Mohama Saz "Máquina de Guerra" 2024 Spain Madrid,Mediterranean Psych Rock,Anatolian Rock new album
full spotify
A bunch of virtuoso players hailing from Madrid, Mohama Saz is truly something special. Fusing Anatolian psych rock (is that a thing? It is now!) with North-American free jazz and their own Spanish folk tradition, with a little Tuareg grooves and Arabic flavor for good measure.. they pull from many strains to bridge the gap between modern (prog) rock and ancient traditions. Each of their four studio albums holds many wonders, but it is on stage that the magic truly comes to life. A discovery not to be missed!....~ Mohama Saz is a group that stands out for its ability to fuse sounds from different parts of the world, creating a unique proposal. Their music combines influences from styles as diverse as krautrock, flamenco, psychedelia, Andean music, North African and Middle Eastern sounds, all centered on the melody of the electric baglama saz. With a mix of tribal percussion, dystopian synthesizers, and choral vocals, they strike a balance between primitive and modern, offering a musical experience that is both organic and avant-garde. The group is composed of Adrián Ceballos (drums, vocals), Javier Alonso (baglama saz, vocals) and Sergio Ceballos (bass, vocals)....~ Repressed; USA tour forthcoming! The fifth album put out by Mohama Saz is a balance of primitive sound both organic and tribal with a flare of timeless psychedelic vanguard. Dystopian synths, chorus, percussion sustained by strong rhythms surround the sound of the electric Baglama Saz melodies. Máquina De Guerra is an instruction manual to escape the innocuous and the complacent and to keep fighting against the establishment. The record is oriented towards the south of Spain, as well as Eastern Europe, Anatolia, kaleidoscopic Kraut, Flamenco as well as music from the Andes and from North Africa. Máquina de Guerra forces the listener to fight against the international reactionary that wants to devour everything. Because each song contained in this record is its own world, and the new world is a Máquina de Guerra. The music of Mohama Saz is an enormous explosion of sound. For fans of Erkin Koray, Orkestra of Spheres, Triana, Sun Ra, Goat, Tinariwen, Las Grecas, or Neu. Máquina de Guerra has been produced by Carlos Díaz and Mohama Saz. It was recorded, mixed and mastered by Carlos Díaz at the El Cortijo de Santa María de la Vega (Granada, Spain). And with the original works of Oscar Rey Atellier on cover and back cover art, a Spanish painter based in Berlin. This album is published by YaiYai Records, limited to 300 copies......~ Tracklist Yai Yai 04:20 Baris 05:01 Ursus 05:23 Amulatu 04:38 Stereorrata 03:44 Jara y sedal 06:30 Arbolito 08:17

