This post by @forcedpalpastration​ about how the prequels’ narrative would work better if Padmé had been significantly older than Anakin has made me having thinky thoughts, and I have come up with an idea that not only features the advantages of @forcedpalpastration​’s idea, but also allows not to retcon what is established in RotJ i.e. that Leia did live a little time with her mother, albeit short. Also, no pregnancy and birth problems, so we avoid the Female Body Weird And Scary(TM) issue.

Consider this: not only Padmé is significantly older than Anakin, but by the time they reconnect when Anakin is a young man, she is ill and aware that she has only a limited number of years to live.

The thing about the prequels is that we know that Padmé is going to die. We have known for decades. We know Luke never knows her and Leia loses her when she is extremely young. There is no tension in “is Padmé going to live” because we know she is not.

So she is going to die all along. She has an illness that has no cure, even in the advanced world of Star Wars. In fact, it’s an opportunity to explore something about the Star Wars universe: we can establish that yet-incurable illnesses exist, and some are especially common among people who travel across planet systems a lot (like Padmé, a diplomat) because of the extensive exposure to certain kinds of radiation that are found is certain systems. (Or something like that. We suspend our disbelief for much more when it comes to Star Wars.)

When she reconnects with Anakin as a young man, she has both very little to lose and very much. If her reputation shatters, well, we know how politics work. It would give her political opponent too good an opportunity to slander and bring down her whole political party, including people like Bail Organa who have been working so hard and would not deserve that. So she is hesitant to jeopardize her reputation because that could mean destroying what she and the people around her have worked for for years.

But she is going to die. She knows that. She knows she has just few years to live, the doctors are sure that she won’t live more than ten. And she is starting to feel it. She is mostly healthy, her body is mostly still alright, but she is starting to feel the first symptoms incoming. She can tell she does not have a long time left.

So she eventually says fuck it and dives into an highly inappropriate affair with an attractive young man who is attracted to her. It flatters her, because while she is not an “old” woman by any means and is still beautiful despite everything, her illness makes her feel kind of wasted and undesirable, and the attraction of a younger man is a pleasant surprise for her.

And she feels like she has sacrificed so much for her career - privacy, time, a chance to make a family of her own, even her own health and life - and part of her refuses to sacrifice more. She gets an opportunity for some happiness and pleasure, and she takes it.

And then we get to Anakin. Palpatine still preys on him by promising him the power to save Padmé’s life. Padmé’s death is no longer a feeling Anakin gets, but a very real and concrete scenario that is ostensibly inevitable.

The families of terminally ill people are often vulnerable to scams from ruthless people who promise them cures that don’t exist. It’s a very human weakness, that we can relate to more than “man has magical powers that make him sense the future (but it might be his own anxiety speaking)”.

This can also allow to tweak Anakin’s story throughout the prequels, because we don’t need his visions about his mother dying to “prove” that his visions about Padmé dying are something to be taken seriously, we need to visions at all. But this is beyond the scope of this post :)

And eventually Palpatine lies to Anakin, tells him she is dead. But she is still alive, she gives birth to her children, and hides with one of them under Bail Organa’s protection, who promises her to keep her safe for the few years she has left to live, and then to take care of her daughter.

The last time we see Padmé, she is heartbroken, but alive, although her health is significantly deteriorating, and it is clear to everybody that she is going to live very little longer. She says goodbye to her baby boy, and tells her baby girl that she’s going to try to be the best mother she can for the little time they will get to spend together.

We have known all along she is going to die when Leia is very young, so we know that she is right, that she is correct in feeling that she is going to die pretty soon. We don’t see her die on screen, but we still feel for her, because she is a person who has no hope left for herself.

The babies are a small beacon of hope, but she has no hope to see them grow.

It’s a tragedy, but she is still given agency, and is not killed by giving birth or heartbreak.

Okay so this is a alternate of @hanasnx starlet!reader but with my own little twist because I just love the scenery and the glamour of the shows <3 So I present to you: VSangel!reader x Hayden Christensen (let's ignore the fact that I've been working on some of these scenarios for YEARS now).

BACKGROUND:

Hayden has probably seen you in a big billboard before, maybe an ad on TV, but didn't remember your name. He thought you were hot though. A pretty little thing that was probably out of an old man's league anyway.

You are in your 20's, so you grew up with the Star Wars prequels and without a doubt Anakin Skywalker was your childhood crush. Posters on your walls, watching other movies Hayden was in just to see him. Most of your classmates probably made fun of your Star Wars obsession because you were only into it because of the hot guy in Revenge Of the Sith. How wrong they were!! It was also because of the hot guy in AOTC!

Also you're like a total SW geek, but we'll talk about it later.

THE BEGINING: How did you two meet?

Considering that both of you are from different areas of show business, you had to meet in a common ground. I don't see Hayden going to a fashion show before you (and then that's the only place paparazzi can catch him for sure <3). So after a lot of thought, you two met at an Award show (my mind goes automatically to the Tiff Tribute Awards). Or more specifically, the after party.

I picture Hayden saying hello to a couple of people he knows before heading to the bar and sticking around there, just sipping on his drink and greeting whoever comes along to shake his hand and pat his shoulder.

You already saw him back on the red carpet, making your best effort to not get your drooling face captured by a paparazzi. Your stunning dress and detailed makeup made you look like a million dollars !!!

And he noticed. Fuck, did he notice.

Walking by the bar, after pep talking yourself into talking to him for like half an hour, you pulled up right beside him to order yourself a drink. A cosmo or some shit like that. Very fancy and pretty, like you.

He was hypnotized by you the second he saw you up close. Actually, the second he saw your ass swinging his way.

That was it. You two were done for the moment your gazes crossed.

