Eclipse: Chapter 29

HADES XXIX Nico’s Favourite Janitor Returns

Hades hadn’t been certain if Apollo would accept his offer, but he remembered the pain in his nephew’s voice as he talked and sang about his deceased children in Tartarus and knew he’d had to make it. Why he had been following Zeus’ rule about visiting Elysium he didn’t know, although there was some sense in restricting the gods’ access to the dead in case any more of them got it into their heads to try and bring some back.

The dead were, after all, his domain and he was not going to sit back and surrender the subjects of his realm to the whims of the other gods, especially those with no respect for death and its necessity.

Still, he could give Apollo the opportunity for some closure, for his nephew’s sake, and appreciated that while he could feel that the younger god had sent part of his essence to Elysium, where it was splintering out further and further as he began to find the souls he wanted to interact with, he had also stayed with them. That would save hassle in waking William, and pacify Nico somewhat.

It was nothing short of a relief as the large, ornate black gates of his palace greeted him, swinging wide open as he approached. Skeletons jumped to attention, lining the main path to the main doors as they passed through the courtyard. This was Hades’ own palace, the heart of his domain where his word was law, and his essence finally settled into an appeased peace as he passed through the giant doors.

Apollo and Bob followed him, his nephew glancing around as though the opulence of the palace was strange to him, while Bob seemed perfectly at ease within its pitch dark walls and vibrant gemstone and precious metal décor. Ordinarily, upon return – usually after one of his rarely-permitted visits to Olympus – Hades always headed straight for his throne room, settling on it and giving himself a moment to reassure himself that he was, still, powerful after the indignity of being given little more than a footstool amongst the twelve great thrones his brethren lounged upon.

Here, with Apollo and Bob after the trials of Tartarus, he had nothing to prove, neither to himself nor his audience. Apollo deferred to him well enough within his own domain, not that his nephew had ever been one of the gods peacocking against him. Peacocking in general, yes, but Apollo had never rubbed his status in his face like some of the other gods. Hades had no need to reaffirm his status; instead, he had a son to see.

The shadows around Nico’s door still held strong; Asclepius and, somewhat surprisingly, Thanatos appeared to have passed through to see the demigods while he had been in Tartarus, but neither Nico nor William had left. Asclepius was still in the room, a spark of light against the general darkness. Good; Hades hadn’t thought he would be foolish enough to try and escape, but it was nonetheless gratifying to see that he had not overestimated the younger god’s intelligence.

With a wave of his hand, he dismissed the shadows.

Nico’s door slowly swung inwards, and immediately there was movement from within. Before it finished opening, his son was there, drawn sword in his hand.

Directly behind him was William, who was somehow awake and no longer in the coma Hades clearly remembered Apollo singing him into. From their postures, it was clear that William did not intend on being behind Nico, but that Hades’ son had given him no choice in the matter. The son of Apollo did not look particularly impressed, but that expression faded into something else, wide eyed as he looked past Hades and at his companions.

Hades was not particularly interested in William’s reaction. He was more interested in Nico’s, as his son looked up at him, dark eyes a mix of resentful and… relieved? Hades didn’t know what to make of that. Then Nico’s eyes slid sideways, skipping over where Apollo stood with barely a flicker of acknowledgement, before coming to a wide-eyed stop on Bob.

“Bob?”

His voice was uncertain, almost a little shaky, and Hades didn’t miss the way that William tried to step up next to him, only for Nico to jut his shoulder out awkwardly, blocking him from getting any closer. Was Nico… afraid? After the way he’d been so determined to rescue the titan, fear was the last reaction he’d expected. His son had never feared the titan while he swept the halls as a janitor, spending hours at a time sitting nearby, or even on Bob’s shoulder, talking with him as he worked.

Hades hadn’t approved at the time, but with no memories, Bob appeared to be no threat-

Ah.

The Bob Nico knew had had no memories. Before that, he’d met Iapetus, who had tried very hard to kill him prior to his Lethe bath. Now, Nico did not know which version of the titan he was facing, although Hades hoped his son at least recognised that he would not allow the titan to stand behind him, let alone approach his son, if he believed there to be any threat.

“Nico,” Bob replied. Hades stepped to the side slightly to allow the titan to take a step closer, still partially blocking just to be certain that Bob was not, at the last moment, going to turn, and also with the intent of providing a physical barrier for Nico’s own fears. Bob knelt down to be closer to the demigods’ eye level. “I am glad to see you again.”

Hades watched as his son assessed the titan, still not allowing William to draw level with him, much to the son of Apollo’s clear frustration, for several seconds. To his credit, Bob did not move, or otherwise react, clearly aware that he ran a high possibility of spooking Nico should he move too quickly.

“How much do you remember?” Nico finally asked, meeting Bob’s eyes squarely, his shoulders still set and his grip on his sword sure.

Bob’s expression turned as soft as Hades had ever seen it. “Everything,” he said honestly, remaining stock still as Nico’s knuckles whitened. “My past as Iapetus, yes, but also my time as Bob, when you treated me with nothing but kindness and became my friend – a friend I gladly returned to the Pit to aid. I would like to continue that friendship, Nico di Angelo, if you would let me.”

Nico’s eyes widened in clear shock, and his sword trembled in his hold. “You… still want to be my friend?”

The titan smiled. “You taught me a lot, about kindness and friendship, and those are things I would like to continue learning,” he said. “It is true that I am not the amnesiac titan you befriended originally, but I would like to move on from my past and create a new future for myself. I have put the name Iapetus behind me now, Nico. My name is Bob. I am the titan of the west, and, if you will still have me, your friend.”

An array of emotions crossed Nico’s open face, shock and disbelief leading before transforming into relief. His shoulders slumped, and his sword disappeared back into the shadows. “I’d like that, Bob,” he said, a bright smile spreading across his face. It was not an expression Hades saw on his son very often, not since Maria and the Lethe and everything that had happened since his children had re-emerged from the Lotus Hotel. He would not say that that smile alone was worth the trials of Tartarus he had gone through, but it certainly didn’t hurt.

