Can't Get Enough
am I back writing for kanera after a whole year away? that's a solid maybe! but I have finished this epilogue to Reflections in a Broken Mirror which I started a year ago and I am sharing it, as ever, in the hopes that other people enjoy it as much as I enjoy other people's fic.
rating: explicit (sexual content); kanan jarrus/hera syndulla; 1.9k words
---
Something had felt ever so slightly different since Kanan had woken up, but as soon as Hera led him through the strange doorway he felt it all slot back into place.
He was home.
He felt Hera turn her head back to look at where they’d just come from and stretched out his senses. He could feel… Something behind him, something that was both there and not, that seemed to only exist in two dimensions but somehow also in another one that wasn’t the usual third. A fourth dimension. He could feel it getting smaller, shrinking down into its centre until–
"It’s gone." Hera’s words were calm. He heard her turn back to him. "And you’re here."
Her arms were around him in an instant, a vice gripping his chest and holding him so tightly it was like she would never let go. Her nose pressed into his neck and he felt her chest expand as she inhaled, breathing in deeply. He in turn breathed in the scent of her, his nose to her flight cap to get the familiar leatheris and engine oil and Hera scent he loved so much.
Her face shifted slightly and her nose was replaced with the rough drag of her tongue over his neck. It was completely unexpected; arousal hit him like a punch in the gut. Her tongue became teeth, nipping at his skin, lips pressing kisses up the column of his throat. He could tell that it was both a reaction to him being back in her arms (after seven months, apparently) and driven by the desire that had overtaken her too. The time apart hadn’t changed anything between them; he was still just as attuned to her, to her emotions and her body even if now her body was very different to how he remembered.
Her lips reached his jaw and then a hand tangled in his hair to drag his mouth down hard against hers. She kissed him like she was trying to make up for every missed kiss of the last seven months, and while it hadn’t been so long for him he gladly returned her fervour, always willing to give Hera what she needed.
Hera came up for air and he could just imagine the look in her eyes that said she begrudged her body the need to breathe. He could feel the hunger in her, the strength with which she wanted him, but also a determination he knew all too well. She grabbed his hand and all but dragged him several steps over the flat, grassy ground.
"In here," she ordered, pushing him through a door he hadn’t expected to find out here. "It’s a supply container, we’ve been building– oh, you’ll find out later."
He heard the door slam shut behind them and then his back hit a wall with a dull thud. The supply container smelled musty and vaguely familiar but he wasn’t able to work out why before Hera was pressing herself urgently against him.

📖
OOOOOH okay excuse me while I go off about a crossover inspired by one of my childhood favorite books, aka Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie Tolan.
I call this the Surviving the Spectres AU!
So, the premise is that Kanan and Hera, along with their respective siblings, Ahsoka and Zeb, run a sort-of-homeschool for their kids. Said kids are Ezra (kanera's 17-year-old adopted son), Jacen (kanera's 4-year-old biological son), and Luke and Leia (ahsoka's 17-year-old niece and nephew, who she has custody of.) They have a mostly peaceful, serene life (they do admittedly have an evil goat named chopper who likes to attack everyone, but… besides that it's very peaceful and serene!!), until.....
Enter Sabine.
Sabine is a Bad Kid. She has lots of piercings and spiky green hair and possibly a tattoo, nobody really knows for certain, and there isn't a school left in the state who will accept her.
Except, of course, for the Spectre Academy.
They take her in as kind of a lost-cause-project. She's standoffish and unpleasant at first, but gradually warms up to them--she joins Luke's ballet class (it seemed like the least exhausting PE program of the Spectre Academy... BOY, was she wrong!), helps Ezra with his Wildlife Photography project, learns from Leia how to make bouquets that are actually insults in flower language, and unintentionally makes Jacen want green hair.