He made the first move, saying a polite "hey" and offering to call the bartender for you.

You were batting your eyelashes, grazing his biceps with your long nails and giving those "fuck me eyes" that worked every time. Someone so much more mature and wise, you didn't think he would want you for something besides fucking, so why did it matter if you were a bit sluttier than you were used to?

But you started talking and it was an actual good conversation. He seemed interested in getting to know you and his jokes actually made you laugh. He was all smooth with his compliments and subtle stares at your dress.

I feel like he would give you a nickname from the very first night. Something related to your attire or the sparkle of your eyes, accentuated by the glittery eye shadow.

It would be a downright shame to let that amazing chemistry go to waste for a meaningless hookup. Luckily he didn't let that happen.

Like a true gentleman, he walked you to your car, using the back door and called it a night. Not before asking for your number and teasing a goodnight kiss.

The next day, while you were getting ready to shoot a campaign, you receive a text from an unknown number, but you immediately knew who it was.

"Hey, starlight." There's a whole other version of this with them meeting over a smoke break, but I know that's not everyone's cup of tea.

BEFORE AND AFTER YOU:

Okay so let's set some things straight. Hayden's not a public guy. he hates having his private life printed on newspapers and he's not a fan of social media. At all. Heck. he doesn't even like to leave his house on weekends. But after you? He had to get used to it. You're this generation very own Gisele Bündchen. You're everywhere. You're everything. You are the fashion world. So paps are very much included in every moment of your life.

BEFORE GOING PUBLIC:

You tried to keep it hidden as much as you could. It was not very hard with you traveling almost every day and him living in LA, at his new house. And whenever he could, he escaped to his own little paradise in Canada.

So texting was basically everything you could do.

He even learned new lingo just to keep up with you :)

But you both craved more, so the next time you were in LA, you were going to grab dinner.

The damn paps got a few pictures of you and that's when the rumors started.

At first not many people recognized him, mainly because the pictures were taken from behind him, but the curls and the outfit ratted him out to a few observant fans.

But media didn't believe them, I mean, why? And the selected group that decided to run with that narrative used headliners like: "how the fuck did the awkward guy from SW pulled y/n's ass?"

After weeks of trying to be low-key for his sake: going on coffee runs using his caps and sunglasses so people wouldn't recognize you, having dinner dates at his house and/or choosing far away locations to stroll with a bit of privacy; you gave up. Your already public life was catching up with you two. So it was better to ride the wave than to escape it and fail in the process.

BUT BEFORE ABSOLUTELY GOING PUBLIC, I love the idea that interviewers were trying to drag the information out of you. Maybe at a red carpet or at an interview with a digital magazine, people would throw you some questions to see if you bite the bait:

"So, Y/n, who's your favorite SW character?"

And you would grin knowingly but never backing down. Your answer would vary from Obi-Wan Kenobi (to mess with Hayden) or R2 when you felt like sharing some of your SW passion.

But right before you two decide to go full-on public, you decide to mess with them, for your own entertainment: "You know, I do have a soft spot for Darth Vader."

PEOPLE GASPED AT THAT CRUMB OF CONFIRMATION.

GOING PUBLIC:

It was at a red carpet

You two went in separate cars

Hayden walked first, having his picture staken and signing autographs while you barely arrived at the event

The second you entered the carpet the cameras went off on you, total focus on getting pics of your designer dress

You were posing like an absolute goddess, answering some questions with wit, trying to spot your boyfriend with the corner of your eye

Finally you locked eyes and he raised a dubious eyebrow, like saying: "Are we seriously doing this?"

And you gave him a bright beam, stretching your arm to him as he walked to you, taking your hand and kissing the inner side of your forearm before placing it on his shoulder. Fingers dropping to your waist and pulling you to him while you laugh, his mouth lowering to your ear to whisper: "You always get your way, huh?"

You chuckled and kissed his cheek, you two turning to face the cameras, just for a few seconds before moving on.

DATING:

I'll not get into the heavy details of how you two managed to make your relationship work, with your traveling and photoshoots, because fuck that. I'll only say that there was a lot of sexting and he was a fucking natural at it. Mile high club as well.

You two would still try to remain unrecognizable by the paparazzis but more chill this time.

That meant having more pictures of you on your candle lit dinners or your fun Sunday mornings in the park out there.

I JUST KNOW THERE'S A PICTURE OF YOU KISSING IN THE PARK. YOU ON YOUR TIPPY TOES WHILE YOUR ARMS ARE AROUND HIS NECK. BIG GRIN ON YOUR FACES, LIKE IT WAS TAKEN SECONDS BEFORE YOUR LIPS MADE CONTACT.

The media would still release some mean headliners but thanks to the dilf culture cultivated in social media, some were actually rooting for you. Oh, and fans were torn between you; hating you because you were clearly fucking him and loving you because since your relationship started, you gave them more Hayden content.

The SW questions were constant in the interviews and talk shows, to the point that you were always brought some type of SW merch: a Grogu plush, a kids lightsaber, a little R2 replica. Whatever it was, it was always pulled whenever the question about you and Hayden was brought up.

You still kept answering "Obi-Wan" with a laugh and no additional information. "He has the high ground." You shrugged your shoulders, shaking your head with a cheeky smile.

Later in bed, when Hayden was giving you your daily dose of healthy cum :))) pounding into you with an admirable expertise, he whispers: "Who has the high ground now, baby?"

CLICHE BUT LET ME HAVE THIS

You never revealed to Hayden that he was your childhood crush, I mean, you could have mentioned it the first night but you didn't want to approach him like a fan. And then you didn't want to look psycho so you just let it be. And now it was too late.

