I love small headcanons that go against canon tbh they are fun sometimes. like I get it, hc’s that contradict canon to the extent that the fanon version and the canon version of a character are essentially two different people are kinda annoying
BUT
I think Solid Snake should get a little heterochromia as a treat Y’know
#specifically green and brown complete heterochromia#Sort of like a husky#but green#he wears contacts most of the time#solid snake#mgs#metal gear#metal gear solid

I just read this ask about skin care and i had a bit of a similar ask
What would bot think about eyes colors ? They only know yellow, red and blue ones, so when they see brown, black, green, heterochromia or grey ones (i do have grey eyes, it is a sign of a lack of melanin in your body (im the defenition of being white asf i can't go outside without sunscreen)), how would they react to that?
They would find it facinating.
Cybertronians come into being with many various optical lens colors. The coloration has very little to do with function or frame type when a bot is born naturally. Some say it connects to the color of the spark. Others swear up and down that optic color ties each mech to a Prime. The various religious cults across Cybertron used to herald specific colors as being more pure than the others. Science, however, dictates that optical lens coloration is completely randomized for mecha born of the Well of Allsparks. There is no divine reasoning behind it. The cold forged are a different story, that with most low caste bots being given red optical lenses in order to help them work better in low light areas. The Prime is also another similar case since every single Prime to have carried the Matrix has been recorded having blue optics. Most high caste bots chalked the low caste and the Prime's optical lens colorations always coming out the same as being Primus's divine ordainment of functionalism.
Both Optimus and Megatron shut such views down after they came into power in their respective factions.
With all that stated, I believe the bots would think eye colors are interesting, and maybe even a little worrying considering their own history. Seeing as humans can't pop out of the ground randomly, the bots look at their eye colors as a denotation of birth function, at least for the most part. Those with blue, grey, or green eyes tend to come from the colder regions of Earth, generally being of paler skin. As such, the bots tend to look at them as the flight frames of Earth due to the relative rarity of the colors and their nature as recessive genes. Flight frames on Cybertron were not particularly common after all. Brown eyed humans are seen as the grounders of Earth, being most common but often quite resourceful and hardy. The bots do recognize that in light of modernization, it is now difficult to decipher the 'frame type' of most humans, but they still take note on instinct.
The eyes of humans are fascinating, especially those with unusual colors. The ones with odd eyes are the triple changers, beastformers, and predacons of humanity. Rare in the extreme, but gifted in something unique. Humanity is an interesting race, and while the bots are well aware that humans don't technically have frame types like they do, the comparisons come anyway.

Planet Earth — Alexia Putellas x Reader with heterochromia
Warnings: none
Word count: 455
Summary: Alexia has the green in her eyes and you have the blue in yours. You both share the brown colour in your eyes. Making them a perfect match.
A/N: This is not proofread at all, sorry if there's any mistakes. I've noticed that Jenni has this eye condition too (a different type from Alexia's, though), so maybe in the future I'll write about her and her beautiful eyes.
You were born with an eye anomaly called complete heterochromia. That implied having one eye of a different colour from the other one. Your left eye was light blue and your right one was dark brown. This was never a problem for you as you grew confidently on your eye condition. As a child, you received some teasings from people from your school, but always snapped back quickly at them.
When you met Alexia, her eyes connected immediately with yours. Her hazel eyes; light brownish, green iris were captivated by your blue and brown ones. She carefully asked about your eye condition. Alexia felt a hunger out of the curiosity to know more about you, even if you had just met some minutes ago.
“It's called heterochromia. There are different types, though. Mine's called complete heterochromia. That means the iris of my left eye is of a different colour from my right's.” You leaned a bit closer to Alexia. Her eyes slightly opening as you came closer to them. She licked her lips unconsciously, but you didn't notice it, as you were too invested in her eyes. “You, for example, have central heterochromia. Your eyes are green, light green to be more specific, but the centre of both of your iris, have a beautiful light brown colour surrounding your pupil.” Alexia smiled, and you couldn't help but notice those beautiful lips for the first time. You were so invested in admiring her eyes, that you didn't focus on her other attributes.
“I had notice that before, but I didn't know it had a name”, she explained. “There's one more type of this condition categorized as sectoral heterochromia, having the iris from two different colours. But don't get confused with this type and your type. Yours occurs in the centre of your eye, around the pupil. This one is like a pizza, as if six slices were blue and two of them were brown.” Alexia giggled, and you found yourself losing in her laugh.
As you remember the first time you met your now girlfriend, you see her entering your room. “It's time to get up, baby girl. We have things to do.” You raised your eyebrows. “Do we? What do you have in mind.” She laughed as she rolled her eyes. “Clean, naughty girl. I was talking about cleaning. It's Sunday.” You groaned as you rolled over the bed and hid yourself under the blankets. “No, Ale, I'm too tired. I'll do it in the afternoon.” Alexia got rid of the blankets and started to wrestle with you playfully. She ended up on top of you, almost out of breath, as your eyes captivated hers one more time, like the very first time you met.

notes : I did not expect my previous posts to get the attention they did! Anyways, these are my headcanons for Liu! I just want to clarify that my version of Liu does NOT have DID as I don't believe it was portrayed properly in his original story. I also do not want to portray DID poorly.
★ Has heterochromia iridum. His right eye is green while his left eye is brown.
★ Spends A LOT of time watching documentaries, specifically one’s relating to psychology as it’s a huge fascination of his.
★ Very interested in journaling. He mainly writes about his feelings and thoughts as he has trouble understanding and describing them. Most of his entries include his violent and intrusive thoughts.
★ His alter ego, Sully, was an identity Liu had consciously created as a way to cope with his inner mental and emotional conflicts. He felt indifferent towards his brother. Part of him wanted to forgive him, despite almost being murdered by his own blood; The other held a massive grudge against him, actively wanting to torture him in the most brutal ways possible. As a “coping mechanism”, he resorted to lashing out at others, taking his anger out on innocent pedestrians mercilessly. He got much worse over time as it messed with his overall ability to manage his emotions. It resulted in him recognizing each one of them as overwhelming and unbearable.
★ Feels extremely guilty about his actions. He heavily regrets having taken out his own frustrations and anger on those who weren't to blame for it.
★ Originally had a lot of scars. Most of them have faded away with time, but he still has a few visible.
★ Occasionally has therapy sessions with Jack as he seems to have the most experience in the field. Most of these sessions include Liu rambling and trying his best to talk or even explain his emotions. Surprisingly, it’s helped him a bit.
★ Liu is very different from his persona, Sully. He’s soft-spoken, generally anxious, and quite sensitive. Most of the time, he’s willing to lend a helping hand when needed.
★ Liu tends to layer his clothing to hide most of these scars though, especially the large one on his neck as it hasn’t completely disappeared.
★ Often neglects his physical needs. He tends to prioritize things he considers to be more important, so he ends up forgetting most of the time.
★ Enjoys collecting a variety of items he finds that either catch his interest or is strange in general.
★ Knows how to play the violin as he used to take classes as a teen.
★ Taught himself how to sew! Whenever he’s out, he tends to accidentally rip parts of his clothing out of pure clumsiness, so he figured it’d be a useful skill to learn.
★ His height is around 5’9.
★ He has quite a distaste for horror movies, yet he’ll oddly enough find himself watching them. He especially takes in great detail of the gruesome murders happening in the films.

