Why so stressed Star?
Nothing bad has happened because you had a strange dream, even if it was prophetic, what difference does it make?
You have your friends and surely the people you meet at the tournament would help you in case something bad happened, you are still you and its ok! :D

ੈ♡˳·˖✶ — RIN x FEM READER
True love stares you in the face and calls you an idiot.

Tumblr media
“Do you find me lovable?”
Rin squints at you. “Where is this coming from?”
The question is wary, like you’re setting a trap, and he’s the rabbit that’s dumb enough to fall for it. To be fair, when you do mess with him, he does fall for it every single time.
But not this time.
“Don’t you think I’m annoying?”
He rolls his eyes at you. “Yeah, actually. Super annoying. Worst mistake of my life.”
You stretch your leg out to kick him in the shin. He rips it back, yelping.
“Be serious,” you scold.
He blinks at you. When Rin is confused, it’s very obvious. He never manages to be ugly - it’s those sexy Itoshi genes - but his confused face comes the closest. He squints like he’s smelled something distasteful and his entire face screws up. His nose crinkles. His mouth puckers.
Rin is, at heart, a very simple creature. If it’s not about football, he doesn’t tend to think too hard. He’ll make the attempt for you, but in general, he’s a little less developed than other people his age on important concepts like emotional awareness.
You decide to throw him a bone. “Like when we met, remember?”
It’s a memory that you laugh at now (okay, not now, because you’re in a mood at the moment, but in every other scenario). At the time, however, you went home and screamed into your pillow to escape from cringing at yourself every five seconds.
It was your first day working for the Japanese National Football Team. You had been so excited to be here! Of course, it’s more glamorous to be playing the actual sport, but the team can only function at their best because of people like you.
Scanning in with your fancy new lanyard feels so professional. You still haven’t gotten over the excitement of a new job yet, and it’s written all over your face. Your new boss laughs when you tell her profusely how grateful you are to be here. She’s kind and funny. You can already see yourself fitting right in.
“I don’t have too much for you right now,” she says. “Why don’t you go meet the team?”
Your eyes practically sparkle with delight. “Can I really?”
“Sure! Just tell them I sent you,” she says.
The football pitch isn’t attached to the main building, but a short walk away. Your head is in the clouds as you all but float down the sidewalk. You still can’t believe you’re really here, but when you pinch yourself, the world remains as clear and vivid as it was before. This is no dream.
This is a nightmare, actually. The gates that allow you into training grounds are locked with a code that no one told you. You flutter around it, trying to decide what to do. Should you go back and bother your boss? You don’t want to seem stupid on your first day. You look around, but you don’t see anyone to ask. You pace around the lock again.
You don’t know where to go. If there was someone you could ask, you wouldn’t know where to find them. How is it only your first day and you’re already messing up?
“What’s the hold up?”
You gasp and whirl around to find Itoshi Rin, one of the star players who came out of the Blue Lock program. You’re starstruck, but that quickly fades as he pushes past you to put the code in. He doesn’t even hold the door open for you, leaving you to rush to grab it before it swings shut. At least you’re inside the facility now.
The coworkers you meet are much nicer than Rin. Even though your boss told you not to work today, they’re so friendly you don’t mind pitching in. As the players trickle in to warm up, you run around offering water bottles and balls. It’s starting to feel like an okay day, especially because Rin doesn’t seem to recognize you from this morning.
When you offer him a bottle, he takes it with a nod of appreciation, so you know it’s not personal. It’s not that reassuring to think that he might just be a bit of an asshole, but at least it’s not targeted.
Whatever your feelings on Rin are, he’s undeniably an incredible player. When he scores, every member of the staff stops to watch the arc of the ball. It’s perfect. It’s a thing of beauty.
You’re working up a sweat yourself carrying out the tasks you’re asked to do, so when the team finally wraps up, you’re grateful to finally start heading home. You pick up a stray ball heading your way and deposit it in the nearest basket, but a hand catches yours before you can let the ball drop.
“Are you stupid? That doesn’t go in there,” Rin says, taking it from you and trotting across the field to another basket.
Your jaw drops.
You hate this man.
But in a few months, he’ll take you on your first date, and you’ll be head over heels. You still don’t remember why or when it happened, just that one day Rin showed up with an apology and a dedication to doing better.
“When did it change?” You ask, curious now.
“I dunno,” Rin says. “Probably when you called me stupid after I fumbled the keys you gave me.”
“What?” You laugh at him.
“I’m serious! I was like oh, that was kind of shitty of me.”
“Sometimes I wonder how you’re still alive.”
“I’m a professional football player, not a therapist,” he says.
You hold your tongue about how emotional awareness was not a trait relegated to therapists alone.
“Anyway,” he adds, reaching for you. You stumble and nearly fall on top of him, but he doesn’t mind. “You’re still kind of stupid. But that’s what I like about you.”
“Rin,” you say, slowly like you’re talking to a very dumb toddler. “You forgot to hit start on the washing machine this morning.”
It doesn’t phase him. “I know I’m stupid too. That’s why we work.”

