my biggest issue with the httyd live action-and just about any live action reboot is that it seems that the live action adaptations are being made to make the original “better”? like, so many people talk about a live action spiderverse, a live action hercules, a live action PRINCE OF EGYPT (dont piss me OFF.)-like animation is a beautiful work of art, and for some reason putting real people and cgi in it is supposed to be an “upgrade”? im probably being that friend that’s too woke or whatever, but i just think it’s so disrespectful to act like something that takes so much time and effort and energy is immediately considered as lower because it is animated. animation is beautiful, and it is one of the most heartfelt art forms there are, and erasing that for the sake of a cash grab is downright degrading to animation as a medium.

Because they represent different things. Betty represents Veronica letting go of her naivety and those girls that would join the Heathers if they had the chance to, like Heather Duke said: "you really think Betty Finn wouldn't abandon her little nerd friends if her fairy godmother made her into a badass?" (At least I think this is what she said, I only l remember the line in italian). While Martha in the movie is a representative of the ignored students with no friends that the adults don't care for, the kind that wouldn't join the Heathers even if she could because of how cruel they can be, thats why Veronica joins her in the end, because she gets her now. I get why they had to make them the same character since the musical couldn't have also focused on Betty, but its important to know that they are two different characters who are written in different ways.

As much as I like the Heathers movie I can't help but agree that the musical is better for several reasons

Like, for one, Why weren't Betty Finn and Martha Dunstock the same character? Even before I watched the musical I felt like they should have been one character instead of two different ones.

one of my absolute favourite tiny details is cousland’s nan insisting the warden start the telling of a childhood story, and instead of, i don’t know, “once upon a time”, cousland’s cultural go-to is before our fathers’ fathers came down from the moutains. cousland has chantry tutors but at their nanny’s knee it was alamarri folk tales, not andraste and the wyvern. i think that’s so interesting and it’s one of the jumping-off points for my take that highever let andrastianism colour its culture and traditions more so than change them, in contrast to a centre of pilgrimage and of royalty like denerim, which is more closely interlinked with, and perceived by, andrastians outside ferelden’s borders. cousland to me is always saying some slightly off brand stuff they don’t realise is weird (read: heresy) while alistair and wynne raise eyebrows at each other
