thinking about peter listening to the most dramatic soul crushing music outloud while everyone around him grows more and more concerned.

they all use discord and peter has his spotify connected, so they see the songs he listens to throughout the day and natasha is more than concerned when she catches him listening to mitski while doing his calculus homework— she’s ready to offer some sort of.. comfort, but peter just grins at her and seems totally fine— happy even, it’s unnerving.

peter happily working away in the lab with his “swinging around nyc at four am on an empty stomach while the sound of the rain overwhelms my senses and i am mid or post breakdown.” playlist and tony walks in and starts looking up therapist offices immediately after.

wanda and him make playlists together all the time so she’s accustomed to his music and taste, but every so often she see’s a song and has to fight the urge to hug him.

steve doesn’t know any of the songs peter listens to, he decided to look at the few public playlists peter has and is at sams door hours later asking if “spotify is a call for help?”

like the racist headcanons, the not taking accountability for your disturbing fics about him because “HIS AGE ISNT MENTIONED!!” like don’t act dumb, you know them people said that he’s a slight older boy than miles which would be like 1-2 years, making him 16-17. it’s also just the “i want his dick inside of me” “i want to have his kids” and the sex hcs where it’s like “he’ll fuck you hard and not give you aftercare, just leaves you to take care of yourself.”

i’m not really bothered by the smut fics and hcs cause he is attractive and i will read them every once in awhile but y’all be taking it to the extremes, calling him toxic, making him out like some abusive boyfriend, he’s only sweet when he wants you to have sex with him, he only wants you for sex, he’s a full person but only cool because he’s in a band and has sex with you, he lets his band mates fuck you without your consent, he rapes you for whatever reason (y’all’s writings not mine), he doesn’t care about stopping to see if you’re okay or if you need a break.

basically what i’m seeing is that he’s only good for sex and some of the good fics about him only portray certain parts of him. like i’m all for writing about your favorite characters n what not but if you’re basically gonna treat his character like you’re personal boytoy and not see him as anything else, it’s really harmful. especially with y’all not tagging your fics correctly and the smut fics i previously mention get seen by a minor who would want to read smut of him but not that bullcrap.

y’all literally write him being abusive to his partner, not just physically but call it “teasing”. i’m sorry but if my partner said something about breaking up with me or that i’m not good enough, would i think that that’s just “teasing”? like honestly, if you treat all your ‘blorbos’ like this then i feel sorry for you because hobie’s an amazing character that isn’t just there for you to dream about fucking and getting pregnant by him.

he’s there to show you how corruption and fascism impacting your way of life can lead to you wanting to rebel and become an anarchist to that society. he’s there to teach you that you can make your rules, that you’re more than what one person tells you, you tell yourself what you wanna be. he’s a symbol for black people who don’t wanna follow the rules of a white supremacist, fascist society, for the people who’ve ever just been like “fuck the government, i’m my own person.”

i really feel like y’all take him for granted and he is a character for a children’s type of media so the “well minors shouldn’t be looking for his smut!!” doesn’t work here. honestly, do y’all ever care about characters that aren’t perceived as “fuckable” or “attractive” by your standards? it just really pisses me off because y’all act like that’s all he’s there for, your yearning for BBC has really dimmed your perception of this character. Can we talk more about miles outsmarting EVERY Spider-Man in the spider society?!

The FIFTEEN YEAR OLD managed to trick even the most experienced spider people to leave their base unguarded so that he could get back home.

And you know why it worked? Because they underestimated him. They viewed him as an anomaly, unworthy, a mistake and he USED that. He made it seem like he didn’t have a plan and was just running wild. Everyone else was playing checkers but miles was playing mother fucking 4D CHESS with their asses. Miles stared at Miguel right in the face and essentially said gotcha bitch

Because miles refuses to be bond by canon. He is not bond to the rules. He refuses to ever be put into a box, refuses to let other people expectations dictate his actions. He writes his own destiny, not because he’s an anomaly, but because he has the will, skill, and power to. That’s his strength: people underestimating his abilities until he is able to pull the rug right out form under their raggedy shoes.

I think it'd be really funny that when Pavitr and Gayatri attend college they meet Meera, Gayatri's "long time best friend". It's funnier later on when Pavitr gets a crush on Meera and is sweating buckets trying to figure out how he should tell Gayatri that he likes a girl other than his girlfriend. And not just any girl, her best friend.

He's rounding a corner, hyping himself up to tell her the truth and envisioning a million possible wrong scenarios, when he turns and sees Gayatri and Meera kissing passionately in front of him.

in 9319 it's a little less clean-and-dry because actually. actually. 9319 peter is a wonderful case of scale-balancing all the time. he's entirely unpredictable - particularly in the mask - so i don't think we can safely just assume that johnny would bottom. i know, i'm rocking your entire worldview right now.

