Shang qinghua is someone I love (if you canât already tell), but he needs to die.
I need a fanfic where Sqh dies in the most horrific brutal way known to man. Even better if itâs in a way that makes people feel bad, like he, idk, got clawed to peices by a verendre-wolf (but an actual thing) because one of the other peaklords wanted to have its fur, but was stupid enough to not do the research before hand, and know that that specific beast has no merchants selling its fur. And that thereâs a reason for that.
Because the beast is extremely hard to kill. Thereâs almost 0 show of the beast ever BEIBG defeated before in the past.
Does Sqh know that? Of course he does. Does he also know that heâs going to get teared into at the next meeting by whatever rich spoiled peak lord told him to get it? You betchya.
Normally, he would have taken Liu qingge, but he was already out with sqq on a hunt. So, being the author, and the only one to know the beasts weakness, decides âfuck it. I can at least try to kill itâ (even better if heâs drunk). And he goes. And almost kills it. Just to get his body ripped to shreds.
The news hits the sect hard. The peak lords donât know what to do. This shidi of theirs, who was always quivering and anxious, who, despite being among them for years, they never knew anything about, was dead. Itâs really bad. Liu qingge feels bad, because, like, even if he never liked or understood (tried to understand) the mousy man, he should have atleast been there, right?
Yue qingyuan would feel really bad. He, as sect leader, should have been looking after his shidis and shimeis, but he never bothered with shang Qinghua. He would be lying if he said he had anything of a comrady with thwt man. Shang qinghua was just so nervous, so quiet, that he never really stood out. Yue qingyuan immediately blames himself, and even reprimands himself. -what is that was xiao-jiu-
Sqq is the worst (sy). It takes him a while to even realise. It only occurs to him once, while eating melon seeds and thinking if giving it to sqh, that he remembers- he canât. Sqh, the only thing that was a way to his previous life, the one person who he could talk too, the only other transmigrator, who understood him and his emotions too a deeper level then anyone else.. was gone. And was never coming back. Sqq, blames Sqh for being stupid enough to get himself killed at first, but soon that turns into âif only I was thereâ or âit only I helpedâ- just âif onlyââs all about. Because despite it all, sqq did care about that stupid airplane. Of course he did. How could he not?
Mobei jun takes it the worst. After finding out the news, he destroys most of the palace, before locking himself into his room (id imagine this would be before luo binghe falls into the abyss. Letâs say sqq and sqh knew about each other earlier). This human was crafty yet always nervous. He was quiet but smart and constantly proved he had infinite potential and knowledge. And. To be honest. He.. was important to mobei.
Luo binghe knows that his Shishu died. He didnât particularly know this shishu well, however he did know that sqh was important to his shizun. That has to mean he was a good person. Lbh often asks himself if shizun would be as sad when he died. He knows itâs bad. That he completely just irrelevates this shishu of his.. but he barely knew the man. (Sqq freezes up around lbh all the time. Why does he look and act like sqh so much? Why?)
Sqh, on the other hand, wonders why heâs alive again, but instead of as sqh, heâs in his old straight and red haired body, and yet, still in his book. The system simply says âuser 001 had died. Due yk the amount of points he has accumulated and his repeated use of the system, he has been given a second chance without a story line! User has unlocked âthe writing of godâ storyline! Well done!â And it disappears.
Edit: part 2 :)

||SQH dies one WIP oneshot đ„||
1: He doesnât remember//But the people around him do
He chokes, scarlet red splattering all over his hands and clothes, unable to hear anything beyond the ringing in his ears. His vision blurred in and out of focus, try as he might to shake away the dizzy feeling buzzing around his skull. Distantly, he hears himself laughing slightly, turning his bro, âCâCooler than the noodles, râright bro?â
A scowl pierced through his ears, though irritating the pounding in his head, it sounded fearful and full of despair. Strange.
âIs he hallucinating!?â Another panicked voice echoed from above him. WoahâŠ. Above? When had he fallen over?
His vision focused for a moment and a light green filled his vision, though it was tainted by red. Cucumberâbro unfortunately understood what he was talking about.
âAirplane, pleaseâ stay awakeâ!â
Unfortunately, he wasnât ever that good at listening to instructions, the system did have to punish him a lot after all.
â
âIâm Luo Meihua!â He nervously stuck his hand out to the tall icy figure, his sleeves hopefully covering the scars he gained from getting electrocuted. He really tried not to stare but it was really hard not to, the manâs looked like his protagonist and the icy guy really reminded him of his ideal man. Ah but⊠he did scrap the backstory of MobeiâJun which was unfortunateâŠ
The other guy in red seemed shocked to see him, which, was a little odd, but, hey, some people had similar faces..?
The icy blue shirt dude just intensely stared at him. It really made him want to cry and and beg for mercy. Please stop staring sir????
âŠ
âŠ
âŠ
AHHH SCREW IT. Heâs leaving!!!
If these two wonât stop staring he is just going to get away, they probably think heâs crazy or ugly or something!
ââŠYouâŠâ The blue man muttered, there was really something in his eye that made his stomach churn. âStudy here?â
He shivered a little at that deep voiceâdefinitely didnât squeak when he replied and he definitely ignored the red man tryingâand failingâto hide his snort.
âUhâ! Yes! Sir!â Shang (he really needed to stop roleplayingâ) Luo Meihua cringed at the voice cracking
Red guy seemed to hold pity on him and elbowed the icy guy before introducing himself, âIâm Luo Binghe, what a coincidence right?â He smiled, baring his teeth which was very terrifying (he was really just trying to be friendly actuallyâŠ)(He didnât hate his Shangâshishu that much)(itâs just that, SQH is the epitome of misunderstanding every signal)
GUH! thatâs an awful coincidence⊠he prayed to whatever there is above the skies that this guy will never EVER ever read his novel, the trashy Proud Immortal Demon Way that technically caused his coma/ temporary deathâ!
The tension really got to him and he runs away before hearing the icy guyâs name and not noticing the green guy approaching and in turn, resulted into them crashing to each other.
âShitâ! Sorry bro!â He fumbled, trying to pull up the other man with his weak arms and run to his class at the same time. He bowed again.
âAirplane?â The green guy muttered in surprise.
Meihua froze and stuttered out, âNope! Airplane? Thereâs no airplane flying here! What airplane? Ahâ I meanâ!â
Bro flees again, not noticing the mournful look on the green guyâs face
â
âHe doesnât remember.â
âMnâŠâ
2: he does remember and they all live a happy ever after
Summary: SQH diees and everyone else whoâs ageless does not, some ascended, some stayed around to see modern society, Shen Jiu reincarnates and YQY chooses to ascend and reincarnate too, so 79 is happy in modern society
SQQ/LBH and MBJ lived longer than everyone else, MBJ just desperately wanting to see SQH again, but not knowing if he will reincarnate or not, and heâd rather remember his husband than choosing to forget his memory at all

Every so often I drift back to the overlord anime but I can never stay for long because it's a good 70% smut with the succubus and 20% side character drama that never goes anywhere. It's a similar premise to svsss, in that a modern guy accidentally gets sucked into a fictional fantasy world he was obsessed with as the villain with a group of people and a place he rules over and wants to protect, and his paranoia/procrastination combo strategises his way to victory.
So of course I thought, 'let's get our dear old scum villain (affectionate) in here'.
Cuz i'mma be real sy would make an infinitely more interesting panicking lich king. Take off that emotion nullification, for starters.
A) pidw was a vr mmorpg with a vast, overarching storyline of the rising emperor lbh, whom players could battle or wed for rewards. A respawning final boss of such strength it took a world wide unified invasion of top players to fell. When sy gets pulled into pidw and all the npcs come to life, so too does lbh, who is very confused as to what happened but remembers sy as one of the players who fronted the invasion (having dug up every nugget of lore on lbh and using that vast knowledge in strategy) and carries an immense grudge that eventually turns into love as he gets to know sy. Sqh is there too, of course, the uncredited game dev who made lbh and his right hand man mbj, who's own base in the north got retaken when mbj also resurrected and is having his own worrisome love story.
B) sy and sqh are in the same guild, named cq, and the demons are sqhs overly detailed npc. Lbh works as the guardian overseer, aka the head npc, and as they wait for the game to shut down sy sneakily makes a joke in lbhs character sheet about him loving sy. They get sucked in, the characters come to life, and sy spends the time he isn't using panicking about the situation, five dimensional politicking, or protecting the base being in denial about the whole lbh thing (and his no homo) and feeling DEEPLY guilty (and hiding it from sqh). Lbh, of course, now having free will, thinks about it a bit and decides to fall madly in love with his kind, gentle, soft hearted lich king boss in spite of his loyalty to his creator. Sqh goes 'dude, wtf' and so goes a very long back and forth as sy tries and fails to come up with the right code of ethics to deal with this insane situation he inadvertently created, meanwhile lbh is strategising how one could feasibly get railed by a skeleton and being the Best Housewife Right Hand Man Ever. And get headpats in the process.
C) sy was part of the xianxia themed cq guild, and everyone (the peak lords) got sucked into either ygddrassil (overlord world) or pidw (svsss). Basically, all the peak lords are millennials old friends running around trying to deal with the consequences of their role play and finally getting to try out the fancy food and drink. I love this one because everyone would be really comfortable with each other, lots of slang and in jokes, a well oiled team stuck in a crazy situation together with ridiculously powerful characters each and every one, and you could have sj as a member! Sy could be the beast tamer peak lord. It'd be so interesting to see what they'd class and subclass as. Sy might still be a lich, but Yqy would be a really interesting choice! Him and sj would definitely still have history though... Hulijing, wood elf, bamboo spirit, human, who knows!
D) sy spent a few years as the lich king guild leader in ygddrassil (I'm definitely not spelling it right), bored by the lack of anything interesting, before the system intervened (maybe as a remnant of the original game interface?) and whisked him off to svsss. Post canon he gets either revealed as an imposter or there's some past life wife plot (some animal that was a boobacious beauty in its past life getting cursed to switch between them?) that turns sy into his old big bad lich overlord form, which is hilariously incongruent with his personality but utterly terrifying and anathema to the jianghu, but lbh is now having to crane his neck back and desperately trying to figure out how to get dommed. Everyone is fully convinced this is sy's og body, and not some modern human one they don't even get to see.
E) sy gets yoinked by system and when lbh (and maybe some others?) catch up a few years later he's in the skeleton body in ygddrassil dabbling in world domination and very eager to see them. The npcs get introduced and draw many incorrect conclusions.

Inspired by your Jiuplane fic, Everyone loves SQH series and Nighthaunting's work.
Shen Jiu has never actually spared much attention to An Ding. While he doesn't consider them less-his past would never allow himself to look at anyone being derided for doing 'servant duties' less- he also doesn't pay much attention to them. Ever since Shang Qinghua modified the teleportation talismans for transporting large amounts of goods between the Peaks, An Ding disciples have all but disappeared from view. Shen Qingqiu occasionally saw a groundskeeper or a cook return back to An Ding but that was about it. He was pretty sure that people outside the sect saw more of the Logistics Peak than the people in it. And during meetings Shang Qinghua barely makes a sound, just records whatever was he was supposed to and just vanish off to his peak the minute the meeting inevitably ended in chaos. It was like An Ding never existed.......in hindsight, that should have been suspicious. But Shen Qingqiu never even noticed glaring absence and he would forever berate himself for that. It happened quite unexpectedly. Shen Qingqiu was supposed to go on mission with Qi Qingqi, the only Peak Lord he could tolerate beyond a certain period of time but Xuan Shu Peak suddenly had an emergency that she had to take care. Mu Qingfang was busy with preparing the Baying Moon Jade Orchid that he had been given (Really that should've tipped him off! Those flowers were ludicrously expensive because they only grow in the Demon Realm and Mu Qingfang had been given an entire crate of them along with his monthly supplies!), and the only other Peak Lords available were Liu Qingqe and Shang Qinghua. The choice was obvious.
The mission was relatively simple. Wan Jian disciples had been sent as a response to a request for assistance from a cluster of villages deep in a mountain valley. The disciples had found evidence of a large monster but it seemed to be intelligent and the presence of cultivators had run it off to a cave system. By the trails it left and it's actions, the lead disciple had judged it too dangerous for normal disciples, especially in the enclosed spaces of a cave system and had reported to his Peak Lord. The mission thus had been entered into the Peak Lords' roster. It should have been routine, should have been simple. But Shen Qingqiu had the world's worst luck and so everything turned sideways within ten minutes of them entering the cave.
First of all, the monster seemed to have destabilized the cave so they got caved in. Secondly, it wasn't a monster at all but a demonic beast, a Thousand Screams of Ruin Swan, a rabid thing that was created when someone forcibly corrupted a Thousand Screams Swan with too much demonic qi. And finally, the beasts absolutely hated each other. A Thousand Screams Swan had the ability to gauge the truth and a lie in its presence would not only prompt the most ear piercing of all screeches but also destabilizes the qi of the liar in particular and produce unimaginable pain. The southern demon courts use the swan in interrogations, putting the accused and the swan in enclosed spaces and the interrogators questioning from behind a sound muffling seal. However if the swan were overloaded with too much malicious qi, it would grow to enormous sizes and it's screech would actually cause death to anyone in the vicinity. In this state it was called a Thousand Screams of Ruin Swan. So after every interrogation the beast is taken for purification. The question is how a pair of valuable demonic beasts from the Southern Demon courts end up in a remote village far away from the borderlands?
If it was any other situation, Shen Qingqiu would've been fascinated. But as it was he had no time to dawdle. The confined space of the caves meant that the screeches of the swan would be magnified in intensity and their muffling shields were already cracking under the pressure of the sound waves. If they did, they would be dead as their qi system would be destabilized enough to cause a painful death. Shen Qingqiu, with his already unstable qi was extremely vulnerable in this situation. With Shang Qinghua having no combat ability to think of, they were completely under the mercy of two rabid S-rank demonic beasts who hated them and each other.
Then the shields cracked. Shen Qingqiu barely had time to close off his hearing using qi before Shang Qinghua disappeared into one of the caves with a beast after him. On one hand Shen Qingqiu now had to worry about only one Thousand Scream of Ruin Swan. On the other hand, no hearing was a double edged sword in a situation like this and there was no back up, negligible as it would have been. But he marshalled his focus and unsheathed Xiu Ya. If that overgrown bird thought that the Qing Jing Peak Lord was going down without a fight, it was wrong.
Two hours later the fight was still going on. His head was hurting only from being flung into the stone walls of the cave but also from sealing off his hearing for so long. The Beast's rampage had destroyed one of the cave walls and they had both fallen into a lake within the cave system. Shen Qingqiu had somehow managed to pull himself out of the water, not being stupid enough to fight a water fowl in water. He was exhausted, looked like a wet rag and was bleeding. There was no sign of Shang Qinghua and that either meant he was dead or that Shen Qingqiu was so far off from the main caves that he wouldn't be found in time. While the former was more likely, he at least hoped that Shang Qinghua made it to the surface and called for help because as much as he hated to admit it, that brute Liu Qingqe and his brutish sword would be helpful at the moment. He was tiring and his core couldn't hold on any longer while the beast was all but brimming in energy. It lunged and the Peak Lord futilely brought up his sword, knowing it wouldn't do anything, realizing that this was the end of Shen Jiu, dead by a rabid bird in a fucking cave. And then...there was light.
Lightning, there was lightning in the cave, huge arcs of it racing towards the beast and striking it over and over, the lake water acting as a conductor and exacerbating the damage. And on a ledge, was a creature wearing Shang Qinghua. Because that couldn't be Shang Qinghua. Shang Qinghua was a mousy, nervous, skittish mess of a man. Non obtrusive, and a pushover. He was weak and had no combat abilities to speak of. He barely had a core....except that wasn't true was it? None of them had ever seen Shang Qinghua fight. None of them had ever felt the power of his core. Shang Qinghua always ran solo and the occasional company of his head disciple so none of them had been on a mission with him. In fact, none of them knew anything about Shang Qinghua. They just assumed that he was weak...because he was An Ding and acted like a coward. But now it was clear Shen Qingqiu that it was by design. It should have impossible to constantly keep up a facade like that but looking at the imperious creature watching on dispassionately at the Demonic Beast writhing in his lightning, Shen Qingqiu knew that the impossible had been done.
The creature that was Shang Qinghua jumped down from the ledge and made his way to Shen Qingqiu. He was clutching a Thousand Screams Swan now back to its original size. He was barefoot. His clothing was ripped in places. A large slit too clean to be from the beast ran up both his legs just shy of his hips revealing long legs adorned in gorgeous ink patterns climbing up them and disappearing up the torso. It was clear Shang Qinghua cut them up to increase mobility. The sleeves were also ripped, also covered with beautiful tattoos and the high collar of the robes were open showing off beautiful collar bones. His hair was left free and falling russet waves down his back to his knees and with each shift Shen Qingqiu could see a silver shine of what seems to be metal strings woven into it. He was... He was a vision.
Shang Qinghua was always covered. He wore high collar robes that never showed an inch of skin on his body. So seeing him with his legs and arms and his collar visible, it was obscene! Shen Qingqiu realized to horror that he was blushing. His entire face was burning! Shang Qinghua must have succubus blood in him! He must have! Shen Qingqiu is not the type to blush at every pretty face! He hoped to the gods that Shang Qinghua just think of his blushing face as a result of exertion.