I’ve got weirdly specific eye-related headcanons for the human Hazbins.
Y’all wanna hear them? *doesn’t wait for an answer* Anyway.
Alastor:
Big brown doe eyes
Naturally long lashes
He will use these powers… for evil
Angel Dust:
Angel has heterochromia, but he wasn’t born with it
He either lost his left eye and wears a green glass eye
(‘cause he’d totally be the type to give himself heterochromia ✨ for the aesthetic ✨ if he was already missing an eye)
Or had some sort of eye-injury that left his left eye that left the iris practically black and caused significant vision loss
In either case, it happened because of a fight with Arackniss
(This is a reference to a very very old sketch by Viv in which Angel says that his eye is Like That™️ because Arackniss gave him a black eye before he died)
His right eye/original eye color is brown
Charlie:
Brown eyes
BECAUSE I SAID SO
I know the fandom usually gives her blue eyes as a human
But I don’t see it
Does great puppy dog eyes
But unlike Alastor she doesn’t abuse this privilege
…often
Cherri Bomb:
Completely blind in one eye
Due to an arson-related incident
She also has facial scaring on the same side but this isn’t a scars headcanon post
Her blind eye is white
Her sighted eye is green
Husk:
The prettiest hazel eyes you ever did see
Almost gold
He doesn’t care for them though :/
Probably got bullied for them at some point because kids are dicks
Niffty:
Niffty has big eyes reminiscent of her demon form
She has monolids
Her eyes are brown, but in the right light they look reddish and/or amber
She has a glass eye and sometimes pops it out for the express purpose of messing with people who didn’t know she had one
Has a habit of going bug-eyed when she gets happy/excited or when something catches her attention
Vaggie:
Missing her left eye
She wears an eye-patch
Her right eye is brown

Natural Horse Eyes
My take on a somewhat more realistic-looking eye texture, aiming for something that looks more horse-y than vanilla but still fits all right with a maxis-adjacent style. I've brightened up the lighter colors to give them that authentic equine "possessed by the ghost of a victorian orphan" look, and as always desaturated everything from EA's go-to jewel tones. Swatches include some browns, amber, green, two blue/glass swatches, and that yellow tiger eye color that's specific to Paso Finos. I also added two complete heterochromia swatches and one sectoral.
These eyes are designed to be used with @minervamagicka's horse eye fix (grab it here) and will look a bit weird without it.

Aside from Herbie's partial heterochromia, do you headcanon any other physical conditions, mutations or disabilities with the Moonbase Crew?
Aaaaa!! Okay so;
Canon stuff out of the way; Patton has a cleft chin, Herbie has a double chin, glasses, overbite, and braces, and Fanny has freckles (though I imagine her with a lot more than she has in canon jgnjf)
Rachel has a lot of moles on her body, three specifically on her face.
Rachel also starts getting major eye bags once she becomes supreme leader. Even after becoming a teen she has an awful sleep schedule so there’s no chance she’d be able to get rid of them as an adult.
Fanny starts developing lines around her eyes as a late teen, and has noticeable crows feet by the time she’s in her midlife.
I’ve given all four of them heterochromia because I love colouring heterochromia and I think it looks cool (It started with just Fanny, than I gave it to Rachel, then I said ‘fuck it’s and gave it to Patton and Herbie as well)! Both Patton and Herbie have partial heterochromia in one eye each. Patton has green eyes and the top half of his right eye is blue, and Herbie has purple eyes and the top half of his left eye is red (in a more realistic world, it would probably be blue and a reddish brown). Rachel has partial heterochromia in both her eyes, in which the top half of them are brown and the bottom half are a deep purple (again, more realisticly it would most likely be dark blue.) Fanny has complete heterochromia; her right eye is green and her left is orange (again again, would realistically be a light brown).
Herbie had disastrously crooked teeth, like painfully so, which is why he has braces now.
Patton has a fractured tooth, which happened during his cadet training. His parents have tried to convince him to get a fake tooth but he refuses.
Rachel has a tooth gap that started out small but got wider over time. She absolutely hated it when she was younger and beg her parents to take her to get it ‘fixed’ but they never did (mostly because her dad also has a tooth gap and he was offended she hated it so much). Eventually she ‘got over it’, but she still doesn’t like people giving attention to it.
Fanny has ‘fangs’, which are just her slightly sharper canines protruding irregularly (snaggle-tooth). Fanny doesn’t really care much about her appearance so she’s never thought about getting them fixed. The only time the idea crossed her mind was when her mother raised concerns about possible dental hygiene issues, but ultimately neither of her parents thought it was a big enough deal to get them fixed.
Rachel is a tad bit underweight, because she grew up with only one proper meal a day and now as supreme leader she has the habit of skipping meals entirely unless she’s eating with friends.
Patton went through some early puberty. The most noticeable side effect was his voice getting deeper and growing side burns.
Herbie’s body in general is just, a bit of a struggle for him. He has a poor immune system so he gets sick realky easily (which is why he avoids doing field missions and prefers working behind a screen). His growth has also been stunted because of said tendencies to be sick and a lack of a nutritional diet (single dad who does NOT know how to take care of a kid!! But he’s trying… not well but still trying).
Both Fanny and Patton get injured regularly, which will definitely cause problems for them in the future.
Patton starts suffering hearing loss in one ear during his late teens/early adulthood, and ends up with a hearing aid.
Rachel needs glasses. She didn’t wear them at all as a kid because her vision issues were not major enough for people to really notice, but she’d start wearing reading glasses as a teen because her eyes got worse. And then her eyes would get even worse so she’d wear glasses regularly as an adult, though she’d prefer wearing contact lenses.
Patton has asthma and thinks it’s SUPER embarrassing and tried to hide it when he joined the KND. Obviously he couldn’t keep it hidden for long, but in present times the only people who know are the rest of the mooncrew.
Fanny is allergic to penicillin (this has no reasoning it’s just pure projection LMAO)
#I’m not.. even sure some of these relate to what you asked I just started rambling sorry!!#asks#mooncrew#numbuh 86#numbuh 362#numbuh 60#numbuh 65.3#fanny fulbright#rachel mckenzie#patton drilovsky#knd herbie#knd#codename: kids next door#kids next door#if you notice some of their physical traits being similar/parallels it’s 100% on purpose#I put too much thought into these kids#february 2024