And then there's this whole sideplot with a musical--in the original book it was The Sound Of Music, but I think it would be pretty fitting if it was Aladdin in this AU. Basically, the dad in the story—Kanan in this AU—is the director of a local musical in the nearest town. He’s struggling to cast the musical; there’s one character who he just can’t figure out. In the original book, it’s a side character, but in this AU, it’s the main character. And Kanan is like, “WHO COULD POSSIBLY PLAY THE MAIN CHARACTER?! I’d cast Ezra, he looks the part, but sadly he just can’t sing…” and Ezra gives Sabine this look like don’t you DARE and Sabine is like “actually :) kanan :) when ezra and i were working on the Wildlife Photography project :) we spent a lot of time wandering around in the woods :) and we sang a lot to pass the time :) so he’s pretty good now :)” and ezra is like “i hate you”
Anyway ezra ends up playing aladdin and eventually the rest of the family pitches in and it ends with them putting on the play in their barn!
Also, Yoda is there and he cooks really spicy food.

A World Once Broken
Rated: NR (T with clearly marked and easily skipped spiciness)
Word Count: 72,041
Sixteen years after leaving Ryloth with only her ship, her astromech, and her hopes of seeing the galaxy freed of Imperial rule, General Hera Syndulla is finally going home.
Home, to the small bit that remains of her broken family after the war raged on.
What do you do when you get home to your Force-sensitive five year old who has started insisting that he can talk to his long-dead father? What do you do when you can no longer bury your grief in another battle? What do you do when you're supposed to trust in the Force when it was the Force that tore your family apart, even if it was for the good of the galaxy?
Most importantly, how do you live a life in peace when war and loss is all that you've ever known?
This is a story of love, loss, faith, hope, and finding healing with your family in the most unexpected of ways.

~
Kanan woke in the span of a single heartbeat, his eyes snapping open to the never ending darkness of his vision. He reached out into the Force, spreading his awareness out like a net, searching for the threat that had pulled him from sleep. He lay perfectly still as the seconds ticked by, waiting for his prey to make a move, his body tensed and ready to jump into action. Hera shifted beside him on the bed, a soft snore falling from her lips, breaking the spell that had fallen over him.
He was with Hera. He was safe.
Slowly Kanan relaxed his muscles, exhaling as he retreated back into himself, his grip on the Force loosening.
He focused on Hera beside him. He could sense her slow, deep breathing, her presence like a glowing crystal of pure radiance in the Force. Even in sleep she burned brighter than all the living things on the moon. Kanan sunk into her gentle light, the familiar smell of her skin and warmth of her body wrapping around him, grounding him.
Then he heard it, the noise that had woken him. A small cry, muffled by distance and filled with sticky discomfort that raced across his skin. With a sigh, Kanan tossed aside the covers and pushed himself to his feet. The scars on his back protested the movement, twinging unpleasantly as he stood. Kanan breathed harshly through his nose as he waited for the pain to pass before navigating his way across the floor.
Hera’s room was much larger than her cabin back on the Ghost. There was more space to get lost in, more opportunity to trip over an errant tool or forgotten datapad. Hera’s cabin was familiar, it was safe. Kanan knew how to make his way around it with his eyes closed long before Maul had stolen his sight. But her quarters on Yavin were closer to the med bay which was the only reason the medical droid had agreed to discharge him. He would just have to learn to adapt.
Kanan had proven time and time again that he was good at adapting.
He leaned into the Force, using it and his other senses to guide his way safely across the floor. His still healing injuries made his trek to the cradle on the other side of the room longer than it should have been, much to his frustration. He leaned heavily on the crutch he had been given and followed the sense of discomfort until he eventually reached the source of the disruption.
Kanan’s hand found the edge of the cradle and followed it down until his fingers met soft fabric. Bending slightly, his back once again protesting, he scooped the withering bundle up and tucked it into the crook of his elbow. Jacen fussed as he was moved, squirming against his side with pitiful little cries. Kanan made a shushing noise, bouncing him gently in his arm while pushing calming waves through the Force. The baby in his arm responded to the motion with little coos, his body relaxing as Kanan stepped out onto the small balcony.
Being a general in the rebellion certainly had its perks.
