didnât think of it like that,â you murmured, your voice almost too quiet for him to hear. âI just thought that⊠that itâs the way things work for me. I didnât realize our situation could put him in a worse situation than me.âÂ
Chenleâs expression softened at your confession, âI know you didnât. But thatâs why I need you to start seeing it from his side. From his perspective. This isnât about what you can fix or what you think you can get away with.â
Betrayed is an understatement of how Yangyang feels right now. Hearing Chenleâs frustration and your clueless words earlier made his heart twist uncomfortably. Just when he thought everything was okay. Just when he thought it was okay to let his guard down for you. You just had to let him feel different from you.Â
âWhat are you going to do, Yang?â Renjun asked, sighing as he saw his talent leaning against the window of his car. He had heard about you and your managerâs dispute from Yangyang. The young man was already on the verge of crying when Renjun calmed him down, even just for a moment.
âI knew we shouldnât have gone that far into whatever we had, ge.âÂ
âIâm sure Y/N had her reasons as to why she said those things, Yang,â Renjun tried to save you from Yangyang but he knew itâs no use.Â
Knowing Yangyang, Renjunâs too sure that the boy will completely distance himself from you, considering how he just realized how dangerous it is for him to fall for someone like you.Â
âNo, ge. This has to stop. Whatever this is. Chenleâs right. Even if I hadnât heard her talking with her manager, I canât let things go that far, ge. I have a career to uphold,â Yangyang sighed, âWhat would the public think if they learned about us? Itâs so scary.â
âYouâre overthinking again. Try to talk things with her tomorrow, maybe itâll clear your mind.â
Tomorrow came and Yangyang dreaded it the most. You, on the other hand, are oblivious to the fact that your potential significant other potentially heard your conflict with Chenle last night.Â
âYang-sunbae!â You greeted, still clueless.Â
With you greeting him with a huge smile that could cure the world, Yangyang wished he hadnât heard what you had said yesterday. Yangyang wished this could go on. Yangyang wished you guys were just ordinary people.Â
âI heard your conversation with Chenle,â he wasted no time. Yangyang spoke to you with the coldest tone he could muster but his insides were shaking.Â
âHm?â You were confused.Â
What conversation with Chenle? You thought.Â
Oh. You realized.Â
Oh.
âMust be nice for you, huh? To not be worried about your career because your parents can clean your mess up,â his words cut you like a knife. He swore to himself to become calm once you met him but Yangyang felt overwhelmed.Â
âWhat are you-â you couldnât even continue what you were about to say because he interrupted you again, his disappointment in you evident in his eyes.
âI like you, Y/N.â
Those were the words you hoped Yangyang would one day say to you but his tone wasnât the way to put it. You felt no butterflies in your stomach because you know this is not the confession where the both of you would end up together. More like a confession where youâd end up alone.Â
âI like you too, Yangyang-sunbae,â you try. You hoped that he would calm down. That this revelation of feelings would soothe him and make him realize that everything is okay. That heâd realize youâre ready to risk everything for him.
But deep down, you know youâre just a fool for even confessing.Â
Yangyang shook his head, âI like you, Y/N,â he repeated, âBut we should stop. Your manager is right. What we have right now shouldnât continue. Weâre not allowed to be like this,â his voice cracks at the end of his sentence.Â
A confession and a closure at the same dialogue? Yangyang is the only one who could do that.
âYangâŠâ but he didnât respond. You look at his figure walking out of the set.Â
You cried at where he had left you. You look like a fool there, with the director coming at your direction, completely confused as to why Yangyang left so suddenly and why you were left there, sobbing.Â
âNo amount of public hate could make me hurt the way his words did,â you cry at the directorâs shoulder. You were almost shaking.Â
It was your first ever rejection you have received your whole life. Sure, some individuals do not accept you in this field but his rejection of you was personal.Â
âWhyâd you do that to her?â Yangyang found it surprising that Hendery was the one to ask him why. Out of all the people in the set, this young and rude man was the first one to ask him why.Â
âShe canât understand me or my situation. She can never understand it,â Yangyang just replied as he brought the cigarette to his lips, inhaling deeply as smoke curled up in the air.Â
âYou should have known that from the start, considering sheâs a product of nepotism,â Hendery replied. Him, too, lighting up his own cig.Â
âSheâs more than what the public thinks of her,â Yangyang argued, âBut, I think I have overestimated her.âÂ
Yangyang didnât mean to leave you crying, he felt hurt himself. When he saw you earlier, memories of yesterday flooded his mind, overwhelming him and causing him to say whatever came to mind in that moment.
He was terrified that he would become nothing once the news about you two broke. The thought of a dating scandal uprooting all the sacrifices he had made for his career filled him with dread. In truth, he was afraid of you.
From the first time he saw you at the read-throughs, he sensed something about you could destroy him. Still, he tried until all that remained was the painful realization that you couldnât be with him.
Hendery didnât respond to Yangyang anymore. Instead, he just stood there while Yangyang found himself sitting with his truth in silence, grappling with the weight of his emotions. It was just him, Hendery, and the unspoken fears that lingered between you two, a reminder of what could never be.
âI know this is bad timing but the editing team accidentally deleted a kissing scene from Riko and Jun and nowââ the director was frantic, almost worried for you and Yangyang but Kun calmed her down.
âBreathe,â he said, patting the back of the director to soothe her.
âThank you,â she smiled before continuing, âI need the two of you to get your act together and film this one, just one, scene again.â
Yangyang didnât reply, as if heâs distracted with something. You, on the other hand, gave the director a small nod.Â
It was the day after the confession-closure thing and you kinda accepted to yourself that while he has become wary with you, youâre still willing to accept him. Even if it takes a lifetime.Â
âGood morning, sunbae!â You gave him your best, energetic smile but he just gave you a nod.Â
âAt least, he acknowledged you,â Sichengâs makeup artist felt bad for you so she tried to cheer you up.Â
âOkay, Y/N and Yangyang! Give us your best shot!â The director calls, you breathe deeply before looking straight into Yangyangâs, you mean, Junâs eyes.Â
Be professional, Y/N! You scold yourself.
Yangyang immediately dives into the kissing scene, leaving you no room to mentally prepare for it.Â
The kiss was fierce and desperate. You feel as if youâre trying to consume each other, pouring all your unspoken words and pent-up feelings into this single moment.
Your hands find their way to his hair, pulling him closer as if afraid he might disappear. He responds by deepening the kiss, his hands gripping your waist tightly, grounding you both in this whirlwind of passion.
Itâs as if you guys werenât Riko and Jun. The pretend kiss was extremely intense, everyone on set felt that it was genuine than it was supposed to be. But the director liked it.Â
âCut!â The director shouted and Yangyang was quick enough to detach himself from you. âThat was a good one-take!â
You werenât able to respond because Yangyang was already leading you to a secluded place.
âHey! Wait!â You try to make him stop, âThe directorâs not finished talking, sunbae.â
Once he deems itâs safe enough, he looks at you before sighing deeply. He leans into you, kissing you for real this time.Â
Yangyang doesnât know if this is your first kiss but you donât care at all. You close your eyes, feeling the moment.Â
âIâm sorry, Y/N,â he says, breathless.
âI should be the one apologizing, sunbae.â
Yangyang inhales, looking straight into your eyes, âItâs just⊠itâs just Iâm afraid to disappoint them, Y/N. My fans. The public. I donât like the way theyâd paint me if weâre revealed.âÂ
âItâs okay, really. At least, you told me now,â you give him a half smile.Â
In that instant, you realize how much youâre willing to risk for him. You were so easy to forgive him that youâd already forgotten what he had made you feel yesterday. But thereâs this thought that has been eating you since then⊠that Yangyangâs not ready to risk what youâre ready to give him.Â
âLook,â you were determined to make this right. âI know itâs complicated butââÂ
He shakes his head harshly, cutting you off. âNo, Y/N. You donât understand this âcomplicatedâ youâre talking about. I like you, Y/N. I genuinely, deeply fell for you but I canât afford to risk my career or put you in danger of being even more hated by the general public.âÂ
âYangyang-sunbae,â your voice was trembling but you still gave him a forced smile, âWe can still be friends, you know?â You donât want to be friends with him but if thatâs the only way to keep him around, youâre willing.Â
âNo, Y/N. We canât be friends.âÂ
âWhy not?â You plead, desperate for him to explain whatever he has on his mind because heâs been puzzling you since earlier.Â
âBecause I like you more than friends do,â he admits, his voice betraying him again.Â
The confession sends a rush of emotions through you, âSo what does this mean for us?â
âIt meansâŠâ He hesitates again, his brow furrowing, knowing that whatever comes out of his mouth next will change his relationship with you. âIt means I have to lose you to protect you.â
The words hit you like a punch to the face. You want to scream that itâs not fair, that love shouldnât come with conditions or sacrifices, but only a shaky breath left your lips.