As Shang Qinghua drew closer, Shen Qingqiu noticed something strange. Gauntlets. Silver gauntlets carved with seals. Two on the ankles, two on the wrists. And one collar on the neck. Hidden underneath high collar robes as they were, this was the first time Shen Qingqiu had ever seen them. At first they looked like enhancers and looking at the lightning still attacking the beast which seemed to be getting smaller and smaller, it seemed most likely. But Shen Qingqiu was done assuming things about Shang Qinghua. And he was right, because closer inspection revealed the seals to be limiters. Shen Qingqiu for the first time since he became a Peak Lord, was truly astonished. Limiter seals active on five points on the body and undoubtedly forming a restructure five point qi circuit and still manages to defeat two S class demonic beasts? Incredible. Shen Qingqiu wanted to know everything about him. He wanted to burrow underneath his skin. He has never wanted anything more.
After the Beast shrunk down somehow, Shang Qinghua retrieved it with a talisman that seemed to be some sort of Binding. He silently clutched the swans together and made his way to one of the caves, silently motioning for Shen Qingqiu to follow. As they made their way up the caves, Shen Qingqiu looked at his mysterious companion and told him what he was adamant about from the moment he saw the other bring down the wrath of the heavens,
"You can't hide from me anymore."
Shang Qinghua was silent. Then, like a whisper of silk on soft skin, he replied,
"I can try."
Shen Qingqiu smirked,
"Yes you can. But you won't succeed."
The Xiu Ya sword looked the two beasts the other was holding, two Thousand Screams Swans.
"Is Shang Lei even a real name? "
The other didn't answer and that was an answer in itself. Shen Qingqiu couldn't wait to have him.
Anon oh my god this is GORGEOUS!!! Thank you for feeding me, it was delicious!! Bamf SQH! Beautiful SQH! Badass, pretty, mysterious SQH!!!! Attractive as hell, an unattainable prospect!!!

Because my brain does NOT stop even when Iâm grounded, today my brain told me, âHey, I figured out how to make a Hobbit Fusion AU work.â And I was like, âGreat! Weâre working, though.â And my brain was like, âIâve figured out how to make it a Pre-Canon Canon Divergence AU for Moshang.â
And I was like, â...Iâm listening.â
The Hobbit is another one of my Comfort Media and it got brought up when I was asking about that, but I was feeling kind of âehâ about mixing Tolkien mythology with SVSSS. I mean, the mental picture of Dwarf Mobei-Jun is extremely funny and Shang Qinghua would make a great hobbit! But that interpretation felt a little too direct for my AU tastes.
So, hm, now I have another potential Big Bang contender. My love for The Hobbit is very, VERY strong and looking at my current outline, I have to be like, âYeah, this could be 50,000 words, no problem.â
Itâs a very good outline!
-
After saving Mobei-Jun, Shang Qinghua bailed A.S.A.P. because he honestly thought Mobei-Jun was going to kill him. He psyched himself out of sticking around before Mobei-Jun woke up. Mobei-Jun didnât get enough information to track Shang Qinghua down.
Shang Qinghua (who isnât SQH because he isnât the Peak Lord) decides that he canât fucking take it anymore and bails from Cang Qiong Mountain Sect too. The System objects, but also falls into line when Airplane shrieks at it. Airplane is going to go become a humble merchant and inventor and thereâs nothing anyone can do to stop him!
It turns out that Shang Qinghuaâs presence or help was actually crucial to stop some Emperor of the Abyss from taking over the Ice Palace and the Northern Desert. Airplane is like, âOh, yeah, I remember⊠offhandedly writing something about that happening in the past off-screen?â It was one of those things that he just threw in there because it sounded really cool, and it gave Mobei-Jun another reason to âoweâ Shang Qinghua and not kill him immediately, but he never got to elaborate on it because he was too busy writing stallion novel bullshit.
So, borrowing the lore from my âHornsâ one-shot, an extremely powerful Emperor of the Abyss escaped the Eternal Abyss. This is some devouring horror being from the depths of the abyss, which ate everything in its vicinity in the abyss itself and crawled into the Demon Realm to eat more things. The Emperor of the Abyss was attracted to Mobei-Junâs father. They fought. Mobei-Junâs father should have won, but didnât, because he was too fucked up (thanks to his own hedonism or something) to fight properly. What an asshole.
Mobei-Junâs father was killed and devoured by the Emperor of the Abyss, which has made it⊠exponentially powerful. Itâs now⊠basically a calamity. The desolation that it leaves in its wake across the Northern Desert is unspeakable. Mobei-Jun and his family, their allied clans, and pretty much all demons in the Northern Desert have had to flee.
Mobei-Jun is currently essentially a âguestâ of the Sha Clan. Heâs homeless. Heâs lost the power of his ancestors. Heâs a âkingâ without a kingdom. Itâs humiliating. He needs to kill the abyssal creature to retrieve: his title, his ancestorsâ power, and his kingdom.
While working for other demon clans to support his family and people, Mobei-Jun crosses paths with Airplane. Airplane has become a relatively successful merchant and inventor, and he calls himself Shang Houhua. He lives a very comfortable life and does his best to ignore anything resembling the plot. Heâs pretty successful at ignoring the plot.
Mobei-Jun is never in a good mood these days, but heâs especially pissed off to see that human who abandoned him all those years ago. Airplane tries to argue that Mobei-Jun told him to fuck off, but Mobei-Jun is too angry. Airplane makes lots of offers in an effort to get Mobei-Jun to spare his life, one of which ends up being a claim that he can help Mobei-Jun kill the Emperor of the Abyss and make him a king again. Mobei-Jun pauses, now even more pissed off than before, and Airplane just starts babbling desperately to save his own skin.
Mobei-Jun was already forming a company to take on a Quest for the Northern Desert - in the hopes of slaying the Emperor of the Abyss and retaking his homeland. Part of the issue has been that forming the company is difficult. Mobei-Jun wants people who are loyal to HIM and ONLY to him. He wonât owe anyone else anything or promise them pieces of his homeland.
(Airplane is like, âBro, I donât know if you can afford to be so picky, but okay.â)
So Mobei-Jun is like⊠âI still want to kill you, but fine, you can come on our quest and help us.â
So Airplane ends up on the Quest for the Northern Desert, led by his very angry future murderer the âking without a kingdomâ Mobei-Jun, to fight the calamitous Emperor of the Abyss who killed Mobei-Junâs father. Fuck.
Some details beyond this opening premise:
Airplane and Mobei-Jun fall in love over the course of the quest, obviously. They have their own hijinks like each chapter of The Hobbit (equivalents to the trolls, to Rivendell, to Goblintown, to Beorn, to Mirkwood, and to Laketown, etc.).Â
Oh, damn, I just realized that making a pre-fall Tianlang-Jun and Zhuzhi-Lang the Beorn equivalents would be so fucking funny.
The Emperor of the Abyss is a horrifying Smaug equivalent. It can totally talk because Airplane having a conversation with a draconian horror sounds incredible. I would love to have Airplane outwit the Emperor of the Abyss in some fashion.
Mobei-Jun and Airplane somehow manage to successfully kill the Emperor of the Abyss together. Like, together. Probably using some plot device whipped up or some clever plan devised by Airplane on his feet. Mobei-Jun trusts Airplane at a crucial moment and it all works out. Airplane actually gets Mobei-Jun his kingdom back.
Iâm tempted to just skip over the Ring and not having a Ring equivalent. BUT if I made this into a longfic instead of a one-shot, I would have a Ring equivalent (if it was a one-shot, I would ditch the Ring equivalent). I think I would make Xin Mo the One Ring equivalent. During the Goblintown equivalent event, Airplane falls either into the Eternal Abyss or into Bing-Geâs dimension, where he proceeds to successfully take up Xin Mo because he knows the trick and portal himself out of the Eternal Abyss, or he proceeds to outwit Bing-Ge in some fashion and uses the Xin Mo sword to portal himself back to the right dimension.
So then Airplane is stuck with this super powerful sword that he doesnât want to use again because he KNOWS that it will fuck him up. He KNOWS that it will FUCK HIM UP. So Airplane has to go through the rest of the quest ignoring the temptation of the Xin Mo sword that he is absolutely not supposed to have and canât possibly let anyone else have.
(Oh, man, imagining the influence of Xin Mo giving Airplane extra horny thoughts about Mobei-Jun on the rest of the quest is very funny. Like, Airplane was already hot for Mobei-Jun, but now itâs worse and he might never have a normal thought ever again.)
Bagginshield Movie Hug when Airplane turns up again, for sure. Mobei-Jun thought he was dead. Mobei-Jun smiles and everything, until he remembers to frown again.
Iâm feeling like I donât want Airplane to use Xin Mo to help defeat the Emperor of the Abyss, but it makes sense if he does. Him not using it doesnât make much sense. I do like the idea of Airplane dealing the killing blow and Mobei-Junâs pride being hurt by Airplane being the one to kill it. I also like the idea of Mobei-Jun being a little smitten by Airplane just⊠loyally handing him his kingdom and restoring the power of his ancestors. I also really like the idea of Airplane just⊠not having some super powerful plot device up his sleeve on the quest.
Like, instead of Airplaneâs Author God knowledge totally setting him up to deal with this thing no problem, Airplane had NO FUCKING PLAN when he set out with Mobei-Jun. He was talking completely out of his ass when he said he knew how to help Mobei-Jun. That this all worked out at all is almost completely due to luck and improvisation.
That feels MUCH more true to both Shang Qinghua and to Bilbo Baggins. Lucky lads of fast-talking, complaining, lying, not knowing what the fuck is really going on, thirsting after kings with tragic backstories, and somehow not dying despite winging it all the time.
Instead of goldsickness, Mobei-Jun is forced to deal with some side-effects of consuming the Emperor of the Abyss to regain the power of his ancestors. (Demon cannibalism rituals. Yeah.) He starts acting really scary and out-of-character and forceful, until Airplane loses his nerve and runs away. Maybe under the influence of the late Emperor of the Abyss, Mobei-Jun actually tries to kill him? I could see Mobei-Jun trying to kill Airplane for the Xin Mo sword which dealt the finishing blow on the Emperor of the Abyss.
(I need a better name for this thing. If I canât come up with something that actually sounds good, I might just call it âThe Calamityâ, but thatâs giving me BOTW vibes so I donât like it. Maybe Iâd call it âThe Desolationâ or something? Ehhhh, I donât really like that either.)
I want to have a Battle of the Five Armies equivalent, if only so Tianlang-Jun and Zhuzhi-Lang can swoop in as benevolent helpers as the Beorn equivalents. Currently, Iâm seeing three options. 1) The orc army equivalent are neighboring demon lords who want to strike while the new Mobei-Jun is getting established. 2) The orc army equivalent is Linguang-Jun trying to kill his nephew and take power at the last minute. 3) The orc army equivalent is Bing-Ge here with an army and heâs pissed off and wants his sword back.
On one hand, 1 and 2 would be SO MUCH EASIER to pull off. I could be really lazy about the whole thing. On the other hand, 3 would be much fresher (more surprising and links back to the Xin Mo element), more challenging and the idea of pre-fall Tianlang-Jun facing off with Bing-Ge delights me. Kick his ass, Tianlang-Jun!
(Su Xiyan gets involved? My brain says YES. Kick his ass, Su Xiyan!)
Also, I was sad about there being no Fili and Kili equivalents, because Mobei-Jun has no friends, and Iâll have to make up a company pretty much from scratch. (Sha Hualing is too young and Luo Binghe hasnât been born yet.) BUT then I was like, âWhereâs Linguang-Jun in all this?â And I would absolutely have Linguang-Jun be a part of Mobei-Junâs Company. Instead of nephews, Mobei-Jun has a sketchy uncle who might be trying to kill him. Keeping Linguang-Jun out of it might be easier, but actually doing some character-building with him sounds fun and challenging, and Iâd rather limit the number of OCs if possible.
Mobei-Jun manages to shake off the goldsickness equivalent somehow, probably through âthe power of loveâ (and/or straight-up âdual cultivationâ with Airplane?). Moshang makes up while Mobei-Jun is apparently mortally wounded from fighting Bing-Ge and Airplane thinks this is all his fault. But Mobei-Jun doesnât die! Itâs all good! Â
Itâd be pretty funny if there was a âReturning to the Shireâ equivalent where Airplane leaves because he thinks Mobei-Jun hates him now and never wants to see him again. So then Mobei-Jun has to track his man down like, âGet back here and marry me. (Also I am so sorry for trying to kill you. Please forgive me. I hate myself so much for that.)â
And they all live happily ever after!
Holy shit, this wasnât in Proud Immortal Demon Way.

Moshang AU where as a kid sqh was lonely and didnât have any friends so he spent most of his time creating characters and stories since he was young, but he keeps having these strange dreams that feel so life-like where he keeps meeting the same person over and over again. He canât touch anything in the dreams and nobody seems to be able to see or hear him except one boy. As the years pass and he starts writing more and more, he bases one of his big stories on the world of his dreams. Since he was a kid, he realizes that most people donât have such reoccuring dreams like he does and a lot of people and other kids think heâs weird or something is wrong with him when he talks about his dreams so he stops talking about them and keeps them to himself. He thinks of the boy in his dreams as an imaginary friend that he must have made up out of his own loneliness.Â
Meanwhile, the first time Mobei Jun meets this strange boy who appears to either be dead or some type of spirit is when he is a child in the water prison of Huan Hua Palace. At first Mobei Jun is terrified of the spirit thinking it might harm him too, but then he sees the spirit yell at the cultivator who hit him to leave mbj alone and stop picking on someone smaller than him. Imagine small 6-7 year old sqh just trying to kick the cultivatorâs shin, but his leg keeps passing through the personâs body like heâs just a ghost or something. Even though sqh is like âthis is all a dreamâ he canât help but feel bad for this boy in his âdreamsâ so he tries to comfort the boy and stays with him until mbj is eventually rescued. Does small mbj hold onto the only kindness and comfort given to him in such a terrifying situation after being betrayed by his uncle? Absolutely. From that moment after the Huan Hua Palace incident, every night sqh falls asleep he appears in mbjâs world usually somewhere close by where mbj is. Young mbj and sqh becoming each otherâs only friends. I feel like the more time passes sqh starts questioning what is real and what is fake. Sqh warning mbj of assassination attempts. Sqh spying on suspicious members of the court, uncovering schemes and plots against mbj because he can literally follow them and listen in on their conversations without anyone being able to see or hear him. Mbj being able to trust and confide in sqh without having to doubt if sqh may one day betray him because no one else can even see or hear sqh so even if sqh wanted to betray him he physically wouldnât be able to. But mbj would trust him even if he was able to be here physically and could interact with others because sqh has shown over and over again that he cares for mbj. Sqh telling mbj all his fears, doubts, and insecurities because he thinks this is all a dream so heâs like âI feel safe enough to tell him these thingsâ because heâs not actually ârealâ.
As they get older there are times when sqh doesnât show up for one or two days in a row and when he does he always appears tired and weary with dark circles under his eyes and his usual round cheeks a bit thinner than they normally are and it makes mbj worried!! (Sqh needing to pull all nighters to finish chapters of his story to get paid to make enough money for rent and food means no sleep). Does mbj worry that one day sqh will just disappear forever and never come back when he disappears? All the time. Does he also wish that sqh could be alive and living here with mbj in his world? also yes. Mbj falling in love with sqh, pining for a person who can never physically stay with him, but it doesnât stop mbj from pondering the what-if scenarios of them being married, with sqh as his consort. What it would be like if sqh didnât have to randomly disappear without any warning (when sqh wakes up)? Sqh also falls in love with mbj too, but heâs still in this weird place where he thinks mbj is just his imaginary friend/crush since he thinks this is all still a dream and also what are the chances that mbj grew up to be exactly his type both physically and in demeanor, sqh is like âobviously my lonely brain created the perfect man/crush out of my subconsciousâ.Â
Iâm also imagining how cute it is for young mbj to excitedly show sqh around the ice palace and mbj feeling happy to see the other get excited over every little thing. Itâs odd how some of the everyday mundane things around the place make sqh gasp in excitement, but mbj finds it oddly endearing. Imagine mbj taking sqh sightseeing around the demon realm and going to festivals together over the years both in the demon realm and also some in the human realm. Sqh telling mbj he just HAS to try this or that food from the food stalls at the festival because he canât do it himself so mbj has to try it and tell him what it tastes like! Can you just imagine sqh whining that he wants to be able to try all these foods and for some reason mbj feels his heart skip a beat when sqh looks at him with a pout. How much he wishes sqh could really be here with him, that he would buy sqh a whole stall worth of food if sqh asked for it, how much he wishes to dress him in his clanâs colors, to know what it would feel like to touch his hand. He imagines it would feel warm since sqh appears to be human, and warmth should be uncomfortable for an ice demon, and yet it is that warmth that mbj craves and wants so badly.
