(Ares enters an area, staring at a flower in his hand.)
Athena: Why do you have that?
Ares: Aphrodite put this on my armor. I don't think it fits with the whole fearsome look I'm going for.
Athena (pausing): She might want you to give her one in return.
Ares: Weird. If she wanted a flower, she could've just kept this one. She does silly stuff sometimes. Yesterday, for instance, she said I looked hot. Of course I did. I'd been training the soldiers all day in the blazing sun. Helios won't just take a few days off.
Athena:...
Ares: Before then, she said she was cold, but it was still really warm out. I gave her my cloak and she looked disappointed for some reason.
Athena (starting to look worried)
Ares: Last week, she asked if I wanted to go back to her place, but I told her that Sparta was waaay closer.
Athena: Are you really going to make ME say this?
Ares: Say what?
Athena: I think she likes you.
Ares: I mean, I figured she wouldn't hang around so much if she hated me.
Athena: No, Ares, I mean I think she likes you...(gags) romantically.
Ares:...no, that can't be it. You know my reputation around here. She doesn't feel that way.
Athena: Haven't you noticed her trying to kiss you?
Ares (shocked): I thought she was making funny faces!
Athena: Well, this isn't my area, so I could be wrong. Go ask her.
(Ares runs off and returns.)
Athena: So...
Ares (panicking): She likes me!
Athena (awkwardly): Good for you I guess.
Ares (still panicking): What do I do now?!
Athena (also starting to panic): Why are you asking me?!
Ares: You're the goddess of wisdom!
Athena: Not romance!
Ares: I've never been on a date!
Athena: Me neither!
Ares (trying to calm down): Okay, okay. Here's a question you can answer. Would it be wise if I went to Aphrodite, pretending to ask for a friend--
Athena: Don't do that.
Ares: I could disguise myself as Dionysus instead.
Athena: This is a bad plan.
Ares: Or Hestia. That would really throw her off my scent.

can we all remember to just say 'oh no thank you, i dont like that kind of food' but apply that logic and rules to shipping and letting other people ship again
#my t#dirkhal#yes im tagging this because thats what this is about#i see the start of another stupid fucking morality-based ship war in this tag and im not here for it#dirkhal is historically considered stridercest#using stridercest as an umbrella term#it doesnt mean the -cest part has to mean incest if you dont want it to. it can absolutely mean selfcest#davedavesprite is also concidered stridercest but its much more in line with dirkhal in that its selfcest. see the logic?#but like#can yall be fucking nice to your neighbours weve been here for a long time and havent been hurting anyone#if you can come to terms with the thought of dirkhal with hal/AR CANONICALLY being a brain clone of a 13y/o dirk#when we have no actual solid evidence to prove that he ages like dirk does in his physical body#then you can learn to share a fucking tag. because nothing in stridercest mirrors actual irl criminal or harmful activity#because its playing with dolls. we're all playing with our barbies and ponies here#and the problem with all of us trying to play w/ our barbies and ponies is that some very scared people see other ppl enjoying making ponie#kiss and they start screaming and trying to take all of our toys away when they dont actually have a monopoly on any of these toys. we shar#we share. that is what we do in fandom. theres an infinite amount of ways to interpret dirkhal#if you dont apply this logic to fans who enjoy things like game of thrones then dont do it here#take a step back and breath. we're all being normal. youre being a bad guest. please learn to share again. youre not being hurt#having a reaction to art is not actually Being Hurt

I continue to adjust resolution of old GOW cutscenes.
Here I compilated two frames from Kratos's agony visions from GOW2 to see Ares's calm expression. Firstly in this scene he looked very concerned by Kratos's death and then told him "Fight, spartan" (I know, it was Gaia's voice, but how interesting anyway).
I carefully closed his mouth in editor, and ?? While Athena on a background has cruel pleasure on her face, Ares looks... sympathetic?!
And what's remarkable, deep inside of his mind Kratos doesn't posess Ares as evil figure and hateful enemy. If you rewatch this scene, you will see that in a vision with Lysandra and Calliope's death, which captured his feeling of an absolute helplessness, there is no Ares at all. Only Kratos himself and Athena.
And then vision of Ares, who tells him to fight for himself and closes his eyes forever. His flame flows into the vision of the sleeping naked woman in bed. So even if he doesn't say this, Kratos associates Ares not only with his loss but also with seeking solace.. And help. Because Ares helped him, when he asked for it. Athena in her turn did not. Kratos's life became a chaos after Athena made him a god, and the only one comfort zone in this sea of endless despair was war. War is familiar. And understandable. War is sincere, it doesn't lie (unlike Athena!!1), it fully accepts Kratos and his nature.
So as Ares himself.