âYangyang-sunbae,â you say softly, stepping closer again despite the chasm between your desires and his fears. âI donât want to lose you.â
He looks at you then, really looks at you, and for a fleeting moment, it feels like time stands still. In those gaze of his lies everything unspoken: the love that burns fiercely but is overpowered by his fear.
âI wish things were different,â he murmurs, his voice thick with emotion.
You reach out, fingers brushing against his hand, wishing for him to reconsider. But deep down, you know heâs already made up his mind.
âItâs premiere day!â The director gleamed.Â
âSicheng, you ready?â You ask your lead partner.
âAsk yourself first if youâre ready,â he replied. And heâs right about it, considering how this is the first time youâre going to see Yangyang again after your closure.Â
The venue was filled with energy, cameras flashing from left to right, fans cheering for every cast member, and the buzz of excitement filling every corner of the room. You take a deep breath before diving in with Sicheng at the stage, reminding yourself of the work you had put into this series.Â
The lights were blinding you and Sicheng and you canât even hear the cheers of your fans with your heart thumping incredibly loud and fast. As you pose for photos, your eyes canât help but wander to Yangyang. And when you did? Your heart almost dropped.
Yangyang looked dapper in his suit, standing with his partner in the drama as well as the other cast members. He catches your gaze for a second before continuing to smile at the cameras pointed at him. You canât help but feel a pang in your chest.Â
You mean, whatâs the point of looking that good if thereâs a distance between the both of you?
After the dashing and successful premiere of Eternal Sunshine, you find yourself at the after-party where only the crew and the cast were invited.Â
The atmosphere was celebratory, filled with laughter and clinking of glasses. Heck, you even heard someone say that this drama is going to be a hit and that you deeply hope. But your mind wanders to Yangyang, sitting at the side with Hendery, exchanging small talks with the man every once in a while.Â
You donât know what came to you at that exact moment but you canât help yourself. Your feet found its way towards an unsuspecting Yangyang.Â
You first greeted Hendery, who even though feels the atmosphere didnât need his presence there, didnât give a single care and continued to eat.Â
âY/N,â Yangyang greeted you first.
âHey,â you smile softly at him before leaning to his level, whispering, âI just want you to know that Iâll wait for your love, Yang.âÂ
It was the first time Yangyang had heard you call him without honorifics, making him flustered and shocked. He was about to respond to you but you shushed him, walking towards the area where the director is to talk with her.Â
You know that thereâs no need for further explanation because deep down inside, you're resolute: youâll absolutely wait for his love. You like this man deeply, more than words can explain, and no matter how long it takes you're willing to endure it all for him.
COMING UP NEXT. âYeah, but itâs so weird because you can feel the tension and I think itâd be even weirder now because theyâre wrapping up the first season and Ten has to get the interesting bits while the makeup artist has to make sure Sicheng is the interesting bit.â

Heart And All
pairing : a relationship that has never been defined! liu yangyang x gender-neutral!reader
genre : sick fic. angst.
warnings : sick fic! mentions of hospital and the typical hospital related warnings (sickness/dying/medications etc)
summary : you visit yangyang in the hospital.
You're a little nervous, unsure about whether or not you should be there or if you even deserve to be there. His friends know you as a rendezvous that they're used to on a Friday night. His family know you as a regular face during some early morning breakfast with easy conversations.
It was a casual situationship that bordered on relationship and friendship, crossing the barriers more often than not. But it was fine. Labels weren't necessary neither were they scary.
Until now
The smell of antiseptic was once a comfort to you. You ceased to understand why people would find it traumatic, you found it soothing, healing.
Now, you understood.
A little.
You find Liu Yangyang, jokester. Pain in your ass. The only person who seems to understand you body and soul. Heart and all. Looking too frail and weak on the hospital bed.
His soft eyes, and soft conversation with his mother halts at the sight of you by the entrance.
"Hi darling," Yangyang's mother sweetly smiles at you, "Come in."
"You came?" Yangyang questioned, a little touched. You look pretty as per usual. But hes super excited by the sight of you. Finally someone that isnât his family that hover over him, nor his friends that sneak him shots of alcohol only to drink them themselves seeing his state.
You nod, a basket of fruit sitting awkwardly in your hands.
"That doesn't suit you," He comments and he's quickly chastised by his mother swiping him across the chest. You see the way he smiles, almost as if he's chasing the normalcy of being told off by his mother for his cheeky retorts.
Yangyang's mother excuses herself, rubbing your shoulder before exiting.
"Thanks, dickhead," You huff, and Yangyang's mother loves the laugh that escapes her son's mouth as she wanders down the hallway to give the two of you space. Her arm quickly wrapping around her husband's in a tight grip and an emotional sniff of breath.
You kneel beside him on the bed, eyes trailing across his body with wide eyes.
"Do I look that terrible?" He snorts and he expects you to laugh. To smile. Be the normal he craves. You know he does.
But,
Your expression crumbles instead, and he's alarmed by the pure emotion that glazes your eyes over, "I'm sorry."
He frowns, leaning over to wrap you in an awkward embrace, courtesy of the wires he's plugged into and the IV drip, "Why are you sorry?"
"I wasted too much time," You confess, gluggy in the throat and stuffy in the nose, "All this time."
"It's not too late at all," Yangyang chuckles, "Tell me what you want to."
"I like you," You vent, "Have for ages. So much so that I think I love you now..Surprise!"
His body shakes with laughter, but even he can feel his eyes welling with unshed tears, holding you, "I love you too."
He listens to the slow rise and fall of your chest. And you feel the warmth of his body soothing you. You've got your chin hooked over his shoulder as if you're the sick one.
His arms are like pillars, strong and inviting. And you feel the butterflies as his soft hair brushes against the skin of your shoulders and lightly touches the skin of your neck.
It's quiet.
But you enjoy it.
Basking in the hold a little longer before visiting hours end. You donât talk and neither does he.
Itâs serenity.
He smells like baby soap and bandages but you canât help but settle into it. Committing it to memory.
Warmth like youâve never felt before.
"This is comfy," You whisper, pulling away. Laughing softly as his head follows your body, "Are you sleeping, love?"
âLoveâ is a first, but you hope to use it more often starting right now.
You laugh because you don't know.
And you only stop laughing when you see.
Your body moves on auto pilot. Feeling the rush of movement around you. He sleeps and sleeps. Even when his friends and family plead with him. Bargain with him and with people they can't see.
Even when they push on his chest.
Even when they record the time.
He sleeps and doesn't wake up.

[21:25] "you say i don't care about you, but that's a damn lie. i care about you, you're really the only person i've ever cared about so much," she reads, midway through the letter that yangyang had dropped into her bag days agoâthat she hadn't found in the mess of her bag until just a few hours ago.
"i don't just like you. it's not just a crush. i really, really care about you."
tears began trickling down her cheeks. and it wasn't the silent type of crying either. it was the type of crying where your lower lip starts trembling, forming a deep frown as your vision blurs, where your nose fills with snot and you suddenly feel like you can't breathe.
if only yangyang knew that she had liked him too. she wanted to scream, knowing that it was her fault for being so distant to everyone emotionally.
but he was on a plane to germany right now, and she knew that there was a big chance she'd never see him again, and that she'd never meet someone quite like him again.

LOVE VIRUS; L.DH
synopsis â after a fateful encounter with a mysterious resident, you decide to follow his example and became a nurse, just to get the chance to see him again. romance, fate-like moments, you expected a lot from your first meeting after many years... just to find out he is the most insufferable jerk!
genres â first love au, co-workers-to-lovers, doctor au
pairing â lee donghyuck x fem!reader
warnings â language, mentions of death, incorrect medical descriptions, accidentally attempted suicide, sharp objects, medical setting
word count â 7,6k
[ ⥠previous part. ] â [ ⥠next part. ]
Nobody liked the ending of things. Everyone liked beginning something believing or hoping it would help them reach a specific place. Still, that certainty stops once you get the spot you only dreamt about.
Endings were never your think. Everyone liked beginnings, it meant starting on a dream, creating hope, believing in a certain goal. But it all halts it's fairytale-like meaning when you don't know what to begin with.
High school ended in less than eight days, and you were wasting time with your girlfriends in the streets of Seoul, none of you with any ambitions for the future. All you could think of was which bars to sneak into and how to convince a tired convenience store employee on midnight duty to give you a pack of cigarettes for cheaper.
Uncertainty scared you, but it was so damn frustrating to find a career path that suited you. You werenât the smartest in class, you hated numbers, you were far from the most athletic, and frankly speaking, you hated studying in general. No one was going to accept a student with a bad rep anyway, even though most of the bad doings were done by your friends, you were just merely a bystander.
But what will you become if you cannot find the right path in time?
