Here's a WIP of my vampire guy :D Still figuring out the colours, but I really like where this is goin' so far!! He's just so dang Cute.
For context: This fella I have affectionately named Vinny, he's 300 years old, USED to lean into his Vampire Aesthetic when he was younger (like on the right) but has since embraced being a nature lover and loves going on hikes and planting trees and being out in the sun- but the sun burns him!! So he layers up a lot to protect his skin. Works in a Firewatch tower during summers.

Hiii! I was wondering if I could request f!reader x the cod boys reaction to her taking a sick day after having an IUD placed, either platonic or an established relationship with one of them, up to you. I can only imagine mixed reactions, especially after learning what all goes into the procedure. This is totally self indulgent so I was hoping for it to be on the fluffier side, BUT no worries if you’re not interested!!
Thank you!!🤍💐
i love this🖤 thank you for requesting, kat! hope you enjoy!

john is worried.
“not like you to take a sick day, dove. you sure you’ll be alright ‘til i get back?”
tbh, he’s so pressed about it. he knew in advance what the procedure would look like - educated himself after the birth control discussion came up - but your body isn’t reacting the way either of you had hoped. it’s far worse.
scared the hell out of him when you called yesterday afternoon and asked that he pick you up. obstinate, headstrong thing that you are, you declined his offer to accompany you to the appointment in the first place. you were in no condition to drive.
the thought of leaving you now, even for morning pt with the team, sets his teeth on edge. you’re strong, he knows. you can handle yourself just fine. but what kind of man would he be to leave his girl when she feels this fucking awful? - spoiler alert: he’s not going anywhere.
with your reassurance (and telling him he’s being a bigger baby than you about it), he tucks you into your nest of pillows and blankets, leaves ibuprofen and a cup of water on your side table, and makes sure your heating pad is plugged in and within reach.
simon is supportive.
“i’ve seen you shot, stabbed, blown up, burnt, broken bones; you’re a tough bird, you can handle it.”
you’ve been through worse. you both know that. doesn’t mean that he isn’t sympathetic to the pain you’re feeling, though. he watches you like a hawk, monitoring every scrunch of your nose or pained grimace or you squeezing your eyes shut just a little too tight. you’ll take the meds he picked up for you like clockwork with the fresh cuppa he brings you every four hours. he’ll take the day off with you, let you squeeze his hand when a cramp or muscle spasm is particularly gnarly.
he’ll hold you while you nap, too - playing with your hair, keeping you centered on top of him with one bulky arm slung across your hips, wishing the whole time that he could trade bodies with you until the aches are gone.
johnny is pissed.
“an’ they donnae give ye fuckin’ anesthetic? och! tha’s fuckin’ cruel s’what tha’ is!”
this man is L I V I D. he didn’t know the details of iud placement until you made him watch a video, and he’s been going off the rails since. it infuriates him to no end that you’re expected to just tough it out with nothing more than basic fucking pain relievers. don’t even get him started on that medieval torture device you called a ‘tenaculum’ that they stabbed you with!
he’s planning a murder while he orders a delivery of supplies. angrily, his thumbs punch at his screen as he selects all the things he even thinks you might need to get through the week - even though you keep telling him you’re sure you’ll be fine tomorrow.
“not gonna stab my hen and get away with it.”
(when you ask what he’s muttering about over there, he tosses his phone aside, rolls you into his arms, kisses the top of your head, and tells you lunch is on the way.)
kyle is sympathetic.
“poor thing,” he murmurs, kissing your temple. “what can i do to help?”
like price, kyle took the liberty of doing his research.
cramps and muscle aches/spasms are common after placement, and some women will actually pass out in the minutes following the procedure. he texted a medic friend to get ahold of some muscle relaxers for you, picked up standard issue pain meds, bananas for potassium to combat the cramps, a second heating pad (one for each side), chocolates, tea, and a new plushy for you to squeeze on. your boyfriend was adamant that he take you to and from your appointment, even if you didn’t want him in the room while it was happening. every single base is covered in advance to mitigate the worst case scenario.
when you curl into the fetal position, gritting out an abrupt “all good”, he wraps himself around you like a shield.

