Octavinelle Character Songs and Associations

Moving onto our third dorm, Octavinelle, we have a variety of different genres, but also a common theme throughout. After all, these three are distinctly different, but work together beautifully.

There are rather a lot of songs in this entry; you'll see why, but also, these boys truly deserve it!

Notes: Every song is from my liked songs playlist (so feel free to judge me for my taste, haha!) and I only allowed myself to use an artist once for this project. There is also some strong language and mature themes in some of the songs, so be aware if you choose to listen to them. I've included: - A song that represents them - A song they'd listen to - and (for some) an additional song, depending on the character and circumstance

Represented by: There's a Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet - Panic! At The Disco

Azul has a mindset of changing himself, and proving himself to others. This often manifests in a rather showy manner, as he aims to present himself as not just worthy of respect, but worthy of more. And most importantly, he plans and then works towards this goal. He is also dramatic, yet well-put together and somewhat formal, much like the narrative setting of this song.

Listens to: Almost Human - Voltaire

Again, Azul is ~dramatic~ so he would like the theatricality and classiness of Voltaire's "dark cabaret"-style music. He would also at least somewhat relate to the lyrical themes of being powerful, but also feeling powerless, out-of-place, and insecure, while still presenting as dignified and confident. He almost certainly cried the first time he heard this song.

Bonus - Suggested for Trio: One O'Clock Jump - Count Basie

Since Azul, Jade, and Floyd had a trio in middle school with piano, bass, and a drum kit, I assume it was a jazz trio. As such, Azul would have likely suggested jazz standards for them to play, including One O'Clock Jump. This piece would showcase his piano skills as well as the musical abilities of the Leech twins, allowing him to perform what he was good at, and at a fairly comfortable level that would still be impressive for the audience. As always, working to maximize the output, while mitigating risk!

Jade Leech

Represented by: Mack the Knife - Bobby Darin

Look in my eyes and tell me that this song does not represent Jade Leech. Jade is reserved and dignified, seemingly a perfect gentleman. But he's also calculating, careful, and violent. He knows how to have his... uh... "fun" with it rarely being traced back to him; "He keeps it out of sight" :) The swing jazz performance and translation of Darin's version of this song also just suits Jade's personality marvellously.

Listens to: Woodland - The Paper Kites

However, I strongly believe Jade would like soft music, mostly indie pop and maybe folk or country ballads. That is, if it had lyrics that interested him. They could be either related to nature - as in this song - or of a shocking or dark subject material (like with murder ballads, such as Down in the Willow Garden). Jade would definitely listen to Woodland while arranging terrariums or getting ready to go on a hike :)

Bonus - Suggested for Trio: Billie's Bounce - Dexter Gordon

Like Azul, Jade would suggest a jazz standard for their trio, but not one with simple melodies or rhythms. Syncopation and interesting modes would provide the chaos he so craves. Billie's Bounce is also LENGTHY, at a whopping 17 minutes, 8 seconds; Jade seems the type to like to focus on a single piece, and this one is additionally varied enough to keep his interest. However, he would find it equally as interesting if the length caused his brother's attention to waver, leading to an even more chaotic play-through than may otherwise occur.

Floyd Leech

Represented by: I Can't Decide - Scissor Sisters

I know that everyone assigns I Can't Decide to Floyd, but it just fits him so well! He has some very violent tendencies, but is usually incredibly upbeat and positive about it. Plus, the instrumentation of this song completely suits Floyd's energy! There's a reason people give this song to him.

Listens to (Good mood): Loser - Beck

Like everything to do with Floyd, his music taste changes based on his mood.  If he were in a good mood, he'd look for something that's easy to dance to, a bit lyrically silly, but still clever and with a good backstory or media references. Loser fits those criteria, and is also something he would just vibe with. It's fun, it's offbeat, it's sarcastic, it's perfect for Floyd.

Listens to (Bad mood): HURT - 1 800 PAIN

But if he were in a bad mood... his music choice would be a lot darker and more aggressive. If you ever come across Floyd listening to this, any horrorcore (Gravediggaz, ICP, (early) Eminem, etc.), any grindcore (Cattle Decapitation, Lock Up, Carcass, etc.) or anything similar in tone... RUN. NOW.

Bonus - Suggested for Trio: Five Foot Two Eyes Of Blue - Spike Jones

Like Jade, Floyd would suggest a slightly unusual piece for their trio to play.  But unlike his brother, Floyd would like something rhythmically consistent and uptempo, mostly since it's easier to dance to. But he'd still want something otherwise unpredictable. And since he can play basically any instrument necessary, this song is a perfect fit. But honestly, as long as it's fun and interesting, Floyd would want to play it!