“Glad we’ve got that sorted,” William commented, finally succeeding in pushing past Nico’s protruding shoulder and elbow to stand at his side. The words were idle, but Hades had not missed the draining of tension from his body, either, once Bob had confirmed that he still wanted to be Nico’s friend. Despite not being a fighter, the son of Apollo had clearly been prepared to take on the titan in Nico’s name if required.

It was a trait Hades approved of.

Bob turned his head to look at William, still remaining knelt at their height rather than standing up once more. “You must be Phoebus’ son,” he said. “I understand you would not let Nico come to find me alone.”

William paused for a moment, clearly unused to hearing his father called Phoebus despite it being one of his more commonly-used epithets, then scoffed. “Of course I wouldn’t,” he said. “Someone has to keep Mr Lord of Darkness here alive- oof!”

An elbow planted itself in the blond demigod’s gut, courtesy of Nico, who rolled his eyes fondly.

“This is Will,” he said, “my significant annoyance.”

“Hey!”

“Otherwise known as my boyfriend,” he continued, sending William a quick look out of the corner of his eye that was almost sickeningly fond, before meeting Bob’s eyes again, a slight tenseness in his frame the only indication that he was worried about the titan’s reaction. It was a marked difference to when he had told Hades – at the time, Hades had thought his son was ready to turn tail and flee after saying the words, and it had taken some quick reminders about the pantheon’s general lack of care for which genders others chose to pair up with to ease Nico into believing that Hades was not about to disown him, or worse, for falling in love with another boy. Either he trusted Bob more than Hades in such matters, or it had started to sink in that homophobia was only so rampart in modern mortals.

A look of comprehension crossed Bob’s face, and his smile grew. “I see,” he said warmly, turning to face William again. The son of Apollo looked mildly disconcerted to be on the receiving end of a titan’s full focus, but stood his ground regardless, lacing his fingers with Nico’s. “That explains things.”

Startled dark eyes turned to Hades and Apollo. “You didn’t tell him?” Nico asked, clearly surprised.

“It wasn’t our place to tell,” Apollo replied before Hades could formulate a reply. “Just because none of us have any issues with whichever genders or lack thereof someone might like, doesn’t mean it’s not a big deal for you,” he explained, his voice gentle as Nico gaped. “Bob is your friend; you deserved to be the one to tell him.”

“I’m not ashamed of loving Will,” Nico hurried to clarify, as though either Hades or Apollo could have ever believed that. To begin with, Nico had been nervous about it, yes, almost shy, but while Hades knew he had grappled with the internalised homophobia that had been impressed into him during his upbringing, William had never been a source of shame.

“We know,” Apollo reassured him, sliding past Hades and Bob to put his hand on Nico’s shoulder. “It still wasn’t our place to tell.”

The residual strain of tension in Nico’s body slid away again, and Hades saw him offer Apollo a small smile. “Thank you,” he said, before stepping back into his room, tugging William back with him. The son of Apollo obeyed without complaint, and Hades stepped into the room after them, Apollo and Bob at his back.

Asclepius was sitting in the corner of the room, unobtrusive but sharp eyes watching the reunion. Hades ignored him for the moment – he had other things to focus on. The younger god’s punishment could wait for the time being. If Asclepius had not tried to escape while Hades was otherwise occupied in Tartarus and unable to intervene, he would not try it now that Hades was back in the Underworld and fully in control of his domain once more. He kept his attention on the demigods instead, who appeared to have got over their shock that Bob, despite regaining his memories, still counted Nico as a friend, and had instead moved into amazement that Bob was actually there, rescued and out of Tartarus.

William was, perhaps predictably given his parent, the one to ask the question. “What came of the prophecy?” he began. “You two were sunshine and darkness, right? And the silver looks like that might have been Bob, but what about the rest? The topaz and…” He trailed off, clearly unwilling to voice the lines that had sounded most likely to be foretelling his own death yet begging them to tell him it was over and that he wasn’t in imminent danger of dying.

Hades looked at Apollo, seeing no reason to talk about prophecies when their god was present and actually seemed to care about the blasted things. His nephew either took the hint, or was already intending on answering, because he began to talk without any prompting.

“The prophecy has completed,” he assured the demigods with a soft smile, to Hades’ mild surprise. He had not been completely aware of that, although he had suspected it may have happened from the younger god’s countenance. The relief on both children’s faces was palpable. “Hades and I were indeed the sunshine and darkness from the first line, while Bob was the silver from the second. Topaz referred to another titan – my grandfather, Koios, while the third line regarded Thanatos retrieving us with his Doors.” He paused for a moment, and Hades could see the demigods gearing up for an interruption – likely something to do with Koios.

“What of the final line?” he asked, gaining a curious glance from Apollo before comprehension flared in his nephew’s currently blue eyes.

“Koios also escaped through the Doors,” the younger god explained, turning back to the demigods. “We were… unable to stop him leaving the Pit, but he was clear that unlike Bob, he had no desire to live in harmony with the gods, and instead wanted to destroy Olympus.”

“Like Kronos,” William said flatly, a slightly shuttered look snapping into place in his eyes. Hades noticed Nico squeeze his hand tightly, and after a brief moment William returned the gesture. Apollo’s son had fought against Kronos, Hades vaguely recalled hearing; it was unsurprising that he had some residual trauma from the experience.

Apollo visibly winced. “Rather like him, yes,” he admitted. “Once we were out of the Pit, we had to… stop him. He was weakened, and my sister had come to, uh, greet us. Between us, we managed to defeat him and send him back. That occurred at sunset – the fading light of the day.”

William visibly sagged against Nico, who took the weight without flinching. “So no more titans trying to destroy Olympus?” he asked, sounding as though he hardly dared to hope, and Apollo smiled at his son.

“No more titans trying to destroy Olympus,” he confirmed, “and no more prophecy directing the two of you to go into the Pit.”