Tumblr media
diluc.
diluc ragnvindr has rarely been close enough to anyone to celebrate their birthday, nor does he feel the need to. he pretends he doesn't remember the birthday parties crepus and him threw for kaeya when they were young, and the parties he had for his birthdays too - isn't he too old for that now? he doesn't feel so inclined to sit awkwardly with a party hat on his head while he waits for everyone to finish singing happy birthday. but with you, things are different. he desperately wants to commemorate your special day, the day you were brought into this world, the day that's the sole reason he's able to date you now. unfortunately, he has zero clue how to.
originally, he considered asking the knights for their opinion, but when he thought of how kaeya would tease him, the proud smile jean would wear as she realised that he was asking for help from the knights of all people, the way eula would take this as just another reason to exact vengeance, how klee didn't even like him, and how albedo probably had no idea too, diluc changed his mind very quickly. hence, he sought assistance from none other than the workers in his house. hillie and moco were unhelpful, merely starstruck at the chance of speaking to their boss face to face, while connor suggested making you a special brew, which diluc rejected. thankfully, adelinde and elzer managed to save the day. adelinde whipped up a delicious birthday cake that was your favourite flavour, with elaborate edible decorations and a 'happy birthday!' illustrated on it with icing. elzer, with his eye for detail and skill at handling important affairs, plotted out your schedule and found the perfect time for diluc to surprise you - right after you wake up the next morning.
-
to say diluc is terrified would be an understatement. he's been in so many battles, defeated hundreds of fatui members, yet here he is; quaking in his boots at the thought of you disliking his surprise. but then he thinks to himself that he's got to thank you somehow for everything you've done for him. the way a smile from you brightens up his entire day, how your warm hugs never fail to cheer him up, your reassurance and light scolding whenever he overworks, the infinite wonderful memories the two of you have made together that he keeps hidden like precious treasures in his heart - he's so lucky to have you, and diluc is planning to show you just how grateful he is today.
from outside the door of your shared bedroom (no, he still can't get over the fact that you live with him! and sleep in the same bed!), diluc lights the candle on the cake in his arms. he can hear the sounds of you faintly stirring, and his cheeks redden slightly with excitement and anticipation as he thinks about how he's going to gift you with a kiss too, aside from the present waiting for you downstairs; it's something you've mentioned wanting for ages, and diluc recalled you saying that and purchased it. the candle flame flickers gently, and diluc smiles at no one in particular, imagining your joyous expression when you see it. it may not be his birthday, but as he looks up from the dancing flame and enters the bedroom, diluc makes a silent wish.
archons, i hope they have the best birthday!

Ball | Colson Baker
Requested? Nah
Warnings? None? It’s super long and idk if it’s good
Summary: After quarantine and covid seems to be lifted, the hollywood scene wants to celebrate through a masquerade ball. Being a somewhat famous pop singer you attend with your best friend and meet Machine Gun Kelly where the night certainly becomes interesting
Word Count: 2,651
(y/h/c) = your hair color
(y/e/c) = your eye color
Part 2 is here
“Who the fuck throws a ball nowadays?” Colson asks, fixing the sleeves of his suit for the millionth time and turning to his friend.
“I don’t know man,” Pete says shrugging his shoulders before moving to the mirror Colson was standing in front of to check over his suit one more time.
The two best friends were invited to a ball in Hollywood and by the advice of their managers, decided to go. They both thought it was ridiculous, rich people dressed up in suits and dresses for no fucking reason other than they were bored was dumb to the pair. But they had to make an appearance because according to their teams “everyone would be there” and it’s important to make an image.
It hopefully wasn’t going to totally suck, they at least could hang out with each other all night. The only thing they knew is that it was going to be a few speeches, some food, and lots of dancing. Hopefully, they could leave early.
Even though you would never admit it, you’ve always wanted to go to a ball. You had grown up watching Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and Tangled where all these princesses had beautiful gowns and romantic first dances that you always dreamed of having. You thought you would never experience that but tonight you just might have the chance.
"I can't believe we're going to a masquerade ball!" your childhood best friend Ava cheers excitedly.
Ever since you became somewhat of a pop star, you never wanted to attend the parties your manager asked you to. Your anxiety always ruined them and you left early. But quarantine was officially over, you had Ava, a stunning dress, and a mask to hide your identity. It was perfect.
“It’s really fucking cheesy but I’m still excited,” she tells you, and you nod.
The idea of a masquerade ball was super cheesy right now. After spending over half a year quarantined, and wearing masks everywhere for safety, wearing a decorative mask to cover your face for the ball was super cliche in a way. However, you were just happy to get out of the house, going to your first ball, and seeing some of your industry friends after months.
“Okay, last checks,” Ava announces turning towards you.
You look over each other, checking that your dresses were all set, heels strapped, purses had everything inside, and you were ready to go. You link arms and head downstairs where your limo would take you to the ballroom. During the drive, you and Ava talk about who would be at the extravagant event, who you might meet for the first time, and what other things they would have at the ball.
No matter how big you had gotten, you were still starstruck whenever you met some of your favorite celebrities. Ava loved seeing your reaction, which contained you not knowing how to speak, shaking and holding onto your face as you repeated the same words over and over as the other person sometimes either did the exact same thing or looked at you like you were crazy.
What could you say? This wasn’t your lifestyle. You grew up in a small town and loved it there. That was more your speed some days and other days you couldn’t think of leaving LA. It was a balance.