a pretty piece of flesh please
This is a scene from Federico Garcia Lorca’s 1933 surreal drama, Bodas de sangre (Blood Wedding). Set in rural Spain, the story concerns a doomed love triangle swirling around the nameless Bride, Groom and Leonardo Felix, who once was in love with the Bride but is now married to another. Driving the tragedy is the Groom’s bitter Mother, who has lost her husband and older son to an ancient feud with the Felix family. It is during the wedding itself that the Bride unexpectedly flees with Leonardo, leaving the Groom with no choice but to follow them. The two men kill each other and the rest of the play deals with the fallout for all the female characters.
Lorca loved his psychedelic Romanticism and this play does not disappoint. During the chase scene all manner of bizarreness happens, from a trio of otherworldly lumberjacks to the Moon making a walk-on appearance.
Perhaps the strangest, though, is Death herself, who takes the appearance of a curvaceous pauper; except for some stage directions, however, she is only referred to as the “Beggar Woman.” As the scene opens, two young women sit, spinning wool, while the Little Girl (who turns up in the play whenever a comedic line is needed) runs about being sassy. Soon Death shows up and asks, Yon bèl moso vyann, tanpri. [A pretty piece of flesh, please.]
LITTLE GIRL. Ale ale! [Go away!] BEGGAR WOMAN. Poukisa? [Why?] LITTLE GIRL. Paske w ap plenyen: ale. [Because you’re whining: go away.] BEGGAR WOMAN. Mwen te kapab mande pou je ou! Yon bann zwazo swiv mwen: ou vle youn? [I could ask for your eyes! A flock of birds is following me: do you want one?] LITTLE GIRL. Mwen vle ale lwen ou! [I want to get away from you!] YOUNG WOMAN I. [To the Beggar Woman.] Pa koute l! [Don’t listen to her!] YOUNG WOMAN II. Eske ou soti nan rivyè a? [Are you from the river?] BEGGAR WOMAN. Se konsa mwen te vini. [That’s how I got here.] YOUNG WOMAN I. [Timidly.] Èske mwen ka poze w yon kesyon? [Can I ask you a question?] BEGGAR WOMAN. Mwen te wè yo; yo pral byento la: de torrent lapè finalman ant gwo wòch yo, de gason nan pye chwal la. Mouri nan bote nan mitan lannwit lan. [Pauses.] Mouri, wi, mouri. [I saw them; they will be there soon: two river torrents at peace at last between the rocks, two men trampled between the horse’s feet. Dying in the beauty of the night. Dying, yes, dying.] LITTLE GIRL. Fèmen bouch, dam toutouni, fèmen bouch! [Shut up, naked lady, shut up!] BEGGAR WOMAN. Li jis. Tout sa ki rete yo se flè an lò sou sab sal. [Flowers fill their eye sockets, and their teeth are two handfuls of hard snow. They both fall, as the bride arrives, dressed in blood-stained hair. Under the blood-stained sheets they will return, carried on the shoulders of a handsome boy. So there is nothing more to be done. It is fair. All that remains are golden flowers on the dirty sand.][Vanishes.] YOUNG WOMAN I. Sal se sab la. [The sand is dirty.] YOUNG WOMAN II. Sou flè an lò. [On the golden flower.] LITTLE GIRL. Sou flè an lò a mò yo pote tounen soti nan kouran an. Brown se youn, mawon se lòt la. Ki rossinyol ki nan lonbraj vole ak fè jouda sou flè an lò! [Beneath the golden flower they carry them from the river. Dark-haired is one, dark-haired is the other. Let the shadow of the nightingale fly and call to the golden flower!]

LEE STARKEY. THE YOUNGEST DAUGHTER OF "BEATLE" RINGO STARR IS TODAY A FASHION DESIGNER AND HAS OPENED A FASHION BOUTIQUE IN HOLLYWOOD
The mythical Hollywood of the big stars looks at Lee Starkey, youngest daughter of Ringo Starr, the ex-member of The Beatles. Lee is now twenty-one years old, but she seems younger (“People look at me" –she explains– "and still think that I’m thirteen”) and she has become owner of a “boutique” in the elegant district of Los Angeles, where she sells bright spangles trousers, daring miniskirts and psychedelic fur tunics like if they were hot pastries. The shop is at the heart of the most fashion district of LA, Melrose Avenue, where famous stars like Madonna, Michelle Pfeiffer and Julia Roberts make their purchases.
“Daddy hasn’t helped me with money”, tells Lee, while she shows us her most favourite clothes designed by herself and her thirty-year-old partner Christian Paris. Lee continues explaining that her father gave her moral support and brought lots of friends to the opening of the boutique, which was last month [sic]. “He’s much exited" – she remarks – "that in the end I’ve found something that I love to do”.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0a9854f3f092b8db8b01918f0e20d5db/d19b6cd73e79d2d2-93/s540x810/01d9b5a0dde3b0a9ecd57b3cf0997f50135ca07b.jpg)
Lee Starkey – that’s Ringo’s real surname – was five years old when her mother, Maureen, and her very famous father divorced in 1975. Both of them married again: her mother with Isaac Tigrett, Hard Rock Cafe founder, and Ringo with the actress Barbara Bach. However, when the youngest daughter of the former Beatle opened her “boutique” in Hollywood both parents attended with her brothers Zak, 25, and Jason, 24 [sic], to wish her luck.
“I’m not an expert of The Beatles”, admits Lee with a smile, adding next: “If I want to know something about them I ask to my father. But I’m a drawer and designer of sixties fashion. Is in those years where I find my inspiration. I’ve tried to bring the vibrations, the colours and the freedom of that style to the nineties”.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bf705f9c7bfb1416337026ebe76be87c/d19b6cd73e79d2d2-84/s540x810/d663210d6441f1878ef047aecebae2ba32c65084.jpg)
In what there is not any doubt is that with their store, Planet Alice, Lee is making a good business, showing that her idea was spot on. Lee, before being devoted to this, tried to introduce herself to the acting world, went to a make-up school and even she wanted to play drums. In the end she met her partner, Christian Paris, a well-known clothes designer of whom she says: “We are very affectionate to each other and this is platonic”. Paris was already owner of a Planet Alice shop in London, namely in Portobello. Also he owns one of the most fashionable discotheques in London, Alice in Wonderland. Now attending to Lee’s wishes, he has opened a new “boutique” in Hollywood.
“We opened it a month ago, but I can already say that Lee's idea has been successful. The sales demonstrate it”, says Christian, happy, after they’ve achieved to sell clothes that worth 1000$ to a group of Latin visitors from Miami, that they were dressed with clothes bought in Planet Alice. “Lee has a lot of energy and wonderful ideas" – he continues – "and when she starts to work, like today, the cash begins to sound”.