April! Continuing my little bonus challenge of meaningful numbers, this playlist is 4 hours and 0 minutes long (my 40th birthday was this month).

Being my birthday month, this playlist was all about indulging myself with some oft-played faves mixed with ancient nostalgia, while also threading through a little bit of self-discovery vibes? Existing at this age wasn't something I could really conceptualize when listening to 'Barracuda' for the first time, I was just getting by day-to-day.

Anyway! A lot of songs from my most beloved records and tapes growing up, but with all the things I've fallen in love with since (did you know I was finally able to learn who Dio was thanks to hearing it on a radio station in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.

That's not to say there are a bunch of new favourites in here; 'Damocles' by Medusa is sparkling new and absolutely slaps in a way that I wish I could send to young me who hadn't even heard rock as hard as 'Time of the Season' yet, but who would play harpsichord records loudly, paving the mental pathways for listening to Wendy Carlos' The Well-Tempered Synthesizer (deeply unavailable online). I will note that I'd heard rock before The Zombies, but I don't think the piano music to 'White Rabbit' is quite the same thing, really.

That's a fair source as it predates JeiKei's cover by over a year. But I wanna make clear that we don't use "just trust me bro" or "my third cousin's friend said" as sources in this household. Not because I wouldn't like to believe them, just... proof is important. I've seen the Japanese interview source mentioned but not with receipts. This really is as close as I can get - Spotify screenshots are almost impossible to verify but I have several of them, as well. My day just got busy what with giant winter storms, but hey - as long as the power's up I'm not leaving the house, so I have time. Childe is... Well Childe. Dumb flirting, memes (also outdated ones to annoy everyone) and getting teased by friends (Kaeya and Rosaria mostly). He's charming to some (He managed to befriend Zhongli so???) and the most annoying person to others (scaramouche.) But he can be real funny so thats good at least. He will absolutely call the player at 3am to ask them if they wanna go to McDonalds with him. He doesnt care if he wakes them up. Smh.

Zhongli is one of the more... sane people in chat. He's very nice when the player first joins the chat but my god this man texts so slow 😩✋🏻He doesnt use his thumbs to type... He does it like parents do with their pointer fingers. He uses complicated words and texts a whole ass block if asked about smth. But he's calm and friendly so it's okay <3 (lets ignore his non-existant meme knowledge tho. "What does this mean?" "Who is this?" Pls stop asking boomer it's a joke <///3) Also Ur right he asks Childe for money and somehow he gets what he wants. Every. Single. Time.

Chongyun not only sends videos, he makes them as well (thanks to Hu Tao and Xingqiu). He is just passionate and wants to educate people :((( He's so excited when people comment on his videos :((( (eventhough it was his friends with secret accounts to encourage him until he got a small following <3). He will get so excited when the player asks him stuff about spirits :)))

You're so right, Xingqiu ofc writes fanfics. He will not be ashamed to throw links to his writing in the main chat with everyone. No one can say anything about it cuz his writing is actually so so good. Him and Albedo bond over the characters in the stories cuz Bedo has to draw them. Pls read his fanfics, he will be happy about it <3 He'll let the player be one of his beta readers <3

Kaeya is another one of the flirts. He's so good at it too. He's pretty active in chat, teasing everyone and joking around. He does respect the player's boundaries tho. He'll DM them when he thinks he took the teasing too far to check in with them. Idk he's super fun to chat with and when you get close to him he calms a little? It's obvious how fond he is of the player imo. Lots of inside jokes and teasing Diluc together <3

On that note... Diluc hopes you don't get too close to Kaeya. (He needs more people on his side /hj). He's usually pretty quiet in chat and texts short answers. Player might think he doesnt like them at first but everyone else can tell he gets attached to them <3 He'll text you in the middle of the night because he's a night owl and feels so guilty if he wakes you :(( He'll appreciate the company and will get flustered when you try to take care of him <3

Jean is the mom friend. Tired, overworked, stressed. Please help her out <//3. She has work to do and also moderate the whole chat. She feels like shes surrounded by a bunch of children. Xinyan (aka. Barbara's bestie) will always throw song links into main chat. She makes banger music!!! So cool. She's so unapologetically herself you can't help but like her. She's not afraid to stand up for what she thinks is right. She'll make sure the others don't overwhelm you <3 And! She'll let you listen to her songs first <3

Rosaria is so savage. She bullies Childe together with Kaeya lmao. She has good memes and reaction pics for everything! She'll make sure the player doesnt get overwhelmed as well. She's just so chill and doesnt care about other peoples opinions. Girlboss <3
