St. Albert Place Part 2 - its sculptural symmetry mimics the curves of the Sturgeon River that runs behind it. There are no corners; only curves. Built in 1984, St. Albert Place was designed as a "people place", housing a unique combination of civic government and cultural activity. It is an amazingly beautiful building located in the city I grew up in. It was designed by world-renowned Canadian architect Douglas Cardinal. The building showcases many of Cardinals signature architectural details. Douglas Joseph Cardinal, OC [Order of Canada] He is a Canadian architect based in Ottawa, Canada. Famous for flowing architecture marked with smooth lines and influenced by his Aboriginal heritage as well as European Expressionist architecture, Cardinal is perhaps best known for his designs of the Canadian Museum of History in Gatineau, Quebec (1989) and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C. (1998). He also designed the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv) in Regina, Saskatchewan. St. Albert Place, 5 St. Anne Street, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada. Since officially opening its doors on December 2, 1983, the Arden Theatre has played host to some of the world's most renowned artists like Celine Dion & Jann Arden — to name a few — as well as local musicians, dance schools, theatre troupes and school productions from the local community. Currently, like all Entertainment Venues, the Arden Theatre was greatly affected by the current health crisis. According to a Global News article: “As concern about the spread of COVID-19 continues to see events across Alberta get cancelled, the City of St. Albert announced back on May 12, 2020 that it is cancelling all shows and events at the Arden Theatre until December 31, 2020. “• Shown here are the exteriors of the Arden Theatre designed by acclaimed architect Douglas Cardinal.