Ringo Starr and his first wife, Maureen, parents, like we’ve said before, of three children Zak, Jason and Lee, where divorced sixteen years ago, after having lived a great love story since their adolescence. Maureen was eighteen years old when she married Ringo. She worked then in a hairdresser of Liverpool and after marrying she passed of living in a modest neighbourhood with her family to a luxurious and elegant mansion in Tittenhurst Park, without limitation of expenses. However, those happy years would leave to the fret when Ringo, crawled by a vortex of the fame and the popularity, began to stop worrying of her and began to be related with other women. In the divorce demand that finally she had to outline, Maureen mentioned a model, Nancy Andrews, a young and very pretty dark-haired Californian woman, as the cause of the end of her marriage. This romance, however, didn't have a happy ending and time later the famous Beatles' drummer got married with the actress Barbara Bach, who had been married an Italian producer before. "I had never wanted to get divorced" - said Maureen later -."I adored Richie (it is this way she called to Ringo) and I felt a great affection and respect towards him." When her lawyer told her that to obtain the separation she should say to the judge that she didn't stand to live beside his husband, she cried bitterly and time later recognized: "I shouldn’t never have said that, because it was not true."
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/80314bd9772e8014f7c51696afcd4599/d19b6cd73e79d2d2-f8/s540x810/26be001a498b793aad8d206d6f1e8453ac755124.jpg)
The three children of the marriage continued living with their mother, giving them Ringo Starr a generous pension. However, with time, Maureen claimed in the tribunals an increase of it sustaining that, used to the deluxe life that her husband had accustomed them, she had requested little money. "The boys continue living with me" - she said - "and for them I take this step." Each one followed their own road later and, in 1985, Ringo and Maureen became grandparents. Their older son, Zak, then aged nineteen years old and being drummer like his father, had a daughter named Tatia Jayne. Ringo Starr was the first member of the Beatles to become a grandfather. In that occasion Ringo Starr himself, his former-wife, Maureen, and with them their other two children Jason and Lee, they went together to the hospital where the little girl was born. Maureen Kox [sic] - this was her maiden name - married time later the millionaire Isaac Bach [sic] and in 1987 they had a daughter.