“Good,” Will said firmly. “Hear that, Nico? No Pit for us.”

“I hear it,” Nico said tiredly. “It’s not like I wanted to go, but…” He paused. “Bob, were you the one calling me?”

“No,” Hades stepped in firmly, before the titan could even make sense of the question. “It was not Bob. Alcyoneus was attempting to lure you down so he could kill you.” Both demigods blanched. “He will not be calling you again any time soon,” he added, a little vindictively.

“I would never call you back into the Pit, Nico,” Bob added, sounding almost wounded at the idea. “It is no place for a demigod at the best of times, and the Primordial had no intentions of allowing me to go free.”

Nico looked at the floor. “I know,” he admitted, his voice barely a whisper. “I knew it didn’t fit, but… I wanted it to mean that you were still alive. I didn’t want you to be destroyed, just because you helped me, and Percy and Annabeth.”

Bob rested a light hand on his shoulder, a small, soft smile on his face. “You are kind, Nico,” he said. “That is a strength, in our world, but be careful it isn’t used against you,” he cautioned. “There are many who would try, if you let them.” Alcyoneus’ name was not brought up again, but Hades suspected he was not the only one thinking of his giant bane. It was unlikely that he would reform again within Nico’s lifetime, but given Orion’s rapid revival, not impossible. “Be careful.”

“I’m keeping an eye on him,” William said, and got another elbow for his trouble, but it put the edge of a smirk back on Nico’s lips regardless. Bob’s smile widened.

“I am sure you are,” he said, and Nico huffed.

“Anyway,” William continued. “Not that I’m in a hurry to leave the Underworld or anything, but if the prophecy is filled, does that mean we’re… safe?” Unsurprisingly, his eyes sought Apollo, who put a hand on his shoulder.

“I still need to talk with my father,” Hades’ nephew said, solemnity taking the place of his fond smile. “Until that conversation is over, it would still be best if you stayed here.”

Raw fear flashed across William’s face, a matching alarm on Nico’s. “Is he likely to…” he stumbled over his words for a moment, glancing down at the floor before meeting Apollo’s eyes squarely. “Be mad with you?” he settled on, the words falling away somewhat pathetically. Apollo’s grip on his shoulder tightened.

“I don’t know,” he said, an admission of ignorance Hades had hardly thought the younger god capable of. “But I don’t want to take any chances with you two, so, please, stay here in Hades’ realm a little longer.”

Hades couldn’t even pretend that William was not permitted to wait longer, and inclined his head when the son of Apollo glanced at him, blue eyes wide with something he suspected was not fear for himself. It was not, then, much of a surprise when William lunged for his father, gripping him in an embrace with white-knuckled hands and the sheer air of desperation. Apollo stared, frozen for a mortal heartbeat, before wrapping his arms around his son in turn.

“Be safe,” William mumbled into his father’s chest. “Don’t give him any more reason to punish you, Dad.” It was less a request and more an order, and part of Hades was surprised at the audacity of a mortal to order a god around – although Nico had the art of irritation down far too well, and Apollo, of all gods, was least likely to take offence, especially from one of his own children.

“I’ll do what I can,” Apollo promised, the words muffled by the mop of blond waves he had buried his face in. “But…”

“I know,” William replied, pressing himself even tighter against his father, if that was possible. “I know, Dad.”

What little could be seen of Apollo’s face could only be described as heartbroken, and Hades stepped forwards.

“As your sister said,” he began, “the less he is made to wait, the less time he will have to wind himself up into a paranoid frenzy.”

Apollo did not reply immediately, nestling his face further into his son’s hair, before his shoulders slumped. “That’s not what she said,” he mumbled after a moment, but did raise his head.

Hades scoffed. “I paraphrased.” Artemis understood the volatile nature of her father well; her softer wording had been unnecessary, in Hades’ opinion, save for keeping Zeus’ wrath away from her. Given the number of occasions she had witnessed her twin’s punishments, it was of little surprise that Artemis picked her words carefully. “Come, the sooner we see my brother, the sooner this nonsense will be behind us.”

His nephew jerked, his arms falling away from where they’d been surrounding William in surprise. “We?” Apollo repeated, staring at him in clear astonishment. “But-”

“I am well aware that my brother has no wish to see me,” Hades assured him. “However, I find myself not caring for his wishes at this time.” In recent years, Zeus had become… weakened. Hades himself had fallen into a similar state for a time, but in facing his father outside Olympus, he had rediscovered his old strength. His younger brother might still fancy taking on Apollo, but he would have to be truly desperate if he tried with an audience at least his equal in power.

Besides, there was something about Apollo’s essence that was intriguing Hades. He had not had much time to notice it, let alone ponder it, in Tartarus, but the memory of his nephew’s essence mingling with him now raised more questions – ones he thought he might find an answer to if he accompanied him to Olympus.

“I shall accompany you, too,” Bob proclaimed, drawing all eyes to him – William had reluctantly pulled away from his father, and had been pulled close by Nico instead, whose grip on his boyfriend’s hand was just as white-knuckled as William’s grip had been on his father. “No doubt he has no wish to see me, either, but I do not intend to cause Olympus grief and will properly introduce myself.”

Zeus was going to be furious.

Hades looked forward to it.

“Very well,” he said, ignoring Nico’s protests. Instead, he looked to Asclepius, who was unobtrusively sitting in the corner, staying out of the conversation. “We will leave now,” he said. “Once again, my son and William are under your protection. Do not fail me, or your punishment shall be increased tenfold.”

Apollo made a noise of protest, but his godly son simply smiled slightly. “I understand, Lord Hades.”

“We don’t need babysitting,” Nico grumbled. Hades raised an eyebrow and sent a pointed look at first him, and then his boyfriend.