Things change though when sqh arrives in the middle of an assassination attempt that almost succeeds and a knife is about to stab mbj in his unguarded back thatâs moving much too quickly and sqh in desperation moves without thinking to block the knife with his body even though it would have just gone right through him, but something changed and he felt incredible pain as a knife stabs him in the shoulder. Mbj only catches the shocked expression on sqhâs face before he disappears, the knife that was in him only moments ago clattering on the ground still stained with blood. Mbj makes quick work of the assassin killing him and cradles the knife like it might shatter or disappear as well. Mbj keeps the dagger without cleaning the blood off letting it dry permanently onto the blade as it is now a stark reminder and symbol that sqh is real and that somehow if he can bleed and get stabbed in his world that means there is a way that sqh can be here physically. That knife is a symbol of hope to mbj and he keeps it with him like a prized treasure. Meanwhile, right after he got stabbed, sqh wakes up abruptly in his bed in his apartment and feels agonizing pain in his shoulder and looks to see blood quickly soaking his shirt from what appears to be a stab wound, but with no evidence that someone had broken in or that he somehow could have accidentally stabbed himself in his sleep. As he is laying in the hospital getting treated for a stab wound, he is internally panicking and freaking out that his dreams are more real than he ever previously thought and that means that whole world and mbj are real!! On one side, hooray that he wasnât losing his mind like everyone else used to say about him! On the other hand, holy shit that means he has been half existing in another world for most of his life!!

Seer!Airplane + Harem AU
Brain: Letâs give SQH a Harem :D
Me: SQH doesnât know what to do with himself, he wouldnât know what the fick to do with a harem :|
Brain: :D of course, the man doesnât realize he even has one.
Me:... wut
Brain: And here is the totally new AU drabbled and noted out for how it happens~
....
So, my brain gave me this, so I hope to infect others with it as well.
Ever since Airplane (Shang Huan), was young, heâs always had strange dreams and an interesting ability with words and languages. Not to mention just how he always seemed to know certain things, simple really, like how he knew to bring an umbrella one sunny day that wouldnât remain that way, to even what paths to take to avoid the bullies in his life. Heâs grown this way, never noticed it was strange or unusual, and with parents more focused on tearing each other apart and ignoring any memories of when they were together, Airplane figures itâs just like the rest of his anxieties and worries, though at least the knowing can get him out of being beaten up or a perfect sale at the supermarket.
(The nightmares arenât worth it; nameless amounts of people, that if he looks too hard at, he can know their entire backstories and futures no longer possible, cut short for blood and sport and greed.)
It is only one day, with desperation and hunger biting in his being, dreams stolen and ruined by others (And how was it, did he know this was still the best outcome? What could be worse- no, donât ask that, it could always lead to ruin that question-) that Airplane, with only his little talent for script writing and his nightmares to aid him, starts to write, hoping for just enough money to get dinner eventually.
It... proves surprisingly popular. Just write what he dreams, maybe embellish here and there, take out that part, work around here, and just ignore that certain event and hey, this story is surprisingly coming together well. Are there a few plot holes? Sure, but considering the literal mass grave of answers for those holes, Airplane is content to leave them like that (pleasedonâtmakehimwritethatseeingitwasalreadyhorrifyinghedoesnotwanttoreliveit). Â
Things are going good; all his hospital bills that his fatherâs insurance doesnât cover have been paid, his rent money has already been turned in, and hey, he even has some extra cup noodles. How can life get any better? (thedreamscouldstop-)
And then the world turns strange; weird creatures have started to be discovered, strange flora has been unearthed, and natural disasters seem to not be so natural as once thought.
Not to mention just how people have changed as well; or if they were ever regular people at all. Some seem to turn feral, no mind to think with as they act like zombies all of a sudden, supernatural feats of strength suddenly coming about...
Strangers suddenly flying about on swords, letting loose great shows of light...
Airplane ignores it; itâs all he can do. (Thereisnothingtobedonebutwait.) He codes for his story, makes some noodles to enjoy as he reads some comments, and naturally dies. (right on time)
Airplane is admittedly taken off guard when he actually wakes up, back in his crappy little apartment, terrible bruising all up his arms (therearesomanypathssolittletime), when he looks around and sees the change in the world.
And he knows; his stories are no longer mere words and nightmares anymore, but now combined with his waking world, now and forever.
- Read under for more notes and such on this world~
So, basically, Airplane/Shang Huan has been dreaming of the world where his stories takes place, the PIDW world, and using it to make money because he is a desperate little gremlin. (Now, with his powers, he can see multiple paths, and all, but he doesnât see everything, especially if he himself changes fate, making the paths shrink and become a little more hazy.)Â
So one day, his world and PIDW world merge, causing countless calamities and disasters, even as the world heals and blossoms under it all. See, what happens is that when Bing-geâs Harem finally turned on him and all (I donât know if this is canon or fanon but it fits), Bing-ge in turn used the Wrath of the Heavens, which is not something even the craziest of Heavenly Demons would do if that says anything, which wreck a whole bunch of shit and mashed a few planes of existence together.
A lot of people died because of this... and yet, a lot of peeps were brought back because of this as well. Airplane did in fact die because of being electrocuted, but because of that, the energy left from the WOH merged with it, ending up kickstarting and powering him up instead of killing him outright.
And it is a very good thing SQH got that power up; he is going to have so many nightmares about it, but being able to manipulate, control, and use electricity and lightening are what ensure him survival for a good month before his city is made livable again. (He would do worse to survive, has done worse, what is a little electrical trauma in the name of his life?)
And look, even his intuition and foresight seemed to have greatly improved! Yay? (Nay so many n i g h t m a r e s)
Heâll be fine, he can walk it off. But as it is, Airplane starts to be rather... lucky with some of his finds.
-
Ironically, it starts with a man dressed in pale blues, eye tired and ever so dead, blood covering his fancy fantasy robes, a familiar crest/symbol (To Airplane) stitched over where the heart would be. A Traitor abused and used up, nothing left but rock bottom and yet still willing to dig if it meant living. (Oh, how that rings familar~)
Airplane has seen the past of Shang Familyâ Honorable Third Son Shang Shaoqing and the future of the backstabing An Ding Peak Lord Shang Qinghua. Airplane knows that this is a desperate man who has done all he could to survive, with the mind like so many steel traps and mazes to dig around in...
Airplane saves them, avoiding a slow death the man would have had, earning him gratitude and suspicion all at once. The Writer doesnât care, he just knows that having this guy on his side is just a logical choice; the man not only has more insider knowledge then anyone else in the world, but even knows how to use it.
On Shang Qinghuaâs side.
With all the karmatic debt I have, I can not avoid this Life Debt... but once I pay my debt, I am gonna blow this popsicle stand.
Huh, this guy is actually kinda useful, maybe I should stick around
OH FUCK WHY DOES HE HAVE HEAVENLY TRIBULATION LIGHTNING?! HE NEEDS TO START CULTIVATING STAT
WHY IS THIS MAN SUCH A DISASTER?!?! NOW I HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF HIM AND MAKE SURE HE DOESNâT GET HURT.
*Airplane tenderly taking care of his injuries, nervous smile on his face even as it is so soft* âYou didnât have to take that attack but... thank you for having my backâ SdndejnejdbbhjD no, you have no right looking so cute, fuck why is this happening?!Â
.... This man is a fucking Seer... Actual, full blown, Doomsayer Seer, Not the Succubus Soothsayers who can just see little things, no, actual, can literally effect the fabric of Fate and Destiny Seer.... Fuck his life, he probably owes this guy even more now...
*Shang Qinghua snarks in response, only to get equally snarked in reply* .... I wonât say Iâm in love...
Fuck, if anything happens to his disaster of a Seer he will go on a massacre and then probably become a demonic cultivator to revive him...
 So yeah, over the course of maybe a few months, Shang Qinghua has regretsTM and Airplane gets an actually loyal bodyguard... Meanwhile~
Airplane: -Sigh- As nice as it is to have Shang Qinghua around, it wonât last forever; once the man pays back his debt, he just leave (like everyone else).
And then time for drama! The two get separated by unsteady space rips, Airplane having enough time to yell out a safe place for them to meet again before they end up on opposite sides to each other. So now, not only does Airplane have to work on surviving, but on the (hopeful) reunion between the two.
Cue Airplaneâs next âLucky Findâ
-Â
Airplane hears the sound of sword and spell before he ever actually sees anything. Looking over the top of his nice ledge, safe enough from from any âfriendly fireâ, the young man feels his eyes widen when he sees who is fighting.
A beautiful, tall man in cream and tan colored robes, the ashen brunet directing their sword around them, using their other hand to throw out talismans when too crowded. And oh, how the mob surrounds this tired, too kind man, so weary for lost, all his grief stricken love no where to go in the lost of his family. (Oh, how jealous one can be, that someone got that love, no matter how fleeting it was in the end)
Airplane taking in Mu Qingfang, a healer forced to be a killer, a man with so much heartbreak in his soul, even as he determinedly live on, that shattered heart still wanting to help as much as it could. The Seer takes on how the other will die here, nothing left at all of such a heart, and in the end, Airplane helps, letting loose lightning upon the mob as he does.
Just makes sense, to have a Healer with you if you can.
On Mu Qingfangâs side:
This man is terrifying, how does he have tribulation lightning at his command??? but he did save me there, itâs only right I accompany him until I can pay it off (not like I have other things to do)
I am very, very grateful you saved me, but can you for all that is health PLEASE REST?!
Oh to the gods, how is a disaster like you alive? No, donât eat that!
*Airplane, a tired smile on his face as he shows off some potent healing herbs he found* âI managed to find them, a little tricky but I was wondering if you can make use of them, maybe? I remember you saying you were running low and all.â .... damn his heart for being weak to sincere care and actually thoughtful gifts.
*after a terrifying nightmare, Airplane nearly bleeding from his screams, eyes so haunted and terrified even as he clings onto Mu Qingfang* âPlease, I-I I just donât want to be alone right now... please.â bjhbdjd shit, how can he say no, letting the other cling to them as they finally fall asleep. (Do not think about how cute the other is, cuddled up against him)
...A Seer... a fully realized, Fate altering, Destiny denying Seer... Gods, that explains so damn much... Maybe he can make him a Dreamless Night tea? would at least help with headaches if nothing else.
And so, over the time they have together, Airplane has unknowingly received the care and affection of one powerful as heck healer, who can and will be willing to cut a bitch if it means they have to.
But on Airplane: *le sigh* ah, once they feel like Iâm well enough, theyâre probably go back to trying to find their Martial Brothers and Sisters.... Iâll at least help them as much as I can...
Now, they donât get separated: which is good, considering this next er... âLuckyâ Find.
-
They feel the temperature drop before they ever actually see the cause. Warily, the two men look to each other, but with no other way around it, move forward through the incredibly icy landscape.
It does not take them long to find the cause of it.
It is a Demon, Skin pale with a ghostly blue tint to their skin, beautiful snow white antlers branching out from their hand, ice collecting on the ends to make them even more deadly beautiful then before. And yet, for all that deadly beauty, are those ice like eyes, backdropped in the night sky look ever so tired, so betrayed (like always)
Mo Bolin, formerly Mobei-Jun is not one who has nothing left, but his willpower is draining, trapped as he is between the cursed artifact before him, no hope to escape it unless someone is willing to help.
Airplane sees this demon, this man who he greatly admired and aspired to be like, able to stand on their own and keep standing no matter what, no matter what the world came at them with, no matter the misery that had twisted a previously loving and warm child into the hardened, determined Warrior before him.
Letting his Lightning destroy the Artifact, the world weary youth takes the demonâs face in his hands, letting those icy night eyes look into his lightning bright ones, Mu Qingfang quiet but his sword at the ready behind him.
It will not be needed, as his Seer powers go to work.
âYou find so much betrayal, just seemingly never able to escape it.
You soul has had so much darkness and hurt just let sit.
You Fate is said to be a cruel one for a cruel being,
Hurt, fear, blood, Ice, and broken bonds and dreams are all I am seeing,
I do Not agree.
So, From this wicked Fate I will set you free.â and as those eyes stare into each other, Mo Bolin canât stop how he gasps, hand going to his heart, feeling lighter then he has in years.
Meanwhile, Airplane faints, having healed a better Fate for the former Mobei-Jun draining him good.
On Mobei-Junâs Part
 sdhkhbfwkkjdejdehjdehj Why? Just Why? Whatâs the reason the Seer did that?
Well, considering what he did, Mobei/Mo Bolin will have to find a way to pay the other back.
...Why is this Seer so Cute? He wants to pet it. (note: hitting will make the Healer stab him)
*Airplane, tired out from a long day having to fight through a bit battle, smiling in thanks, help Mu Qingfang with patching everyone up* âYou know, I really admire you; your strength and determination to always do your best, no matter how many people try to tear you down... I wish I could be like that.â wait what, no, youâre perfect like you are, you little gremlin seer. (Mu Qingfang agrees.)
*Airplane, suffering from a Fever, which means he has to cuddle with a certain Ice Demon to cool down*Â âAh, sorry for troubling you like this, my ideal man, but you are so cool... *snuggles* .... Damnit.
Like, Mobei-Jun/Mo Bolin knows Airplane can kick some ass already, but by the ancestors does he love seeing this little disaster of a man just wreck everyone around him.
So yeah, add one very smitten Demon Lord to the roster~ :D Oh, the loyalty was hard earned, and there is no way Mobei-Jun will be willing to part, even as he has to share with a Healer and whoever this Shang-Er they will be seeing soon.
For Airplane: ah, so cool to see my Ideal Man, but of course there is no way heâll stay by my side forever, what with all the things he probably needs to do.
 and this is all I got for the Harem on my side: now for the dynamics with each other:
Mobei-Jun and Mu Qingfang:Â the demon respects the healer greatly, and since they are both quiet peeps they donât have much conflict. as for the Healer, after his sect got destroyed, heâs had to do a lot of things to make sure him and his surviving disciples lived, so heâs not too against demons, and Mobei-Jun is very useful in fighting, so for now they cool.
Both when they see Shang Qinghua; ... D:<
On Mobei-Junâs side: his little traitorous spy just had to be back and be that Shang-Er close to Airplane. He does not like this, wants to smack the other around, but that would upset Airplane So he just glares. Shang Qinghua is not happy with this arrangement either, fully prepared to curse the other out and everything, but not going to stir the pot up more then he has to.
On Mu Qingfang: .... his backstabing martial brother is alive, but the thing is that Mu Qingfang and his disciples wouldnât have lived if it wasnât for the other; Shang Qinghua had saved them, transporting them away from the bloodshed that was about to happen. On Shang Qinghuaâs part, the Healer was the only Peak Lord to give him any damn respect and care, so he of course gave him an out along with his own peak disciples; he pays back debts.Â
(This is ironically the reason he got killed by Mobei-Jun, because he saved those disciples)
So, there is much drama for a while, the three having big shouting matches and discourse, but these guys will turn into Enemies to Frenemies to Salt Lords and then to the Airplane Protection squad... because when these three get together and agree on something, well, you just combined the only competent people from PIDW together~Â
And they all love Airplane :D
Thank you all for reading the insanity of this, I enjoyed writing it out~

TL;DWrite: How to Court a Dumb Human Bean
Mobei-Jun/Shang Qinghua
In which Shang Qinghua is kind of in love with Mobei-Jun, and misunderstands everything. You know, the typical situation. But this time, after a run-in with a strange demon girl, heâs also oblivious to the fact that he suddenly becomes incredibly attractive everyone else. And they all want him.Â
2,420 words, oblivious SQH, slight pining, courting, misunderstandings, harem potential but no harem, only Moshang
High cheekbones â check. Sharp jawline â check. Piercing gaze â check. Broad shoulders â check. Ridiculous height â check. Graceful air â check. Firm and defined muscles â double check. Very powerful â check, check, and check.
Shang Qinghua sighed to himself, shaking his head ever so slightly as he reluctantly drew his gaze away from his king and went back to the pile of paperwork in front of him.
Mobei-Jun stood across the room, glaring at a group of elders who seemed to have finally cornered him and wanted to get their point across while Mobei-Jun was still willing to entertain them.
Shang Qinghua had no doubt it was to pester him about getting married again. Ever since Luo Binghe basically up and abandoned his newfound seat of power like it was the side chick he accidentally got pregnant, Mobei-Jun had taken over full-time, and as a result, Shang Qinghua found himself with a lot more paperwork to get through.
While he worked his way through several stacks a day, Shang Qinghua silently cursed Cucumber Bro for going into seclusion with his demon husband to live the life of domestic bliss while he was stuck with a desk job! And he did not even get paid for this!
The only plus side of the paperwork was that Shang Qinghua was situated across from Mobei-Jun most of the day, and he could sneak as many glances as his heart desires. And if Mobei-Jun caught him in the act, Shang Qinghua only had to tap his brush against his chin like he was thinking hard.
Take that, Cucumber Bro. You arenât the only brilliant actor in this world!
âWhatâs wrong, my king?â Shang Qinghua asked when Mobei-Jun finally stormed away from the elders, and they were alone.
Mobei-Jun sat down on the throne of ice with an angry glower on his face. If it were directed at him, Shang Qinghua would be a blubbering mess of tears begging for his life. He felt a shiver run down his spine.
âDo you want to get married.â
Shang Qinghua blinked, wondering if he mishead. Then, his face flushed bright red. âMy- My king? I- This- This servant couldnât possibly be fit to marry you!â
The glower grew deeper, and now it was definitely directed at Shang Qinghua. âI meant, if you ever plan on getting married to anyone,â Mobei-Jun gritted out slowly.
Shang Qinghua was feeling faint now. Of course that was what Mobei-Jun meant! What the hell was he thinking?! He had obviously been daydreaming way too much!
âThis servant wouldnât dare!â Shang Qinghua squeaked. âMy entire life is dedicated to serving my king and no one else!â He wondered if now would be a good time to get on his knees and start blubbering.
