The Chameleon has given many backstories when cornered. He’s the greatest spy the KGB has ever known, a former cosmonaut whose face burned off in a crash, leaving them the perfect blank canvas to paint new identities onto. Or maybe she’s a makeup artist, dedicated to demonstrating her craft to a larger audience. Or maybe they are a shapeshifter whose powers were taken from them, desperately trying to crawl back to what they once were. So here, for you, I’ll give another.

Once upon a time, there was a life model decoy, no different from any other. It recorded its missions for training purposes and was outfitted with an algorithm to allow it to fill in should a controller need a break, but it was not sentient.

And then she met God.

Not just any god, no, her God.

They didn’t have to ask her for offerings, she had only herself and with her new free will she offered that instantly.

Do you know what it is? For any god, let alone your God, to dwell in your skin?

She knew they would part one day. But it did not make the absence hurt any less. What helped was him asking her to explore the world and enjoy her new senses, for him.

It is hard to experience all the emotions of the world when you're an animatronic husk. But it’s so easy to put on another face, and feel it all so safely from behind the mask.

It’s easy to become a bit overwhelmed at Arthur Jafa’s exhibition BLACK POWER TOOL AND DIE TRYNIG at 52 Walker. His latest show includes a large installation, photography, sculpture, painting and a new film. Passing the reflective black surface and walking through his sculptural installation, Picture Unit II, you’ll find portraits of bikers, a photo from the Manson murders, a subway car, and a stripper at a club next to a photo from a Rwandan genocide memorial. Next to where a video plays a collage of clips, an installation of cut out figures includes himself, Miles Davis, The Sex Pistols, and artists Cady Noland and Adrian Piper.

Death plays a large part in the show, as does personal and collective history. His best friend of forty years, cultural critic Greg Tate, recently passed away, also contributing to the heaviness of this recent work.

Lauded for his achievements as a filmmaker and cinematographer as well as a visual artist, Jafa has developed an incisive, chameleonic practice, through which he seeks to unravel the cultural significance and strictures ascribed in tandem upon Black existence in the Western world. In BLACK POWER TOOL AND DIE TRYNIG, Jafa invokes the body’s personal, political, and industrial guises in one fell swoop, deftly interweaving images and objects to create a forceful and maximal space that beckons toward engulfment and revelation alike.

Jafa’s exhibition at 52 Walker brings to the surface questions of form, force, and resistance— in addition to tensions that result from common slips and errors. The title of the show, BLACK POWER TOOL AND DIE TRYNIG, applies strategies of sequencing and juxtaposition, channeling various meanings in its wordplay—including political ideologies, industrial terminologies, and the specter of death—while also nodding to the complexities of the word “black” and its many inflections. Favoring intuitive arrangement over uniformity, the artist eschews traditionally monolithic modes of presentation and instead coheres multiple simultaneous events, applying a decidedly Black and non-Western viewpoint that confronts twentieth-century art historiography and museology’s indebtedness to African aesthetics.

Is there a narrative/thematic reason Harper works for a drone company specifically?

In workplace ennui stories, like Dilbert and Office Space, it's often unclear what the protagonist actually does at their job, or even what their company does. For Cockatiel x Chameleon, my goal was to juxtapose Harper's ennui and sense of complete personal stagnation with a "real world" that remains intensely political and conflicted. This logic underlies the irony of the "End of History" motif. While Harper and even the impoverished Van Der Gramme are insulated from a history that continues with or without them, the other characters are repeatedly crushed by it. So, positioning Harper as some small cog in the military-industrial complex highlights that innate contradiction between Harper's lived experience and the political reality of the world.