When the limo stops, the two of you carefully step out and are instantly bombarded by paparazzi trying to figure out who you are underneath the mask. You link arms once more and security helps push through the crowd to get you to the red carpet.
Your publicist tells you to go first, take some photos, pose, and then have Ava join you. When you’re finally finished, you head into the ballroom.
Colson and Pete really didn’t feel like dealing with the paparazzi when they got to the event. So, they pushed through the crowd, headed to the red carpet, and before they could shove their way through, Colson’s manager stops him.
“Just a few pictures,” he says and Colson rolls his eyes internally but nods instead.
As the two friends wait, Colson’s eyes wander around to the other celebrities surrounding him. Underneath everyone’s “masks” he was having a hard time trying to figure out who was who. While he and Pete decided to attend the ball, they opted out of wearing masks, practically ignoring the theme altogether.
Finally, his manager lets him go and Colson takes a few pictures, before joining Pete for pictures, and then they’re finally allowed into the ballroom. It’s practically packed to the brim with people and the two friends look at each other before giving the signature best friend look. The one that says “fuck, I really don’t wanna do this” but here they were.
They head straight to their table, stopping occasionally to greet friends and other stars they knew. When Pete sits down, he takes a quick look around before pulling out a blunt and offering it to Colson. The older man immediately takes it, thanking his best friend before lighting it up and passing it back to Pete after taking a hit.
You had felt calm up until you reached the top of the stairs above the ballroom. There were hundreds of people dressed in black and white. Not only did crowds make you nervous, but you were dressed wrong.
Clad in a fiery red dress with a slit up the thigh and black heels to match, you were the only one not in black or white at the ball. Ava looks at you curiously as you pause at the top of the steps. Her gaze follows yours and something like realization flashes in her eyes.
"Babe, you look hot," she reassures you and you turn towards her. "Besides if anyone says anything I’ll tell them to fuck off."
With a giggle and a nod, you two link arms for one final time and head down the steps.
"Who the fuck is that?" Pete's voice pulls Colson out of his zoned out state to look at his best friend. He nudges Colson and points out two girls coming down the steps.
Colson does a double take as he watches them encapture the room with every step. His eyes are drawn to the girl in the red gown, quite literally standing out among a sea of black and white. Her (y/h/c) hair falls down her shoulders and moves effortlessly as she looks across the hundreds of party goers, and it's like he’s drawn to her in some way.
He can’t see her face underneath the mask but he’s certain of two things. Those are the most gorgeous (y/e/c) eyes he had ever seen even from across the room. And he thought she was fucking stunning, mask or no mask on. He’s breathless watching every step she takes and at this point he doesn’t care if he’s staring.
He can't tell if she meant to or not, but her dress code defiance had caught every eye including his. And he had to know who she was.
"Who do you think it is?" Pete asks, breaking Colson out of his stupor once more.
"No clue. But I wanna find out."
You were starting to believe that everyone in Hollywood truly did like to hear their own voice. You had been listening to speeches for what felt like hours and you were certain you'd have to fake an illness to get out. Thankfully as you're rehearsing a speech to get out of there, the music starts and so does the real fun.
"Let's go dance before I die of boredom," Ava says dramatically before grabbing your hand and pulling you onto the makeshift dance floor.
The two of you sing along to the lyrics, dancing around and overall making general fools out of yourselves. It was the best you had felt in a long time, finally able to enjoy a night out with minimal anxiety and your best friend next to you. Nothing seemed to be better than this moment and you were grateful.
You danced and danced until your feet begged for a break and you're dying for some water. You tell Ava where you're headed and she doesn't hesitate to accompany you to the drinks station.
"Bro, I need to find that girl," Colson says grabbing Pete the minute the speeches are over and the music is blaring.
"What girl?"
"The one in the red dress walking down the stairs earlier. I don't know man, I just feel like I need to meet her, talk to her."
Colson hadn’t thought of anything else but the girl ever since he laid eyes on her. He was practically bouncing up and down in his seat from nerves throughout all the speeches. He knew if he didn’t find her soon he might never and that wasn’t an option.
"You're fucking crazy dude. You don't even know her," Pete says brushing his friend off.
"Come on man just help me find her."
"Fine. But only cause I wanna find her friend."
The two best friends set off into the crowded room and search all over for the two girls. They start off wandering the outside, wondering if they ditched the dance floor for something more interesting. As they search, Colson wonders why this girl has such an effect on him but can't get a hold on why as he looks.
And then he sees it. A flash of red passes by and he sees the girl headed straight for the drinks table and her friend right beside her. They look out of breath, and Colson realizes they really must have been dancing all night and Pete and Colson are a bit dumb for not checking there first. He’s stuck watching her for a second when he breaks out of his trance and heads back over to his best friend.
"Bro," Colson says pointing and the younger of the two turns to see the two girls finally grabbing their drinks. The two best friends give each other a look before starting to head over to the two girls.
"Dude this drink hits," you tell Ava and she nods as she takes another sip. You take a deep breath as you survey the room and all of the people going hard on the dance floor.
As your eyes sweep the room, you're suddenly choking on your drink as two people make their way over to you. You set down your drink quickly and turn to Ava who’s watching people on the dance floor, completely oblivious as to who’s coming your way.
"Ava!" you squeal and she gives you a confused look. You smack her arm and try to point subtly and when she sees them she’s freaking out too.