hi i wanted to share that i got an IUD for the first time and my doctor was really really good about informed consent/communication in general—asked if there was specific anatomical language i preferred or was uncomfortable with (i’m trans); explicitly said that if it at any point something felt wrong or i changed my mind he would stop; talked me through what he’d be doing for the entire procedure before starting anything including what level of pain/discomfort i should expect at different stages; showed me the speculum so i could see the size and explained why he needed to use it; for that matter showed me everything he’d be using, down to the cotton swabs, and explained their purpose; and then during he was again talking me through what he was doing and where he was going to be touching me and everything. and i hadn’t like told him i was nervous or distrustful or anything, this was clearly just standard procedure! sharing partly bc i thought it might spark joy for you and also bc ive seen enough shitty doctor experience stories on your blog that i want people to know that they absolutely can and should hold doctors to high standards of care and communication bc it is absolutely possible to treat your patients with respect and make them feel safe and like they have autonomy!
this is an awesome experience! thank you so much for sharing, I really appreciate being able to platform stuff like this so people have a good point of comparison for how healthcare providers ought to treat them and know that there are better options out there :)

A year in illustration, 2023 edition (part one)
Tumblr media
(This is part one; part two is here.)
I am objectively very bad at visual art. I am bad at vision, period – I'm astigmatic, shortsighted, color blind, and often miss visual details others see. I can't even draw a stick-figure. To top things off, I have cataracts in both eyes and my book publishing/touring schedule is so intense that I keep having to reschedule the surgeries. But despite my vast visual deficits, I thoroughly enjoy making collages for this blog.
For many years now – decades – I've been illustrating my blog posts by mixing public domain and Creative Commons art with work that I can make a good fair use case for. As bad as art as I may be, all this practice has paid off. Call it unseemly, but I think I'm turning out some terrific illustrations – not all the time, but often enough.
Last year, I rounded up my best art of the year:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/12/25/a-year-in-illustration/
And I liked reflecting on the year's art so much, I decided I'd do it again. Be sure to scroll to the bottom for some downloadables – freely usable images that I painstakingly cut up with the lasso tool in The Gimp.
Tumblr media
The original AD&D hardcover cover art is seared into my psyche. For several years, there were few images I looked at so closely as these. When Hasbro pulled some world-beatingly sleazy stuff with the Open Gaming License, I knew just how to mod Dave Trampier's 'Eve Of Moloch' from the cover of the Players' Handbook. Thankfully, bigger nerds than me have identified all the fonts in the image, making the remix a doddle.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/12/beg-forgiveness-ask-permission/#whats-a-copyright-exception
Tumblr media
Even though I don't keep logs or collect any analytics, I can say with confidence that "Tiktok's Enshittification" was the most popular thing I published on Pluralistic this year. I mixed some public domain Brother's Grimm art, mixed with a classic caricature of Boss Tweed, and some very cheesy royalty-free/open access influencer graphics. One gingerbread cottage social media trap, coming up:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/#hey-guys
Tumblr media
To illustrate the idea of overcoming walking-the-plank fear (as a metaphor for writing when it feels like you suck) I mixed public domain stock of a plank, a high building and legs, along with a procedurally generated Matrix "code waterfall" and a vertiginous spiral ganked from a Heinz Bunse photo of a German office lobby.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/22/walking-the-plank/
Tumblr media
Finding a tasteful way to illustrate a story about Johnson & Johnson losing a court case after it spent a generation tricking women into dusting their vulvas with asbestos-tainted talcum was a challenge. The tulip (featured in many public domain images) was a natural starting point. I mixed it with Jesse Wagstaff's image of a Burning Man dust-storm and Mike Mozart's shelf-shot of a J&J talcum bottle.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/01/j-and-j-jk/#risible-gambit