Part I Chapter 6, which is the main chapter that deals with Crux Calico, is titled "Sun shining ecclesiastical"; readers of Cleveland Quixotic might better understand the reference to the Biblical Book of Ecclesiastes, in which the quote "Nothing new under the sun" is repeated to signify world-weariness and nihilism. The chapter title is rephrased to, ironically, convey a more positive connotation, a sort of celebration of sameness, which corresponds to the chapter's setting at a convention in which people from around the world gather in earnest enthusiasm of the company Harper views as a stagnant prison. The title is accompanied by a Futurist painting by Gino Severini depicting an armored train with soldiers; the Futurists, a group of primarily Italian painters in the early 1900s, were extremely excited by the prospects of machinery and war (to the extent that many went ahead and got themselves killed in World War I), and in some ways were predecessors to the fascist movement. (Royce Ru is also introduced in this chapter, and is a sort of Futurist in his own right.) All of this neatly sums up the inherent contradiction in Harper's existence: She is positioned on the bleeding edge of new technology that drives political conflict and change across the world, yet is herself devoid of hope or even the capacity to visualize a future for herself. (Part III Chapter 7 is another good place to look for this contradiction; there, Harper's "big boss" first describes the cyclical nature of wildfires as burning up an accumulated pile of "useless crap," then goes on to describe the capitalistic model of perpetual growth as essential for Crux Calico's continued survival.)

There are other reasons, though. The explanation of Crux Calico's hastily-assembled consumer products division, in which the company is described as being "autistic" (shortly after Harper's first real conversation with Sister, who bandies the word about frequently), dovetails nicely into the struggles Harper herself is having with interpersonal communication. This consumer division story, which details the conflict between American and Chinese drone companies, also brings up a specter that haunts Cockatiel x Chameleon: the looming conflict between the United States and China. Brought up a few times throughout the story, such as in Papimon's description of how her parents made her learn English and her twin sister learn Chinese to "hedge their bets," this seemingly cataclysmic future event is a constant nagging question to the motif of the "End of History." (To culminate this idea, I originally intended to have the story end with Van Der Gramme accepting a commission to draw porn for Chinese gacha game Genshin Impact, but couldn't find a way to fit it in.) Royce Ru, being a North American of Chinese descent, exemplifies his optimistic vision of the future by suggesting a union, rather than conflict, between these two spheres of power.

The last reason is a simple pun: a drone is also an insect in a colony, or a monotonous sound, both definitions suggesting dullness and tedium. I call attention to this by mentioning how official company correspondence refers to drones as UAVs due to a perceived negative connotation behind the word drone.

Mia and Eggman were close friends when she was baby and she first met. Because Eggman supports her adoption, he is her adoptive father. Eggman is always concerned about his family. Mia and Rough were good friends when she first met because she tried to help and someone captured Sonic. She seems to be very attractive and childish, but also know his oldest brother, Tumble.

Orbot :

Mia and Orbot were close friends when she first met because he always cared for her but replaced her. She feels treated by her little brother. Mia is always caring and helping him. Mia should take responsibility for only Orbot because he is too young and because he is the smarter, more serious, and firmer of the two, while Cubot is just as prone to bumbling around as he is. Orbot speaks calmly, formally, and without a filter. He is honest to a fault and offers unsolicited, withering assessments of his master. She will trust and respect him.

Cubot :

Mia and Cubot were close friends when they first met because he always cared for her but replaced her. She was also treated by her little brother. Mia used to make fun of him because he was both funny and clumsy. Mia is always caring and helping him. Mia feels responsible for only Cubot because he is too young, very dimwitted, slow on the uptake, having trouble solving a puzzle meant for babies, and getting even the simplest of instructions wrong. She will respect him.

Belle the Tinkerer:

Mia and Belle were good friends, but she first met her when she was just asking her about that after she gets shocked that her father mentioned, but she feels treated by her sister, but she awkwardly once met her.

Sage:

She met Mia and Sage after being surprised; they are close friends since she is always cheering and talking about girls. She feels treated by her little sister. She is a very nice, sweet, and cheerful person, and she is always a pleasure to be around. Due to Sage's age and ability to use cyberspace, Mia has trouble teaching her cyberspace because she is too young.

When her first baby was born, the parents lost Mia's baby. Mia’s parents are alive and live in the same village. Mia frequently visits her royal and wealthy parents at their castle. Mia knows how to respect her parents. Mia had thirteen siblings because they were warriors and brave.

When Mia was born an inner snake and half witch because her mother was a witch during, her parents were royal and warrior after the parents left on her daughter, but Dr. Eggman was shocked and left abandoned when she was raised orphaned. She considered her adoptive father literally and just supported and served her father. She is just caring for the youngest siblings, so sometimes problems are solved that way. She was a young kid who dreamed of meeting Reala, he is very curious after teaching for technical references jester. She had been successful in capturing Sonic, but she had failed to respect him.