Mobei-Jun grunted and turned the glare away. âI donât have a choice,â he said. âThe elders think⊠that the potential candidates they chose do not interest me.â
Shang Qinghua wiped away his tears and sniffled a few times. âDo they not appeal to my king?â
ââŠNot interested.â
Shang Qinghua thought about the long list of demon girls from various prestigious bloodlines. âPerhaps my kingâs taste is... of another gender?â
Mobei-Junâs glare turned back to him again.
Shang Qinghua was so dead. He just asked the second most powerful demon in the world if he was gay!
He gulped, his hand trembling and dripping ink all over the page. He quickly set it down and put his hands into his lap to hide them. Mobei-Jun just studied him hard, then looked away again, saying nothing.
âŠso it was not a ânoâ.
Shang Qinghua cleared his throat. âShould- Should this servant let the elders know? Iâm certain that there are many eligible demon males that are fit to be my kingâs consort? I- Iâve heard that homosexuality is quite common among demons! I mean, Sha Hualing is-â
âNot. Interested.â
âEh? But- But my king-â Shang Qinghua was at a loss. He almost threw his hands up in the air and tore at his hair while screaming, âTHEN WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU INTO?â
He took a deep breath instead. âPerhaps my king is not interested in anything romantic or, ahem, sexual. In that case-â
âNo.â
Shang Qinghua just stared blankly at him. After a few moments of silence, Mobei-Jun stared back at him.
âMy king, is there anyone youâve ever liked before? Anyone at all?â
There was a long silence. ââŠYes.â
âOkay! Great!â Shang Qinghua said desperately. âWhat- What did they look like? Maybe we can find them again, or- or at least find someone fitting those descriptions!â
Mobei-Jun tilted his head to the side a bit, studying Shang Qinghua with narrowed eyes. âSmall,â he said slowly. âHelpless. Like a baby bird.â
Shang Qinghuaâs mouth opened and closed a few times. âUh, okay. What- What color was their hair? Their eyes? Male, female? When did you last see them?â
Mobei-Junâs lips thinned as he continued staring at Shang Qinghua. âI see them every day,â he said slowly.
Shang Qinghua felt his excitement dim slightly. Ah, so it was a current crush. Despite being by his kingâs side on a daily basis, Shang Qinghua was not aware of this interest of his.
His smile wavered ever so slightly. âDo- Do they know you⊠feel this way towards them?â
Mobei-Junâs eyes narrowed further, boring deep into Shang Qinghuaâs soul. ââŠTheyâre not very perceptive,â he said gravely.
Despite the dull throbbing of his own heart, Shang Qinghua silently comforted Mobei-Jun. Unrequited love was not a good feeling.
âThen my king just needs to be more bold with his advances!â Shang Qinghua encouraged. âMaybe you just need to tell them you like them!â
Mobei-Jun considered it. âI⊠like you.â
Shang Qinghua nodded. âJust like that, my king!â
Mobei-Junâs glare grew deeper. Then, he shook his head. âDoesnât work.â
Shang Qinghua gave a nervous chuckle. âHow would you know if you donât try, my king? Maybe if you spend more time with them, theyâll eventually catch on.â
âMore time?â Mobei-Jun asked under his breath.
âOh, and helping them out would probably show that you care.â
Mobei-Jun nodded slowly. âI see,â he said. âThis⊠will work?â
Shang Qinghua gave him a weak smile that he hoped was encouraging. âUnless your person is a rock, theyâll certainly realize it.â
âOkay,â Mobei-Jun said. âThen, do you⊠want me to help-â
âAh!â Shang Qinghua gasped as an amulet around his neck started growing hot. He quickly pulled it out, the red stone glowing dully in his palm. âThis servant is late, my king!â he said. âI need to go pick up your new cloak now!â
He gave a hurried bow before scrambling out of the room, the doors slamming shut behind him.
Mobei-Jun sighed in annoyance. ââŠHeâs a rock.â
~~~
Shang Qinghua was running terribly late. He was supposed to go to a specialty shop to pick up a custom cloak of Mobei-Junâs.
A few weeks ago, Mobei-Jun had dropped a huge monster in front of his desk, blood still spilling from the fresh wound and staining the furs that served as a carpet in his room.
âThis is- This is a Frost Flower Tiger Seal?â Shang Qinghua gawked. âWhat- What does my king want me to do with it this time?â he asked.
Mobei-Jun had recently taken up the habit of hunting rare demonic monsters with pelts that could sell for a fortune or two. And he never told Shang Qinghua what he wanted him to do with them, except he showed extreme offense to Shang Qinghuaâs offer of selling them.
So he had no choice but to take the rare pelts and make them into rugs and coats and scarves.
The Fost Flower Tiger Sealâs slick pelt was extremely soft and completely waterproof. It was naturally a deep blue, with black streaks in it, like a tigerâs fur. So Shang Qinghua sent the pelt to a special clothing shop to have them customize a cloak for Mobei-Jun.
However, on the way, Shang Qinghua ran into a couple of demons who were in the process of dragging a poor human girl out of her hut.
âWhat a pretty little thing,â one of them leered. âWhy donât you come with us and keep us company?â
âLet me go!â she screamed, kicking and thrashing.
âHey!â Shang Qinghua shouted, glad he brought his sword. It had been a while since he drew it, and he had never been particularly good at fighting in the first place, and he was definitely rusty. He just hoped the threat would scare away the demons.
The other demon sniggered. âLook, another tiny human,â he said. âLetâs take them both.â
Shang Qinghua swung his sword, the weight throwing him off a little bit. He quickly regained his balance, his heart thumping hard in his chest.
If he called out like last time, would Mobei-Jun show up?
Suddenly, both demonsâ eyes were glued to Shang Qinghuaâs sword. Then, with a mess of senseless apologies, they dropped the girl and ran off faster than Shang Qinghua could figure out what made them run.
It was only afterwards that Shang Qinghua remembered the tassel tied to the end of his sword with Mobei-Junâs seal on it. Regardless, he gratefully sheathed his sword and rushed to the girlâs side.
âHey, you really shouldnât hang around here alone,â Shang Qinghua said, helping her up with a sigh.
The girl huffed. âI had it covered, you know,â she said. She reached into her sleeve and pulled out three needles, obviously coated with a deadly poison.
âAh,â Shang Qinghua said.
âThank you anyway,â she said. She looked him up and down. âWhatâs a human like you doing in the Demon Realm?â
âI could say the same for you.â
âNot human,â she said with a roll of her eyes. âAnd Iâm a travelling merchant. Anyway, I suppose I should repay you somehow. What do you want?â she asked. âIâve got strength potions, protection charms, cultivation enhancers.â
She seemed to have found all of Shang Qinghuaâs weaknesses with just a glance. Each suggestion felt like a small stab at all his lacking points.
âHeh, no need,â Shang Qinghua said, remembering he was on a tight schedule. âI need to get going.â
The girl tilted her head to the side. âWhere are you headed? I have a pill that can prolong your stamina. Most use it for sex purposes, but you can use it to travel too,â she said casually, ignoring the way Shang Qinghua coughed lightly.
âJust west,â he said vaguely. âI really should go.â
Finally, the girl sighed. âFine, fine. I wonât keep you. Here, take some water, at least. You look like you could use it.â
She disappeared into her hut briefly and came back with a small bottle. âItâs a bottle of Replenishing Water,â she said. âAs long as youâre thirsty, it will continue to produce water. And it doesnât take up much space, so itâs perfect for travel.â
Shang Qinghua glanced at the sun. He took the bottle. âMuch thanks,â he said quickly. He left before the girl could try pushing any more of her wares onto him.
The Replenishing Water did seem pretty useful though. Shang Qinghua took several sips from the tiny bottle, but every single time, more cool water poured from it. But if Shang Qinghua just tipped the bottle over dry ground, nothing came out.
He briefly wondered who that girl was exactly. But he did not think on it too much because he managed to catch the store just before closing.
âWait!â he called as the store owner, an elderly demon lady came out to lock up.
âThere you are!â she snapped, shoving the door open again.
Shang Qinghua followed her inside, apologizing over and over again for being so late. She grumbled as she went and grabbed the cloak, all wrapped up and boxed nicely. He reached for the money pouch in his robes when suddenly, the elderly demon lady grabbed his wrist.
âCome here,â she commanded.
âEh?â Shang Qinghua was pulled downwards roughly. She stared at him with her old eyes. âIs- Is everything alright, Madame?â
Suddenly, the usually sour expression on her face softened. âIâve never noticed before, but⊠you look like my late husband!â
âWh-What? You- You have to be mistaken. Madame, I am merely a human servant for my king! How could I-â
âIâm not mistaken!â she exclaimed. âYou look exactly like him!â Suddenly, she rushed forward, and Shang Qinghua stepped back, running out of the shop as quickly as he could. âHusband, come back! Your Gui-er has been waiting for you!â
Shang Qinghua did not look back. He ran for a few miles before he collapsed on the side of the road, absolutely exhausted. The sun had nearly set, and he was still a far way from the palace. He had really hoped he could avoid travelling by sword.
But before anything else, Shang Qinghua spent a few minutes chugging from the bottle of Replenishing Water. He felt much better after sitting for a bit and making sure the demon lady was not chasing him.
By then, it was completely dark and walking was no longer an option.
Still, Shang Qinghua was reluctant about riding his sword. He had not been confident about mounting his sword since rescuing Mobei-Jun and nearly killing both of them with his skills.
âAh, my king,â Shang Qinghua sighed aloud.
âWhat is it?â
Shang Qinghua wished he could say he did not scream like a little girl and drop the box holding the new cloak.
âMy- My king!â Shang Qinghua gasped, his heart doing a rapid staccato dance in his chest. âWhat- What are you doing here?â
âYou called,â Mobei-Jun said sternly, like it explained everything.
âThis- This servant was just heading back.â
âItâs late already,â Mobei-Jun said. He picked up the box and opened it. He took out the Frost Flower Tiger Seal cloak and inspected it.
âDoes my king approve?â Shang Qinghua asked nervously.
Mobei-Jun rubbed the thick cloak between his fingers. âItâs good,â he rumbled. Then, he draped the heavy cloak over Shang Qinghuaâs shoulders and clasped it in front.
âMy- My king?â
âLetâs go,â Mobei-Jun said, pulling him in by his waist and opening a portal.
They reappeared in the throne room, and Mobei-Jun led them into the adjoining room that served as his and Shang Qinghuaâs office.
Shang Qinghua started to take off the cloak, but a sharp glare from Mobei-Jun stopped him. He left it on instead.
Liked the idea at first. I just felt it would take a longer than a brief one-shot, so I kinda procrastinated and lost interest. Will I come back to this one? Not likely.
Chapter 26 â What You Wantâ of âpride is not the word Iâm looking forâ quotes and commentary. Not a full list of favorite quotes or full commentary.
Oh, this got so long, though. I was like, âAn opportunity to wax poetic about Moshang dynamics and characterization? An opportunity to talk about why my interpretations of Mobei-Jun and Shang Qinghua are Like That? SIGN ME UP.âÂ
-
ăBeginning next mission stage.ă
ăDeath of the Author - Part 2: The Secret Basement of Shang Qinghua.ă Â
ăMission objective: place the Weeperâs Eye on the pedestal.ă
Shang Qinghua slowly sits up on his sofa. He stares at the pop-up window for however long it takes his brain to roll over completely.
âI donât have a fucking basement?â he says finally.
-Â
AN: I have been waiting to use âI donât have a fucking basement?â for months. Also, itâs been years for him, so Shang Qinghua is a little oblivious, BUT I would like to point readers all the way back to some paragraphs from Chapter 2.Â
Excerpt from Chapter 2:Â âA Horseshoe Nailâ:Â Â
Shang Qinghua considers the point loss. What are his excuses character motivations here? Why is his unmerciful System not completely skewering him for this?
He is the servant of a demon lord, Mobei-Jun, the future Northern King, so he has a greater investment than most cultivators in the future of the Demon Realm, so itâs not unreasonable for him to seek out any bastards of Tianlang-Jun without handing the demon baby over to a righteous sect. Heâs also a Peak Lord of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, so itâs not unreasonable for him to be interested in any rumors of the whereabouts of Su Xiyan or what happened to her, for political leverage or whatever. The character of Shang Qinghua originally was and still is a spy - on top of being a shameless coward willing to cling to anyoneâs thighs and then stab them in the back, in order to stay alive or advance himself.
There are plenty of magical artifacts in this world that might give a power-grubbing weakling like Shang Qinghua an insight into the future. As Peak Lord of An Ding, Shang Qinghua is, in fact, in a pretty good place to get his greedy hands on one of these magical artifacts. Isnât that what a good spy and overall ambitious snake would do?
 Especially a spy serving a demon lord extremely likely to get fed up with him and kill him at some point? While also serving a righteous cultivation sect extremely likely to execute him for eventually betraying them? Of course Shang Qinghua would obviously want to know how to save his own ass from these ticking time-bombs! And how better to save his own ass than shamelessly clinging to the golden thighs of the protagonist, who will one day conquer every other demon lord and all righteous sects?
Following Luo Binghe means being on the endgame winning team!
Shang Qinghua looks over the pop-up windowâs numbers over again, in regards to the loss of points. True, how exactly he tracked down Su Xiyanâs half-demon baby when the Huan Hua Palace Master failed is a bit of a plot-hole, but the rest can be easily explained away with a bit of creativity!
Oh, the rest of the cultivation world didnât know Su Xiyan was pregnant? Well, Shang Qinghua is a slimy, sneaky spy, who would of course guess that a female cultivator might suddenly disappear like that for months-on-end due to a secret pregnancy! And given that Su Xiyanâs reputation had been linked to a passionately self-destructive Tianlang-Jun⊠Okay, he can feel the anti-fan rage at that mildly sexist line of thinking, but it stands! It stands!
Now, Shang Qinghua just has to⊠actually decide⊠whether or not he wants to take the point loss, in order to save the life of his protagonist sonâs adoptive mother, Luo Jiahui.Â
Shang Qinghua, my darling fool of an Author God, your System is listening to the things you say and think.Â
I have been WORKING here to foreshadow where Iâm going with this story. Iâm pretty sure that every single endgame plot point has shown up and is now in play in PINTWILF. Shang Qinghua, due to situational awareness, is dealing with too much in-world shit to narrow things down easily, but itâs all there! It will hopefully not seem as though Iâm pulling things out of nowhere in the next and final part (Part 4) of this fic.Â
-
âThis makes me look crazy, bro,â Shang Qinghua  complains to the System. âIt really does. I already have to be careful about talking to the secret, world-controlling system that lives in my head and this? This is not making me look any more stable! Where did this come from? Where the fuck did I even get it?! â
Oh, things are coming together in Shang Qinghuaâs head and he doesnât know if he really likes the picture. On one hand, itâs always nice to actually have someone or something to blame for things beyond the fucking System. On the other hand, he really doesnât know how the fuck heâs supposed to sleep at night with a full-length, polished silver mirror with an ornate golden frame under his house.Â
-Â
AN: Shang Qinghua, have you noticed that youâve stopped losing points for continuity errors and plot holes? Shang Qinghua, you know that the people in your life have noticed that you know too much. Theyâve just decided not to question you about it because you always look like youâre going to faint when they do, then you laugh and change the subject.Â
But now Shen Qingqiu is on to you and heâs not so easy to shake.Â
(Plus Shen Yuan! Theyâre terriers, SQH!)Â
-Â
He turns away from the mirror, only for a second System window to pop up in front of him. Only⊠the design of this one is different. Familiar, though! It takes Shang Qinghua a second to place it as Peerless Cucumber- as Shen Yuanâs Transmigration System.
 ă Users cannot be injured, killed, or trapped inside the looking-glass! The user will not be able to touch or be touched by anything inside the looking-glass! The user will be returned from the looking-glass within thirty minutes, unharmed! A substantial point reward is attached to this bonus mission. ă
âRight,â Shang Qinghua says.
This second pop-up window then shifts colors and is ruthlessly closed before his eyes. Ah, wow, Shang Qinghua kind of feels like he just saw someone get murdered here.
â...How many points?â he asks finally, reluctantly curious.
-Â
AN: Having the Systems fight is so much fun. My setup here in PINTWILF has it so that thereâs a main Worldbuilding System that does its best to maintain the world, then each transmigrator has their own personal Transmigration System managing their case.Â
This is so the Worldbuilding System can maintain the world without the presence of transmigrators, and so the personal Systems can potentially follow their transmigrators into another world. All the Systems interact with each other in order to try to manage things and there are... issues. Â
Look, the thing about simulated (or managed) realities for me is... someone coded the thing (or did some equivalent of coding the thing), and whether or not this thing in question is the world or just the System, if there are multiple entities trying to manage things, thereâs going to be fuck-ups. You canât have two cooks in the kitchen without points where the two cooks get in each otherâs way at least a little bit. If there are multiple Systems, then youâre going to have friction, and that friction can be funny.Â
Inspired by me trying to run two heavy art programs on my computer at once and being like, âOh, boy, please donât burst into flames while duking it out in there. Oh, man, you two were NOT made to operate together, huh?âÂ
-Â
He knows heâs right when he walks away from some kind of important-looking procession, stepping into the next room at the same time as someone else, who looks directly at him and doesnât look away. Shang Qinghua freezes in the doorway and doesnât let himself stare so much as he canât stop himself.
