“Is this the same place you learned Spanish?”

“Duh, where else would I learn French?”

Plagg shook his head, “You failed Spanish miserably. You would have better luck with the internet translators.”

“Do not-” Adrien huffed. Plagg knew exactly how annoyed Adrien got with google translate being the horrible, chaos loving creature he was. “You could have asked me. I would have been happy to teach you. Or Sam. She’s fluent in French as well.”

“Sam scares me.”

“That is valid.”

“And I didn’t ask you cause….” Randy flushed and looked at the floor. “We always use the translators in Paris, and you always speak English over here. I thought it’d be nice if you had someone else speak your native language. Cause you always speak ours.”

That was….really sweet actually. Adrien might have melted a little bit.

“Ugh, that’s so nice of you.” Plagg said, disgruntled. “Ugh.”

Adrien swatted him away. “That’s really great of you, but you said absolute gibberish to me.”

Randy deflated.

“But I’d be happy to teach you some French. If you want to. Since Sam scares you.”

“Really?”

Adrien threw his arm around Randy’s shoulders, “Yeah. It would be a lot more fun with the two of us would it not?”

Randy grinned at him, “That sounds pretty bruce.”

“And I can teach you all the swear words Adrien won’t.” Plagg said.

Why are rain frogs so round? What's /inside/ of them around such an itty bitty skeleton?

So it turns out this is a really interesting question.

The first thing we must be aware of is that rainfrogs as we see them in videos of them squeaking are not quite the same shape as they are when at rest:

But you are quite right, they are very round. This is exemplified by the skeletal photo you refer to:

So what are we seeing?

Well, firstly, note that the body cavity in these frogs actually envelops the femurs, such that only the tibiofibula (fused in frogs) and the tarsals and metatarsals are outside the body. The arms are quite similarly enveloped, but a bit of the humerus does extend outside the body cavity too. This predisposes them to a rounder body shape.

Next, note the ilia - the U-shaped bone in the pelvic region. These in some breviceptid frogs are synostotically fused with the sacrum - that is to say, they are bound by bone-based connections to the bow-shaped vertebra at their tips. This whole joint seems to be quite smooth, and as a consequence, the back of the frog is quite smooth. The other thing we can see here is that the urostyle (i.e. the frog version of a coccyx) juts quite far beyond the ischium and pubis. This extends the body cavity beyond the hips. Note also that the pelvic girdle seems to be largely below the spine, rather than the typical position for frogs behind it and continuous with it. This makes the legs sit below the spine, rather than at its end, enhnacing the vertical roundness of the animal.

Next, let’s talk some soft tissue. Now, I’m not as familiar with soft-tissue in frogs as I am their skeletons, so you’ll have to bear with me a bit (rawr). Beddard (1908!!) studied the soft tissue of Breviceps verrucosus Rapp 1842. It seems that the majority of the body of these frogs is actually muscle. Beddard noted that muscles join the leg at the knee that extend into the body cavity, such that the inclusion of the thigh in the body cavity is further accentuated by musculature. The rectus abdominalis muscle is unusually large, extending from the lower abdomen up and around the sides of the body. Indeed, this large size appears to be the pattern with all of the major muscles, though in the throat the typical arrangement of large and small muscles is somewhat reversed. On the lateral side of the head, there is a substance that is not muscle, but appears to be loose tissue in which sits what is apparently the thymus gland.

There is a very large gap between the end of the urostyle and the anus (one fifth of the total length of the frog), in which there are almost no muscles, save for the one surrounding the lower cloaca. On either side of this area, between the posterior-most muscles of the thigh, lie two large ‘lymph-hearts’, as described by Beddard. These are between one quarter and one third of the total length of the frog. A further lypmh-sac sits between these lymph-hearts and the skin of the femoral region, and they are thus probably analogous to the femoral lymph-sacs of other frogs.

I find it interesting that Beddard (1908) did not mention any glandular formations in the dorsal region. As is evidence from many images (see below), these frogs are able to secrete a white, sticky, noxious substance from their skin (which they actually have to use during amplexus, as the male is too small relative to the female to mount her properly, and so he sticks himself to her with his glandular glue… kinky).

These glands do not apparently take up a great deal of the cutaneous tissue, and so I suppose are of no consequence to the size of the frog, especially relative to its enormous muscles.

