Loid and Yor are going to find out Anya was tortured and experimented on -Loid is going to try and bring it up to his Handler - and Yor is going to go to her boss - and I bet they’re going to find out that somehow both their sides were somehow involved (after being led to believe it was their enemy) and they’re going to end the war through murder of the government and familial love.

So I believe Damian will believe what Anya said after testing it out. I see it happening in either another action arc for the Eden kids where they both need to be silent for them to be safe, but they still have to communicate in a tap your nose for yes strategy. Or in a not as high stakes sport arc for another star, where Anya makes a game winning goal because she hears from Damian the strategy he has in his head that he hopes she hears.

But hey only time will tell.

I adore Spy x Family. I’ve been following it since the first couple of chapters were released. It’s adorable and it can sucker punch you right in your heart’s solar plexus and you will thank it. Chapter 95 came out this morning, and I decided to try my hand at predicting what’s going to happen next chapter.

Spoilers under the cut:

Just some brief context for those who don’t follow it: it’s the end of term school dance, and a good chunk of these first-graders are politically savvy. Anya and Damian have each gathered a number of potential dance partners. Anya would like to dance with Damian to ensure world peace. Damian is a tsundere. Damian’s besties, Emile and Ewen, have decided that the best way to wingman for their bro is to hold their version of The Bachelor. The chapter ends.

Here are Anya’s four potential dance partners. Only one has a name:

Twilight, because of course he is, rates the four boys in terms of potential sources of intelligence. Arnold Crowley is a B tier source, the unspecified Hyatt boy is a C+, and then he notes that the other two boys are B and C tier respectively. If I had to guess, the Hyatt boy is probably the first one to have asked Anya to dance, and I circled him in green. The boy with glasses circled in blue is probably the B tier while the boy with the Naruto grin circled in red is probably the C tier one.

My guess for chapter 96 is that Anya will participate in The Bachelor Jr™️ until one of the first four boys references Bondman, her favorite show in-universe. Little miss “Let me smack the fuck out of the fake bomb that only I know is fake to fuck with Damian, and guess I’ll save everyone using my ESPR powers to my advantage,” has the impulse control of a coked out squirrel running across a busy freeway. She’s probably 5 years old and is the only Eden cast member to routinely act like a child, she would ultimately choose to rave about her favorite show than try her hand at ensuring world peace. My money is that red boy will win. He seems the most on her level of “I’m here for a good time, and to the dismay of these snobs, a long time.”

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter who she chooses, just that Damian feels that it wasn’t him, and Damian will once again pronounce the whole dance as stupid (which sounds right for a 6-7 year old boy) and stalk off. I think Demetrius will reappear (probably sneaking away from the 8th grade dance as many middle schoolers are wont to do) and the two brothers will have a talk of sorts. Twilight, while in disguise, will hang around in the shadows to eavesdrop. The two brothers will talk until Damian mentions their father, to which Demetrius will shut down and storm off again. The chapter will end with Twilight learning that Donovan Desmond is distant to both his sons and question the viability of Plan B: the Friendship Scheme, or maybe Operation Strix as a whole.

When the mission makes you human

Operation strix is by far shown to be the hardest mission that Loid has to do and is yet to accomplish, and this isn't because of the time pressure that he is being put on or even the workload but its because the mission requires for him to be human.

The mission requires Loid to break the intricate cold machine mask that he has built for himself over the years and calls for him to unearth the past he has burnt away.

Sure, Agent Twilight is good at temporary impersonations. He is good at being what people need him to be but only for a short amount of time. However, operation strix requires him to be a father and a husband almost 24/7, and with that, we get more time with the Loid Forger persona unlike any other persona of Twilight and due to that we get to see all the little cracks and imperfections in that mask. We get to see Loid make mistakes, and we get to see him try and fix them, we get to see him learn and we get to see his humanity and vulnerability that he believes he burnt away slowly coming back up filling and fixing the little cracks in the Loid Forger mask.

The Loid Forger persona surprisingly has always been deeply interconnected to Agent Twilight's roots as a character ever since chapter 1.