“Oh my god that’s-” she begins but neither of you can freak out too much considering the two men were practically a foot from you.
"Ladies," Pete says upon walking up to the two of you. You both stand there for a second, starstruck when you remember he doesn't know who you are under the mask and take it to your advantage.
"Hi," you say smiling widely. You watch as Pete's eyes can barely leave your best friends figure and you're practically screaming in excitement for her. “This is Ava,” you introduce and Pete’s face breaks into a wide smile.
"May I have this dance?" he asks, gesturing his hand to Ava and you have to nudge her to react.
"Of course," she says, back to her smooth exterior. Her hand slides easily into his and as they walk away, she turns back for just a second to mouth a quick 'oh my god' and you giggle.
"Uhm," you hear from next to you and you almost pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming.
"Hi," Colson says and you've decided this is the best day of your life.
Growing up, you listened to a million different types of music and even more different types of artists. Around high school, the harder part of your life, you found Machine Gun Kelly's music. The lyrics hit different like no other artist and you found yourself relating to each word and each song and connecting on such a different level. You looked up to him probably more than anyone else in the industry.
And here he was. Standing in front of you. It was practically a miracle you weren’t freaking out.
"Hi," you finally get out and he smiles sheepishly. That damn perfect smile that he claims he doesn't like.
It also didn't hurt that you had a massive crush on him too. He was in an all black suit, the button down popped open at the top and you can’t help your eyes from running over the exposed tattoos. His hair falls over his piercing blue eyes and the minute they meet yours you’re breathless.
"You look beautiful," he says and you're definite that you could die happy right here right now.
"Thank you," you respond blushing furiously under your mask and looking down at your shiny black heels.
You try to think of something, anything to say, how much you loved his music, how excited you were for the nex album, literally anything but you were drawing a blank. You wondered for a moment if he had any idea of who you were underneath the mask and if he didn’t, why was he interested in you if he had no idea who you were?
Colson was certain he might pass out just standing near you. You were even prettier up close and while he still had no clue who you were he didn’t care. Even the small silence between you two was enchanting and he couldn’t help but enjoy every second spent in your presence.
"Do you wanna dance?" Colson finally asks when the song changes to a slower one and you’re practically two seconds from passing out on the spot.
"You don't even know me," you tell him and he shrugs still extending his hand making your heart race even faster.
"I think that makes it a bit more fun right?"
You're at a loss for words as you nod and take his hand in yours. Your hands slot together perfectly as he leads you towards the dance floor and you're breathless the minute his left-hand lands on your waist and your opposite hands intertwine. His eyes are locked on your as he starts to move the two of you and you’re somehow hyper aware of his every touch on your body.
You spin throughout the ballroom, his gaze never leaving yours, or your body, and you never want it to end. It's a simple waltz, but the dips and spins leave you practically gasping as you can't even wrap your head around the fact that you just met Machine Gun Kelly and now you're dancing with him.
Colson was euphoric when his hand met hers and he knew she was something special. He had never felt so calm and energetic around someone in his entire life. Gliding around the ballroom felt like something straight out of a movie and while Colson never believed in love at first sight before he was starting to now.
The music comes to a close and Colson pulls you close. You want to say something, anything, even just tell him your name but you're so entranced by him and his movements you're rendered silent.
His hands move slowly from your body to your cheeks and his fingers dance dangerously close to the edge of your mask.
"May I?" he asks and you nod unable to speak. His left-hand drops back down to your waist as his right-hand pulls the mask off and you're officially exposed underneath his striking blue eyes.
"Ms. (y/l/n)," he whispers. "It's a pleasure to meet you."

][All questions for the otp meme for Jen + Rhys!][
@blind-mutant
Coffee shop AU: Who is the barista, and who frequents the coffee shop?
Jen's favourite coffee place is the only place that has strong enough chairs to hold her weight and who puts far more caffeine into her drink than any Starbucks should allow. She's grateful for this, more so to the little barista who always stares with wide eyes and smiles brightly when she comes in. Jen can smell the crush (and admittedly lust) off him and he's cute, but she doesn't want to scare him off. And lose her coffee place.
Rhys? God, he wishes that he could see and write a phone number down at least. Jesus, he wishes that he wasn't a worker so he could ask her out. For a date or a fun night. Things change though when Rhys trips one day and goes face first into Jen's chest while spilling coffee all over her. He's upset and worried that he's hurt and embarrassed Jen, but she just reassures him that coffee can't burn her...and he can always take her out to help buy a new shirt along with some dinner to make up for it.
Highschool/College AU: Who is the straight-A student, and who’s the backrow slacker?
Jen tries hard. Like, really hard. She needs good grades to get into the top law school and even with the worries and strains of her home life, it becomes easier to get lost in her work than think about how her aunt is dead and how Bruce is still left without answers and how her family did nothing. So it's easier to get lost in work and to try and stay out of the way of parties. If only that annoying boy Rhys would drop it and leave.
Rhys...he knows that he's a stupid guy and that he's only here because a fancy college is better than being kept at home with parents that don't want you around. Jen is pretty, but most importantly, she's smart. Rhys keeps hoping that at some point she might offer tutoring, but she just...doesn't? He wants to try and ask for help but Rhys doesn't want to spill that he's a mutant, not to mention the fact that Jen...always looks a little scary when someone talks to her.