just want to say love the heterocromia scary and if you don’t mind going to use that in my own design
thank you!! actually gonna use this ask to talk about my color coding for the families if that’s alright >:o) (also, feel free!)
so my basic colors for the families are
stamplers - blue
wilsons - yellow
closes - red-orange
fosters - purple-blue
oaks - green
for the stamplers, specifically, it’s more of light blue is associated with being A Stampler and the shade I assign the character deals with how much of one they are or consider themselves to be — Willy is completely purple for that reason, both because the canonical purple robe stuff and that purple is next to blue on the color wheel AND he isn’t really a stampler in anything but name
for scary, the only blue on her entire design is that eye — it’s purposeful that it’s the eye I drew covered up unless she was having an emotional moment or, honestly, a ron moment (ie the vegan ice cream thing). it ties her to the stampler-ness she was put into when terry jr married her mom, and connects her to the rest of the family, but is also something she purposefully covers because she feels as if she really is alone in her family. she’s the only character with pink, too, both connecting her to willy and setting her apart from the rest of the families because she’s the first PC with an antagonistic streak (although she really isn’t an antagonist). fun fact, too, is that my design for her dad has blue eyes, while her mom has brown eyes; giving her a canonical reason to cover up that part of her
i could go in depth with a lot of my designs and family color coding but i’ve rambled enough for one day HAHA so that’s why scary has heterochromia! nearly everything i do design wise has a deeper meaning or metaphor or trauma related thing with it that i just enjoy getting the chance to talk about >:o)

for the character design asks: glance for Kennedy, bling for Quincy, armor for Casimir!
oc character design ask meme
glance: at first glance, what stands out most about your oc's appearance? what's their distinguishing feature?
eyes. kennedy has complete heterochromia so her eyes are two separate colors. her left eye is dark brown; her right eye is green. in the past, she's worn colored contacts when necessary so as to not draw attention to herself for work purposes. secondary to the eye color but also supporting the eyes as her distinguishing feature is the fact that she has a rough, half-moon shaped scar framing the outer edge of her right eye and slicing through the tail of her eyebrow.
bling: what jewelry does your oc wear? does it have any meaning?
all of the jewelry? all of the jewelry, but specifically stainless steel or anything silver. quincy is always wearing multiple necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings on every finger. she doesn't care for dainty jewelry and prefers a heavier, gothic, maximalist style when it comes to her accessories. no individual piece really carries a meaning for her, but the jewelry is a type of armor for her in the same way her makeup and clothing choices are. she rarely removes all of her jewelry unless she absolutely has to. in those moments, there's an order to it. rings first, then bracelets, then necklaces, then earrings - which is the opposite of how she puts everything on.
armor: what kind of armor does your oc wear? is it well kept? bonus: where does it come from? is there a story behind it?
casimir's armor is primarily made of the shed scales from their dragon. the scales were originally much more bright and white in color, but having been shed, the scales lost some of their luster and are a pale gray/smoky color. they've made much of their armor themselves and go to great lengths to keep it clean and functional. while there's some heft to the armor, it's flexible enough for casimir to be able to move agilely when not on dragonback.

👁️ EYE - what colour are their eyes? do people notice their eyes? is there anything special about them (shows emotion easily, literally magical...)?
Royce, Douglas, and Amanda all have similar gray eyes, but Royce and Douglas have a hint of blue that makes them seem purple in specific lighting. Royce's tends to seem regal purple, while Douglas' is a violet. But these moments are exceedingly rare due to their glasses filtering the light. Amanda's is a gray hazel, almost a kaleidoscope of colors depending on how you look at her eyes, though. She has captivated people as a child and teen with her majestic eyes, quickly drawing them into her already powerful orbit with just a simple look.
Marianna and E share the same dark amber eyes as their mother. It's a hallmark of telling who's a Lanshire since anybody directly related to them share those same eyes. However, Marianna and E look subtly different due to their personalities, as E's could be compared to a sunset, a warm and nurturing color fit for the town's sweetheart, while Marianna's is like a brewing inferno, a fierce temperant and stern determination meant for an ambitious politician. But sometimes you notice a hint of red in their eyes, Marianna being caught more often due to her temper. E was only noticeable on the soccer field when they were getting desperate or angry during a match.
J is a deep brown but not quite dark enough to look black. It's more comparable to mahogany as it has a tinge of redness within its bottomless depths. But most people think it's brown-black due to how emotionless and cold they seem, letting the future lawyer's frigid personality drain what color and life is inside their eyes. However, there are certain days when you can see the pure color on display, but they often are hidden away from the public when this happens. Their eye bags further darken their eyes, but people don't notice that since they use makeup to cover it up.
Luz is a light brown that people often mistake for amber. However, this is only due to the golden flecks in their irises, which turn their eyes to a lovely shade of gold in sunlight. People often become mesmerized by this sight, as the bright smile and golden facial features set them up as angels in the flesh. But sometimes, you can see them glow in dim or dark areas, and the gold almost shines.
Ji-Min's is the purest of black, further punctuated by their deep eye bags and relatively pallor skin. Most people don't look into their eyes; they always seem to study people and their surroundings intently, making others a bit unnerved by the complete focus from those endlessly black eyes. However, sometimes they look more unnerving if they don't sleep, as the redness from sleep deprivation makes them look more manic.
D is a strange case. Their eyes are a vivid forest green, a fitting color for someone so attuned to the natural world. But most people don't know they have heterochromia, which they cover up with contacts. Their strange eyes caused them to be ostracised in their Irish village, going on to cover them up with green contacts. Nobody truly knows what hides behind these contacts; only D will never take them for anybody at the risk of being reminded of their otherness.
Pasha's eyes are ice blue, which shines in the dead of night but hides from the light of morning. Their eyes have always been sensitive to sunlight, and they must squint to see past the glaring sunlight. Then again, you never see them during the day, but they wear sunglasses to keep their vision relatively normal if they must leave the comfort of their home. Sometimes, you can see a milky haze over their eyes, dampening their bright blue eyes with their gray hue.

