Mordred: I’m gay
Achilles: I’m gayer
Shakespeare: In that outfit?
Spartacus: So what’s next for Mr. New Gay Man?
Semiramis: You still owe me $45
Amakusa: Would you like to go on record stating that for our organization’s diversity initiative?
Karna: I knew the second you told me you were gay
Atalante: This has been so obvious ever since I started stalking you
Kairi: Hi gay, I’m dad

"The fuel of that enterprise [the success of the human species] is diversity, and whether we like it or not, that is what we are - a motley crew of large apes who have been blessed with a smattering of languages, cultures, and ideas. When someone speaks of a culture war, or a threat by another identity, that is what they are attacking - you, a beautiful animal with a wonderful brain, because you are different. We all are. Never forget."
Spartacus Olsson in "The End of Anne Frank’s Diary - War Against Humanity 108"

Conflicting Lives Characters as Incorrect Quotes (because why the hell not)
All quotes generated randomly from this site. also some funny characters that haven't been introduced yet :)
Joel: Having two partners is both amazing and complicated. But all our problems are solved with communication. Etho: It’s my turn to cuddle Lizzie. Joel: FIVE MORE MINUTES DAMMIT!
Joel: Aww, what's your dog's name? Scythe: Spartacus. Joel, yelling to Scar: TRY SPARTACUS! Scar, on the computer: DIDN'T WORK! Scythe: … Joel: What's your favorite number?
Scar: Are you a painting? Grian: What-? Scar: Because I want to pin you to a wall. Joel: OH GOD I THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO SAY YOU WANTED TO HANG HIMOR SOMETHING-
Scythe, talking about Ella: I would never say that my partner is a bitch and I don’t don’t like them. That’s not true… My partner is a bitch and I like them so much!
Scott: Yeah, a partner sounds nice, but a supreme enemy you can make out with in secret sometimes sounds a lot more hardcore.
*in the ZITS group chat* Tango: First one to reply is gat. Tango: *gay Tango: Wait...
*after discussing the plan in ch.2* Voidling: Does anyone have any questions? Xelqua: Is this legal? Voidling: …Does anyone have any relevant questions?
I plan on getting out a list of all the ships I have in this AU, but feel free to ask about anything in the meantime!

Poll for THG Book Club's First Read!
What book should we read for our first Suzanne Read? Summaries of each book and how it relates to THG under the "read more" after the poll if you need more info to choose.
Summary: In Thomas Hardy's first major literary success, independent and spirited Bathsheba Everdene has come to Weatherbury to take up her position as a farmer on the largest estate in the area. Her bold presence draws three very different suitors: the gentleman-farmer Boldwood, the soldier-seducer Sergeant Troy, and the devoted shepherd Gabriel Oak. Each, in contrasting ways, unsettles her decisions and complicates her life, and tragedy ensues, threatening the stability of the whole community. One of his first works set in the semi-fictional region of Wessex, Hardy's novel of swift passion and slow courtship is imbued with his evocative descriptions of rural life and landscapes, and with unflinching honesty about sexual relationships.
Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy
How it relates to THG: "Katniss Everdeen owes her last name to Bathsheba Everdene, the lead character in Far From the Madding Crowd. The two are very different, but both struggle with knowing their hearts." Suzanne Collins, 2010
Summary: Coriolanus is a tragedy by William Shakespeare, believed to have been written between 1605 and 1608. The play is based on the life of the legendary Roman leader Caius Marcius Coriolanus.
Coriolanus by William Shakespeare
How it relates to THG: The namesake of Coriolanus Snow (ft. Volumnia)
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
Summary: Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel presents the epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.
How it relates to THG: Quoted in the epigraph of TBOSAS
Spartacus by Howard Fast
Summary: The story of a slave uprising in the ancient Roman Empire.
How it relates to THG: "There’s a basis for the war, historically, in the Hunger Games, which would be the third servile war, which was Spartacus’ war, where you have a man who is a slave who is then turned into a gladiator who broke out of the gladiator school and led a rebellion and then became the face of the war. So there is a historical precedent for that arc for a character.  But I think I needed the freedom to create elements that I wasn’t going to neatly find in history." Suzanne Collins, 2013
Summary: A plane crashes on a desert island. The only survivors are a group of schoolboys. By day, they discover fantastic wildlife and dazzling beaches, learning to survive; at night, they are haunted by nightmares of a primitive beast. Orphaned by society, it isn't long before their innocent childhood games devolve into a savage, murderous hunt …
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
How it relates to THG: "One of my favorite books - I read it every couple of years." Suzanne Collins

The Dothraki really just exist to show how Different and Civilized Daenerys is from them. She’s light skinned and light haired, her language has a word for ‘thank you’, she’s educated, she has to tell them to stop raping women, she has to steer them towards Goodness, she’s a victim of their society until she subjugates them. The Dothraki don’t actually matter on a small-scale; they’re just a symbol of the Backwards and the Uncivilized. Oh, and let’s make sure everyone is well aware that they are Not White.
GRRM decided that he wanted Daenerys to be white and to “save” brown and black people, whom he decided to write as lesser than and unable to save themselves. An entire continent, and we don’t see a slave leader or rebel similar to Spartacus or Nat Turner ?
This is why my anons have called his decisions there racist, and I'll actually just quote one here:
It’s not a matter of “X culture is not more virtuous than Y culture”, it’s a matter of “the characters of color get awful, superficial characterization and a violent culture attached to them, meanwhile the white characters have extensive characterization and a violent culture attached to them”. (link)
The problem isn't that one character who happened to be violent happened to be a poc. It's the discrepancy in characterization he gives one group, denies another. In my other ask we talk about this more. It would have been such an easy thing to insert someone who objected to slavery of the violent way of life, and honestly, the expected thing, considering how he generally writes such a diverse cast of characters in each POV. 🤷🏻‍♀️

A trope I hate but oddly love
Just a rant on a tv trope that doesn't really make sense
The "second" love trope, it's after the Main male character (mmc) has already found his true life and she usually dies and then another female main character comes and the start a relationship with feelings but it always ends because the only thing keeping them from just being happy is that the MMC has to be miserable without this first wife. He could never love another like 'her'. I hate it because I always end up falling for the second love, examples of this are Mira and Spartacus from the Spartacus tv show and Tommy and Lizzie from Peaky blinders. It's annoying because it's always potential and could be shown as a beautiful love story if the writers had wanted it to be but they always end tragically. I guess it's romantic if we're looking at the true love perspective. but at the same time you can love more than one person in your lifetime. Most people have had exes and if you loved them I doubt it was the exact same like copy and paste type of love. Everything is usually there, build up, chemistry etc etc, the only thing holding them back is that these mmcs can't love anybody like the first wife.
A fav quote from Spartacus that pretty much shows how these relationships always end up
Spartacus: I have given you what's left of it (his heart)
Mira: it is not enough