Ultimate Spider-Man #6 Discussion

          So, it’s been a whole month since this issue came out and I really have been waiting to talk about this issue. I’m going to spoil a lot in here so if you have not read this issue then please look away now. I think this issue is very much worth your time and money for the story it tells and the art that is inside of it.

To kind of keep this discussion simple, I’ll separate this discussion into two parts: “The Kingpin Fight” and “The Family Finding Out About Peter”.

The Kingpin Fight:

          I just want to first say, I am so glad Marco Checchetto is back because he truly shines in these more action-packed issues. Also, I really loved Peter and Harry’s interaction with the Kingpin in this issue because it showed how truly unprepared both Harry and Peter are in being a superhero/vigilante and how they they’re kind of unaware of how much danger they’re putting themselves in. The first showcase of that is the page where they’re talking about breaking into the Kingpin’s house:

The way they’re talking on this page feels more like two kids being up to no good rather than two adult vigilantes that have a concrete plan. Also, I like that little interaction where Harry uses Peter’s real name in this situation rather than using a codename. It really shows that Harry can be pretty careless and doesn’t really think about his “secret” identity at all. He did tell Gwen everything immediately, so he doesn’t really worry too much about keeping his secrets unlike Peter. This page also shows how he can be too overconfident and still thinks he has the upper hand against the Kingpin, which is a very terrible idea because the Kingpin should never be underestimated in any universe. In fact, the Kingpin knows that they’ve been watching him for awhile and was just waiting for them to make their move:

Once again, I’m going to say I love Marco Checchetto’s art. I think that page where they break into the Kingpin’s window is so beautifully done. I just love the action poses that Peter and Harry are doing as they crash into the Kingpin’s house. I also love how in these two pages you see the Kingpin be so calm and pretend that he wasn’t expecting these two to break in at some point because the reality is that he’s very much aware of these two watching him, which kind of makes me question: “what else is he aware of?”. Does he have security cameras all over the city? Does that mean he knows who Peter and who his family is? My point is that Kingpin is set up to be a really big villain in this issue. He's not like the Shocker where he’s your starter villain/smalltime villain. He’s the guy at the end of it all. As Harry said earlier in the issue: “This is the guy behind the guy.” Kingpin is a big deal in this universe and these two just underestimated him. In fact, I don’t even know what their plan is. When I was reading this issue, as soon as they crashed into Kingpin’s place, my first thought was: “what are they doing?” because they didn’t really lay out a plan. I think they expected to beat up the Kingpin, maybe get some answers from him, and then hand him to the cops. That’s it, but I’m not even sure if they thought that far ahead. I think their naiveness and unawareness of the danger they’re in could possibly get one of them killed one day.

          I think this fight showcases very well how unprepared these two are and how much they didn’t really think of how dangerous this life could be. The scene that I think really represents the idea that idea is the scene after Kingpin threw the heavy drawer chest at Harry:

I really love this scene because Peter is so shocked that the Kingpin would try to kill Harry. Of course, the Kingpin is trying to kill you guys, Peter! You just broke into his house and are trying to hurt him! This guy is a bad guy. What did you guys think? He was just going to confess to his sins and then let you capture him? I think this page shows really well the naiveness of Peter specifically. We’ve seen that a lot in the past issues. Specifically, with how he handled the Shocker in the second issue. He’s still learning about this world, and I like these scenes where he doesn’t really know the danger that he’s putting himself in because going after the Kingpin is pretty much putting a massive target on your back and he needs to know that. I’ll expand more on this in the second part of this discussion as well, but this naivety is going to get someone killed at some point.

This encounter with the Kingpin doesn’t really go the way Harry and Peter intended. They actually get the hell beaten out of them. Specifically, Peter, who just get punched on the face by the Kingpin multiple times:

Once again, just going to say I love seeing Marco Checchetto’s art and I love looking at this spread. What I love about it is how it really showcases the Kingpin’s size against Peter’s. Kingpin looks like he can squash Peter like a bug in this panel and he pretty much does. Also, a question about Kingpin: What did he do to his body? Because earlier in the issue while he was beating Harry, he talks about him undergoing some sort of self-improvement and now he has these markings in his body that were not there before. Previously, in issue 5, we see him without his shirt on and he did not have any of these tattoos on his body, so they’re probably the reason why he’s stronger. I’m excited to find out what he did because he comes off like an unstoppable force and a big threat in this issue. After this beating, Harry and Peter both escape with bruised bodies and bruised egos.

The Kingpin in Ultimate Spider-Man #5:

          The way both Harry and Peter got beaten in this issue reminded me of the tenth issue of the Original Ultimate Spider-Man by Brian Michael Bendis. In that issue, Peter meets the Kingpin and Peters gets immediately knocked out by Electro, which then allows the Kingpin to unmask him and throw him out of his Tower:

At least in this new Ultimate Spider-Man, Peter didn’t get unmasked immediately and the Kingpin doesn’t know that Peter is underneath that costume. Although, the way the Kingpin was portrayed this issue makes me worry that he does know who Peter and Harry are; he’s clearly a powerful and an influential man, so if he wanted to know who they are he probably has a way. I’m hoping he never finds out though.