A frail looking person who is a martial arts master and can take on 10 guys at once is tougher than they look. A burly, sturdy guy who can only take a few hits before crying for mommy is weaker than they look. A 4 means just as tough as they look. Much weaker than they look 1 2 3 4 (he looks as tough as he actually is) 5 6 7 Much tougher than they look
How scary does your character look at first glance? Not scary at all 1 2 3 4 5 (rather intimidating) 6 7 Terrifying

How Special is Too Special? The Politics and Characterization of Stacking Special/Abnormal Traits on Mixed Race Characters
Anon asked:
Good morning/afternoon/evening! I hope this message finds you all well. Thank you for putting in all the effort you do into this blog!
I had several questions about a specific character of mine. He’s an agender biracial individual (Japanese/white) and the tritagonist of the game. He was formerly the second-in-command of a corrupt military organization, but he betrays them in order to work with the protagonist due to a similar goal.
However, both him and the main character (a white nonbinary character) are nonhuman, cosmic horror-esque entities that came to be due to unethical research. He isn’t the only character of color in the story, however I worry that going the nonhuman route with his character may be demeaning. Both him and the main character have two forms, a human disguise and their more monstrous forms. Do you have any tips on how I can handle this aspect of his character in a respectful way?
Another part I would like to ask about is regarding the “Green-Eyed Asian” stereotype / trope. He has complete heterochromia that gives him one green eye and one brown one, due to his white mother’s striking green eyes being a component of her powers. Similarly, he has piebaldism, a skin condition similar to vitiligo that gives him lighter patches of skin and a white streak in his otherwise black hair. Are these too akin to making him ‘unique’ due to him being half-Japanese?
Finally, he’s a fairly intimidating character, standing at 6'8" and being pretty bulky / muscular. I try to emphasize that his reputation is the cause of his intimidation factor, but I don’t want it to seem as though he’s inherently scary. He has a pretty sarcastic and cynical personality as well, albeit one accented with a big heart. Is his appearance something I should avoid emphasizing?
Why?
Your affection for this character’s design comes through in this ask. However from a narrative standpoint, I don’t know how much help we can offer. All you have told us is that he looks very distinctive, but you haven’t told us 3 critical points surroundings your motivations for these appearance choices:
How his unique appearance will affect him
How his appearance intersects with these experiences, particularly within the context of the military
What experiences drive his personality
Without communicating these points, you’ve created a character utilizing multiple tropes without providing a sense of how these tropes relate to your story. I think for less experienced writers, there is a lot of attraction in making distinctive characters. It’s much less work for an author to create a plot that revolves around a few highly abnormal characters. The audience gets to see the cool, OP people do cool things, too. However, a compelling story requires more than a few charismatic OCs. Your plot and character dynamics are not necessarily enriched merely by making a character incredibly distinctive.
The part about his being in the military is especially key. Military organizations encourage homogeneity. Individuals who fall outside the norm draw attention that is rarely beneficial, unless your character thrives under scrutiny and increased pressure. For a 6’8” LGBT+, biracial individual with heterochromia and piebaldism who is the product of unethical research to rise through the ranks to a prominent position is not necessarily impossible. However, for there to be no discussion of the barriers, experiences and motivations that led them there, particularly within a corrupt organization where power only serves beneficiaries of the status quo, is a glaring omission. Based on the above, I don’t really see how having him be Japanese serves any purpose. I’ll leave Rina to explain some of the trope issues with the appearance choices you’ve made.
- Marika.
So the “Green Eyed East Asian” trope.
It’s a little more complex when it comes to the representation of mixed people.
ON ONE HAND: mixed East Asians can definitely have green eyes, and we have had numerous discussions on WWC as to how genetics are a crapshoot. It is important to never frame the green eyes discussion around whether certain genetic traits are “unrealistic.”
HOWEVER: White/E.Asian mixes are overwhelmingly given the green eye treatment in media for a few key reasons:
Non-asian writers feel as though there’s no way to show the character’s Obvious Caucasity except to give them an Obviously Caucasian eye color or hair colour. After all, only white people have light skin or light eyes, of course. Park from Eleanor and Park is an example of that.
Mainland E. Asian writers feel as though a single drop of whiteness will contaminate a character’s E. Asian-ness and render them irrevocably foreign. And they want to show that. Think about Suoh Tamaki (“Pardon me, René Tamaki Richard de Grantaine Suoh” - Marika says as they die from laughter) from Ouran High School Host Club or Tamaki Ann from Persona 5 (TWO Tamakis?!).
General exotification of mixed-ness on a foundation of eurocentric beauty. Blue/green eyes are rare and beautiful, right? Wow! So are mixed people, right? ;))
This thread by mixed Japanese artist Yoshi Yoshitani makes some very pertinent and nuanced observations about the portrayal of mixed East Asians around the globe. It simultaneously acknowledges that while these green/blue-eyed mixed people aren’t unrealistic, they’re green/blue-eyed (and overrepresented as such) because of various cultural beliefs and agendas.
I am aware that your reasoning for the eyes is to show hereditary magical powers, but this, too, is a tired trope unless you can truly justify why the power is concentrated in the eyes. This is especially because green eyes are in fact a natural eye colour; assigning magical properties to them can put that trait on a eurocentric pedestal. Why is the evidence of magic/superpower in the character’s eyes? Must there be a visible sign of this power, and if so, how are these magical characters treated differently? What are the worldbuilding implications of this? How about the worldbuilding implications of your other character design choices?
~Mod Rina
In Conclusion
We think this Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot tritagonist sounds more like an OC than a fully realized character. We are curious to know if the strength of your character would still come through if you removed some of these visual characteristics. We also would have preferred to hear more about the actual plot, worldbuilding and character arcs. Please feel free to resubmit if you are able to answer these questions.
- Rina and Marika.
PSA to all of our users - Motivation Matters: This lack of clarity w/r to intent has been a general issue with many recent questions. Please remember that if you don’t explain your motivations and what you intend to communicate to your audience with your plot choices, character attributes, world-building etc., we cannot effectively advise you beyond the information you provide. We Are Not Mind Readers. If, when drafting these questions, you realize you can’t explain your motivations, that is likely a hint that you need to think more on the rationales for your narrative decisions. My recommendation is to read our archives and articles on similar topics for inspiration while you think. I will be attaching this PSA to all asks with similar issues until the volume of such questions declines.