“I have found you do not care to do as you are told,” he said, “and I believe Asclepius is the only reason William is in good health, as he appears to have awoken prematurely and cannot gain sustenance from my domain.” The second point successfully quelled the protests that began after the first, Nico settling for sending him a mulish look while William looked somewhat sheepish. “I suggest that, for William’s good if not your own, you remain here with Asclepius until we return.” We, because Hades had no intention on allowing Apollo to be whisked away at the whims of his paranoid father for further punishment. Bob, he was content to leave to fend for himself; while he had no quarrel with the titan now, he would not put his neck out for him any further than he already had.

The resigned edge to the persisting mulish look told him that Nico was at least hearing what he was saying. Nonetheless, as Hades pushed Apollo into walking out of his son’s bedroom – although not before his nephew gave the demigods another tight embrace, as though he thought it might be the last time he saw them, and even slipped further in to give Asclepius a similar gesture – and shut the door behind him, he also called up the shadows to once again bar Nico’s bedroom.

There was no point trusting his son not to be foolish. Hades had witnessed too many incidents to the contrary to be that naïve.

“Come,” he said when Apollo hesitated, looking back at the shadow-covered door shutting away two of his sons. “The sooner this is over with, the better.” His nephew did not appear to be convinced – Hades got the sense that despite his recent defiant actions, he was no less wary of Zeus’ wrath than Artemis – but dutifully followed as Hades led the way out the back of his palace, where he had long ago used a Key to create a door directly to Olympus.

It was kept locked, of course. Hades was not about to allow the dead, nor indeed any other denizens of the Underworld, unfettered access to the home of the gods, and nor was he willing to leave an open door for his Olympian brethren to drop by whenever they pleased. Its purpose was primarily to allow him direct access for the rare occasions he was permitted entry, without suffering the humiliation of having to cross from the main entrance of the Underworld in the west to the entrance to Olympus further east.

Zeus was no doubt going to give him grief for using it to let a titan onto Olympus, but given that his younger brother already had an entire list of grievances at his disposal, Hades did not care about one more. He did, however, give Bob a warning to stay close. It would be near-suicidal for the titan to break his word and attack Olympus single-handedly, and Hades was as confident as he could reasonably be that Bob would not, but there was still room for him to be a fool.

As always, the sight of Olympian architecture – so similar to his palace, but swathed in white rather than black – brought with it a mixture of emotions, ranging from longing to betrayal. Sometimes – often, especially in recent years as Zeus had clenched his ruling fist tighter and tighter – Hades allowed himself to wallow in those emotions, his mood both lifting and souring in a contradictory mess that left him irritable to anyone who dared approach him.

Today, Hades had a purpose for his visit, so he pushed the rising emotions down and swept through the streets, ignoring surprised nymphs and minor gods as he led their trio directly to the throne room. He could feel Zeus in there, a tightly-coiled yet volatile mix of sparks and ozone waiting for a single trigger to ignite. It was beneath the king of the gods, no doubt, to go searching for a disobedient son, but it was clear that he expected Apollo to go crawling to him, begging for forgiveness and prostrating himself towards whichever inane punishment Zeus had in mind on this occasion.

Apollo slowed as they approached, obviously aware of his waiting, angry, father, but Hades was done dancing to the tune of his youngest brother and pushed on, twenty feet tall as he slammed the doors to the throne room open with a satisfyingly loud crash. His nephew had no choice but to follow after him, with Bob trailing behind the pair of them, no longer the tallest but rather the shortest as Apollo matched the heights of the other gods in the room.

The look of shock morphing into fury on Zeus’ face was extremely satisfying.

“Hades!” his youngest brother roared. “What are you doing here? It is not the Solstice; you are not permitted-”

“And here I thought you might be pleased to see me, brother,” Hades interrupted him, allowing sarcasm to heavily permeate his voice, broadcasting to their audience – both expected and the unexpected extras – that he was well aware that Zeus did not want to see him and did not care. “Or at least, pleased for the chance to complain at my part in recent events.”

Summer Games Fest 2024

Holy fuck if that shit wasn't putting me to sleep and it wasn't even because it started at 11pm over here. No offence to those devs and all but most of the stuff was Boring with capital b. Audience either didn't care bout most things showcased or was just asleep too cause that was just sad. My 5 cents that no one asked about since i fell asleep right after + gonna link trailers from IGN.

📣 First they pulled presentation of top 10 Steam sales january-may Palworld, Helldivers 2, Manor Lords, Enshrouded, Hades 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Balotro, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, Supermarket Simulator, Buckshot Roulette. I can see most but some i didn't even heard.

📣 Lego Horizon Adventures : Coming holiday 2024, nothing else to say another day another lego game soon we will see any universe with those.

📣 No one Room in Hell 2, Early Access Halloween 2024

📣 Harry Potter Quidditch Champions another game September 3rd.

📣 Star Wars Outlaws coming out August 30. Saying everyone waiting out for it this year is mad!

FAVORITE TYPE OF THREAD: I love adventure, action and mystery threads. I love long running plots. I love a good horror thread too, and occasionally silly one offs to break up the tension.

FAVORITE THING ABOUT MY MUSE: How naive, generally weak and how tech-unsavvy he is. It's a different tune compared to the more 'all-knowing/powerful' characters I tend to play. It's been a fun challenge.

HOW YOU LIKE TO RP: 'Yes and' and 'What if' are my bread and butter. I also love screaming about ideas with another and eventually turning them into thread ideas. I adore when ideas fly, and can influence the character I've created in fantastic ways.

I DEVOUR character growth.

FAVORITE PLOTS: I love a good old fashioned adventure with character growth. I love seeing it happen on all sides, as well as establishing a more overarching plot with smaller mini-plots and discoveries in-between. (Kind alike how I run my TTRPG games.)

WHERE YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM: I might hit the character limit (if there was one) if I did list them all. But I gain inspiration from everywhere. But more importantly?

I gain an incredible amount of inspiration from the people I interact with. That, ALONE sparks so much creativity in me.. even if my social battery is obscenely low.