But then

In the middle of an interview, a girl that actually gained your honest trust, asked you the anticipated question:

"How does it feel to date Anakin Skywalker?"

And... (the next bit was written by Indy during a brainstorm and I just wanted to share the exact words <3)

"in the interview you’re visibly nervous, rubbing on your knee, leaning forward, adopting a slackened posture. “yeah..” big grin, “he was actually my childhood crush.” “no!” the interviewer says in awe. “yeah! yeah,” you kinda laugh and cover your mouth. “i didn’t tell him. is that bad?” you put your nail in your teeth to fidget, putting on a little lovable twist to your face"

And then he sees the interview and he shots you an immediate text with the link like: "Oh???"

You know what you'll come home to

He's sitting on his usual chair, reading a book when he hears the door creak. You showed up with a shy smile, his arms opening up to let you crawl on his lap. Knowing that he'll bring it up, you hide on his neck, blush all over your cheeks. Hayden is caressing your thigh up and down, while he hugs you with his other arm and snorts: “did you keep that from me on purpose?” with a little swat on your ass (Indy, 2023).

THE REACTION OF PEOPLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA AFTER THE INTERVIEW. you cackle at the comments: "Not Y/n admitting she is dating her childhood crush!! She's one of us!!!" “HE WAS NOT” “bro no 😭 i thought she was single” “darth vader. you win again” (Indy, 2023).

Also dragging you to hockey games <333 you start to love the sport because of him but at first you didn't understand shit

He laughed at your reaction when you saw the first fight in the rink

"Do they just... start beating each other up and the ref let them?" You winced exaggeratedly.

"Yup." He laughs, drinking a sip of his beer.

Also opening the car door for you after a date night, protecting you from the paps???? That's a head canon I'll take from starlet!reader and apply it here because YES YES YES

FASHION SHOWS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

ofc he goes to your fashion shows !!!!! front line baby !!!!!!!! And he is so fucking proud of his beautiful girlfriend.

So motherfucking supportive it hurts.

He comes home and peppers kisses all over your face, praising you for a job well done.

"I would buy all the clothes you sell, baby"

Or if you wore something he particularly liked, he would be desperate to get home and show you just how much he loved your teeny tiny dress on the runway.

He even learned how to dress appropriately to match with your outfits. NEVER LEAVING THE CAPS BEHIND OFC !! But his personal style improved so much, we are proud of him :)

ALSO whenever he is out and spots an ad of yours he takes a picture of it and sends it to you. Maybe with a little heart or smile, or a little text like: "so proud of you baby." Sometimes he takes a selfie with the campaign!!! such a dad selfie, his head tilted back and kind of blurry because he's trying to get the right angle !!!!

also social media with him !!!! again, he doesn't have any active accounts but you do. For his sake, you don't post a lot of things about him, however, some things are too adorable not to share. And fans love you for the little crumbs you give them

He never thought he would be in this position. Front line at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. But he is. And he's there to support his girlfriend. Heck, that still sounds funny to him-

You're out there, strutting your gorgeous figure for the world to see: with your six inch heels, your pretty wings and tiny lingerie- You're a fucking dream. His dream.

He's there at the front line with the Proud Boyfriend club, along with Adam Levine (I know but he got us fooled for half a decade) and Caleb from Kings of Leon.

His heart is pounding hard when your face appears in the initial video where they present all of the models walking

The first time you walk, he stands up, cheering loudly and smiling brightly at you. You were opening the show!!!!! how huge!!!

You focus on the cameras and getting the pose right but when you turn, walking on the side he's in, you point at him, even blow him a kiss.

The other two times you walk, because the initial pressure is off, you can focus more on him, and shoot him a playful wink and/or wave at him. He's grateful that you're giving him that attention, now he can brag around with hard evidence. :)

They dressed you up in a very flirty little piece, a pair of panties with a black bow on your rear side. When you get to the end of the runway, you turn around and show it off, maybe even playfully shake a little.

You know you'll pay for it back home

You will also pay for flirting with the music guest in the middle of the runway

I mean, you were not flirting, just doing the regular thing of pointing at them and dancing with them for mere seconds. But the music guest really focused on you and your strut. Maybe you did take advantage of the moment to get him all jealous and get some angry sex out of it

He could understand that part of your job. It didn't mean he liked it. He made sure to send some backhanded comments in the after party to make sure the musical guest got the picture. That you were taken.

It was so fucking hot.

He loved loved loved your police woman outfit, offering to pay for it himself so you could take it with you.

He was a fan of your angelic look with the enormous big, white wings. Almost drowning you in feathers but making you look like a real life angel. You were to him at least :)

You take such cute pictures on the pink carpet <3 he's looking like arm candy, an absolute accessory of yours. And he was happy to do it ! It was your night and he couldn't be any happier to be there with you !

Although the paps did catch him while he was staring at your spilling boobs. But could you blame him? That dress was TIGHT.

"No! Of course not." You squealed, acting offended before cracking a sly smirk. "We are married." And you show off the rock on your left hand.

Canon divergence fics follow canon up to a point. They take place in the canon setting and may follow the canonical plotline fairly closely, before they began to spin off to their own direction. "What if Kikyo didn't die?" "What if Kagome never went back to the Feudal era?" "What if Kagome met Sesshoumaru first?" are all types of canon divergent fic scenarios.

Historical AU

A fic that takes place in an alternative setting that's in a different time period than the canonical setting. For SessKag, this could be anything any other time period than Sengoku era and up to the 1990s. SessKag in Heian era? Meiji era? Regency England? Any other time is a fair game.

