My thoughts on the First Wave of Dandy's World Merch

Heads up! This is a long post and sort of a rant post? It's moreso just me sharing my thoughts, so please no negativity if possible ^^'

I'mma just say it right out of the gates...It could've been so much better then what we actually got.

I'm a huge merch collector, from Murder Drones merch to Makeship plushies of different characters from my favorite media, I have dropped probably close to $700 in merch just off the top of my head.

And when I heard Dandy's World got merch, I was beyond excited to snag some merch of my new hyperfixation.

However, when I saw what we got in terms of the merch, I'm sure you can imagine my disappointment when I learned it was blind boxes.

Now, I've always had quite the love-hate relationship with blind boxes. On one hand, it's like a surge of excitement when you get that box with your favorite character and feel as though you've won the lottery. On the other hand, though...When you don't get that character or worse, get doubles, be it of your favorite character or not, your wallet/bank really starts to feel the sting.

So, I had planned to snag the collector's kit. I was mainly aiming for Vee, Sprout, Shelly, and Astro because they are my favorites among the main toons, but I didn't mind having all of em from the first wave to happily display and cherish.

However...A combination of being short on cash at the time, as well as the kit selling out practically the day the merch dropped...It was hitting hard that I was going to have to save up to try my luck with 8-9 blind boxes...Which was going to cost a pretty penny (about $100+ for anyone curious).

So, the grind began, I was setting aside any cash I got to return to the world of debt, but it was worth it knowing I likely had a high chance of getting the four I wanted via getting 8 boxes...However, the big, bold words "Limited-time" flew over my head again and again, and once I finally had the rest of the funds to get them all...They were sold out.

It was crushing...I was literally fighting off tears at 3 in the morning (I'm pathetic, I know) because I could've just got 6 and prayed I somehow got the 4 I wanted, even if the other 2 were doubles.

Yes, it was on me for not noticing the words "Limited-time"...I'm never going to live it down...But after some banter with my friend, I started to realize just how money hungry this felt...

Blind boxes are a fantastic way for companies to make their money. Several are likely to sell, especially ones catered to big media since people will want to ensure they get the character(s) they want. I'm guessing the reason the blind boxes were done was a combination of that fact and because they had Poppy and Boxten in this wave.

Realistically speaking, if we were given the choice to choose the ones we wanted to get this first wave, no doubt all of the main toons would've been big sellers up against Poppy and Boxten.

So, my friend and I got thinking, and we came up with a hypothetical alternative route this merch drop could've gone.

Now, remember, all of this has just been my thoughts and opinions so far. I love the keychains and I'm currently making an ad to snag any doubles later on. I wouldn't be making this post if I didn't love em after all! This, again, is just my thoughts about how this could've gone far differently and maybe even better ^^'

- It should've just been the main 6 toons

Adding Poppy and Boxten just felt like a way to go forward with the blind box's method, but that's just my thoughts on it, I could very well be wrong. I feel for the first wave, it would've made far more sense to dedicate the first wave of plushies to the stars of the show and still keep Dandy as the rare one to find!

- Lowering the price just a little

This one can be argued, but me personally, I probably would've changed like, 9.99 for them since it would already add up with shipping to. It could entice people having the price just a tad bit lower to buy more and whatnot. This would go for both the boxes and the kit.

- Giving people a choice between blind boxes and getting their favorite character...With a catch

This one I felt should've been done. I feel it would've been fantastic and maybe even brought in more profit! But again, just my thoughts. I feel there should've been an option to get the characters you wanted (Vee, Sprout, Shelly, Astro, and or Pebble) outside of the blind boxes, basically ensuring you got them and could cherish them...The catch, however, is that Dandy is a blind box exclusive, meaning if you want him...You're gonna have to gamble (it would fit his character too given what he often sells is a gamble if it's good or not-)

And those were my silly little ideas for how this merch drop could've gone differently! I'm still super devastated that I missed this wave and I'm praying that if people get dupes I can buy them, even if I need to overpay. ^^'

Please, please, please no hate on this post! This is just my own thoughts and opinions for this first wave, and everyone is allowed to have an opinion.

I do apologize for how long this was, but I did really need to just get it off my chest ^^'

It started small.

A little cinnamon roll keychain on your bag. A Smiski peeking out from your bookshelf. Bakugou didn’t think much of it when he first started coming over. He figured you were just cute. Weird, but cute.

Then, like some chaotic collectible infestation, it multiplied.

He spotted one on your nightstand. A tiny half naked baby with a strawberry hat and dead eyes. He actually flinched.

“What the actual fuck is that.”

“That’s my Sonny angel,” you said, completely unfazed. “I got him from a blind box. I was trying to get the cherry one.”

