I saw Inside Out 2, and I loved it!

The thing I liked a lot that I don’t see many people talking about though is the portrayal of Envy and how influential her mindset actually is on Riley throughout the movie.

Envy’s adorable, and she means well, but she really matches the definition of envy as “a negative mix of admiration and discontent”.

It’s interesting to have a personification of Envy that leans so heavily on the “admiration” to the point that her presence doesn’t SEEM negative, but the thing about her is that she SO admires people like Anxiety or the Firehawks that she’s compelled to mirror them uncritically, which then opens the door for Riley to mirror uncritically as she loses her sense of self. The movie righty puts Anxiety as the driving force of the conflict, but I genuinely think Anxiety might not have spiraled quite so quickly without Envy “yes and”ing her constantly.

It’s a really interesting dynamic.

Guys, do you think the reason why Siffrin was asking everyone what they planned to do after they defeated the king before any the loops started was because they were trying to prompt a conversation about still going on adventures without asking directly if anyone wanted to?

Like trying to gauge their reaction a see what their plans were because they didn’t want to get in the way if they had more important things planned