These wandering thoughts and âwhat ifs' were eating away at your sanity. Your drunk friend waved at you, signing you to another night of drinking all your insecurities away. You smiled at her, about to join the group when you heard a loud clatter behind you. A small elder who was collecting cartons onto his little cart fell to the ground, his frame getting smaller with each bathed breath you took.Â
You didn't know how you crossed the road in seconds. Your heart was still racing while you asked the elder if he was alright. You could still hear the ringing in your ear while you told him to follow your breathing pattern. He tried to grasp for something inside the cart, you leaped forward to find his bag hanging on the handle of the cart. But it was too late, the man was already out cold on the ground.
If what you felt before was anxiety, you are now in full worry. âSir, can you hear me? Please answer me if you can?â You heard his breathing but it started to sound more labored by the second. You searched his bag for any indication but found two unfamiliar types of medicine. You were not a pre-med student and stood frozen at the realization that you did not know how to help this elder.
âSomeone help! This man collapsed on the ground!â You yelled into the empty streets of Seoul at twilight. Everyone was busy zombie-ing themselves to a restaurant or club to relieve stress, the working class could not afford to save another person but themselves. You kept shouting for help, feeling the manâs pulse weakening. The sight was making your heartache.
âAre you alright?â You heard from your left, you nodded before taking the outstretched hand without looking, pulling the person down with you to observe the elder. He didnât seem to mind, immediately getting to work. âOkay, what happened?â You told him how you found him and how long you have stayed and watched his condition.
The stranger starts looking around, grabbing the elderâs bag and rummaging through his things as if looking for specific items. It is the first time you look at the stranger, and you realize it is a handsome stranger.Â
The points of his curly brown hair are slightly darker, soaked in sweat as if he came running. His nose had a soft round tip and his lips were upturned, a wide cupidâs bow engraved in his upper lip. You almost start counting the moles on his face before you realize what he might be looking for.
âA-are you looking for these?â Your outstretched hands contain the two unknown tubes of medicine. The stranger looks relieved and nods. He opens the cap and you realize it is a needle instead of a pod of pills. He stabs it into the leg of the elder with a force that shocks you, but his smile reassures you ever so slightly.
âCan you call an ambulance? The number is on that utility pole, I thinkââ He looks at the medication bottle for a second, âMister Hwang is going to be just fine, donât worry.â You nod, but your hands still tremble, the adrenaline leaving your body. The stranger holds you still, âYou did well. Mister Hwang is going to be okay thanks to you.â He gave you a warm smile and patted your head encouragingly.Â
When the ambulance arrived, the stranger took over the situation entirely. âHello, my name is Lee Donghyuck. Please go to Neo-Seoul Medical Center, Iâm a 2nd-year resident there.â The paramedic nodded and Haechan hopped onto the vehicle behind the stretcher. You watched as the back doors closed and the car drove away, the whole scene leaving you in awe.
The words he had spoken to you were still replaying in your mind, slowly woven into your heart like a design into a sweater that cannot be removed. For the first time in your life, you did not screw something up, you helped save a human and you succeeded. Haechan and the ambulance were long gone by now, but it was almost like the trail it left behind was highlighted in gold; you had found your career path in life thanks to him.
âĄ
Neo-Seoul Medical Center was one of the most prestigious university hospitals in all of South Korea. Standing in front of a hospital to start your career was unimaginable for you five years ago. And if it depended on your GPA back then, youâd have never been able to start a medical career at all. It helped that you had good study buddies who helped you with the selection exams as well as teachers who truly saw your good qualities behind all the natural clumsiness you radiated.
You smiled at the building once more before Chenle called your name, telling you to hurry up before you got late for your introduction week. He was one of the few close friends you made during nursing school. He was similar in the way he always went beyond for the people he cared for, but unlike you, he doesnât always act on his emotions.
Your introduction group consists of two other rookie nurses: Ningning and Sion. You werenât familiar with the two, but it wasnât unknown that Yizhou was the top student during your years in nursing school.Â
The receptionist pointed your group towards the eleventh floor where a head nurse would appoint you each to a department.
Once the elevator door opened, you were met by an administrative nurse who told you to wait a bit. The LED screen above the reception showed that there were several surgeries being performed right now. Your eyes widened at a familiar name between them.
Lead surgeon â Lee Donghyuck â General Surgery 00:02:10:37
He has not left this hospital despite all these years. A small smile creeps up your face. Ever since you decided to study nursing, you had secretly wondered if youâd ever get to work with him. The image of the two of you rushing to help patients always helped you ground yourself while preparing for another practical exam.Â
A familiar mop of dark brown curls passed your daydreaming state and you were quick to react. His scent, his hair, his soft features, and his moles; it was just like you remember. You start to realize that he hasnât moved, your hands unbeknownst to you holding onto the sleeve of his dark blue scrubs. He looks at you with confusion, about to speak but you beat him to it, almost in a hurry to tell him everything you wanted to him all these years before you lose your courage.
âDr. Donghyuck, Iâ Iâm so glad to see you again. Thanks to your help, I was able to see the path before me and worked hard for the past 5 years to get here. I am so happy to be able to enter the same hospital as you and look up to you asââ He holds up a hand, making you stop mid-sentence. He raises a brow and makes a clicking sound with his tongue.Â
âListen, I donât have time for this right now.â He looks at your badge and then your fellow rookie nurses behind you. âYou are the new rookie?â He scoffed, rolling his eyes before continuing, âOkay. Listen up, you guys, too. Do not ask stupid questions that you could have studied beforehand, do not waste doctorâs time, and â,â he looked straight at you, âDo not talk to me unless necessary. Iâve got better things to do.â You let go of his sleeve, your cheeks heating up with embarrassment and anger. Who the hell does this jerk think he is?
âSeems the rookies have met our fellow Donghyuckâ A female voice states, you look to your left to find a woman in purple scrubs next to your group. âHello rookies, my name is Karina Yu. Iâm the head nurse of the emergency department and your temporary mentor while you do the rotations. Now get out your little notepads, write down everything Iâm telling you, and make sure to ask if something is unclear. The emergency department isnât a place that goes slow and steady, if you notice something you must be fast on your feet and react quickly. Understood?â
âYes maâam!â
âNurse Karina is fine, by the way.â She smiled kindly before it dropped and she started to walk and talk like it was a military drill.Â
âĄ
âOkay, this is our weekly schedule board. We have it digitally but since the emergency department is about always being on the move, it would be too troublesome to have someone look it up every seven minutes. I added some ID pictures so you guys can easily distinguish which surgeon and doctor is who.
This is Lee Mark, he is a cardiac surgeon who often handles emergency cases since he just recently switched to CS from GS. The cardiology department is on the eighth floor, but you will find him in the doctorâs room of our department more often. If you have any questions, go to him and he will answer them in detail for you.
This fellow is Lee Donghyuck, he is from general surgery and the main surgeon you will work with here. Liu Yangyang is also a fellow GS specialist and the other surgeon you will meet the most often. Both the general surgery specialists are quite strict and meticulous in their work and it shows in the way that they will hold you accountable for any mistake you make. Remember, this is not nursing school anymore, you passed your exam: now it is real.
âYes, earlier you mentioned we will start rotations in the ER. Do all four of us start in the ER?â You ask, trying not to get too embarrassed by your little stutter.
âNo, from the spreadsheet I received only nurse Yizhou and Y/N will start in the ER. Nurse Chenle will assist Dr. Lee Mark in cardiology and Nurse Sion will join neurology and assist Dr. Qian Kun until the further rotation. The four of you will rotate around cardiology, neurology, and emergency as you have chosen these preferences. Of course, if in any case, those three departments end up not befitting your best qualities, you can apply for any of the other departments you want to try out. After your introductory period, you can decide which department you want to join.â The four of you nod at Karinaâs words.Â
âThe surgeons in our team seem to be young, do we not have any senior doctors in our team on site?â Ningning asks. Unlike the way you asked your question, Yizhou remains cool and focused, her hands writing down everything she hears while her eyes are trained on everything Karina points out.
âGood question, we do have young surgeons because they are exceptionally good and adaptive to the always-changing situations in the ER. Do not let their age fool you, Mark has already finished his fellowship and is only a humble step away from his next promotion. Haechan and Yangyang are both in their last stretches as well and have gained enough trust from the Chief of General Surgery dr. Kim Doyoung to work independently on ER cases while our emergency surgeon Dr. Lee Taeyong is on leave.â
âĄ
The soft melody of a random R&B song plays in the living room while you clean the fog of your mirror. You look at your tired reflection, but muster up the energy to smile back at yourself. As much as today went by fairly peacefully, you canât shake off the unfortunate encounter with Dr. Donghyuck. Was five years enough time to change an entire personality, or did your young and naive self paint him in a light he was never meant to be seen in?
âY/N, where did you put the remote? I swear you never place it back at our designated spot!â Winter complains, already in the doorway of your shared bathroom to give you an earful about designated spots for shared items. But every word she planned to say dies down when she sees your face.
âY/N? Is something wrong? Didnât your first day go well?â She takes your hand and leads you to the couch, two cups of warm tea already on the coffee table. âWhat happened?â She asks after you havenât answered her first question.