Two questions, --
One, -- what kind of music do you like? What do you listen to on the regular? Does it vary? Do you just suffer in silence?
And two, -- why do you listen to said music? And/or, just, .. suffer in silence .. with just your thoughts as company ... empty, hollow thoughts .. followed by voices that occupy, that stangely arent your own .. aha .. ahahaha ... laughs in schizophrenic 😂😂😂
Your obedient servant,
(Hehe, hamilton reference)

Alcina Dimitrescu: I enjoy jazz music, Big Band, Ragtime, and Bossa Nova primarily, although I make an major exception for Miles Davis. Not that jazz is the only genre I listen to, it simply will be my truest musical love. I listen to it because I've always loved it, but it, it also reminds me of my time with my own band, "Miss D and the Pallboys" those old records bring back so many memories.
(A side note from the author; I think in those genres Alcina would particularly like Duke Ellington, Laufey, Cab Calloway, and Miles Davis. I know Miles Davis isn't Big Band Ragtime or Bossa Nova but there's no way she wouldn't like Kind of Blue and Sketches of Spain)
Donna Beneviento: I-I listen to quieter classical mostly... I like Tchaikovsky's Seasons a lot. I like to listen to music *her voice drops* to drown out the voices... like you said. *her head drops*
Angie Beneviento: Gangsta Rap is the shit, my brotha! I'm a fucking OG! I'm cappin homie's asses every hour! You know? I recorded my own album?
Bela Dimitrescu: I'm the suffer in silence option. I don't really know much music. Sometimes I like to listen to Cassandra's rock if I can hear it from the other room. Although, I do have a favorite song, at least, Cass introduced me to it, "Romeo Had Juliette" Lou Reed. *Hums it to herself* (Totally didn't just assign Bela my own favorite song, I would never.)
Cassandra Dimitrescu: I love rock, most of it, but Grunge and psychedelic shit in particular, y'know, Jimi Hendrix, the Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, and Nirvana. I listen to it because it's metal as fuck. *Quieter* Uncle Heis taught me that phrase and I cannot be more grateful.
Daniela Dimitrescu: I like pop music, Bela called my taste "phony" when she was reading "The Catcher In the Rye" I'm not a swifty but I'm really close, honestly, and my sister's make fun of me for it constantly. *Being laughed at* l do like some not swifty-like music though! I also like Weezer and Tally Hall! See! Not a swifty, Cassie!

Album Review #50 - En el maravilloso mundo de Ingeson by The Speakers
This album feels like an orphaned child in the vast landscape of music, completely forgotten in its own land. It represents an eclectic mix of beautiful amorphous Psychedelic Pop, sleek Garage Rock and pretty Baroque.
Rock never truly formed a movement in Colombia around that time (the examples of these era are limited to a handful of artists). Radio took longer to get here due to the country's challenging terrain—three Andean mountain ranges no less, and when it finally took off, all genres that preceded Rock, the Swing, Blues, etc, were long gone, leaving Rock to fight with no context as to its existence and therefore ending with a handful of enthusiasts. And this album? This album was one of those incredible exceptions. Even a lot of Rock artists in the 60s were influenced by Presley and others, they wanted the rebellion and were looking for imitation, it was only when these guys said, "hey, lets experiment and look for some wacky sounds!" That this album came to light. Do you think a label ever accepted to produce it? Never, absolutely no fucking way, not in a million years. It was independently produced in a limited run of 1,000 copies with money of the band members themselves who managed to sell around 850 copies door to door. The studio? It was lent by the owner once they added its name to the album title. It was the first of its kind back then and it was available, because a lot of people still preferred to keep recording the old fashioned way so the studio wasn't being used by many. This record came to be without the infrastructure to support its artistic statements and the fact it exists is just wild.
It sounds very influenced by The Piper at the Gates at Dawn but with a closer approach to Baroque Pop. Oda a la Gente Mediocre with it's polyrhythmic jam, the Medieval Ode of Por la Mañana, the quirky Historia de un Loto. Many songs here pull a kaleidoscope of beautiful soundscapes. Socio-political commentary like Si La Guerra es Un Negocio, and the beautiful solo section in Nosotros, Nuestra Arcadia. Everything here is vibrant and wonderfully intricate. It is music made by and for those who wished to explore. It has an air of stream of conciousness and surrealism with an air of playful fantasy and fairy tale that I really love.
This is the type of thing that you do, no one acknowledges for 40 years, and then, half a century later, someone stumbles upon it and someone comes to you and tells you, “Hey, this was pretty cool!” The album isn't even available here, the 2008 reissue? It was made in Spain. Most available copies? You get them from the United States. Most people never cared for it or even knew of its existence. But the truth is that this album is simply and always be incredibly beautiful. It will be, forever and always, one shining rare gem of its own kind.
7/10

