"not as it seems" my ASS it took about 15 seconds for me to decide gerry'd been lobotomized in this universe. it's like 5am and these people presumably showed up at your door with no explanation, and you asked NO questions before inviting them in!? wdym you "barely remember" what happened to you at the institute? how young could he even have been if the institute incident happened about 20 years ago, old enough to remember way more than that surely? the glitch/scratch when gertrude said she didn't think he could help them? is that indicative of someone using entity related powers like it was in tma or does it just mean she's lying? this is so funny to me it wasn't even subtle at all everyone just decided it was more fun to live in denial ig. sonic 3 spoilers (longer - very long thoughts)

just thoughts about something that i would add to the movie

1) i fully expected sonic to take the photo of shadow and maria and later give it to him, since he destroyed everything else and it would be nice like "hey i held onto this for you, might be important" i think it would be a nice way to connect them in an even stronger way. it felt like the rivals to friends was rushed, though shadow seemed to be depicted as more youthful here, i still feel like he would need something more to get through him (but then he def felt something already when he hit tom so it wasnt like a sudden switch or anything)

2) maybe i wasnt paying full attention but robotniks last words came kinda out of nowhere, i really expected them to show at least a little bit of the times stone cared for him. like have him go through the realization and let him feel it on screen a bit longer. maybe he had a moment of thought but i dont remember that. (also it was good but kinda silly in retrospect he really broadcasted it to the whole world 0 shame 😭 just imagining bot from the first movie seeing his future self say that. hed explode)

i would add like 10-20 mins to the movie for this. just let the characters stop for a moment and feel. but then, its a sonic movie. the audience is 5 year olds. it doesnt matter. but i still felt like a lot has been cut or missing? - then again, i need to rewatch it/watch the original to see the original pacing and wording of things. perhaps some things got lost in translation or whatever. i also couldnt concentrate cause someone kept fucking talking over the movie. but what wasnt shown just wasnt shown. also for shadow idk i thought they would go for some brooding scene in the vibe of spiderverse introductions but it went all action but ig they made up for it later i loved the scenes with maria and the stargazing (back when i was into sonadow stargazing was my fave trope for them. stars in general. so this was beautiful. shadow as a falling/fallen star too and in this case it applied to both him and sonic)

3) more music. again this might be just the case of the dubbed version but i felt a severe lack of music? and to me personally the live and learn part felt extremely weak, the orchestral version or whatever it was is nice but here it wasnt hype enough for me. idk, again, maybe the og will feel different but you know. if more of the scenes were treated music wise like the dance ones id be more hyped, i dont like when they use a song but only like 4 seconds of it and stuff. to compare it with an example of what i loved it would definitely be deadpool - the opening fucking slayed and also the like a prayer part. that shit went hard as hell and i didnt even like dp3 that much.

but overall i feel like the pacing was so much better in this one than the second movie and it felt like they actually gave more screentime to the nonhuman characters this time

- this is more critical but there were also parts that i loved and like overall the movie was good, i liked the story, i liked what they did with shadow (i wish they stretched out the tokyo part longer though, that was dope), loved what they did with him and maria, the movie felt balanced enough (but i felt that way about 2 and then on rewatch it was noticeable how many useless human scenes there were so that might change), the gun agents were walking the thin line of being too annoying but it was doable, i loved what they did with walters! also i like wade as a character but this was just enough (people were Groaning when he got on screen lmfao) same applies to the others but i was surprised that was it. so silly

however i still enjoyed 2 more. but this might just be the case of "im super tired, quite depressed, i dont care about anything rn, some ppl fucked me over today and i dont feel good, the vibe is off, i cant hear half of the movie, im too hot and got low bp and keep hearing my heartbeat louder than anything else, and i didnt get a happy ending" rather than "movie bad"

when they revealed shadow in 2 i was jumping off of my seat and gripping the one in front of me. this post creds reveal here was like "oh! okay nice" (<- expected this so 0 surprise or anything)

also for 2 i went in with low expectations and got peak. for 3 i expected better than 2. so i failed myself there

i wish i could say i enjoyed this even more than the 2nd movie. i wish i got back from the cinema just typing out jumbled words and screams on social media like after the 2nd. i got out of this one like "i have to pretend i loved this greatly like i had to do with the fnaf movie" but this was at least better than the fnaf movie to me lmao

fucking sonic prime got more reactions out of me than this movie and i wanted to enjoy it so bad. anyway i need meds or something i ran out of D3 its also that speaking thru me

Okay, so I have multiple questions, but you don't have to answer all of them!!!

2) What do you think episode 8 will be about?

3) How do you think they will approach Claudia and Madeleine's relationship? Do you think the -isms girlies would ever aknowledge that an eventual physical relationship is just as fucked up as 33 years old Louis (body wise) and 17 years old Armand (body wise) and that maybe the fact that they're vampires negates some of that stuff? (ESPECIALLY since Claudia is no longer 5, like in the books. Honestly dunno how they'd pull the "child vampire, must be killed!" with a 14 years old when Armand is barely 3 years older than her, at this point in time being given no reason to think they bumped up his age as well, despite the actor being 34.)

As a side comment, I think it would've been wise to make Armand older as well, just from a human filming perspective. It will be harder and harder to keep Assad looking like an ethereal 17 years old. Like, he doesn't look 17 even now, but he looks young! They could say he's 21 or 22 and Louis would still be a lot older and able to comment "He was like a boy masquerading as a gentleman." Idk, we'll see. We don't know yet when show!Armand got turned, so I'm keeping my hopes up on that atm.

I had to dig up the episode titles to guess how the order of events goes lol. between that and the soundtrack titles, it's prbly gonna be Armand and Louis in New Orleans, post trial. Louis seeing Lestat again in the house may or may not happen. Whatever the explosive fallout in Dubai is about, that's gonna occur. Loumand breakup possible? Lestat prbly is introduced in modern day. Cliffhanger lead in to S3.