Nights on Yavin IV were slightly less hot than the days. The oppressive heat that sank down through the atmosphere while the sun blazed in the sky was tempered by a cool breeze that rustled the treetops, though it couldn’t completely wipe out the lingering humidity. Kanan hated it. In fact, there wasn’t much about Yavin that he did like. He longed for the bitter winds that whipped up from the prairies, the spicy scent of the tall grasses, and the clarity of the Force that always felt so natural on Lothal.
Yavin was twisted with darkness. It lingered everywhere Kanan went, creeping in the shadows of his mind, crawling against his skin like spiders. Something evil had lived here, so evil that its stain could still be felt thousands of years later. If Kanan meditated hard enough, he could hear the echoes of a battle, feel the haunted laughter that whispered through the clinging vines, see the faint shadow of a mask in his mind’s eye followed by a flash of red and purple.
But all was quiet tonight as he sat down in one of the metal chairs Hera had dragged out onto the terrace. Gingerly, he propped his feet up against the stone parapet, resting his son against his thighs. Kanan worked at the blanket, pulling back the folds to free Jacen from its warm embrace. The little baby sighed in contentment as the blanket fell away, his discomfort slowly easing.
Kanan smiled, letting his fingers travel up Jacen’s sides, over his small shoulders to his round face. As gently as he could, he traced his features, committing his face to his memory. He had Hera’s nose, the same gentle slope that came to a pleasing point but had Kanan’s brow and high cheekbones. His ears were pointed and his hair was soft to the touch. According to Zeb, it was the color of Spine tree needles, a deep shade of green that Kanan found amusing. Hera said his skin was dark like his but with random splotches of green a shade lighter than her own.
He was perfect.
It struck Kanan then, just how close he had come to not getting the opportunity to meet his son. If he had died in that explosion like he intended, he never would have gotten the chance to watch him grow. But the Force, it seemed, had other plans for him and Kanan certainly wasn’t going to turn down a second chance at life.
Kanan felt a surge of panic in the Force, cutting through the relative peace of the night. Hera was awake. He could hear her fumbling around in the room, her heartbeat loud and frantict.
“We’re out here.” he called knowing that she would be able to hear him. Seconds later, he heard her step out onto the balcony.
Kanan felt a surge of guilt at the trail of panic that followed her. She didn’t like waking up alone, not since he had returned. “I didn’t mean to scare you.” he apologized.
“It’s okay.” she responded softly, the warmth of her hand touching the back of his neck. “What are you two doing out here?”
“He was fussy.”
Hera rested her chin on the top of his head, her arms wrapping around him.
“One of these days, he’s gonna sleep through the night.” she said tiredly, with an edge of disbelief.
“Maybe we shouldn’t wrap him up like he’s living on Pantora.”
“The doctor said he has to stay warm and it gets cold at night here.” Hera tisked, her words sending vibrations down his spine.
“Not that cold.” he chuckled.
“Well, he needs to get used to it. Space is cold and we’re going to be spending a lot of time on the Ghost.”
Jacen’s little hand wrapped itself around Kanan’s larger finger. “Are you sure you’re ready to leave all this behind?” he asked.
Hera’s arms tightened around him. “Ezra’s waited long enough. It’s time to bring him home.”
It was time to bring Ezra home. His former padawan’s absence was like a hollow ache in Kanan’s soul, a thread of connection that had been pulled too tight, stretched far beyond its capabilities. Sabine had commed a few days ago saying that she and Ahsoka had found a lead on his location. For the first time in months they had hope and with the Empire still reeling from the destruction of their Death Star, Hera had agreed that it was time to leave the fighting behind and set out for their wayward crew member.
He knew Hera lived with guilt for choosing the rebellion over finding Ezra but he could understand her decision. Ezra was gone, leaving next to no trace as to where he had vanished too and the threat of the Empire was greater than it had ever been. She chose to deal with the problem that was more pressing. But that didn’t mean she liked having to wait to find the boy that was her son in every way but blood.
“We’ll find him.” he told her, tilting his head up to kiss the underside of her jaw. He heard her breathe shakily before her warmth left him. There was the scrape of metal against stone as she dragged the other chair over, positioning next to his. Her bed clothes rustled as she sat down, her body pressed up against his. He felt her arm wrap around his, her head falling onto his shoulder.