The diet of these frogs consists almost exclusively of hymenopterans and isopterans (ants and termites). Neither of these insect groups are particularly fatty, so it is little surprise that their bodies appear to contain no large fat deposits - fatty bodies extend from the gonads up to the lungs and heart, but these comprise only a tiny fraction of the frog’s mass, and don’t contribute to the round shape. Instead, their bodies are extremely muscular, allowing them to be adept burrowers, ideal for their fossorial lifestyle.

So TL;DR: rain frogs are little balls of muscle (maybe the largest muscle mass relative to body mass of any vertebrate? science just doesn’t know).

I wasn’t going to write any “goodbye OUAT” post but ever since the finale there’s this feeling gnawing at me and I need to get it off my chest.

Despite everything, I will miss this show but specifically, I will miss watching Emma and Regina interact on screen. Swan Queen was the first femslash ship I was invested in, the first time the supposedly “straight” me ever rooted for two women to get together, purely because their story was just so organic and no other romance made much sense to me for either of them. And me later joining Swen was the first time I ever found a community where the same-sex attraction was completely normalized. And I will be forever grateful that I did because it completely changed the way I perceived myself.

I’ll always remember the summer holidays two years ago when I would stay up all night and obsessively scroll through SQ blogs, soaking up all the content celebrating two women in love, creating a family, raising a son together, having a healthy relationship that didn’t lack anything just because there wasn’t a man involved. All of this was completely new to me, having grown up in the homophobic environment, where lesbians existed only as sex-obsessed woman-preying marriage-breakers. Love for the fictional characters and seeing the way fandom celebrated them helped me throw these notions completely out the window. And it didn’t take long before I saw myself in some of the jokes and stories people shared about their reality of loving women. It’s because of this crazy fandom and SQ that I realized and accepted my attraction to women and that’s the reason why this ship will always be the most important to me. All these jokes about telling your grandchildren how SQ was the ship of dreams - you bet I will!

It was the ship of dreams not only because it made me and I’m sure some other people as well realize some things about ourselves - but also because it was a part of a fairytale show. Fairytales are all about hope and happy endings - and this show reinforced that many times, in creators’ interviews or in characters’ dialogues. So no one should blame us for, after noticing the blatant subtext, having hope for a happy ending of our own. Emma and Regina were both main characters who shared a son, their character arcs mirrored each other in many ways, their meeting was straight out of a rom-com movie (a child bringing his biological mother to meet his adoptive one), one was the daughter of the other’s arch-nemesis and their relationship and the son they shared were one of the reasons for ending a long-lasting family feud. It would really be a perfect modern fairytale with a huge long lasting impact. It won’t be that easily forgotten.

What gives me hope though and what makes me so proud of being in this fandom, is the fact that there are so many talented writers and other content creators here. I know of 8 published lesbian novels that were originally written as SQ fanfiction and I’m sure there are and definitely will be more. And I’m gonna bet my pinky that when we’ll get a proper representation in some movie or a show coming sometime in the future, there will be some Swen involved in the creating process.

SQ will always be our untold fairytale but it shouldn’t stop us from creating one of our own.

TLDR; I’ll miss new SQ content, all the metas, hoping and our collective screaming, but I’ll remain a part of this fandom probably for the rest of my life because I love it and this ship so damn much. And I needed to gush about it in this completely unnecessarily long-ass post.

Love Per Square Foot (2018)

Love Per Sq Ft, is a feature film which deals with the very common predicaments that faces today's urban youth; finding a house and finding love. Through the course of this romantic comedy we see Sanjay Chaturvedi and Karina D'souza desperately seeking a house, but realising the difference between 'ghar' and 'makaan'.

If you like your romantic comedies, then this is for you. I must admit that I love a good rom com and this one delivered. It’s a cute story and the two leading actors are very likeable and charismatic. I really enjoyed it when his Hindu parents and her Christian mother get involved in their relationship. It was pretty funny. This film left a smile on my face. Check it out.

What inspired your Supernova story?

I asked a few people on Twitter if writing a SQ mermaid AU would (HYPOTHETICALLY) be a good idea, and a lot of people showed interest in it, so I decided to write it! It took me ridiculously long (considering that it's not really That long a fic), like almost half a year, I think? There's, for example, a really early version of the fic where Rumple was the bride, but it didn't really work, and my beta came up with the idea of Zelena as the bride (bless her and everyone else for helping me out!)