I got kind of lost following this question lol. Idk if Claudeleine is gonna happen. I expect a blurred mixture of relationships the way they've been doing it with the others so far. I think Claudia will explore womanhood with Madeleine somehow but not necessarily in a romantic or sexual way. Having her be a dressmaker involves enough physical intimacy without needing to move it further tbh. I don't rly think this show is gonna get into all the underage themes with relationships bcuz they've p intentionally skipped over a lot of it so far. It'll prbly be mentioned around some characters at times but I dont think they're gonna focus on it a lot. There isn't rly a reason to.

I don't think Armand is supposed to actually be 17 in the series. Ig we'll have to wait for them to specify more outside the Rashid disguise but I think the language would have been more obvious by now if he's supposed to be that young. I think he's supposed to be at least over 20.

Claudia also wasn't killed in IWTV for being young but bcuz she "murdered" Lestat. All of it's made up anyway but at least in that book itself that's the main reason given, that's what Lestat is dragged out to accuse her of.

I did not forget that I was supposed to write some kind of concert report thingy @another-sun asked for, but I've just been so overwhelmed

anyway, here are some of the things I can remember from seeing Blind Channel's secret show with @thisisntaparty who I now own my life to 🖤

- the tickets stated that you are not allowed to camp out in front of Tavastia, so we were there maybe one hour before the doors were supposed to open and there was only ten or twelve people before us

- at the door they checked our ids and took signed NDAs that we wouldn't record during Flatline

- there were free water bottles and soda cans available, they also sold merch and I got the new Flatline shirt after the show, no other new merch items

- we just. walked. to the stage. no fence. nothing. like literally Olli's platform was maybe 20 cm in front of us (already started to lose our minds because they would be SO CLOSE to us) 😶😶

- Santeri came to stage and reminded us of the not filming part, and told us that the gig would last around 30 mins

- thisisntaparty was checking her phone and we were wondering if the show would start in half an hour and AT THE SAME MOMENT the intro started playing and Tommi stepped on stage, and then Aleksi and Joonas and Olli RIGHT IN FRONT OF US and then Niko & Joel and I just started screaming and screeching so hard I had to press both palms in front of my mouth to muffle it because it was just too much 😭😭

- they played Over My Dead Body, We Are No Saints, Balboa, Bad Idea, Flatline and Dark Side, in that order

- all of them wore the Flatline promo clothes which I loved because I'm so used to seeing them in same black stage clothes. special shout out Joonas's shiny overalls and Olli's boots ✨️

- I was headbanging ridiculously hard during the first two songs, OMDB still has that great EDM drop with all of them dancing and spinning around the stage and WANS is just SO good and epic live and I love it aaaarrrrrrrr 🖤🖤🖤

- at some point we were just grabbing each other for support because everything felt so overwhelming 🥹

- Olli & Joonas switched places more often than I think they usually do so we got great uhhh close-ups of them both

- almost got hit in the head multiple times by the bass neck because Olli still doesn't know how to handle his instrument responsibly 😅

- Balboa works live like a charm but of course we all knew that, and everyone around me was singing to Bad Idea from the bottom of their lungs, and I'm getting welled up right now because that song has meant SO MUCH to me and made me feel less alone during the last year and just hearing the crowd singing in unison there's darkness and it follows me --ok moving on before I'll start crying again

- I was asked to hide all spoilers and opinions about Flatline, so those are under the read more 👇

- Joel called Dark Side an "old classic" that they "have to play so they won't forget it" 🖤

- when the show was over Joel started giving fistbumps to the first row and at first he couldn't reach us because we were too far, but then he climbed on the platform and gave thisisntaparty a triplebump as if to apologise 😄 and I got one too 🥰 and Joonas gave us highfives as well and I still can't believe they are real people and I saw them up close and touched them and are we still sure that wasn't just a dream or some kind of croup hallucination 🥲

Disclaimer: I heard the live version, wasn't wearing any earplugs so the sound wasn't very clear, and I was also out of my mind 🥲

the beginning/intro is the English version of what Käärijä read from the card in his ig story. it's like an infomercial sales pitch: are you tired of ups and downs, do you feel like you can separate music from your thoughts? or something along those lines. my guess is that it won't be a part of the actual song, but rather a separate intro they are going to use in shows and eventually it will end up on the album, similarly to National Heroes/We Are No Saints. I like it, it's funny.

we've heard the chorus in the preview clips, and melodically it's the part I can remember. as in many other BC songs and especially singles, the chorus is the catchiest part and repeats three times growing bigger and getting more massive sound every time (think Dark Side, Bad Idea, Over My Dead Body, WANS, you get the idea). most of their songs use the same structure and why fix it if it ain't broken.

there are also three or four instrumental parts, one right at the beginning, when they do the stupid boyband dance move <3

Joel said on stage that he was very nervous before the song, and they've said that their music style is changing, but for me it didn't sound that different to their earlier stuff. compared to BB or VP LotSaD has much more variety and experimentation of different styles and sounds, even genres (like Don't Fix Me vs Autopsy or Bad Idea vs Glory For the Greedy), and in my opinion Flatline wouldn't have been the odd one out if it was on their fourth album.

it does sound bigger, heavier, more massive, yes, but otherwise it's a very standard BC single, compared to for example We Are No Saints which has the epic choir and guitar solo we don't have in ANY of their other songs. but of course I neither can remember everything that happened in the song nor did I hear all the nuances and instruments in the live performance, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.

I'm in love of the lyrics and the guitar riff and can't wait to hear to studio version on Friday 🖤

Whelp, I have succumbed to curiosity and am also afraid of being spoiled for the ending (idek if there are supposed to be "spoilers" but yknow), so I'm starting a second on-air show even though I'm already watching Wandee. I'm watching it because everybody's seemingly obsessed with it but am also sooo nervous that this show will stumble in the last quarter the way so many shows/BLs tend to. Please let them stick the landing.