Rivals to loves AU: Who takes their rivalry seriously, and who is half in it just to push the other’s buttons?
Rhys knows that he's part of the Brotherhood of Evil mutants and that means that anyone who isn't a mutant shouldn't be...well, he shouldn't feel attraction to them. But its HARD when said enemy is 7'5 and knocked the Blob out in one punch. God, Rhys can's survive this when he's faced with being lifted with ease and the moments where Jen flirts as she fights and teases him!
Even worse is the fact that Jen is fully aware of Rhys's little crush and likes to take full advantage of "Little Nighty". Most of the time it's to help win a fight and to not hurt Rhys, but maybe on occasion Jen flirts with honesty. Rhys is cute and yeah, he's a criminal but like, he's a cute and easy criminal!
Enemies to lovers AU: Which one switches sides?
The world fears the hulks ever since every gamma mutate banded together against the world. If Krakoa could do it, then so could they. Jen loves finally being free with people just like her without any worry from humans or other heroes judging them all the time or worrying that the hulks will kill everyone in their rage. It's a good time, to simply just be with the others until Jen realises one day in an attack that other heroes have decided to turn on hulks too. Of course, some people have decided that it's easier to leave the human world and to join over with hulks instead.
Of course, Jen worries about that. Some humans don't survive being turned into hulks but if it's what they want...not many have specific gamma forms, but a particular mutant, Rhys, definitely stands out to her. He has big wars, dark skin and glowing eyes as he towers above mostly everyone. Samuel still complains about Rhys being a dumbass and letting anyone walk into that giant tuff of fur. But Jen still spares him a lot of sweet smiles and words.
Soulmate AU: Who is eager to meet their soulmate? Who absolutely does not want to meet their soulmate?
Rhys is...nervous about meeting his soulmate, but excited. He wouldn't have a soulmate that loved him, but he kinda at least wants to see what they're like. He isn't expecting the goddamn She-hulk to be bis apparent other half and boy oh boy does that send his heart into terrified palpitations. How can he be good for someone like her? He didn't even think it would be another woman and yet here he was, trading Blue for Green.
Jen's thrilled but worried herself about meeting the other half of her heart. She had always been worried about not being good enough and now she had to worry about being green or too freakish for someone. Rhys is small and cute and the rudest man she has met so of course Jen is purring, absolutely delighted that her soulmate is someone not creepy or someone who can't control her mind and feelings again. Rhys is shy but Jen is willing to wait and spoil him until he melts and accept that she wants him forvever.
Single parent AU: Which one is the single parent? (Alt. if they’re both single parents: Which one is open to starting a new relationship from the start? Which one is never planning on finding love again… Until they meet the other and are instantly smitten?)
Lyra isn't technically her daughter. But Thundra had been interested enough in Jen that it was kinda a romance? Lyra doesn't exactly want a father anyway and that's how she ends up with a teenage hulk in her care. That still doesn't explain how Jen also ended up with her niece snarling and holding up a small man and something about thieving. Rhys didn't mean to get caught, but he isn't exactly arguing when Lyra's hot aunt comes to sigh and stop him from being killed.
Jen is...gosh, big lady who is protective of her niece? Is there a word for aunt milfs? Rhys definitely wants to try and uh, apologise to Jen for causing such a ruckus and really! He isn't always such a bad guy! Jen finds it pretty amusing and what the hell, agrees to go out with him while Lyra asks whether they just let criminals go now. Rhys has earned the joys of a big green woman adoring him but....he's going to suffer a LOT of shovel talks from a teenage hulk who doesn't understand the human world.
Doctor AU: Which one is the longsuffering doctor? Which one is the patient?
O K. Rhys,,,in the hospital the same time as when Jen first hulks out??? Baby boy nervous about being there and god, the giant green woman doesn't help-
Hold on.
Rhys needs to follow whatever the hells going on and, well, any excuse to get out of the hospital, right? The giant woman is fucking incredible and it's a shock to see her turn into a small regular woman but Rhys isn't too bothered. He's still starstruck, even through helping her change into something more modest as Jen dazedly asks who Rhys is and what's been going on.
They get coffee later because even as a no one mutant, Rhys thinks that Jen is new to the powered world and needs some help navigating it. He's right and Jen is more grateful for it than he'd ever know.
Bodyguard AU: Who is the bodyguard? Who are they protecting? Which one is secretly pining for the other?
Rhys's powers come in handy for being a bodyguard. He's practically unknowable, his shadows can help hide people and god knows they make a good offence up close. His client is some fancy little lawyer and originally Rhys tuts at having to follow around some human woman, even if he is being paid rather well. Jen on her hand seems to think its hilarious that she's been told she has Rhys to guard her, which doesn't help the internal insecurity.
It isn't until the week is almost up that an hit is attempted on Jen and yeah, Rhys stops it, that that human lawyer, but it isn't until he turns around that he finds himself faced with a 7'5 green woman and it only now hits him why Jen found the idea of being guarded so funny. She says it's alright and that if he wants, maybe he could...talk about guarding her heart?
It's a terrible pickup line and god does Rhys agree to it.
Pirate AU: Who is the pirate? Who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this?
