I've developed mathematics for a non-human mind, for my comic "The book written by tiny paws"
Sapient distant descendants of rats, known as packers, living on Earth millions of years after the extinction of humans, began to develop mathematics using cognitive mechanisms never intended for such tasks. Due to an evolutionary quirk, multiplication came more naturally to them than addition, and their mathematics reflects this.
Packers write numbers as shapes, with each number having a corresponding number of corners.
Tumblr media
And they write large numbers as nested shapes. The number inside is multiplied by the number outside.
Tumblr media
Examples of some numbers:
Tumblr media
Packers haven't invented 0 yet. They haven't even invented 1! In fact, they don’t need the concept of "one" much in their system. There's no need to say "I ate one fish" when they can simply say "I ate fish".
Packers can't yet write large prime numbers, like 101 or 10,501, because they would have to draw a huge shape to represent them! Even writing 17 or 19 would be quite difficult if they only used convex shapes.
Tumblr media
So packers use non-convex shapes too!
Tumblr media
Many years later, some packer noticed that large prime numbers look suspiciously symmetric.
Tumblr media
So this packer improved the notation system and made it clearer.
Tumblr media
Later, another packer simplified this system even more, deciding that there was no point in writing the same shapes twice.
Tumblr media
This packer was the first in their culture to declare that "a dot isolated from a number" should also be considered a number. The packer called this dot "the wonderful number that's less than two".
Many years later, another packer made an important innovation: the "dot isolation" could be repeated multiple times as long as the result remained odd. When the result became even, it could undergo a "two isolation" (division by two). The final result will be a series of dots and twos.
Tumblr media
This invention led to the creation of a binary system based on one and two, which had a significant impact on the technological advancement of packers.
Tumblr media
The comic "the book written by tiny paws" talks about all of this in more detail. There will be mistakes, debates, the invention of rational, irrational, multivariate numbers, and some other stuff. Some stuff will be very much like human math, and some will be different. After all, math is still math, only the point of view has changed.

SWAN 🦢 ✈️  (Strategic Wyvern Aerial Navigator)
"The “SWANS” are biomechanical lifeforms that after years of mimicry adapted to resemble combat jets. Their wolfram-like skin not only is resistant to the toxic and parasitic dangers of the ‘false ocean’ but is nigh impossible to penetrate. While not a real bird they present many similar features and behavior. It's not all too rare to spot them flying in flocks and engaging in courtship
Swans are known to jam signals and strike airborne carriers since they’re an extremely territorial and violent species. First it will race against the enemy (it should be noted their structure allows them to reach enough speed to break the sound barrier) as a sign that they dominate the air space before they plunge the foe into the ground. Competitiveness amongst the species in a similar fashion has been observed to uncertain ends. In spite of all the gathered studies their intelligence and physical feats are still under research but paired with their enormous size and aggressivity is more than a difficult task.
They are rapacious hunters from the skies and encounters are advised against. There’s no current methods to defend against the Swans and in consequence it has obstructed facilities, aviation and transportation."

I've really been enjoying @derinthescarletpescatarian 's Child of a Wandering Star, an amazing first encounter story from the POV of the aliens, and the image of an astronaut being read as a baby star-god was so delicious to me so I had to draw the "hatching" scene.
and because im normal i was like well if im drawing the aliens I need to hunt down mentions of their physical appearance so I can know exactly what they look like and model them after real arthropods. obviously

Here’s a small part of a way larger project I’ve been working on (do expect photos of that at some point in the near-ish future).

your design is so clever and cool it inspired me to draw my own take on it
while I gave mine similarly exposed flesh and inspector limbs as well, I wanted to go for a more "cobbled together" look (more details on my tags)

Hey guys it's seasons greasons
(Featuring the Prectikar, Obin, and WaraWara, an Arasit.)
Obin is a big fan (pun intended) of the cold but not of other people screaming and jumping on his back. WaraWara is a thrill seeker and would never pass up the chance to go out in freezing temperatures dressed in only a tanktop and jump on a guy 12x her size.

WHITE VEILED BEARFROG 🐻‍❄️ 🐠 (Ambystoma Axoqui) Also known as Iztacueyatl Tecuani (white frog beast)
"A majestic white scaled and bear-like creature from the seas. Its now dangerous habitat forced it to seek water ponds and swamps. But make no mistake, this beast in spite of its elegant appearance can tear its prey and foes to shreds- especially during nesting seasons. Its movement can be deceivingly slow but once in a rush of adrenaline they lunge and attack at a swift speed. To further improve its survivability it will often release slimy bubbles (likely mucus) from its body which slow down its enemies through contact or by walking on surfaces in which they bursted, but amongst other abilities they can absorb and release high-pressured water through their mouths (and gills) to blast intruders with. Some of them have even learned to propel themselves like a jet by expelling water, becoming a deadly giant projectile.
They prefer to live surrounded by corals and colorful rocks to blend in and only display aggression when threatened, as they prefer stealth. A bearfrog will create a semi-aquatic nest so that the females then carry a clutch of orange eggs under their bodies until they hatch. The newborn larvae will spend their youth underwater until they develop to venture into land.
This species has become rather scarce because of the water conditions in the land .."
