It’s baby’s first fanfic! I had a lot of fun writing this and talking about it with @untrainedpoetry who gave me the idea and beta read for me. I have no idea how punctuation works so thank you so much!
I have a few more fics planned in this verse and I can’t wait to get started on them!

Anybody else get any formal requests for collaboration from a supposed concept artist on their old FF.net account recently?
I just got one from someone named Gloria Jenkins, and a quick google tells me that there is a Gloria Jenkins who's been a storyboard artist for many children's cartoons starting in the 90's, and there's a Gloria Jenkins with an Artstation account, who may or may not be the same person, but the art in that account is much more consistent with the "concept artist and fan of high fantasy literature" the person from this message claims to be. (I also can't imagine a veteran children's cartoon artist wanting to collab with me, considering the kinds of stuff I write, unless they have a more diverse portfolio that it would seem lol.)
Anyway, I've been on the internet far too long to not be suspicious of something like this. This Gloria person is messaging from an empty account made a couple of days ago, and there's a few possible innocent explanations for that, but the scam possibility is also high.

💛💙SPIRK FIC REC💙💛
This is a wonderfully sweet and also fairly hilarious TOS fic by the insanely talented @jennelikejennay. Set after The Motion Picture. Jim and Spock have defeated V'Ger, saved the Earth, and finally confessed their feelings for each other. Everything is going great.
And then Spock's ten-year-old niece shows up on the doorstep, demanding to be taught the Vulcan way.
Neither of them has ever raised a child before. But she seems pretty well-behaved. How hard can it be? 😂😂😂

Brett my beloved, you deserve the world... but everything else ... help
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listen, we all know Janeway's not going anywhere since she's alive in Picard S3, but I always had this dread that the reason why no one mentioned Chakotay is because he's.................... And I am very much going to NOPE that. There is a reason people weren't big fans of Picard and it's because it was heavily leaning on tragedy in a franchise that's supposed to be about a bettter future.
Brett deserves S3 and beyond. Kate deserves to take time off from giving (outdated) ideas.

So many fics have Sarek being barely tolerant of Jim at best even when he’s a kid but just once I want to see him be the protective future in law.
Give me Sarek white knuckling his control when his son brings home his first friend a too small, skittish human child. Give me Jim bumping into Sarek on accident and flinching back but not before Sarek can get a read on his emotions and is nearly floored by the amount of terror in the child. Give me Sarek using every last one of his logical arguments and political favors to get Jim out of his home and somewhere safe. Give me Sarek in full Growly Protective Vulcan Mode because he sees Jim as part of their family already (it is only logical after all. Even the most cursory of observations show that James and his son will one day have a bond strong enough to rival any ever recorded) and therefore his to protect.
Give. Me. Good. Dad. Sarek.

I plop down at my computer screen with a fresh mug of tea and say enthusiastically, “I’m going to get so much work done on my WIP!” I open said WIP and begin adding a few notes before recalling the SVSSS prompt I thought up the night before.
“Oh, I’ll just jot a short paragraph for that real quick in my MXTX folder. Won’t take, but a second!!” I hum quietly to myself as I open a new document and start writing. The cats watch on in judgmental silence.
I type a quick paragraph, but I have more ideas swirling around my head. I should write them down right now, I think, or I’ll forget them and they’ll be lost to the wasteland of time which would be sad.
It won’t take long, I reassure myself.
So I type another, and another.
Soon, a beautiful plot summary in unraveling before my eyes and I am three pages deep in single spaced, 12 Times New Roman font. I have ten tabs open for various research purposes. I have drunk my cup of tea, made another, and drunk that too.
Startlingly, my alarm goes off. I glance at the clock.
It is time for bed. It has been three hours.

Fic Rec Tuesday…. Sorry
I swear I didn’t forget but I did pass out in the wee hours of the night.
Also it’s official people I have ADHD and it feels like such a relief. I haven’t been imagining things I’m not just lazy.
Also on even happier news I’ve started meds!!! One is a stimulant and it hasn’t been long enough to know if it will be the right match for me. The other is a sleepy time meds and oh my gosh I took it last night and didn’t even finish my doodle 😱 I slept a solid 8 hours and I woke up feeling??? Good???
Anywho the fic of the week is Young Friends by jj_soong. It is a cute story following a transporter accident. Spock and Jim get beamed back as children. It is just such a sweet and cute story. It’s not a dirty fic and even if you don’t normally do kid fic it is worth the try. Normally kid fic isn’t my thing either but I’m glad I read it. It is still under work so it would be awesome if we could just flood the author with love and support 😊

Here is my doodle for y’all 😊

it is so funny to see other people who go with the O'Briens polycule thing but its clearly just an excuse for them to sideline Keiko and ignore her and ship Julian/Miles without guilt. like you ship this polycule cause of misogyny. I ship this polycule because I am blessed with divine visions. we are not the same

A Good Day
For my fic Terrhaha
A little Romulan girl who just walked out of the gift shop at the Ki Baratan Zoo on Romulus. The Terran wildlife exhibits are her favorite, so she begged her parents to get her a stuffed animal of Henry the crocodile, a Zion the tiger bracelet, and a balloon of one of the stegosaurs from the paleontology hologram exhibit. Now, she’s asking her dad if she can have an osol twist.

Jim and Spock visit each other’s houses.
I’ve really been enjoying this AU and I can’t wait to get further into it, just ask @untrainedpoetry I was way ahead of myself with a bit of story building this time around.

