As a British born Bengali Muslim struggling with a cultural identity, I have experienced meeting and socialising people from my background and similar. I have explored a small part of East London, Whitechapel and some parts of Hoxton and produced a set of photographs and film to explore and feel closer to my background taking photographs this particular area of the city. Throughout my journey I spoke and interacted with people and explored the environment and how people work and socialise as a community to get a deep insight of working immigrants and British born south Asians make a living, and how people generally function in parts of this area.
I very much enjoy walking and adventures and so I captured a shot of each moment of time, the colours and patterns of items, stools, stands, people and the space of the area. I have bonded the photographs into a book consisting of coloured and monochrome images to get different perspectives. Continuing my walk it led me to film a shot of a worker creating traditional jelebi sweets in action to get a taste of the moment of a day to day job in a closer view, capturing a display of patterns created in hot oil as the batter cooked.
The history of a journey or a small walk can be captured and treasured by photography for everybody to get a glimpse of an artist’s story.

Face shape shifting afghan girl.
i have created an image of a young girl wearing a traditional afghan garment at the start of my project, using chalk and biro pen to bring out get facial features, i have digitally edited the image and by surprise a small glitch gave a twitching effect which brings the image alive, i created this image in a way that is dreamlike to me almost fading away to represent my memory of what i saw when i visited Afghanistan when i was young.

A slice of East London - Whitechaple gypsy lady
As i cruised around whitechaple for my project i came across a gypsy woman begging on the street, i decided to create an image of her of what was left in my head as i thought it wouldn't be right if i had taken a picture of her during that moment.
i was very interested of how and why she ended up begging in the streets and felt quite sad for her to see any human being in a state of need. I painted an image of her in a sad and vulnerable state as my way of interpreting this elderly woman.

Part 2
Lewisham Photography
i continued to take photographs of different parts of London that is not familiar to me and captured the space, angles, colour of the sky that almost sets the mood to a sad nostalgic feel,
i captured perpendicular lines and shapes from the architecture of the buildings to the platform near the train tracks.

‘Strange Days will consider how images shape memories while anticipating visions of what the future may hold,’ explains The Store X. ‘Weaving together reportage and lyricism, the works on view blend images and sound into dreamlike compositions.’
Featured works include Kahlil Joseph’s ‘Fly Paper’ (2017) – a deeply personal portrait of black cultural life in Harlem, which premiered at the New Museum in the fall of 2017 before making its European debut at The Store X Berlin earlier this year; John Akomfrah’s ‘Vertigo Sea’ (2015) – an epic three-screen meditation on the ocean as an environmental, cultural, and historical force; Camille Henrot’s ‘Grosse Fatigue’ (2013), in which a rapid succession and layering of images tells the story of creation; and Pipilotti Rist’s video and sound installation ‘4th Floor To Mildness’ (2016), a work that featured prominently in the artist’s celebrated 2016 New Museum exhibition.

The area and space in Lewisham, the iconic red bus complimented by the grey London weather. one of the places i have visited to look for the perfect place and adventure for my photography project.
i have really enjoyed travelling to different areas of London to get a feel and experience the different environment and compare differences and similarities to parts of east London including the people and architecture. using a camera i have captured the different spaces and angles of the sizes and shapes of the buildings.

Exhibition - Tate Modern - Radio Robot Tower
A time capsule of old to new technology of radios TVs and computers stacked up into a tower.
this was one of my favorites because it really felt as thought it was a giant time capsule, and i was able to see how radios and electronic devices have looked like during the far past compared to the modern day or 90s fashioned computers and radios, going from old to new bottom to top. it made me analyse it for a long time as i was fascinated to see the development over time to what i have holding on my had ( touch screen phone) today at that moment.

This illustration is inspired by the girl I saw learning how to ride a motorbike in my neighbourhood. I looked around to find other women pushing the boundaries to claim these small moments of freedom and also came across the amazing photographs of Moroccan women by Hassan Hajjaj. With the help of friends and family, the biker girl was blown up to 11ft and pasted onto a wall in Lahore- I was curious about the reactions she’d get- only the next day we found that she had disappeared. Her being taken down has opened up new questions about street art in Pakistan and ultimately about how women are seen in public- and I’m now excited to do a series!
