based on ⟼ love island vibes. reagan is a casa amor girl, she has eyes for your muse even though they've been coupled up with the same person since day one that has lowkey put them through the wringer.
“i think you’re just making up excuses for him.” her eyes remained fixed on the other, manicured fingers gliding along her chin before they settle on their forearm. “what, you don’t think he’s playing kid in a candy store back at the villa right now?”

25.12.2401 - @englandisxmycity

muse: reagan bauer. silicon valley millionaire. needy, romantic, a tad obsessive. weirdly grativates towards avoidant-dismissive attachment style types.
connection/plot: they hooked up last night. could be someone he met the night before, ex-boyfriend, friend with benefits... anything else you come up with that makes sense for the story!
"Where do you think you're going?" Reagan croaks, his face puffy from sleep. "Come on, are you seriously trying to sneak out after last night?"

Starter for @reaganrackett
Talking shit and getting drink; the only two things Tina and Reagan seemed to be any good at when they were together. With James currently out of the house, Tina had invited Reagan round for exactly that reason. (She hadn't said as much, claiming only that they were going to have a movie night.)
At present, they were sprawled on the sofa, stuffing their faces with pretzel and at least 3 glasses in, with no idea what the plot of this stupid movie even was. (They had talked the whole way through the movie.) "Yeah it was, like, so weird. I think he really thinks we're besties now," Tina said, continuing a train of thought while shaking the empty bag of pretzels for crumbs.

We've only had two real poster presidents, Obama was our first, Trump our second. Bush Jr was the furthest thing from a posting president we've had since Ford, his dad had more of a poster's soul than him, Kamala & Joe both exclusively post for career purposes which does not count, Bill is probably in 20 year old women's IG replies on a burner but that's just speculation. Reagan is a non-starter, even if he'd lived to be 120 years old he'd just have traveled a circuit of televangelist churches, AM radio stations, & MIC conferences up to the present day. Carter probably follows his great great great grandchildren on instagram and has posted all caps comments under their wedding photos but again this is just speculation. No I'm not going to do any research for this post, I'm painting the light ok? For our confirmed posting presidents I wouldn't call either of them terrible at it in the way someone like Elon is or inept at it the way someone like Dean Norris(SEX GIFS) is but I would argue Obama's posting has been more pathetic. During his presidency Obama was purely a career poster but post-presidency he's turned himself into a celebrity & that's because that's who he holds the most respect for, it's why he does these netflix shows and puts out his music list every year and hangs out at parties with famous actors constantly, it's why he has been so inactive politically, he never gave a shit about any of that he just wanted people on TV to like him which they always have and he's living the life of a god now but that means there's zero friction in his life and his posting sucks because of it, it's textureless slop. Trump also respects and wants to hang out with all the same famous people but they all hate him and he resents them for it and that's fueled his posting for a long time. I think Trump's posting has been at its best when he's upset with someone famous he's been to the same parties as for 30 years and is at its worst when he's getting fellated by all the right wing ghost goblins and ghouls of America. Anyway my point is if the internet had been around in the 60's JFK & Nixon would have identical posting dynamics to Obama & Trump, also LBJ would have posted his cock and balls online and died before anyone had a chance to find out if it was an accident.

ayo idk if this question has been asked before but did you have any character inspirations for nat, reagan and the demon dude? like, were they were inspired by any movie/tv show/video game characters or any ppl irl? ik the demon dude was probably based off of biblical lore (i feel like i heard you mention this, correct me if im wrong) but idk much about nat and reagan and i was wondering if there were any particular aspects that went into their personalities or any specific character designs choices. basically, how did you come up with their personalities and character designs lol. PS love your drawings <3
Tyyy and yep! Rabel was based off of Christian lore along with some other stuff, I talked about it a little before but there's more to it that I can't say at this time muahaha
As for Nat and Regan, I'll talk about them a bit under the cut! Here's the very first designs I made of them lol.
Originally Regan was conceived as a red herring candidate for the demonic possession who was actively seeking an encounter with the occult so I themed her to look kind of spooky and edgy. Over time, that aspect sort of got pushed out by how the plot was coming together and her character became more about opting out of agency over her own life and sitting back while the world around her did its thing, so she kinda morphed into being a disheveled losergirl who wears big clothes.
The idea behind Nat was to go in the opposite direction of Regan's original concept. Someone who looked clean cut and unassuming but felt small and powerless and restrained in every aspect of their life; the actual ideal target for a demon. Only thing that really changed about her is she looks gayer now.
In terms of external influences, there's some Jennifer's body baked into the premise for sure but additionally I'd say that the true sourdough starter for their personalities/dynamic can be traced back to... butterfly soup Noelle and Akarsha..