“Are you ready to meet your brother?” Hera asked Jacen, her voice pitching up an octave.
Kanan smiled at the thought of Ezra and Jacen together. “They are going to be a terror.”
Jacen gurgled in agreement.
“Oh definitely.” she chuckled, stifling a yawn. Kanan clenched his jaw, holding back his own admission of sleepiness. In his lap, he could feel Jacen start to succumb to the need to rest now that he was no longer confined in the warm heat of his blanket. Kanan pried his finger free from Jacen’s hold and picked him up, settling his small body against his chest. He felt Hera shift beside him as she kissed his cheek.
Kanan closed his eyes against the ever present darkness. When Kanan had stood on the top of the fuel pod, he knew that his life was coming to an end. He had accepted his fate, regardless of how much it had hurt to leave them behind. It was the will of the Force.
But he was still alive. He had Hera and his son and his family. He was alive because the Force willed it. And tomorrow, they would leave Yavin behind for good. Tomorrow, they were going to bring Ezra home.
He was with Hera. He was safe.
For the first time in a long time, Kanan was truly happy.

Obey
"You gave me a direct order earlier," Kanan said in a soft voice. "I did." Hera's response was barely more than a whisper. "And I obeyed," he continued. "You did." "I think now it's your turn to obey." She swallowed. "Yes, Kanan."
This was sparked by a throwaway line in Making It Official but you really don't need to read it to know what's going on. It's PWP, after all – the plot got left behind somewhere.
rating: explicit (sexual content, BDSM); kanan jarrus/hera syndulla; 3.3k words
---
At the end of each day of being Captain and crew, Kanan and Hera would retreat to her cabin where they could be just themselves. That was when they would allow themselves to forget about the Empire and any rebellion, when they could just think of each other and enjoy being together.
Tonight, Kanan was waiting in the doorway for Hera to return from the 'fresher.
"Did you want some tea, love?" she called.
He shook his head. "No tea tonight."
He indicated into her cabin. She gave no outward indication that she understood, but he didn't need to see one. She knew exactly what he was looking for before they went to sleep tonight and told him she was more than willing to participate by following him inside without a word.
Kanan heard the door hiss shut behind her. Turning, he saw her waiting with a small smile playing at her lips and a single eyebrow raised in anticipation. He took a quick step forward, forcing her back against the bulkhead, and followed the movement by slapping one hand against the durasteel just next to her head with a dull thud. Immediately the smirk was wiped off her face, replaced with wide eyes darkening from arousal.
"You gave me a direct order earlier," he reminded her in a soft voice.
"I did." Her response was barely more than a whisper.
"And I obeyed," he continued.
"You did."
"I think now it's your turn to obey."
She swallowed. "Yes, Kanan."
He slid the hand that was against the bulkhead over to where one lek was pressed against the durasteel. He stroked his way over the sensitive skin, feeling it quiver under his touch, until he reached where it joined her head and traced a finger along the line of her jaw.
"Kneel."

last series: Moon Knight; I am already so deeply in love with Steven that it hurts, oof
sweet, spicy, savory: All three! (not at the same time)
coffee or tea: Tea
three ships: I’ll stick with Star Wars: Thranto, Kanera, Finnrey (I do love Finnpoe as well, but Finnrey holds a special place in my heart)
first ever ship: There was this stupendously awful TV series that I was obsessed with when I was a kid called The Tribe, and when Bray and Amber finally got together I cried haha
currently working on: The next part to my Peter Parker fic, a couple of cute prompts from my inbox (skinny dipping with Boba and some Delta squad headcanons), the next part to Arise, Ascend and I’ve already started thinking of a continuation to my Moon Knight fic (ridiculous, I already have way too many WIPs)

Tag Game
rules: tag a few people you want to know better; make a new post, don’t reblog!
Thanks for the tag @journen!!! Lets see if I don’t lose this to the abyss in my drafts
Currently reading: A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller. I have literally only read the intro and the first few pages, and I get the feeling its going to take me a year to read it. I don’t want it to, because I really love Kanera and I want to see how they got their start! I am considering doing like a live reading on discord or something over the summer, just so I can set aside time to just read with friends but we’ll see how that goes.