Does Hindsight Make Anidala Indefensible? An analysis and a rebuttal(Part 1)

Follow up to this post

So I have stumbled onto an argument from a Jedi uncritical, one of the bigger ones whom have left the fandom months ago due to politics I will not talk about but I find quite disagreeable. This person claims that “If you step back look at the Star Wars universe as a whole, Anakin and Padme's relationship becomes near indefensible”. This is in part, they claim, because of the atrocities that Anakin set in motion--the turning on the Jedi by their "brothers" the Clones(which arguably is overblown by the fandom how close both groups are), the subsequent genocide of the Jedi, the subjagation of multiple worlds, the genocide of multiple species and the enslavement of multiple more, the total obliteration of Alderaan, and the rampant totalitarianism that all stemmed from his choice of personal love/possessiveness over the greater good.

While Anakin may have enabled such atrocities to happen with his bad life choices, and as Vader, was definitely complicit in them and deserves to be held accountable, can it really be blamed on his relationship with Padme? Was it all "everything was going out fine and Palpatine could easily be stopped...but Anakin decided his posessive desires was more important than the livelihood of billions of beings and plunged the galaxy into fascist tyranny?"

To answer that question we will need to ask ourselves the question: Was this chain of events likely even without Anakin? In order to prove this we need to envision a scenario where Anakin never falls in love with Padme and hypothesize from there.

If I can prove that Anakin and Padme falling in love has no bearing on either the Empire or Anakin's fall, then the answer would be that yes, the chain of events was likely without Anakin. And that ultimately, the galaxy would have suffered greatly with or without Padme and Anakin being together.

We will consider two scenarios, or “timelines”, feel free to call them by any name. Both scenarios branch from an alternative where Anakin still becomes a Jedi, but either never meets Padme or dosen't fall for her.

Timeline 1-Anakin dosen't fall for Padme and dosen't fall:

So let's think of an alternate timeline. Let's say that everything went the way Jedi uncriticals think it should. Anakin never falls in love with Padme(maybe he never saw Padme in her disguise in episode I but Qui-Gon finds him anyways and he is taken with them after winning the race) AND manages to let go of his mother. The war would likely unfold the same(except maybe Anakin isn't too hung up over Ahsoka leaving-assuming it happens-because he can "let go" more). And let's assume Palpatine has less of a hold onto Anakin. I could maybe see this Anakin spare Dooku. So far so good, it seems Dooku could be captured and brought to trial where he will blow the lid on everything...right.

...wrong. Palpatine likely has a contingency in place if Dooku is captured. Perhaps Grievous "disposes" of Dooku while they are escaping the Invisible Hand, perhaps some sort of deadly gas is filtered into his cell while awaiting trial, or perhaps the Jedi keep Dooku as prisoner, but Palpatine's infiltrators in the temple like the future Grand Inquisitor sneaks in and kills him; he could be in a easy position to do so given his role as a temple guard. So the lead with Dooku runs cold. Anakin maybe is made a master earlier and accepts more eagerly his mission to spy on the chancellor this time. However, without any "attachments" in his life, Palpatine won't openly confess that he's the sith lord and Anakin would be kept in the dark much longer. The Jedi are still spread thin in the Outer Rim sieges, likely Obi-Wan would still go to Utapau...I could maybe see this version of Anakin get assigned to Utapau too if Palpatine feels that he's onto him.

This branches out into three scenarios, and I will explore how each plays out, but note that none of these are particularly good for the galaxy at large:

Scenario 1: Eventually a while after Anakin is sent to Utapau, Windu would move to arrest the chancellor anyways and assuming Palpatine comes out on top(I know there is argument that Windu was stronger, but I think this is possible because he might fight harder against the Masters knowing Anakin won’t turn). As a result, the Empire still forms, Order 66 is declared except with Anakin also as a target, Jedi genocide still happens and the Empire would soon carry out the same atrocities it did in canon, and Death Star is still built, Geonosians still wiped out, and likely death star will be tested on a world with billions. Palpatine would likely take precaution to avoid Yoda and go off world ASAP so there will be no "hail mary" pass for the Jedi(and as we see later on, the hail mary pass would have its own problems).

Scenario 2: Alternatively Windu comes out on top, Sidious is defeated while Anakin and Obi-Wan kill Grievous on Utapau...galaxy is at peace...right? WRONG. Most likely the Jedi will seize the senate and install someone from the delegation like Bail or a more career-oriented Padme into power....except the majority of the senate, dominated by Palpatine loyalists would view this as a coup. While out of universe the Jedi could appear justified in preventing the autocratic consolidation of power, in universe, everyone has drank Palpatine's kool-aid. Hell Padme says so how liberty died with thunderous applause in ROTS itself.

What follows is that the Senate likely invokes Order 65 and gets rid of the pro-democracy chancellor, likely installing Tarkin, Amedda or, if we set this in the legends timeline or some sort of hybrid timeline, one of Palpatine's co-conspirators in legends like Sate Pestage or Ishin-Il-Raz into power. Some sort of Order 66 is declared since Palpatine's inner circle were mostly in on the conspiracy to start an empire(or alternatively there is a dead man's switch/order embedded in the chips if Palpatine would fall; in Legends this is a moot point anyways since Clones would act with full agency and there was no chips there), Clones still turn on the Jedi and Jedi genocide happens anyways.

End result is that Empire still forms and given how a lot of Palpatine's accomplices were coreist human supremacists and the tendency of Core worlds to drift towards said mentalities, most of the species and civilizations wiped out by the Empire would still be enslaved or wiped out by the empire. Death Star is still built, still tested on a world with a population in the billions, and Geonosians still wiped out as a species to cover it up. Potentially this version of the Empire might actually be more durable than Palpatine's Empire, driven by a fascist "ideology" over Palpatine's whims, and better indoctrinate the more fanatical elements of the population, whom, already having anti-Jedi sentiments, would view Palpatine as a martyr killed by the Jedi and eat it all up. Galaxy is doomed to even longer oppression despite Windu's good intentions.