Jen is polite and sweet mannered on land, but the moment she steps onto her ship, Jen can finally return to the wild ways of curly hair, high waisted pants and cloth shirts that show off her clevelege. Rhys is a beautiful prince who she plainly and outwardly flirts with happily, even with the anger of his parents. It gets even better when such a beautiful little prince flushes so prettily.
Rhys himself can't help but admire the strong and beautiful pirate. He wants adventure! He wants to get out of the tight suits and to wear tight pants and free flowing shirts...but alas he has been fated to a horrible castle where he isn't even the heir to the throne. So what then if he decides to flee in the middle of the night and try to pay the hot pirate woman off to have her take him with her and the rest of her crew? A boy can live!
It isn't...the best plan. What with a bounty being placed to return Rhys back, but for now, all he really cares about it Jen's strong arms around his waist, teaching him the tricks of the sea.
Childhood best friends AU: Which one was super obviously in love with the other the whole time? Who was oblivious until they were older?
Rhys and Jen are friends to the end. It's a cute rhyme that they come up with that makes all the adults laugh, even Jen's older cousin Bruce who is always quiet around anyone who isn't his mom or cousin. They're friends for years until Rhys practically drops off the face of the earth one day and his parents don't say anything at all. Jen's dad doesn't say or do anything either, even though her dad is a sheriff and should be able to do anything.
He didn't do anything when Uncle Brian killed Aunt Rebecca either though. So Jen pushes it down deep enough until hears later, where she's green and wild and strong, her feelings of rage and grief don't come back out until one day where she sees Rys again, remembers him down to her veins and bones as he picks a fight in the bar. After that it gets a little fuzzy.
Rhys uh, he remembers beaming and blushing back when Jen would share cookies with him. But he's pretty sure she wasn't a mutant so that doesn't quite explain why the asshole he was pissing off had gotten tossed into the air with a primal scream. Jen is mortified that she reacted in such a way and made an entrance like that, but Rhys is enamoured! He's touched that someone wanted to protect his dignity like that...and it was hot as fuck. He's up to see her toss more people as they begin to reconnect from years apart.

a different definition of stars- chapter 1: blue, a color, a feeling
@planceminibang SUMMARY:
Lance McClain was born for the spotlight. But after a surprise scandal, his mom gets worried that the fame’s starting to get to his head-- and Lance gets shipped off to live with his brother Luis and his family in the countryside town of Garrison, in the middle of Altea County, population barely breaching a thousand. In a new place where no one knows his name, Lance should be grateful to have a break from the lights and cameras-- but being a farmhand isn’t the life of glitz and glamour he was used to. And it’s definitely no picnic when the girl next door has blackmail on you.

Slap.
Lance withdrew his legs with a hiss, turning to the driver--his sister in law, Lisa-- who by now had turned her eyes back to the road, a satisfied smile on her face.
“The hell was that for?!”
“I told you four times to get your feet off the dash, Lance.”
Lance gestured to the dash, then at her. “It’s--look! I didn’t leave a mark!”
“And you’re adorable if you think that attitude’s gonna fly here.”
“Attitude--?”
“Lance.”
He slumped back into his seat, the dirt road causing the truck to bump and jostle along as it did. His eyes wandered back out the window-- miles and miles of grass and trees, cattle, hazy purple mountains in the far off distance. Not another car for miles. No music played on the radio--white noise. An unrelated buzz--Lisa told him that it was cicadas in the late summer--hummed in the air, and the sun was high in the afternoon sky. Cloudless. An infinite blanket of blue.
“How’s Veronica?”
Lisa was asking him questions again. Lance looked down at his shirt, tugging at a loose string, brows furrowed. How’s Veronica?
Mad at him.
Well, he couldn’t blame V for being mad at him. He was still trying to ice the burn from his parents being mad at him too.
He heard the shutter of a secret camera click in his ear, and Lance planted his forehead against the window.
“She’s fine.”
“Mami told me she didn’t come to send you off.”
“Busy at work. She has a life too, yanno. Outside of being my babysitter,” he grumbled. They drove past one, two cows. He should add on to that. “Sorry you got stuck with babysitting, by the way.”
“You’re family.” A pause. She was thinking of something to add on, too. “We want to take care of you too, Lance.”
The cicadas buzzed on.
--
Nadia and Sylvio were his next assailants-- running down the porch steps of a wooden, white ranch house at full speed, down the dirt driveway, and into his arms. He only ever saw the kids when the family came to Hollywood for the holidays, for summer vacation. They wore wide smiles, their teeth bright white, Nadia’s dark hair braided down her back, Sylvio’s hands were dried with mud. Lance couldn’t help but laugh.
Despite the circumstances, he could never resent seeing his favorite niece and nephew.
“You guys keep getting bigger. Stop eating your vegetables.” Lance said, bending his knees for Sylvio to wrap his thin arms around his neck, lifting him into a piggyback ride while Nadia skipped alongside them.
“Do actors need to eat their vegetables?” Nadia asked, a curious twinkle in her eye. She wanted to be just like her uncle Lance, she had said at Christmas the last year. Just like him.
For the moment, the reminder made his stomach twist in knots.
“Well, kinda.”
“Then I won’t stop.”
Sylvio wriggled against his spine, chirping directly into Lance’s ear. “Me too! I won’t stop, too!”
