being in the DS9 fandom, you'll discover there are so many ways for people to be wrong about julian bashir
#wow i don't like a lot of you#baffled at how a predominantly autistic fanbase can be so contemptful of autistic behaviour#buddies i think you're the ones who are cringe. see i cringe WITH julian not against him#and not even just that#theres the ''julian is stupid about everything that isn't medicine'' thing#fuck you that man is a starfleet officer and he's a genius. i saw him fix a console and i was genuinely surprised because of this shit#''julian is stupid'' ''julian is annoying'' ''julian is insufferable'' ''julian deserves to be bullied'' and so on and so forth#wow. i hate. all of you. and based on the way y'all talk? you guys would hate me too#oh and worst take of all. like on a moral level:#''julians parents were in the right for doing what they did. its natural for a parent to want to have a normal child''#and other such ableist takes. literally i have seen people like that#i saw somebody baffled by that ep being like ''what did julians parents do wrong. they helped him. what is julian upset about''#and holy shit. that is. so fucked up#besides all that. the way the fandom and the show is mean to julian pisses me off#Why Are His Friends So Mean To Him#i have this brain thing where i take criticism of julian bashir as a personal attack. its called autism#sometimes an autistic-coded character in star trek will say something the narrative has deemed as Wrong#and i can tell thats what im being told because i understand media language but im still baffled like ''Whats The Problem''#spock. data. seven. julian. and its like... actually guys its everybody else who is being weird and mean about this#i do find it a little sad knowing that if i existed on DS9 that o'brien and kira wouldn't like me. like damn. i like you guys#anyways i have a lot of the DS9 fandom blocked because they got me at risk of developing a wee chunk of self loathing. and i refuse#i wasnt raised to feel shame how dare you

NEW WEEK, NEW RECS! START SENDING YOUR FAVORITE FANDOM CREATIONS FROM THIS WEEK IN FOR ME TO QUEUE UP FOR FRIDAY!
The goal of Fandom Friday: provide a place where people can shout-out their favorite creators from the week, whether it's a piece of fan art that made you smile or a fanfic that moved you. Drop a link to your favorite creations this week into my ask box along with what you loved about it, and I will give them a shout! It doesn't have to be Star Wars either! If it's on another website (AO3, Twitter, etc.), please be sure to state that as well.
This happens each week, so don't feel like you've got to get out everything in one week. Just keep track of them throughout the week or send me an ask whenever you find something, and I'll drop them all on Fridays (or throughout the weekend if I get a lot). You may submit for this week until THURSDAY MORNING. Anything received after that will roll to the next week. A summary of the weeks' recs will get added onto this post on Saturday, so check back here for all of the awesome fics and art! And be sure to go give the creations on that list some love (and don't just share the ask responses I put out).
This week's submissions will start posting on Friday, May 26.
Rules and additional details under the cut! PLEASE make sure you read the rules before sending something in. If your submission violates any of the rules, I will delete it.
Rules:
Please send submissions to my ask box (sending them all to one place makes wrangling them easier each week). In your ask, please include the creator's handle, a link to their work/post, and what you loved about it!
Please ensure the link is to the creator's original post and not your own reblog or repost of their work (if they're on another platform). The idea is to drive people to visit the creator's page!
The creation does not have to have been posted this week! It can be something older. Also, don't worry about whether or not a rec is a repeat from a prior week. Just looking to celebrate things that made an impression on you this week, whether you've seen it before or not!
NSFW is alright! Just make sure you note it in the ask so I can flag appropriately! Since I'm including 18+ material, minors may not participate. 18+ posts will be tagged with NSFT/lemon/lemony lemon (trying to cover all my bases).
NO incest, underage, cl*necest, master/padawan (or similar power dynamics), dub-con/non-con/rape. Also, no H*rry Potter. There are a few others that I also won't share due to my discomfort with them (i.e., R*xsoka), so if you're not sure, ask.
If your rec involves spoilers from a show that's currently running, please include that info in the ask so I can tag it appropriately (I will normally tag a few different ways, but I always use #<;show title> spoilers if you need to filter, for example: Andor spoilers will be tagged #Andor Spoilers). I will stop tagging spoilers two weeks after the show stops airing.
You can submit GIF sets or edits, but please ensure you are submitting from the blog that actually created them. Wanted to add that caution since there's been a lot of people stealing/reposting GIFs and edits in particular recently. So just be cautious.
Try to avoid commentary in your ask that might make others feel bad ("the only person who knows how to write XXX correctly..."). It's important to be able to appreciate creators without making others feel bad, so let's try to keep the commentary complimentary without being off-putting for other creators.
Self recommendations are allowed and encouraged! Shout out your own hard work! You deserve the recognition!
*Rules subject to change so PLEASE make sure you read them before sending something in. If your submission violates any of the rules, I will delete it.
**If you have any questions about any of the rules, don't hesitate to DM me!
In addition to sending me asks, I highly encourage you to go either leave a comment on and/or reblog someone’s work (tag me or use the #Fandom Friday tag if you do!). Let’s get the interaction back up on this website and show the creators that work so hard on their stuff some love!