Tumblr media
"Google's Chatbot Panic" is about Google's long history of being stampeded into doing stupid things because its competitors are doing them. Once it was Yahoo, now it's Bing. Tenniel's Tweedle Dee and Dum were a good starting point. I mixed in one of several Humpty Dumpty editorial cartoon images from 19th century political coverage that I painstakingly cut out with the lasso tool on a long plane-ride. This is one of my favorite Humpties, I just love the little 19th C businessmen trying to keep him from falling! I finished it off with HAL 9000's glowing red eye, my standard 'this is about AI' image, which I got from Cryteria's CC-licensed SVG.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/02/16/tweedledumber/#easily-spooked
Tumblr media
Though I started writing about Luddites in my January, 2022 Locus column, 2023 was the Year of the Luddite, thanks to Brian Merchant's outstanding Blood In the Machine:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/09/26/enochs-hammer/#thats-fronkonsteen
When it came time to illustrate "Gig Work Is the Opposite of Steampunk," I found a public domain weaver's loft, and put one of Cryteria's HAL9000 eyes in the window. Magpie Killjoy's Steampunk Magazine poster, 'Love the Machine, Hate the Factory,' completed the look.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/03/12/gig-work-is-the-opposite-of-steampunk/
Tumblr media
For the "small, non-profit school" that got used as an excuse to bail out Silicon Valley Bank, I brought back Humpty Dumpty, mixing him with a Hogwartsian castle, a brick wall texture, and an ornate, gilded frame. I love how this one came out. This Humpty was made for the SVB bailout.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/03/23/small-nonprofit-school/#north-country-school
Tumblr media
The RESTRICT Act would have federally banned Tiktok – a proposal that was both technically unworkable and unconstitutional. I found an early 20th century editorial cartoon depicting Uncle Sam behind a fortress wall that was keeping a downtrodden refugee family out of America. I got rid of most of the family, giving the dad a Tiktok logo head, and I put Cryteria's HAL9000 eyes over each cannonmouth. Three Boss Tweed moneybag-head caricatures, adorned with Big Tech logos, rounded it out.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/03/30/tik-tok-tow/#good-politics-for-electoral-victories
Tumblr media
When Flickr took decisive action to purge the copyleft trolls who'd been abusing its platform, I knew I wanted to illustrate this with Lucifer being cast out of heaven, and the very best one of those comes from John Milton, who is conveniently well in the public domain. The Flickr logo suggested a bicolored streaming-light-of-heaven motif that just made it.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/01/pixsynnussija/#pilkunnussija
Tumblr media
Old mainframe ads are a great source of stock for a "Computer Says No" image. And Congress being a public building, there are lots of federal (and hence public domain) images of its facade.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/04/cbo-says-no/#wealth-tax
Tumblr media
When I wrote about the Clarence Thomas/Harlan Crow bribery scandal, it was easy to find Mr. Kjetil Ree's great image of the Supreme Court building. Thomas being a federal judge, it was easy to find a government photo of his head, but it's impossible to find an image of him in robes at a decent resolution. Luckily, there are tons of other federal judges who've been photographed in their robes! Boss Tweed with the dollar-sign head was a great stand-in for Harlan Crow (no one knows what he looks like anyway). Gilding Thomas's robes was a simple matter of superimposing a gold texture and twiddling with the layers.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/06/clarence-thomas/#harlan-crow
Tumblr media
"Gig apps trap reverse centaurs in wage-stealing Skinner boxes" is one of my best titles. This is the post where I introduce the idea of "twiddling" as part of the theory of enshittification, and explain how it relates to "reverse centaurs" – people who assist machines, rather than the other way around. Finding a CC licensed modular synth was much harder than I thought, but I found Stephen Drake's image and stitched it into a mandala. Cutting out the horse's head for the reverse centaur was a lot of work (manes are a huuuuge pain in the ass), but I love how his head sits on the public domain high-viz-wearing warehouse worker's body I cut up (thanks, OSHA!). Seeing as this is an horrors-of-automation story, Cryteria's HAL9000 eyes make an appearance.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/12/algorithmic-wage-discrimination/#fishers-of-men