Last Song: Honestly I don’t remember. It might have been Killer Queen by Queen, or Maybe Don’t by Maise-
no wait
it was Escape from the City from Sonic Adventure 2. I was listening to it on the way home after seeing the Sonic movie again. Look I adore that movie, and when you’re driving out a huge busy city to go home out of town, City Escape is the thing that plays on loop
Last Movie: Sonic the hedgehog 2- Guys I promise it was a really fun movie. If you enjoyed the games at any point in time, the movie is a delight. If you liked parks and rec, theres even a little reference for that. Its just a fun movie
Last Series: Like tv series or book series? It took me 3 years to finally pick up and finish one book, so I’m gonna chose to list a tv series lol. Aggretsuko was probably the last show I watched and really paid attention to. I think its a fun adult cartoon. It doesn’t rely on profanity or like the normal adult humor to show that is an adult cartoon. As a young 20 something year old woman, the show makes TOO MUCH sense. Its definitely one of my comfort shows
Sweet, spicy, or savoury?: Savoury! I really like sweets. I mean I really like sweets, but I will make myself sick if I eat too many. Same thing with spicy foods. I have to be really picky about spicy things. But I like things with a lot of flavor. I like to eat things that make me feel like the rat from Rataouille when he mixes he food for the first time lol
Coffee or Tea: Tea! My favorite is a pomegranate black tea, or just plain green tea.
Three Ships: Valor or Thorkyrie. (I’m not sure what people are calling it, personally I like Valor), Kanera, and Sukka
Look I have character types that I really enjoy, and a specific type of pairing that I really like, but this post is long enough as it is...if anyone is curious I’ll write something on it later.
First ship: Thats a hard one really, like a ship I liked before I knew what shipping was or like a ship I liked that I actively talked about once I started doing fandom things? The former was probably Mulan/Shang and latter probably Percabeth from the Percy Jackson series.
Currently working on: Answering this ask- jkjkjk I’m trying to redo my start of chapter 2 for White Lie, because I reread it and its a little TOO much of Obi-Wan questioning himself. I think I’m just gonna put a strike through in some of what I have and instead try to focus on the world building. This is a planet he nor Anakin have been to, so I felt it would be slightly more appropriate to focus on their POV, and then later describe the same place from Sas’ POV because she lives there and so I can naturally build contrast in world views. I don’t know I might be over thinking it, but its giving me writer’s paralysis
Favourite Piece of Clothing: That depends...No it doesn’t Its my Unus Annus Hoodie, and some comfy leggings I have. I am a creature of comfort and those things are so soft and warm and welcoming-
Tumblr media
Comfort food: Grilled cheese. My mom used to make it for me a lot when I was little. Whenever I had a rough time at university, I usually tried to find a way to make myself grilled cheese.
Fav time of year: Fall! I’m from Texas though, so really it just means “less hot” I just like it because again, its cooler, but also I can wear my hair down without worrying about it poofing out
Fav Fanfiction: Okay I will literally never stop talking about this fanfic because ITS MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE, I GO BACK TO READ IT ALL THE TIME.  Its called Better Latte Than Never on Ao3 by FunnelFatale. Its my absolute favorite fanfic, its something I can finish in one sitting but has really good emotional development and spans a couple of months.
There was another padawan!Obi-Wanxreader fic here I stumbled across, that was based on The Chicks' Traveling soldier- it HURT me and I regret not reblogging or saving it at the time and I've been wanting to read that one again.
Thanks again for the tag!
If you guys would like to do it, I'm gonna tag: @azorell @i-dreamed-i-had-a-son @fairy-anon-godmother @sam-not-so-wise
And anyone else who would like to 👍

Almost is Never Enough on AO3
When Kanan Jarrus was pulled from the flames of the night he was supposed to die, he finds himself closed off to the Force and left with questions about why he's still alive. Even more distressing to him is how his visions through the Force showed a future that ended in death and despair for the woman he loved and his family only to see that the future unfolded as if he had given his life to the fire. Fueled by the near-loss, Hera promises a future together with Kanan in which they raise their child together in the face of a war that isn't over.
