The spray of purple tulle on the side of this gown was there for a very specific reason and for a very special person. In fact, much of Jamie K’s #StarGoddessGown was inspired her little sister, who unexpectedly passed away before Jamie’s big day. If you’ve been following the dress progress through the unique hashtag StarGoddessGown you saw the post about Jamie’s sister loving stars and star prints, and her favorite color was purple. We sourced this amazing purple tulle with sparkle stars to honor her late sister, and it couldn’t have been a more perfect textile! Fitting Jamie K’s #StarGoddessGown in the final fabric was a big moment! (Maybe not for her teenage son 🤣 - family and friends are always welcomed at fittings!) The incredible sequined tulle needed a “direct drape” onto the body for proper placement so we got to play around a bit with it, taking measurements and notes and pictures while we pinned and tucked till we got it just so. *THIS* This is a sexy pattern piece. Developing Custom Fashion requires a lot of finesse and each pattern piece can be tweaked a bunch of times before it’s “just so”. Jamie K’s #StarGoddessGown needed an expertly designed and fit body suit that couldn’t be bought off the rack; So I designed one for Jamie’s perfect Goddess bod. It took some finessing but it was well worth it! This Organic Cotton body suit features shorts, a deep v back and a plunging neckline designed to be anchored by nude mesh. When I was studying Fashion Design in college I remember an awesome Pattern Drafting Teacher who would float around the room and say things like “I don’t like that armhole.” Or “That curve isn’t right.” and I used to think, how in the world can she just SEE that?! I mean, Pattern Drafting is a lot of math and precision and calculations! Well, after 20 years of Pattern Design I see it. 👑 ALL of the princess vibes! This Custom Bridal skirt sample had serious swish! A skirt sample is basically a rough draft and I often use funky colors and fabrics for my samples depending on what I have on hand in the studio. Pink tulle it was for Jamie K’s #StarGoddessGown sample! The sample making and fitting process is key to achieving the perfect look and level of comfort for my Custom Fashion Clients! Usually I create a Prototype before the Sample but in this case Jamie was so clear on what she wanted and with my expertise it was an easily executed piece so we were able to go straight to sampling! Our original idea was creating this dramatic, sparkly skirt for her to wear over a bodysuit, so Jamie tried a few bodysuits on with the sample and we prepared to move on to our FINAL FABRIC - always a big moment! So many wishes, secrets and stories were told under the glow of the ultimate 1990s kids room decor: Glow in the Dark Stars! My latest Custom Bridal Client slept under these stars in her childhood bedroom with her sister and her sister actually always connected with stars. She loved them, she’d wear star print clothing, stars were her thing into adulthood, long after the glow in the dark bedroom stars lost their sticky backs and fell to the floor! Sadly, before Jamie K. got the chance to start planning her wedding with her little “star” sister she unexpectedly passed away.