Tumblr media
Rockefeller's greatest contribution to our culture was inspiring many excellent unflattering caricatures. The IWW's many-fists-turning-into-one-fist image made it easy to have the collective might of workers toppling the original robber-baron.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/14/aiming-at-dollars/#not-men
Tumblr media
I link to this post explaining how to make good Mastodon threads at least once a week, so it's a good thing the graphic turned out so well. Close-cropping the threads from a public domain yarn tangle worked out great. Eugen Rochko's Mastodon logo was and is the only Affero-licensed image ever to appear on Pluralistic.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/04/16/how-to-make-the-least-worst-mastodon-threads/
Tumblr media
I spent hours on the sofa one night painstakingly cutting up and reassembling the cover art from a science fiction pulp. I have a folder full of color-corrected, high-rez scans from an 18th century anatomy textbook, and the cross-section head-and-brain is the best of the lot.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/04/analytical-democratic-theory/#epistocratic-delusions
Tumblr media
Those old French anatomical drawings are an endless source of delight to me. Take one cross-sectioned noggin, mix in an old PC mainboard, and a vector art illo of a virtuous cycle with some of Cryteria's HAL9000 eyes and you've got a great illustration of Google's brain-worms.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/14/googles-ai-hype-circle/
Tumblr media
Ireland's privacy regulator is but a plaything in Big Tech's hand, but it's goddamned hard to find an open-access Garda car. I manually dressed some public domain car art in Garda livery, painstakingly tracing it over the panels. The (public domain) baby's knit cap really hides the seams from replacing the baby's head with HAL9000's eye.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/05/15/finnegans-snooze/#dirty-old-town
Tumblr media
Naked-guy-in-a-barrel bankruptcy images feel like something you can find in an old Collier's or Punch, but I came up snake-eyes and ended up frankensteining a naked body into a barrel for the George Washington crest on the Washington State flag. It came out well, but harvesting the body parts from old muscle-beach photos left George with some really big guns. I tried five different pairs of suspenders here before just drawing in black polyhedrons with little grey dots for rivets.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/03/when-the-tide-goes-out/#passive-income
Tumblr media
Illustrating Amazon's dominance over the EU coulda been easy – just stick Amazon 'A's in place of the yellow stars that form a ring on the EU flag. So I decided to riff on Plutarch's Alexander, out of lands to conquer. Rama's statue legs were nice and high-rez. I had my choice of public domain ruin images, though it was harder thank expected to find a good Amazon box as a plinth for those broken-off legs.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/06/14/flywheel-shyster-and-flywheel/#unfulfilled-by-amazon
Tumblr media
God help me, I could not stop playing with this image of a demon-haunted IoT car. All those reflections! The knife sticking out of the steering wheel, the multiple Munsch 'Scream'ers, etc etc. The more I patchked with it, the better it got, though. This one's a banger.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/24/rent-to-pwn/#kitt-is-a-demon
Tumblr media
To depict a "data-driven dictatorship," I ganked elements of heavily beribboned Russian military dress uniforms, replacing the head with HAL9000's eye. I turned the foreground into the crowds from the Nuremberg rallies and filled the sky with Matrix code waterfall.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/26/dictators-dilemma/#garbage-in-garbage-out-garbage-back-in
Tumblr media
The best thing about analogizing DRM to demonic possession is the wealth of medieval artwork to choose from . This one comes from the 11th century 'Compendium rarissimum totius Artis Magicae sistematisatae per celeberrimos Artis hujus Magistros.' I mixed in the shiny red Tesla (working those reflections!), and a Tesla charger to make my point.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/28/edison-not-tesla/#demon-haunted-world