FACT ABOUT YOU: I am the creator of a now 10 year old magic punk themed webcomic called Aether Eternius. I spend most of my time working on this behemoth, and have a great deal of pride in it.

I actively update it every week, with a week break every 4 updates. It's based in my version of the Elemental Planes, with my own take on elementals, aka Primordials.

The Godly parents of the Rosewood Chronicles characters (Percy Jackson AU)

Nobody is going to see this lmao but I've been thinking about it for a while, so I might as well get all my thoughts out. This is what happens when my two hyperfixations come together into one :)

Lottie Pumpkin: Demeter. I feel like since Lottie is such a nurturing character, she would do well in Demeter cabin where they grow plants and stuff like that. Also, in the books Lottie is said to have a connection to the Rose Wood forest as well. I feel like that’s very on brand for a child of Demeter to have a connection to the surrounding nature. Lottie would love helping grow different flowers and fruits at Camp Half Blood and would prefer to not go on quests. If Lottie were to go on a quest, she'd use a bow and arrow.

Ellie Wolf: Zeus. I don’t know if it’s just because Ellie gives total Thalia Grace vibes (they literally are the same person in different fonts) but I feel like Ellie would be a daughter of Zeus. Ellie would understand the pressure of being a child of one of the Big Three as well as daughter of the king of the gods. Also imagining Ellie with lightning powers is so cool. Like, every time Ellie loses her temper, she would start to summon sparks of lightning and stuff. Ellie would love the freedom and adventure that comes with going on quests, she’d even go as far to tag along on quests that weren’t for her. Would take capture the flag WAY too seriously. Ellie would also be a really good swordsman.

Jamie Volk: Hades. I have to admit, I didn’t really know who to put for Jamie, but I decided on Hades. I feel like it makes since for Jamie to be a child of the Big Three since he’s the heir to the throne of Maradova in the books, so he would have a lot of power. I also feel like since Jamie’s backstory is a big deal for him in the books, once he found out about his true parentage, he’d try to summon the ghost of his mother Hirana the way Nico did with Bianca. If Jamie went to Camp Jupiter, he’d definitely be a Praetor. Jamie wouldn’t like going on quests that much, but recognizes it as his duty. After a while of serving the gods, getting nearly killed a million times while on quests for the gods, he’d start to turn against the gods. Would always beat other campers in capture the flag/war games. Most of the time, Jamie would just summon the dead in a fight, but he's also really good with all weapons, since he's Praetor.

Anastacia Alcroft: Aphrodite. Listen, Ani would charmspeak the fuck out of people to get whatever she wants. In the books, she’s stated to be extremely beautiful and she cares a lot about appearance (her hair), so I think Aphrodite fits her. Anastacia would be known around Camp Half Blood for also being a really good swordsman. She doesn’t really like going on quests, since she’s not a big fan of serving the gods.

Saskia San Martin: Ares. My thoughts around this are mostly because I thought it would be cute if she was a daughter of Ares and Ani was the daughter of Aphrodite. Saskia would have heightened battle instincts and would easily beat anyone in a fight, camper or monster. She would like quests in the sense that she gets to get rid of the monsters that keep trying to kill her, but she would HATE going on quests that benefit the gods. She hates feeling like she'd just a tool of the gods, and would eventually betray Camp Half Blood to try to take down the gods. Eventually, she would be brought back to the good side, and she would rekindle her relationship with Anastacia, then they would spend the rest of their lives together at Camp Jupiter in New Rome.

Binah Fae: Athena. If you thought Binah was going to be anything other than a child of Athena, you’ve sadly mistaken. Binah loves knowledge; it makes sense for her to be the daughter of the goddess of wisdom. Binah would love helping campers out with quests and other general demigod stuff. She'd definitely be camp counselor, even if she's not the oldest one in Athena cabin. She’d weirdly be on good terms with most (if not all) of the gods. Binah would be able to guess who a camper’s godly parent is before they even get claimed. It’d be like a little game for her. Even Binah's siblings would be amazed at how much knowledge she has. Would be an amazing strategist, and would always win in capture the flag. She doesn’t mind being put on quest, since she likes helping other demigods. She’s also just really reliable to the gods. If on a quest, Binah would mostly use her wits and battle strategy to outsmart any monster she comes across, but will use a knife as a last resort (I feel like she would like the precision a knife would bring in a fight).

Raphael Wilcox: Dionysus. Dionysus is literally the god of theater. End of story. I thought about making Raph the son of Apollo, and honestly, I'm still on the fence with the decison to make Raph a son of Dionysus. Imagining Raphael at Camp Half Blood and him interacting with Mr. D is just too ridiculous of an image-

Either way, Raphael would not like going on quests. He definitely does not want to get killed by a monster. Raphael would also be a very good archer. He'd spend a lot of his time at Camp Half Blood in the amphitheater, putting on plays for the whole camp to watch, with his friends from Apollo cabin, and his own siblings. He'd be closer friends with Rio (child of Dionysus), and Miko (daughter of Apollo). He'd also like to play very romantic, comedic characters in the plays, trying to get the attention of one Ollie Moreno. . .

Ollie Moreno: Hebe. I couldn't really think of anything else for Ollie. Hebe is the goddess of youth I believe, and I feel like that's perfect for Ollie. Throughout the Rosewood Chronicles, Ollie is the character that reminds Lottie of childhood, and is always described as having a baby face. Also, Ollie just have a very youthful vibe, yk? Like he's always making jokes and being super sweet and stuff.

Percy Butter: Hypnos. Idk. He just kinda gives me a sleepy vibe. I think that this boy deserves to rest.

Lola and Micky Tompkins: Hebe. Lola and Micky remind me of two little children. They just have such a wholesome, child-like vibe, so I think they would both fit into Hebe cabin.