 âOh, no,â Shang Qinghua thinks.
Thereâs a man standing in front of him, tall and broad-shouldered, with an ageless youth, but a sharp gaze and no youthful roundness to his features. His curly black hair has been cursorily held back from his face by a golden ornament, but is otherwise loose, and he wears his ornate red and black robes well and correctly, but like a man with a hundred more.
The man flicks a strong hand at the doors behind Shang Qinghua, which slam shut with a bang, like heâs done this a thousand times before.
He smiles unkindly. âShang-Shishu,â he says, like heâs tasting the title, considering tearing it apart with his teeth. âSo it's true. How curious.â
Thereâs no way for Shang Qinghua to count how many times heâs seen this face before, but heâs never seen it like this. The man looks like an emperor. He looks like a god. The red mark of the Heavenly Demons burns like a crown in the middle of his forehead.
Shang Qinghua takes an unwilling step back.
âWhat are you afraid of?â the original Luo Binghe says, still smiling. âWeâre only talking.â
-Â
AN: I tried to make this meeting mirror Shang Qinghua and Luo Bingheâs first scene in Part 3 of the fic, in which we finally meet the Luo Binghe (Shang Qinghuaâs nephew) who is going to interact with the PIDW plot.Â
Excerpt from Chapter 18:Â âThe Inevitable Plotâ:Â
The restaurant is closed when Shang Qinghua lets himself in. The tables in the dining room are still packed up, lit by dim light through shuttered windows, and the only sign of another person are the chopping sounds coming from the brightness of the kitchen. Shang Qinghua stops in the doorway and lets himself stare.
Thereâs a young teenage boy standing at the counter, thirteen going on fourteen, still not yet near his adult height (taller than Shang Qinghua, a fact he's still not prepared to face), still carrying a youthful roundness to his features. Shang Qinghua has seen him like this a hundred times before: curly black hair tied back, a kerchief covering his head to keep it out of his eyes, a slightly yellowed matching apron neatly tied just the way his mother taught him, and intent on the work in front of him. His hands are quick, the knife sharp and sure, and the movements of food preparation work slide right into each other like heâs done this a thousand times before.
When did the boy get so big? It didnât happen all at once; it snuck up on them, hiding dastardly in plain sight! Shang Qinghua remembers when his nephew barely came up to his waist. Fuck, Shang Qinghua remembers when his nephew couldnât walk. What is this? Who allowed time to pass like this?
Luo Binghe scrapes the chopped vegetables off the board and into the basket beside him, before putting down the knife and turning around. He smiles.
Thereâs no way for Shang Qinghua to count how many times heâs seen that before.
âUncle,â the protagonist says fondly. âYouâre here.â
-Â
âLetâs talk,â Luo Binghe calls out, cajoling now. âStop running and speak to me and perhaps old hurts can be forgiven. All that condonation and betrayal is so far in the past now. This lord can be merciful, Shang Qinghua. Just speak: how many things have you been hiding...?â
-Â
AN: This is PIDW Luo Binghe, by the way.Â
Once I realized I was going to have a room full of fortune-telling devices, I was like... âOoh! Bing-Ge scene! I should have a Bing-Ge scene!â Because, like, thatâs the curse of SVSSS transmigrator protagonists who trip into caring about Luo Binghe, baby!Â
-Â
Shang Qinghua takes some deep breaths to calm his poor, weak heart, and nearly falls to the floor anyway! But he catches himself!
And then a large, cold hand wraps around his arm to steady him. Itâs the cold that keeps him from lashing out and probably breaking his own hand. Instead, he looks up, heart still pounding in his ears, into the frowning face of Mobei-Jun.
âOh, you have the worst timing,â Shang Qinghua breathes.
Mobei-Junâs expression twitches and he lets go.
âNo!â Shang Qinghua chases the hand with his own, catching it before the man can get too far. âMy king, Iâm so glad to see you! Thank you for finally coming! I have so much to say,â he says quickly. âI-â
Before he realizes that heâs essentially holding Mobei-Junâs hand for no reason now - ah, now thatâs something he never would have dared to do like twenty years ago - and carefully drops it. He takes a deep breath, trying to calm the panic still racing through his veins. And then promptly realizes that Mobei-Jun is here. The demon lord is here in this secret basement.
-Â
AN: Moshang in this fic is... hmmm... a little weird sometimes, because a lot of it has been happening in the background. A lot of it has been unspoken until Shang Qinghuaâs breakdown and until now.Â
Shang Qinghua isnât actually as scared of Mobei-Jun in this fic as he is in SVSSS, and I hope that comes across. When he had his breakdown, part of it was fear, but a large part of it was also actually anger. Shang Qinghua was afraid of how the System had changed his life, but he was also angry about this loss of control. Yes, he was terrified of Mobei-Jun because he didnât know if it was still his Mobei-Jun, which brought lots of old memories and old anger to the surface, in which Shang Qinghua was kind of like, âHow dare you think you get to freely touch me after the things you did and never apologized for?âÂ
BUT the status quo in this world, before the World Update, is one in which Mobei-Jun touches Shang Qinghuaâs hip without SQH flinching. Itâs one in which SQH and MBJ drink and relax together. Itâs one in which SQH isnât afraid to reach out and grab MBJâs hand, because he misses MBJ.Â
Theyâre so close, they just need to actually talk it out.Â
-Â
Shang Qinghua glances at the ladder and the open hole in the floor. âAh, my king, did you⊠climb down here looking for me?â
âYes,â Mobei-Jun answers, looking around with sharp eyes. He doesnât seem to be very impressed with what heâs seeing. â...What is this place?â
âMy, ah, my basement,â Shang Qinghua answers, leaving out the part where he didnât even know he had one until about an hour ago. The System is determined to make him look like a bit of a madman, huh? âItâs just⊠just some artifacts and tools. I donât⊠I donât really come down here a lotâŠâ
Mobei-Jun finishes studying the room, then stares at him again, his gaze more piercing than ever.
âThe future concerns you this much?â he says.
Shang Qinghua is totally prepared to deny everything, but the phrasing of that cuts off every story he might try to tell. He glances around the room, full of these broken, desperate, stolen things. Itâs⊠reflecting.
â...Yes,â he admits, hoarsely. Then coughs. âI⊠my king, we should⊠talk.â
âYes,â Mobei-Jun agrees.
âBut, ah, not here? I donât⊠like it here.â
âYes.â
-
AN: Mobei-Jun is one of the people who has noticed that Shang Qinghua knows more than he should. And now, thanks to this secret basement, Mobei-Jun has an explanation for why Shang Qinghua knows more than he should!Â
If you donât know about the System element, then this basement is actually pretty in-character for the new Shang Qinghua of PINTWILF.Â
He is so scared of the future. Heâs invested in the story now.Â
-Â
Shang Qinghua isnât surprised at all when the special item speaks again as soon as itâs back in his hand.
Why would it shut up now, after all?
 âHe has no name but the position he has been promised to, which he may not live to see,â the Weeperâs Eye says, which pulls Shang Qinghuaâs gaze back to the demon lord waiting for him. âHis father uses him as a tool. His mother is long departed. His uncle wants him dead. He has long known that these broken promises cannot be undone⊠but he knows new promises may yet be made.â
Mobei-Jun is frowning at the crystal eye in Shang Qinghuaâs hand, looking between it and Shang Qinghuaâs own eyes.
Heâs not dressed-up the same way he was the last time Shang Qinghua saw him - no especially fancy robes or ornaments or jewelry. He looks like himself this time. Â
 âIf these ones are not kept, there will be nothing for the nameless man who will be king.â
Shang Qinghua doesnât move.
-Â
AN: I mentioned exploring Mobei-Jun not having a name in the commentary on the previous chapter. I guess thatâs my take on PIDW Mobei-Jun... that the man doesnât really have anything outside of his position. Heâs a king, in service to a tyrant, and heâs never going to let anyone in. Heâs just... cold... the whole way through. PIDW Mobei-Jun has an icy throne and nothing else.Â
PINTWILF (and SVSSS) Mobei-Jun has the Airplane version of Shang Qinghua. When Airplane saved MBJâs life, the System wasnât making him do it, he made that choice for himself. The System was willing to let MBJ die (and, in my headcanon, be replaced by some ice demon cousin or LGJ). So, MBJ turns around and chooses Shang Qinghua for himself.Â
Shang Qinghua was like, âNo! This character canât be replaced! You canât just dress someone else up as Mobei-Jun! You canât just let the character die! It has to be this man in that role! No one else!âÂ
When Mobei-Jun is coming to talk to Shang Qinghua in this fic, in this moment, he is making this choice for himself, the nameless man who has been promised a position he might not live to see. Thatâs what the Weeperâs Eye is getting at. If Shang Qinghua doesnât want to hear the promises Mobei-Jun is will to make him, there might as well not be anything in Mobei-Junâs future to make him an individual, more than a cold figure acting out a part.Â
-Â
â...Shang Qinghua,â Mobei-Jun says finally. âI will not hurt you.â
Shang Qinghuaâs gaze snaps from the crystal eye in his hand, back to the demon lord standing by the exit to this secret basement.
âWe will speak,â Mobei-Jun says solemnly, slowly, like someone repeating the lines of a script. âI wish to be understood by you. I have not known how. Yet I must try now⊠in my own words⊠and you must listen.â
Shang Qinghua swallows.
The anger - the frustration - breaking through at the end there sounds more like the man he knows. Heâs pretty sure thatâs meant to be a request, but it sounds like an order.
-
AN: After their last conversation, Mobei-Jun had a lot of soul-searching to do, and one of the conclusions he came to is that he canât take anything for granted. He has to made explicitly clear, using words, which is apparently what matters with humans and with this human in particular, everything he feels. He canât take the risk of continuing to hurt Shang Qinghua by letting the man think that he doesnât regret hurting him or may hurt him again someday.Â
-
He puts the Weeperâs Eye down.
Heâs really sick of this thing. He doesn't want to carry it around all the time.
It only tells him things he knows, anyway.
-Â
AN: Weâll get into the Weeperâs Eye in future chapters, but itâs... itâs not really a mind-reading device. It kind of is. It is a little bit. But part of the reason itâs so informative here is that Shang Qinghua is holding it and Shang Qinghua actually knows a lot about his characters and the people in his life.Â
Even the original characters, like Fanli, he knows well. Sheâs his family. Heâs privy to Fanliâs problems through Jiahui and Liu Qingge if nothing else.Â
With Shen Yuan, he doesnât know the kid well yet, but his fellow transmigrator isnât that difficult to read and heâs been where Shen Yuan is.Â
Shang Qinghua putting the Weeperâs Eye down here is a show of trust of sorts. Itâs a way of telling himself to get out of his own head, away from character roles and exaggerated panic, and put himself in the moment with someone he knows and... well... trusts and wants to trust even more.Â
-Â
Shang Qinghua follows Mobei-Jun out of the basement, removing the spiritual seal from the wall, which makes the creepy basement entrance disappear, then replacing the flower that covered it. He hesitantly follows the demon lord back to the main room of his Leisure House. He has no idea how to stand, suddenly, or where to stand.
Mobei-Jun looks very determined.
âSo, ah, should we⊠sit?â
âNo,â Mobei-Jun replies, then abruptly says, âShang Qinghua, you do not have to fear me. I do not wish to cause you any pain. Now or in the future.â
Shang Qinghua stares, wide-eyed.
Thatâs not⊠something he ever expected to hear explicitly.
Good! It's good, though! Very good.
It's great, really.
â...Thank you,â he says, stunned. âI donât want to cause you pain either?â
âYou have shown as much. Many times.â
This is probably not the time for an âYes, I did tell you soâ in any form!
Instead, trying to remember all the speeches he prepared while waiting, Shang Qinghua says, âYou have too! In your own way! I just⊠my king, last time you visited was a⊠it was a very bad day for me. I apologize for my behavior! I was speaking from a place of-â
âFear,â Mobei-Jun interrupts darkly. âWell-deserved.â
âAh, wellâŠâ
âYou believed that I would hurt you, in your state,â Mobei-Jun says.
âI was⊠it was very a bad and confused state, my king.â
â...You do not trust me.â
Shang Qinghuaâs voice dries up on him. He wouldnât put it that way, exactly! That sounds pretty terrible when said in such a blunt way. Theyâve moved past that, havenât they? Itâs more that he trusts different people with different things! He trusts Luo Jiahui to be Luo Jiahui, and Liu Qingge to be Liu Qingge, and Mobei-Jun⊠to be Mobei-Jun.
-Â
AN: Shang Qinghua and Mobei-Jun got really far without explicitly talking about things, but at some point that stopped cutting it.Â
-Â
âI have hurt you before,â Mobei-Jun says, looking at him directly. âFrom a place of fear⊠of anger⊠of⊠misunderstanding. I am⊠sorry for this. I will not do so again. I was wrong to treat you in such a way.â
Shang Qinghua takes in a deep breath⊠and out again.
Fuck, it feels like his eyes are burning.
âYou have my respect,â Mobei-Jun says quietly, urgently, not letting up on getting all of these words out into the open. âYou have my regard. You have my trust. Yet I have not shown this in a way that you have understood, so you could not share this. I have demanded your loyalty without being deserving of it.â
âMy king,â Shang Qinghua protests, taking a step forward. âI was- I should have said-â
âYou did. Many times. In many ways. I did not understand.â
âI wasnât very clear either-â
âIt was my responsibility to be clear. I must be clear now.â
âYouâre being very clear now,â Shang Qinghua agrees quickly. If things get any clearer here, if any more of the things theyâve left unspoken get said, his heart wonât be able to take it. âThank you, my king. It means- thank you."
Mobei-Jun nods. He looks relieved.
-
AN: I wanted to write a version of Moshang that felt... a little more mature? Shang Qinghua has developed a lot in this fic. He has grown as a person. And Mobei-Jun has seen this growth over the years.Â
Mobei-Jun has also been able to see into this Shang Qinghua in a way that wasnât available in SVSSS canon. I think that SVSSS Shang Qinghua was locked the fuck down. I think he was almost completely inaccessible and offered very, very few openings for connection.Â
But in this universe, Mobei-Jun actually knows a lot more about Shang Qinghua. He knows what motivates Shang Qinghua. He knows that Shang Qinghua is a doting uncle and a doting older brother. He knows that Shang Qinghua has come to care for his sect. He knows that Shang Qinghua is intelligent and resourceful and funny. They drink together and talk politics! Mobei-Jun knows that Shang Qinghua is loyal and tired and trustworthy.Â
So... there was an opening here that didnât exist in SVSSS canon.Â
And Mobei-Jun took it.Â
-Â
Shang Qinghua knows that cultural differences are a hell of a thing here, but everything being understandable in hindsight didn't make it not fucking hurt. It still hurts, even finally having the apology he never thought he'd get.
"...Weâve been pretty bad at understanding each other, huh?â
âIt has often seemed as though we were not meant to meet,â the demon lord says softly.
Shang Qinghua, who can't imagine getting through his transmigration experience without meeting this man, thinks over all the unknowing irony in that statement.
"...Maybe."
âThe differences are⊠significant.â
Shang Qinghua laughs, almost disbelieving. âThatâs a word for it!â
"But not impassable."
"Ah⊠I⊠hope not."
-Â
AN: Iâll probably make a separate post for this, but I love Moshang transmigrator reveals. Bingqiu transmigrator reveals are mostly about the Abyss, which is great, because that needs clearing up. MOSHANG transmigrator reveals are like, âMy weak human husband is a god???âÂ
Also love it when MBJ is like, âYes, this makes sense.âÂ
-Â
âI have never known what you have wanted from me,â Mobei-Jun says next, like a confession. âYour life, you have said, time and time again. Though I am only alive by your grace. You demand none of what you deserve of me.â
â...I donât think âdeserveâ is a good word for this,â Shang Qinghua says, which probably isnât the right thing to say, but heâs really too stunned to come up with anything better. He really didnât prepare for the right conversation here. âAha, sorry, my king. Itâs just⊠I donât think I like to think about it in terms of âowingâ anymore. Between us. At least⊠not like some sort of strict balance? I do something nice for you, you owe me. You do something bad to me, I get to hurt you. Not⊠not like that.â
Mobei-Jun thinks about it.
âSorry, I donât really know what Iâm saying-â
âYou are deserving of better than what I have given you,â Mobei-Jun insists, determinedly. âI do not understand you. I have never understood you.â
Shang Qinghua feels the same way.
âBut I would like to,â Mobei-Jun says next. âI would if you would allow it.â
-Â
AN: Mobei-Jun is only alive because Shang Qinghua saved him and he knows it! And Shang Qinghua has never made the demands he should have made, having that kind of leverage over Mobei-Jun!Â
Iâve always wondered if this is deeply romantic by demon standards. Like, not inherently romantic. But I would bet that Mobei-Jun really likes the idea of a relationship where no one is keeping score... no one is granting favors to use like a leash of obligation... no one owes the other things they donât want to give. I would bet that Mobei-Jun really, really likes the idea of a relationship where affection is freely given because the people in it want to give it.Â
He does feel as though he owes Shang Qinghua, but I think Mobei-Jun likes the idea that his favor is his to give just because he wants to give it.Â
-
Mobei-Jun lifts a hand, slowly, and holds it out.
Shang Qinghua thinks about it.
He thinks about it again.
