a parallel we haven’t talked about, Nick and his dad don’t show affection bc his dad is never around and just isn’t an affectionate person in general.

in s1e1, after Nick rescues Charlie from Ben, he claps his hand on his shoulder to comfort him. in s2e7, when Stepháne is leaving, he claps Nick on the shoulder after a half-attempt at a heart-to-heart.

Nick had to teach himself to become affectionate and to properly show love to his friends/family, which we see as he hugs everyone he cares about, and it started with Charlie.