That made him laugh, the knot undoing itself for the thirtieth time that day, and he let the boy down as soon as the porch steps came to view. It was a big porch. It was a big house. Stark white, freshly painted. An oasis in the middle of a lifeless world. Lisa whistled for him, back down the driveway.
“Lance, you don’t seriously expect your pregnant aunt to get your bags, do you?”
Lance bolted back down, ignoring the sting in his chest when he reached the truck and looked down to his shoes; once pristine, white, now dusted. Lisa gave him a curious glance as she handed him his duffle.
“What’s wrong?”
“My shoes.”
And then she rolled her eyes, dropping the duffle into his arms. “You’ve got money. Buy new ones. Probably something better suited for the farm.”
He followed her dejectly--her and his rolling suitcase--back up the driveway, feeling perspiration on his forehead, in his hair. The late afternoon was hot, the sun oppressive against his neck. Sunscreen. That was definitely first priority once he’s settled in.
The air inside the house was cool and inviting, a welcome reprieve from the hot summer sun. The kids followed their mother and Lance like ducklings up the stairs, into the spare bedroom, inspecting Lance as if he were a new toy.
In a way he kind of was. All city and no country on him. He was dressed for first class travel, not for the dirt roads and cattle and buzzing cicadas.
The bedsheets were a shade of wet soil and smelled faintly the same. The lacy curtains were open, and he could get another view of miles of grass and purple mountains and an infinite sky. The wallpaper-- blue, white, floral--right out of a homestead decor magazine. There was a desk and a closet, empty save for boxes labeled ‘WINTER COATS’ and ‘XMAS DECOR.’ Lance dropped his duffle on the bed, watching the dust float up and catch in the light. Sylvio and Nadia set to inspecting the room itself, and Lisa let out a content sigh as she looked around. She threw him a smile.
“Nothing like Beverly Hills?”
“Don’t see an infinity pool out there,” Lance said, hoping he sounded funny. Please think I’m being funny, Lis.
She outstretched a hand to him, adjusting the sleeve of his shirt, following his gaze out the window to the sky and the mountains and the grass. “You don’t need a pool to see infinity out here, mijo.”
She started out the door again. “Let’s get the rest of your bags and get you settled in, right? Sylvio, Nadia, can you two go check on the chicken coop?”
The two were glad to oblige, racing down the stairs in fits of laughter, and Lance could only follow Lisa, dumbstruck, hand out to help her if she needed a hand down the steps. “You guys got chickens here too?”
She laughed, throaty and warm. “You’ll get to meet them tomorrow, I hope. I don’t know what Luis wants you to do yet.”
“Probably wrangle a cow.”
“We don’t wrangle anything here. You’re a farmer now, not a bull rider,” Lisa let out a breath, looping her arm through his as they left the cool air of the farmhouse and started back down the driveway, kicking up dirt as they walked. She was quiet, until they were back to the car, back to the luggage Lance toted from sunny California. “Your mama didn’t tell us everything, you know.”
Lance bit his lip, hoisting his luggage out of the truck bed and onto the road. “You can probably just google it.”
“I’d rather hear it from you, Lance. Not the tabloids.”
That was reassuring, considering his parents and Veronica preferred to read the tabloids.
He looked Lisa in the eye, and the knot in his chest twisted itself right back up. Lance wondered if there was a chance he could get an Eagle Scout badge for his impressive knotting skills in the last month, because this was one hell of a situation to be tied up in. And, hell, no sense beating around the bush with her.
“Uh, it was a DUI.”
Her expression fell.
“Lance…”
He remembered his luggage, one hand reaching for it, the other gesturing at Lisa. “No, no. I, uh, I don’t want you to say anything. It was my fault.”
She was still looking at him with a furrowed brow. Pity. Worry. Other emotions he wished he couldn’t see, couldn’t understand. “No one was hurt. Just me,” was tacked on quickly, almost too quickly.
She picked up the other luggage, and she squeezed his arm again, but pulled away quicker. “No, yeah, of course. You got lucky.”
There was ice in her words, and Lance could taste bile. His free hand went subconsciously into his hair, eyes back up at the sky, tracing the bumps and grooves of a healing, stitched wound, the sweat on his hands sliding against the sweat in his hair, and the infinity of blue began to break up and crack like a shattered windshield.
Lance closed his eyes.
He got lucky.
--
His first task was dishes, drying as Lisa washed, and the sound of a car honk outside and the ecstatic shouts of his niece and nephew almost made him screw it up. He sat the plate down on the counter, giving Lisa a wild look. She snorted.
“Luis is home.”
“Where’s he even been all day?”
“Hey, farm work is more than just staying on the farm.” She dried her hands, following the kids outside, and Lance could hear them chatter, hear his name be shouted in excitement by Sylvio. He shuffled along, tail between his legs; the nerves, the anxiety building back up again as he peered through the screen door. There was Luis, and a dog, and the door swung open. Lance stumbled back. The stranger just raised her brows.
“Oh. My bad.”
Lance peered down at her. She wore her hair pulled back under a baseball cap, eyes behind large, round glasses. She was dressed for work, dusty denim jeans and a loose tee covered in suspicious red stains, and in her arms was a crate full of mason jars labeled by fruit (and Lance’s suspicion of the stains dissipated). She looked around his age, maybe younger. Her amber-toned eyes eyed him curiously, and Lance wondered for a moment if she recognized him. They had television here in the middle of nowhere, didn’t they? She had to know who he was. Maybe she’s starstruck.