He reaches back and puts his hand in Mobei-Junâs own, which is as cool to the touch as always, and moves over his skin carefully. His hold is so light that Shang Qinghua could break it without any issue at all.
They stay there, like that, looking at each other.
Looking at their hands, holding without hurting, after everything. It's such a small gesture.
It feels kind of like a miracle.
-
AN: I am... a huge fucking sucker for Mobei-Jun holding Shang Qinghua waaaaay too lightly because he wonât risk hurting Shang Qinghua again. Like, this man is going to take it from the top. No more assumptions.Â
-Â
âWhat do you want, Shang Qinghua?â Mobei-Jun says, voice turning up at the end, in the closest thing that the man might ever come to helplessness. âWhat do you want from this?â
âIâŠâ Shang Qinghua wipes at his burning eyes with his free hand. This is kind of pitiful. âFuck.â
Mobei-Jun lifts his free hand and uses his own sleeve to wipe at Shang Qinghuaâs tears, like his robes arenât important to him at all. âAsk,â the man says, in the tone of a promise. âYou do not have to fear the future. Anything I have to give is yours.â
Shang Qinghua gives up on trying to speak and just moves forward to bury his face in Mobei-Junâs chest. Fuck it. The demon lord who was supposed to kill his character lets him do it. Mobei-Jun holds on to him, arms heavy but still so careful, the manâs chest moving in a sigh that sounds like relief.
This really was too many unspoken things to finally say aloud all at once.
-Â
AN: So, yeah! Thatâs what Iâm been building up to with the Jiahui/Qingge marriage and the Qijiu fights and makeup, getting Shang Qinghua to think about what he wants from his relationship with Mobei-Jun. Luo Jiahui and Shen Qingqiu have basically been throwing the question at him repeatedly: âWhat do you want from this life, Shang Qinghua?âÂ
Because it canât all be plot! Youâve taken your family for yourself, but you can have more than that! Youâve made so many choices already... you can take this last step and make this choice too. Let Mobei-Jun in.Â
A lot of Moshang plots end up being âShang Qinghuaâs inability to communicate versus Mobei-Junâs inability to communicateâ. Which is great! Thatâs Moshang! And some external issue (a rival demon lord, Linguang-Jun, etc.) will end up being the secondary plot which acts as a scenario pusher for the primary plot of the Moshang relationship. Again, great stuff!Â
But since the romance isnât the focus of this fic, I decided it would be fun to have a more âShang Qinghua and Mobei-Jun versus the problemâ take. (Which also shows up in lots of Moshang fics! Definitely not exclusive to this fic at all!) Iâm looking forward to having Shang Qinghua and Mobei-Jun actually try and tackle problems together, as a couple, inside the main âFamily of Choiceâ plot.Â
Which isnât to say that Moshang have totally worked out their relationship here. They have only just gotten together. Mobei-Jun still has issues. Shang Qinghua still has many issues. Theyâve got a lot to work out together. Theyâve never been in a relationship like this before and thereâs a lot of people out there who would object to their relationship! Their relationship is going to continue to grow as the fic continues. Theyâre going to have a few bumps in the road.Â
But I really like the idea of Mobei-Jun being Shang Qinghuaâs rock in this fic. This man has been so stressed. He needs a hug from his ice demon boyfriend who can soothe headaches with a hand.Â
-
When Shang Qinghua feels like he has himself more under control, he draws back just far enough to say, âMy king, will you kiss me?â
Mobei-Junâs expression is already soft, at least by his standards. His gaze turns hooded before he leans down as Shang Qinghua leans up. Shang Qinghua takes the manâs face between his hands to kiss him. It feels nice, if uncertain, with the hunger of something a long time coming at the end of it. There's years worth of wanting in this.
It has been so fucking long since Shang Qinghua kissed anyone.
He breaks the kiss and has to stifle laughter, clinging to the front of Mobei-Junâs robes, which the man never closes properly, so now Shang Qinghua is never going to be able to not thinking about touching it. Itâs a very nice chest to touch. He knew it would be.
Mobei-Junâs brow furrows slightly, his hands staying on Shang Qinghuaâs hips.
âWhat?â
Ah, sorry! Sorry, my king! Itâs just- this is such a ridiculous detail to get stuck on, but your lips are kind of cold? Iâve, ah, Iâve always kind of wondered,â Shang Qinghua confesses quietly, without really meaning to actually say it. Holy shit, heâs going to blame saying something like this after that on the fact that heâs had a very long and very weird day. âSorry. I'm really tired. It's fine. It's good.â
Mobei-Jun snorts and kisses him again, as if to say, âDeal with it.â
-Â
AN: Cute! Mobei-Jun likes it when Shang Qinghua laughs. I stand by this.
Chapter 29: âThe Ringing Bellsâ of âpride is not the word Iâm looking forâ quotes and commentary. Not a full list of favorite quotes or full commentary.
-
Itâs just been him, Yue Qingyuan, and the not-so-modest Qiong Ding entourage befitting Cang Qiong Mountain Sectâs leader. Shang Qinghua and Yue Qingyuan still havenât talked about anything personal (Shang Qinghua kind of hopes they never will!), but putting up a united front and then putting up with other sects seems to have brought them closer together again.
If Shang Qinghua had given in to his idea of bringing a flask of emergency wine in his sleeve, they could have made a drinking game or something every time someone managed to âcasuallyâ mention that Zhao Hua Temple Sectâs barrier techniques were the best in the world. With that face Yue Qingyuan made after the third, ear-gouging hour of listening to a long line of Zhao Hua experts condescend to them about security measures that will surely stop invading demons in their tracks, Shang Qinghua would have bet the man could have been talked into it. Big Bro would have been down, heâs sure.
-
AN: There is something immensely amusing to me that Yue Qingyuan and Shang Qinghua of all people run this sect (like, sure, SQQ and WQW and the other peak lords do stuff too, but YQY and SQH seem to be the ones who actually deal with worldly affairs and interact with people). To me, they both have such âI donât want to be hereâ energy. YQY would rather be thinking about his slow reconciliation with Shen Qingqiu, and SQH would rather be daydreaming about the sexy ice demon heâs been betraying the sect for for 20 years.Â
But nooo, they have to be responsible.Â
Yue Qingyuan nearly dying at the end of SVSSS to me had such... vibes of relief? This man is carrying SO MUCH stress over his position and his responsibilities and appearances, that his reaction to dying seems to be at least a little bit: âOh, time to put everything down. I can give up. I donât have to be the invincible sect leader above it all anymore. Thank goodness.â You can fit so much trauma and unhealthy ideation in this man!Â
Which is, I think, why this connection between SQH and YQY was a little inevitable in this story. Theyâre both carrying so much stress and trauma, and doing their best to not let anyone see it, so they really relate to each other but... in a way thatâs kind of one-sided on both parts? Because SQH isnât supposed to know shit about YQYâs past or pressures. And YQY doesnât have the full picture of what SQH is dealing with at all. After their fight after SQQ died and SQH coming forward about their invasion, SQH and YQY are finally getting to have some more direct connection, but neither of them are willing to put their masks down yet. It goes against their natures and their perceived duties (as sect leader and a transmigrator/traitor) to honestly confide in each other.Â
YQY and SQH both kind of have a âI know better than youâ thing going on here. Yue Qingyuan because heâs the sect leader and heâs been taught that he has to manage himself and everyone else. Shang Qinghua because heâs a transmigrator and also... the fallen creator god of this world?Â
-Â
Yue Qingyuan is apparently just as eager to make it home as Shang Qinghua is. Their travel pace puts them a full day ahead of schedule, and Yue Qingyuan courteously sends his youngest personal assistant ahead via flying sword to warn the sect.
âShen-Shixiong and Wei-Shixiong will need time to hide the mess from all the parties theyâve been throwing in our absence,â Shang Qinghua jokes.
Yue Qingyuan looks at him with polite but concerned bemusement.
âAha, never mind, Iâll just⊠go check the last report my head disciples sent me again.â
None of them are expecting the assistant, who flew off with all the energy and eagerness of youth, to return only a little over an hour later. The assistant is red in the face and panting for breath. He collapses in front of Yue Qingyuan.
âShizun, I-! I turned back as soon as I saw- in the distance-! The sect was on fire! Qiong Ding Peak was on fire!â
Yue Qingyuan and Shang Qinghua exchange a look of shock. When Shang Qinghua joked at the beginning of their journey that the sect would probably set itself on fire without them there to do damage control, he really was only joking! Heâs had way too much of the shit he says coming true on him!
-
AN: I donât think Iâve mentioned this yet, but Yue Qingyuanâs youngest assistant is the kid that Shen Qingqiu shoved on him from the House of Rejuvenation mess. Qi Qingqi and Liu Qingge picked up Luo Fanli from that, Shen Qingqiu picked up Fu Qiang from that, and Yue Qingyuan got this kid.Â
He doesnât have a name yet, but heâll probably get one at some point. Probably in Part 4 when Shen Yuan and Fu Qiangâs story comes to the forefront.Â
-
âShishu!â
Shang Qinghua turns and gets an armful of nephew. Bingheâs arms wrap around him with no care for the bandage around one of them and Bingheâs warm face is buried into his neck - heâs so tall now - to share his dirt stains.
Shang Qinghua has no idea what to do. He wants to hug his very huggable nephew, of course, but in front of so many people?! He canât just shove Binghe away either! Luckily, Binghe seems to realize his mistake about two seconds after contact and launches away from Shang Qinghua, bowing deeply enough to hide his face completely.
âApologies for tripping, Shishu!â
Shang Qinghua nearly laughs. âAh, ah, itâs fine. Itâs fine.â
This is probably one of the worst kept secrets in the sect, anyway.
-
AN: This is absolutely a reference to Binghe pulling this trick in SVSSS canon, only unlike SY, Shang Qinghua recognizes the excuse.Â
-
Luo Binghe clears his throat and intervenes before his friend can accidentally kill Shang Qinghua with kindness or something. âThe demon saintess Sha Hualing and her followers attacked.â
âOh,â Shang Qinghua says, relaxing a little.
 âIs that all?â he thinks. âPhew! Earlier than I was expecting, but okay!â
-
AN: Itâs very funny to me to have CQMS going, âDemon attack! Demon attack! Totally unexpected demon attack!â And Shang Qinghua going, âShit, I think I put that down on my calendar wrong. Did I put that down on my calendar...?âÂ
-
This apparently prompted Liu Mingyan and Luo Fanli to volunteer at the same time.
âThey looked like they were going to argue over it, at first, or even fight over it,â Luo Binghe says. âQi-Shigu and Liu-Shishu didnât seem to want to let them fight, but they just ignored them and almost started a quick hand-game over who would get to fight. And then the demoness said⊠she said⊠she...â
âWhat?â Shang Qinghua asks.
Ning Yingying lifts her nose to the sky and declares, âShe said: âIf I get a say in this, I want to fight the pretty one in the veil, and not the old lady!â So rude!â
â...Ah,â Shang Qinghua says again.
That explains the awkward grimace Binghe is making right now.
âLiu-Shijie and Luo-Shijie froze, then Luo-Shijie just looked at Shizun and Qi-Shigu and Liu-Shishu,â Ning Yingying continues. â Snap! And then it was really quiet. And then Shizun said, âIâll allow it.â And Qi-Shigu and Liu-Shishu and even Liu-Shijie didnât say anything.â
âOf course not! Shizun outranks them,â Ming Fan says.
As though that has ever honestly mattered to Liu Qingge or Qi Qingqi.
âSo she got to fight the demoness,â Luo Binghe says, like it was a foregone conclusion that his stubborn auntie would get what she wanted. Whoâs surprised about this? Not this long-suffering nephew!
-
AN: So, Sha Hualing made the âold ladyâ joke in front of 1) Qi Qingqi, Luo Fanliâs teacher who knows about her studentâs past with the House of Rejuvenation, 2) Liu Mingyan, Luo Fanliâs friend who either knows about it or recognizes that LFL is touchy about her age, 3) Liu Qingge, LFLâs brother-in-law who also knows, and 4) Shen Qingqiu, who was THERE and thatâs how they met.Â
So, thereâs sort of a collective, âIf we donât let Luo Fanli try to beat the shit out of this demon girl, we will never hear the fucking end of it,â here.Â
Also, as soon as I made Luo Fanli into Liu Qinggeâs apprentice of sorts, there was no way that she was NOT going to want to fight Sha Hualing, and it seemed a good way to shake things up from canon while also doing some stuff with the Fanli & Binghe relationship. Iâm really trying to breathe new life into all the scenes that Iâm redoing from SVSSS.Â
-
âShe kicked that demonessâ ass!â Ning Yingying squeals. Â
âNing Yingying!â Ming Fan hisses.
Shang Qinghua snorts. âOh? Really?â
âIt was rough,â Luo Binghe says, while Ning Yingying and Ming Fan both turn bright red realizing what she just said in front of a Peak Lord. Binghe, however, has totally heard Shang Qinghua say way worse than that. âThe demoness was really good and really mean, and she kept getting up even after she got slammed into the ground, but eventually she got pinned and had to forfeit to keep her head. Fanli is still mostly in one piece. Sheâs over there right now with Mu-Shishu and Liu-Shishu.â
Shang Qinghua follows his nephewâs finger, then winces. His little sister-in-law looks pretty roughed up, her face is beginning to swell and sheâs got a lot of claw marks, but sheâs grinning up at Liu Qingge. Liu Qingge looks totally fine, besides some flecks of blood that must belong to other people, and is smiling down at her.
Mu Qingfang looks less than enthusiastic about all this as he treats Luo Fanliâs injuries of victory.
Aha, yeah, Liu Qingge is definitely the one explaining this to Luo Jiahui later.
-
AN: I really like building and having built up all these relationships. I like giving Binghe friends, even if theyâre friends that he kind of runs rings around given his manipulative tendencies (NYY and MF rely on just grabbing him at this point and relying on sheer force of obliviousness/authority). I like giving Liu Qingge more connections in the form of Luo Fanli and Mu Qingfang too.Â
This cast is... so big at this point. I didnât really expect this when I started.Â
-
Inside the cell is⊠a bloody demon girl who looks about fifteen-ish (sixteen-ish, maybe?), with dark hair in many braids, a sharp face and a sharper stare, and clothing that looks like it was made out of not nearly enough silk ribbons. Ah, wow, thatâs way more skin than Shang Qinghua ever wanted to see of Sha Hualing. No jewelry at all, though, not even a belt. Not even boots or even slippers. Just lots of blood splatter.
Both Sha Hualingâs arms and legs have been restrained. Sheâs also been muzzled, though that doesnât stop her from showing off her teeth in the least happy-looking smile anyone has ever smiled. Thereâs blood in Sha Hualingâs teeth! Thatâs blood there smeared around her mouth!
Qi Qingqi is in the cell too, utterly unimpressed, making sure that Sha Hualing is properly restrained and even treating an injury on the girlâs thigh. Demons are pretty tough, Sha Hualing would probably be fine, but Shang Qinghua supposes they can at least be a little kind toward the poor disciple whoâll have to mop the floors here later.
âSo good of you to finally join us,â Shen Qingqiu says to Shang Qinghua. His voice is dry, as usual, but it might be missing its worst sharp edges? The man seems pleased at having caught himself a demon.
âAh, I didnât want to show up the sect leader with my speed,â Shang Qinghua replies.
That gets an amused look from Yue Qingyuan. âLet us speak elsewhere,â he says, politely admonishing everyone to shut up in front of their guest. âQi-Shimei?â
âA moment,â Qi Qingqi says.
âOh, donât leave me all alooone,â Sha Hualing says, only slightly muffled by the muzzle, her eyes going wide and scared. âIâll behave! This is really too much! These restraints are hurting me. Please⊠itâs making it hard for me to breathe, pleaseâŠâ Â
Qi Qingqi ignores her and finishes up her work.
Yue Qingyuan lets the Xian Shu Peak Lord out and then seals the cell behind her. Shang Qinghua is familiar with those seals and yeah, thereâs very little chance Sha Hualing is getting out of there on her own. The demoness complains loudly about being left behind in a cold and lonely cell. Shang Qinghua can still hear her wailing as Yue Qingyuan instructs the guards on, mainly, not letting anyone in and not taking any of Sha Hualingâs bait no matter what lies she tells.
If anyone gets âseducedâ by that teenage girl - a trick pulled many times by the wily Sha Hualing in Proud Immortal Demon Way - Shang Qinghua is going to be so disappointed. Surprised? Not really! But still⊠depressingly disappointed!
-Â
AN: It was... hm... important to me that none of the characters here actually sexualize Sha Hualing or disregard the fact that sheâs very young to them. In his narration, Shang Qinghua mentions her skimpy clothes and the possibility of her seducing a guard, but itâs with the casual detachment of someone who was writing a stallion novel and knows the tropes.Â
I wanted to focus more on the fact that Sha Hualing is not just a âwife characterâ, but an extremely dangerous non-human individual and already a minor political player, if currently trying to play outside her league. Sheâs an enemy. Also, just because she is currently playing outside her league doesnât mean that sheâs not dangerous and shouldnât be taken seriously.Â
All she needs is someone to get close and she will inflict life-long injuries.Â
I also wanted to use her here for some Mobei-Jun stuff, which Iâll talk about later when I get to the Mobei-Jun part.Â
-
âShang-Shidi, do you recognize any of these materials?â Shen Qingqiu asks next, like heâs reading Shang Qinghuaâs mind now! He looks so unimpressed by Shang Qinghuaâs startle. âYou are, after all, one of our experts on tracking down the source of such strange things.â
âAha, off the top of my head? I couldnât say! But⊠I would suspect part of this weapon came from the far north of the Demon Realm...â
Wei Qingwei finally looks up. âI would make the same guess,â he says, like a real bro. âIf only this weapon hadnât broken, we could have tested its limits of disruption! But our plans have been disrupted there⊠Iâd like to see how something like this would go up against the different types of barriers out there.â
âZhao Hua Templeâs barriers, perhaps?â Shen Qingqiu suggests.