Seems like it's about somebody dying and the mother resurrecting him only he came back Wrong (because the wrong person came back in the body)? I know people hate Ming for taking advantage of Joe but also are annoyed with Joe for not standing up to Ming and also something about sneezing... Also it's adapted from a Chinese novel I think? Interesting how many Chineve BL novels are being adapted in other countries now

Watched a bunch of intense shows in a row (A Shop for Killers, The Worst of Evil, Infernal Affairs) and was gonna do a sweeter show with Lovely Runner but I'm gonna save that for my train rides, so I decided to start this instead.

Now I have to wait for like 5 more days for the next ep but the worse part is that I'll have to wait 7 days after ep 11 for ep 12 and then I'll be at in-person work, so won't even get to watch it until many hours after the finale is released.

Y'know ep 9 of Wandee was released yesterday and I haven't watched it but what I've heard about the treatment of SA irritated me, and I'm really hoping this show doesn't disappoint in its last 2 episodes. We're in the final home stretch and I've enjoyed what the show has to offer so far.

I wrote this in the middle of episode 7 and I think my thoughts are still similar: Seeing people say they want revenge is so interesting because I didn’t expect that from this drama, so I’m not disappointed. I’m treating it like Vegas/Pete where Vegas is Extremely Shitty and the show knows he’s Extremely Shitty (as is Ming). However, they give him some stuff that makes him pitiful (hedgehog and abuse from his father. For Ming, it’s missing Joe and playing house while hoping he comes back ig and whatever backstory they'll give him) and while Pete or Joe want to leave and resist, they can’t for long. Vegas doesn’t really get his comeuppance for the stuff he did to Pete (the random guy shooting him doesn't count for me because Pete didn't do it and it wasn't because of what Vegas did to Pete) but in the end, Pete goes back to him anyway and even takes care of him in the hospital. I expect that something similar will happen with Joe; he’s seriously soooo like soft and wants family and doesn’t seem to want revenge, he’ll probably just try to resist Ming but obviously won't be able to, both because he loves him and because Ming's persistent. I hope Ming does Some graveling though; I enjoyed Vegas begging. I know that most people want the before-relationship to be the intense/dramatic part and when they get together, things are solved and, often I’m also in that boat like don’t get with somebody who majorly fucked up before discussing and fixing the fuck up but in the Vegas-Pete and Ming-Joe case, these relationships are way too fucked and unhealthy to neatly patch things up and just Be Good from then on. What I enjoy for VegasPete is Post-canon fics where Vegas fucks up again or we see the toll that Vegas’ treatment has taken on Pete or how they try to figure out their relationship (and their sex life). I think maybe I’ll also be into post-canon MingJoe where Ming’s treatment has fucked Joe up and how they try to fix it or have a relationship because even if Ming changes, it's not like you can just... Forget.

Addition from ep 9: I literally need Tong fucked up so bad though omgggg I cannot STAND that man but I've heard that he doesn't really have anything happen to him in the novel + Mek said the director told him to think of Tong as a good person who is ambitious, so they probably won't give him the villain comeuppence treatment agh.

There are people who still dislike Ming and don't want Joe to end up with him but for me, I feel like me liking or not liking Ming doesn't have any bearing on whether I want Joe to end up with him. Joe fully knows what sort of man Ming is, the show and the audience also know - it's not like some other shows where the love interest is a creep, but we pretend it's romantic or that he's a green flag through and through (forever side-eyeing Prapai in the first few eps of the PaiSky arc and people's reaction to Prapai even though I'm a PaiSky fan). So if Joe wants to stay with Ming even after that, I'll be curious to see how it goes, you know.

I had liked Sol and Joe for a few episodes earlier on but stopped once I saw him fight Ming and not stop even as Joe kept getting hurt while trying to stop the two of them. Ming I know is shitty but if Sol also hurts Joe without caring (and also he's just way too pushy for me - another trait he shares with Ming), then why would I root for Joe to get with him (esp when he doesn't like him romantically) while Joe knows how shitty Ming is but still loves him? It's kind of like Love Mechanics where the characters and some of the audience were talking about how Nuea's a better match. I didn't think Nuea was as much of a stand-up guy as people were saying because he seemed a bit skeezy and very pushy to me (though I can't actually remember much because it's been like 2 years since I watched it). So, I didn't want Mark to choose Nuea or Joe to choose Sol because I don’t think these people are like Good even though they’re better people than Vee and Ming. Might as well get with the toxic man you love and give me a compelling story if the other man is also unlikeable.

Also, I want Joe to top Ming just once. I loved Ming being willing (after kidnapping Joe) and I don't need all my fictional gay relationships to be vers (and I don't necessarily think they would suddenly become vers if Joe tops once lol) but I think it could be interesting.

ok so you play as this adhd bi disaster rookie lawyer phoenix, he's basically mlm elle woods and he takes all of these impossible murder cases and gets his clients declared innocent, he has an awesome chaotic spirit channeling assistant named maya who some times turns into your mentor and her sisters ghost to give you legal advice (and inexplicably grow huge boobs) yada yada yada he cross examines a parrot at one point you get the gist

anyway, it’s also one of the best childhood friends to strangers to rivals to friends to lovers arc of the 21st century

your prosecutor rival is one miles edgeworth, an extremely fruity individual with a frilly cravat who's a little bitch during the first trial and is overly proud of his perfect trial record. so you beat him, and he's bitchy about it. but then in the next trial he helps you and everyones all confused about why.

he takes you aside after the trial and tells you that he "didnt expect to see you again”, and that “in retrospect it would have been better if we hadn’t met” because……

,Lets break this down.