Scenario 3: Palpatine wins against the Masters, excecutes Order 66, Jedi Order gets decimated. Anakin, Obi-Wan and Yoda manage to regroup on Coruscant and kill Palpatine and install a member of the delegation as chancellor.....except nothing changes and scenario 2 plays out with the Senate turning on the Jedi, except with the Jedi even more decimated to face the rising Empire carried fourth by Palpatine's loyalists because this is after Order 66.

So it's clear that an Anakin that never fell would not be able to stop the Empire, and the Jedi's actions might actually stop Palpatine but cause the galaxy to fall into a longer darkness.

And of course, Timeline 1 assumes the best case scenario for the Jedi regarding Anakin. Which begs the question....What if Anakin still falls anyways? This is something that needs to be considered.

Timeline 2-Anakin doesn't fall for Padme but falls to the Dark Side anyways:

Contrary to what Jedi uncriticals think, Anakin's possessiveness is not tied to a pure obsession with Padme, but rather his failure to accept loss and death as part of life and how the Jedi never really gave him room to process it all. His first jump down the dark side would be the slaughter of the Tusken Raiders in canon/legends over the loss of his mother.

This means that without Padme, Anakin is still due for some sort of reckoning with the Dark Side through his mother's imminent death. Perhaps he still sneaks off to find his mother, she dies and he still carries out his massacre. Perhaps he is prevented from doing so, but he feels her death through the force and is emotionally devastated and in both cases he's not gonna learn to "let go" and is not gonna resent the Jedi for not letting him save her.

This puts him in a good position to be further groomed by Palpatine, who would stoke his "failure" to save his mother or even go to tatooine to save her and scapegoat the Jedi. Likely Ahsoka would still be assigned to Anakin to test if he can let go and eventually she would get framed. He would develop a fatherly or big brother style attachment to Ahsoka as a friend/daughter figure/sister figure and she would still leave and devastate him. And this would still come on top of the Rako Hardeen incident with Obi-Wan. So potentially Palpatine has quite a bit to work with even without Padme. He could lure him in with the idea that the dark side would offer him the means to protect those he loves, perhaps using some other Sith lord with a strong attachment bond with someone regardless of the context.

While this draws on legends and infers a hybrid canon, I can see, in an alternate version of the Opera House, Palpatine tempting Anakin with with the legend of Darth Revan(or alternatively a revisionist and distorted version of the story that omits his redemption) and how he acted against Jedi directives to fight the Mandalorians, or even Darth Vectivus, who supposedly moreso used his powers to protect his family and those closest to him over contributing to the grand plan(or arguably more likely had the appearance of moral decency; apparently that was the implication in legends--however don't expect this alternative version of Palpatine to tell this alternative single version of Anakin that!)

But anyways the distrust with the council would still be there, this version of Anakin would be still goaded into killing Dooku. He would likely still turn and from here on out with Palpatine claiming that he needs to use the dark side to protect those that he loves, things would get even worse. Potentially, whereas canon!Vader beat himself up mentally for the rest of his life for losing Padme, this version of Vader would be far more irredeemable and subsumed into the dark side. Obi-Wan might not find Vader on Mustafar to put a stop to him and Ahsoka would still crash land onto that moon with Rex and could not get to him early on to get him to see reason.

Assuming that Palpatine dosen't engineer Ahsoka or Kenobi's death himself, it is highly likely that if they were to meet again, this version of Vader might actually dispose of Obi-Wan or Ahsoka--perhaps Palpatine could spread rumors that his friends betrayed him and didn't deserve him. Without any love for Padme or Luke to save him, this Vader one day kills Palpatine in order to become the Sith Master and rules the Empire as an irredeemable power-mad tyrant until he is killed by his own apprentice. Or even worse, Palpatine bodyjacks him with essence transfer and rules for eternity.

Suppose Obi-Wan and Yoda, not knowing Vader is on Mustafar, kill Palpatine and manage to wait out on Coruscant enough to kill Vader as well....that still means that the Senate will declare any chancellor they install as illegitimate and commit to the empire anyways under a Palpatine loyalist.

Summary/Observations:

So overall the conclusion is that Anakin and Padme's relationship actually did not have that much of a bearing on a 1000 year old evil plan that Palpatine carried through to its fruition. If Anakin did not fall, it is likely that either Palpatine still wins, or Palpatine loses but the Empire still wins. A lot of the systemic issues in the Republic existed independent of Anakin, Padme, and even Palpatine.

It also fails to understand the root cause of Anakin's possessiveness was not because he was supposedly "obsessed" over one woman in his life but because of his inability to deal with loss, in part because the easy to read into implication that the Jedi barred all communications from Shmi(which was confirmed in legends canon) and refused to hold up their end of the bargain. Without Padme, that distrust would still be there, and he could easily project his possessiveness into Ahsoka or even Obi-Wan, and there is plenty of means for Palpatine to manipulate for his ends.

Do I believe the fall of the republic was inherently inevitable? No.

But was it also tied purely to Anakin’s choices, the actions of the Jedi during one pivotal event, and specifically the choice of loving one specific woman? Also No.

And as you can see, this is just part 1 of my analysis. In part 2 of my analysis I will further critique the implications of the Jedi uncritical fan perspective on Anakin’s fall and frankly some of the disturbing implications therein.

i wanted to post this forever ago but i’ve been reading soooo slowly lol and i still have like 30 fics bookmarked that i want to read ntm trying to find old fics i liked but didn’t bookmark. i think most of these are one shots altho some of them are series or multi chapter. i put a lil star next to the ones that are multi chapter if you’re someone who wants something long to read. also, the ones that are pretty colors are the ones i’m very fond of.