Yue Qingyuan audibly sighs.
âOf course, they wonât wish to see proof that there are demon lords preparing to invade,â Shen Qingqiu says icily. âHow remiss of me to forget that fact. What does it matter if a demon lordâs daughter was swinging around a previously unseen weapon like a childâs favorite new toy?â
-
AN: So, when I say that I want to breathe new life into the canon scenes that Iâm redoing and reinterpreting, my goal for this one was to really... build up the upcoming Immortal Alliance Conference and actually connect Sha Hualingâs invasion to... well... anything.Â
In SVSSS, Sha Hualingâs invasion happening is just following PIDW events apparently, and SVSSS in my opinion isnât... really too interested in PIDW worldbuilding or Sha Hualingâs character from the standpoint that this really is a real world now. Itâs all about Shen Yuan reliving the PIDW plot.Â
So, if Iâve put 200,000+ words at this point into actually trying to establish that this is a real world, these are real people, there are real long-lasting politics and sect relations, that world elements arenât just spawning into existence when the plot needs them and exist now, even if Iâve been doing so kind of as a joke because I think itâs funny to make Shang Qinghua deal with that, I wanted to actually try to place and connect Sha Hualingâs invasion to other story elements and place Sha Hualingâs character in relation to the others.Â
Here, Sha Hualingâs invasion is a spoiled and violent child looking to make herself look good and cause trouble, as it is in SVSSS, but here itâs emphasized that Sha Hualing really is 1) a child, 2) a demon lordâs child, and 3) a future demon lord herself. And Sha Hualing is showing off her familyâs inventions in preparation for the Immortal Alliance Conference. This is a move that has consequences for her and for Cang Qiong Mountain Sect, and will continue to have consequences for her (partially indebted to MBJâs clan) and for Cang Qing Mountain Sect (it makes them look bad in front of the other Great Sects).Â
-
âShang-Shidi, do you recognize any of these materials?â Shen Qingqiu asks next, like heâs reading Shang Qinghuaâs mind now! He looks so unimpressed by Shang Qinghuaâs startle. âYou are, after all, one of our experts on tracking down the source of such strange things.â
âAha, off the top of my head? I couldnât say! But⊠I would suspect part of this weapon came from the far north of the Demon Realm...â
Wei Qingwei finally looks up. âI would make the same guess,â he says, like a real bro. âIf only this weapon hadnât broken, we could have tested its limits of disruption! But our plans have been disrupted there⊠Iâd like to see how something like this would go up against the different types of barriers out there.â
âZhao Hua Templeâs barriers, perhaps?â Shen Qingqiu suggests.
Yue Qingyuan audibly sighs.
âOf course, they wonât wish to see proof that there are demon lords preparing to invade,â Shen Qingqiu says icily. âHow remiss of me to forget that fact. What does it matter if a demon lordâs daughter was swinging around a previously unseen weapon like a childâs favorite new toy?â
-
AN: Me to myself:Â â...Is there canonical evidence that Mobei-Jun can read and write???â Because, like, the impression I get from this guy is that he basically raised himself and barely survived, so the System could interpret that to make an AU in which MBJ never learned to read or write.Â
Mobei-Jun can read and write in âpride is not the word Iâm looking forâ, Shang Qinghua is just exaggerating here because heâs a little miffed.Â
But itâs kind of tempting to write an AU now in which SQH realizes early-on in knowing MBJ that... his king canât really read or write... his upbringing was so shitty and his father was so careless that MBJ never learned more than a few words that he picked up from context. Thatâs fucking horrifying. MBJâs poor socialization and communication levels reach new heights!Â
-
âItâs just that something like that happened before, remember, Uncle?â Binghe presses. âWith the skinner demon? That same light and that same warm, almost burning feeling! It was different this time - that weapon wasnât going to hit me, I was blocking it; I know that I was blocking it the right way - but itâs too similar, isnât it?â
âItâs⊠very similar,â Shang Qinghua agrees slowly.
 âSystem?! Bro?! This is your fault!â he thinks. âWhy the fuck are you leaving these explanations to me?! If you take points off me for any of this, you piece of shit, Iâm going to find a way to strangle you, I swear! Preemptively: fuck off!â
Shang Qinghua lets himself visibly think about, trying to figure out what the fuck to say here. Binghe looks up at him like heâs trying to see into Shang Qinghuaâs head to watch his thoughts come together. Itâs a lot of pressure to put on a man all of a sudden! Binghe is too clever to be easily fooled by weak bullshit! How is a man supposed to come up with a decent lie under these circumstances?
âWell, ah, itâs happened when youâve come into contact with demons who are trying to kill you, so it seems like itâs⊠some kind of unique reaction between that demonic energy and your spiritual energy,â Shang Qinghua says finally, because itâs better than explaining that thereâs some shitty, no-good god-like being invested in a predestined plot. âStrange things happen sometimes in life-or-death situations, you know. Cultivators can accidentally pull off great feats sometimes when theyâre desperate or panicked, without knowing how they did it.â
Binghe doesnât look very reassured. Which makes sense, because a long-winded way of saying âI donât know, it sounds like a freak accident to meâ isnât really reassuring.
-
AN: This, plus Sha Hualingâs invasion, is about Shang Qinghuaâs coming up against the consequences of his choices. He canât really have everything at once! Heâs managed to have a lot all at once so far, but the time for Bingheâs demon reveal is coming closer, and Shang Qinghua is going to have to make some tough decisions and live with them. Heâs going to have to deal with the people in his life having opinions on his tough decisions.Â
Shang Qinghua is trying to keep the System happy, with his eyes on the end goal of keeping Binghe out of the Abyss, which makes him unwilling to take certain risks deviating from the plot. But, if youâre looking at it from the perspective of someone who doesnât know about the System or the plot, Shang Qinghuaâs decision-making seems completely illogical.Â
Binghe is too clever not to at least notice that thereâs some bullshit happening here. He doesnât know what his uncle isnât telling him, but Shang Qinghua isnât the greatest bold-faced liar, so he knows thereâs something.Â
-Â
At the end of the day, Shang Qinghua leaves his fellow Peak Lords (Shen Qingqiu, Qi Qingqi, Liu Qingge, and Tang Qingling) arguing in circles over cold trails (Yue Qingyuan is stuck refereeing, poor bastard). He returns to his Leisure House and finds a familiar ice demon lounging in his sitting room, eating some of his snacks.
âMy king, did you help Sha Hualing escape?!â Shang Qinghua demands.
âShe did not contribute,â Mobei-Jun answers.
Mobei-Jun looks good, like breaking in and out of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect last night was no trouble for him. Why would it be any trouble for him? Heâs been doing it for years and years without getting caught, after all!
âHow did you bypass the cellâs seals so cleanly?â Shang Qinghua wonders, as he puts some papers aside and kicks off his boots.
The cell doors hadnât been ripped off its hinges, just⊠taken off like they were never attached⊠which combined with the ice-related injuries on the guards, plus the fact that the intruder slipped in like a shadow and left the same way, kind of gave the whole thing away.
Mobei-Jun raises his eyebrows. âYou have shown me many such protections.â
âAh⊠yeah⊠I guess I did do that.â
-
AN: Presenting Sha Hualing as I did: a dangerous and political figure even though sheâs only a teenager, was also meant to reflect on Shang Qinghuaâs relationship with Mobei-Jun. Mobei-Jun is the enemy. Mobei-Jun may be on Shang Qinghuaâs side and his own side, but he is not on Cang Qiong Mountain Sectâs side and he has loyalties to people in direct opposition to Cang Qiong Mountain Sect.Â
Sha Hualing is, in many ways, Mobei-Junâs people. Heâs completely unfazed by her violence. To him, Sha Hualingâs behavior is normal and expected, if the foolishness and arrogance of someone trying to act grown-up. He is not human. He is from a completely different world to Shang Qinghua.Â
And their separate worlds are now colliding.Â
Shang Qinghua really canât have everything he wants here. Heâs a traitor and, realistically, he canât expect that not to come out sooner or later. Heâs making decisions for the sect (releasing SHL to prevent another demon invasion (and also to keep the plot on track)) that Yue Qingyuan might have agreed with if he knew the full picture of SQHâs spying (all he knows at the moment is that SQH has informants), but that YQY doesnât know about and so canât agree with, so SQH is acting beyond his authority letting MBJ break SHL out.Â
Itâs a mess! Itâs not sustainable! Shang Qinghuaâs old character role and his new character role canât continue to coexist like this.Â
-
Thinking of worrying unnecessarily, desperate to change the subject away from the looming plot, Shang Qinghua brings up the very important subject of Mobei-Jun possibly, maybe, if he has the time, letting him know when to expect him, when heâs going somewhere, and when heâll be back. Heâs brought this up before, though mostly in a âmy king, this humble servant would really appreciate it if you at least learned to knock, but if thatâs too much to ask, itâs fine, itâs really fine, never mind, forget I brought it upâ kind of way.
He only realizes just how daring it sounds after he says it! Heâs always kind of figured that the proud Mobei-Jun would take offense to the concept of being at Shang Qinghuaâs beck and call in any way. Why would Mobei-Jun need to explain himself?
âWhy?â Mobei-Jun even says.
â...Why?â Shang Qinghua repeats, kind of hoping that he wouldn't have to explain the things he asks for. Mobei-Jun said he could ask for things, but he has to explain himself too? That's really too much. âI didnât get to see you at all while I was gone! I got back and I didnât know when Iâd get to see you again, my king.â
This gets him another random pinch to the cheek, but it also gets him another surprising kiss. Mobei-Jun is apparently not even a little bit offended by this request. So itâs fine! This one thing, at least, is really fine.
-
AN: But Mobei-Jun is also becoming one of SQHâs rocks in many ways! This relationship is new and exciting and comforting! Giving up or betraying Mobei-Jun is completely out of the question for Shang Qinghua.Â
Iâm kind of fucking loving these secret forbidden romance vibes.Â
If Shang Qinghua asked, Mobei-Jun would whisk him away from everything right now, but he understands that Shang Qinghua needs to be here for his nephew, his sister-in-laws, and his students. With his father as king, Mobei-Jun doesnât have the position or authority yet to make any kind of peace with CQMS. MBJâs relationship with SQH could get him in deep shit with his father, with his uncle, and with other demon lords.Â
Shang Qinghua is a filthy traitor and heâs dragging MBJ down with him.Â
Chapter 27: âThe First Dayâ of âpride is not the word Iâm looking forâ quotes and commentary. Not a full list of favorite quotes or full commentary.
-
Right now, deep into the safety of darkness, Shang Qinghua thinks about how he never actually expected to be lying in his bed with Mobei-Jun. No, thereâs a reason his sofa is comfortable enough to sleep on! That was by design too! Sure, Shang Qinghua had lots and lots of bed-related fantasies, but he had no expectations of those fantasies ever coming true. He didnât dare to have expectations.
Itâs kind of weird, lying in bed with Mobei-Jun. Itâs definitely weird lying in his bed partially on top of Mobei-Jun. With the way things were headed, Shang Qinghua was admittedly fostering some hopes about those bed-related fantasies, but he still didnât think to mentally prepare himself for the practical details. He really wasnât mentally prepared for the softness of Mobei-Junâs hair, for the thickness and the weight of the manâs arms, or for the coolness of his skin against the warmth of the blankets.
Fuck, now there is no way that Shang Qinghua is going to be able to see Mobei-Jun with a plunging neckline without thinking about touching the manâs bare chest. Itâs a nice chest! It feels great underneath Shang Qinghuaâs hands now.
He can feel a steady heartbeat beneath his fingers.
He can feel the gentle rise and fall of it with the manâs slow breaths, as the manâs eyes have fallen comfortably closed.
Shang Qinghua has never seen Mobei-Jun this relaxed.
-
AN: Moshang in bed together is very good. I loved writing Moshang cuddles. I think itâs really nice when theyâre allowed to be soft and relaxed, and everything is understood between them. Mobei-Jun at this point has learned to treat Shang Qinghua like a particularly anxious cat sometimes - if he just stays still and relaxed, eventually Shang Qinghua will calm down and chill with him.Â
Shout out to Mobei-Jun and all those years he spent trying to get some hint as to how human social everything worked, only to get nearly no help from Shang Qinghua. In this fic, part of the idea is that Shang Qinghua has been a slightly better communicator. Mobei-Jun can be a good listener when he doesnât feel hideously embarrassed over his fuck-ups.Â
-
âI had made plans to speak with you at some point about⊠this,â Mobei-Jun agrees. âBut that was not why I had come to see you that day.â
âAh, what⊠what was it, then?â
Mobei-Jun sighs. âI had come from a gathering of demon lords, hosted by my father at their request. They have loosely agreed to each contribute to an attack on the next conference of human cultivators,â he explains, apparently annoyed at just having to recollect this event. âMy uncle encourages my father to force my involvement. He must have trouble planned⊠or see an opportunity for it.â
Shang Qinghua processes this, then sits bolt upright in bed. âWhat?!â
Mobei-Jun frowns up at him.
âThereâs a demonic alliance to attack the next Immortal Alliance Conference?!â Shang Qinghua demands, leaning over the demon lord beside him.
âYes.â
âAnd you waited to tell me this?!â
âThere are years left before this event,â Mobei-Jun points out.
Shang Qinghua stares at him.
Sure! But he feels like he should start planning now! He already knew that there was going to be a demon attack of some kind - the seal on Luo Bingheâs powers has to be broken - but demon lords getting involved is bad news! Multiple demon lords who are important enough to be socializing with Mobei-Junâs father is worse news! Demon lords potentially including Mobei-Junâs shitty father and shitty uncle is the worst news of all!
âYou should warn your people,â Mobei-Jun says, dryly.
-Â
AN: Mobei-Jun doesnât care about the sects, but he cares that Shang Qinghua cares. Mobei-Jun and Shang Qinghua really are villainous in SVSSS. Shang Qinghua just so happens to sometimes be on the protagonistâs (Shen Yuanâs) side and Shen Yuan has romanced a budding tyrant who has MBJ as a loyal minion. But, oof, I didnât want to go that route with this fic.Â
I mean, I considered it! I considered having Shang Qinghua be forced to bring a demon invasion down on the sect heâs come to care about and his own nephew, but that felt a little too angsty for me. It totally could have been good, I was just like, âI canât handle that.â Plus, with the world update, it felt fitting to jazz things up a little bit - to up the ante by inviting more demon lords and also have a little role reversal by letting Mobei-Jun be the spy. This way, I think, it really feels like Mobei-Jun is on Shang Qinghuaâs side.Â
Shang Qinghua isnât on the demonsâ side. Mobei-Jun isnât really on the humansâ side. But they are on each otherâs side. Theyâre a team!Â
Again, whatâs more romantic than your demon boyfriend actually doing the work of growth on his own? Moshang can be a little rough and with a lot of sharp edges (on both sides, theyâre both kind of mean people) sometimes, so itâs sometimes nice to remember that they can support each other too.Â
Also, Iâve always been kind of curious about what Mobei-Junâs family thinks of his relationship with a human. Mobei-Junâs father is still alive throughout SVSSS, so itâs fun to think about ice demon politics, power and influence and loyalty in that court, and whether that factored at all into Mobei-Junâs extremely slow-moving courting timeline of a human.Â
-
The person at the door knocks a third time, and Shang Qinghua feels the person beside him stir. He can feel a not insignificant amount of weight shifting, a low and unhappy grumble, and cool skin brushing against his own as that person makes to get up. Possibly to handle the person at the door? Shang Qinghua here abruptly remembers many important details about his current situation that make the sect potentially being on fire seem like a not-so-bad emergency.
 âDemon invasion,â Shang Qinghua finds himself thinking. âMobei-Jun. Fuck.â
âNo, no, no! Donât get up! Iâll get it!â Shang Qinghua cries, throwing off tangled blankets and flying out of bed. âIâll handle it, my king! Sorry! Ahhh, sorry! Iâll take care of it, you can just stay where you are-â
Shang Qinghua, now on his feet, pushes firmly down against Mobei-Junâs chest. Heâs not expecting the man - a very, very strong and very, very stubborn demon lord - to go back down under his hand without any resistance at all. This easy obedience, this willingly being pushed down, leads to a surprised Shang Qinghua overbalancing and catching himself hard on Mobei-Junâs chest and shoulders.
As though Shang Qinghua is actually pinning the man down.
Mobei-Jun stares up at him, eyes low-lidded, and raises his eyebrows.
Ah.
Wow.
Shang Qinghua is going to⊠well, heâs going to think about this for the rest of his life, probably.