1. This is all thanks to Phoenix. Phoenix caused this. It’s his fault

3. The feelings seem unnecessary. This is how I would have described a crush in middle school.

but phoenix refuses to belive he did it, even when edgeworth point blank told him to fuck off. its revealed that the reason he doesnt want phoenix to defend him is because the case has something to do with "DL-6", the incident where his father, gregory edgeworth was killed in front of him in an elevator. the statue of limitations is almost up on the case, and he doesnt want phoenix to get involved with it for some reason.

anyway the prosecuter for this case is m*nfred von karma, edgeworth's mentor and legal guardian after the death of his father. now, if you thought edgeworth was a bitch, he's a thousand times worse. he insists on perfection in everything, and is not above assault and murder to get his way. he really fucked up edgeworth and his daughter franziska.

anyway, we do a bunch of bullshiting and logical gymnastics to basically prove he didnt do it, but then edgeworth says that it was actually him that accidentially killed his father!!

now since this happened when he was a kid, was an accident, he passed out after, and a bunch of other factors, i could get him off easy but he insists that he deserves to be punished and is a murderer.

so phoenix now has to make a case that he didnt do it, and he reveals why he's so passionate about proving edgeworth innocent. spoiler alert its very gay

so when phoenix was nine he was accused of stealing edgeworths lunch money, and was put on a class trial. everyone was yelling that he did it and traumatizing the poor kid until baby miles edgeworth stood up and defended him like a little lawyer. then they were best friends, and he talks about how his dad was a defense attorney and miles wanted to be just like his dad and its cute. then edgeworth stopped showing up to school (cause his dad was murdered and moved to germany by von karma) when he was at his lowest miles helped him, and it left a lasting impression on the kid.

later, when phoenix is in college, as either a drama or art major, he see's edgeworth in the newspaper, with the article talking about how he's really sus and might be forging evidence and shit, but phoenix refuses to belive all that, or at least wants to know what happended. so instead of just i dont know, showing up at court or something, he decided he was gonna become a lawyer himself to see him again.

I do not! Nothing against it but I just don’t personally enjoy the process so I don’t use it in my personal work. Too much transforming and filtering.. too little actual drawing. I have however used it for professional work and sometimes I will sketch things individually and collage them together to make it easier for me to work depending on the scale. But yeah, no photobashing normally.

(post in reference) I didn’t use any perspective grids for that drawing but occasionally for bigger pieces that require a stronger adherence to perspective I’ll use the Perspective Tools extension by Sergey Kritsky which is ABSOULTELY worth the price here on gumroad if you’re a photoshop-user - makes grids very easy to set up. You can actually see some of the grids in my process work if you’re looking for it lol

I used to be such a square abt it like “bluh perspective is just a bunch of lines i dont need a tool to do it for me like a DUMB BABY. I can just draw the grids myself and itll be good enough!!! :\” dont be like that LOL, I started using perspective tools for work last year and ported it over to my personal work so damn fast its like one of the best artistic decisions ive made. I will probably draw naruto again because like every 4 years of my life I go through a naruto phase. Uhhhh they’re good! I like them! Yusuke’s character arc is maybe like my favorite or second favorite in the game and I love Ryuji first and foremost for max mittlemans voice acting and secondly because he is just so...so much better than P4 Yosuke who I truly could not stand.

I’m not big on Mishima but I think he’s an incredibly well written depiction of like. that dude in class who you didn’t really mean to talk to but ended up talking to and now its a little weird. I really like that event where you run into shinya while hanging out with mishima and shinyas like “whos this your friend” and ren is like “no, king, hes no one” LOL this is mostly because I just really like shinya. 

ships.... I like yusuke/ryuji a lot, just aesthetically and personality wise its an interesting dynamic. I like ryuji/ann bc theyre good friends. I like ann/yusuke if I close my eyes to all the early plot stuff and just pretend theyre like.....fujiko and goemon from lupin III LMAO. ryuji/makoto? kinda woke?? I mean I feel lesbian makoto deep in my bones but also their showtime opened my eyes a lil. I think they could bond over action movies. mishima/protag is kind of fun in like a sad pathetic way.. Okay I think Time Can Heal All, But Maybe Not This has been out long enough that I can actually talk about it

If you haven’t read TCHABMNT yet there’s gonna be some spoilers but you can find it here

EDIT: I forgot to talk about May bc I did this at night when I was really tired and my brain just wanted to talk about Peter ig, that is my absolute bad so I added that in everything else is the same tho

So obvs y’all know I had troubles with getting it published here and there’s still been some struggles but I wanna actually talk about the story.

So I started writing it a few months ago but only got 7 paragraphs in before not knowing where to bring the story. Originally the line “And Peter is terrified” was supposed to end that paragraph.

After that the fic was going to be all fluff and Harley and Tony trying to reassure Peter that his insecurities aren’t going to come to fruition.

But then I had a bad day. And the story had been sitting in my drafts forever. So I figured out how to continue the story.

Make Peter feel alone.

I had to keep the snap canon because otherwise there’s be no other plausible way for all of Peter’s family to just ditch him and for Flash and Peter to become friends.

I had to make it so that everyone in Peter’s life moved on without him.

So May moved to Italy and has a boyfriend who Peter assumes will be her husband by the time he’s 20, she has her dream job and is doing what she loves.

She moved out to Italy to forget Peter. It was for selfish reasons, she lost everything in her life, her husband, his family (Peter’s parents), her parents had died years prior and now Peter is also dead. She’s left alone and she doesn’t know what to do. So May moves to Italy to forget Peter and forget the pain and grief she feels. She doesn’t want to remember him.

By trying to forget she finds a new life. She’s a version of who Peter could have become. May is alone with no one, left behind in a world that lost everything. She has a new family and she can’t give it all up to move half way across the world. May would be uprooting her whole family. She moved on from Peter. Tried her hardest to forget him.

May wants to have a relationship with Peter, she just mentally cannot handle having him back in her life because then that opens up the possibility of Ben being back in her life, or her parents, or Peter’s parents even. By acknowledging that Peter is back for more than a phone call or a FaceTime it’ll send her spiraling. May has crafted this reality for herself and it is safe and she cannot give it up.

She loves Peter, of course she does, but having him back will only hurt her more.

I still think it’s canon, in this story,  that Tony reversed what Thanos did for Peter. And I couldn’t just kill Tony off either because that wouldn’t really be as painful as Peter just not having contact with him after everything.

