keep thinking about all the (metaphorical) headaches quiet riot gave shay after it first developed…

it’s ability operates thru physical touch, so more often than not for the first while until she got the hang of it, it’d just go ahead and mute anything she touched, much to her annoyance.

living in a motel room was hard enough as it was, and having a stand that muted the microwave so she couldn’t hear it beeping just made things worse. she already had a hard enough time remembering to actually grab the contents… not knowing when it’d beeped was even worse! she had many evenings where she found herself realizing like fifteen minutes later, wondering to herself, “did i even start that…?”

it’d mute the tv anytime she tried to watch anything, the radio, even her friends if she hugged them, it’d mute anything she touched.

there were also have times where she’d be starting her bike, affectionately named saxon, where her stand would mute it too, ruining her favorite part—hearing the engine roar to life. one such instance led to her sitting on a completely silent motorcycle, tears streaming down her face as she continuously started and turned off her bike, screaming “stop it! stop it!” to herself, certainly an unusual sight to any passersby.

I think I have a very skewed perception of how emotional vulnerability works to the point it's kind of a disadvantage to me when I write or read a story. Because every time a character is like: "you can talk to me about your trauma..." and the other character actually opens up and spills their gut, I just. Don't believe it. I'm just sitting there like: "pshhhh, what happened to show don't tell?" Because if I were in that situation I would be dragging out Not talking About What's Bothering Me for at LEAST 3 months, and even then when I actually DO start talking about it you would have to strap me down and start pulling out my teeth before you even get a smidgeon of useful information that isn't: "idk man, it just kinda sucked. I don't really wanna talk about it"

So how human are the protoframes still? How much of all that is actual armor and what is a result from the infection-strain.

We know Eleanor is the most far "advanced" in the infection, with the changed tongue rendering her mute. But outside of her mind and her tongue her armor doesn't look like it's part of her as much as just armor she wears.

Lettie is the easiest immediate example of the more armor-like skin, her armor is literally fused into her skin around her knees, with the rest being her original skin. Is her upper body also the same? Or is that normal armor she could take off?

With the others im having a harder time possibly discerning what could and couldn't be just part of them vs armor.

I have many questions that I would like answers to. Or im gonna be up all night looking at zoomed in pictures of the Hex and come up with my own theories.