Okay, so. “The Apprentice.”
Before we go in, if you’re going to watch this film, keep in mind trigger warnings for marital rape and racial, religious, and homophobic slurs.
Now, I would cut for spoilers, but I feel like at this point we should all know enough about Trump’s past that none of this is a spoiler. It’s a bit like saying “The boat sinks” about “Titanic.” Well, yes, it does, but the devil’s in the details.
Anyway. The movie focuses on a younger Trump’s mentorship under attorney, known scumbag, and gay-but-let’s-pretend-he’s-not Roy Cohn. (Let’s put it this way. If he’d died now instead of ‘86, the “I didn’t know the leopards would eat my face” song would be playing over celebratory TikToks.) Cohn proceeds to mold him into the douchebag we all know and loathe, and ends up getting bitten in the process. (Just as a note, this prompted me to get a Cohn biography so I could beef up on just how awful he was in even more detail than I already know.)
The film itself is very well-made. There are choices in terms of camera usage (making it look more 70s and 80s), storytelling, foreshadowing current events, etc., that are very well done. At the beginning, you almost have a smidge of sympathy for Trump, although it’s a HUGE almost. (It’s clear he was raised by a dick and wants to be like said dick, when maybe he would have been better off if his father croaked when he was little and his mother had all the control over his raising and that of his siblings.) Like, there is a *hint* that he might be redeemable if the right person got their hands on him. Instead, it’s Roy Cohn, and we have the six-foot pile of chinchilla diarrhea we have now.
So here’s the thing. I think anybody who heard Jeremy Strong was cast as Cohn thought, “Now that’s perfect casting.” And it is! He looks like him, he sounds like him, he plays him as manipulative sewer sludge. I will be incredibly surprised if he doesn’t get an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor. Every time he’s on screen, you’re drawn to him. He’s a monster, but a monster you want to keep your eyes on, either to see what he pulls next or to see if he finally gets what he fucking deserves.
But you know what was a delightful surprise? Sebastian Stan as Donald Trump. No, I’m not kidding. I mean, no, Trump is not delightful, but I know a lot of people were like, “Aw, SebStan as Trump? Come on.” The thing is, he’s *good*. Obviously, Trump in 2024 is an absolute cartoon of a human being, but all those tics and vocabulary choices and style choices came over time. The Trump at the beginning of the movie is a sliver of what he is now. You can see him if you squint, but you’re still working on SebStan in a bad wig. By the end of the movie, though? He IS Trump in the late 80s. He moves like him, speaks like him, brags like him. It’s as if the current Trump is him turned up to eleven, and SebStan at the end of the movie is him at about five tilting toward six. The last scene is him speaking to the ghost writer of “Art of the Deal,” and you can see Marla Maples-era Trump *right there.* It’s not a comic impression, it is a very real and respectable performance.
I feel like I should also mention that Maria Bakalova portrays an empathetic Ivana, especially given the mentioned rape scene and the moment when she shows Cohn something approaching real sympathy. I think she may be overshadowed in terms of awards by Strong and Stan, but she does a commendable turn as the first of the three wives Trump bulldozes through as his desires change with the wind.
It’s entirely unsurprising that the Trump campaign wouldn’t want this movie released. I mean, for starters, the marital rape scene is horrific and upsetting. But I think they should also be worried about just how much Trump seems to lift wholesale from other people without attribution - Cohn’s rules for life, Reagan’s campaign slogan - not to mention Cohn repeatedly getting him out of shit that should make any average American enraged. Why in God’s name would you support someone who got out of federal discrimination charges and $160 million in taxes for building a hotel using Cohn’s expertise with blackmail?
Of course, that requires the entire movie to be true, and … well, even the most historically accurate movies have their flaws. The problem here is that the people who worship him aren’t going to believe anything bad about him, and the people who wouldn’t piss on him if he was on fire are bound to feel that even if something isn’t true, it *sounds* like something he’d do. So fact-checking “The Apprentice” is like fact-checking Cocomelon. Your toddler doesn’t care as long as you give them the damn iPad. But at least with Cocomelon, if you just give them the iPad and walk away with your hands up in defeat, your toddler is probably not going to threaten to set the house on fire because Cocomelon told them to.
So yes, anyway, an excellent movie. I hope someone else is president when it gets nominated for Academy Awards because Jesus fucking Christ.

Closed starter: Astrid ( @hexstrom ) Location: Lilla Bakstugan
Copper felt a little like he was cheating on Reagan's bakery. Just Like Heaven was his usual bakery of choice, but ever since he'd seen Lilia Bakstugan opening, he had been intrigued. What kind of baked goods did they have, and how did this bakery differ from his usual spot? Those were questions Copper had been wondering, but he'd not found the time to go (plus there was that sense of guilt, which Copper knew was ridiculous - there was room for two bakeries in Cardinal Hill, and his heart too). So now he was finally here, and Copper entered the bakery excitedly, eager to see what kind of new baked goods he could try.
Upon entering the bakery, Copper noticed several key differences between this bakery and Just Like Heaven, which supported his assertion that there was room for two bakeries in Cardinal Hill; that was especially true given the differences between them. And it wasn't just the atmosphere that was different, it was the selection in the bakery cases too. Most of these were different from Reagan's, and as Copper knelt down and perused the different options, he said to the person behind the counter, "Between this place and Just Like Heaven, I'm going to need to spend even more time at the gym. Worth it though." He stood upright to face the person, saying, "My name is Copper. Are you new here in Cardinal Hill? I just recently noticed this place, though I haven't been here long myself."