Sayuri Chiba: Bellona. Maybe I'm just saying this because Sayuri is literally a copy-and-paste of Reyna from HoO, but I'm gonna go with Bellona, Roman goddess of war. Sayuri would also def. become a Praetor. Like Jamie, Sayuri is a natural leader and inspires unity within the legion. Jamie and Sayuri would have a similar bond to Reyna and Jason, but without the romantic aspect (can you tell how much I wish we got to have more sayuri and jamie interactions in the books? I like to think that they became closer friends after PEA, when jamie and haru got together. they like to talk about how ridiculous everybody else is. they have gossip sessions together. i love them <3). I think that Sayuri would enjoy quests in the sense that it makes her feel like she's making a difference/impact on the lives of her fellow demigods. Sayuri would fight monster off with a club (like the baseball bat she uses as the pink demon), but she'd also be able to fight really well with a sword.

Haru Hinamori: Aphrodite. I ALMOST put Haru in Hermes cabin, but I think I was just thinking that because Haru lowkey gives me Luke Castellan vibes (unfortunately). . . . Anyways! I decided on Aphrodite cabin, since everyone fell for Haru's charms so easily in the books. Haru would also be able to charmspeak people into doing his bidding during his time when he was fighting against the gods. If we're going with the idea that Jamie and Sayuri go to Camp Jupiter, Haru would meet Jamie since he's childhood friends with Sayuri, and he met Jamie when Jamie and Sayuri first became Praetors together.

Emelia Malouf: Nemesis. Nemesis is the goddess of revenge, and I think that's very fitting for Emelia. She spends most of the RWCH fighting to get revenge on Claude for destroying her life, and that kinda drive would be perfect as a child of Nemesis. I feel like, once Emelia has gotten revenge on whoever has made her life a living hell, she'd join the Hunters of Artemis, and help hunt monsters. I don't think that Emelia would like the setting of Camp Half Blood much, so she'd enjoy being able to get away from CHB with the rest of the Hunters and goddess Artemis.

Hey, I was thinking about the Galvadad AU again, and now I’m really curious, because we all know those little sparklings/heirs of the twins are gonna grow up into adults one day.

So will Roddy follow a similar path as canon, and maybe end up taking up some adventuring? Get all that energy out, and learn how to properly take care of himself when he can’t lean back on Galvadad and Cyclon-mom. Maybe even get himself a ‘rival’ of some sort? That he definitely won’t fall in love with by accident- ex. Thunderclash.

Like he goes around, adventures, gets captured/fights his rival now and then, takes care of himself on his tiny dingy (yet very beloved) little ship from daddy dearest, etc.

And if he did, gee golly how would Galv and Cyc react? Because I can imagine Galv is either;

Proud his son has a ‘rival’

“Who dares think they are worthy enough to have a chance at rivaling with my sparkling’s hand?”

“Yasss tell me all about himmmm” (gossiping like those high school girls in movies)

And Cyc is just *Hades voice* “he’s a GUY.” every time Rod tries to explain about this whole ‘rivalry’ thing.

And also, if Rod were to ever accidentally end up sparked or bring said ‘rival’ home, or something, I’m curious how Cyc and Galv would react. Alternatively, if they found Rod cut off from said rival because someone else in the faction thought they were doing him a favor to try taking them out of the picture, but he ends up feeling superbly guilty and doesn’t want it to happen again. He’s not that evil.

Also been thinking Angels & Demons AU - Galv finds this tiny young angel and is like ‘is for me? 🥺👉👈’ Cyc is unphased. This is normal. Megs just puts his face in his hands, knowing all too well - this is his stupid ass himbo twin. Of course he’s gonna try to adopt the cute thing.

It’s a fun AU to think about, honestly, especially with how many possibilities there are, and the story/world you’ve made. And btw, would you mind if I made works for the AU since it inspires me to write sometimes?? Sorry if I bother at all, and hope you have a good day/night! :).

Hey! Thanks for the ask again! Lovely to see you get so excited by this au. Okay so...

At some point Roddy is definitely going to become a leader in part of Galv's forces. Probably a general or commander under him and Cyclonus. Though, of course, I can see him doing a lot of adventuring. This is something Galvatron has done with him since he was a kid; nature walks and exploring. He wants his son to have a sense of adventure! And learning some survival skills is always useful.

As for the rival thing... So a thing that was originally planned for this au was my short fic When Will I Get A Nemesis, where Galvatron sees having a rival as being a sort of romantic deal (he is convinced Megatron is flirting with Optimus). Honestly the only reason that story is not officially canon to the Galvadad au is cos once I wrote it I thought it would be better as something that would more likely to lead to Galvarod, and that certainly wasn't going to happen here. That story would work better with an adult Autobot Roddy.

But still, I like the idea that Galvatron sees having a rival/nemesis where you spend your every day thinking about your next encounter with them will be, as something classically romantic. So if Roddy did ever get one he'd be like "Oh my gosh I'm so proud! My little boy is growing up!" Suddenly he wants to meet Roddy's nemesis, invite them for a pot roast, maybe kidnap them to go "You better treat my boy with the respect he deserves". He'd be embarrassingly encouraging.

And honestly if I did introduce someone to play that role it probably would be Thunderclash. I can't think of who'd be better for that.

Also Galvs and Cyc would definitely have taught Roddy about safe sex so there's no way he'd get sparked by accident. If he ever does get a kid it'd be entirely deliberate (though honestly I think the Roddy of this au would be more likely to try and adopt another lost foundling like himself).

(I might answer the angel thing in a different ask just so this doesn't get too long)

But honestly if you want to have a go writing something based on this au, please do! I'd honestly love that so much. It's amazing to think my work has inspired some stuff. All I ever ask is that a credit is made to me and/or the original story. But please! I would love to see that!

There was nothing he missed about the surface world.

A flash of green eyes. A blinding smile. A tug on his heart. Three pairs of red eyes stared at him, calling out his lie and he grunted, throwing the piece of meat for Cerberus to fetch and leave him alone. Animals were way too smart for their own good, even hellhounds.

It wasn't like he had had any other choice. As always, he had been painted as the villain.