Headcanon: The Aburame Clan is Actually just as Bad as The Hyuuga Clan, but Aburame Branches act like Special Tributaries, not Condemmed Slaves
I just love the Aburame clan peeps okay? I love Shino, and Shibi, and Torune, and Muta, and Bug Ninjas are just so up my fucking alley, y'all don't even know. But as I expand my version of Aburame Clan Lore for my own enjoyment, I had a thought. Am I fully invested in this headcanon? Naw, I just thought it might be an interesting take but it's also partially fanfic too. I decided to share it anyways because why not?
Edit: oops I thought I had added a read more line.
••
Despite the obvious consanguinous marriage going on in the NartVerse, Shibi married Kiyo Hibiki (oc #1), a strong and accomplished kunoichi in her own right, but essentially a "village girl" with no historical prestige about her name. This was a rare instance of a complete outsider marrying into the clan, and even rarer, it was out of love. Because of this, Shibi refused to marry his predetermined fiance, which was his 4th cousin (oc #2) named Sarin. Sarin was the older sister of Yasushi (oc #3), who was also the last Formal Master of Kochu and Yoji Aburame's mother.
The main purpose of the coupling was simply a pattern that had developed over the clan's history to keep up the Main Familial line's pedigree in check and favorable. Unlike Dojutsu wielding clans, where Potency of the single Dojutsu is coveted, The Aburame clan has multiple branch families that specialize in certain traits and characteristics that are helpful to an Insect Weilding Shinobi, and many families specialize in specific Insect Usage for generations indefinitely. The Aburame clan is actually HUGE as a result. However, Kikaichu are the most coveted as they live off of and manipulate Chakra. Kikaichu Tolerance is a must for Clanhead Descendants.
Example: Lady Kakine (Shino's Pat. Grandmother/oc #4) was the daughter of the Aburame Clanhead and a Rinkaichu Master of that generation. Lady Kakine had a younger brother named Kachio (oc #5) who became the father of Shikuro Aburame.
Shibi and Shikuro were first cousins, and Shibi has evey ability to tolerate Rinkaichu as well. But like Kakine herself, who was the first "renewal" of that specific trait in a while, he was dismissed from Rinkaichu and was made to focus on Mastery of Kikaichu, the bread and butter of the clan.
The only exceptions to the rule made were if a coupling helped bring prestige to the clan, as with Lady Kakine and Lord Taibi Aburame (oc #6) a non-hive individual (*bad trait*), yet a member who built rapport with the Third Hokage as an accomplished ANBU operative with a special Hanekakushi Summoning (*compensation and benefit* **These were the leaders first bestowed Noble Status too, after defeating the Kamizuru Clan in defense of Konoha**)
***This is why Shibi was the one who took Torune in after Shikuro died. I REFUSE to believe Torune was left a touch starved orphan, LET SHIBI HUG TORUNE***
Because Shibi broke family tradition (not that Sarin minded, she and Shikuro HAD been a thing and also maybe most definitely encouraged Shibi to follow his heart because they were happy for him???) Shino was born with a muddled pedigree that definitely ruined a good amount of the Main Familial Line's poison resistance for one thing (Rinkaichu venom included). However, Kikaichu Tolerance IS what makes the Aburame clan, and has been so heavily emphasized that Shino showed no immediate or latent signs of intolerance. Shino also sparred heavily with other members as a child to test such things, especially with a non-hive member named Chiaki (oc #7), 3 years his senior and a Yellow Hornet/Apoidea specialist. Shino got stung a LOT. But at least he was able to tough it out lmao. That's all the clan elders cared about. Chiaki hated causing Shino pain, but also didn't want to lose more of his own insects to those monstrous Kikaichu than he had too.
Shino is currently recognized as Shibi's heir, but Shino had to WORK SO DAMN HARD to earn that fucking recognition. This is partially why Shino was so... asocial even as a young child, and so full of self doubt and anxiety when it came to simply being able to be CONFIDENT in himself and his abilities. He wasn't hated by his own clan, but older clan members were NOT the most approving of him. But they better have kept their opinions to themselves, because Shibi was an absolute horror to deal with when provoked. Younger clan members absolutely LOVE/D Kiyo and by association, couldn't bring themselves to ever see Shino in a negative light. So his mom was a commoner, what of it!?
Traditionally, Aburame couples with Specializations will have two children when that specific trait/characteristic is chosen to be the next add-on to the Main Familial Line. One child would be offered as a tribute and the other would continue that specific family's legacy. And as it was a pattern among many known and unknown traits of the Aburame clan, members could usually predict when a specific trait/characteristic would be in demand. It is considered an honor to be a Tribute, yet it is also an extremely tense time for the family of the tribute to the say the very least. Not to mention dehumanizing. But that's what makes Shino so special, he was made out of Love <3.
Bonus Headcanons for sticking around this long lol:
•Shibi passed Fire Release to Shino while Kiyo, passed Earth Release to Shino
•Shibi has deep viridian green eyes, Kiyo has bright golden brown eyes, so Shino has shimmering hazel green eyes, or the more flowery version, Shino has Central Heterochromia with outer green and inner brown and brown specks too!
•Shino is quite a literal mix of his parents in general <3
•Shino has a predetermined fiance of his own, but is TRYING to put that shit off for as long as possible. His fiance, Moya (oc #8) highly respects Shino but is in mutual agreement. Her trait is Venom resistance via Exposure, and as an adult works specifically as Konoha Hospital's Resident Toxicologist under Eirou Nara (oc #9), a lead Pharmacist within the Hospital. Shino and Moya have a good, but awkward relationship. If Torune were still alive, he'd ABSOLUTELY tease Shino AND Moya about it.
• I just like creating drama, man, it's kinda fun in it's own way.
So yeah, food for thought. Because as fun as it is play around with Kekkei Genkai in theory, all and all, being part of a clan must totally suck.
#aburame shino#shino aburame#tis i#anime: naruto#shibi aburame#shikuro aburame#torune aburame#yoji aburame#aburame clan#srsly let shibi hug torune#that's probably one of the most important things here lol