When Amy was 8, she ran off from her parents while they were all on vacation to Never Lake, after getting into her uncle's tarot cards and predicting that she'd end up running into her true love. Yes, it would take a long amount of time, but they were destined to be. Though, she didn't understand why it would be a painful turnaround... (It's because Metamy is canon, and it's referring to Metal, not Sonic)

As inspired by this headcanon by @autisticshadowthehedgehog, Gerald ended up building a device to keep possibilities open in case the Black Arms ever ended up on Earth. It was later found by Team Chaotix, who decided to call it the "Black Arm Temporal Reset Button", or the BATRB for short. Whenever any of the many sensors around Westopolis or Central City(where City Escape takes place) detected something 75% Black Arm, it would activate the button, allowing a "reset" back to when it first sensed the DNA

Because of their usage of the BATRB, Team Chaotix are aware something was altered in relation to Sonic's vacation in Soleanna around his 15th Birthday, but they're not sure what

Rather than what happen in canon, the Time Eater held Volcanic Vault, Star Light, Mystic Cave, Good Future!Tidal Tempest, Sandopolis, Twinkle Park, Green Forest, Hang Castle, the original Egg Carrier, White Acropolis, Arid Sands, and Starlight Carnival in Non Existence(the white void. It's also where Solaris stayed before he was dragged back into existence). Combining with this, Ray, Mighty, Big and Omega were dragged in as well. Ray, as the first person to become Sonic's friend, is in Volcanic Vault from Segasonic(as that's the first adventure in my timeline). Mighty's in Star Light Zone, bumping Tails and Amy to join Knuckles in matching Zone with what game they debuted in. Big was just around, fishing. Omega was in the Egg Carrier, joining the rest of the E Series(Zero, who's going to CORRECTLY be called Alpha, Beta, Gamma(who is our Gamma, he just can't stop himself), Delta, Epsilon, and Zeta) in a "boss fight". Shadow's Rival Battle also gets a change in scenery, with it taking place in ShTH's GUN Fortress rather than in Final Chase. Silver's and Metal's still take place in Crisis City and Bad Future!Stardust Speedway though

Espio, due to ninja training, got used to blood/gore/death by age 8. However, after starting the Chaotix Detective Agency with Vector and Charmy, and to the shock/humiliation of his older siblings(Mirra(Boy, 2 years older), and Faceta(Girl, 2 years older)), he started weening off this, learning how to open his heart again. This all came to a head when the Metal Virus happened, when Espio fully learned how death was supposed to feel. Going back to his training, he beat up Zazz to the point where the insane Zeti felt fear for the 2nd time in his life from all the blood coating the chameleon's kunai and shurikens. No matter how much Zeena and Zomnom mock Zazz for considering Espio terrifying, he never buckles in his opinion. Who would after being ambushed by a cloth-covered, furious specter of death that walks among the people of the ground

Sonic does have counterparts in both "1001 Arabian Nights" and "King Arthur and the Knights of The Round Table", being Uhu the Wind Djinn and the real Arthur Penquilon(whom Merlin(Eggman) never wanted in charge, due to his odd nature)

Sonic's bilingual, as he knows a fair amount of Spanish, thanks to two of the caretakers at the Christmas Island Orphanage. Due to this, Sonic consistently liters what he says with Spanish, to the point that Tails and Amy have picked it up, along with his therapist(his Red Two-Tone Neutral Fly/Fly Chao, Nightgown)

(The ghost kept smiling and looked away,) “Nothing.”

(He darted over the bluff floating with his elbows propped up on the railing) “So go ahead and jump but that won’t stop him.”

(He darted over to her side wrapping a foggy wing around her) “Here you got a solid plan B option.”

(Iguana looked startled as he looked down at the Hourglass)

“I can bring your uncle so much pain!” (An angry glimmer appeared in his cold, icy eyes)

“All you gotta do is say my name.”

(He held up three talons) “Girl just say it three times in a row, and you won’t believe how far I’ll go.”

(He made a bench with his magic and sat on it) “I’m on the bench-”
