People will say it's bad to identify as Queer, but idk why. Aside from the fact it's used to demean and hurt people, but so is the word gay??? I've heard more people use gay as an insult than the word queer?? Obviously this doesn't mean people never use queer as an insult, but usually people just say gay, yet gay isn't seen as a slur.

Also why is it so bad for me to say that I am? Maybe it's just easier than explaining wtf a demiromantic spinelian asexual demiboy is. Cishets gets so fucking defensive over lgbtq things when they don't understand, I do not have the spoons to explain every single thing about me. I can't even just say I'm nonbinary without some cishets flipping shit.

I don't usually call myself queer because I hang around people who are open to understanding or already understand these things, but once I go outside of the more niche side of the lgbtq community and beyond that to the cishets I'm basically an intimidating alien if I say what I am.

I will respect you and not use the word around you if you're uncomfortable with it, but keep an open mind if I say terms you don't understand since I can't simplify it as easily without the word.

Unless y'all have a better idea of an umbrella term that's short, sweet and to the point then I'm all ears. If not, shush and let people have their identities.

This term can apply to anybody who experiences attraction to nonbinary people and women in a way that nonbinary people and men do. A spinelian may, for example, have multiple genders that include nonbinary and male or be genderfluid.

Clearing up some useful terms!

Hello, today I’m going to be talking about X-l-X and the associated terms (the juvelic system)!

Most will already be familiar with terms like wlw, mlm, nblnb, but there are a whole slew more that combine identities. For example, someone who is attracted to women, and is both nonbinary and a woman (or nonbinary and woman-aligned) can use nblw, wlw, AND nbwlw!

Most will also be familiar with terms like sapphic for wlw, achillean for mlm, but there are many more for each different X-l-X! This is called the juvelic system, and it can be a very handy way of saying both your gender and attraction in one word! Of course, there’s always nuance, but I find these terms are not just helpful but often pretty, as quite a few are named after astronomical objects and gemstones! This post has a good table of those identities as well as some definitions, but I figured I should go through them! More under the cut :)

If you id solely as a man:

And that’s all 49 juvelic identities! I myself use versian to describe myself, although pearlian is also an accurate descriptor. On this blog, I try to focus on people who are both nonbinary and pan, and versian, pearlian, and for some nonbinary people, anfisian, courscatian, luminian, and serendibitian all fit that bill! Of course, there are plenty for any variety of non-pan enbies, and a few for non-enby pans (taaffetian, marblic)!

So you see, the juvelic system can be very useful! Of course, no one has to adopt these terms or replace their labels with these, but I feel it creates a nice blend of everything. I suppose the one issue it has is no inclusion of those who identify with no gender, like agender or neutrois people, but, like everything else, that can change! The juvelic system is particularly well suited to change like that. Additionally, there is no indication if an attraction is sexual or not, thereby excluding aces and aros. For those reasons, I feel this system is best utilized alongside rather than replacing traditional labels. Also, I am, as I’m sure many of you are, quite attached to the labels I use, and wouldn’t want to give them up for a new system, but regardless, I use it alongside the labels pan and nonbinary.

I hope this was informative and helpful, and may have helped some people find new labels or terms. On a closing note, nbandproud, the OP of the post about juvelic identities I linked to at the beginning, created some symbols for a few of the identities listed in this post, and I myself use their versian symbol (see DNI banner and icon). I would be open to creating some more if anyone would like to request, and not just for the juvelic system but for anything really! Thanks for reading.