This is the story of a man who married a woman who was already married to the Rebellion and found himself fractured from the only constant that he had ever known.
This fic is rated T unless otherwise labeled on the chapters.

A thousand years ago (last week) my sweet pal @crimson-dxwn tagged me in this ask meme, and between home renovations and uh, pregnancy, I literally have not had a chance to do it till now, so indulge me. <3
Name: You can call me Aurelie! (So I don’t get fired, lol.)
Fandoms: Just Star Wars these days.  Prequels, Clone Wars, Rebels, OT, Mando.  The Sequels do NOTHING for me, except for Resistance, and even then, only on a good day. Insofar as writing? Just post-A New Dawn, pre-Rebels era Kanera.
Most Popular Oneshot: If we’re going by hits, it’s The Sleep Shift.
Most Popular Multichapter: Fam I am tired all the time and barely have the focus necessary to actually plan and plot things out so mutichapters are really hard for me to write.  (But I love reading them!)  I only have the one -  Stay, which was the fic I met @crimson-dxwn while writing! <3
Actual Worst Part Of Writing: Getting the content from my filthy, borked brain out on “paper” - the number of lines and scenes I’ve lost while trying to fall asleep or taking a shower or driving into work could probably write a full length novel. And then when I finally do have the time or motivation to sit down and make progress - poof!  they’re gone!
How You Choose Your Titles: Always the dead last thing I do. I usually shorthand my titles or come up with something ridiculous in my Google Drive while I’m working on things, and then when it comes time to post, I straight up panic. (My favorite Google Drive Den Of Sin temporary title was “Stupid Sexy Cockpit Accent Thing” which turned into How Could I Forget? ... the one I’m working on now is pretty funny but I won’t post it for fear of spoiling.  They fuck in it.  Spoiler alert.)
Do You Outline: An outline sounds a lot like a plot, and I’m here for a good time, not a long time.
Ideas I Probably Won’t Get Around To, But Wouldn’t It Be Nice?:  Honestly this implies that I plan far in advance, and I’m not joking, I’m a literal fanfic clown.  I TRULY had no intention of continuing to post, but everyone’s feedback was really encouraging and apparently there are a lot of thirsty people out there. So as long as the interest is still there and I have the time, I’ll keep going, I guess.  Though with a Yodito en route, the kinktober prompts will probably be the last of it for awhile, unless some idea really takes me or I get a compelling prompt. That isn’t pegging, please stop sending me pegging prompts.
Callouts @ Me: For fucks sake, please, self, learn to write from Kanan’s POV.
Best Writing Traits: Y’all seem to like my dialogue based on the lovely comments you provide.  So thanks for that.  I guess I like it, too.
Spicy Tangential Opinion: I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS. As the Kanera Statler and/or Waldorf to @specseven (wait which one am I again?), I have so, so many spicy opinions, and not in the sexy way.  I’ll leave Filoni worshipping out of it, I guess, because I’ve made my stance clear there.  If we’re talking specifically about fics, one of the things that is a HARD NOPE, a MAJOR TURN OFF for me is Hera being this naive, delicate little flower who knows nothing about drinking or sex or life until she meets Kanan.  I get that she’s “mom”, whatever that means, but at the end of the day, she’s also young, comes from a war torn world, and she’s been independent enough of her life to have seen and experienced the good and bad of the galaxy.  Moreover, she has her flaws, she’s made her mistakes, she’s learned a lot about how things are before she even crosses path with Kanan “What Are You Wearing?” Jarrus. Kanan didn’t swoop in to somehow “corrupt” perfect, virgin!Hera with his crazy sexual prowess and drinking habits.  FFS let the woman live. Don’t @ me.  Or do.  I don’t care.  Y’all wanted spice.
No Pressure Tags: @specseven, because I love when she has a spicy tangent, and most of her work has heavily inspired mine.