The Family Finding Out About Peter:

          This issue also gave us Peter revealing his double life as a superhero to his family, which came about because of the beating that the Kingpin gave Peter. As soon as Peter came out with those bruises, May pretty much blurted out about Peter being a superhero:

I really like that May blurted out the secret by accident because that feels natural to me. Like of course she wouldn’t be able to keep that big of a secret, she’s a young child and she’s seeing her dad with this many bruises. She was probably worried and shocked. I really like the fact that the secret is out within the family, so we won’t have to worry about Peter keeping secrets from his wife and kids. What I don’t like however is how MJ took this whole story. So, When Peter finished the story of how Kingpin beat him and Harry, there was some worry from the family but there’s also some understanding and trust that Peter needs to do this to stop the Kingpin from doing awful things. However, once Peter and MJ are alone, they start talking more:

I thought that once they started talking alone, without the kids, that we’ll finally see MJ get angry at Peter, I was actually kind of expecting it, but that’s not what happens. MJ actually tells Peter that she’s proud of him, which I was shocked by because if I was in MJ’s position and Peter told me that story of him and Harry getting beaten up by the Kingpin, I’d be mad. First, because it would mean that Peter has been lying to me for 6 months; and second, because Peter pretty much put our family’s lives in danger. Peter doesn’t truly know that nobody knows he’s Spider-Man. He hasn’t been really good at hiding his identity. I mean a lot of people know right now that he’s Spider-Man and it’s just been 6 months. Tell me if I’m being too critical or negative here, but I feel like this is an overcorrection of Peter and MJ’s main universe relationship. Yes, I would like to see MJ and Peter be supportive of one another, but I don’t want that at the expense of MJ’s character. I don’t like how MJ and Peter are right now in the main 616 universe, but that doesn’t mean that I’m just going to take whatever I can get of them. Like I said, if I’m being too critical on this scene then let me know. It just doesn’t sit well with me that MJ wouldn’t be worried about the danger Peter has put himself and their family in. This is my only problem with this issue by the way. I still did like the scenes that follow after where they’re messing around in Peter’s suit. I also really like the idea that MJ gives Peter the superhero name “Spider-Man”:

I like that MJ names Peter and thought it was sweet because it shows us that Peter’s whole Spider-Man identity is linked with his family. May gave him his superhero costume design in issue 3; and now, MJ gave him his superhero codename. I wonder what Peter’s son is going to give him in terms of being Spider-Man in the next issues to come. I’m thinking that he might be his tech guy at some point because this Peter doesn’t seem like he’s scientifically minded like his main universe counterpart. Also, I just want to say again that I love Marco Checchetto’s art, and I love how he drew MJ and Peter swinging outside of New York City at night in that last page.

          So that concludes Ultimate Spider-Man’s first arc, and I honestly really enjoyed it. If you’ve been reading these discussions for awhile you know there are stuff, I have a problem with not just with MJ’s characterization this issue but also Peter’s motivations as Spider-Man. Although, the more issues come out of this series, the less I worry about Peter’s motivation because his motivations are starting to form more and more. I think this was a great first arc. Although, I really wish we got more of Peter being a smalltime hero in this first arc to show that he is trying to do good out there. Some superhero responsibilities that are not so action packed and shows that Peter wants to help people out even in the smallest ways. Also, we have not seen Uncle Ben and Jonah for two issues, and I hope we see them soon because I miss those guys and I really want to know what happens with them and “The Paper”. I’m also excited about what happens with Harry after this loss against Kingpin because I have a feeling that he might not take it well.

So how do ya'll feel about Gwen's relationship with her dad being a reflection of her own arc with Miles?

As in, Gwen begins the story with the ultimate betrayal when her father chooses an oppressive institution over someone he cares about - his own daughter

Because he is blinded by ignorance and the idea that 'he's doing good' despite being clearly weaponized towards those he cares about.

And then Gwen experiences the same thing when she finds herself choosing the Society and it's control over the multiverse over Miles - someone she cares deeply about.

And how her journey and reconnection with her father is all centered around how now institution or entity is worth sacrificing who you are and who you love

and that by leaving the force and the Spider society and choosing to act against their wishes is their first step to healing their relationship with those that they've hurt with their complacency

For Officer Stacy, that being Gwen. And for Gwen, that being Miles?

Is it that Gwen falls into the same faults as her father - like allowing an institution to dictate her sense of right and wrong, or betraying those she cares about ‘for the better good’? Do you think growing up with a cop as a father influenced her decision-making in ATSV, even in subtle ways?