“There’s more of them?”

“…Yeah?” you said, slowly, like it was obvious. “You’ve never opened a blind box before?”

“No.” His tone was flat. “Because I’m not five.”

But you caught him glancing at the tiny shelf where four more Sonny Angels had mysteriously appeared—cherry, watermelon, a rare sprout head one… and a cursed one with a eggplant hat on that you’d named eggward.

Soon there were Smiskis in your bathroom (they glowed in the dark—how could you resist?!), tiny Sanrio figures peeking out from plant pots, and a few bakery animals lined up on your kitchen windowsill like a cursed breakfast buffet.

There was a Nyota figure holding a star above its head, perched on your bookshelf now. You claimed she brought good vibes. Bakugou wasn’t convinced.

But what finally broke him—what made him realize he was in too deep—was the day he spotted a rogue trinket on his own nightstand.

A miniature hirono figure, next to his alarm clock.

“I don’t remember putting this here.”

You blinked innocently. “He looked like he needed a home.”

A few weeks later, you come home after your shift and You step into your living room—and there it is. A new wall-mounted shelf. Sleek. Sturdy. Hand-built. Three tiers.

You cover your mouth. “Katsuki…”

He doesn’t look at you, crouched by the toolbox, eyes still focused on tightening the last screw. “Ya didn’t have any damn space. Those little freaks were gonna start multiplying on the floor.”

You just beamed, walking over and wrapping your arms around him from behind.

“…You love my little freaks,” you whispered against his neck.

“god you’re weird.”

Later that night, after you’ve lovingly arranged your favorites on the shelf—you spot a small, unopened Pro Hero blind box tucked into your pillow.

Your eyes go wide. “No way.”

Bakugou, toothbrush in mouth, doesn’t look up. “Told that nerd Deku to bring me one from his collab drop. Figured you’d like it.”

You tear it open like a kid on Christmas.

And scream. “IT’S YOU.”

Bakugou looks over—and sure enough, there he is. Chibi him. Little angry face, little gauntlets, little explosion backdrop.

“Holy crap, Katsuki—he’s got a tiny scowl and everything!”

You clutch it like a prize. “This is going on the top shelf.” Bakugou tries to act like it’s nothing. Like he’s not soft. Like he didn’t literally build you a shrine for your trinkets and get you a mini version of himself because he knows how much you love them.

i can totally see bangchan as being a collage, like the kind that you make from random shein stickers and dried flowers you find in the garden that makes the entire journal smell like a garden. the colleges would be so unique too like definitely a comforting, almost nostalgic ocean vibe made from scraped magazine cut-outs of waves and trees and waterfalls and mountains and quotes that make you feel at home. oh yeah, and there would definitely be at least one random silly picture you took with your friends back in highschool somewhere in the foreground. extra points if you're a bit drunk and in bikinis.

minho would totally be random ass crafts like painting rocks or making cat keychains from old pieces of cloth. i definitely see him as the type of person to give you the crafts too yk like he’s the form of art where you watch a 5 minute youtube tutorial on—"how to make a pipe cleaner jellyfish"—and it turns into a hyperfixation for the next week and your house is full of pipecleaner jellyfish you don’t know what to do with when your new knitting-headphone-sprouts hyperfixation hits so you end up giving jellyfish to every person you meet. idk how to explain it, but yeah.

changbin...i was a little stuck on this one ngl...i went through a range or different art forms before i got caught between digital art and culinary arts. i eventually landed on culinary because you cannot look me dead in my eyes and tell me this man doesn't look like an entire (protein packed) 5 course meal!!!! he would be the cooking kind of culinary though, where they make a thick, juicy chicken breast and it's actually seasoned well. guys...am i delusional?

hyunjin ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ oil & watercolor painting

hyunjin…is this even a question? hyunjin would be painting, but the kind of painting that wasn't planned and yet still turned out so incredibly stunning you're still impressed when flipping past it in your sketchbook. for whatever reason, i can't get the image of him being on stage as an oil based art piece with deep reds and like an olive green, but when he's with the boys he's more of a watercolor painting with pastels. i mean, look at the man, hwang hyunjin is the definition of ART.

felix ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ photography

felix would be photography, but where it’s a shot of somebody smoking underneath a streetlight and in the background it’s a sunset and her eyes tell an entire story in a single shot. i can't see him as like a badly taken shot that people do for funsies. the type of photography that fits him is the professional kind that people spend years to perfect. it’s so hard to describe, but Felix just totally gives that vibe, he’s so dynamic and there are so many shades and colors to his personality that, like good photography, the more time you spend with him the more you seem to unlock.

