Ghosts in Sonic's world come in many different forms.

Some look just like the people they once were in life, others simply look like small wisps of light, and most land somewhere in-between. Usually, they are invisible to the naked eye, unless the ghost is powerful enough and makes the conscious choice to reveal themself to the living.

Most spirits are not a threat by default. Some, however, are stolen and corrupted by King Boom Boo and turned into loyal minions called Boos. These types of ghosts can harm and possess the living, causing all kinds of trouble all for the sake of bringing more souls to further empower their King and grow their numbers.

There are people, like Specter and Phantom, who have the ability to see spirits and even exorcize them, as they were born with an affinity to the Chaos Energy that makes up the soul. These people help keep evil spirits like the Boos at bay, preventing them from overtaking the general populace.

25. What's the strangest thing about them?

Nebby's origins. Probably bc they have none lol. As far as Livewire (or anyone) knows, they just spawned in looking Like That. They also don't get along that well with other Chao which is pretty weird

2. Powers/Abilities?

Rue has the same powers as the werehog in Unleashed, though she can also transform further into a Nightmare which gives her a boost (and also a prehensile tail. That can cut you with its tip. Bc it's cool)

They also have generally more sensitive senses than other ppl, a pretty high pain tolerance, and a bite force strong enough to crush Badniks

15. What makes them feel angry/upset

Specter is usually pretty level headed and doesn't let things get to her, but likes to have things go her way. She's stubborn, so she ends up butting heads with other people who are stubborn as well. Someone not listening to her can make her pretty mad.

Also making fun of her for her phobia of bugs is a surefire way of making her mad. And that happens A Lot

10. Is there someone they hate/dislike?

Phantom doesn't really *hate* anyone besides any obvious answers like Nox (another oc), Eggman, and any evil spirits. He's yet to meet a lot of other characters though so there's gonna be quite a few ppl he doesn't know yet but would AT LEAST dislike. Like the Babylon Rogues. Them being cheaters would piss him off

I've been trying to think of the best way to articulate this for a long time, but I think something that maybe influences many outdoor cat owners to be adamantly against the idea of the idea of their pet being an invasive species, is the way we talk and think about invasive species.

If you see any post on social media talking about an invasive species, people in the comments tend to talk about "destroying" them with a sort of gleeful malice. Essentially, invasives are acceptable targets for cruelty. They are considered "evil", making it okay to hate them and inflict violence upon them, and to revel in that violence.

So, if a person has this viewpoint, consciously or not, and sees someone claim their beloved pet is invasive, they will probably balk at the idea and reject it. Their cat isn't evil! That's absurd! How could you say that?

And that is completely true. The domestic cat isn't evil. Neither is the spotted lanternfly, common buckthorn, or any other invasive species. They are harmful to the environments they are introduced into, but they don't cause that harm because they are malevolent. They're doing the exact same things they would be in their original environment. Those things are just bad for their non-native one. In some situations, removing invasive species may involve killing the organism, but we shouldn't relish in the suffering this will cause them.

Obviously, there are lot of factors influencing why people refuse to keep their cats inside. But I can't help but wonder if this kind of attitude might exacerbate it - and if changing the way we talk about invasive species might help a little. Even if not, we should do it anyway - all living things deserve respect.

⏳ Somewhere in the city, a chase was already in motion. But here, it was just the two of you—waiting for who would make the first move.

The lounge was dimly lit, the golden glow from the overhead chandeliers casting deep shadows against the walls. The air was thick with the scent of whiskey and expensive perfume, a low hum of conversation filling the space as people slipped into quiet corners, murmuring over half-finished drinks.

But none of that mattered.

Because across the room, he was watching you.

Jake sat casually at the bar, one arm draped along the back of the leather stool, a glass of something dark and amber in front of him. He looked too at ease, the kind of effortless calm that came with knowing exactly how much control you had over a situation.

And right now?

He had all of it.

Your fingers curled around your own glass, untouched. You weren’t supposed to be here. This wasn’t part of the mission. You should have already been gone, moving onto the next lead, following the trail of evidence that was supposed to bring you closer to Specter.

But for some reason, you weren’t leaving.

For some reason, you were still here.

A slow smirk tugged at the corner of Jake’s lips, and before you could second-guess yourself, he lifted his glass in a silent toast.

Cocky bastard.

Your grip tightened slightly. You had been chasing him for so long that it was unnatural to see him like this. Not a shadow slipping through alleyways, not a whisper at the scene of a crime.

Here, he wasn’t a ghost.

Here, he was just a man.

And that was dangerous.

Jake tilted his head slightly, an unspoken challenge lingering in his gaze. You’re already here. You might as well come say hello.

Your body moved before your brain could catch up, legs carrying you across the lounge with a steady confidence that didn’t match the pulse pounding in your throat. Every step felt deliberate, like walking across a tightrope with no safety net beneath you.

By the time you reached him, Jake was already setting his drink down, his smirk widening just slightly.

"Didn’t think you’d actually come," he mused, his voice smooth, easy—too familiar, like you had known him for years instead of knowing him as the man you were supposed to arrest.

Your nails dug into the palm of your hand. "I thought I’d see what kind of lies you’d tell me to my face."

Jake chuckled, shaking his head slightly as he reached for his glass again. "Lies? No, sweetheart." He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice just enough that it sent something sharp down your spine. "I only ever tell you the truth."

Liar.

And yet—

You stayed.

The city outside pulsed with movement, a chase still happening somewhere beneath the skyline. But here, in the quiet hum of the lounge, in the space between words neither of you were saying—

It was just the two of you.

Waiting.

Watching.

Seeing who would make the first move.

Every character featured in the main fic is queer in some way, including canon characters!

Both Sonic is trans and aroace! Tails is still figuring himself out on a lot of things, but he's also trans!

Rue is aroace and genderqueer!

Specter is a bisexual trans girl! Her brother Phantom is a genderqueer gay guy!

Nox is unlabeled but has had romantic relationships with other men in the past! Those have been fleeting and only initiated because he had something to gain from them, though.

Thinking abt how Rue, Specter, and Phantom would've handled the metal virus

I think Specter and Phantom would've heard abt it before the infection reached Phantom Grove (thinking of changing the name so it's not the same as Phantom's but it's the forest zone they live in) and would warn Rue abt it. The twins would be cooped up in their house while Rue constantly patrols the woods, waiting for the infection to inevitably make it to the zone

The twins would end up infected first as the zombots break into their home. Rue would try to protect them, but in the end she's forced to watch them become zombots. The stress is enough for her to go Nightmare mode and drive the zombots away, leaving the now zombotified twins with her in their wrecked home

Rue doesn't get infected, though. The Dark Gaia Energy inside them affects the virus similarly to the Chaos Energy in Sonic, but still slightly different. Instead of allowing it to be burned off by running, it stops the spread and the metal will eventually peel off of the affected areas. That little piece of Dark Gaia inside them doesn't want anything else possessing its host, y'know. But their body is forced to remain in Nightmare mode until the whole ordeal is finally over and the metal virus is disposed of by Sonic and Silver, and even then it takes some time for them to turn back to normal

That leaves Specter and Phantom waking up to a wrecked house and a scared feral wolfdog monster who is likely starving and dehydrated bc she refused to leave their side for days until they were cured

None of them talk about it bc none of them remember much of what happened. Mentioning the metal virus around Rue makes them break out in a cold sweat and they get snappy and anxious, so maybe it's for the best that they don't talk about it much

An angle I need to be practicing more, starring Olive Specter! This is the last remaining picture of it since I later I ripped the paper due to constant erasing 😞 I think I’d like to move it to my computer later and work on it