Tumblr media
Yet more dividends from those old French anatomical plates: a flayed skull, a detached jaw, a quack electronic gadget, a Wachowski code waterfall and some HAL 9000 eyes and you've got a truly unsettling image of machine-compelled speech.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/02/self-incrimination/#wei-bai-bai
Tumblr media
I had no idea this would work out so well, but daaaamn, crossfading between a Wachowski code waterfall and a motherboard behind a roiling thundercloud is dank af.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/03/there-is-no-cloud/#only-other-peoples-computers
Tumblr media
Of all the turkeys-voting-for-Christmas self-owns conservative culture warriors fall for, few can rival the "banning junk fees is woke" hustle. Slap a US-flag Punisher logo on and old-time card imprinter, add a GOP logo to a red credit-card blank, and then throw in a rustic barn countertop and you've got a junk-fee extracter fit for the Cracker Barrel.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/04/owning-the-libs/#swiper-no-swiping
Tumblr media
Putting the Verizon logo on the Hinderberg was an obvious gambit (even if I did have to mess with the flames a lot), but the cutout of Paul Marcarelli as the 'can you hear me now?' guy, desaturated and contrast-matched, made it sing.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/10/smartest-guys-in-the-room/#can-you-hear-me-now
Tumblr media
Note to self: Tux the Penguin is really easy to source in free/open formats! He looks great with HAL9000 eyes.
https://pluralistic.net/2023/08/18/openwashing/#you-keep-using-that-word-i-do-not-think-it-means-what-you-think-it-means
Tumblr media
Rockwell's self-portrait image is a classic; that made it a natural for a HAL9000-style remix about AI art. I put a bunch of time into chopping and remixing Rockwell's signature to give it that AI look, and added as many fingers as would fit on each hand.

EDIT EDIT: THIS POST IS EXTRA OUTDATED
EDIT: THIS POST IS OUTDATED
WAS ANYONE GONNA TELL ME THAT IN SLOVAKIA (where im from) THEY APPROVED A STANDARD FOR TRANSGENDER PEOPLE, ALLOWING YOU TO TRANSITION WITHOUT A CHIRURGICAL PROCEDURE (both gender affirming surgeries and sterilization was required before over here, in order for you to be allowed to transition and change your legal name and gender). LITTERALLY 2 DAYS AGO ON 3RD MARCH
Im losing my shit because like?? It's slovakia?? I did not expect actual changes and progress to be done in this direction in the nearest future?
And also i have not heard ANYONE talk about this, i litterally just accidently stumbled on a news blog about it?? I might have to do more research just to be sure of everything but if this is true then like holy shit hell yeah
Apparently, according to the standard, you will be able to change your legal name and legal gender after either 1 year on HRT, or if your doctor doesnt recommend you to go on HRT, you can just immidiatelly change all of that after discussing it with your doctor. You are also not required to have gone through gender-affirming operations (which you were required to have gone through before)

Welcome Post
Navigation | Ratings & Warnings | Welcome Post | Post Schedule | Find a Fic | Submit a Fic (tba)
Hi! This is the FMA Oldfic Preservation Blog, we're dedicated to digging up the old, beloved fanfics steadily dying to linkrot and lost accounts on places like livejournal, wattpad and quotev, to archive and display them here for the continued enjoyment of the public.
I understand the importence of always backing up these fics directly to the internet archive whenever possible to preserve the original integrity of the work, as well as its associated profiles and links. But due to complications regarding crawling mature content on sites such as livejournal, as well as the risk of certain fics and websites becoming unfindable on the wayback machine in the event the original link becomes lost, I sometimes have to work around this.
This blog exists both to allow the internet archive to crawl at-risk fics effectively, and to bring fics and fansites that have faded into the background, or even gone offline permenantly, back into the spotlight for a new audience to enjoy (or an old audience to rediscover).
All fics are welcome in the name of fandom history, regardless of ship, fic content or any associated fandom dramas therein, but I always try to tag appropriately, please feel free to comment if you feel additional content warnings or tags are necessary.