Tell us about your writing history:

SQ is the only fandom I've written for! I had participated in SQW writing challenges/prompts before this, but that's it.

What is an interesting fact about your writing style?

I'm pretty uninteresting in that regard, to be honest. Sometimes when I'm about to fall asleep, I get a fic idea, and I just won't be able to fall asleep because I get so excited! I also (sadly) can't really write fiction in my first language because I find it very difficult.

What other stories have you written?

I've written some other SQ stories, and you can find all of them on ao3! I've grown quite fond of "Storybrooke does Star Wars (in four parts! we pretend the other three don't exist)" (and I think I write shorter stories better than longer ones). I love every SQ fic coalitiongirl and amycarey have written! There are so many talented writers in the fandom... I could keep listing fics I love all day.

I'm sure you've probably been asked this before but what would be the ideal way for sq to happen at this point if you could have it happen any way?

i have! and the truth is that i'm really not very particular about it! i’ve talked about it a little here but 100% i’ll take anything...the setup is already there, so there’s not much that really needs to be done on the writers’ part? but if we’re talking...what feels the most organic to me at this point in the series...it would be very easy to take regina’s implied jealousy of hook (see also: “you’re too good for hook”) and solidify it; snow could potentially play a part in this, since she’s been giving regina knowing looks every time she so much as looks at emma for the better part of four years now.

on emma’s side of things, it would make a lot of sense if hook proposed and emma accepted, but the show eventually shed light on the fact that she agreed mainly because she feels that it’s the right thing to do/wants to please her parents/etc. and this would culminate in emma getting cold feet and backing out (to be totally honest, i can see this happening even sans swan queen–and, really, even if hook/emma continues past a terminated proposal; i just do not think emma is in a healthy enough place for marriage to anyone right now). the rest kind of...writes itself. you have your very easy “in” for emma’s coming out arc, and with regina’s pining and jealousy more concretely established, the road to emma/regina would be clear.

ideally, like i said, all of this would be framed through emma’s repression of her sexuality and her fear of disappointing her parents (the latter of which has been so minimally dealt with in canon, when it should have been a focal point of emma’s 4B and 5A arcs, re: dark swan in partic). on regina’s end, robin is back for the next few episodes, and this would be an ideal time to (finally) challenge the “pixie dust soulmate” concept, and explore how important it is for regina to choose her loved ones, given her history with manipulation and abuse by cora/rumple/leopold et al.

basically, what i would do at this point: regina stays by emma’s side in the days leading up to the emma/hook wedding, albeit reluctantly–you’ve got regina forcing her feelings down, and taking them out on hook to avoid confessing them to emma, so that she’s getting testier with him and more strained by the day. snow calls her out on her feelings for emma eventually, and regina denies everything and refuses to intervene in the wedding plans; she pushes herself to meet all of emma’s doubts and insecurities about the wedding with reassurances, even if they sound very halfhearted to her ears (and probably to emma’s, too) and resolves to be The Best Maid Of Honor Ever™ but in the end, emma and hook end up calling it off. the pacing would really depend on...when all of this happened; if it was–by some miracle–not at the very end of the series, there could be time for emma to deal with the implications of all of this, and come to terms with her sexuality (in some cases, relative to her parents), etc. but if we’re on a time crunch, we can do this rom-com style, emma and regina simultaneously racing to track each other down, or henry tricking them into meeting or something...there’s so much potential! and all of it is good and a lot of it is cliche, which is what snow/charming gets on a weekly basis and what emma/regina deserves

Seriously though I feel like “Space Janitor becomes husbands with the King of Daventry” would be the hottest rom-com premise.

You know, I played KQ as a kid, but I was never any good at it. I always remembered it as being quite scary, but watching the Let’s Play videos of it, I now realize that it’s actually a very whimsical and punny series. Also, I now appreciate how attractive Graham is, especially in the fifth game when he’s like... a very handsome older gentleman.

Conversely, I’ve never played the SQ games, but upon watching the Let’s Plays, I feel like I would have loved them.

With all this talking about renewing and contracts I can’t help but wonder what will happen. If we’re going to see Ouat’s ending this year in May or if we’ll have another year of torture. From thinking about it came out a long post. (sorry about that.) More than anything I was wondering about what I’ll do, If I’ll watch the remaining of this serie wether there’s going to be a season 7 or not.