Hello!! Ti's I!! Heathen!!
You have been excused, that is very reasonable and life tends to do that. And thank you!
Yeah, of course there wasn't much to go off from the two asks so that's completely reasonable. And the magical ones are more of an au, actually. Usually he is Just Some Dude (Outwardly, he has a lot going on internally) but it is fun to dabble in the more obvious fantasy stuff with him. Most of the time I portray him as a mermaid, but that's just because mermaids are fun. The wings/deer stuff is just what I think he'd look like as a fantasy land creature.
I hadn't really thought about it but maybe subconsciously!! Like, I associate him with both deer and cats, but mostly because he does have a cat-like personality. I just looked up what deer were associated with for this, and he could definitely be associated with them! Especially with the regeneration/rebirth that's associated with them loosing their antlers. As a child (The first time around, what I draw most of the time is more of a second chance at life) he was definitely what deer were associated with; He was gentle and kind and easily scared, and was quite delicate as well. He did toughen up, under no good circumstance, and the machinery he surrounds himself with could be symbolic of that. A metal casing to shield himself from the worst of life, something for him to hide in and get lost in. That was a bit of a tangent and me getting ideas for his character but!! In short!! I hadn't thought of it but now that I am thinking about it; He could be associated with a deer. And a peacock whenever he walks because he is much too prideful and, depending on the day, will strut about like he owns the world.
Yes, they are tattoos!! They aren't supposed to be a specific plant, no, but they are more a representation of his love for vegetation. I'm not sure if I've touched on this before, but I'm working on a magic system (Not sure if it's soft or hard, I wanna try for hard but that means working out a lot of stuff) and he is very good at plant-related magic. Like, he can do it flawlessly without it taking too much of a toll on him (Using too much magic or doing too much of a magic type that you aren't used to can be very draining and can be fatal in some cases) but it means he can't do much else, and he's fine with it. He can do some shape-shifting but that is mostly unrelated to his magical prowess.
In glad I managed to get that right though!! Like the awkward height, I mean, and the sturdiness. He is certainly just existing, even if he is a little bit malicious at times
Man's just wearing what makes him feel good!! Usually he'd wear a crumpled button up and suspenders and slacks, (No its not because I don't know much fashion aside from button ups) but all of those would be covered in oil stains and such. I will draw him looking more himself once I figure out how to make someone look chaotic and addled but!! For now deer man gets to wear business casual!
(I have managed to draw him looking a bit more him but he's in drag lmao, if you're interested in seeing Just Some Dude in a short dress then feel free to ask for it /pos, /gen)
I'm glad I managed to incorporate it! He's just a little green man longing for a little green world. And he has sectional heterochromia! His eyes are both brown and green, but the green isn't part of his genetics. Fun fact! Heterochromia can be caused by a variety of things, but oftentimes it tends to just be a mutation. One of the things it can be caused by is waardenburg syndrome! It also can cause albinism, deafness, cleft lips, and difficulty with straightening joints!
Yeah, it is pretty funny! And that's pretty cool that you still get to be near mexico's culture, even if it is still heavily us influenced! And that's also pretty cool!
It is very convenient! And I also just like waking up early, it gives me good vibes. If I don't wake up early then I'm permanently tired and feel like I've just wasted the entire day
It's been so long that I actually forgot I sent this! (/pos) I too hope you have had a good few months!!
Ahhh thank youuu, I am always open to sharing him! Obviously there are still some kinks to work out in his character, but that's the same with anything. And thank you again! I'm glad you like my art, I don't know how to respond to compliments about it but I appreciate you <3333
He has curly hair but he has a very prominent reputation with his comb and mirror. If he took care of it like he was supposed to instead of straightening it to a wave, he would have quite curly hair. The poofiness is also a bi-product of me not being able to draw curly hair, only coily or wavy. I do like to think of him with his hair grown out and actually treating it like he should, and I long to be able to draw it </333
And I'm glad you enjoy the scars! He sure didn't like getting them /lh
heathen! hello! please forgive the time it took me to answer this ask. Sometimes it showed up in my askbox, othertimes it wasn't there, so I kept forgetting to actually answer it when it was there!! But I am doing so now
oooh interesting. So Maui is kinda like this base character that you sometimes alter to put in different situations? Like here is who he is (Just Some Dude) but also there's this world I want to explore that I've made and I don't have any characters for it so I am going to Put Him There for now. If that is what you're doing, then I have also done that! In fact, that piece of original writing with an oc I shared a while back was created that way, and I have at least one other piece where I was doing a quick write and just needed filler characters so I took two of my ocs and just stuck them in that world.
and you're right!! mermaids are very fun. My interests usually run a little more towards dragons and monsters, but mermaids are wonderful! Oh that reminds me I actually have a mermaid book that I've been meaning to read, so I'll have to bump it up on my TBR. I haven't read a lot of books that have to do with mermaids so the only one I've actually read that's coming to mind is The Mermaid's Daughter by Ann Claycomb. It was also one of the first books I read that had a queer main character, which really confused me at the time because I was so unused to seeing them that I could not figure out what was happening. Her girlfriend, Harriet, goes by Harry so I just assumed she was male and it took me forever to realize they were queer.
and cool!! I don't know a whole lot about the multiple lives situation, but the deer imagery seems to have an interesting meaning. I do remember you saying he was kind of like a cat, but it's always fun to attribute people to multiple animals!! I mean, no one person is ever that simple, so being cat/deer/peacock like is certainly a noteworthy combination! I really like the machinery symbolism you explained there as well, the way he protects himself and is no longer as deer-like as he used to be in that first childhood. Also I hope you enjoyed thinking about it now that you have thought of it!
tattoos! tattoos are so fun, regardless of what/if they have meaning. I'm planning on getting a few when I'm able to, and it probably comes as no surprise that I'd like to get something dragon related for one of them. Though a love for vegetation seems like as good a reason as any! And I think you've mentioned a magic system before, but never explained what it was. I will say that I love that you have consequences and limits for magic, like rules for what can and can't be done and who can do it. It makes it a little more realistic to not just have these huge things done without consequence, though some is easy enough it feels like it. The comparison my mind is making is that if Maui were a DnD character, his plant related magics are his cantrips. Also oh? I wonder what his shapeshifting related things come from.
you managed to get it very right!! he is Just Some Guy existing awkwardly like Hello I Am Here. And good for him for being malicious. I think we should all be a little malicious as a treat. An act of malice a day keeps everyone away, and that's a noble goal indeed
I am glad he feels good in his clothing!! that is an important aspect of clothing, so whatever it is that gives him the correct vibes I fully support him. I don't know much--if anything--about button ups given that I don't like dealing with the gaps in the front (the curse of the tiddies). Is it a lot of work to fix it? no. but I don't want to. I wish him luck with those oil stains those because those are annoying to get out. Though it does sound like he wouldn't make any attempt to clean the stains and would instead just wear stained clothes for the rest of his life. And good luck with the drawings!! Nothing wrong with how he is now, and you're right that it's a lot harder to draw being disheveled because then there's so many more specific details to it
(also if you'd like to share the drawing I'd love to see it! No pressure of course, but my inbox is always open)
I hope this green little man gets his green little world and can do all the plant magic he wants. I would like to assist him in bringing about this green reality, as I also love plants. Unfortunately my house doesn't have a lot of plants because my mother can kill anything, and neither my dad nor sister really know what they're doing and just follow others instructions. I'd have a lot more plants if my room was actually appropriate for it, because there's very little space to put a plant in my room so any that aren't in my room I forget they exist and then don't take care of them because of it. Actually I just realized there's a plant I haven't watered in a while in the front room hang on. Okay wow I don't think my sister should have plants anymore that was so dry.
I do not know anything about waardenburg syndrome but!! that is a very interesting bit of information that I now have, so thank you for sharing. Eyes that look different colors sometimes happen to fascinate me (especially brown/green as they're like me) so it's very cool to see in a character!!
I do get to be near Mexico's culture in a way, which I do prefer over other places I've lived. it is hard to find things outside of the U.S's influence seeing at it is the U.S. and I live in it, but there are little gems you can find here and there like recipes and information about traditional practices. There's a university in the state that has a summer course on curanderismo, for example.
waking up early is so integral to who I am at this point that I hate the idea of sleeping in. Like no i can't sleep until eight that's like at least an hour and a half of productive time being wasted where I can be doing things.
also apologies for the wait on that post! and also on this one. I am finally catching up!! I think this is the last post in my inbox from 2021 (aside from art requests and an ask that's been in my drafts an embarrassing about of time) and after that the latest is from janurary 15th!! so I've gone from about 2 months for a response down to one, which will hopefully continue to shrink until I can get back to my response within a week preferred method of operating.
thank you for sharing him with me either way!! I don't think there's any character or person who is completely fleshed out and doesn't come with their own kinks to work out, but that's part of the fun!! Sometimes you just start writing anyways and figure it out as you go. There are several things in the wings au that I didn't figure out beforehand that kinda just happened on their own because I left the kinks in the story. also you don't have to respond to the compliments!! I like complimenting people's work because I know how much I love it when people do the same for me, not because you need to say or do anything in response
he is middle school me with his hair. he is. he is doing all the wrong things and just going with it. Though in my defense my mother is White and has the straightest hair I have ever seen so I had to figure (and still am figuring) things out all on my own much later. Oh I just know his hair is so poofy and frizzy. Also drawing curly hair can be daunting at times!! I believe in you though, it just takes practice! One day you shall be able to draw it as you see it <33
also oh no to his scars. certainly doesn't seem like something of which the acquisition would be enjoyed. But! it does give him a bit of character
and to finish off: it's very nice to talk to you (even though it's not the same as talking about you actually sent this a while ago) and I hope you're doing well!
#legitimately though sometimes I'd open my ask box and scroll down to where this should be and it just#wasn't there#but it was there this time!!#so I could respond to it!!#I am very impressed by the knowledge you have of maui#so many of my ocs are just vague concepts in my mind#with no way to actually explain them to others#quil's queries#heathen nonsie#long post#other's ocs