Requests are always accepted and encouraged!
How It Works (by website)
This blog is an index of archived fics across many old fan websites, with the goal of preventing those sites from being lost to obscurity (I didn't know about half of these when I joined the fandom) along with archiving and indexing oldfics on sites that are still active, like ao3.
The below format allows me to archive and index any fic on the websites listed while skirting tumblr's mature content policy. It also allows me breathing room, the ability to post more fics with less stress, and avoids outright reposting fics whenever possible.
Website's being indexed from, and how each work:
Standard procedure - Fic page(s) are saved to the wayback machine, then the archived link - along with the original, if the site is still up - is posted with the original summary and tags, along with additional tags and content warnings added by myself to aid in navigation. This means you can still read fics on currently active websites even if they shut down, or are currently under maintenence.
Special procedure - For websites the Wayback Machine is unable to crawl, fics will be reposted here in a private post so they can be archived. The private post is deleted and the archived link is used to make a normal post for the fic. This avoids tumblr flagging by keeping as little smut directly on the blog as possible. fanfiction.net - Standard archiveofourown - Standard, also hosts my open oldfic collection, which serves a similar purpose to this blog, collecting external bookmarks as well as fics on ao3. The collection will never be closed and anyone can contribute. deviantart - Standard mediaminer - Standard txq.nu/jumpyboys - website has shut down and archived fics are the only available - Standard yaoi.toukakoukan - website has shut down and archived fics are the only available - Standard archive.skyehawke.com - website has shut down and archived fics are the only available - Standard adultfanfiction.net (2003-2013) - adult-fanfiction.org (2013-) - Standard scimitarsmile - suggested by zetalial - website has shut down and archived fics are the only available - Standard
wattpad - Website has blocked url from wayback machine - Special
quotev - Case by case, Wayback Machine occasionally seems to struggle to archive or load Quotev directly. livejournal - For fics without a mature label, Standard. Fics with a mature label are blocked from the Wayback Machine due to the content notice, Special.
Early posts which do not meet the format listed will retrofitted in the near future, and this notice removed. 12/24/24

Hi! What happens if the kabumisus tie? Do they transcend gender and move on together?
My standard procedure for perfect ties is that I declare my own vote null and void, and the candidate I didn't vote for wins the poll. Of course, since I only do this with perfect ties, it has only happened once so far.
Edit: I went and looked it up, and it turns out I was wrong about the number. Polls have hit a perfect tie a total of five times in the history of this blog.

JJK Characters and Their Piercings/Tattoos
SFW✅ CONTENT!! 18+ blogs please dni ^^ TW: Mentions of needles, some spoilers, not proofread lol
Tumblr media
SATORU GOJO
•Standard ear piercing but usually nothing extravagant
•Unironically has the cross dangly because he thought it would be funny but never wears it
•Mostly diamond studs or silver
•100% GOT A NOSE STUD IN HIGH SCHOOL
•He thought it would attract more attention from the ladies (as if he needed anymore) and of course it worked
•Also has his belly button pierced and I stand firm on that belief
•Likes to flaunt it on the beach and often keeps his shirts unbuttoned in unprofessional gatherings
•Often matches the nose stud and belly button ring and has drawers full of them
• Has a tattoo on his hip of a black beta fish (yeah🥲)
•Speaking of which, he has a small one on the back of his neck of a crescent moon
•He got matching ones with Geto right before *the incident* in high school to celebrate Suguru’s 18th, Geto has the sun
•Covers it with foundation all the time when he’s in public
•Has a tattoo on his upper arm of a doodle Megumi drew when he was little
•It was the first thing Megumi ever drew and showed him (It was literally just him and Tsumiki as stick figures) and he cried
•Has a pretty high pain tolerance so he mostly did well with the process, but the hip tattoo hurt like hell for him and they basically had to pin him to the table to keep him still
•Made Shoko come to his appointments for moral support
CHOSO
•Standard ear piercings