ALSO, i am always trying to recreate the absolute high i get whenever the fire of our blood and the black widow update. i like to rec them bc i love them but also bc one is very pro greens and ones very pro blacks and i personally love how differently they approach the question ���can the dance ever actually be avoided?” with their stories. from ashes to embers by ladyalianora -> ✨rhaenyra is reborn just before viserys takes a wife, told by the gods she must attempt to stop the war. plays kinda fast and loose with timelines and canon (it's a mix of show and books). i adore the characterization of rhaenyra in it. butterfly effects away all of the kids.

all you have is your fire (and the place you need to reach) by sunchaser -> ✨rec-ed by @camagueyys rhaenyra and qoren are engaged in order to bring dorne into the realm. as part of the agreement, qoren comes to foster at king's landing until rhaenyra is of age, where they will move to Summerhall, which will become rhaenyra’s seat to pass onto her children. except, of course, people die and the line of succession for dorne and the iron throne starts getting very complicated. i love the concept of rhaenyra marrying qoren and i like the way this fic explores that, and also i love how aemma and alicent are written in this.

longing comes running by theicedragon -> ✨wherein rhaenyra's first born is a daughter named velaena instead of a son named jacaerys. velaena becomes rhaenyra's heir and develops an interesting relationship with her uncle aemond. this is my new obsession. i love the way the fic really digs into how gender and legitimacy intersect and the ways that would impact valaena (and rhaenyra). i reblogged a graphic for it a while back too, show the author some love if you're interested!

An Excerpt From Chapter Two ("The Heiress and the Eldest Son”) of Maester Orwyle’s History of Rhaenyra I's Reign by lamelessnes -> incredibly short (like 350 words) but it’s written in the style of fire and blood and i think it’s fun. AU where Rhaenyra is forced to marry Aegon.

when first we faced, and touching showed (how well we knew the early moves) by mrdcai -> rhaenyra pushes harder for jacaerys and helaena to marry, so alicent is forced to allow the two to spend time together to see if they suit. there's a heavy focus on romantic rhaenicent that i love in this one, and it’s also just (imo) well done in how the relationships all develop. i’m very fond of this one!

breakdowns by raybyanothername -> a bunch of aus where person a has a breakdown in front of person b and it avoids the dance. the pairings were really fun and interesting!!

Worldbuilding: Collapsing Empires

One of our classic stories is the band of Plucky Rebels against the Evil Empire. I will boldly go on record as saying I love these stories. Who doesn’t want to cheer on the rag-tag determined heroes fighting against overwhelming odds? (See Star Wars, The Last Starfighter, The Magnificent Seven, and so many others.)

On the other hand I also read history, and so there’s something I’ve noticed. While the urge to create an empire seems to be a human constant, individual empires always fall. Eventually.

I’m sure there are many reasons for this. I’ll give you a few I’ve noticed; you can probably suggest more. The three I’ve got are environmental shifts, out of context problems, and the elite desire to stay in power at all costs.

Each of these can, of course, feed into the others. Here’s a few examples.

Environmental shifts are nasty. Some are from human land use - deforestation and gold or lead mining do numbers on large areas - but others are just the solar system giving you a Bad Era. To be very general, our climate tends to alternate between periods of warmer and more predictable weather, and cooler, less predictable weather patterns. (You can in fact have a scorching drought or a dozen in an Ice Age. It’s just on average cooler.)

Empires tend to get started and grow during the good times, to the point they’re right on the edges of their ecological limits as to how many people can make a living without starving. And then a bad spot hits. And things go sideways. As they say of bankruptcies, first slowly, then all at once. Famines usually start in some spots, and the empire handles it, getting ever more stressed - and then worse weather sparks floods and mudslides, and out of that ecological havoc you tend to get plagues, and between plague and famine you can’t feed or levy enough troops.... And then law and empires collapse as everyone scrambles madly to survive and people who were on the empire’s borders try to make out like a bandit. Pun fully intentional.

A “sudden” (usually over decades) climate change might be considered an out of context problem... but I had more direct and weirder things in mind. At one point, for example, we had archaeological evidence that the Luwian Kingdom might have been wiped out by a comet strike. Current archaeology thinks not, but the scenario still remains possible for fiction. Not to mention the scholarly wrangling over what really happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. It looks like the real-life cities were on a very oil-rich plain. So theoretically, if a meteor shower came down and punched a few holes....

But you don’t have to look to outer space. Cortez and other conquistadores showed up from across the Atlantic with a deep history of warfare that was an extremely out of context problem for the Aztecs, Incas, and many more. (Yes, diseases played a big role. But historically the conquistadores legit beat local armed forces high, wide, and handsome.) Joseon Korea and Tokugawa Japan had similar problems with the rest of the world. Anna and the King is a fictionalized version of the King of Siam trying to ease his kingdom into a soft landing in the modern world. I can only imagine the battles he must have had with his court over that.

Which leads to the third reason I see empires fall. If a ruler wants to keep ruling, and doesn’t trust his people, he has to make sure no one else is strong enough to oppose him. But keeping everyone too weak to fight you means that sooner or later, they’re too weak and corrupt to fight someone else.

And on the edges of an empire, there is always Someone Else.

Side note: This is one of many reasons I think a republic is the best government to create and maintain a nation. Ideally we have people in power getting overthrown all the time. We just do it on an agreed-upon regular basis. Unfortunately that was also supposed to apply to all bureaucracy....

Anyway. If you’re writing Plucky Rebels against the Evil Empire, go for it! But you might want to also poke some history and see if any of these real-world factors apply. Smart rebels take advantage of an existing crisis! Just ask Li Zicheng.