It’s not because Tony just forgot Peter existed that they don’t really talk at the beginning. Obviously the affect of snapping left Tony seriously injuries and I referenced that in the story, “…Tony needed a lot more attention after the snap due to his injuries…” so Peter doesn’t really have the full idea of what his injuries are like, but I imagine pretty horrible, which would mean that Pepper wouldn’t be able to move him very soon.

Not to mention Morgan, who is born post snap and now the world had doubled in population and suddenly her father is so badly injuries he can’t be moved. That’s traumatizing on a child of her age, and then try and move her into the city?? That’s going to cause lasting affects on her mental health so of course the Starks are going to do what they can for Peter, but they have some really big things they need to deal with too.

But the Starks did move back into the city for him, it’s just a little late, because Peter is now going away for school. It’s not that they didn’t put an effort in to be with him, it’s just that they were spread thin between the Tony’s recovery, having Morgan cope, the company, what’s left of the avengers, trying and get themselves back to the city and being in the midst of what is probably an economic crisis.

When Peter turns 22 there’s a line “Just some empty seats and empty promises,” which isn’t much to go on, but a little bit later when Peter is thirty I wrote that Tony also has an 8 year old son. So Tony and Pepper were supposed to go to Peter’s MIT graduation, but she went into labour and they couldn’t go. It’s such a small little thing that’d be easily missed, but I wanted to sprinkle in that Tony and Pepper were trying to make an effort with Peter at least. But then they have another kid and being parents is hard enough, but now two kids? That’s hard, they’re going to forgot to prioritize Peter, especially when he hasn’t been a priority yet.

I felt it was important to give Peter someone though. Which is why Peter and Flash are friends through the story. It’s unlikely, and it wouldn’t have happened had they not been left behind. In the beginning I had wanted to have Flash and Peter get together romantically at some point, but that felt like a cop out, and too predictable. Which is why Flash ended up with Peter’s P.A, Gwen (yes Gwen Stacy). Having Flash move on with his life could either give Peter the idea that he could have what Flash has, because they’ve been in the same boat forever, or it could lead him to think that he’s incapable of having a life like that.

I had originally written that Peter tells Flash about Spider-Man, about how he can’t put on his suit without getting really bad flashbacks and panic attacks about what happened. But I didn’t want to turn this story to be about Spider-Man, because it’s not. This isn’t about Spider-Man’s struggles to get the suit back on and save people, this is about Peter’s struggles with mental health and his addiction. In my head Peter told Flash when they were still in high school, sitting on the bleachers in the evening, drinking a bottle of whiskey that Flash stole from his Dad’s liquor cabinet, which would also be the beginning to Peter’s alcoholism. But I ultimately didn’t feel like it was necessary to add to the story. It is something I’m willing to write out in the future though.

It felt really important for me to make everything in the story connect with each other. Peter goes to school at MIT, which is in Boston, where Ned lived when he was an adult (and we know that’s also where Tony went to school), and Peter is in California when he meets Harley again, where MJ went to school (Tony also previously lived in Cali). Everything needed to be connected to the life Peter lost. Which is also why there are so many similarities in Peter’s life now and Tony’s life before he settled down.

Tony went to MIT, well now so does Peter. Tony is an alcoholic with preference for whiskey? Yeah, Peter too. Tony is pretty much alone except for Rhodey? Peter is also alone, but he has Flash. Tony had suicidal and self-destructive tendencies? Peter has only tried killing himself multiple times. By making Peter into a version of Tony, it brings a reference to SM:HC, where Peter says after the ferry boat accident, “I just wanted to be like you” and Tony responds “And I wanted you to be better.” Peter is Tony, he’s just found fame and fortune at a different time, runs his own company and makes ground-breaking research that will help the world.

It’s why Peter is so hurt when he’s called (look a SM:FFH reference) “The Next Tony Stark.” He already is Tony Stark, except he doesn’t have the happiness or the family Tony currently has. Peter just has Flash and his assistant Gwen (just like young Tony only had Rhodey and Pepper). Peter being a version of Tony Stark, he can’t really see an escape. He is so horribly hurt and the only way he can see there being peace in his life is if he isn’t alive. Which is why he continues to try and kill himself.

I didn’t want Peter to die though, I wanted him to find something that would make life tolerable. Which is why I reintroduced Harley. Peter tries to ignore Harley, pretend he doesn’t recognize him, because Peter doesn’t want to remember his past and who he was and what he lost anymore. Harley being there is such a big reminder of who he used to be and who he wants to be, that Peter wants Harley to go away. He doesn’t acknowledge that he knows Harley, even when Harley all but says ‘I’m Harley Keener’ to Peter. At this point in the story Peter made up his mind that he is going to die. There was no other option, but then this beacon of hope shows up and Peter doesn’t want it anymore.

I think by reintroducing Harley it was important to never say that Peter and Harley end up together or that they’re still in contact. I left that pretty open ended because Harley just swooped in at the last second and stopped Peter from killing himself. Peter’s recovery is clearly not an easy one because that was when Peter is 30 and it’s only when Peter turns 32 that he’s one month sober. It was important that you don’t know who is Peter’s family. Because maybe it’s not the Starks or MJ and Ned or Harley or May. Maybe Peter moved on from his past they way they all had and has finally made peace with life, or maybe Peter’s past is now in his life again and he’s happy because he has what he always missed.

Everything in this story was so deliberate and there’s so much that I did that’s just these small little things and I love it so much. I think it was important to see Peter struggle with life and death and his mental illnesses.

So yeah, I’m completely in love with this story and if you guys have any questions about it please send me some asks and I’ll totally answer them, I’m just not over this story yet and I really want to talk about it some more !!

- In conclusion, Kageyama is generally pretty good at social media, but sucks ass at dancing.

4. What is Kageyama’s preferred weather?

- Surprisingly, Kageyama doesn’t like sunny weather. At all.

- For him, it’s the absolute worst thing.

- He think that sunny weather is way too annoying and hot and stuffy and gross.

- Plus, going out for morning runs in sunny weather is like wearing 10 jackets in hell.

- Like you can put on an extra layer if you’re cold but you can’t just strip naked if you’re hot.