"The Lord of Shadows has taken our spring from us! He means to make us all starve!"

But he hadn't. The other had come willingly, with a wicked spark in his eyes, a soft smile on his face.

"I have always wanted to have an adventure. Will you please take me with you?"

He had tried to warn him, that the Underworld was a place of darkness and grief, not a place for beautiful and good things such as him. Not a place for games and adventures, But he hadn't listened.

"I do not understand why everyone thinks I am all that good. Spring makes grow carnivorous plants as well as roses. And it's not true the Underworld isn't a place for beautiful things, for you live there and you are quite handsome yourself, with those golden eyes."

In the end, he was no more immune to that smile and those eyes than they were, and the God of Spring had wandered into the underworld and danced among spirits and lost souls, and played with hellhounds and demons as if they were puppies, and brought warmth and light the likes of which that land hadn't seen since the beginning of times.

When the God of Spring had extended his hand to him and invited him to a dance, he had been powerless to say no.

For the first time in eons, these halls had been filled with laughter - from two sources, a matching pair -, and his days had been filled with joy, and his heart had been filled with warmth. For the first time in eons, he - they - were happy.

And then the messages from Olympus had arrived.

He didn't think much of mortals, but this one thing he envied them for: they had free will, they could choose what fate they wanted to live and be selfish in their choices when doing so. No matter what anyone else thought of him, he wouldn't doom the world to chase his own personal happiness, even if the problem they were imagining didn't even exist in the first place.

He did the most difficult thing he had ever had to do in his whole life:

He let him go.

And darkness and ice consumed him once more.

And the days passed, and it was fine. There was nothing he missed about the surface world.

…Until one day he heard music.

And him, the king of the Underworld, the Lord of Shadows, forever frozen into calm and detachment, ran. He ran like his life depended on it.

There was someone dancing with the spirits.

A flash of green eyes. A blinding smile. A tug on his heart.

A warmth under his arms.

So I was wondering if you hade any hc about some enemies that isn’t explicitly told what they’re made off

Since Cursa draws heavily on memories gained from her possession of Bowser, I like to think the wildclaws (and the large amount of similar feline enemies) were inspired by connecting with Bowser's memories of his time as Meowser, and the whole cat theming that both the heroes and villains took on in 3D World, especially since that was pretty recent in Bowser's mind at the time (3DW was the last big Mario adventure before Kingdom Battle since Odyssey didn't come out until afterwards). Also Bowser just likes cats a lot, it seems! He really seems to enjoy being one, lol

I got recently the so far few 3D open world Kirby games and honestly, I've loved that game and how it feels... both meaningful and like I can't just halfass it if I want to save all Waddle Dees. I think I have enjoyed all Kirby games to a degree, even gimmicky ones like Canvas Curse and Squeak Squad.

7. A series you’ve lost interest in New gen Pokemon games. I used to be a fan of the mainline games but I'm too fed up with the pattern of gameplay and would rather just watch a LP/read cliffnotes for the plot if I need that information. The fact that GF realized that variety was good AFTER Sun/Moon had come out was also ridiculous and proof how I grew out of that series and should just stay out for my own good. Yeah yeah the story is apparently good now but if I don't enjoy the process nor have the nostalgia connection, what-ifs are a BS way to deal with lost interest. Just... move on, accept that you liked sth and have fond memories of it and appreciate the small nostalgia you've got left.

8. A series you haven’t played but are interested in trying Sonic games. I have a gut feeling that I wouldn't be a fan of speedy trials but the concept of Sonic Adventure games & their plot sounds really interesting.

10. A console and/or handheld you’ve never played but would like to try GameCube or VR games. I've heard good things about them and know from owning a Wii that adding movement to a game can enhance the experience.

Actual characters with a backstory and set personalities are better in conveying a story with a direction and even though you aren't able to relate to the character as much and might even disagree with them, it evokes more emotions than "ah yes I can project myself to this and be the perfect version of myself". Even in games what have some options for the endgame plot I get more immersed if I feel like they're characters outside my input and not 100 % defined what I want them to be.

Pyre - Finished 20/02/2023

Going back through my Supergiant game journey after putting it on hold for a year and a half, playing through them all in order has been a very interesting experience for me. They’re a studio who both haven’t released any bad games and not only have improved more and more over time, but with the massive success of Hades warranting their first direct sequel, it’s very fun putting all of their other games in context to that without having played the game for myself. Pyre in a lot of ways is technically more impressive than both of their previous games, although for me in terms of favourites I’d probably put it in the exact middle right now.

Firstly, the structure is completely different this time. While it does keep a lot (maybe even most) of the studio’s staples, some aspects are much favoured over others, such as the more narrator-style of storytelling being changed for it’s more multi-choice, choose your own adventure story, hell most of the game is basically a visual novel! While I loved the old story presentation, seeing how perfectly it was executed in Transistor, I’m happy to see them strive for new ideas, and this game definitely shows the heights of the new formula at certain points.

First off, I must talk about the best part about this game - the characters. The cast is easily the best Supergiant has ever done, there will be at least a couple of characters you’ll be invested in their character arcs throughout, and wanna stick out from them. Which is when the game reveals its biggest secret and greatest strength; its understanding of character progression and levelling with player investment, leading to some reveals that hit the player like a brick.

Although that being said, once the game first drops its biggest ball about four hours in, the rest of the game never really seems to hit quite as hard, which is fine because it still has its moments that shine very bright, but considering that when this released it was the studios longest game, and that a lot of that is bogged down by large dialogue of lore dumps, the game really shined only as bright to me with the characters I liked and the choices I made. Towards the game’s end the game suffers the most, but also created this unique feeling of melancholy I definitely appreciated and is befitting of Supergiant's body of work as a whole.