Look. I do as a matter of fact think it's possible to be in a fandom and interact with material you've never consumed.

I think I've managed to make it through maybe 2 episodes of Stargate Atlantis (I'm an SG-1 original team person) and yet I have happily enjoyed quite a lot of SGA material to the point I could probably plot out a bunch of the story arcs of the first few seasons, given the type of fic I enjoy. There's a lot of Star Wars and MCU material I have never personally touched but I do know the gist of. I was introduced to the Vorkosigan Saga via a crossover. I have occasionally read stuff where I didn't know the source material when it's been from favourite writers.

There's even material that I have personally chosen not to interact with as I know it'll make me hugely angry that I spend a lot of time buried in the results and riffs from. (TKJ take a bow)

But I guess I just don't understand the urge to create when you want to respond to Specific Scenario but go out of your way to never interact with any material that actually addressed that Specific Scenario. And then get mad when people who are across the Specific Scenario question what you know about it. How can you say you don't think Element has been properly addressed if you refuse to look at it?

For instance, I think it is perfectly possible not to read TKJ but to have read any of the material responding to it, particularly Suicide Squad, Oracle Year One, Birds of Prey, heck even Simone's Batgirl, and feel comfortable commenting on the outcomes of the story. I even think it's possible to appreciate the work of something like The Oracle Code in providing and creating an alternate version of events and understand the work done there to provide an alternate route for Barbara's situation.

I don't get the urge to dig into the effect TKJ has on Bruce or Jim, in response to the situation, without touching at least one story where their emotions over the situation are discussed.

write the fics you wanna read, right? i starting writing both of these alternate universes cos thus far, i have not stumbled on these concepts in my ao3 trawling. i really enjoy hearing from the handful of people that also like these extremely particular little worlds of mine, and i hope i find more of you to share them with crossposting here :)

Arla Fett is in the middle of her galaxy-spanning vengeance bloodbath, murdering all the Kyr'stad chakaare who ever abused her and living her best life after the Jai'galaare, a Mandalorian company of femme, queer, trans, nb & buir warriors, freed her from Tor Vizsla's abusive grasp and invited her to join their ranks.

When she finally goes after Meltch-karking-Krakko, the womp rat himself, she anticipates complications; he was, after all, the most sadistic of Vizsla's trainers. Killing Krakko is easier than she expects- but figuring out what to do with the tiny murder kitten of a zabrak she may have accidentally, impulsively, sort-of-maybe-just-a-little-bit kidnapped on her way out of Orsis Academy is much, much more difficult.

Upon finishing his nearly disastrous mission to Cog Hive Seven, Darth Maul returns to his Master expecting criticism at the very least, punishment at worst. He does not expect to be told that his entire life has been a lie, that his Master is still a Sith Apprentice, and that he has been summoned to serve at the whim of the true Sith Master, Darth Plagueis.

Lord Plagueis, a monstrously powerful sadistic scientist, presents Maul with a test, and an ultimatum: prove himself worthy of the destiny that has been snatched from his grasp, a successor- perhaps even a replacement- for his Master, Lord Sidious... or be consigned to the bowels of the Sith laboratories at Aborah as an experimental subject. Maul has only one resource to aid him as he attempts to learn espionage, diplomacy, Sith alchemy and galactic etiquette in record time- Plagueis's captive Jedi Knight, experimental subject 1138, otherwise known as the infuriating togruta female Chaitali Zugasti.

He is not allowed to kill her. She wants nothing more than to die and stay dead, to be freed at last from Plagueis's nightmarish experiments, but if she is to die, she will die a true Jedi- attempting to save the boy raised in darkness that is enslaved alongside her and cannot see his chains.

1) Oh most definitely Chris and Jake would reenact so many Star Wars duels, especially Obi Wan vs Anakin as they can float around which make doing those fancy acrobatics all the easier. Bonus points if they utilize those cardboard tubes and paint them to their lightsaber colors and Jake using his speaker’s speakers to play the music in the background

Otherwise, they certainly would also do the Dragon Escape but most tellingly if Meredith was watching them, reenact kaiju battles

2) Oh, Jake putting Milk Before Cereal which horrifies not just Chris but also Mar’i and Dick

Also, Chris not minding the dumb fun of the Bayformers films as much as Jake does

3) I think I can have Clark, Lois, Kara, Conner, Chris and Jon get blasted across space and time, across multiple time periods, alternate histories or possible futures of Metropolis during a big battle against the Time Trapper. For example, Lois winds up in Metropolis in 1889 during the height of the Gilded Age, her mini adventure being to expose a corrupt all powerful banker while Conner is sent into a Metropolis that’s controlled by Germany in a scenario should they had won the Second World War. The finale for the arc would see the Superman Family reunite at the End of Time itself coming face to face with the Trapper, but it won’t be just the family as many of their new friends they met all across their little adventures assemble to help as well.

4) Less of an entire story and more a one to two issue arc involving Nightwing Phantom taking on a cosmic being in a game of wits and intelligence rather than fisticuffs, all for the sake of saving reality itself. Think this being akin to say A 4th Dimension Imp like Mr Mxyzptlk or more overtly the Celestial Toymaker from Doctor Who. The real meat though is whatever thoughts and emotions are transpiring inside of Chris’ mind space as I place this after he has his reaffirmation from Dad Clark of him belonging to Earth in light of Zod’s invasion. He thinks about this planet he’s trying to truly accept as his home in spite of his origins and how much he must defend it from this entity while also trying to reaffirm himself that he belongs with his real family the Kents despite Zod’s words permeating his thinking space.

