I'm watching The Sword pt. 1 and im going insane.... thinking about how well this episode sets up catra and adoras conflict. both internal and external like

Both of them around Shadow Weaver. They're having fun until she arrives - and they're both immediately tense. Adora playing the soldier, standing to attention, and Catra very clearly feeling unsafe. And then Shadow Weaver takes Adora away.

Adora by herself with the force captain badge in her hand, desperately trying to be happy about it. The way she downplays it at first when Catra asks about it, but gets defensive when Catra gets upset about being left behind. She asks Catra to be happy for her, because she's so used to receiving happiness from external validation.

Then on the skiff, Catra puts Adora's name before hers ("Thats a problem for Future Adora and Catra!"), content to be resigned at second place as long as Adora wants her around (even though it clearly bothers her).

AND THEN that night Catra is sleeping at the foot of Adora's bed, not even under the covers. Adora smiling when she sees her. They're closer than any of the other cadets but they're not together. Not completely.

Like this is episode 1, and not even all of it. This show is a masterpiece.