It is the Loid Forger persona that unearths Agent Twilight's memories as to why he became a spy in the first place. His interactions with Anya unearth his motivations as he so clearlingly sees a bit of himself in anya. His interactions with anya when he is in his loid forger persona is when we see both of these characters connect and parallel each other the most. It's their continuous parallels that we see as the readers that starts to make Loid seem human to us.

As we see, Loid slowly gains back a few memories, and Anya is usually the catalysts to this. The whole reason we got the chapter 62 flashback is because of Anya as she was a catalyst to it.

It is through the Loid Forger persona that we see most of what's left of Redacted come through, and we see how his childhood experiences impact him to adulthood. We see just how much Loid Values friendship and how haunted he really is by it. I think it's interesting that Endo has shown us the progression of Loid's memory and how he is remembering a lot more from his past than he would like to remember.

The progression of Loid's memory going from him not remebering how his friends looked like but knowing that a group of kids on a random street evoke a certain emotion in him in chapter 3 to him clearly remembering his past friends faces in chapter 108 and the uncanny resemblance that jeeves and the other caretakers have that remind him so strongly of the past, of the connections he had and the human identity that he swore he burnt away.

In a world where Agent Twilight wears masks every day and disposes of those masks every day. The mask that is Loid Forger seems to have stuck, its slowly becoming his real identity as agent Twilight the man who burnt away his previous identity and swore to never be more than just a spy, more than just an agent is slowly forging, creating a new mask. A mask that is him, a mask that is so similar to Redacted, and it scares him.

It's something that he doesn't know how or why he is doing but it's a process that is taking place and funnily enough for such an introspective and analytical mam Loid Forger doesn't realise that he is doing this. No, it's actually nightfall that realises this and quickly points it out in chapter 30. She can see it, and the fandom can see it. We have had hints towards agent twilight losing his cool and his true nature emerging. We see this when he gets angry and punches the desk during the Eden academy interview, we see this in every little small and big gesture that he does towards his family lamely justifying it to be for the mission. We see this when he quickly retorts that they shouldn't kill yuri because it would harm the mission.

We see it. We literally joke about it. Everyone is almost aware of it, but Loid isn't, well, that is until he is. The aftermath of the wheeler arc we get conformation that Loid is aware to an extent about his care and he so deeply tries to push it down but for the sake of the mission he can never really destory it. He needs to be human, but at this point, it seems a bit like torture, and we see how the guilt builds up on him whether that be through jeeves saying that he wishes for these children to stay unburdened and we see Loid looking at Anya or whether that be through Loid hesitating to actually shoot yuri because it would hurt yor and Loid himself is shown to really value Yor and Yuri's relationship even from the start.

Tragically, it seems like Loid has trapped himself in something so beautiful so human so delicate and he knows he has to pull away he knows that it's going to end he knows that it's now actively effecting him a man who is supposed to be hardened by war a man who is supposed to do the unspeakable for the greater good now hesitates at merely taking a human life.

At the end of the day, Agent Twilight must abandon what he had forged when the mission is complete he must again burn away that humanity and that identity, but this time it's going to hurt. This time, it will feel like grief, and he knows it.

However, there could be an answer, and I think it's within nightfall character. The wheeler arc seems to introduce nightfall as a direct contrast to Twilight as she is someone whose strengths are highlighted and are even stronger when she is protecting someone that she cares for. Twilight views emotions as weaknesses, but nightfall strength that saved him comes from those emotions, and it's very likely that twilight would come to that same conclusion as he is also someone who is shown and was hinted at being very emotional even when he wasn't supposed to be his conversations with franky show this best.

Now that I think about it...

What if Donovan's ability isn't really like Anya's?

I mean, is it possible for Donovan to read the recent memories of the people around him, of the moments that happened with them in the last few days or weeks?

If it was possible then I couldn't imagine what exactly happened in chapter 106...