[Album of the day] Wet Cactus - Wet Cactus
Cantabria, Spain // 2015
[Genres] stoner rock, desert rock,* heavy psych
[Themes] marijuana, The Blues (TM)
[FFO] Hendrix
[Thoughts] Just a short post today. this self-titled release was an early introduction to metal for me. Though not widely known, I think Wet Cactus still outperforms much contemporary stoner rock I hear.** Like many stoner rock artists, the bassist is the vocalist (singing primarily in English), which I always like to see. Wet Cactus also brags two guitarists and some really consistent drumming.
Spain seems to really like their desert rock, which surprised me until I thought about their climate for about 10 seconds.*** I'll be moving to the country in the next year, so I'm putting out a call for any Spanish bands. If you know a Spanish band or are in one yourself, feel free to reach out; I'll listen to your music and might wind up promoting it here as well.
Otra vez para los hispanohablantes: voy a mudarme a España este año y quiero conocer más bandas de la región. Si superia una banda o estuviera en una banda, dígame el nombre o envíeme el enlace. Esucharé a la música y posiblemente lo promovería también.
o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::> o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::> o()xxxx[:::::::::::::::::>
* The line between stoner rock and desert rock is thin, with both terms originally applied to bands in the Palm Desert Scene. I will only use the term "desert rock" for music that has an evolutionary memory of grunge; "stoner rock" I use more generally.
** And I'm known for listening to too much stoner rock.
*** Also weed has been decriminalized in Spain for a while, which can't exactly hurt the psychedelic music scene.

History of the world
Back in the day, there were no cities. The first cities came to being in Mesopotamia. Meanwhile, cities also sprang up in Egypt. Between the cities, there were soon wars. Egypt remained relatively stable under the Pharaos. Sumeria and later Akkad saw many dynasties rise and fall. At some point ancient Greece became more powerful. After decades of suffering under assaults by the Persians, Alexander the Great led an army half-way across the continent, conquering Persia and ultimately turning back after reaching India. A few centuries later, Rome ascended. They fought in Gaul, Greece, Spain and Africa, uniting the mediterranean under one empire. With the spread of Christendom, the empire disbanded, and was soon overrun by barbarians from the East and North. All this time, China knew many conflicts as well, but became a solid union after some time and knew little particularism over the years.
We have pretty much described everything that happened, although later ages saw the rise of an Islamic empire as well. We see that Christendom is the force that ended the history of the world.
Today I went to a festival with many rock bands. The rest of the day I did almost nothing. There really isn't that much to do. I ate Burgundian meatspread for lunch. I drank about five or six cups of coffee, which is a bit more than I intend these days. (The recommended amount is four cups.) The first rock band I saw today was DeWolff, which is alledgedly a bluesrock band with psychedelic elements. I liked it, but it was all new to me and I couldn't quite distinguish the various songs. Then we saw a brass band that played metal songs. I don't really like metal, and I didn't really like those guys, but they played good. Finally, there was an AC/DC tribute band that played. I kept waiting for the only song I really know of them, Highway to Hell, which I always find a bit intimidating, I mean the song sounds riveting but the text is a bit depressing maybe, I don't like people cheerfully singing we're going to hell that's all. But there was this girl in front of me who did a cutish little enthusiastic jump when the song played all the time, which was entertaining. When we came home my roommate lost his keys, and he had to lift back to our house on the bagage carrier of my bicycle. Ah well. When I got back home I couldn't really find peace and I started listening to jazz music on my laptop and I just sat in my chair pondering various things, most importantly the nature of my history program and the nature of my Asian Studies program. I couldn't quite conclude anything about Asian Studies - you know, it's a rather queer field. But I concluded that history is a beautiful study, you learn to report information as well as think up theoretical observations about it, which is nice: you know, history is a revolutionary science, really, because you think about everything, just like with philosophy. So the last part of the night I kept thinking about what philosophy is.