Her curiosity quickly turned to annoyance.
“Can you… please move?”
Right. He was blocking her path. Lance obliged.
“Sorry. Uh. Hey, I’m Lance.”
He followed her into the kitchen as she set the crate down, setting to unboxing the jars, reading the labels, organizing them by fruit on the counter. Lance watched her for a minute, listening to the sound of glass tinkle. He had about a thousand questions. Many revolving around the stranger in his uncle’s kitchen unboxing fruit preserves like her life depended on it.
“I’m Lance.” He said again, louder, hoping her silence was just because she didn’t hear him. “I’m, uh, Luis’s little brother.”
“Uh-huh.”
Silence. She picked up the now-emptied crate, turning around to face him. Nothing. No reaction, not even a little one. Lance blinked at her.
“Lance McClain.”
“Yeah. You’ve told me your name three times already.”
“I… I did.” He did. “And you are…?”
“Not staying.” She brushed past him, and Lance stared after her. No way. There was no way. He knew his brother was disconnected, but even Luis watched TV.
“Wait, you don’t… do you watch TV? Ever?”
She stopped, turning around, holding the crate against her hip as she gave him a bewildered stare. “You’re kind of a weirdo, Lance McClain.”
“You don’t know who I am.”
She shifted her footing.
“I do now. Why’s that matter? You’re special or something?”
“Yes. Wait, no.”
She raised a brow again, and maybe he was imagining the amused twinkle in her eyes. “O-kay. See ya around, Lance.”
Good brother manners told him to follow the girl back out, greet his uncle. But at the moment, Lance was having a reality check.
Out in the middle of farmer country and the first person he thought would recognize him… didn’t. Was this what a blessing was? Or maybe it was just a blow to his ego. Either way, it was devastating. He peered back out through the screen door, watching the stranger laugh and smile with his brother and Lisa, giving Sylvio and Nadia hugs. And he watched her whistle for the dog, and watched them disappear down the dirt road. He turned toe back towards the kitchen, grabbing the next plate they used for lunch and began to scrub it down, listening for the door to open, for anyone’s voice. It was a relief when the laughter finally carried itself through the foyer, through the kitchen, and Lance felt a calloused hand clap down on his neck.
“What, didn’t want to come say hi?” Luis pulled him into a half-hug, and Lance splashed dish water, a laugh escaping him.
“I wanted to finish these, man.”
“Dishes! I thought Mami was making up urban legends when she said you still knew how to do these.”
“Dickhead.”
Luis laughed, setting to drying Lance’s dishes, his eyes wandering to the jars stacked up neatly on the counter. “You met Katie, at least?”
“Was that the girl?”
“Isn’t she great? Smartest girl we know.” He gestured around the house. “Set up the wifi and TV and even fixed the truck last spring with her mechanic buddy. Complete wonder girl.”
“What the hell? She set up your cable and she apparently has no idea who I am.”
Luis slowed his motion with the dish towel, rolling his eyes. “You can’t be serious. You’ve barely been here a day and you have expectations.”
“It’d be like if you didn’t know who Leonardo DiCaprio was.”
“Leo is an international icon and you’re on a daytime drama. Perspective.”
Lance took a step back, eyes on the preserve jars. “It was just… weird.”
Luis glanced at him, smiling. “A good or bad weird?”
“Yes.”
“Hey, get used to it. Mami sent you over here because she knew you’d be out of the spotlight while this whole thing simmers down.”
He winced, involuntary, leaning back against the counter. Simmer down. That’s all this was, right? The press will stop seeking him out and some other celebrity will do something equally or more insane, and Lance and his car wrapped around a pole would be old news. Simmered down. Cooked and salted and chowed down and passed right through and the next meal comes along and the cycle repeats itself in a vicious self-sabotage.
It didn’t sit well with him, suddenly. A headache spiked where his skull had split opened and flowered, however many salted and simmered days ago. The bile came back.
“Yeah, when this all simmers down.” Lance said, a little too loud, and he faked a yawn. “Anyways, I’m beat. Jet lag and shit. When should I set my alarm?”
“I’ll cut you some slack. Seven A.M. sound good?”
“Good god, no.”
Luis threw him a well meaning smile. “Let me or Lisa know if you need anything, okay?”
“How about building a luxury pool and spa in the backyard?”
“Anything but that.”
They laughed together, shoving and shoulder-checking, and Luis followed Lance as far as the stairs, a grin on his face, a crinkle at the corners of his eyes.
“Make sure you stay knocked the hell out, because you’re going to need all the sleep you can get. You’re on farm time, now.”
Lance shuddered hard, overdramatic. “That’s scary shit, Lu. Love you. Goodnight.”
He bounded up the stairs a little too fast, sinking down into his four-post bed, onto a blanket of soil and stared up at a dark ceiling. The buzzing of cicadas was replaced by the chirps of crickets, and Lance squeezed his eyes shut, rolling onto his stomach. His fingers itched to check his phone, google himself, see if his co-stars were texting him; but he knew better. Now was not the time.
Simmer, simmer down, Lance.
The jet lag caught up to him, eventually, and he breathed in the scent of earth and sky.