jisung ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ music

jisungs feels like what music sounds like. i don't know if that makes any sense, but he would be a lyrical paper, but also sound like a really, really hot electric guitar riff. OMG HE WOULD BE LIKE THE GUY YOU SEE ON TIKTOK. please tell me you know what i mean. he would totally be one of those videos where you can only see their veiny hands and they are covering the best part of "do you wanna know?" or he would be a song played on a specific kind of keyboard.

seungmin ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ poetry/short stories

kim seungmin would 100% be a poem written by a very talented, very emotional 15 year old. i feel like it would be the kind of poem that would bring you to tears by the depth of its emotion, but it doesn't actually get recognition. i wouldn't put him in the poetry box though because i could see him as a nice short story as well. literature is the language of the silent and that feels so incredibly seungmin. he barely gets recognized (like more if not all good writers) but is so talented. he would be a story the author poured their entire heart, mind, and soul into, but still sits in an abandoned notebook on the top shelf.

jeongin ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥ pottery

why do i feel like jeongin would be pottery? i feel like pottery is such a beautiful and calming craft that you can spill out all of your creativity into, but it’s not too tedious. pottery also is criminally underrated and a total hidden gem. he would definitely be like a plain pot with those little hand holders (dykwim?) i don’t know why, but i can’t see him being like pottery where it’s decked out in paint. i just imagine him being more simple and it’s more of like a calming exercise where you’re only doing it for fun…with the occasional tiny painting of a studio ghibli character in the corner.

Gigi with a snap-hook tail (those weird oval-like clasps you see on keychains); they hide it under an oversized sweater because they think it looks weird

Sprout absolutely had an emo phase and used fertilizer to grow out his leaves. Even outside of the phase he sometimes mistakes his usual water spray bottle w/ the fertilizer and gets confused as to why his leaves are longer a few hours later

Flutter headbutts other toons to show her affection

Flutter's dialogue (..., ..!, etc) just being moth squeaks

Genderfluid Glisten

Most toons think that Razzle is a coffee addict and Dazzle's the casual tea drinker, but in actuality it's the other way around (Dazzle being the coffee addict to keep himself awake and Razzle enjoying sweet tea to keep himself grounded)

Scraps and Goob being romantic opposites with Scraps having the mentality of "I'm perfectly fine on my own" and Goob thinking "why stop at 1 cuddle buddy when I could have multiple?" (ace Scraps and polyam Goob <3)

Yandere!Prime Omega!Rin x Prime Alpha!Yoichi

Currently just sittin' here thinkin' 'bout Prime Omega Rin being completely and utterly consumed by his obsesssion with Prime Alpha Yoichi.

It's gross, and weird and decidedly concerning but Rin does not care in the slightest.

He's collected several of what he likes to call "keepsakes" from his encounters with the Alpha, like the classics: strands of hair (he once had the strong urge to clip off Yoichi's adorable little sprout while he slept and keep it), dirty undergarments (one time, when rifling through Yoichi’s dirty laundry hamper, Rin stumbled upon a pair of boxer-briefs stained with a small amount of precum. He nearly lost his mind at the scent, but before he could do anything to blow his cover, he pocketed the briefs and took them home to add to his "keepsake" collection), and little things that remind Rin of Yoichi, like that lobster keychain he caught him eyeing at a market one day.

But then, there's the stranger things Rin's somehow procured.

For instance, he's got several bandages seeped with Yoichi's blood that he keeps (that he may or may not have tried to suck the blood out of), a used toothbrush (which he may or may not have used himself), a very gently used razor, discarded gum and a worn bar of Yoichi’s favorite brand of soap.

Rin keeps everything hidden away and neatly organized in a space in his closet at home. He doesn't like to call it a shrine exactly, 'cus that's hella cliché, but that's lowkey kind of what it is.

He also has a ton of pictures of Yoichi, taken from various devices and saved in various places.

From candid captures to pictures with more of a professional setup, Rin adores seeing Yoichi in his natural state, whether that be in the midst of eating, sweating during training, or smiling big and bright.

Rin despises being away from Yoichi, he quite literally wants to cut him open and crawl up into his skin, then sew him back together from the inside out and just live curled up in his abdomen, closest to the Alpha's heart.

He's had increasingly violent thoughts about Yoichi, wanting to "devour" him, and be devoured in return.

He wants to be wrecked by Yoichi, used and hurt and ultimately consumed.

He wants to give him pups, a whole healthy litter- a big, happy family.

All these contrasting thoughts try their best to drive Rin insane. He tries his best to control them, but the task becomes more difficult as time passes, and he's forced to watch the friendly, sociable, magnetic, irresistible Yoichi laugh and interact with his friends and others.

Rin doesn't like the fact that other people take up so much of Yoichi's time. It makes the possessive, clingy, needy part of him flare up angrily.