Calling it now, I’m making the prediction that Donovan Desmond also has Anya’s mind reading ability. The way Anya was a test subject is still a unresolved plotline unbeknownst to the cast beside Anya. The way that he is extremely paranoid and recently stopped making public/social appearances. The way he has symmetrical scars on both sides of his head. 

The way he is able to work with and around Loid’s introduction. The way that Anya fell asleep right before this entire scene so she couldn’t be there to read his mind confirming that he’s reading Loids mind. 

Loid projects his inner thoughts and actions constantly, Anya takes advantage of this. A spy isn’t much of a threat to a mindreader and Donovan was just standing there as Loid secretly revealed himself.

The only thing is if Donovan does have anya’s ability. Why is Loid able to get out of this encounter scot free and nothing happens after? Is Loid going to be used to accidently uncover all those that work for WISE?

Alternate prediction for the test results. Anya does not get a Stella for best score in classical language, and Damian gets another for History. However! Anya gets a star for most improved because the classical language score boosted her rank more than anyone else. So Anya will still be in Damian’s class, and Loid will be proud. Meanwhile Damian is going to be jealous that Anya will get praise and attention from her father for something his would call a meaningless achievement

Oh uh before the next chapter comes out a prediction:

I believe since Henderson is talking about pretty serious stuff he is talking to an adult about it, so not Damian and his buddies.

Just knowing how most mangas troll their audience, I highly doubt that we’re going to get an identity reveal in the next chapter where Yuri finds out that Loid is Twilight.

But even with that in mind…there’s still a small part of me that can’t help but think about how intense that would be if it actually does happen!

Like, think about it! We know that Yuri has it out for Twilight because he deems that spy a threat to the country and consequently, his sister’s safety. And he has it out for Loid too because of how protective he is of his sister! So if Yuri finds out that Twilight has been undercover as Loid and thus, has simultaneously been directly putting her life at risk and actively deceiving her both about who he is and, as far as he’s aware, how he feels about her to trick her into being in love with him for the mission? He would go apeshit!

But I also think that Yuri would at least take a moment to pause and think about how killing Twilight would affect his sister. Either by his own volition or through Loid pleading with him to stop and think it through. Because while Twilight is actively deceiving his dear sister, as far as he’s aware, Yor loves him. So just like with Anya in the bus hijacking arc, he doesn’t care too much about what happens to Anya for Anya’s sake, but he does care about what happens to Anya for Yor’s sake. He knew that if Yor lost Anya she would be devastated. Because to his knowledge, the love Loid has for Yor is a lie, but the love Yor has for Loid is true and real. So losing Loid would break Yor’s heart, and the last thing Yuri Briar would ever want is to be the cause of his dear sister’s broken heart.

So I think for that reason alone, Yuri might let Twilight go if he found out he was Loid. Not let him get away completely, but I think he would make some sort of a deal to keep his identity a secret from the SSS for however long he feasibly can in order for him to break things off with Yor in a way that hurts her the least, and then he’ll go apeshit on him!

And honestly, I feel like Loid would probably agree to those terms too. Because as much as he tries to deny it and fight it, he does care deeply for Yor and Anya. He dreads what will happen to them once his mission is complete. And he also dreads something terrible befalling them because he’s put their lives at risk by being with them. So I think he would also be more than happy to work with Yuri if it means he can limit the emotional carnage that would befall Yor and Anya by him leaving.

And it’s for that reason, that I think what is likely to happen in the next chapter, is Twilight pulling his punches with Yuri. Because yes, the mission comes first and he has to take out whoever he has to in order to protect his identity to continue Operation Strix. But he does really care about Yor. He knows how close she and Yuri are. They’re each other’s only family. And so losing him would hurt her, badly. And he already knows he’s going to have to hurt her by dismantling their fake family once the mission is over. So if she lost that and Yuri, she would be completely alone and heartbroken. And I think the knowing that, would make him falter or hold back in some way when fighting Yuri.

And I think that when Twilight’s worst fear comes true and he lets his feelings get in the way of the job, he will falter, and leave some sort of a bread crumb behind for Yuri that connects Twilight to Loid.