I've now finished the first season of Star Trek: Prodigy and overall I like it. It's much more of that classic Star Trek vibe I love, it's not dystopia-poisoned and all the old characters that have shown up so far are very cool.
It is kind of exhausting as well, I put it down to being a kids' series - SO MANY extremely stupid problems that are just comical misunderstandings and lack of clear communication leading to world-ending catastrophies that need to be averted, or to our heroes getting in trouble for things that aren't their fault, everything moves extremely fast and is always super tense and you're always cringing hoping that things can be saved just in time... and on top of that everyone causes extra problems on purpose.
Of course my main issue is that they named the show "Prodigy" and then had the main villain constantly refer to his "progeny" which it took me half a season to realize were two different words

I'm pretty sure the AOS timeline was just an excuse to heap more whump on Spirk to egg on the hurt/comfort writers.
I mean Jim loses his dad the minute he was born and as a result his mother will forever see his father when she looks at him and his own birthday will be subsumed by the day his father was killed. And then his mother remarries and Jim's stepfather is an alcoholic piece of shit who drives Sam away, causing the good little boy called Jim to finally snap and spiral into bad habits and bad attitudes made even worse because his mother decides to send him to Tarsus IV and Jim has to deal with a genocide and starvation before being carted back 'home' and only joining Starfleet because Pike dares him to.
Then you have Spock who is tormented relentlessly by his peers for not conforming to Vulcan standards, whose father desperately wants his son to fit in and be normal but has not the slightest clue how to raise a child whose human half is crying out for some sort of physical parental affection. An affection that his Vulcan side refuses to get from his willing mother because of all the pressure to fit in. And then, after he manages to go above and beyond and gets a place at the Science Academy, his heritage is insulted yet again when the head Vulcan board member insults Spock's human mother and Spock's father refuses to defend her. So Spock leaves everything he's built his life towards and instead turns to Starfleet. To become the only Vulcan in the whole insitution.
Then, for kicks, they blow up Vulcan and Spock has to watch, helpless, as his mother falls to her death inches from his outstretched hand as he rematerialises on the Enterprise with the dust of his now-dead planet sticking to his face.
Its like they took Kirk and Spock, made them younger and more impressionable, and then just went to town on them with a baseball bat.
TOS Kirk and Spock have their problems, don't get me wrong, TOS Kirk had to go through Tarsus as well and TOS Spock's childhood was no picnic, but AOS decided to speedrun the trauma and dump as much as possible on these two before either of them turned 30. TOS Spock and Kirk had years of experience to draw from, AOS Kirk and Spock were thrown into a meatgrinder the minute Jim 'graduated'.

30 Days of Prodigy, day 4: Coffee
Or: 5 times Dal R'El tasted coffee
The first time Dal R’El tasted coffee, it was an accident. During his brief stint as Admiral Janeway, her ship’s doctor had ordered him to drink it and he tried to keep his cool, he really did. But the stuff was disgusting - even more disgusting than anything they used to pass off as food on Tars Lamora. So he spit it out, all over the bridge of the USS Dauntless.
***
The second time Dal tasted coffee was definitely not his fault. He was just settling back into his own body when he caught the taste of something familiar…
“Ok,” he demanded between gulps of replicated root beer, “who let her drink coffee in my body?”
“She said it helps her think,” Gwyn offered with a shrug.
“What’s so bad about it? Our Janeway drinks it all the time!” Rok-Tahk chimed in.
“It’s awful - it tastes like sour rotten vegetables and I am banning it from this ship!”
“Yes, Captain,” Zero said in a tone that made it clear they would be rolling their eyes, if they had any.
***
The third time Dal tasted coffee, he did so in secret. He kept thinking about how Admiral Janeway said it helped her think, and how her doctor had ordered him to drink it, and how even Hologram Janeway often had a cup in her hand. He began to wonder if all good captains drink coffee and if so, he’d better learn to like it.
And maybe if he was prepared for it, it wouldn’t be so bad.
So he waited until the rest of the crew was asleep and then he snuck into the mess hall. He ordered a coffee from the replicator, pinched his nose shut, and took a tentative sip.
Nope. Still disgusting he thought as he finished wiping up the coffee he had reflexively spat all over the bulkhead.
***
The fourth time, Dal had become determined to conquer his vile enemy. He had never been one to give up and he wouldn’t start now!
The next night, he snuck to the mess hall again. His mantra, as he approached the replicator, was “Real Captains don’t spit out their coffee. Real Captains don’t spit out their coffee.”
Dal spit out his coffee.
Feeling defeated, he sunk into the nearest chair and covered his face with his hands. How would his crew ever respect him if he couldn’t do something as simple as swallowing a sip of coffee?
“I thought that stuff was banned on this ship.”
“Janeway!” Dal exclaimed as he jumped to his feet and began fumbling for an answer.  “I, uh, I didn’t - I thought -“
“I just want to be a good captain,” he wailed. “And all good captains drink coffee! Admiral Janeway, you, even Captain Chakotay has a mug in that holo-recording!” He hurled himself back into the chair and flung his head down on the nearest table. Though his arms covered his face, it was clear that he was trying very hard not to cry.
Janeway studied her young captain for a moment and decided not to correct this assumption when he was so distressed. Instead she chose a different tactic.
“Chakotay always ruined his coffee with too much cream and sugar,” she said with an amused shake of her head.
Dal looked up at her, suddenly hopeful. “You mean, I’m allowed to add stuff??”
***
The fifth time Dal tasted coffee, it was loaded up with milk, sugar, and even chocolate syrup. It was a pale tan color, rather than the deep dark brown he was accustomed to and it smelled of sweetness, with only a faint hint of sour vegetables - and only if you knew to look for it.
This time, Dal did not spit out the coffee.
Maybe, he thought, I might be a good captain after all.