- Oh my god he hates it so much it pains him to even think about it.

- He likes rainy days.

- Definitely not his favourite though.

- Rainy days usually mean staying home for the entire day.

- He can just laze around in his house, do whatever he wants.

- The sound of rain against glass windows soothes him.

- The constant sounds of droplets hitting the windows give him a sense of tranquility and peace.

- He will quite literally, fall asleep to those sounds.

- However rainy days do have their drawbacks.

- One of them, is having to stay home.

- Kageyama likes going for runs just to take in some fresh air, but that won’t work when it’s raining cats and dogs now will it.

- Plus, it means everything he does is restricted in his house unless he can get to an indoor gym that’s open.

- Boring.

- So he prefers windy days, when the cold breeze grazes his skin and the sun hides behind the fluffy clouds.

- It’s those days where he doesn’t have to suffer the heat that the sun brings upon him, nor does he have to suffer the feeling of rainwater dripping from the tips of his hair.

- He can do whatever he wants and still feel at ease and comfortable.

- Quite literally everything he asks for in a day.

6. Favourite music?

- Let’s be real, Kageyama probably isn’t good at music.

- He can’t dance or sing to save his life.

- However, he does enjoy how listening to music calms his nerves and gives him a chance to relax, even if he’s in a situation where he should be focused on an assignment or a piece of class work.

- People would expect him to enjoy listening to EDM or alternative rock, but no.

- This boy likes to listen to lofi and love songs.

- This doesn’t mean that his playlist only consists of these two genres, but the majority of songs in his playlist are either chill lofi beats or songs that give you the feels.

- Some of his favourite artists are Jeremy Zucker, Blackbear, Conan Gray, Billie Eilish, Lauv, Clairo, Wallows, Khalid, BENEE, Post Malone, Coldplay, Rex Orange County, Green Day, Shiloh Dynasty, Kina, love-sadKID, and the Arctic Monkeys.

- Has like 5 different playlists for different moods and events.

- One for moody times, one for study beats, one for when he wants throwbacks, one for firing him up before volleyball matches, and one for if he ever has to DJ in the front seat of someone’s car.

- Prefers to listen to music by himself.

- You’re an exception though.

- If he’s with you, you get one earbud, but he’ll be the one choosing the music still.

- You two have pretty contrasting tastes when it comes to music.

- He likes softer songs and lofi the most, whilst you prefer old rock and alternative rock. Oh and also a lot of throwback songs.

- I feel like Kageyama has definitely cried to a few songs when he was going through hard times.

- To him, listening to music is also a way of releasing all the inner conflict and frustrations.

- (Spoiler for backstory) When his grandfather died, he put Fix You on loop for at least 20 minutes.

- He was just numb, curled up into a ball on his bed, staring at the wall. He couldn’t feel anything. Nothing in his mind registered properly. All he could think of, was everything his grandfather had taught him, before he eventually passed away.

- Submerging himself into the melancholy song he was listening to, he didn’t even feel the tears that were now streaming down his face.

- The salty tears were now staining his pillow, creating little wet spots.

- He listened to every single lyric in the song, clutching his sheets harder every time the chorus came up.

- He punched his mattress repeatedly, still unable to accept the fact that someone he held so dear to his heart had just left like the wind.

- It wasn’t long until he was a sobbing mess, shaking and whimpering as he knelt on the bed.

- Silently sang to the lyrics, plopping back to his bed in defeat.

- His sister lingered in front of the door for five whole minutes, eventually leaving to let Kageyama sort out his feelings himself.

- You introduce a ton of new songs to him, since he doesn’t know that much about anything else other than lofi and sad songs.

- Just please no one let him listen to Nickleback. Please. He doesn’t need to know about it.

8. Movie that he would choose for a move nigh?

- The monthly Karasuno volleyball team movie night was finally here, and it was Kageyama’s turn to choose a movie this time, much to Tsukishima’s dismay.

- He’s put a lot of thought into this, not wanting to disappoint his teammates by choosing a shitty movie.

- He basically tried to figure out what everyone wanted to watch.

- However, everyone had very contrasting requests.

- Tsukishima wanted to watch Jurassic Park, Yamaguchi wanted a Disney movie, Hinata wanted something Marvel, Tanaka and Nishinoya wanted a horror movie, (Mainly so they could hit on you whilst you were still single) Sugawara wanted a romcom, Yachi wanted a comedy, and the others were fine with anything.

- He stressed himself out way too much trying to choose one movie.

- He finally got an idea after 3 entire days of thinking.

- And it wasn’t anything the team expected.

- Kageyama pulled up with Pulp Fiction.

- He’s seen that movie at least 5 times already.

- It was the perfect mix of comedy, gore, action, and philosophy.

- Plus, anything that starred Samuel L Jackson was worth a watch.

- Till this day, it remains one of his go to movies, alongside any MCU movie. (Captain America: The First Avenger is definitely his favourite though.)

12. Something small that they enjoy?

- One of the two small things Kageyama enjoys doing is baking cookies.

- Cookies in particular.

- I mean, there really is no detailed explanation.

- He’s pretty good at baking in general, even Tsukishima enjoys the cookies he bakes.

- Plus, he gets to dip the cookies in milk, what’s there not to enjoy?

- Another little thing he enjoys a lot is actually photography.

- Most the time, when he sees a pretty sky, or a city street at nighttime.

- He can’t help himself but snap a few photos here and there.

- Something about a well shot photo just hits different.

- Sometimes, he brings his camera out just to takes nice photos.

- Whenever you two are on dates, he’ll be able to capture candid or motion shots of when you’re just looking out the window of a bus mindlessly, or when you’re twirling around on the street playfully.

- Photos speak a thousand words, and honestly? He lives by that.

14. What is enough to bring him to tears?

- Support.

- Kageyama really needs support from someone he cares about.

- And no, not like support from his teammates.

- That’s different from hearing someone cheer from the stands.

- (Spoiler for backstory) Kageyama’s parents never gave much attention to him, since they were always busy with work. The only person that ever showed support for him was his grandfather, who passed away while he was still young.