âItâs nothing. Just some nervesâ You try to shrug it off, but your roommate keeps staring at you with suspicion.Â
âBabe, as a third-year nurse, I have already honed the ability to sense lies whenever I ask my patients about medication. I donât want to play nurse when Iâm at home as well. So spill, what is upsetting little spring sunshine?â You crack a small smile at the nickname; your overexcitement on the first day of moving in made the apartment owner laugh, she said a little spring sunshine will move in with the resident winter princess. Since then, Winter and you have started to call each other those nicknames to become more comfortable with each other as roommates and friends.Â
âRemember why I joined nursing school in the first place?â You asked, looking down at your takeout and poking in it with your fork. âYeah, you fell in love with a resident and wanted to become a nurse so you could work beside him,â Winter answered breezily, slurping a long strand of noodle loudly as she looked for you to continue.Â
âDonât make it sound like Iâm doing all this over a crush! I truly got inspired to get into this work field!â
âWas anything I said false though?â You didnât answer. âPoint proven.â
"Anyway!" You try to continue the subject so the two of you wonât go down that tangent. âI met him today and he became a completely different person. Iâm not saying I expected him to be 100% the same, but it is kind of sad that I couldnât find traces of the guy who inspired me in him anymore.â Winter hums, putting the plastic fork to her lips.
âHold up, you met him today? If you were in intro group fourâŠand you start rotation in the ERâŠâ Minjeong taps the crease between her brows, trying to piece the strings of information together. After a few moments of silence, she gasps at the realization.
âYour first love is Lee Donghyuck isnât it?â You nod, the burdened expression on your roommateâs face unsettles you. âYou look at me like I made a big mistake, is he in a relationship or something?â
âNo,â You felt relieved for some stupid reason. âBut Donghyuck isnât exactly the type of guy I imagined you being into. I thought you meant Mark Lee when you first talked about your crush.â
âWhatâs wrong with Donghyuck?â
âI want to say itâs a rumor, but I saw it firsthand once with a rookie nurse a few years ago. A nurse quit after just a week because Donghyuck gave him a hard time. Be perfect or he will lecture you until youâre about to hand in your resignation letter.â You pale at your roommateâs words, deeply regretting every course of action you took today, including entering the hospital. âBut Iâm sure itâs just a facade, so donât lose hope yet!â She tries to cheer you up, but it is already too late. You have dug your own grave.
âĄ
As if the gods wanted to mess with you for a bit, you were assigned to assist Donghyuckâs patients. To say your first week went bad was an understatement. Karina was right when she said Donghyuck has a low tolerance for questions he gets annoyed at anything relatively quickly.
On your second day shadowing him, you noticed that he had long legs. Legs that do not wait for you and your cart to keep up. He gave you a side-eye when you eventually arrived at the right room, you also got lost because he didnât wait up.
(âIf this were an emergency alarm, the patient might have already died. Keep your head in the game, dreamer.â He mockingly taps his writing clipboard against your cart before turning around and smiling brightly at his patients. You feel like you were fuming from the ears at his act.)
On your fourth day in, you discovered a little hiding area where you could take a break without Donghyuck throwing mean remarks at you. You figured, if he canât find you, he canât talk bad about you.
The little box of cookies you found in a drawer was already half gone once you heard two people enter the room, a small curtain separating you from them.Â
âDude, I think that Nurse Y/N might have a crush on you!â Dr. Liu said with excitement. It has been a while since romance blossomed for his friend and the littlest indication that it might happen again made him happy.Â
Donghyuck raised his brow, âWho?â, and Yangyangâs smile drowned away. He doesnât even know your name? âNurse Y/N, she is â dude?" Donghyuck shakes his head. âFor real? The nurse who has been assisting you for the past four days?âÂ
âOh, the dreamer. I doubt sheâd have a crush on me.â Maybe it was because you couldnât see his face, but your delusion might have caught a bit of a somber tone in his voice.
âBesides, the chances of something happening between me and her is 0.00001%. Any other rookie might even be better than her.â Lee Donghyuck has proven once again that he is hard to empathize with.
(âHave you seen my chocobi cookies, by the way? I was planning on eating them but I couldnât find them in my snack drawer.â)
You finished his nasty cookies with no regrets.Â
Your fifth day came around and you were doing your rounds without Donghyuck, the doctor was yet to return from a four-hour surgery and thus you ended up doing the rounds with Mark.Â
Although Mark was a bit too much of a talker, it was a nice change of pace compared to the GS specialist who criticized your every move.Â
âYou just have to look through the words,â Mark said after he finally made you share your worries with him. The two of you already arrived at the third room for the current check-up round.
âIâd rather not look straight into his eyes. If looks could kill, I wouldnât have made it past day one, dr. Leeâ You slide open the door and greet the patients warmly. In the room were four patients from a traffic accident that happened on your second day. Because it happened late at night, Mark was already scheduled for a long surgery for pediatrics, causing Donghyuck to do back-to-back surgeries on these four patients.Â
Minnie, a high school girl, greeted the two of you with a timid smile, her eyes lingered longer on Mark before meeting yours again.
âDr. Donghyuck is currently occupied, so Dr. Lee Mark over here is guiding me today.â You explained to the girl, the feeling that she might have a crush on Donghyuck was unbelievable but also kind of cute.
âShe has been waiting to thank him since yesterday evening.â Riku, a college student, commented, earning a glare from the girl which caused him to laugh. You hum while prepping Mrs. Choi for a blood sample. After you finish filling two small tubes for the tests, she signals you to come closer.
âDr. Donghyuck allowed her boyfriend to visit her yesterday, even though visiting hours were already over. The academy hours these days cause students to finish their studies at late hours.â You look back at Minnie, noticing a singular rose in a tiny vase next to a small teddy bear on her nightstand. The scene reminds you of a sweet youth drama.
âHow is your appetite, Mrs. Choi? I noticed you didnât eat much the last few days, if you want, I can alternate a few things on your menu plan to help get your appetite back?â The older woman softly shakes her head. âNo need, the doctor gave me some stomach medicine yesterday. I feel much better now.â
Although you added a small comment about Mrs. Choiâs appetite into your nurse log before you clocked out for the evening, you didnât expect Donghyuck to take the note as seriously as he did. Writing up medicine for patients always required a lot more paperwork, and your seniors in nursing always recommended trying to minimize the prescriptions doctors had to make.Â
âIâm glad it is working out, Mrs. Choi. Let me know if you need me to adjust anything, alright?â The lady smiled before turning to Mark. âThe other doctor and nurse Y/N make such an interesting duo, donât you think? They remind me of my first love.â You were already halfway through the room to check on the last patient, the comment made you stop in your tracks a second too long. Mark laughs, âWhat was your first love like Mrs. Choi? I wonder how Donghyuck and Y/N compare to it.â
You try to focus on the teenagerâs stats, Jisoo is also seemingly intrigued by what Mrs. Choi has to say about her first love and late husband.
âWe were like opposites. Chan was always driven by his ambitions, he never knew when to stop and enjoy the slow and steadiness of the world. After we met, he used to tell me how I re-taught him how to live life.â Mrs. Choiâs gaze was fixed on the window, but you knew that she was also holding back tears, it was evident in the way she spoke about her late husband.Â
You finish up Jisooâs check-up before returning to Mrs. Choiâs bedside, squatting down and giving her hand a gentle squeeze. âHe sounds like a love worth spending a lifetime with, Mrs. Choi.â Her gaze turns to you and you can see the glossiness of her eyes. âThank you.â She whispers before lying down again, Mark and you bid the other patients goodbye before leaving the room.
âYou handled that situation well, nurse Y/N,â Mark says after a beat of silence. You give him a sad smile, âShe lost so much in the past few days, dr. Lee. If I can lighten that pain for even a moment, I will.â
âYou live up to that speech dr. Nakamoto gave on your second day, huh?â You smile, thinking back at the random visit of the pediatrician. He was looking for a specific person (you later figured that person to be Mark) but got thrust into giving the rookie nurses a motivational speech by nurse Jaemin.
(âI donât think Iâm in any position to give a speech, dr. Na.â Yuta eyed the nurses with an awkward laugh, making Jaemin, the ER doctor, challenge him further. âThese nurses will rotate into your department soon, anyway. Besides, I doubt youâd come all the way down from the tenth floor to disturb us in our busiest hours, right Dr. Nakamoto?â)
Doctors treat illnesses, nurses heal patients.
Although he probably said those words without much thought behind them, you found new meaning behind those words. Sure, ever since working with Donghyuck, many of your rather superficial motivations disappeared into thin air. But Dr. Nakamotoâs words were a good reminder that Donghyuck wasnât your only reason.Â
Itâs patients like Mrs. Choi, those who donât only suffer bodily injury or illness, but also have a wound to the heart that needs healing. The surgical scars will eventually fade, but without genuine and continued support and care, a patient might carry painful memories for a long time. To you, soothing their hearts for even a moment was a reward worthy of suffering through the nursing program, and even Dr. Donghyuckâs never-ending remarks.