At the risk of sounding like some sort of Bethesda protagonist, War never changes...not really. Regardless of who's fighting who...both parties always believed they were right....both believed themselves to be just. For all were heroes of their own stories. But the truth, especially in matters like civil war was that War did not determine who was right.
It only determined who was left.
No one knew that better than Ares, who was drawn to this pantheon do to it's eons old civil war and it's stark similarities to his own family. They too had a scapegoat...Lucifer was his name. Perhaps they could get along...thankfully he managed to get a hold of him while he was topside.
"Thank you for agreeing to meet me. I am Ares. A pleasure."

I think Charybdis is my favorite of the Vengeance Saga mostly because of how relieved and happy Ody sounds when thinking of Penelope's reaction to him coming home.
While fucking forgetting the suitors for a brief minute before Poseidon pulls the damn rug out from under him. And honestly Poseidon? You had it coming in terms of forgetting Ody's mindset is that of a man with nothing left to lose when you threatened to sink the island he's been trying to reach.

Athena: Ares, have you had a candy called Warheads?
Ares (suspiciously): Are you messing with me right now?
Athena: I'm being completely serious.
Ares (equally shocked and overjoyed): Really?!!
Athena (makes a bag appear): Try one.
Ares (eats it): So sour. You have to be courageous to eat these... I love them! (Devious) I bet I can eat more than you can.
Athena: I didn't necessarily tell you about them to start an eating competition.
Ares (downs another handful): Tastes like victory!
Athena:...(makes a bag appear for herself) That's what you think!

One thing I've come to appreciate more about TRON Legacy in recent years is how different it is from the first film. Specifically, I've begun to appreciate it after I've seen how Disney has handled the Star Wars films.
The plot and themes of Legacy are very different from the first TRON. Where the original is an allegory for real-life, then-current technology with a strange and fascinating religious subtext, Legacy goes in a more sci-fi direction with emerging AIs and biodigital jazz, man. Compare this with the new Star Wars films mostly being "hey, remember the original trilogy?" to various degrees.
Visually, Legacy takes the basic designs and concepts of the original but gives it a complete overhaul. Many of the vehicles and other technology is definitely recognizable (heh) as TRON stuff, but with its own distinct look. It actually reminds me somewhat of the visuals in The Phantom Menace, which were often distinctly different from the original trilogy, while still being recognizably "Star Wars" (The Naboo starfighters were shiny and chrome, but R2-D2 could still slot in behind the cockpit). Again, the new Star Wars films feels far more conservative with trying new things, the new ships and other tech are mostly only slight variations on stuff from the original trilogy, when they're not just throwing in old ships whole cloth.
And the music, man, the music. It's actually amazing to realize that Legacy doesn't use a single melody from Wendy Carlos' groundbreaking, memorable and just plain wonderful original score. But even when the songs and the way they sound are all new, they are still made with the basic concept of the original soundtrack in mind: Fusing modern electronic music with classic orchestral film music. It might not be as groundbreaking now as when Wendy did it, but it's definitely memorable. Meanwhile, over in the new Star Wars films, we get some new songs with basically the same sound as the original trilogy, interspersed with plenty of John William's Greatest Hits.
TRON Legacy might have been part of Disney throwing stuff at the wall in search of their own live action blockbuster franchise, before they decided to simply buy some of those franchises instead and playing it safe with them, but I think this flailing "anything goes" attitude in many ways makes it a far more interesting film than, say, The Rise of Skywalker. Now don't get me wrong, I LOVED Rogue One, and all its fan-service and thick layers of "remember this?" But I think it would have been somewhat more impactful if all the other Disney Star Wars films weren't trying to do the same thing.
I'm actually slightly worried that the third TRON film, if it ever does materialize, will be going the way of Star Wars. It might be heretical to say, but from this perspective I'm actually happy that Daft Punk won't return to make the music. I would probably be content with visual fan-service and riffs on the Legacy soundtrack and Carlos's tunes, but I would be really excited if the film is something completely different from its predecessors, while still retaining their basic themes, doing cool and interesting new stuff with them. Because that's what Legacy did.

gregor the overlander!!!! i forgot how much i love that series. the way i sobbed like a baby when ares died it still hurts ngl </3
the way I completely had a mental breakdown upon reading the last sentence in which boots can properly pronounce gregor's first name signaling the loss of childhood innocence and growing up while gregor is a trauma/ptsd riddled human being who has already come to terms with the fact that he cannot properly function like a normal 12 year old anymore whether that be in the overland or the underland due to the fact that he's killed multiple times and has watched so many people die in often gruesome ways and has experienced the worst horrors ever all while being coerced/forced to fight a war he didn't even want to be a part of in the first place

@do-these-eyes-look-human
Ares was used to the sound of people screaming when they saw him, it was nothing new, but as was always the case he was drawn in by the talks and plotting of war. His red hair peeked out at the base of his Spartan helmet, his eyes eventually finding the source of these plots and whispers.
"So you are the one, then..."