5) Here, I take some inspiration from the Batman TAS episode “The Underdwellers” in which like in that episode, Jake would be investigating some recent pickpocketing going on across the Bludhaven streets, all of them being committed by street urchins and runaways, a lot of them around his age range doing such under the tyrannical rule of a supposed caretaker who treats them rather horribly. After running into one of the urchins and rescuing them from an incoming subway train, Jake and the kid become friendly with each other to where the kid can lead our hero to the whereabouts of his comrades. Coming along for the ride is one of Jake’s rouges, long time best frenemy Cody Cunningham aka Lion Master, who also had caught wind of the pickpocketing so he comes along with Skybird in this investigation, forming something of an alliance between them. This proves handy as like the Sewer King in “The Underdwellers”, the villain has vicious sewer gators that serve him which Cody’s lions are able to fend off while Skybird persues and eventually captures the villain. With that, the orphans are finally freed from his reign, taken in by the Services and able to see the light outside once again. Throughout this story, we not only can get glimpses into Jake’s head as this in a way is deja vu with his history of failing to save street orphans from a supervillain once before but also once Lion Master enters the picture, the two can have talks about each other’s deal and how Lion Master in many ways just wants a place to call a home after surviving in the streets for so long and his sympathies for Jake’s situation in light of this case.

As the two were successful working together and Cody realizes he feels much better doing some actual good rather than remaining a small time thief with a gimmick, he finally takes up Jake’s offer to renounce his old life as a rouge, first turning himself in to the authorities and spending some time in Juvie to make up for his robberies (his lions we’re thankfully tamed enough for the authorities to keep in that meantime) then once he gets out of his sentence for good behavior, moves into the Grayson Apartment complex with a place of his own. A new fresh start for him, especially when his new landlord, Dick Grayson, drops by and hearing of his skills as a lion tamer offers him and his feline companions a job at Haly Circus.

100% agree on the entire tekken fandom being so fucking weird with jin kazama smh (especially fucking reddit, twitter, and the youtube comments section which is why i rarely look up tekken content on those sites in particular). that would be like if you were a star wars fan and you can't even enjoy luke skywalker without someone talking about how "luke tried to kill his own nephew yet he forgave his father, he is a hypocrite and a bad hero you're a bad person if you like luke". just like luke in star wars the last jedi, jin was ooc as fuck in tekken 6. even the writers themselves admitted they didn't want to do this, it only happened because of harada and they got so much backlash for that character assassination back when tekken 6 was first released. so why...why for over 10 years do i have to constantly see so many unfunny repetitive jokes, hate, and slander about jin kazama. why is the only thing i see when i look up jin is "ww3" for the billionth time. why did i have to see people making customizations of jin dressing up like h*tler, p*tin, and fucking s*suke uchiha. why do i have to see fucked up fan fiction of kazuya, miguel, or fucking s*suke uchiha raping and torturing jin kazama to "punish him for his war crimes and also because he never suffered what kazuya/miguel/s*suke suffered from". i'm also so sick and tired of seeing fucking s*suke uchiha stans and r/Tekken daring to comparing my boy jin kazama to that stupid uchiha from naruto who is a misogynistic egotistical narcissistic irredeemable skinny femboy twink asshole. jin would never try to kill xiaoyu multiple times, unlike s*suke who tried to kill two women who admired him. jin has no ego unlike that ego obssessed jerk s*suke. jin is actually handsome and hot, he's a muscular toned man and not just anohter generic femboy twink. jin was never cruel to either her or hwoarang. if anything jin was always more like itachi uchiha, jin always said "forgive me" to his opponents and his motivation, both jin and itachi have the whole black feather aesthetic, both jin and itachi hate their own bloodline, and jin's goal is to kill/stop his own bloodline for the greater good just like itachi. jin would fucking choke and then brutally murder s*suke for what he did to both team 7 and team taka. damn it harada, why didn't you just retcon it like how you retconned kazumi having the devil gene but not jinpachi. why didn't they just say that jin kazama was brainwashed by azazel or something. sometimes i can't help but think about an alternative timeline where tekken 6 scenario campaign never happened, jin was still loved and the side characters (ex. Asuka and Paul) were not made irrelevant joke characters and had something to do.

forgive me if i got a bit too extreme here, but i...i...i just had to let out my emotions now. jin has always been important to me, he's my childhood crush and also one of my biggest comfort characters (along with mitsuru from persona 3 and kiryu from yakuza). which is also why i'm so glad i found posts like these, my feelings feel validated.

Oh believe me, I feel ya, anon. I guess this is just what they call the pain of loving a cursed character doomed by both the fandom and the narrative... but in the end, we all know what's actually beneath all that and that there is much more than meets the eye to Jin (and other characters too).

Also, comparing Jin to fucking P*tin and H*tler is.... something entirely else and I am honestly terrified of those people if their reading comprehension leads them to these comparisons. I just-

Another scenario:

Desmond is hunting down a target, and it’s someone the Jedi are either arresting or escorting or guarding, so Des is just “damn, okay” and takes out the target before disappearing without anyone seeing his face (helmet/mask thing with the hood ofc)

I've read DLB like four times by now, and every time, I kept daydreaming about alternate scenarios where someone found out about Leia being from the future. You've really managed to build up sooo much emotional tension. I'm really excited to see what kind of scenarios people came up with. While I will definitely enjoy any piece you write, I'd love some good old hurt comfort with Leia, Padmé and the handmaidens. If you find the time, I'd like to request a scene where Padmé and the handmaidens already know that Leia is the Organa's future daughter, and they observe how talking to Bail in the senate tears her apart. Cue for some comfort and a much-needed hug. Also, thank you so much for writing such an incredible story! I can't put into words how invested I am and how much I enjoy reading it every time.