A government drone.
Normally, Reagan would just teleport away; it would have no way of tracking her. But she knew the area - it was made up of a handful of abandoned buildings, not uncommon for mutants to hide out in them. And while her cover was blown, she could protect theirs. She could buy them some time to get out of there. So she raised her hands and she telekinetically pulled. The machine exploded, raining down sparks and mechanical pieces everywhere...
...only to reveal that another woman had appeared. And given that she didn’t know which side she was on, or how much of that she saw, or if she even knew what it was (humans tended to be oblivious to the drones), she offered, “Spontaneous combustion?”

open starter: @aurorabaystarter location: tidal wave music store
Anyone who knew Reagan know that if there is a place that sells music in a physical form, you'll find her there easily. It was just a pass time for her and not just because she was a musician herself. Something about having a physical album or vinyl wasn't something she could ever stray away from. Plus she met some interesting people due to album choices which was a plus in her eyes. Or she just liked secretly judging other based on their music choices. Who knows.
There she was though, rifling through the different albums like she was trying to find a treasure hidden underneath. In a way she was since she was looking for the newest album of a group she enjoyed and hoped that she'd find it this time. She hadn't had as much luck when she had been overseas before so she was determined now.
A sound of glee left her lips as she clutched the album in her hands, feeling the excited feeling spreading all through her. "Finally! Felt like I'd never find this." She stopped her little moment of celebration once turning her gaze to notice another person in the store. She instantly felt embarrassed and looked away shyly. "Sorry about that... Guess I got too excited. Hope I didn't disturb you at all." Though she hoped that the owner didn't mind her little outburst. It didn't happen often so she was sure it would be alright this once.

Alex Nowrasteh at The UnPopulist:
Donald Trump’s first mention of illegal immigration in his speech accepting the Republican Party’s nomination for president was how he turned to look at a chart of border chaos at the exact right moment to avoid a bullet fired by would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks that grazed his ear instead of killing him. Other than his account of surviving an attempt on his life—the most serious one against a sitting president or candidate since John Hinckley Jr. shot President Reagan in 1981—his acceptance speech was pure Trump: Part rambling, funny, boring, and focused on his favorite subject: complaining about illegal immigration and crime. [...]
Trump’s speech focused on some heinous crimes committed by illegal immigrants, like the murders of Jocelyn Nungaray in Houston, Rachel Morin in Maryland, and Laken Riley in Georgia. These criminals should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, just like all criminals should be. But they offer no justification for Trump’s plan to launch the “largest deportation operation in the history of our country” if reelected.
Such a brutal domestic campaign would likely raise—not lower—crime rates. Why?
For starters, undocumented immigrants are less likely to be criminals than native-born Americans. The best data on this comes from the conservative border state of Texas, which is the only state that keeps decent statistics on criminality by immigration status. Undocumented immigrants were 37% less likely to be convicted of homicide in Texas than native-born Americans in 2022, the last year for which reliable data are available. Legal immigrants are 63% less likely to be convicted of homicide. Those patterns are similar for all crimes in the state, but those are less reliable. Immigrants are coming to the U.S., and some of them are criminals, but they are bringing less crime than if they behaved like native-born Americans.
One counterargument is that illegal immigrants commit many crimes, but they aren't convicted because they flee back across the border. This is unlikely because police clearance rates, the percentage of crimes solved by police resulting in an arrest, are no lower in states with many undocumented immigrants for homicide and other violent or property crimes. If illegal immigrants were committing many more crimes than they were being convicted of, police clearance rates would be lower in states with many illegal immigrants—but they’re not. But there are two other ways that a mass deportation campaign would backfire and likely raise crime rates.
One: It would redirect state, local, and federal law enforcement toward identifying and removing illegal immigrants rather than solving or deterring real crimes. Locations that aggressively enforce federal immigration laws don’t experience a lower crime (but most of those areas have small populations of illegal immigrants, so the negative effects on other criminal law enforcement wouldn't necessarily show up because massive resources don’t have to be diverted away from prosecuting other crimes). Two: Simply by removing undocumented immigrants who, as a population, are less crime-prone than native-born Americans, the nationwide crime rate would be higher than it otherwise would be. The deportation campaign wouldn’t necessarily expose any individual residing in the U.S. to a greater risk of being a victim of a crime, but, the point is, it wouldn't Make America Safe Again.
Donald Trump’s mass deportation proposals are not only fascistic and immoral, but it also won’t make America any safer and also waste finite police resources.
Such proposals are based on the myth that undocumented immigrants commit crimes at rates higher than US citizens. The opposite is true.
In fact, these proposals are lunacy in leagues with the internment of the Japanese-Americans during WWII.