âĄ
The taste of Winterâs cooking was one you could never quite get enough of, the girl was always in her element in the kitchen and it was evident in her food. Tonight you were also accompanied by Karina. Although you already knew Winter had invited a friend over, it didnât quite dawn upon you that the nurse friend she mentioned from time to time was going to be the head nurse of your department. The awkwardness from your greetings earlier still lingers ever so slightly in the back of your head, but you try to pay it no mind. It did help that none of you talked about work, rather giggling away with every sip of wine as you talked about your college adventures.
âYou know, I think you will do well in the ER, Y/N. If you can handle someone as cold as Donghyuck, I donât doubt that even the most enraged Karen will get to you.â Karina says in between hiccups. Winter is already leaning on her arm, slowly drifting off with occasional mumbles while Karina keeps rambling on about random thoughts she has.Â
You werenât a heavy drinker, but luckily Winter had opted for wine (the two women had already finished a few shots of soju before you came home) which you were able to handle.
âI think Donghyuck truly has a stick up his ass like he knows the ER is heavily understaffed and yet he is driving any nurse he sees away.â Karina huffs, another large gulp of red wine.Â
âItâs one thing to feel entitled because youâre a good doctor, but itâs another to assume every nurse to be at that level from the start, right Y/N?â You try to pry the wine glass away from her hands, but she downs the entire glass before you can.
âKarina, are you going to be okay?â You watch as she stands up and points her finger at the decorative succulent on your dining table. âThis plant is dying, itâs withering away.â It was a fake plant.
âI will call a cab for you, Karina. Where do you live?â The woman seems to acknowledge the time and her condition, already stumbling into your hallway to grab her shoes. You follow behind her with her belongings. She laughs a little too loud at your questions and points upstairs. âIâm alright, Y/N. Iâm your upstairs neighbor!â She chirps happily as she spreads her arms in the air before blacking out. Great.
The trip is anything but easy: the elevator decides to take everyone else to their respective floors before arriving at the sixth floor, and of course, Karina keeps wiggling in your hold while the other residents keep side-eyeing you in your pajamas.
Since she didnât quite tell you which unit she lived in, you had to walk past each front door like a creep with Karinaâs arms nearly killing your neck. None of the unit numbers 601-604 had her surname on it. You were praying that you didnât have to go all the way down the hall to unit 610 before you finally read her name underneath unit number 605, right next to Lee Donghyuckâs name.Â
You froze, trying to process what this meant, but Karina had already woken up and was loudly banging on the front door of unit 605. You were torn between leaving her here, but she didnât quite look sober enough to stand steadily.
The door opens after a few loud bangs from Karina, an annoyed â nothing new there â Donghyuck opens the door. His hair was damp and he was wearing grey sweats and a black shirt, a towel around his neck, and black-framed glasses adorning his face â definitely new. It takes everything in you to not admit he looks like a cute nerd in those glasses.
He was about to hurl a mean comment. At this point, you are pro at recognizing this. Donghyuck stops when his eyes settle on you. He raises a brow, and you only reply to his wordless questions with a sheepish smile.
âYour girlfriend had dinner over at our place, sorry. I put some hangover medicine in the pocket of her jacket for her to take in the morning. See you tomorrow, Dr. Lee!â And you ran away, accidentally pushing Karina into Donghyuckâs arms, but you werenât going to stay there a second longer than needed.
Even though you thought you were pretty sure that you didnât like Donghyuck anymore, the new information that he lived upstairs with his girlfriend still left a bitter taste in your mouth.Â
âĄ
You were transferring your notes into the nurse logs when Karina entered your little cubicle. âHey Y/N, are you busy?â You shake your head, moving to the side so the head nurse can comfortably stand in your little workspace.
âNormally I wouldnât talk about personal affairs during working hours, but I wanted to apologize for my behavior yesterday. I was upset at my boyfriend and when Winter said the two of you were going to stay at home and just casually drink, I couldnât help but ask to join. I needed some company for a bit.â She starts to explain, and you start to notice that drunk Karina and sober Karina arenât much different.Â
The scary image of head nurse Karina fades away as you watch her ramble, animatedly making her points with her facial expressions and hands. You smile at the sight, realizing the subtle cuteness of Karinaâs true character. âItâs okay, nurse Karina. We all have ups and downs in relationships.â Karina shyly nods, âI also have a little request to make.â You let her continue.Â
âPlease donât tell our colleagues about Donghyuck and I living together, itâs embarrassing.â Although you were confused as to why it would be embarrassing, you promised her you wouldnât tell a soul. She gives you a grateful smile before her pager goes off. Before you turn back fully to focus on your logs again, Karina calls your name. âYou can just call me Karina when we are alone. I think we are way past the formalities after what happened.âÂ
Karina disappears behind the doors and your polite smile falters slightly. You wonder why Winter and Mark didnât warn you about the relationship between Karina and Donghyuck, feeling stupid that you were so open about your admiration for the man in front of people who knew he was already off the market.Â
It wasnât like you were full-on pursuing him, but it does hurt to know that his type and you were so far off, evidently marking that 0.00001% to be true. Karina was extremely pretty, smart, and good at her job. Sure, she was a rambler and loud drunk, but she easily carried herself in confidence.
A soft cough pulls you back from your thoughts. Donghyuck leans against the wall, handing you his clipboard. âI saw you were filling out the logs, can you upload this chart to Rikuâs profile?â You wordlessly take the papers and start typing, expecting him to leave after he says what he needs, but you donât hear any footsteps. Before you can ask, he starts speaking again.Â
âSheâs my cousin.â His words were rushed and Maeda Rikuâs chart had already taken most of your attention, making the only sound coming out of your mouth a confused âhuh?â.
âKarina, she is my cousin. Iâm not dating anyone. Thatâs what I wanted to tell you yesterday before you ran off.â If someone told you you would see an awkward Donghyuck less than two weeks into the job, you wouldnât believe them. The man had a sharp tongue and â just like his cousin â carried himself with certainty, attitude, and incredible skills that steadily established his dominance in the department. But for some unknown reason, he was avoiding eye contact and fumbling with something in his pockets in front of you.Â
âOh.âÂ
âI gave her the hangover cure, it helped.â He added after way too many seconds, still fumbling with his white coat pocket. You give him a weak smile, not knowing how to act in this strange situation. The air was not tense like it usually was, but it was far from comfortable.
âI got you the same one.â His hands were too fast, but the bottle on your desk and his empty pockets prove that he had been fumbling with the hangover medicine all this time.Â
âThank youâŠâ The act of kindness (?) made you speechless.Â
âYou were reaching for your head a few times while doing rounds. Itâs disturbing my work and the patients. If you canât handle alcohol, donât drink.â And the Lee Donghyuck you knew has ruined the moment again.
âI donât think I deserve scolding when your cousin ended up like that.â Your remark earned a half-hearted scoff from him. You hated the way your heart started beating like your younger self again.
âJust drink it and get ready to join me for your OR testing.âÂ
âĄ
The biting winter air felt like tiny pricks against your exposed skin, but you remained seated on the cold wooden bench while hugging your bottle of water tightly. Your OR testing didnât go wrong, but it didnât go smoothly either.Â
It wasnât necessarily what Donghyuck said, but it was the way that he said those words to you in a room filled with your peers and other colleagues. He was complaining about how handling different tools wasnât just about speed, but also about precision, how you were too hasty and could cause dangerous accidents. How he wouldnât tolerate it if it were to happen in his OR and how you werenât going in there anywhere soon.
It hurts that just when you finished painting him as an awful person, he started to make you doubt him again, causing his words to twist as painfully as they were the first few days as his assisting nurse.Â
You werenât a big fan of crying, it felt like losing control over your feelings, but you couldnât help it when youâre so deep into your self-pity party.Â
âNurse Y/N?â The voice of an uncertain Minnie makes you look up, staring into the eyes of an equally teary-eyed teenage girl. You try to wipe away your tears in a hurry to attend to the girl, but she just hands you a handkerchief with a sympathetic smile.
âYou know, crying does make everything a bit better, donât you think?â She asks through a smile that doesnât reach her eyes. You breathe in some more air, feeling better despite being spotted by one of your patients. The two of you donât say much at first, sitting in a comfortable silence while staring at the few white dots in your pitch-black sky.Â
âBoys are stupid.â She suddenly says, catching you off guard.Â
âWhy would you say that?âÂ
âThey just are, I think girls cry more often because of them than any other reason.â She explains nonchalantly, making you grin at your words.
âCanât disagree on that.â You mumble.