I don't know if you've noticed this but, White eyebrows in Moonshadow elves are a recessive gene. Both of Rayla's parents have brown eyebrows, she has white ones. Purple eyes also seem to be recessive, as neither of Rayla's parents have them. Green eyes are recessive in humans. So if both eye colors are recessive, but different colors. What eye color would a rayllum child have?
It would depend on whether the genes responsible for eye colour in elves correspond easily with those responsible for eye colour in humans!
I personally worldbuild elves and humans as members of the same genus, so close enough to crossbreed, but distant enough that you get the customary issues with hybrids. I.e. sterile males, many sterile females, and a wide variety of potential genetic fuckery.
Where you have a gene in the human, this may not correspond perfectly to the equivalent gene in the elf. When genetic information is exchanged between the gametes, it may not cross over perfectly. Some parts may carry across from one parent and then have no match from the other, and the gene then fails to express or develop properly. Sometimes that half meshes with something else that doesn't match it completely, so the gene expression is Weird. A very large number of outcomes are possible.
With the eyes, as with any other hybrid gene, we have a few options.
1. The eye genes correspond neatly. Either eye colour could be inherited. More detail on likelihood is impossible to determine without extant examples of the heritability of one colour versus the other
2. The eye genes fall under some degree of 'do not correspond neatly'. I think it unlikely that these species would be genetically distinct enough to cause potential eye defects, but plenty of principles of co-dominance or incomplete dominance could hold. This means you could have weird unlikely eye colour outcomes. Some examples include hyperpigmentation (high amount of pigment - does NOT mean brighter colour necessarily, as many eye colours are structurally based rather than pigment based, especially the lighter ones), hypopigmentation, and idk maybe even heterochromia. Heck, why not sectoral heterochromia while you're at it.
As a general rule, eye colour genetics are kind of complicated in humans. There's like, up to 15 different genes involved in it. And Any One Of Those could refuse to play nicely with the elven equivalent eye colour genes, causing weirdness. Honestly you could choose to go literally either way you wanted with this. There's no wrong answer. I'd only caution you to avoid giving your Rayllum fanbabies extremely different colours to their parents unless you do a lot of research into the structural and pigmentation reasons for specific eye colours first.
#asks#meta#genetics#man i keep meaning to do more reading on genetics because i want to Understand Them but i know so little#so much desire. so few spoons#thanks for the ask#it's exciting to do complex biological speculation for fantasy races