I’ll admit I’m discouraged to watch. After 5x11 I wasn’t able to watch it and enjoy it the same way, it left me bitter and angry and I thought I had lost all hope (I didn’t even watch the remaining of the season), but in the end turns out I didn’t. I was never really able to lose that little sparkle of hope that deep, deep down I feel I still have. A hope that I think will only be really gone after the last episode of the serie. It kinda remerged a bit with last episode, but then when it truly think about it anger prevails, because every past experiences I had with this show and hope and SQ have left me heartbroken and disappointed. I see a lot of incomprehension in the Ouat fandom, like saying Swen want to dictate what story A&E should be telling, and we’re angry because they don’t give us what we want. It’s not like that. I think that a lot of us, or at least I am, are angry because of the way they handled and are handling the story and SQ. I’ll try to explain myself.

I’m not here to say what ship is better, everyone has their preferences and I firmly believe that everyone should be free to ship who they want, because we all see different things, we like different things, we have different experiences, ecc… I have never had any interaction with a CSers or an OQers, I’ve seen the nasty ones and the good ones like in all fandoms, like in ours. I also think, though, that we are misunderstood a lot. Especially that anger is misunderstood. I don’t want to tell A&E what story they should write, my problems with them lay on how they write Emma and Regina’s relationship. All they do is queerbait without admitting it.

If it was never in their intention for us to see a romantic possibility between them, if it was never their intention to tell Emma and Regina’s story as a romantic one, then they shouldn’t have written it that way! The problem is this: they are written as romantic, this way they build hope that makes us watch that every damn time leads to disappointment. Also they say is unintentional. There are a lot of example (feel free to add more, there are so many): From the lines:

To the rom com zoom

To the looks

To the jealousy

To all those damn parallels

All these scenes CAN’T be unintentional. It’s not like in real life where things just happen and we have no control over them. We are in a tv show, where everything is a deliberate choice. You are the creator, you decide what happens, every detail is a choice. YOU are choosing to write them in a way that falls under every definition of True Love that you inserted in the show! It can never be unintentional. All these choices create hope, hope that we’ll finally get our happy ending, too. That we finally get to be canon, too.

What happens every time is that they destroy that hope in favor of ships that are a lot more rushed and with a lot less built up. This is what makes me angry. They keep writing them this way while at the same time they’re programming for H00k to propose. It’s even too late to be having this conversation, because they’ve always written them like this and it would make them OOC to change now.

I constantly see CSers and OQers asking why don’t we just quit the show if we don’t like it and we only have negative things to say. Some of us are here since season 1, others are here since season 5, others since 3, it doesn’t matter really. All of us fell in love with this story, for a reason or another, we fell in love with the characters. It’s a story that changed lives, a lot found new friends because of it, others found love because of it. It’s something that we’ve loved and we still love so much and we can’t just throw it away, at least I can’t.

There’s also the need to realize that we are talking about a wlw fandom, that’s so under represented. There’s not a lot of choice for us to see ourselves in something. And even the good representation that are out there (Maggie and Kara for example) aren’t like SQ (IMO) because of all the history they have together. The built up they’ve created for their story… I can’t think of another wlw ship that has it. At least not one that was canon or has had an happy ending. So, make it look like, for a wlw fandom expecially, that so rarely has had anything, that something could actually happen (because that’s what you did) and then negate that possibility, making them believe they’re seeing things that aren’t there it’s really really cruel. Like Emma said “Not having a happy ending is painful enough, but giving someone unrealistic hope is far worse.”

I think that everyone that’s still active in this fandom still has that little sparkle of hope, and they’ll keep having it because SQ just makes so damn much sense that it seems like nothing else could be endgame. And A&E decided to write it that way. It doesn’t matter that a lot of us know that there’s only going to be disappointment, or to those who can’t even be disappointed anymore a confirmation of what they thought would happen. I don’t think that hope will truly be gone until the last minute of the last episode of the serie.

We’re like the Regina of the fandom (I’ve seen other people do this comparison, and I think they’re right). She has been through so much and almost all her chances at a happy ending lead to misery and loss, but you can see that she still has that little sparkle of hope that one day she’ll finally get her happy ending no matter how many times they make her savor the possibility to just take it away later. (That’s also one of the reason I love her) So I don't think I'll watch, just SQ scene if there are, or unless there are GOOD reasons (that being SQ canon, which I doubt)