- As if that wasn’t enough shit directed towards Kageyama, his teammates abandoned him during a match in junior high not long after the death of his grandfather.

- Which means that Kageyama now has lowkey abandonment issues.

- All through his volleyball journey he never got the support and reassurance he needed.

- He watched in envy as people from opposing teams, or even his own teammates, waved at their family members after they won or lost a match.

- All he could do was stare at the stands, hoping to catch just a glimpse of a family member.

- Nothing.

- Nobody realised how alone Kageyama felt during and after matches, until they watched him break down in tears after a particular match.

- It was the Spring Match against Seijoh, and Karasuno was playing like normal.

- Kageyama was insanely good as usual.

- What he didn’t notice then, was that you had dragged his sister Miwa to the match just so you both could cheer for him.

- In addition to that, you were also wearing his jersey.

- It wasn’t until the final point was scored, did he hear you and Miwa scream from the stands.

- Hearing the familiar voices, his head basically snapped in your direction, scanning the stadium for someone familiar, before landing his eyes on you and his older sister.

- His eyes widened for a hot second, his mind running in circles.

- Nobody has ever cheered for him.

- But here you two were, cheering for him from the stands.

- And you were wearing his jersey.

Writer Meta Meme

I decided to do all the questions on this meme :)

1. Tell us about your current project(s) – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?

My current project is Concubinage, my gaiwin arranged marriage AU. It started as a random, entirely self-indulgent idea, but it has since grown into an actual project. Progress is good, I’ve managed to do bi-monthly updates and I have 30k in my drafts so far.

What I love the most about it is that, since it’s an AU, I’m pretty free to do whatever I want. I don’t have to be too careful of timelines and so on. Plus, in this AU, Gaius and Wingul are able to get closer than they otherwise would, due to the different circumstances. They have their own trials, but it’s different than in the canon timeline.

Another current project is Tales of Xillia Week, but I didn’t get much inspiration for it so I think I’m gonna do meta/headcanon posts more than fics ^^;

2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project

I’m looking forward to getting to the part where it’s just domestic fluff haha. It’ll take a while to reach that point though.

3. What is that one scene that you’ve always wanted to write but can’t be arsed to write all of the set-up and context it would need? (consider this permission to write it and/or share it anyway)

Not just one scene ig, but I’ve been wanting to write one-shots showing how the Chimeriad survived, and... haven’t gotten around to planning it. So it’s pretty low on my project list tbh.

I have... a few, but they’re all spoilers for future chapters XD;;

5. What character that you’re writing do you most identify with?

I don’t... really identify with characters. I mean, they’re pretty different than me in personality, life and circumstances...

I love writing Gaius and Wingul of course, but Agria’s probably the most fun. She’s completely unrestrained, which makes her pretty easy and fun to let loose XD

I used to be more of a ficlet writer, but I’m currently doing well with a longfic XD

As for the rest, it varies. I like to plot and outline a bit, but it’s often rather loose and I let inspiration guide me.

Yep, I post on AO3. And all projects are meant to be posted one day, but some aren’t simply because they aren’t finished.

Tags are easy. Titles and summaries are hard, and I always end up with something boring but heh, as long as they get the meaning across...

16. Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)

It was last year, but I tried first person pov with my Agria fic, because that fits her well. I’d like to try poetry, maybe.

17. Do you think readers perceive your work - or you - differently to you? What do you think would surprise your readers about your writing or your motivations?

I have no idea tbh. When I write, I like to imagine what my readers will think (especially like when I write funny scenes, I hope they’ll make people laugh), but idk if it’s exactly like I think.

18. Do any of your stories have alternative versions? (plotlines that you abandoned, AUs of your own work, different characterisations?) Tell us about them.

In Concubinage, I considered adding a plotline where Arst met an ex and had to deal with complicated feelings about it -- being reminded how it was to be in a loving relationship vs political marriage, craving intimacy like he used to have with said ex, etc. I ended up scrapping the idea though.

I also have... two or three possible ways things can play out in a much later plotpoint, and I think I’m pretty sure of which way I’ll go already, but the other possibilities exist. Maybe I’ll make a post about all abandoned plotlines one day...

19. Is there something you always find yourself repeating in your writing? (favourite verb, something you describe ‘too often’, trope you can’t get enough of?)

Also characters often find themselves doing something before they knew it...

My style is probably pretty repetitive. I’m not a native speaker, and I feel limited sometimes...

20. Tell us the meta about your writing that you really want to ramble to people about (symbolism you’ve included, character or relationship development that you love, hidden references, callbacks or clues for future scenes?)

Concubinage is the result of watching too many sageuk and  taiga drama. No I’m not sorry.

When writing AU, I always like to include “cameo” of the original storyline (for example, as the plot of a book, or treating the canon games as a fractured dimension in Chimeriad Live AU’s, etc)

In Fractured Lives, I try to alternate Wingul and Gaius’ pov. It’s probably gonna bite me in the ass when some plot points work better in one pov but the chapter requires the other. I’ll probably have to come up with some fillers or something...

I have extensive headcanon about Auj Oule’s geography, history etc, which pops up in a lot of (planned) fics. Even if it’s different fics/AU’s (ex. Concubinage vs my pre-game gaiwin project vs the Wingul fic I was writing for the big bang), I reuse the same settings and OC’s. Most of those aren’t written/posted yet so it’s pretty self-contained for now, but if I ever get to completing those projects I hope it won’t be too confusing to readers who don’t follow all the stories...

21. What other medium do you think your story would work well as? (film, webcomic, animated series?)

If I had the art skills, I’d love to turn some of them into comics ;A;

Yes, I love my name. I picked it myself with the help of some of my friends. It comes from a couple different book characters who are both super strong physically and emotionally and they’re honestly an inspiration to me.

