Grandpa Benji went into the forest one day and never came back, living his life as a tree int he forest.

Sam. I know he is not little but I love Sam Heap and he deserves to be appreciated (the moments between him and Sep are great)

Medieval world ? Yes totally. Is that a submarine and an elevator ? Yes. Don't worry about it. There is no implications here of this being a post-apocalyptic futuristic world. What are you talking about ?

And considering what Sep says to her after and the fact that he was a child soldier without a name until he was 10,it probably wasn't the first time for him

Sleuth, Simon's emotional support tennis ball. It's very busy considering Simon is Simon and would need a lot of emotional support. It is also doing its best and should stop being taken by little brats .

Marcia and her fashion choices (tm). Does she need the pointy purple python shoes ? Nooooo. We wouldn't have her without them though.

The illustrations. They are so good. I love them so much.

Borrowers would definitely be a part of the Septimus Heap Universe. Talking rats, syrens and time travel can exist but not tiny people who steal buttons? Unacceptable

Heaptober Day 2: Message Rat

Message Rats do not have wings. They don’t want them, either, because it’s much easier to do their jobs without them. That’s what carrier pigeons are for. That's what humans are for. 

Message Rats work in secret. They work in the shadows and the quiet, and they care about privacy. Flying out in the open is a great way to be spotted and followed, but an even better way to be brought down and unable to get back up. 

Stanley knows all to well the importance of being unseen. He has been a proper message rat and a secret message rat, and he has been the leader of them all for years and years. He has seen some things, and he has watched as the Message Pigeon service lost and lost and lost, both business and people. 

So when he trains his kids, and his honorary kids, he tells them this: 

Never hitch a ride on a boat without a destination

Never try to ride on a human’s back

Never try to ride on a dragon. It’s not fun

Do not, under any circumstances, leave the ground or the water. Message rat’s dont do air. It’s in the contract.

Frankly, I had made a mistake with the Beatles before they first came over here, and I've never forgotten it. I had heard about the Beatles, and when I heard that they were to come to this country I put in a call to their manager in London to make a deal for a product-licensing arrangement. Then I saw a picture of them. Frankly, their appearance revolted me. I personally couldn't see them. So I cancelled my call to London. That was a lesson that I will never forget.