Three Dog Night
A Simple But Great Band.

Robert M. Massimi.
Starting out in Los Angeles California, Three Dog Night is considered to be one of the real great pop bands. Starting at Whiskey A Go-Go, Three Dog Night hit it big with the song "One". The band, which started in 1967 with three original members (only one remains in the band today), had many hits and has an album coming out later this year.
The band last night at the beautiful Morristown Performing Arts Center was surprisingly excellent. When you factor in age (most in their mid 70's), they had great energy, great rhythm blends and were in synche all evening.
Opening with "The Family of Man", you got the sense that the band was there to make a statement about their accomplishments; as well as show off their talents as musicians.
The second song was "Black and White", a fan favorite. Like so many songs, Three Dog Night produced so many commercially successful songs. All were sung tonight and the packed, sold out audience ate them up!
After the third and forth songs "Never Been to Spain" and "Shambala", you are reminded just how great this band really was, especially in its song writing. A simple but efficient band, Three Dog Night delivered an hour and a half of entertainment.
In its fifth song "Easy to Be Hard" was a once considered a psychedelic song, a funky soulful song. This song was played consistently on radio in the early 70's and was one of the bands best. It was at this time that Three Dog Night was considered one of the most formidable bands. It was also at this time that Rock and Roll was in full swing with many great bands that still play today.
Under tremendous lighting all evening with the purples, blues and multi colors, Three Dog Night at times seemed larger than life. A tribute to their accomplishments, the audience loved reminiscing with them going down memory lane.
In the evenings eith song, "One", the band hit home how this song was the bands signature song. Not as famous as "Joy to the World" ( the evenings last song), this song introduced them to the world and it made them an international success. Out of all the great songs that they wrote and played, people identify Three Dog Night with the song "One".
"I Will Serenade You" came after "One". A great follow through song and was played both strong and deeply, it hit a melodic range that really showed the musicians talents. "Liar" was not their best but was still entertaining and fun.
The band brought the evening home with four great songs and a perfect end to a great evening. Another funky soulful song (much like "Easy to Be Hard") "Mama Told Me Not to Come" was performed brilliantly, kept steadfast to the original release, it was raspy, bohemian and captured the 60's spirit in depth. "Celebrate" was ended with an organ solo, innovative and provocative, this "Celebrate" had a different take on how the song was sung at first and commercially.
The evenings second to last song "Prayer of the Children" brought a standing ovation. Sung as a choir, the five musicians (sans the organist) stood and sung this song about the children who are victims to adults who bring their countries to war. As the band stated before the song, they are not a political band but that they wanted to write this because of the alarming rates of war in the world. Rightfully stated, the children are the ones who suffer in war, more than anyone else.
"Joy to the World", the bands most popular song comercially had the crowd still standing as we bid farewell to a staple in the Rock and Roll world.
Three Dog Night, Morristown Performing Arts Center, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, "One", "Joy To The World", "Mama Told Me Not to Come", Morristown, NJ.

Joan Jett/Bryan Adams Concert.
Back in 2018 I saw Joan Jett at PNC in Holmdel, NJ. She played with Tesla and Styx where her voice struggled. Last night, however, Joan Jett was on her game; energetic and tight, the band entertained a packed, sold out crowd in a close to three and a half hours.

Movie Melodic Milestones
I have always seemed to live my life inextricably through the movies rather than any other tangible force, so a movie melodic milestone playlist of songs or musical moments from film seemed most appropriate to me for the recent challenge. I guess the music takes me back to those innocent times of yesteryear, but are also highly comforting to listen to (or watch the movies they’re from) NOW in the present. If I could, this list would be of about 30 songs from the movies. As it is - this small list are just some of those that were most memorable to me growing up and probably for some of you too!

How Vocal Has Changed My Life
Introduction Yesterday it was raining hard and I was working from home. By about four o'clock I was feeling like I had been beaten with iron bars, every bone was aching. Unusually, I never left the house until I went out for a takeaway pizza after work.