The Universal-ness of Casi 40

Oh, The Humanity! (a discussion of the universal-ness of the film's story)

If you’re a romance junkie (the type that’s into cheesy lines and scenes that make you go kilig), you might want to take a step back and think before deciding to watch Casi 40. Based on the film poster alone, one might get the impression that this movie ends in the two characters getting together and living happily ever (as I did), but to be frank, it was the exact opposite of what I expected. From the subtlety of its scenes to the rawness of its dialogue, Casi 40 – a story about love (the real kind), and friendship – is definitely a film to behold.

In this review I’m going to be talking about the universal-ness of the film in terms of its underlying themes in love and friendship, and how these relate to its audience.

The film begins with two friends getting together after 20 years of estrangement. 

Lucia – a well-known musician who chose to leave her career to pursue a family 

– meets up with Tristan – the owner of an eco-friendly cosmetics company (on which the two fervently make fun of during the film’s progression) and a former friend who invites her on cross-city, 5-day concert tour around Spain, in the hopes of helping Lucia jumpstart her music career once again.  

Although the audience was not informed from the beginning, Lucia and Tristan are actually past lovers, as established in a previous film entitled La Buena Vida (The Good Life) released back in 1996. Based on my readings, it was during the events of this film that we see Tristan shine as the hero of his own story, centering on his incapacity to “grow up” as quick as his parents would’ve expected. It was during this time that he had fallen in love (with Lucia) for the very first time, finding comfort in her after enduring hardships following the traumatic death of his parents.

With this information, Casi 40 suddenly turns into a “first love never dies” type of film, and a good one at that. It’s not your typical cliché romantic comedy where the you see the characters end up back together by the end of the film. Instead, you are given a huge slap of reality where in most real cases, the rekindling ends in either heartbreak, or acceptance (SPOILER ALERT: In this film, it ends in the latter)

There are moments in the film where Lucia would question Tristan’s real reasons behind his invitation to a concert tour in the first place (and the fact that Lucia ever considered accepting it! For old time’s sake, I guess?) Beyond the witty and sometimes profane banter between these two characters, both their intentions were made clear during the latter half of the film where Tristan and Lucia get into a deep conversation about their shared past. At one point in their conversation, Lucia accuses Tristan of always “preferring the tale to reality” where in it was implied that Tristan had never fully moved on from his past relationship with Lucia and that his ‘invitation’ to help her jumpstart her music career again was just a blatant attempt to spend time with the only woman he has ever truly loved.

This particular line in the film held on to me because of how it could be easily related to the black & white personalities of the two characters, and more importantly, how it relates to the two universal personalities in the line: “It takes two to break up a relationship”. Lucia, first and foremost, is established as the more dominant personality, the type of person that always gets away with what she wants, but never gets away with what she truly needs. She is the ‘reality’ aspect (case in point where her decision to leave her music career to start a family is constantly brought up).  Whereas Tristan, the submissive, docile and timid personality, seems to be still stuck in the past – in love with Lucia and never truly contented with the present (as seen in the moments wherein he keeps meddling into Lucia’s personal life); he is the ‘tale’ aspect. The primary reason of break-ups in most relationships I’ve come to know both in real life and in fiction, are due to the pairing up of these two, unique personalities, and Casi 40 was remarkably accurate in attempting to portray that.

It is also worth mentioning that the title Casi 40 has both a literal and deeper meaning associated with it. It is amazing to see how each of the characters have taken a far different route in life than the other. With Lucia leading a life of reality and fulfillment and Tristan leading one that is not so, you would think it would’ve been awkward and uncomfortable for Tristan to even meet up with Lucia in the first place. But despite these differences, there was still that familiarity that comes with still being able to connect and laugh about the same things (particularly debating about if gyms are catalysts for health or physical beauty) just as how old friends should.

It is incredibly refreshing to witness what 20 years of separation can do to the relationship of two former lovers, and how oddly normal it is to stay the best of friends even after their strain in romance. It is in the authenticity and rawness that this film shows which makes this a story so relatable to any person of any background who knows what's like to find and then eventually lose a first love (and has been changed by it for the better).

Other thoughts:

For a musical drama, there was more silence than there was actual music. Throughout the entirety of the film, whether there was a tone of seriousness or lack thereof to any one scene, there was little to no background music or sound effects that accompanied it. The heaviness in dialogue was enough to evoke the audience’s emotions and did not seem to need any additional background music to help accentuate the tone. Instead, we are treated with original songs sung by Lucia, some even lasting its entire duration. It’s in this that I’ve come to realize that each song in sung in the film represents a different time in the lives of the protagonists (a good example of this is the contrasting ideas behind the first and last song played in the film. Though I’ve forgotten the title of the first song, it went along the lines and ideas of what it would be like for the singer to be 19 again while sung from a first POV and then comparing it to the last song sung in the film titled after the film’s namesake, whose lyrics would’ve meant that the singer is finally in a place of contentment in her life, hence almost 40.)

It was spectacularly breathtaking seeing Spain in all its splendor. The film did right to stray away from cityscapes and architecture and instead highlighting the grasslands and open fields of the country, which are clearly underrated. It also surprised me how the director opted for the least expected places for the characters to perform in during their ‘concert’ tour. Every time Lucia and Tristan would find a new bookstore to perform in I would find myself paying attention to the performances more closely (which may have been the reason why the director chose this route), contrary to a real on set stage or even a simple bar (as Lucia had expected from the start)

The camera shots! This film had the least mobility when it came to angles and video shots – the cameras only moved when the characters did, allowing for the audience to become part of the characters’ journey and experiences and feel every ounce of emotion the characters felt at each particular time.

Lastly, this film reminded so much of the movie Begin Again starring Mark Ruffalo and Keira Knightley - guy meets girl, guy helps girl, but guy and girl don’t end up being together - same banana. The only difference between the two is their different takes on embellishment of reality and maturity. Casi 40 to me had a far different outlook when it came to the deliverance of its message. You’d have to have actually experienced those situations and emotions for you to appreciate the film as it is, whereas in Begin Again, it was fairly easier to understand because of how direct to the point it is in terms of plot and storyline. I enjoyed both films though and that’s what matters.