Chapter 3:
My mom made burgers for dinner, beef for her and Emory, and Turkey for me. I sprinkled a bit of garlic salt on mine and placed a slice of American cheese on the patty, then placed my patty on the hamburger bun, (I don’t like anything else on it). I grabbed a paper plate and placed my burger on it, and grabbed some curly fries off the pan. “Thanks, mom.” I said as I was getting the bottle of honey mustard from the fridge.
“You’re welcome, honey.” I squeezed a bit of honey mustard onto my plate to dip my burger and fries in, and put it back in the fridge before sitting down at the table across from Emory.
I split my burger in half with my hands and dipped one half in the honey mustard. I’m the only one who likes honey mustard, neither my mom or my brother like it.
You’re probably wondering, ‘What about your dad?’ Well, my father passed away when I was about six and Emory was four, so we don’t really remember him. He had stage 4 cancer and he fought as hard as he could, but cancer won in the end. My mom was devastated, but she has been able to take care of Emory and I just fine.
I finished my burger and fries before my mom even got to the table, so I just threw my plate away and went back to my room to read my Babysitters Club book. I know these books are old, and they used to be my mom’s when she was my age, but I don’t care. I love The Babysitters Club, and I have a lot of them. Granted, my mom collected them a while ago. I was reading Logan Likes Mary Anne. Mary Anne is my favorite character because she goes by her first and middle name, just like me!
Okay, enough about The Babysitters Club. I read for awhile until about 8:00, and then I went to bed.
I woke up the next morning, nervous to go to school because I was gonna have to see Ian. Wait… he’s bringing me to school. You can’t see, but I just face-palmed. I slowly got out of bed and sluggishly walked over to my closet. I was looking through my clothes when my phone dinged. I grabbed my phone off my bed, and saw that I had a text from Ian.
Dont forget, my brother and i are picking u up, k?
Me: k
I don’t know how, but I had completely forgotten that neither Ian nor I were old enough to drive, and that his older brother would have to drive us. I threw on my favorite oversized tee, along with some jean shorts and knee socks with combat boots that are really chonky. My t-shirt was black with a plumbob on it (specifically the one from The Sims 4) and it said my name in Simlish. My shirt almost covered my shorts, but that was fine with me. I like my shirts extra long (it’s a large).
My boots were just plain black, but my socks had tiny cowplants lining the top. You’re probably wondering what I look like, aren’t you?
I have shoulder length orange hair that’s parted down the middle, and I usually have it in a high ponytail. I have heterochromia in my eyes, so one eye is brown and the other is bright green. I have freckles sprinkled all over my nose and cheeks, which my mom says makes me adorable, but I don’t like being called “adorable”. I’ve got pretty long eyelashes, which I cake in mascara because they are practically invisible. I wear my eyeliner, cat eye style, and bright red lip gloss on my almost non-existent lips. I’m only five-foot-three, and Ian’s five-foot-eight. In case you were wondering, which you probably weren’t. Wondering my body type? Well, if you look up the girl group, BLACKPINK, I have their body type. Skinny, but still… how do I say this? Attractive? Well, anyways.
I wouldn’t exactly call myself popular. In fact, I am pretty sure I’m one of the least popular kids at my school. I’m surprised Ian even knows who I am. Wait, I just realized something. HOW did Ian know my phone number? And HOW did I know that it was Ian I was texting? I guess I just wasn’t thinking.
I finished getting ready, and I grabbed some peanut butter crackers on my way out the door, so I would have something to get me through to lunch.
As soon as I walked out the door, Ian and his brother pulled up in a white Jeep. When I turn sixteen, I want a Jeep, that’s my dream car. I was in awe that Ian’s brother owned a Jeep! Ian rolled down the window and called out, “C’mon, babe! You don’t wanna be late, right?!” for a quick second, I was stunned that Ian just called me babe. I don’t know why, but it gave me a little happy feeling in my heart. I’m glad that my mom and brother had already left, because I genuinely have no idea how they would react to Ian calling me babe.
Before I could open the door, Ian jumped out of the car and opened the door for me. “You look hot today, Charlie Rose.” I couldn’t tell if he was just going along with the fake relationship thing, or if he actually thought I was hot.
I leaned over and whispered to him, “Does your brother know this is fake?” he answered, “No, everyone I know thinks we’re actually dating.”
I was about to get in the car when Ian grabbed my t-shirt and pulled me towards him. This can’t be happening, this isn’t real, this isn’t real, I kept telling myself. I had a shocked look on my face when Ian leaned down and kissed me on the lips, and he was kissing me HARD. I knew he was just doing it to show off to his brother, but I kinda liked it. Even though my eyes were wide open the whole time Ian was holding me tight around my waist, and he wouldn’t quit kissing me so I had to push him off of me with all of my strength. Ian’s pretty strong. When I pushed him off, he tried to kiss me again. I have no idea why, so I pushed him away. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see his brother staring at us with a startled look on his face. He finally said something to Ian, “Bro, stop! She doesn’t wanna kiss you right now, man!” Ian looked at his brother and gave him an “are you serious?” face. “Bruh, just help her get in the car, and stop kissing her without her consent!”
I was glad his brother said something because I was about to kiss Ian back, and I DID NOT want Ian to know I liked him.