After a while, you returned inside to finish one last welfare round before switching out with the night shift nurses. You greet Karina as you pass the nurse station, she holds you back by your arm. âI had a word with Donghyuck about what happened during testing, are you alright?â Admittedly, you were still a bit mad at his choice of actions, but you couldnât blame him for correcting you on something you did wrong.Â
âI will get over it, but thank you for looking out for me.â You grabbed your necessities and walked through the dimmed hospital corridors, making your way quietly through the resting areas of your patients. Most were already asleep, some mumbled soft words while you gently checked their stats and some even bid you a good night before turning around to sleep.Â
Once you made your way into room 4, you expected Minnie to have returned when you opened your curtain, but her bed was still empty. You frown, remembering how she mentioned how cold it was and that she should quickly return and sleep the night away.Â
After a few confused moments at her bedside, you notice the small but important details surrounding her little sleeping space.Â
The rose she received days ago bore no petals and the little teddy bear was stuffed inside the small trash can. The conversation from before replays in your mind, and you take out the handkerchief she had handed you.Â
You recognize the handkerchief was part of a goodie bag for a small promotion the hospital held once in a while. The words 2023 on the embroidery make you speed walk towards the storage room where older items were kept for PR.Â
The storage room wasnât a huge mess, but it was evident that someone had roughly opened the stored tissue papers and used a few. Your heart ached, thinking how the young girl must have cried in here, feeling lonely and betrayed.
Without thinking, you put out your pager and send out a notification for a missing patient, running towards the terrace where you last saw her. You kept calling her name, heart hammering in your chest as different thoughts spun in your mind.Â
Different nurses and medical staff on the floor start spreading and calling out for Minnie, everyone equally worried for the young teenage girl.
You end up on the eighth floor, briefly informing Mark before rushing off into another hallway, feeling more and more anxious with each passing second. You hear a click from nearby and rush towards the sounds, opening the door to a balcony wordlessly as you freeze, Minnieâs hands on the railing and a devastating look in her eyes.
âMinnieââ
"Don't!" Her voice shakes as she puts one leg over the railing. âI donât want to hear about how young I am, how much life I have to live. What is the use if no one will love me?â
âWhy would no one love you?â You ask softly, still stuck in place, afraid that one wrong move will make her do something irreversible.Â
âBecause Iâm permanently broken. Because I have a scar that will never heal. Because I will have to return to the hospital every few years.â Minnie wasnât directly looking at you, she was staring down the levels, the tears in her eyes dropping down eight floors.
âBut it will heal, Minnie. Both your scar and your life.â You carefully take a step, noticing how she doesnât flinch at your movement. âRight now, you are in a very tough battle, wanting to look the prettiest for a boy you like, donât you?â She is quiet.
âAnd having him see you in a hospital gown, having him not see the best version of you, it hurts, doesnât it?â She closes her eyes, whispering a small and shaky âyesâ, but you heard her.
âI used to think like that, too. I used to think that once I meet the love of my life, I have to be perfect already so that he will fall in love with me.â Minnie doesnât react, even though you are certain she knows youâre closing your distance slowly.
âBut I found out, quite recently, that I donât want to be perfect to be loved. I want him to see me at my weakest, and see how I fight my way through my weaknesses. Donât you want to show him that you are a fighter, too?â Minnie looks up at you, although she doesnât say it, her eyes tell you everything you need to know.
âThank you, Minnie. Give me your hand and Iâll help you down slowly, is that alright?â She nods, giving you a hand before turning around. The action makes her foot slip and she slides off the railing with a scream. You lunge forward, holding her hands as tight as you can.Â
âItâs okay, trust me, I will not let go.â You grunt, trying your best to lift her, but she is too heavy for you to pull up alone. âSomebody, help!â You shout out in between reassuring words for Minnie. You feel her trying to climb up, causing her grip on yours to loosen. You shout for help again, begging the skies to help this little girl. You were fighting a rough battle with exhaustion, using every fiber in your being to keep the hold on the girlâs hands.Â
You start to lose grip, you shout out for help one more time before you feel a warm body against you, arms surrounding yours and holding onto Minnieâs forearms.
âI got youâ Donghyuck speaks to you softly before raising his voice for Minnie to hear. âMinnie, I will count to three, and Nurse Y/N, and I will pull you up. I need you to use your legs to climb up, okay? Everything is alright. We got you.â
You finally look at him and he nods counting to three before you gather all your remaining strength to lift Minnie. The three of you land on the ground of the balcony, most of the landing softened by Donghyuck embracing you both.Â
Minnie holds onto you tightly, crying into your chest as she keeps mumbling apologies. You close your eyes to keep your tears in, soothing the girl with strokes through her hair. âEverything will be fine from now on, Minnie. You are a fighter, remember? You will show everyone that you are a fighter, okay?â Donghyuck stands up, typing on his pager before the medical staff comes through the door with a wheelchair, taking the shocked teenager from your arms.Â
You are still shaken from everything that happened in the past 10 minutes, your legs and arms have completely given up after all the adrenaline wore out. Donghyuck wordlessly helps you on your feet. âLetâs go, my shift ended as well. Iâm taking us home.â His voice was soft again, just like when he told you that he got you in your most fearful moment.Â
He tugs you forward, but you donât budge causing him to shoot you a questioning expression. âI canât walk anymore.â
You didnât have any ulterior motives when you said those words, but getting a piggyback home from Donghyuck did feel nice.
It still felt odd, you were sure a week ago that you hated his guts, but now and then, he made your heart flutter like five years ago. The thoughts confused you, making you unsure about how you should act around the man. Avoiding him wasnât an option for now, although you knew your rotation in the emergency department was coming to an end soon.Â
âYou have potential.â He suddenly speaks as your apartment complex comes into sight. âYou arenât as fast as Nurse Ningning or as knowledgeable as Nurse Chenle, but you notice the small things about patients.â
âI doubt small things matter as much as accuracy and knowledge in this work field, Dr. Lee.â You mumble into his shoulder.
âYou might think so, but I know for a fact that if you didnât notice those things, we might have lost a lovely person today.â It was hard to find the right words to say, so you stayed quiet and let him continue.
âYour attentiveness saved a life, Y/N. Donât ever think any less of yourself as a nurse.â Normally, youâd assume he is saying this to mock you, but even without seeing his face, you know he said those words sincerely.Â
âThank you for finding me, Dr. Lee.â You say after he steps out of the elevator on the fifth floor. âItâs hard to miss you when you still shout like an endangered teen girl.â Your heart skips a beat.
âSo you remember me?â You donât know why youâre holding your breath, but you are.
âI didnât at first, but after all the hints and pieces I got from why you joined the nursing program, together with what happened today, I just followed the string of information and realized that young girl was you.â
He has stopped in front of your apartment and you try to hurry off his back before your roommate sees you, but he doesnât let you go as smoothly as you thought. Your roommate seemed to have sensed you because the door swung open. Winter looks at you, your arms around his neck, and then Donghyuck himself. Before she can open her mouth to say anything, you rip yourself from Donghyuckâs hold â ignoring the immediate absence of his warmth â and wave him goodbye, slamming the door in his face and shushing Winter.
âGirl, you act fast.â Minjeong throws you a smug grin.Â
âPlease donât even start, Winterâ Unfortunately for you, her grin only widens.
The two of you continue to argue, unbeknownst to you, Donghyuck was still outside, listening to your little arguments with a chuckle. He stops himself from mumbling how amusing your reaction was, the word âcuteâ almost escaping his lips. His footsteps start echoing again after your voices fade away, heading home in high need of some back pain-relieving patches.

cute dates with boyfriend!wayv
kun invites you over to his apartment to cook dinner and have a relaxing wine night. except maybe it wasn't that relaxing since you both turn it into a tipsy masterchef cooking competition. although you are quite intimidated by his cooking skills, you don't let that stop you from trying your best (which wasn't very good). kun, being the nicest guy ever, lets you win. the winner chooses the loser's punishment. you make him wear an embarrassing apron that says "kiss the cook but don't touch the buns" kun complies and prays the pictures you took of him on your phone never end up in yangyang's hands, or else he would never hear the end of it.
ten loves volunteering at the animal shelter, especially a shelter with lots of cats who need extra love and attention. you and ten spend the whole day playing with the cats, feeding them, cleaning out their cages, and brushing their fur. he almost wants to adopt yet another cat or two or three, but you gently remind him this isn't in real life neko atsume so he cannot collect all the cats in the world (unfortunately). ten's eyes soften when he sees you cuddling a senior kitty and he can't help but think to himself he wants to raise many cats with you in the future.
winwin would take you to the beach on a sunny day to enjoy the light breeze and salty air until the sun sets. you notice how he doesn't even try to hide the fact that he is checking you out. winwin compliments you endlessly and gives you one of his jackets to cover up because he hates the thought of other people staring at you. throughout the day, you help each other reapply sunscreen, and you giggle whenever he struggles to squeeze the tube that barely has any sunscreen left, because it sounds exactly like someone after they eat taco bell. during moments he thinks you aren't looking, winwin manages to find a pretty pearly white seashell among the billions of grains of sand and gives it to you.
xiaojun would invite you over to his place and you guys spend the whole time building legos and geeking out over the newest flower and plant lego sets. he starts sweating when your hand accidentally touches his hand while reaching for the same lego piece, even though you guys are literally dating. silly ahh boy. after you both finish building the set in one sitting, xiaojun makes you one of his famous oreo mug cakes, and he makes sure to lightly blow on the spoonful of batter to cool it down before feeding it to you and watching you eat it (he is so whipped for you)
hendery would take you to a hong kong style cafe. it's cozy and cute, and has lots of history behind how the shop came to be what it is today. you have trouble deciding what to order since you are unfamiliar with cantonese food but hendery excitedly explains each dish in detail just for you. once you decide what to get, hendery orders for you in cantonese, which makes you fall in love with him all over again. his eyes light up when you show interest in learning a few canto phrases and he feels his heart melt a little when you repeat after his words and ask if your pronounciation was okay.
yangyang loves going to the arcade section in the amusement park. the bright, colorful lights, silly circus music, and sound effects from the machines makes him feel like he's reliving his childhood again. yangyang tries to show off his claw machine skills because he wants to impress you. he literally tries so hard and finally wins a plushie for you after his like eleventh attempt. while yangyang is rambling on about how the "claw machine was rigged" and how "it wasn't a skill issue" on his part, you give him a quick kiss on the cheek, which makes him shut up immediately and start blushing furiously.