Star Trek has really eaten my brain, I’ve always liked Star Trek but I’m taken aback at how much it’s taken hold of me since watching Picard season 3.
I thought Star Wars would take over after Ahsoka, but apparently, it was just a hiatus.
It’s effectively taken over Doctor Who, which I’m glad for. The fandoms are equally, if not more so, annoying but since Trek has many shows I can mostly float through the next.
Unlike Doctor Who where it was so concentrated in hating Thirteen and her era that the bad takes and bad faith were untenable. Doctor Who fandom literally took the joy off watching the show, and even editing gifsets.
The benefits to Trek being long running with multiple shows is that there’s a lot of different opinions around.
Anyway, I’m just glad I have two things to occupy my fandom brain: Star Trek and Critical Role both lore heavy and fun.

I hope you don’t mind me venting but the number of times I’ve seen Star Trek fans respond to someone pointing out racism by accusing them of being a Russian plant is wild 😭 white so-called “liberals” really have zero empathy
Of course we don't mind you venting! That's what we're here for!
That's the problem you know that even though nonblack people can be fans of star trek they think they don't have to do any work to be anti racist just because Star trek has always been diverse.
I generally don't like to accuse ppl of being russian plants but like the whole point of russian plants is to get us to give up on voting blue? like why would they care if there's racism in startrek as a media franchise or a fandom lol?

I know it's been lost in the many, many annoying years of ST writers deciding Vulcans are bad and contemptible for having what amounts to just really visible cultural differences from humanity, but I really like how... Culturally Vulcan Spock is.
His colleagues have like a fixation on his mother's heritage but... he grew up culturally Vulcan on Vulcan and his human mother all but states in Babel that she's basically assimilated into Vulcan culture because she agrees with its ethos. In all of TOS Spock considers himself Vulcan.
He's... very well adjusted and settled in so he is, he's a guy who sacked off the VSA to join a pseudo-military against the wishes of his pacifist dad and on the ship he plays Vulcan musical instruments with his human colleagues, and keeps a room full of Vulcan cultural artefacts that presumably remind him from home. (I get that this is half-retconned in the movies - most explicitly in ST V 🙄 - and also pretty inconsistently written in TOS but it's still there!)
Idk it's kind of sad to me that the Vulcans are literally the innovators of IDIC and they've been flanderized into these isolationist bigots because the stoicism/pacifist vibes can be kind of confused and off-putting to people.
Like. List of Vulcans we actually meet in TOS:
Spock
Spock's dad, ambassador to Earth, married to a human in some weird 60s sitcom couple dynamic, in-text reason he is estranged from his half human son is literally stated outright as being because he thinks Starfleet is too militaristic and he's a pacifist - like most Vulcans.
T'Pring - Spock's fiancée/wife, breaks up with him because it seems like too much of a hassle to be married to a celebrity, never seems to have any issue with his parentage, clearly thinks he's Vulcan since she divorces him via Vulcan ritual (logical, fight to the death) and not Human ritual (illogical, loopholes/contacting your local divorce lawyer)
Stonn - has two lines, neither of them are about Spock.
T'Pau - kind of maybe says something bigoted ("they say thy Vulcan blood is thin"), but then pulls strings to get the Enterprise off the hook for disobeying orders at the end of the episode, presumably as a favour to Spock, who she knows is going through a rough time, or out of respect for Not-Really-Dead Jim.
Surak - from a war torn civilisation five hundred years ago, still less bigoted towards other species than McCoy lmao
I might be so wrong about this but idk I just like Spock's room full of unabashed Vulcan shit, and I think ST has ignored and wasted opportunities for interesting stories bc they're kind of obsessed with deconstruction of everything about TOS/the ST universe to the detriment of anything else including the actual original ethos of Starfleet.

I think instead of creating La'an Noonien Singh, whose character messes up the TOS canon, the SNW writers should have expanded more on the characters of Phillip Boyce, Janice Rand, and J.M. Colt.

fuck the fandom i loved every season of st: picard and i have thoroughly enjoyed the writing they gave the series. it's not my fault that this fandom has called literally every iteration of trek past tos inferior bc you can't get over yourselves about what trek should be. picard is a good if flawed legacy show that honors what it displays and i will love it out of spite.

I’ve never watched Star Trek Discovery due to lack of interest, and I realize I’m late to this discussion, but I just don’t understand the logic of making Michael Burnham Spock’s foster sibling. Spock has an established backstory, as per the show and the movies. Why wasn’t Michael written as Uhura’s sister (or relative) instead?!
The fans know almost nothing about Uhura’s past, and I’m pretty sure even her first name was given to the fans by the actress rather than by the show! I read that Burnham was based at least somewhat on Uhura, so why not make Uhura her connection to TOS? Uhura was frickin amazing and, if they were going to write more about a character’s family, then she deserved a backstory! I think it’s a disservice that they linked this supposedly “revolutionary” new character to an already well-established character, but ignored the character, who less is known about, that they could have fleshed out!
Or would even that much originality have been too hard for them?

You couldn't pay me to sit though this. Now only is CinemaSins frequently either petty or outright in error about the "mistakes" they identify, but everything that was actually true about plot and characterization in The Original Series and Films has these days been replaced by what The Internet Heard Some Sarcastic Person Say Without Attribution.
Even "fans" do this, if they grew up with TNG or later, to prove their sub-tribe's "superior" taste.
And I'm so weary of it.