But uh yeah, rest is as you expect. Beautiful art, wonderful soundtrack, the gameplay... even more unbalanced and exploitable than usual. I definitely still do like it, and I think that’s due to my love of sports RPGs sparked by Inazuma Eleven, but it definitely suffers from character playstyles that aren’t great or synergize very well with other party compositions, trivializing a lot of encounters or making some character styles suffer when the game forces you to use them. Still, at its best, it’s incredibly involving and exciting, with incredibly tight controls and decision-making play.

So yeah, Pyre isn’t without its flaws, but I’d still say it’s a very good game. Honestly, I’m just really glad to see them try something new, and if Hades uses the character dialogue presentation of story (which from what I’ve seen of what Hades story is) and improves on it as much as Transistor did with Bastion’s roots, I think I’ll definitely love that game as well. But considering it’s longer than the length of every Supergiant game up to this point combined, I’m not in a rush. I’d still recommend this, the most slept-on Supergiant game that’s definitely worth checking out.

and after a few, measured heartbeats, he summons his own blade, black as night.

she leaps forward, swift as the winds themselves. her speed, suddenness, is meant to catch the being off-guard. and she does so with marked grace. ever, he is strangely impressed by her all-too-oft reckless abandon. this time, though, he may— at least— join her in it.

he moves second, just as he's said, shouting to gain the creature's attention just as she makes contact, a shooting star come down to land. it still disturbs him, the sight of the thing, a blackness where no life should be. what manner of creation magicks did this? they'll find out— later, of course— eventually.

for now, he makes a show of being known, drawing the creature's ire toward him as she regains her footing, having just driven herself downward from the sky. the creature, though, is difficult to read, a shadow where aether should be. and it lunges at him with more ferocity than he initially realizes. he knocks him off-balance, embarrassing. and pushed back by his anger, he swings his blade wide to return the favor, ten-fold this time.

Imagine this: a new animator for Warner bros comes in to work. They noticed the Warner sibling acting zany to the max and decided to doodle them one day. Once they finished their doodles of the Warner sibs, they went to buy a drink but left it on a table outside on accident. The Warner sibs see it and are amazed by it. But they are unknown to who is the artist behind these amazing drawings. The animator goes back to collect their sketchbook after getting their drink, of course, before the Warner sibs hide discreetly to see who the artist is. The animator sighs in relief to see that their sketchbook is back in their own hands. They quickly go back to their department before their lunch ends. The Warner siblings soon find their interest piqued in this animator, so they go to see them, but the animator has no clue on who “the Animaniacs” are because they were born after their show ended. They become good friends. Instead of scowling and getting mad at their jokes, they simply laugh and are patient with them. Eventually, one day, pinky and brain make a portal gun where if they shoot someone, they will be teleported to another timeline. The animaniacs find this portal gun and start to shoot everywhere for fun and accidentally shoot their animator friend. They are distraught and ask pink and brain for help. Animator friend gets teleported to animaniacs 1993, in the year 1995. They take the role of temp nurse with hello nurse and Dr Scratch n sniff . Of course, finding pinky and brain to help them to go back to their world (2024). From their animator friend disguised as temp nurse, meets the Warner siblings and start their friendship all over again except in the year 1995. The animator friend always laughed when the Warner brothers say “Hello nurse” and dot replying “it’s hard to be the strong one”. Always greeting them with a hello and how are you. Animator friend even stuck up for them when the ceo and Dr Scratch n sniff was talking smack about them. Eventually, the brain managed to find a way for the reader to go back home. The Warner sibs were sad and that’s when animator friend told them that they were from the future and that they were friends in that timeline and that they will return but instead they will work there as a different profession. Animator friend returns, and all is back to normal. The Warner sibs don’t realize that animator friends and temp nurses are the same person. So after the day animator friend went back to their timeline, the animation department got egg bombed, and all their equipment had stayed in the department, so all the animators had to take temporary jobs in the studio. Animator got the nurse job again, dr scratch n sniff recognizes animation friend (he knew it was animation friend disguised as temp nurse because they needed a disquise to stay in the studio so brain can get the portal gun ready to send friend home. Brain explained to scratch n sniff, and the 3 of them were a team temporarily) . And since the hello nurse was away on vacation dr scratch n sniff needed the help. The Warner sibs decided to pay a visit to Dr Scratch n sniff and unknowingly see temp nurse (animation friend). They were ready to cry and jump on animation friend, saying how much they’ve missed them. Dr Scratch n sniff is confused going “guys it animator friend you just saw them 15 min ago”. That’s when they connected the dots and were like “what!” During the next 3 weeks, they were attached to animator friend like glue.

Riddler and Batman rivalry, with Riddler's obsession being more romantic and Batman's being more platonic (BTAS).

You used to work with Edward back at Competitron, helping out with the game a little bit (possible romantic tension between the two of you), but distanced yourself after the whole 'Trying to kill Mockridge' thing. Batman, at one point, had come around to ask you questions about him and your employer. After Edward got sent to Arkham, maybe you were writing to him, hoping he could get better, but really not visiting him, maybe just intimidated by the place or too scared to see fully what he's become.

Batman checks up with you frequently, making sure you're not too disheartened by Edward becoming the Riddler, along with helping you move on. Later, when Riddler gets trapped in virtual reality, it's the first time you really visit him, and you really start waiting for him to wake up — Batman is there of course, because he really doesn't like the idea of leaving you alone with him, coma-like state or not.

Eventually, when Riddler comes back, you help him get used to being back in his body — physical therapy and whatnot — helping him be on good behaviour — leading up to him being on parole.

Finally, Riddler's free, the Wacko Toys deal is going great, and he actually has the connection with you he lost long ago. Things couldn't be better! Until Batman comes in, knowing he isn't reformed at all. You fight against the idea, because why wouldn't you? You believed in Edward, and you hope that eventually Batman sees it, too.

Finally, the Wacko Toys party; and Riddler and you are actually having the time of your lives — catching up, playful flirtation, all the fun stuff. Then Batman comes in again, telling Riddler in a one-on-one that he knows he 'can't help himself', and how long does 'he plan on lying to you?'