•Usually just sticks to silver or black studs because he’s afraid of being judged :< •With a little push he might wear small hoops occasionally
• Vertical labret piercing (middle of lip) only wears hoops
•Does not do well with needles (shockingly), so he cried the first time he got body mods done
•Got his ears pierced at Claire’s and held the teddy bear
•Has only one tattoo along his left forearm with the names of his brothers written out in kanji (including Yuji)
•Also cried during the tattooing process
•He’s just a pretty princess he can’t help it😞
•Has a rotation of like 5 different pairs of earrings and lip rings because he likes to keep things simple
•Really wants to get an eyebrow piercing but chickens out every time
SUGURU GETO
•Gauges (duh)
•Started stretching his ears in early high school after he got tired of normal earrings
•Used to sit in agony in class whenever it was time to move up the taper size
•Got his septum pierced but decided he didn’t like it a few months later
•After high school (betraying everyone lol), he started by getting industrials
•Tongue piercing came next, has all kinds of fun tongue rings for funsies
•Tongue was super puffy after getting it done, Mimiko and Nanako had to speak for him for a couple weeks while he expressed his throughs through grunts of frustration
•Has the universally headcannoned back tattoo of a dragon
•Has the sun tattoo on his nape to match Gojo’s moon
•Covers it with his hair obvi but sometimes looks at it in the mirror when he’s feeling lonely
•Left arm is a complete sleeve filled with various details such as red spider lilies, various geometric patterns, and names of his loved ones hidden throughout
•Simplistic patterns running up his fingers on both hands
•Did not budge during any of the procedures, however the intensity of many of his healing processes usually rendered him unable to do certain things, so he often required assistance afterwards, even while swearing up and down he didn’t (he almost fell down the stairs)
TOJI FUSHIGURO
•Definitely has the standard earlobe
•Used to have a nose stud but stopped wearing it
•Again nothing flashy but his wife and Tsumiki bought him hello kitty earrings and he will wear them proudly
•Has a simple tattoo down his neck of his wedding date in Roman numerals to Megumi’s momma (or you😘)
•Got it there because he tends to rub his neck when he’s stressed, so running his hands over the ink reminds him of his life’s blessings
•Also has Megumi’s and Tsumiki’s names behind both of his ears (screw canon can’t change my mind fr)
•Has one (1) on the knuckle of his wedding ring finger of a heart his wife drew
•Hides it under the ring because it embarrasses him to show other people but loves to look at it when he’s alone
•Pretends to be completely fine during his procedures but is gripping his wife’s hand for dear life and biting his lip until it bleeds
•She def laughs at him for it
•Hates needles with a passion and always dreads getting new ink done but it’s always worth it in the end
RYOMEN SUKUNA
•Canon tattoos lol
•Also canon that he has his ears pieced, but he definitely got everything possible done on both ears
•Has a ton of different earrings and chains that make his appearance more regal and scary
•Has his tongue split 100% •Had a super puffy face after that procedure, and Uraume had to had to hold back laughter while assisting him through his normal daily affairs
•Nobody could take him seriously for weeks
•But when it healed he was scary as all hell
•Bridge piercing 1000%
•Didn’t really react to his procedures, however if you look closely you might see him barely squint his eyes when the needle goes through
•Got permanent bracelets because he thought they looked cool
•Small gauges
•Doesn’t let anyone touch his tattoos or piercings unless he’s being bathed or with someone he loves (you pookie🥰)
•Partly because it’s lowk sensitive for him and he doesn’t like the feeling
•Forgets to take out his earrings when he sleeps and wakes up with weird marks all over the sides of his head
•Constantly losing earring backs
•Also drops earrings all the time because his hands are huge and steps on them with the needle side up
•Poor Sukuna
My first time posting detailed hcs! Hope you like it ^^

In Super Mario Odyssey, Talkatoo has two head models. While almost all of his expressions are made simply by moving control points on his regular head model (a procedure standard for the majority of 3D character models in video games), the expression he makes when he opens his mouth particularly wide was evidently considered too different from the regular head, so that an additional taller head model was created specifically for it.
