hi kelsey! i really wanted to drop in on you since i really like your blog and you seem like such a genuinely cool person and i didn’t wanna be complete strangers! i share the thought that what we all need in life is gnr fanfic x and i wasn’t around for the first time, but that and how eloquent and passionate you are get me very excited. i don’t think i’ve ever been much into original characters in stories like that, however: the way you talk about yours, i actually can’t wait to meet them. i hope everything goes smoothly for you, i wish you lots of luck and inspiration ♥️

also, i so agree with you. i wrote it for like three and a half years before dipping at the end of 2023, and it's just a lot of fun. that's primarily the reason i've come back, it's that i just need something fun in my life again. i feel like i've seen a little bit of a resurgence of it in the tags, as well? not necessarily stuff i habitually read, but just a plethora of it that's getting a swath of notes and interaction, which is very exciting! when i was wrapping my stuff up here, i sort of felt like the fics for this band were drying up, so it's promising to see new/old people writing for them. i'm biased, but i just think they're one of the most interesting bands to write for because of the variety of personalities to bounce off of.

and welcome to my particular side of the mess!! this blog was a dumpster fire when i left it and probably will reach that very soon, but we had a lot of fun. granted, engagement will probably be much smaller for a while until i can sort of build up a readership again, but the fic was a sort of community event for all those who participated/read, and i always found it so lovely! i don't know if anything else kept me writing for so long, so i'm happy to have stumbled on a bit better of a sense of intrinsic motivation this time around.

but also i will say i completely understand that about original character stories. i say that because i'm the same way, and i was the same way when i started it. my best friend suggested the idea, and i made a face because ocs just weren't my thing, but . . . now here we are, and i love it because it specifically suits my purposes. i don't make a habit of reading other oc stories? (or fanfic in general bc the stuff i'm interested in doesn't have a lot of it) except if you're a close friend of mine, in which case i will always read/support the fanfic. oc or y/n or what-have-you. i think oc fics tend to get a bad rep because it's usually just a y/n repackaged, or it's like some idealized mary sue who's either wide-eyed and suspiciously innocent (infantilized) or like thick-skinned and aggravatingly invulnerable (stock character bad girl), and i—a lover of rich, diverse, flawed female characters—really try and go the extra mile to make sure my girls get the same sort of treatment and love as my guy characters do. except they usually get better treatment because they deserve it.
