I have a headcanon that in addition to their famous Goron spices, the Gorons also make spicy Goron wine.

“Be careful with this wine, it’s terribly strong and spicy. As soon as I drank it, my legs instantly gave way and then the spicy hit my head and it’s all because of a small mug of Goron wine.."

They drink this wine only on holidays.

Oh! I actually really love this idea! Now I imagine they originally made a version that has a bunch of minerals only ingestible to Gorons, but having a strong connection to all races outside of Death Mountain, an appropriate, non-lethal spiced wine was concocted to share amongst friends and possibly even lovers?

Like sharing Goron spiced wine around notable holidays is a big tradition in Goron City that at all are welcome to share with the locals. But imagine having that at a WEDDING? Either as one of the ceremonial choices of drink or as a gift to the betrothed for their wedding night? Oh my goodness!

I would also add the Dark Prince series - Vanimore and Elgalad are hands down the most memorable and lovable OCs by @spiced-wine-fic

Intriguingly, this series features some fully fleshed out characters with physical disabilities. I don’t recall any other Tolkien legendarium related fics that explore this topic (with the glaring exception of Maedhros post Angband but an acquired disability is different than a congenital one). I’d love to read more if they’re out there.

Lots of great fics deal with mental health issues (eg PTSD) but I haven’t read many that deal with physical disability so that was super interesting too. Of course , none of that would really matter if it weren’t a compelling story, and it absolutely is.

original character-focussed fic recs

One of the best feelings for me as a fic writer in this fandom is when somebody tells me that they liked one of my original characters. Character creation can be hard work and nerve-wracking, so it’s really rewarding whenever people tell me that it’s paid off. This fandom has a wealth of fantastic, memorable original characters, so I wanted to make a recommendation list of some of my favourite fics that feature them. The fics in this list are a range of lengths, ratings, warnings, and themes, and I’m hoping everyone will be able to find something to their taste here.

Of course this list is not exhaustive, and I’m always open to more recommendations!

I absolutely love this writer. I’ve only read the DarkPrince series so far, but Vanimore and especially Elgalad are probably my all-time favorite (thus far!) Tolkien lengendarium OCs.

Imagine me crying a couple weeks ago at the end of the series where {very sad things happen} and husband being concerned and then so confused as I tried to explain the gist of the plot.

“Ok that sounds really sad honey, im sorry” as he tried to find a 3d printer file to make a scale model of either of these boys (they don’t exist) to paint for me so I can remember them the way I imagined them at their happiest.

And don’t get me started on vanimore’s disabled daughter (sort of) (it’s complicated) (everything is complicated in this fic). I just want Vanimore and Elgalad to live happily ever after with their adopted kids.

I have to say that in 15 years in online fanfic fandom I’ve completely avoided even knowing what tropes are 😂

20. Do you work on a single project or many at the same time? How does that work for you?

I used to work on two in tandem, but when I became self-employed I just couldn’t do it anymore. Even when I could, it was a mental wrench to step out of one ‘world’ and into the other. Now I have to scrape the time to write. I need spaces of time to get into the ‘zone’, not just minutes.

28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?

If I get down or stuck, I go and read fic that I love. It starts the engines like nothing else I’ve tried.

30. Wildest AU scenario you have written?

I don’t know if they’re that wild really, everything I write is an AU and often gallops off into weird shit.

Possibly Fëanor meeting Melkor in the Dagor Dagorath and the meeting of the Flame Imperishable and the negation that-is-Melkor destroyed the universe.

Or maybe the Mirror of Worlds that Fëanor created in that universe (it was like a Portal into the Multiverse) which was shunted out of the destroyed universe and into future ones. In one of these universes Fëanor breaks it and the shards scatter through the Multiverse. The Mirror shards can appear on any world.

Maybe (in the Stormbringers Trilogy) when Fëanor, after his death is forcibly reborn and corrupted into a monstrosity and chained in Avathar, but eventually slips his chains and into the Great Sea. After a very long time in that monster shape he ends up in a deep, cold loch in Scotland.

In ancient times there was an event similar to the Storegga Slides, which caused immense tsunami to batter the west coast of Scotlandand brought the Silmaril of the Oceans to that loch. Fëanor half-recognising it, claimed it and slept with it in the depths.

In the story, Maglor has two of the Silmarils and there is an immense concatenation of power that brings the ‘Monster’ out of the loch. When Maglor kills it, the blubber breaks apart and Fëanor emerges, cleansed and whole.

Maybe Elgalad (who’s in the Dark Prince and Magnificat of the Damned series as well as the modern AU’s) Who was born an Elf but is probably a thought-form of Eru, maybe — or perhaps became a real person. We just don’t know. 🤷 I’m not sure he knows.

Eru is completely ambiguous, more than a little insane and wants to create another universe — in one AU with the aid of @naryaflame’s    OC, Claire James.