This is how the base model appears. At all times during gameplay, only one of the heads is displayed and the other one is made invisible.

proceduralism
continuing to read about TTRPGs (today has been a TTRPG blog reading sort of day)
if you read my RPG posts - well first, thanks!! I'm glad someone does x3 - but also you might notice that my reference pool of games is... kinda old, innit. story games like Apocalypse World, Burning Wheel, Microscope, Fiasco etc. on the one hand, the OSR milieu on the other, Chuubo's and other Jennagames on the third hand, D&D on the fourth - these games are all at least a decade old, they've spawned countless successors, etc. etc. I'm not with the times!!
partly that's because a lot of the more recent games I've looked at have seemed pretty derivative of paradigms that were established during the 2010s. there's a lot of PbtAs. a lot of lasers and feelings hacks. and often the first game made the most definitive statement. I have yet to find a PbtA game that reads half so strikingly as Apocalypse World itself.
when you've read enough RPG books it's easy enough to be like 'ok this is a dice pool game with some PbtA-style inter-player character creation dynamics' and just focus on some more nebulous question of like, whether the prose and prompts given are evocative at all, or if they have some cool new specific subsystem. there is a danger there of being too dismissive - maybe these familiar components bring out something new in synergy. I look at thirsty sword lesbians and wonder what the point of it is (I don't need a book to make my character a lesbian, and it seems a bit corny to make a book that's just telling you how gay you are over an otherwise standard fantasy scenario), but I ask someone who's actually played it and she explains it's essentially a vessel for IRL flirting. it didn't occur to me that a game could be that! suddenly it makes sense.
but like, I want to know what the next big paradigms are, now that the previous movements are kinda-sorta dead.
so what's the hot new thing? the next major paradigm?
one answer seems to be something called 'proceduralism'. i was vaguely aware of this trend from games like Blades in the Dark (also now quite old, published 2017) with a clear session structure - you use these rules in downtime and these rules while on the job, essentially making the 'loop' of the game more explicit. but I didn't have a name for it. now I do!
Prismatic Wasteland (I can't find any other name for this author, so I'll use the name of the blog) defines the difference between 'procedure' and 'rule' based on whether they 'provide the order of operation for a game and structure play', with most of them being loops. the D&D combat turn is a procedure. in Blades in the Dark, the whole session is a procedure. this provides a framework for other rules, like actions you can take, to fit into.
since I'm a programmer, I would describe this as essentially the state machine of the game.
you can cast the basic 'loop' of certain types of trad RPG (particularly, OSR games) as an implicit procedure - the post there goes into some detail about the parallels and differences between this and the more trad end of story games like AW.
as an example of a proceduralism-oriented design from the same author, we've got this frame for 'social combat', to provide a context and direction for roleplaying with a bit of dice rolling to make the outcome determined by dice rather than the GM's whim.
the prompt-writing duel system I wrote back in 2021 is in retrospect a "procedural" design for a specific scenario that might come up in a game. the game I was responding to, The King is Dead by the usual suspects (vincent and meguey baker), is essentially a collection of such scenario-specific minigames - they don't loop for the most part, but they still fit Prismatic's definition.
anyway, I'm not sure that's a new paradigm per se - a whole lot of what the story games were doing was playing around with procedures for things like scene framing and so forth. but, as with all things, having something to focus on inspires creativity.
(all RPG design is in a sense iterative - we're taking small hops around the space of all possible RPGs into unexplored corners, looking for what vibes. we might keep the setting and role of characters but change some of the procedures for how they act. or we might use a familiar framework on an unfamiliar scenario. whenever designers' and players' focus moves to messing with something new, particularly something I hadn't even realised we were taking for granted, I think it's interesting. this is an art form of constant evolution and reinvention - never let it settle!)
edit to add: another, more detailed explication of 'proceduralism'