Yoichi belongs to Rin. Whether he knows it yet or not.

Nothing's official; they've not yet given each other mating marks or even scented one another, but Rin knows in his heart of hearts that he and Yoichi are meant to be.

Unlike my previous Toon OCs, this character wasn't just some idea I came up myself. Instead, I made this as a gift for my friend Denzi-P! Denzi was the one who thought up what kind of object this Toon would be, and I was the one who came up with the name!

Now for... uhh... LORE? Well, fitting for a keychain, Glaze's specialty is designing clothes, collectables, toys, and other merchandise for the Gardenview center. While he does have a lot of talent in his crafts, he's rather insecure about his artistic abilities and often worries that he may not make the cut. Glaze often feels a need to prove himself worthy in the eyes of the staff, the guests, and the other Toons, resulting him being... umm... rather clingy and sycophantic. In spite of his insecurities, however, plenty of Toons, such as Poppy, Essa (another Toon OC I made), and Scraps are genuinely appreciative of his skills.

Notes about Glaze's active Ability, Clingy Chain:

Note 1: The max distance that Glaze and the attached Toon can wander away from one another is about as far as the max range of Scraps' Crafty Grapple. If a chained Toon tries to move beyond the max distance, their ally will be pulled around to keep up with them.

Note 2: The effect of this ability instantly ends if either Glaze or the Toon he's attached to dies.

Note 3: The ability's effect can be stacked if more than one Glaze clings to the same Toon.

And a bit more trivia:

If Glaze were modeled in 3D, he would have a colored outline, similar to Poppy or Finn.

Glaze has a dog-like appearance and can let out a pretty menacing bark. He also keeps plenty of squishy toys to chew on.

While Glaze is male, he does have interests in makeup and jewelry. He does think he's got a pretty boy face, but he sometimes feels insecure about his chubby abdomen.

Glisten has a rather negative opinion of Glaze due to Glaze constantly putting himself down despite being so talented. While the two are both made of glass, they don't seem to be related to one another.

Glaze has a very positive relationship with Goob due to Goob's hugs helping him calm down.

Out of all the Main Toons, Glaze gets along with Sprout the best due to his companionship and tasty treats.

Glaze finds Pebble and Coal to be perplexing, but loves them nonetheless.

Glaze distrusts Dandy for some reason.

Halloween update is confirmed to come this year, spooky toons incoming, Connie is not a Halloween toon as some thought-

Discord poll which was asking everyone if they want to hear Bobette's or Bassie's last name and Bassie won so her full name is Bassie Bloomington.

There will be a button while in the elevator in the future where you can press it alone or with someone together and it will match you together with other players in other servers that also pressed the button, this is for those that want a team immediately immediately instead of server hopping to find a run already, you can still host runs in the lobby ofc, the button is optional!

Different types of machines

3 new maps and maaaaybe some new lore in them

Stickers will be added in the future for easier communication with your team or for silly stuff (like showing them off). Idk if all stickers will have messages on them but they will contain messages where you can talk easier like "gte", "I'll handle the twisteds", "I'm on the last machine" probably those types of messages (this is huge for console players who can't use chat at all), no idea if the stickers will have characters on them, maybe some?? No idea. Free stickers will be given by default and the rest you have to collect/buy them with ichor, idk if you have to actually collect them around the maps?? Also apparently one (Golden Shrimpo Brick??) will cost 10k ichor I genuinely have no idea if they'll add it but omg it became a meme-

Qwel showed us an idle Cosmo animation in the works (it might change) where he reaches behind his back to grab his Sweet Charm bracelet, look at it before putting it back, as if checking/making sure it's okay, if I heard right apparently Sprout and him will have matching idle animations with their trinkets (also yes they 3D modeled the Sweet Charm lol), I managed to find a GIF of it in Twitter so click here if you wanna see it!

Yatta "I eat bricks" skin coming soon too

The keychain plushie merch thingy ships in a few days or soon or something idk those blind bags and also apparently Qwel is planning new merch like clothes, higher quality plushies and more (shit doesn't ship in my country I'm cooked fellas I really want them sobs)

Razzle & Dazzle got optimized and they'll have new animations and it'll be different in the lobby and during the game too. During the game, whoever is active will have their own animations and it also shows who is active better (like for example, they both will have different extracting animation) so that's very noice for the RnD fans

They said they'll tweak the hitboxes/make them better or something idk something like that, let's pray the air doesn't attack us randomly fellas

Qwel has more people to help push out updates/optimization stuff faster

Dandy is getting more dialogue options, expressions and more interactions with what the players do (The YouTube stream I was watching lagged in general so I didn't hear that much, idk if it's only the lobby or shop during a run or even both but he's getting more content)
