It's so weird when people are like, "Ugh why is Aveline even here, she sucks??"

Aveline is here because on top of everything else, DA2 is a refugee metaphor. Kirkwall is a place actively hostile to Ferelden refugees, the Hawkes and Aveline have been through the hell of losing both their homes and families together. And like many refugees from the same place who traveled together irl, they are bound as tightly as blood and are now literally ride-or-die family even if they wouldn't normally have had anything in common to even make them friends back home. The Hawkes are the only family left that Aveline has, and it doesn't matter if Carver sucks or Hawke runs around with their collection of weird borderline-criminal bisexuals. They are her people and she is theirs. It would take a literal city-destroying cataclysm to even think of putting them at any sort of real odds.

Hope that clears up a very basic straightforward dynamic within the game!

ik i've said this before and probably will again bc i think it's important to put in words, but fr, if you have no female character you're interested in, or the only ones you care about are those you are personally attracted to, i very, very gently suggest thinking about that a little bit

because i promise not every female character is "poorly written," but we do live in a society with deeply rooted misogyny. we are all impacted by it. me too! it's smth i've had to work on

at the same time, i do know there are other reasons. before i realized i was a trans man, i couldn't really get into female characters - looking back, dysphoria was playing a big role in that. now that i'm comfortable with my gender, i've grown a lot more comfortable with loving women, both irl and in fiction, bc womanhood is no longer hurting me

but even with additional contexts like part of my aversion being dysphoria, it's still important to pick at these internalized processes. internalized sexism, internalized racism, internalized transphobia, ableism, fatphobia, etc

they're like invasive weeds. turn your back, and boom, they're all over. and yes, it's a pain to have to pull out each one you see, but it's important work, and their absence lets other things flourish

Useless Facts Masterlist

I've mentioned I've been working on it a few times, and here it is! One long Ellipsus document containing every single useless fact between January 30th and today.

The document can be viewed by anyone, including those who don't have an account on Ellipsus. Gods willing, you will even see the outline where each fact comes as its own entry (I've seen it break a few times).

I'm not promising I will update it every day, like I do on Tumblr, but I will add new posted facts regularly (maybe once a week).