how wayv's first kiss with you would be like

pairing: wayv x reader
kun
after a romantic dinner. he drives you home from taking you to your date with him at a fancy dinner he had arranged, wanting you to show how he really loves you and would want to take the relationship into the next step. he walks you to the front porch of your house, standing near the doorstep. before he says goodbye, he says how much he enjoyed the date, and you say the same. there is a still sound of silence of him staring at you. then, he leans in to capture your lips to his. the rhythm of your mouths moving against each other is slow, but good enough for the both of you to feel the butterflies in your stomachs. he smiles at you when you pull away, and then his hand reached for your own, kissing the back of your palm before he leaves the neighborhood. kun will never forget such a memorable moment.
ten
during a game of spin the bottle. at first he laughs, staring at the empty wine bottle landing in your direction. with the rest of the players anticipating, he isn't afraid to back out. he hates being called a coward. he makes no hesitation before smashing his lips against yours. there's still the taste of alcohol both of you consumed just moments ago. besides the liquor, he also feels drunk with the way he keeps pressing his lips deeper and his tongue swiping on your bottom lip as a permission for more access. ten merely forgets the audience watching him, focusing entirely to make you feel good and pleased. when he pulls away, he gets a good view of your lips, smeared and coated with his own saliva, and lipstick smudged from the corners of your mouth. seeing you in that state gives him a satisfied look on his face, a smug creeping up from his lips.
winwin
saying goodbye to him. sicheng is given the opportunity to finally pursue the passion he loves, but it hurts him to know that he needs to leave where he already finds and calls homeâyou. both of you stand before the pane glass doorframes of the airport, sicheng's hand holds onto the handle of his luggage, while the other never leaves yours. it's all going too fast. the grip on your hand tightens. you notice the way he's trying to hold to his emotions, how hard he's trying to stifle his sobs. he feels you return the same tightness on his hand, assuring him that everything will be fine. a hand slowly creeps up to gently touch his already stained cheeks. he's going to miss you, so much. sicheng's hand clasps around the hand where you touch him, pulling it down. and there, you feel his plump lips on yours. it's trembling, and of course, it's sad. you don't tell him to stay through your reciprocation, but instead, it tells him to go, to chase what he loves.
xiaojun
acting out a kiss scene. it's the first rehearsal of the play the casts are going to act in, including the two of you. it's no surprise when both of you find out to be the leads of the play. dejun thinks that it will go as smoothly as possible, given the fact that the two of you are comfortable with each other of everything, and you think so too. as all of you are reading the script, the director reminds you of the kiss scenes, so when the actual practice came, dejun tells himself that the kiss is and only for professional purposes. he composes himself before standing in front of you with a smile. you say your lines, enunciating them word for word with feelings to embody the character as he does the same. his hands reaches for your own just like what it says on the script, and wasting no time, he plants a kiss on your lips. you don't move, but he feels his stomach doing the somersaults. all he can think about at this very moment is your soft lips, your grip on his hand tightens, your eyelashes tickling his cheeksâthen it's all gone when you pull away. looking at each other for a few seconds, a sudden fit of laughter bursts out from the two of you. both of you suppress your giggles when the director yells, telling you and dejun to stop laughing and concentrate on the script.
hendery
out of curiosity. he stares at you with a surprised expression on his face after hearing you ask how a kiss feels like. it's not like he doesn't know how to kiss someone as he had gained experiences from previous relationships, and clearly this was your first. his mind go dizzy when you ask him to kiss you. he isn't sure if it's only his mind playing him, but with a couple slaps across his face, it's not a dream. before kissing you, hendery makes sure to ask if you're still okay with the idea, never forgetting to seek for your consent. with a hand on your neck and the other to cup your cheek, your lips are on his. the lingering touch of your hands on his chest traveling around his neck causes him to smile in between the kiss. he also makes sure that you're satisfied with the kiss he shares with you, in a way that will make you feel good and relieve to know that you just had the best first kiss ever given by your own friend. hendery can't seem to sleep the following nights, replaying the scene over and over again, as he starts to fall in love with you.
yangyang
in the heat of the moment. he understands why you're mad at him for completely ruining your date with a person you recently talked to. yangyang warns you over again that the guy isn't good for you, that his background isn't something that's worth to be with. he watches you pace around the room, telling him that he has no right to deny a relationship you want to have, telling him that he should mind his own business. he couldn't do that. he knows what's best for you because he cares for your happiness. if it weren't for him, you will be trapped in a toxic unbearable relationship that might emotionally and mentally break you. what he wants for you to realize that there is one who could actually treat and love you betterâhim. yangyang grabs you by the shoulders, snapping you out. you break free from his tight grip, wanting to turn around and leave the room. that is until you feel his hand tug your arm back to face him as he finally smashes his lips against yours. the kiss is nowhere near sweet and full of passion. it's rough, lips smacking against each other, teeth scraping the skin and muscle of your tongues, and short hot breaths filling the quiet room. he's angry, you're angry, but neither of you pull away.

i need more of manipulative yangyang, just gaslighting u and u falling for absolutely everything he does
I put it as first person at first bcs it helps me write better so if you see an I or my anywhere, pls ignore it.. and tell me.
THIS IS CONNECTED TO THIS
cw: manipulation, forced breeding, the smallest daddy kink (literally mentioned once), rough sex, yangyang has a breeding kink, dumbification, baby trapping, DEGRADATION, dubcon elements.
Your toothbrush laid discarded in the sink, veins sprawled and protruded through your hand gripped on the sink for dear life. Yangyang's thrusts were quick and relentless, chasing his own pleasure as his cock never left within 3 inches of your cervix. You were drooling and murmuring curses and pleas under your breath, going dumb to his advantage and liking; your finger tips turned pale as your mind melted away to pure bliss.
âyangââ you attempted to hiccup but his unyielding hand found your poor scalp. Your teeth clenched, an electric shock sprawled from your scalp to your neck, your walls clenched and unclenched around his rushed thrusts. The ridge of his tip kissed your cervix, pounding and abusing it. There was an illusioning (? forgot the word) popping sound of his length tearing through your narrow passage and the slick that provided the easy slide, caked around your two holes.
âyangâ pleaââ his thrusts halted. His cock stayed nudged deep inside of you, your hole tried to size up around his wide base. The humidity of the bathroom that clung to your skin was a big contrast to the wind from the opened window, showing a view of the bustling city of Taipei.
âI give you everything you want but you can't take a simple fuck? no wonder why he couldn't fucking deal with you.â his eyes, for the first time meet yours. His glare sent alarming butterflies to your stomach. âyou don't fucking care about me, huh?â he pushed your dizzy head over the sink, birds and stars flew above and around it.
âsâ too earlyââ you slurred, the saliva bubbling up in your mouth once his hand yanks your hair even harder; spine strained as your head tried to meet wth his hand. His eyes widened, eyebrows furrowed in absolute rage; protruding a slight whimper from your lips at his newfound aura. âI spend thousands on you everyday and you treat me like this?!â the tip of your nose burned before unwanted tears brewed and fell into the sink, blending in with the running faucet water.
âyou're so fucking annoying when you cry. well guess what, you can't get everything you want sometimes, pretty face.â his sharp canines glinted through the clean, white light of the bathroom, more butterflies started to bloom in the pits of your stomach.
You felt nauseous knowing that this was the words coming out of the mouth of the male that bought pendants and took you out shopping whenever he could, the same man that you were even willing enough to leave your friends and family for to a foreign country was just as willing to trap you.
You scrutinized the taunting jade gem ring on your finger, it looks dull. The said finger folds unconsciously; tucking the shame away but the slight burn of the intricate silver swirls and details of the ring only stung into your knuckle.
You'll never forget.