-
AN: Mobei-Jun is so self-conscious in SVSSS that itâs kind of hilarious. So itâs fun to let him be a little more confident (rather than arrogant and lashing out defensively). Mobei-Jun probably thought to himself here, âYou know whatâll be funny here? If I just go down now.â I feel it in my heart that Mobei-Jun is a teaser, especially when heâs relaxed and happy.Â
-Â
Shang Qinghua takes the time to fix up his appearance a little more - to get rid of the âI slept with a demonâ smell - because if the asshole at his door has kept it up this long, they can wait a little longer. It turns out that he didnât really need to bother, because itâs his fellow transmigrator and most dogged critic, Peerless Cucumber.
âBro,â Shang Qinghua says seriously. âDo you have a deathwish?â
Peerless Cucumber - Shen Yuan, Shang Qinghua has to remember to call the kid by his real name - lowers his hand with a scowl. â...One of your disciples told me to knock on your door and keep knocking until you answered,â the other transmigrator says defensively. âAfter I said you said to meet you in the morning.â
â...Which one?â
âWen Shufen, I think?â
âAh, just for that prank, Sticky Fingers is going to be hauling fertilizer for Long Sheng Peak for a month,â Shang Qinghua says tiredly. âBro, do not believe half the things your martial siblings here tell you. Theyâre pretty much all liars, cheats, and thieves.â
âThen why keep them around?â
âAh, well, sometimes you need someone to lie, cheat, or steal.â
â...Itâs nearly not morning anymore, you know.â
âEh, I guess you get a pass this time, since I did tell you weâd have a nice long talk about things tomorrow morning. Come on in.â
-Â
AN: I donât know if this vibe is coming across, but Shen Yuan feels a little ignored and neglected. They just got back from a mission and Shen Yuan has already been shooed off like twice. Shang Qinghua is so busy. Shang Qinghua is so experienced and so established here. Shen Yuan has latched onto SQH as his lifeline, though heâs trying very, very hard to be independent, and yet Shang Qinghua kind of has SY on the back burner most of the time.Â
Not only is Shang Qinghua the author of this world, but heâs also an important figure in this world. Shang Qinghua really lives here and if the plot wasnât looming over them, SQH would be very happy here. This place feels 100% like Shang Qinghuaâs | Airplaneâs world and brand new transmigrator Shen Yuan feels like an unwanted intruder. SY is still lonely and scared.Â
-Â
â...Are you going to try to activate it now?â Shen Yuan asks.
âHmmm⊠no, not right now,â Shang Qinghua decides, standing up off the dusty stool he was sitting on. âCucumber, bro, Iâm just not awake enough for tackling anything serious right now. Let me get a few texts and tools together first to test this thing properly, alright? Some safety equipment! Aprons and face shields! Thick, fireproof gloves! Iâm still trying to figure out how to safely ask Duan Tianyu what he knows about this map the System apparently made him send me, when he might not even know what the fuck Iâm talking about! Maybe he can give us some hints.â
âWho?â
âOne of my Huan Hua not-disciples,â Shang Qinghua answers. âI picked up some extras a few deadly missions back. Theyâre good kids. All grown up now! Less naĂŻve than they used to be! Duan Tianyu is teaching back at Huan Hua Palace now, so maybe Iâll have to be the one to wander over there on some pretense.â
Shen Yuan agrees that getting as much information as possible is probably the better course of action. Shang Qinghua ushers the kid out of his secret basement and his fellow transmigrator goes easily enough. Shang Qinghua complains about his shitty, no-good System on the way up for forcing them to do all the work by themselves.
âIt must think everything is more âauthenticâ if I donât know what the fuck is going on,â Shang Qinghua suggests, removing his spiritual seal and causing the door to the secret basement to vanish. âAh, Iâll admit thatâs kind of cool to watch.â
-
AN: Throughout this conversation, SY is kind of reaching out, giving himself or Airplane excuses to let him stay. Itâs not that he doesnât want to cultivate, but SQH represents a sort of safety and familiarity SY doesnât have right now.Â
In SVSSS, Airplane was always pretty direct with Shen Yuan, from what I remember, but he wasnât necessarily open. He was direct about some potentially vulnerable or personal topics, like Luo Bingheâs insanity or his own general fear of his characterâs planned death, but thatâs not the same as actually being vulnerable. They snap at each other, theyâre pretty direct about their personal goals, but they donât actually get vulnerable with each other by confessing their personal fears and new relationship developments.Â
So Iâve tried to adopt that here, while making Shang Qinghua a little kinder and slightly more vulnerable, thanks to the efforts of Luo Jiahui. But Shang Qinghua still isnât necessarily open here and neither is Shen Yuan. Heâs just like, âHey, itâs shit and I donât like it either, but what can you do?â Heâs not actually seriously talking about his breakdown or just how scared he is of his own plot.Â
For some people, thereâs a certain kind of openness in confessing things to a stranger, so itâs kind of like that too. Shang Qinghua and Shen Yuan have fallen into kind of familiar dynamics, because thereâs nothing else to really do, and they are kind of acquaintances, but theyâre still not friends yet.Â
I think I want to have SY and SQH actually address this soon. SY feels that SQH has been kind of dropping the ball when it comes to honestly helping his fellow transmigrator, though SY, being SY, canât quite put his finger on the lack of emotional intimacy and affection that heâs starved for right now.Â
-Â
The day-in-day-out of Cang Qiong Mountain Sect canât get him down today! He feels kind of like heâs walking on air! Sure, the work never stops and there are some fucking terrifying things ahead, but he just had a very successful mission overall! He just had a really, really successful conversation with Mobei-Jun! He and Mobei-Jun are romantically entwined and Mobei-Jun was very explicit about the fact that he expects them to be romantically entwined⊠pretty much indefinitely!
âThere is no one else,â Mobei-Jun had said. âThere will be no one else.â
Shang Qinghua fostered a lot of hopes over the years! More hopes than he felt that he should have reasonably fostered! And to have those hopes unexpectedly fulfilled like this is⊠really something! Itâs really, really something! Mobei-Jun really isnât the type of character to say that - to say any of the things he said, and wow, he said a lot of things back there - without meaning it completely.
Shang Qinghua doesnât really know what to do with that.
Forever is a long time.
He understands, of course, that some things really do last an impossibly long time. He used to be pretty certain that all love matches faded eventually - that people were genuinely wildly in love⊠that people were sincerely in love with each other, sure⊠up until they inevitably werenât anymore - but now he canât really imagine Liu Qingge or Luo Jiahui ever getting tired of each other. Liu Qingge keeps bringing Luo Jiahui new recipes to try and rare ingredients to interest her, so she can make dishes for the two of them or her family as a whole, and Shang Qinghua can easily imagine the two of them doing that pretty much indefinitely.
Shang Qinghua canât think about this for long, before he has to focus on greeting his disciples (itâs just Peng Hongpeng and Chen Xuan in here at the moment) and getting to work. âGood things last while they last!â he decides for now, because thinking about things not lasting kind of makes him feel like heâs dying.
-
AN: Shang Qinghua canât quite bring himself to believe in a relationship lasting forever right now. Part of it is his commitment issues, but another part of it is his persisting inability to see past the looming plot. Heâs still worried about Luo Binghe and the Eternal Abyss, so heâs having difficulty seeing past that hurdle, even though things like Luo Jiahuiâs marriage and his new relationship with Mobei-Jun are forcing him to confront the fact that thereâs still a life outside of and beyond the plot.Â
For Shang Qinghua, itâs kind of a âIâll think about that later if we all surviveâ thing when it comes to him and Mobei-Jun.Â
-Â
âHe made a mistake with good intentions and got a small injury for it,â Shang Qinghua says, as reassuringly as he can. âHeâs fine! Heâs in trouble with his shizun for it, though, but Iâll see what I can do about bringing you up to meet him or bringing him down here as soon as possible. Iâll do my best to make it happen!â
Luo Jiahui leans into Shang Qinghuaâs side and admits, âI miss him.â
âHe misses you.â
âI miss you too,â Luo Jiahui adds.
â...Ah, sorry.â
âItâs okay,â his sister-in-law says warmly. âIâd miss you even if you visited every day.â
Shang Qinghua is holding her hands, but it feels like sheâs got an extra one wrapped around his heart. âWhereâs that husband of yours? Doesnât he come down the mountain every day? Should I be telling him off? Sorry I ran off with him for a little bit!â
âWhat does Qingge have to do with you and me?â Luo Jiahui demands. âIt doesnât matter how often I see everyone else, I still miss you and Binghe the most.â
âHm, thatâs a point! Thatâs a point.â
What else can Shang Qinghua do but admit that he misses her the most too?
-
AN: It was fun to follow up Shang Qinghuaâs romantic developments with a return to his most important and longest relationship: the one he has with his âfakeâ sister. Luo Jiahui is and always will be important to Shang Qinghua and who heâs become. They have such a lovely relaxed feeling thatâs nice to revisit. Iâve missed Luo Jiahui these past few chapters, as things get twisted up more and more in sect business.Â
It would feel dishonest to the rest of the fic if Shang Qinghuaâs other relationships disappeared in favor of his new romantic relationship. They all have their own importance. Mobei-Jun and Liu Qingge donât make Shang Qinghua and Luo Jiahui any less important to each other.Â
I am looking forward to making Mobei-Jun and Luo Jiahui meet again, and tackling some of Mobei-Junâs thoughts on Shang Qinghuaâs relationship with his family. Mobei-Jun has a really shitty family, so itâs interesting thinking about what family means to him and how loyalty/love plays into it.Â
-Â
While he's busy plotting around the plot, thereâs a hum of power behind him, the cool whoosh and crackle of a portal opening, the faint hair-rising warning of demonic energy. Shang Qinghua finishes tapping at his own face in thought, looks up at the looming shadow standing behind him, and smiles. He kind of feels like he should run away, but it's too late for that now. He held on long enough that he made it too late for himself.
âHello,â he says.
-Â
AN: I took this almost exactly from the first chapter of Part 3 of this fic. I canât remember the chapter number, but it was the one titled âThe Inevitable Plotâ.Â
Parts 3 and 4 of this fic blend together a little. Part 3 of this fic kind of ends here, but I have a couple more chapters that I want to tackle before I feel that I can say weâre for sure in Part 4? I have some things I want to accomplish before we go into a slight time skip towards the Immortal Alliance Conference.Â
Some random favorite lines (with commentary) of Chapter 22: âThe World Movedâ of âpride is not the word Iâm looking forâ because Iâm doing a re-read. Not a full list or full commentary.
-
AN: I had no idea what to name this chapter at first. I try not to make my chapter titles spoiler-y. This one seemed to nicely invoke the idea of aftershocks, given the blow-ups with both Yue Qingyuan and Mobei-Jun.Â
-Â
 Shang Qinghua is standing in the gardens outside of Qian Cao Peakâs main healing halls, just outside the main healing halls. He has no idea how he got here.Â
 This is fucked up for a number of reasons.Â
 Shang Qinghua isnât the sort of person who ends up in strange locations without remembering how he got there. Sometimes he ends up in strange locations without remembering  why  he went there, sure; sometimes he ends up in strange locations because a hectic day-in-day-out emergency took him on a slippery path with too many stops to keep straight, sure. But heâs not really a  âblack out somewhere and wake up somewhere elseâ  kind of bro. Heâs, at worst, a  âfall asleep in the sitting room and wake up fuzzily in the bedroom, ah, must have woken up at some pointâ kind of person.Â
-Â
AN: Someone asked me if there was any MBJ involvement in âwake up fuzzily in the bedroomâ and... yeah, thatâs kind of what I was going for. I have a great and terrible weakness for soft Moshang moments.Â
-Â
 âYue-Shibo wishes to see you at once,â she says.Â
 âCool.âÂ
 â...Pardon?âÂ
 âOh, ah, I mean, sure. Iâll be there,â Shang Qinghua says, clearing his throat, then clearing his throat again, and getting to his feet. Standing feels like a real accomplishment right now. âWhere is he now?âÂ
-
AN: Shang Qinghua is having a Time. He is having a Time right now. Everyone is lucky that Shang Qinghua didnât just fall back entirely into curse words and slang. Shang Qinghua as a character to me gives off the vibe of someone who can essentially just say things like, âOh, lmao, bro.âÂ
-
 Shang Qinghua registers the sect leaderâs orders to his underlings kind of distantly, caught up in staring at the unconscious other transmigrator.Â
 ă CHARACTER PROFILE UPDATED: Shen Yuan.ă
 Heâs not alone anymore.Â
 Holy shit, he really doesnât know how to feel about this.Â
-
AN: Can you... imagine... spending like 40+ years on another planet, essentially, which has never heard of your world and is missing a great deal of features from your world and canât be talked about at all... and then another person from your world shows up? No one else in this world can understand what youâre going through, mostly because you canât talk about it to anyone else.Â
Wild.Â
-Â
 âThere wasn- there might not have  been  a later!â Shang Qinghua cries in frustration, knowing just how close they came to there not being a later. âWhat âperfect timeâ is there for these kinds of things? It was never not going to hurt him or you! But living like this is worse! You had  nothing stopping you from saying anything you wanted! You have no one telling you how to live your life! Controlling what you can or canât say! At any time, you could have decided you didnât want to live this way anymore and that you didnât want to cause the person you care about any more pain because you were too ashamed to admit your mistakes!âÂ
 Shang Qinghua has no idea how much sway the System has over peopleâs behaviors here, honestly, but heâs thinking not much if any! At least before it pulled another update on him! The System apparently couldnât  make  Shen Qingqiu act like a total scum villain to the protagonist if the man decided he wanted to be more than that - and apparently he did! Just like the System couldnât  make Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky behave like the original Shang Qinghua!
 It had to trick him into âputting the story back on trackâ!Â
 What fucking excuse does Yue Qingyuan have for any of this?Â
-Â
AN: Shang Qinghua is aaaaangry. He didnât want to get involved in any of this. Heâs so envious of Yue Qingyuanâs comparative freedom here. Definitely one of those âI didnât even KNOW how fucking angry I was about thisâ moments.Â
-Â
 âOh, what are you going to do?â Shang Qinghua demands of the man. âFire me?âÂ
 Yue Qingyuan is clearly super unimpressed by this comeback.Â
 Shang Qinghua canât totally believe he just said it.Â
-Â
AN: SVSSS Shang Qinghua didnât get fired somehow.Â
-Â
 Shang Qinghua is so angry he can barely breathe with it. It comes out in the upending of a chair, the overturning of an end table, and then a dish shattering against a wall when the first two arenât satisfying enough. It turns out that seeing the broken ceramic on the floor isnât satisfying either! It doesnât change anything!Â
 Except now the dish is broken. It is so, so much easier to break something than to make anything and Shang Qinghua is ready to scream over it.Â
 Millions of words! Years of his life! Years of  both lives!Â
 Shang Qinghua collapses onto the nearest upright piece of furniture in his sitting room and puts his head in his hands again.  âIs the System finally getting rid of me?â  he thinks, feeling like heâs going to break into a million pieces next maybe. Might just throw himself against the wall next! See how it goes!  âBro, is this it? Have you had enough of my bullshit? Enough of me changing the story? Are you replacing ME not because Iâm too unstable to exist in this world too?âÂ
 Theyâre not good thoughts.Â
 -
AN: This breakdown was SO overdue.Â
-Â
 âShang Qinghua, I am not going to  hurt you,â the man grits out.Â
 He doesnât take another step forward, but the anger in the air sends Shang Qinghua another step backwards anyway! What a statement! What a promise! He laughs, unwillingly and unconvincingly.Â
 âI know, my king, I know!â he lies. âItâs just- itâs- Iâve been having- well, you have before.âÂ
-Â
AN: The key to Moshang in the Airplane Extras is the inevitable outburst and the fact that Airplane just straight-up leaves Mobei-Jun after everything and heâs not wrong to do it. Theyâre so messed up. I love them.Â
-Â
 âMy king, I⊠I need to be alone right now,â Shang Qinghua says hoarsely. âPlease go away.âÂ
 Mobei-Jun still doesn't move.Â
 "Please," Shang Qinghua repeats.Â
-Â
AN: I canât remember what chapter this was or who I said it to, but I said to someone at some point that the key to SQHâs heart is listening to him.Â
-
 âI made some pretty bad mistakes today,â Shang Qinghua confesses to her.Â
 âThatâs okay,â Luo Jiahui says easily.Â
 âOh?âÂ
 âWeâll fix them.âÂ
 âAh, really? Thatâs a relief,â Shang Qinghua says. âIâm so glad I have you.âÂ
 His voice breaks on the last word. He canât hide that.Â
-Â
AN: How much SQH means that last statement hurts in the best way.Â
-Â
 This is⊠this is manageable. Itâs just two new missions and another transmigrator. And then maybe another mission after that. He can handle new and weird missions. He can handle this Peerless Cucumber kid.Â
 This is still his world, isnât it? Even if itâs not his story anymore, he lives here!Â
 He changed everything once! He can change it again if he has to! If the System wants him dead, itâll have to catch him first! And he can do a little grovelling to fix everything he messed up today all by himself. Dignity? What dignity? Pride? What pride? Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky sold those things in another life! Yue Qingyuan and Mobei-Jun will have no choice but to forgive him for everything he said under stress just to get him to shut the fuck up!Â
 Everything is going to be fine.Â
-Â
AN: SQH is like: âOkay, I can do this! I can do this! Just got to keep moving! I can do this if I keep moving! If I stop moving, I die, so keep moving!âÂ
LJH and LQG: âPlease go see a doctor for stress.âÂ