â'm sorry, you just caught me off guard and you scared me..â you mustered up a small mumble before he slammed his hand on the sink. You flinched away with a yelp; pushing his cock out of your leaking hole slightly with a clench.
âyou're fucking overreacting again, stop that!â nodding your head mindlessly, but you won't even bother to look at the reflection. It'll just shove that guilt deeper down your throat, seething and burning. You sniffled, chest heaving painfully as tears fell relentlessly from your red, irritated waterline; if it wasn't disgusting enough, snot lined the top of your thick lip.
âfucking disgustingââ his hand pushed the back of your neck, maneuvering your head rather aggressively towards the sink; your shoulders at a strained angle. His hips met with your ass once more, your walls ached pleasurably once his tip knocked into your cervix and your nails scratched against the marble. The warmth of his cock now feeling more intruding than pleasing to a point but the line between the two was blurred and unknown.
Your hipbone became rashed and abused against the counters edge, mind starting to mush into nothing again. You found yourself muttering and blabbering all sorts of things, having no fucking idea what you were doing.
You were an incoherent mess, screaming, whimpering, moaning, thighs clenching and unclenching along with your plumate walls.
But in reality, the thought of children terrorized you. Being too young to even be a mother, barely even living your life to the fullest before you were trapped with him.
âmâ gonna cum inside ya, yeah? gonna be stuck with me forever..â he said, one of his vacant hands travels to the lone ring before sliding it off without you even knowing. âplease.. I want itâ I want it so bad~â yangyang snickered at the pleads, his hand travels to your neck; pushing your back flush against his clammy torso.
Your tits bounced with the rhythm of his thrusts, clit throbbing consistently; âmmfâ fuck!â he grunted loudly, his balls slapping then slipping into your passage. You screeched at the tense feeling of being practically torn as you tried to accommodate to his harsh gyrations and the new incursion of the two flesh.
you could only emit a guttural cry, thrashing within his grip but his arms wrap around your mid waist, circuits of pain and nirvana ran through your body.
âyou're gonna take it, sweetheart.. I know you could..â
He suddenly stuck his salty thumb past your lips, drool accumulated around your lips and at the back of your throat. âsuck.â he demanded lowly, you obviously obliged; wrapping your lips around it.
âyou're prettier when you obey..â he stuck the digit slightly further, causing your gag reflex to recoil and his cock to twitch, releasing bits of precum at your pure submission.
âdaddy's gonna fill you so well, princess.. gonna be plump and mâ gonna walk around with you like a prize. everybody's gonna know what we've done, some will even look at you in disgust because you were willing to open your legs for me..â he whispered into your ear, breathless but managing to keep his eyes on your half lidded ones. Your gaze weary and unfocused, the usual whites of your eyes red from crying.
He grinned whilst sliding your hand to your navel, feeling his cockhead protruding under the digit's tip and you slightly winced at the feeling of his slimy canine brushing against the lobe of your ear. âdon't you feel me baby?â his thumb finally leaves the back of your throat, brushing against the tonsil, causing your throat to recoil.
âcan't wait to finally have control, baby. the first time didn't work, but it'll surely work this time..â he remarked, before he stilled and marked your walls with his warm seed. Inhaling and exhaling, exhausted; your own weight became your own enemy before you collapsed onto the counter but slid into the ground eventually. Your toes curled with discomfort as you shriveled against the corner, both of your releases leaked out of you.
Your mind was dazed, your body wasn't your own. You looked up at yangyang, vision blurry from the aroma of unconsciousness that'll soon sweep over you.
âyangyangâ why'd you do that..?â was the last thing you said before everything went pitch black.
Yangyang was mesmerised in full awe at the scene, your pretty lashes wet with tears and his seed dripping out of you and your hole fluttering with every breath and heave.
Yangyang grabbed your waist, lifting&carrying your limp body bridal style before laying your battered body on the bed.
Your body was like a painting of the pretty night sky, the stars being the bruises, marks and scars from today and times before.
He believed you were beautiful like this and he'll keep you like this forever, his eyes stayed on your stomach and his neck crawled with warmth.
He giggled knowing that soon enough, you'll be truly his.. not kunhang's.. definitely.
You'll bare his kids and he'll make sure that you'll definitely forget about him.. even if it meant beating your memories out of you. he wanted the best for him you.
You wouldn't even mind to utter his name in this house.
He opens the drawer, finding that miniature velvet box, his thumb caresses it lightly before popping it open. He admires the ring before sighing with content triumph before pulling it out, the gem was a ruby. red, his favorite color.
This'll be the new beginning for you both.
You'll soon forget about him.
Especially with the new ring he finally slid on your finger.

post date. January 1, 2025, 10PM KST
"Everyone knows Iâm bad. Much better for her to experience it sooner."
To you, heâs irreplaceable.

broken glass | home | writing masterlist | fic rec library

includes/warnings just super angsty, fem!reader
wc .9k
a/n oops i almost forgor to post this

the only sounds in the house were the sounds of your metal utensils clinking against the dinner plate you ate from. his dinner plate was sat across from you in his designated dinner spot, but he was absent.
you lift up the paper napkin to gently tap on the corners of your lips where the alfredo sauce missed your mouth.
your exhausted eyes scanned the room, eyeing the several pots and pans and dishes you fought with to make this meal. the meal that the both of you talked about trying, the meal that the both of you promised to eat together tonight, the meal that the both of you wanted to work on together.
part of you had hoped that heâd be here before his food got cold. but you felt cold in the low dress you picked out to surprise him with. your shoulders on display and the necklace he gifted you for your three year anniversary shined in the dim light of the candles that illuminated the table. you felt cold as your alfredo was no longer steaming, but cold and sad as you ate slowly. part of you hoped that the slower you ate the faster he would arrive. but no.
the clocked ticked. thirty minutes. thirty five minutes. forty minutes. you didnât want to cry. you had worked so hard on this makeup for him. you eye the fragments of the red lipstick on the napkin, eyes glossed and blurred with tears. the red looked like blood. like the blood that surged through your too-sad-to-be-angry veins.
there were just a few bites of your meal left on your plate. several were on his.
sadly, you lift the fork to your mouth and finish off the final bits of food on your plate. that's when you hear the door unlock. the fumble of keys against the door. the fumble of keys and hands trying to open the door as fast as possible.
you do nothing to help him as you stand up and make your way to the kitchen. sighing at the sight of piles of dishes of your hard work and labor for him tonight for him to only miss it.
the door swings open.
âyou look so beautiful tonight, baby. what's the occasion?â
with a loud clink the plate falls from your hand and into the sink. in the house nothing can be heard besides the sounds of the running water and the faintest of music that you had played for the both of you to dance in the kitchen to after your meal.
âbaby?â he asks, and you hear footsteps as he approaches you from behind. you feel a warm hand on your shoulder before you jerk away, turning the water off and going back to the table. âbaby, what's wrong?â he called for you.
youâre still silent as you pick up your phone and dial an all too familiar number that youâve never memorized. not until the number of fights between you and yangyang climbed. not until the number of late nights and broken glasses climbed. not until you cried yourself to sleep because you didn't know what to do. not until you woke up every day, wondering if maybe, just maybe⊠something can go right for once.
âbaby, answer me.â you can faintly hear him over the sounds of your phone ringing and the new voice on the line as renjun. the one person who stuck by your side after every disagreement. the one who would sing you to sleep to dry your tears away. the one who soothed and reassured you and brought you ice cream when you were supposed to be having âice cream tuesday date nightâ with your boyfriend. the boyfriend you spent countless hours fantasizing and dreaming of a wedding, wondering what he had in store for you when heâd get down on one knee and ask you those four little words every woman wants to hear.
renjun knew when you called late at night you needed him. âpick me up.â the words he hated the most. he always thought the worst of the worst. he was always scared something got too physical. he knew yangyang wouldnât intentionally hurt you⊠but he still feared the worst.
âyouâre leaving again. i just got home.â
âand that's why. youâre falling out of love with me, arenât you?â you ask. you donât hang up the phone.
âwhat?â
âwhen was the last ice cream tuesday?â
he opens his mouth like heâs gonna say something. nothing comes out of his mouth. you want to throw your phone. slide down the wall, let hot tears continue to roll down your face. you can hear the faint sounds of keys rattling and renjun hanging up.
âi asked, when was the last ice cream tuesday.â your question wasnât a question any longer. but a demand. âwhen was the last fucking ice cream tuesday.â
âi donât remember.â he brings his hand to his neck, scratching it slowly.
âseven weeks yangyang. seven weeks in counting.â you wipe snotty tears as both liquids roll down your face, ruining your makeup. he reaches a hand to wipe it clean, but you flinch once more. âdonât touch me.â the words hurt you to say.
âbabyâŠâ his arms fall to his sides in defeat.
the uncomfortable silence is broken with the doorknob twisting and turning when your best friend slips inside, nothing but anger on his face.
renjun approaches you and takes your hand in his. you silently vow to not come back to your apartment, not until he can make things right.
